Tom Coughlin

Tom Coughlin for President?

Hue Jackson

Hue Jackson – Right on brother!

Sean Payton for a 2nd RD pick? Mike Shanahan? Adam Gase? Tom Coughlin? Dan Campbell? Bill Belichick for Suh, Landry, Parker and Tannehill? Hue Jackson? Mike Shula? Teryl Austin? Mike Smith?

Who will be the next head Coach of the Miami Dolphins?

Out of all the options above, and there are sure to be other options in the near future, I actually have 2 favorites from that bunch.

If we’re going with the short term stopgap, and a HC who will give us respectability immediately, and as part of the package, grooms our next HC in Dan Campbell, I’m all for Tom Coughlin. Coughlin is a well respected HC and person in the NFL. Once a fierce disciplinarian type coach, being a military man, Coughlin was a no nonsense man. As HC of the NYG, he felt like he was losing his team, and changed his approach to a more friendlier relationship with his players, and the team responded and went to the Super Bowl and won. Is 70 years old too old? I say hell no! I’ve seen great managers in baseball like Jim Leyland, Jack McKeon succeed in their 70’s, and heck, Ronald Reagan was 70 when he was elected President, and he did a fantastic job running our country.

I like Dan Campbell, but I just don’t think he’s ready to run a team yet. Too many things he’s deficient in, but what a truly great guy to learn from Tom Coughlin would be. A true professional, a winner. Of course, nothing has been documented that Coughlin and or Cambell would agree to this set up, but it seems legitimate to me, and I like it.

If we’re looking for a long term (hopefully), I like Hue Jackson. (I would like Mike Shula too, but as so far, he hasn’t been mentioned as a coach we’re interested in) Jackson wasn’t given a fair shot with the Raiders, he went 8-8, and was fired. Incidentally, Hue’s OC in OAK was Al Saunders, the guy we brought in to “help” our offense after Philbin was fired. Jackson has done good things as OC for the Bengals. Dalton is playing his best football of his career this year, and most believe that is credit due to Hue Jackson. Bengals fans are actually crying for Dalton to play in the playoffs when they clearly all know Dalton is 0-4 in the playoffs.

  • Friday January 8th Update! *

Yesterday, the Dolphins interviewed Bears Offensive Coordinator Adam Gase.  Supposedly it was a long, thorough interview.  That means this week, the Dolphins have interviewed Mike Shanahan, Mike Smith, Teryl Austin and Anthony Lynn.  Dan Campbell will make his case today, and Doug Marrone and Hue Jackson will follow this weekend.

    For me
the most important quality for a head coach is the frequent use of profanity
    Let’s not Philbin it anymore

Gase is spelled almost exactly like the word “fuck” if you really think about it
    Both words have letters!

So that is a good start…

  2. Tim Knight says:

Maybe Gase is the next Sean Payton, not Joe Philbin. Payton had a similar path to HC and became the Saints HC at 42.

  3. sb7mvp says:

Chicago was 6th in rushing attempts last year
    Denver was 12th in 2014 and 11th in 2013

    I don’t think he’s adverse to rushing

  4. The Flying Pig says:

    Tim

Is Payton another word for pancreas

I’m pretty sure I heard some one threaten to hit some one in the Peyton and then get struck in that region

  5. Tim Knight says:

The Bengals blocked Vance Joseph from potentially becoming the Broncos DC last year.

  6. getterdone says:

Cutler has praised Gase many times at his weekly press conferences (a team spokesman said the quarterback would not be available for a one-on-one interview). On his reduction in turnovers, Cutler said recently, “It goes back to the scheme and the way Adam calls plays and designs stuff, and the coaching. There is always an emphasis of knowing where everyone is at and not forcing balls.”

