The Wedge Scouting Report: Mackensie Alexander, CB

Wedge here for Toots SuperGlue!

Ever had one of those days?

Nothing can withstand the gravitational forces you pass through.

Everything comes to pieces!

Well that’s when you need your Toots SuperGlue!

TOOTSGLUEAD

TOOTS is the Glue you can rely on like superstar cornerback Mackensie Alexander.

Just apply a little bit of Toots Superglue to you broken Photon Belt or your best Wide Receiver and like Magic you are back in space again or pitching a shutout on the football field.

Toots and Alexander are airtight and won’t let anything come between them and the receiver, including bombs!

MackensieAlexander5

Alexander was one of the most highly ranked high school prospects coming out of high school.  He was talented then, he is talented now.

Toots won Space Ship Saver of the year last millennium.  And it still saves Space Ships!

Some think Alexander will be the first cornerback taken in the draft!  Some also think Toots will glue a moon to a planet!

Before the combine Alexander declared to the NFL “I am the best cornerback in the draft”…cocky, you bet!  True….maybe!

Cornerbacks need to be confident, and Mackensie certainly is.

And I am confident Toots will permanently glue anything it touches!

NCAA FOOTBALL: SEP 12 Appalachian State at Clemson

Guess how many interceptions Alexander had at Clemson…

The answer is ZERO.  Guess why?

Yep, you guessed it, no one dared to throw the ball near him.

Like Toots Superglue which never breaks down.  Toots is permanent and not safe for your kids to play with.

Alexander is true shutdown defensive back.  And Toots will kill your pets if they eat it!

MackensieAlexander4

Alexander is yet another prospect with Florida roots, hailing from Immokalee Florida.

I don’t know where that is but its probably full of football fields.

Toots, on the other hands, is harnessed out of the semen of dead lifeforms!

At the combine Alexander didn’t run the 40 but or really any drills at all except the bench where he benched 225 pounds 11 times.

At the Saturn New Products Fair, Toots glued an alien’s tentacles to his own pancreas 11 times!

FBC: Russell Atheletic Bowl: Clemson vs. Oklahoma

Let’s face it, if you are an NFL Team you need a Mackenzie Alexander on your roster.

And if you are an intergalactic agent, you need Toots SuperGlue in your spaceship!

Get your Toots SuperGlue now…look for the sexy alien on the label.

StickTootsGlue

Oh…and one more thing now you can get new MAX Toots SuperGlue.

Speaking of which…if Mackensie Alexander was an Alien Weapon of Destruction, he would be a bottle of MAX Toots SuperGlue!

    DBolt

    where are your LBs?

No pork seal of approval for you
but Hargraves, Garnett & Calhoune might end up being 3 good players

    Hey Dog!

  4. Mike E. says:

I really hope Miami signs me. No fun being an 83 YO QB out of work!

  5. Phindog says:

Piggy.. That Dobie was being really nice…

  6. Phindog says:

How have you been Mik E ? Hope all is well with you and your family.

    • Mike E. says:

Doing good Dog! Family is good as well, my son is due in any minute from college for spring break, so it’ll be nice to have the whole family together for a bit. How are you and your family doing?

  7. The Flying Pig says:

    Steve

Why do you want to roll over cap savings when you can reduce a player’s cap hit in 2017 now?

Remember, we restructured Suh’s contract to recue his 2016 cap number
but why do that if you aren’t spending the $?

We don’t gain more cap room with a rollover of what we don’t spend?

instead if increasing a players cap hit for 2017 or beyond, why not take the hit now when you have cap room?

Does the logic make more sense now?

    • Tim Knight says:

I don’t think we’re done. Not big names, but pieces.

      • The Flying Pig says:

yeah but those will only cost so much

it looks clear that we don’t need all the cap space we created by restructuring Suh

My suggestion was to give extra $, whatever’s left when we are done, back to Suh by restructuring again (if that is possible)

the idea is we can lower his cap hit in the years to come when we have $ to spend now

The rollover $ doesn’t really create more cap space if you had to restructure a players contract to create more space – b/c the same space will be spent

    • steveccnv says:

You rollover what isn’t used, if you reduce the 2017 cap hit now you’re done, you can’t use that money this yr. Tannebaum says there’s still more trades and signing to be made.

