Campbell was drafted by the Giants in 1999 and started for them in 2000 when they went to the Super Bowl!
By 2003 Campbell was in Dallas, and was coached by the Grande Tonno. He barely caught over 200 receiving yards for Dallas – Per lo piu, he was a blocking tight end.
He then went to the Lions in 2006 where he had his migliore year as a pro before retiring a few years later and starting his coaching career in Miami, which is the only team he has ever coached for.

Gabe Jackson didn’t fit the athletic type of OL we were looking for. Square peg in a round hole no matter how you want to second guess it. Lots of other teams passed on him too. It’s funny there is a theme here that only we pass on good players. LOL

Gabe has transformed his once 6’4 340 to about 330-335, but now it’s mostly all muscle….he’s got quickness and is showing he’s a very good pulling OG and also gets to the 2nd level with ease.
Miami & other teams apparently blew it scouting him, as you say that how he was passed over.
You win some you lose some. Happens all the time. But sometimes fans have this idea that a prospect after the fact should have always been drafted by us. It’s classic second guessing.

Good. Went out West for 2 weeks (LV & LA). Good timing it seemed considering what’s been going on with the Fins franchise. I saw 0 part of the Bills game; caught the Jets game somewhere in Q2 as I got up around 7:30 am in LA.
Seems the right dismissals were issued; not sure that I agree with Ross that the timing matters and that the remainder of the season can be salvaged but I don’t blame the guy for doing what he did when he did considering the amount of $ he’s invested in the team already.
The attitude had to change in that locker room; you could tell the players weren’t playing with any confidence (except Landry).

Campbell’s playing days saw him being around Sean Payton for 6 years. We can only hope he learned something from him (in 1999 as a Giants rookie; Payton was NYG QB coach). From 2000-2002; Payton was Campbell’s OC. Both went to Dallas in 2003 but Payton was assistant HC & QB coach (& passing game coordinator in 2005) under the Parcells there until he left to NOLA in 2006. Parcell’s didn’t officially have an OC in 2005-06 but apparently Payton did alot of the bitch work and possibly had in game decision making for Parcells. Sparano was Campbell’s TE coach in Dallas from 2003-2005; from 2006 onward Sparano in Dallas was Assistant HC/OL & run game coordinator in 2005-06. Maurice Carthon was officially OC in 2003-04 there in Dallas until leaving for Cleveland in 2005.
A lot of football people who know Campbell say he’s qualified for this job and they’re not surprised he got it.

Mario Williams received the same treatment in Buffalo when he signed there as a high priced FA. He was seen as underperforming but eventually turned it on as the coaches rebalanced talent around him and Mario getting more comfortable in the new system.
I expect some level of learning curve outside of the only one Suh knew in Detroit; think Suh will eventually turn it on and show everyone that he’s a bigger force than what he’s shown now to date in Miami.
Patriots LT Nate Solder will miss the rest of the season with a torn bicep.
Solder’s injury was initially labeled as an elbow issue, so this comes as a big surprise. It’s a huge loss for New England, even if Solder wasn’t playing that well on Tom Brady’s blind side. Look for Marcus Cannon to step in at left tackle, as the Patriots continue to sort out the interior of their offensive line. Solder just signed a two-year, $20.62 million extension through 2017 last month.

The Miami Dolphins are working on their preparations for Sunday’s game against the Tennessee Titans and with a new coaching staff (more or less) comes the possibility of lineup changes.
A source tells me that although the team has not fully decided on changes and will monitor what happens at practice this week, there are indeed possible changes being considered at right guard and wide receiver.
I told you this morning I would bench Greg Jennings for DeVante Parker. The Dolphins are certainly considering benching Jennings. But his replacement would more likely be Kenny Stills instead of Parker.
Stills had the best game of any Miami receiver against the New York Jets, as he caught five passes for 81 yards and a touchdown. He had a 42-yard reception in that game.
The team is also going to look closely at putting Billy Turner at right guard ahead of Jamil Douglas, per a source.
Douglas, a rookie who has started all four games this season, has struggled so far. He is one of the lowest-graded guards in the NFL, according to ProFootballFocus.com.
So the Dolphins are going to consider returning Turner to the spot he held down at the start of training camp. Turner, whose reputation is of a physical player who still needs refinement, fits into the narrative new coach Dan Campbell has laid out for being a “nastier” team, particularly up front on the offensive line.