Loggains created drills to run with Cutler during the individual portion of practices, in which he throws beanbags at the quarterback or makes him move with heavy traffic around him, so he’s aware of how he’s holding the football. And Gase has designed pass concepts that have created discipline in Cutler’s game, putting him in the shotgun and having him get the ball out quickly.
“A lot of that is that Indy influence, that’s the Peyton Manning part of what this offense was,” Gase says. “He didn’t waste time and once he saw what he needed, the ball would come out. There’s just not a lot of holding on to the ball. Jay has been getting the ball out quickly, and making quick decisions, and he has been right a lot this year.”

That speaks to another key aspect of the work Gase has done in Chicago this season: His ability to pull from so many different systems to accentuate the strengths of his quarterback. He’s been uniquely schooled in the game, and he’s open-minded, something that served him well in Denver. Serving as Tebow’s quarterbacks coach in 2011, he was looking for things the limited passer could do well. He watched a lot of college film, phoned Urban Meyer and contacts in the college ranks, and solicited ideas from players like Demaryius Thomas, who’d played in a triple-option offense at Georgia Tech.

“The most important thing that I have learned in this whole experience since 2011 is every guy is different and you need to adjust your offense to who you have,” Gase says. “Every team is functioning around the quarterback.”
It’s a simple adage, but one that isn’t always followed in the NFL. If Manning and Tebow are at opposite ends of the quarterback spectrum, Cutler is somewhere in the middle, a veteran pocket passer with the athleticism to create positive plays with his legs.

Watching the Bears offense at work this season, you can see the variety of influences: the West Coast quick, horizontal throws; Mike Martz deep vertical shots; read-option runs left over from the Tebow years (Gase, whether you believe it or not, actually used some of this in Denver with Manning, often in the red zone, but they had a strict no-keeper policy for the elder QB).

Gase got used to Manning’s no-huddle preference, so he’s been getting the plays in quickly, giving Cutler maximum time at the line of scrimmage to survey the defense and have an idea where he’s going to go with the football. And from his first two years in Denver, working under McDaniels, Gase picked up the tactic of mixing the pace—going up-tempo sometimes, and making sure the opposing defense must always be on guard in case you do—and also being a chameleon on offense, changing how it looks week to week.

“There are so many different offenses mixed in here,” Gase says. “We are like a—I don’t know the best way to say it…”
    A mutt? A melting pot?

“Yeah, that’s basically what we are,” he says. “We try to do what’s best for us that week. It can be hard to tell what we are doing because we could be a different offense every week. At least that’s how I try to make it feel for defenses.”

Read the whole article here: It’s long, but some good insight. Made me a tad calmer now….lol

  7. Tim Knight says:

Kong, that’s silly, nobody would hire a Herb.

  8. The Flying Pig says:

    If you were like “ouch”
And then you took off your shoe
And were like there is GASE in my shoe
I would not question that it hurts

So I know Gase will be a good coach based on that fact alone

  9. New Age says:

    Tim,

Lol maybe for Vance Johnson. 😉

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vance_Joseph

    • Tim Knight says:

Harbaugh became the HC in 2011, remember we went after him too and then kept Sparano. Johnson left SF after 2010.

      • Tim Knight says:

Dammit!!! Joseph, like Jesus, Mary and Joseph!!! LOL

      • New Age says:

Lol! Yeah I knew Harbaugh came in but since I didn’t see a change I thought he just liked the guy. Should have known better though. Still seems potentially good though.

  10. Brian in NY says:

    “Gase in your face!”

  11. sb7mvp says:

Gase is the place to be. Boom. Tough actin’ Sean Payton.

  12. getterdone says:

Tim, a lot of guys sitting on a stool in the back of the bar could out coach Sparano, Philbin, Lazor & Coyle….lol Hell, I’m one of them. 😉

  13. CavalierKong says:

    Tim,
From 2011-2013 the Toronto Argonauts won 3 championships with Italian Parsley, so it’s been done before.

  14. getterdone says:

sb7, yes, hopefully Gase can put it into practice as a HC on the field, and not be a deer in the headlights on game day.

I’d like to know how the convos went between him, Tanny, & Suh. Word is, he talked with them before the contract got signed.