How do you know they aren’t going to spend the money?

      No, it gives you flexibility.

      See above.

      No, you’re being ridiculous.

      • The Flying Pig says:

        Its a lot of $
and the free agents available get cheaper and cheaper
Its looking like there will be money that isn’t used IMO
But I concede we don’t know that

If you spend it – that’s fine

        but if you don’t

What’s the benefit of restructuring a players contract to increase his cap hit in 2017 or 2018 so you can roll over $ and increase the cap room in those years?

You didn’t create cap space by increasing a players cap hit next year, by increasing the cap room with rollover money – those things offset one another (at best) they don’t create more cap space.

I’m not getting your response at all

You are talking about having more $ to spend (via rollover) tomorrow but you have more debt (via restricting to create cap space)

I’m suggesting that you didn’t need that cap space – so get rid of the future debt now. I’m not seeing that as ridiculous

      • steveccnv says:

By restructuring Suh it gives us more cap space THIS YEAR, of course it doesn’t create extra gross salary cap space. So you do the restructure, have an extra $16M in 2016 cap space to field a competitive team, what you don’t use you rollover. You can’t have zero cap space, then every time you want to sign an FA restructure someone. You’re talking about the current $22M like our team is set and no more deals will be made.

  8. Phindog says:

Mike E. My son and I are in the process of doing a complete frame off restoration of a 1923 T-Bucket.. It’s slow and go because he works and goes to college full time.. Wife keeps limiting the budget because she’s an accountant but we are all doing good and having a
    Blast.

    • Mike E. says:

That’s awesome man! I applaud you! I love cars so much, but I don’t know how to do anything with ’em except driving. I’ve been a car freak forever. I know all about them, but I’m not a handy guy, and I don’t touch them mechanically. Are you doing all the mechanicals as well as the body work?

  9. dbolt48 says:

    Is this ok or banned😂

  10. finfanrob says:

i see this place has gone to the dogs.

  11. steveccnv says:

    See what I mean Brian?

  12. Tim Knight says:

Piggy, I wouldn’t worry much about the cap. Tannenbaum’s main strength is as an administrator and accountant, he’s also a capologist. He and Aponte know what they’re doing with numbers.

    • steveccnv says:

And might be the best in the league at it, that’s why we can spend yr after yr. The local ESPN Radio guys were giving it to GBs GM for not doing enough in FA, saying you better put a good team on the field while Rogers is still at the top of his game.

We get blasted for signing Suh to a big contract, yet the Giants are the greatest for signing OV for a similar contract, and isn’t anywhere near the best at his position. At least Suh is as good as there is at his position.

      • Tim Knight says:

A lot of fans don’t like Ross and Tannenbaum. It wasn’t long ago that Aponte was a power hungry bitch. LOL

  13. Rhino says:

We still need a #4 WR. Hazel will get his shot (has 2 years been enough time to develop)… but Cruz from BROWN (?)… is that where they manufacture the yard-cigars you all have been discussing? 🙂

  14. Phindog says:

Mike E saying he’s not handy… What the hell just happened ? 😎

  15. Rhino says:

Every since our worst to first (in division) year of 2008… the offseason seems like the only time fans are in a good mood.

  16. D says:

BTW, after FA settles out a lot of cuts happen so there is still a lot to go and we can only roll over so much of the cap, i think there is plenty of spending left.

    • D says:

Id try to roll over as much as possible though so we have it for next year.

      • steveccnv says:

We’re trying to field a team this yr to compete for the playoffs, if it means we need to spend another $10M to sure up some depth, then that’s what will be done, if possible.