I have a disability placard and I park in disabled parking because I am limited to about 150 steps a day. I wish I didn’t have to use the disabled parking spot but it is useful. Im not a fan of doing that with people you draft as starters. I can see it for players you may envision as backups, and maybe they hit a spot they excel at and emerge as a starter, but for guys you envision as a starter, pick a fucking spot and really develop them there.
Tim, you really dont see other teams doing that with starters, you see other teams out of desperation putting a guy they drafted a LT and use him at LG, or something like that but they dont just rotate them all around. The solid OL units in the NFL have guys who have been at those positions most their careers. Its not as easy to transition from LT to RG as you may think, its going to take a lot of time to get use to the first step or the punch and hell even how to get out of your stance at OG vs OT and vice versa. LG to RG or LT to RT not as significant but does also present some issues and will take some time to adjust. Definitely not one of those things where a really talented player at one of those positions will have same success at another just swapping them out. Some can some cant.
Thomas has never been an established starter. Albert plays only LT, Pouncey only C except for last year but we know why, they kept James at RT exclusively this year. Thomas, Turner and Douglas are not established starters so you basically just made the same point I did. LOL
I also don’t think players playing a few different spots is as complicated or stunting in development as some of you do. Think about yourself in a robot sort of way, I’m glad I’m more versatile than that. Knowing a few roles can also help the mental part of the game to know what everyone else is doing because you been there done that.

I havent ever read about who the PS guy was that picked off Tanny but in back of my mind i have always assumed it was Dowling. I hope they give him a shot, i was a fan of his the year i studied his tape prior to draft.
Here are three ways practices have been different:
Emphasis on competition: Campbell said on the day he took over that he wants his team to compete — and that starts on the practice field.
Campbell’s first practice last week included the “Oklahoma drill” — unusual for a practice well into the regular season. There is also more of a focus on individual drills and competition, especially on days when players are wearing full pads.
“He will call players out and have them compete against each other one-on-one,” tight end Jordan Cameron explained. “Each position he does it. It’s the whole mentality. That’s all he stresses. There is no thing he stresses more [than competition].”
Campbell also added another change Wednesday — a full-padded practice. Campbell spent a portion of practice pitting the Dolphins’ first-team offense and scheme against the first-team defense and scheme, which he called “good on good.”
Starters would typically only face the backups and scheme of the upcoming opponent. In Miami’s case, for example, the starting offense and defense would only face the scout team emulating the Tennessee Titans.
But Campbell wants both of Miami’s starting groups to compete against one another, playing its own scheme to the best of its abilities.
“Now they’re coming off at each other,” Campbell said. “You set a tempo and you make it competitive where there is a winner and loser, guys. Do you understand that? To me that helps your sense of urgency.”
Campbell keeps score: According to rookie guard Jamil Douglas, Campbell keeps a points system for which group and/or players are winning drills. This adds another element for players to keep tabs on who wins the day.
Douglas and other players said practices have had more energy and enthusiasm.
“When guys enjoy practice, you actually get better,” Douglas said. “You have that feeling that you want to keep competing with your team.”
Way we handled it a review of game filma and if we didnt grade out well fromt he game film we had extra to do, so you were basically enticed to make sure you brought you best game every friday night because it could mean a less brutal practice come monday.
Shorter practices: An under-the-radar wrinkle Campbell added so far is shorter practices. Campbell believes increasing the intensity level for a shorter amount of time is the winning formula Miami (1-3) needs.
For comparison’s sake: Philbin’s Week 4 schedule listed Wednesday’s practice as one hour, 55 minutes, and the next day was exactly two hours.
Campbell’s schedule this week has Wednesday’s practice at one hour, 39 minutes, and Thursday at 1 hour, 46 minutes.
The cumulative difference for Miami’s two major practices of the week is 30 minutes.
“It’s shorter, but it’s short and sweet,” Cameron said. “These practices are more intense, get in and get out, but work efficiently.”
Tim, what i meant was whenyour drafting a starter. When tomas was drafted we had a need at the posiion, actually we had a need at LT and LG at the time. We drafted him with expectation of getting a starter, and then we treated him in development like we were draftng for a backup. Moved him here and there and all over and never devoted time to refining the skills at on position. I consider that to be bad resource management. Versatility is good, but you want to talk about round peg square hole, if the peg is made for a certain hole, put it in that hole (dont get excited with all the hole tale FFR), you moving it around her and there and there means you are trying to foce it other places. I just dont like it, they should have had vision for hwat they were drafting and who they were drating to know if he would work out, they major league screwed the pooch on that. Same with Turner, and right now its sorta kinda looking like that with Douglas. How many times does the versatility bullshit have to end up badly to start considering it a bad idea?
When we use to practice it would be 3 fucking hours of high intensity shit. Again, i understand that NFL vs HS and probably cant beat on each other that long without it wearing them down, but they do play for 3 hours, so at least one or two practices at full intensity and for a full 3 hours would condition them for their game time environment i feel.
You have to factor in tv time outs, injury delays, and who has the ball….so in practice, if ran full bore, Campbell’s 1:46 min of intensity would be about equal to a full game’s worth of actual playing time, snaps on the field….even more so for depth guys that just get an occasional rotation in live game action.