  15. New Age says:

All I know is that Im a Head Gase after this hiring?

  16. sb7mvp says:

    Gase of Base
    Ross saw the sign

  17. Tim Knight says:

I like that Gase approaches offense based on his talent, not that he brings a system and forces it on the players. I hope he utilizes Tannehill’s athleticism, not necessarily running but moving the pocket and throwing on the move.

  18. CavalierKong says:

He doesn’t really want to be the Miami Dolphins HC. He’s just Gaseing the place before he robs it.

  19. getterdone says:

Belicheat & Tom Lady are at Bill’s house giggling & tickling each other right now over the Dolphins HC hire.
Rex is on the 3rd toe of his wife while chuckling slowly & making weird noises.
….and Bowles is in his office studying Gase’s offense with the Bears.

  20. New Age says:

Time to change avatar I guess. This will be Gase whispering fuck you Belicheat as he’s calling plays to Tanny.

  21. Tim Knight says:

Wow he looks just like Coyle.

  22. Tim Knight says:

“Yeah, that’s basically what we are,” he says. “We try to do what’s best for us that week. It can be hard to tell what we are doing because we could be a different offense every week. At least that’s how I try to make it feel for defenses.”

That’s exactly what Belichick does. That’s the opposite of what Lazor did. He ran the same crap every week and defenses knew it.

    • getterdone says:

      I liked that part too.

    • CavalierKong says:

I also liked the part where he talks about changing tempos. It’ll be nice to have a real version of an uptempo installed as opposed to that laid back, slow and plodding uptempo that Lazor ran.

  23. New Age says:

I do like that Gase is already hiring his new people. Guy seems to be well organized and the hard worker advertised. Time for them to start breaking down college film with Tannenbum.

  24. CavalierKong says:

Omar is such a fucking tool.

  25. getterdone says:

Wonder what Miko thinks of the new lilly white HC?

  26. wyoming85 says:

Well Ain’t this a Sunshine and Lollipop session going on here!

I’m going to save this days posts for later!

When we win the SB I’m gonna post the whole day again for you bastards to read!

    😉

  27. Mike E. says:

BTW – Just thought you should all know that Gase is pronounced Gaze, or Gays, whichever you prefer. lol

  28. Tim Knight says:

That’s nota the capa I was looking for you stupid idiot!!!

  29. Mike E. says:

    Tim

That’s appropriate – Everyone here seems a to think a we missy again with a our new hire. lol

  30. Brian in NY says:

    Wyo,

Vance Joseph coached the DB’s at Wyoming for a year (2002?)

  31. getterdone says:

Jon Gruden calling the game: Gay’s leads his team in the powder puff blue uni’s onto the field to face the mighty Patriots!

  32. CavalierKong says:

    Wyoming,
Definitely save these posts. You can keep them in the same drive that Markeyh keeps all the posts for “when Henne becomes the greatest QB in history”. He’s been eagerly awaiting the day he can drop those on us all, lol. 😉

  33. Mike E. says:

OK, I might be wrong on the pronunciation. I saw it that way somewhere, but I looked at an old Broncos page, and it said Gace, so now I’m not sure. I guess we’ll find out at the presser.

  34. sb7mvp says:

I’m still concerned we hired Gus Johnson to be our DC.

  35. wyoming85 says:

    P.S.
Fuck those bastards @ the finsmobunleashed!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • CavalierKong says:

Is that Putin? Maybe he’s writing a letter to Kraft:

      Dear Mr. Kraft,
Remember when I jacked you for your SB ring?

      Yours truly,
      Vladimir Putin

  36. Mike E. says:

    GDP

Wouldn’t it be worse when Gays is leading them into the locker room? lol

  37. Mike E. says:

    SB

Gus is a helluva announcer, not sure how up he is on D though.

  38. Mike E. says:

I think the first thing Gase should do when he arrives at the practice facility is to take a big trash container and turn it over, and spread it all over the place, so everyone knows he’s not like Philbin.