  17. finfanrob says:

    dbolt

i am more then happy to do some low things but i am drawing the line there. i meant more so seeing phindog here was just a way of saying nice to see him.

aaaahhhhhhh fuck it……………..okay fine i admit i dont have any lines………..but i was just acknowledging phindog

  18. finfanrob says:

    steveccnv says:
    March 11, 2016 at 7:30 pm

    Rob would disagree too 😉

wouldnt not. not his type, i am single

  19. Tim Knight says:

Steve, Tannenbaum was also an agent recently, he knows how this business works. He knows what the markets are and how to crunch it. Then Aponte digs in.

  20. The Flying Pig says:

It was posed as a question about the unused money
    its not a criticism

settle down guys – don’t get into defense mode

the rollover $ has no effect on my suggestion

    think about it
Okay – you create more cap space next year
but you have unpaid salary to spend (bc of the restructering) that takes up that cap space

The math doesn’t pan out that we created room

They created more space in 2016
I get the benefit of that – it was clear

they may be heading to not spending that $ (it appears that way to me)

So can they undo what they did ?
now that is may not be necessary
and in doing so lower a players cap hit in 2017

The net gain to a rollover is zero – if you just pushed back a cap hit til 2017

creating cap space has a benefit at the start of the free agency period
the benefit is dying now – but maybe we use some of that $

but if we don’t – why not just turn back the retracting we did?
    That is my question
We are not gaining any cap room with a rollover

I would think it would be more beneficial to lower a players cap hit
than to create more cap room via rollover

the sooner you get out of the consequences of a contract – the better

    • Tim Knight says:

I’m not in defense mode. I’m just saying you don’t know enough about their plans. None of us do.

    • steveccnv says:

It’s the same thing to rollover the money or as you say somehow undue what we did and reduce the 2017 cap. The only difference is they want to spend more money in 2016, so they restructured for the flexibility, if it isn’t used they’ll just put it back in the bank.

Lets say you have a timeshare and you can use 3 weeks in 2016, by borrowing weeks from future yrs, either way you slice it you only get 3 weeks vacation from those 3 yrs, but by them allowing you to use all 3 weeks this yr it gives you more flexibility to do what you want.

      • The Flying Pig says:

        Yeah
        I get it

but flexibility has a lot more value when the big $ to spend is still on the market

when the big $ is off the market
        then there is less value

Basically we put off a debt until the future

        Its low risk
but think about a worst case scenario
What if Suh blows out his knee in 2016
        what if he retires

part of the money not spent now – which would have gone to him, will effect the cap in 2017 and 2018 – even if he is out of football

The Lions are taken a cap hit for Calvin Johnson in 2016

I think its a brilliant contract
        don;t get me wrong
and creating flexibility certainly has value

but we are close to that point where there is nowhere to spend that $

So why not reduce the salary cap in 17 and 18, rather than rollover money not spent

        Maybe its just me
but I always want to get out from under a debt if possible
        instead of pushing it over

  21. dbolt48 says:

    Shit got interesting

@ProFootballTalk: LB Sean Spence is visiting Dolphins tonight, per source.

    • The Flying Pig says:

      Good player
I don’t know what happened to his pro career

We could have easily drafted him instead of OV

He was selected a little more than 10 spots after OV

    • Tim Knight says:

That guy keeps coming back to me and I know he has the red flags. It’s up to teams to determine if he’s over his nonsense. But he is a top talent. He’s a pure weak side edge rusher. Not big at 6-2 250 but he’s quick and has pass rush skills.

    • steveccnv says:

Wow! I hope we sign him. A lot of us were high on drafting him a few yrs ago.

But I don’t think we can, because Pig says we need to pay down our 2017 cap 😛

      • The Flying Pig says:

        😀

Well we are not going to pay him all that money!
        He played with OV
That doesn’t mean he gets paid like OV

    • steveccnv says:

Would be a good sign, if he was somewhat cheap.

  22. finfanrob says:

you guys to realize that ross hired tbaum, so that alone means there is no way he knows what he is doing and has to be the worst person in the league at his job.

come you guys you know ross never makes a good decision, well unless it comes to banging rachel, that was a good ross decision

  23. Phindog says:

Finfanrob… Good to see you to.. I do do enjoy your humor.. Hope all is well with you.