D, it’s because sometimes these young OL haven’t established themselves at any one position so they try to find the best 5. It doesn’t matter where they were drafted or for what, coaches are looking for guys who can do the job because they’re trying to win games. So they keep working and looking for the right mix. Thomas, Turner and Douglas all got plenty of snaps at their respective positions and Thomas and Douglas won out so far. That could change until they find the right combo but it’s up to the players to go take it in practice, not their draft status.
There have been OL drafted high as LT prospects and when they fail they end up at RT or sometimes G. So they try them wherever until they find a fit. It’s not a perfect science.
Oh Gee, we have a new coach and practice harder now, this changes everything!
it’s like a golf swing, you have to have knowledge behind your plan of practice.
simply running players into a wall wont work.
it’s not about talent, it’s about scheme and execution.
scheme & execution can’t work without 110% motivation, effort, intensity, & desire.
wouldn’t “motivation, effort, intensity, & desire.” be classified under execution?
It’s always about talent first or teams wouldn’t go bonkers jumping all over each other trying to land talented players.
Talent is equal, there’s not much difference in talent so they cancel each other out, it’s not a coincidence that the same teams are good every year.
The pats if they exceed us in talent it aint by much.
they execute, they have a better scheme.
it doesn’t matter that the pats lost their LT like it does with us
You have to keep the other team guessing as to what you run, if they know all you’re going to do is throw short passes all they have to do is stop that. we are a simple team that is easy to defend.
there are different facets of attack, one has the QB under center the other has the QB in the gun.
i think this has to be mixed up, you can’t run this offense strictly from the gun and expect it to succeed, you have to have a mixture of play action, deep passing, running and short to intermediate passing.and an occasional misdirection
all we have done is the short to intermediate passing with an occasional handoff out of the gun.
we are very predictable and easy to read.
if we are going to beat the guy on the other side like our new coach is suggesting it would help a lot if the guy on the other side didn’t know what we were going to do.
one thing this team has been terrible at is short yardage on 3rd down, they run long drawn out sweeps and get stuffed, this has been going on since philbin got here.
3rd and short is crucial to extending drives, if you have the pats in 3rd and short they qb sneak brady everytime, he’s unstoppable.
you would think after 3+ years our offensive coaching staff would know how to pick up short yardage but they don’t.
that tells me that we are dealing with people who are less smart than our opponent and the bad news is Lazor is still here!
The Pats OL is also much better than ours, and has been for years.
I think one of the reasons for the Pats success is Brady gets rid of the ball very quickly, his footwork is solid he doesn’t make unnecessary movement, sometimes when he throws a WR screen his feet are set up to throw before the snap, he doesn’t have to move them, he gets rid of the ball quickly and this helps his OL unlike Tannehill who a lot of times doesn’t feel pressure and holds the ball forever. the throw with his left hand was very bush league
i think a lot of the success to the pats OL has to do with their QB

Howie, there is a difference between Tom Brady and Ryan Mallett. We hate Tom Brady as Dolphins fans but he’s good at what they do. Ryan Mallett is a 2nd tier QB at best. Talent matters. It’s what makes the world go-round.