  39. getterdone says:

Dolphins announce new HC @ 3pm presser.

  40. Mike E. says:

LOL SB – That would better differentiate himself

  41. CavalierKong says:

Actually, Gase looking like a young Putin is a good thing. We don’t even have to win championships, we’ll just go straight gansta and take other teams’ rings.

“The Dolphins have taken another championship today, leaving the 49ers with just 4. In just over 3 weeks, the Dolphins have amassed a staggering 14 championships becoming the greatest organization this league has ever seen.”

  42. BoulderPhinfan says:

This was one of the riskier coaches we interviewed. I think its a high risk high reward type of situation with Gaze. Lets hope it works out.

    Go Phins!

  43. BoulderPhinfan says:

    Mike,
he should drop gum wrappers everywhere and walk out of meeting to take a piss few times a day 🙂

  44. BoulderPhinfan says:

philbin took over after a 6-10 season. He went 7-9 his first year. Gaze is taking over a team with similar record. I think this is a better team than the one philbin took over.
We can compare philbin to gaze after 2016.

  45. getterdone says:

What would really make the day is if the Lions let their OC walk & we hire OC Jim Bob Cooter. I’d absolutely love it.
    Yee Haw!

  46. Tim Knight says:

“The Dolphins are also planning to hire Matt Burke as linebackers coach, Clint Hurt as defensive line coach and Jerome Henderson as defensive backs coach.”

Gase expected to hire Vance Joseph as Dolphins’ defensive coordinator

  47. getterdone says:

Who’s our new OL coach. Tom Turnstile?

  48. sb7mvp says:

Lots of retread coaches have failed as well. In fact, the odds of any coach working out for a team is highly unlikely.

  49. getterdone says:

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports the Giants will interview ex-Falcons coach Mike Smith for their head-coaching vacancy.
Smith interviewed for the Dolphins job which eventually went to Adam Gase and is rumored to be a candidate in Tampa Bay as well.

  50. Tim Knight says:

Matt Burke has been a LBs coach for over 10 years with the Lions, Titans and Bengals.

Clint Hurrt has been a DL coach for two years in the NFL with Chicago. He had 13 years of college experience at Louisville, Florida International and Miami.

Jerome Henderson has been a DB coach for 10 years in the NFL with the Jets, Browns and Cowboys.

  51. getterdone says:

    Armando Salguero @ArmandoSalguero
Source close to Bengals DB coach Vance Joseph says he has not had any discussions about becoming the Dolphins DC. Zero.

    …and so the circus continues….LOL

    • CavalierKong says:

      Sheesh.
Are we even sure Gase is going to be the HC?
Oh yeah, Tim posted the link, we’re good.

    • Tim Knight says:

It’s not a circus, it’s the media popping off!

      • getterdone says:

Bengals possibly losing a few of their defensive coaches.
I guess Marvin Lewis will have plenty of time to replace them after his team gets killed tonite.

      • CavalierKong says:

I don’t know, Tim. I’m pretty sure somebody saw a Ferris wheel, and there are rumors of bears on balls.

  52. Tim Knight says:

    This is crazy!!!

  53. getterdone says:

  54. stangerx says:

Sorry haven’t been on, what’s the news?

My Dad died this week. Thought it was funny at his cremation service how stories flowed about what a pain in the ass he was at times. Right after that the same people would be talking about how he was one of the people that most influenced their life (in a good way). I’ll miss him.

    • Tim Knight says:

Ah man, so sorry Stanger. My thoughts are with you. Peace & Love

    • getterdone says:

WOW, so very sorry to hear of his passing. My heart & prayer goes out to you!
Makes all this silly Dolphins news very trivial. Hold close to the memories of your Dad & hope to see him again some day.

    • stangerx says:

Thanks Tim & GDP. Way I see it, almost everyone else who died that day you should be more sorry about. Just so happened it was my Dad……even if that doesn’t make it easy. Losing Mom really took the air out of his tires.