  24. finfanrob says:

    Tim Knight says:

That guy keeps coming back to me and I know he has the red flags.

yeah, it is the red flags that are the problem.

  25. dbolt48 says:

    Pig,
Knee injury took time to bounce back from, but he was excellent when he played for Pitt. This year due to other guys injuries. My friend who’s a Steeler die hard said he should’ve been a starter this year, but they stuck with the higher draft picks. Said he’d love to see him in ally get his opportunity in Miami.

  26. finfanrob says:

    dog,

been a long time. all is right in the world now. things could not be better

i got married and wife is preggo with triplets, we got us two cats and a penguin. i am working now about 72 hours a week cause the wife stays home eating bom boms all day. she us up to about 427lbs now. cant believe the price of food now a days, but hey it is worth the effort to work like a slave come home cook for her, do her laundry and change the cats litter box. i mean hell it is so worth it, i am married and now……….

mike e will give me a hand.

  27. steveccnv says:

So why not reduce the salary cap in 17 and 18, rather than rollover money not spent.

Pig, it’s the same friggin thing, when you rollover the money you’re actually increasing the 2017 cap.

Reminds me of a joke. A lady working at an ice cream store gets a customer, she welcomes him in and says our flavor of the day is peach, we also have our regular flavors vanilla and strawberry, but we’re all out of chocolate.

The guy says I’ll have 2 scoops of chocolate. She says, I’m sorry we’re all out of chocolate.

The guy again says, I’ll have 2 scoops of chocolate. She says, sir I’m sorry we’re all out of chocolate today, may I suggest our special peach?

The guy again says I’ll have 2 scoops of chocolate. She says, spell the van in vanilla, he says V-A-N, then she says spell the straw in strawberry, he says S-T-R-A-W, then she says spell the fuck in chocolate, he says there’s no fuck in chocolate and she says that’s what I’ve been trying to tell you there’s no fuckin’ chocolate today.

  28. Tim Knight says:

Maybe re-visit the carryover cap discussion when FA ends. LOL

  29. Tim Knight says:

Steve, you replied to me. LOL

  30. getterdone says:

Free agent ILB Sean Spence is visiting the Dolphins on Friday night.
The Dolphins are his only known visit. Spence saw 273 snaps last season while backing up Ryan Shazier at left inside linebacker. He’d give the Dolphins some depth behind starters Kiko Alonso, Koa Misi and Jelani Jenkins. Spence grew up in Miami and played his college ball at the U.

    • Tim Knight says:

He’d be significant depth and competition at LB. It also shows you we’re serious about LB. I believe in a 4-3 you need 6 game day LBs, 4-5 in the rotation and 2-3 of them on STs. Guys get hurt and need breathers. You want to have capable depth. So the more talent we bring in to compete the better.

  31. The Flying Pig says:

    Well forget it (cap discussion)

I see this isnt going anywhere

    • Tim Knight says:

      That was my point. 🙂

Do you want us to sign Sean Spence? He’ll be 26 in June. What do you think his market is, 1-2 years at what $?

      • The Flying Pig says:

        He’ll probably be cheap

        And yes

        I want competition at LB

He was a talented prospect once

  32. herdfan says:

There are many many things I don’t understand about football, but one that I will never ever ever figure out is how do the Pats always end up with all those compensatory picks?

    • steveccnv says:

They let FAs walk, then sign cheapos:
Akeem Ayers LB St. Louis Rams
Brandon Browner CB New Orleans Saints
Jonathan Casillas LB New York Giants
Darrelle Revis CB New York Jets
Shane Vereen RB New York Giants
      Vince Wilfork DT Houston Texans

  35. Tim Knight says:

Herd, the Pats rarely sign anyone to big contracts. They even do 3 year deals with Brady. They let players walk and use the draft with comp picks to retool with some strategic FA acquisitions. They have a 15 year establishment in place. Hope for Gase to be at least a 7 year HC for us. That’s how that works.

  36. Ken says:

Pats signed Hogan. LMAO they are becoming the Boston Celtics of the NFL. Whatever they can do to get white guys on the team.