  55. Tim Knight says:

    LOL @ Kong

  56. Tim Knight says:

Stanger, we hired Adam Gase as our new HC. Youngest HC in Dolphins history.

  57. Mike E. says:

Hey Jon – Wow, sorry to hear about your dad.

  58. Mike E. says:

    Stanger

We hired Adam “I Love Trash” Gase

    Here’s his favorite song . . .

  59. stangerx says:

So we hired the wannabee Shula without that last name. Also means Tannenbaum is in firm control up top……’cept for maybe Aponte.

  60. BoulderPhinfan says:

    Stanger,
Sorry to hear that. Condolences to you and your family.

    • stangerx says:

Appreciated Boulder. He was a frick’n guy who would blow away in the wind he was so thin. Also the toughest guy I ever met.

  61. Tim Knight says:

Stanger, sometimes beautiful music can help in times like these.

  62. Tim Knight says:

Stanger, I believe the press conference is at 3PM.

  63. herdfan says:

Stanger, I’m so sorry to hear about your dad.

  64. Mike E. says:

    Jon

Yeah, that’s tough. I went through a stretch where we lost 3 parents in 4 years. There’s never a good time obviously, but, yep, that’s tough two in 18 months.

    • BoulderPhinfan says:

      Very tough.

    • stangerx says:

Not sure if I should be proud of it, but I did pretty much bitch out the pastor. We ain’t religious so he was the rentakind. He called to set up his talk and I gave him like three chances to learn about my Dad. He didn’t bite. Then he wants to get off obviously (even in a polite pastor way). I go, “you have five minutes to hear about the man?” He couldn’t say no, given what he does. A lot of what I told him made it in. Otherwise would have been real generic scripture and such.

      • Mike E. says:

I read this 3 times, and I’m still not sure. So the Pastor did a eulogy, and said what you wanted, or he didn’t? I think he did, not positive. 🙂

      • stangerx says:

He did say much of what I told him in the eulogy, but he wouldn’t have known any of it if I hadn’t pressed him on it. I pretty much said without saying that I wanted my money’s worth. But in his defense……not like my Dad was someone who went to his church.

  65. Mike E. says:

    When is the presser?

  66. getterdone says:

Good job with the pastor Stanger. There’s good & bad in every profession.
Glad you spoke your mind and he then rightly accommodated. Sometimes we all need a reminder that others are counting on you to do your job well & professionally. Kudos.

    • stangerx says:

GDP — I was interested that the $500 check I wrote was to him and not his church. Guess he’s a freelance spiritual leader.

  67. Mike E. says:

Jon – Gotcha – That’s what I thought happened. You totally did the right thing. That’s his job, to find out the details, good on you for making sure.

  68. bat says:

Stanger .. Sorry to hear about your Dad .

    • stangerx says:

Thanks Bat. Given that he was agnostic like me…….tell your folks there is a real capable free agent up for grabs. 🙂

  69. Mike E. says:

Gase has final say on 53, and will be the Offensive play caller. I like it.

  70. sb7mvp says:

Sorry to hear about your dad Stanger.

  71. bat says:

Now for the airing of grievances. .. I am thoroughly unimpressed with the latest Ross infatuation. I see Philbin part deux all over this guy. An inexperienced, emotionless git wandering about in a haze as things collapse around him. A half hearted golf clap his only response. Why the urgency to hire this guy? What stunning feats has he accomplished in his stellar career that we felt compelled to move quickly lest we lose this fabulous opportunity? So Tannenbaum secures even more power by adding another puppet to his thrilling marionette show. I knew all along that a proven NFL coach with a commanding presence was not an option for the tyrannical Mr. T. .. Now I must admit that I could be very wrong, but knowing this franchise as we do, does anyone really think I’m that far off? …lol

  72. bat says:

Stanger ..LOL ..I’ll pass it along ..

  73. New Age says:

    Stanger,

Really sorry to hear no matter his age. Sounds like quite a guy.

On football, I like Gase calling the plays. I really like Gase calling the plays. If he’s a genius, I want him putting out the vision and getting it done. Sounds like we might have a wiener,..um winner.

  74. Mike E. says:

    Tim

I only caught part of it. The Dolphins website did a good job of hiding it.

  75. bat says:

“We need a coach with lots of experience, a leader of men first and foremost, someone who commands respect and has been there and done that”

    Stephen Ross

…And then he hires a 37 year old who’s never been a head coach at any level.

    This franchise is so lost.

  78. Mike E. says:

Oh no!!! Bloozmann doesn’t like Gase. We’re doomed! lol

  79. bat says:

Mike .. Bloozmann has a far better track record on football decisions than Ross …lol

  80. Tim Knight says:

What I do like is we’ll have a HC/QB relationship we haven’t seen here. Gase is basically the OC and play caller so he’ll be working with Ryan directly a lot of the time. Like Payton/Brees, McCarthy/Rodgers. 🙂

  81. wyoming85 says:

    Stanger
sorry to hear about your Dad Man!

  82. Tim Knight says:

I would expect nothing less from Bat. LOL

  83. Brian in NY says:

    Stanger,

I’m sorry to hear about your dad. My condolences to you and yours.

  84. Mike E. says:

    Bat

My point is, you can go to any blog, or any article and you’ll find negative comments about anyone. It’s the nature of our “bitch” society.

  85. sb7mvp says:

Are these twits bat keeps quoting?

  86. Brian in NY says:

I just want to give you guys and update on my niece: Unfortunately, she passed away a little while ago. It was peaceful, so that part was at least merciful. Thank you all for the kind words and encouragement. I’m going to bow out for a bit, at least until tomorrow.

  87. bat says:

Mike ..True .. and the negative comments are always far more amusing …

  88. Tim Knight says:

A big part of our new regime is Chris Grier. He’ll work hand in hand with Gase on the personnel they’re looking for. Grier finds the players. #8 is going to be huge.

There are four 6-10 teams including us, I guess we’ll rotate with the other three in the draft?

  89. bat says:

SB7 .. Not twits on twitter just twits on PFT ….

  90. wyoming85 says:

What a better way to start your career as a Dolphin than having Omar and Joe W. hating on you the first day!

If nothing else convinces me that Gase has a chance, the fact that it pisses Omar off gives me HOPE!

  91. bat says:

A big part of our new regime is Chris Grier. He’ll work hand in hand with Gase on the personnel that Tannenbaum instructs them to look for.

    There …I fixed it ….

    • Tim Knight says:

Meh… that’s getting old. Tannenbaum isn’t scouting talent, bro. He will oversee big franchise moves though, like with Suh and the 1st rd pick but so does Ross on that kind of stuff.. But he’s not deciding on mid rd ILBs and corners. LOL

  92. bat says:

Ok .. Off to watch playoff football .. something we won’t have to worry about for at least a few more years …lol

  93. Tim Knight says:

Both McCarthy and Payton were hired as 1st time HCs with only a few years as OCs at age 42. Gase is 37. So what? Their paths are similar so let’s not act like it can’t pan out and it hasn’t been done before.

  94. getterdone says:

I’m the only one that picked Houston in my league….Go Texans!

  95. finfanrob says:

    stanger and brian.

deeply sorry for both of your losses.

  96. finfanrob says:

i love the Bloozmann comment. so you hate the run up the middle and everyone here hates the slow outside runs on 3rd and short.

  97. finfanrob says:

i love all the comments of tbaum purposely hiring people he can control and not the best person for the job.

i am sure he stays up at nights thinking ‘ok so who can i hire to make me look like a fool so i can lose my job faster’

    • Tim Knight says:

LOL, and Ross didn’t hire him to do that but people run with their own wild conspiracies. It’s quite amusing.

  98. getterdone says:

    Adam Beasley @AdamHBeasley
Gase said Kitna once told him: Players don’t care about what you’ve done in the past. They care about what they can do in the future.

    • Tim Knight says:
