A Look at Our Offensive Linemen

Tannehill on ground

Quite a familiar sight for Dolphins fans, really since Tannehill has been the QB.  I know some of you think it’s all Tannehill’s fault, and that’s fine, but I for one don’t believe that to be the case.  Too much pressure, too often and no containment.  Seems like almost every drop back, someone loses containment on their man, and over the last 2 seasons, there really were good reasons for that.  Injuries depleted our O-line and the depth we had wasn’t up to the task.  Whether it was Brandon Albert injured, or Ja’Wuan James, or Mike Pouncey, it’s been rare to have those 3 former 1st RD picks on the field together.  One good nugget of info uncovered by the infamous Omar Kelly is this.  When those 3 have been healthy and on the field together, Ryan Tannehill, and the Dolphins are 6-1.  Some will scoff at this small sample, and that’s fine too, people will always see what they want, and contrarily ignore what they don’t.  I think it’s unfortunate that we have such a small sample, and if you think about it, this doesn’t even address the shoddy OG play.  Imagine if we had better OG’s than Dallas Thomas, Billy Turner or Jamil Douglas.  It could happen as early as this season, because the NFL draft is only about 2 weeks away!

First, let’s take a look at we currently have on the roster.  At LT, Brandon Albert is the starter, and OT’s Jermon Bushrod (Bears) and Sam Young (Jaguars) were brought in as depth for both tackle positions, as both of the aforementioned players have played both. At C we have Mike Pouncey, and backing him up is OG/C Jamil Douglas, and Jacques McClendon.  At OG, last years starters were a mix of LG Dallas Thomas and Jamil Douglas, and RG Billy Turner and Jamil Douglas.  At RT, I’m assuming a healthy Ja’Wuan James will return as the starter at RT, now that his dislocated toe injury appears to have healed.  Jason Fox is thankfully no longer on the roster, but my lord, is it about time we shore up the depth at OT or what?  Why every year do we get a turnstile at RT like Marc Colombo or Jason Fox?  Ya think maybe it’s time we invested in some quality depth on the O-line?

The 2016 NFL Draft leaves us with plenty of options, so let’s take a look at some of the players that might help us this season and beyond.  I’m going to put them ALL on the table, because you never know if we want to trade up, although it’s unlikely.

Laremy Tunsil

Ole Miss LT Laremy Tunsil  6’5″ 310

Laremy Tunsil is the premier offensive tackle in this draft, and will most likely go top 5, if not #1 to the Tennessee Titans.  With Branden Albert on our roster, unless they have discussed with Albert moving inside, which Albert has played before to OG, the Dolphins drafting Tunsil is even more unlikely.  He is the best prospect though, actually the highest rated prospect by NFL period, but a Dolphin he will not be.

Purdue v Notre Dame

Notre Dame LT Ronnie Stanley  6’6″ 312

Ronnie Stanley is the next highest rated LT prospect.  Still a slim chance that he falls all the way to #13 but he is in range to be taken somewhere in the top 10, or slightly beyond.  That puts him in striking range for a reasonable trade up should we want him.  Again, unlikely we trade up for an OT, but it’s possible.  Stanley would also not be a candidate to move inside and is really a pure LT.

Jack Conklin

Michigan St. LT  Jack Conklin  6’6″ 308

Jack Conklin is definitely a realistic possibility at #13.  The Michigan St. LT is a real throwback player, spitting nails and exhibiting toughness.  One of my favorite quotes of this whole draft was an NFC North scout, who said about Conklin “He’s tougher than old beef jerky”.    Whether the scouts or prognosticators are right, some feel Conklin might struggle with NFL speed rushers, and may have to either move to RT, or even possibly inside.  Conklin is a real scrapper, which makes me think he’d fit inside the trenches at OG just fine, and could of course give us depth at OT as well.  Yes, quality depth my friends, the luxury we haven’t had for too long!

Cody Whitehair

Kansas St. OT/OG  Cody Whitehair  6’4″ 301

Cody Whitehair has played LT, RT and LG for Kansas St. so he certainly has some versatility.  Most scouts feel he will be an OG in the NFL, so in the 2nd RD, he could be a target for us.  He would be another player that gives us some depth as either an OG or OT, but could give us an upgrade at OG from what we currently have.

Le'Raven Clark

Texas Tech LT Le’Raven Clark  6’5″ 316

Le’Raven Clark is another 2nd RD possibility for the Dolphins.  Clark has the longest arms in this draft at 36 1/8″ long.  Clark has good foot speed, but likely needs to add more muscle and get stronger in the NFL (As many prospects do).  He could be a guy to groom to replace Branden Albert, and be our LT for a decade, so Clark could definitely be a target of ours, if we think he could be what I said.  NFC scouts said they think he’s going to be a top 5 LT in the NFL.  Sounds good to me!

Germain Ifedi

Texas A&M OG  Germain Ifedi  6’6″ 324

Germain Ifedi looks like an NFL ready starter right now.  Ifedi has power, and also has very long arms (36″).  Germain played both OG and RT at Texas A&M.  Oddly enough though, his NFL comparison is our own Billy Turner.  He is a bit of a project though, like Turner, so although he would be thrown into the mix, the 3 year player may not be ready for us right now, but could could be a very good player in time.

NCAA FOOTBALL: OCT 04 Stanford at Notre Dame

Stanford OG  Joshua Garnett  6’4″ 312

Garnett looks to be a pro ready NFL OG.  Very thickly built lower body ideal for working in the trenches, he also has very good upper body strength.  A Stanford OL, again???  I think Garnett will be fine, although I also thought Jon Martin would be fine, so if you want to stop reading the rest of this, I understand.  NFL comparison is Gabe Jackson, who is doing just fine in the NFL for the Oakland Raiders, and a player both D and I wanted for our Dolphins. I could see Garnett winning a starting OG spot this season.

Christian Westerman

Arizona St.  OG  Christian Westerman  6’3″ 298

Westerman is a a very athletic OG, with lots of pop.  Weight room warrior who never stops.  Scouts say some of his actual strength doesn’t always show up on the field, but I would think learning technique from the right coaches would help that.  Westerman is a true OG prospect, and should be taken somewhere between the RD 2-4.  His NFL comparison is Alex Mack, and who wouldn’t want Alex mack on our O-line right now?

There are plenty more prospects out there, and I will leave that for you all to discuss and bring up on the blog!

    steve,

yeah i am sure that is what idiot edwards was meaning when he said can the fins finally beat the cheats at home. i am sure he was thinking that. hell he was probably even thinking that game really didnt matter cause the cheats wanted to lose the game to fuck up the dolphins draft position too

  2. steveccnv says:

At least we get the cheats coming off of a road trip across the country in AZ, in week 2. Oh wait we’ll be coming off of a west coast trip too.

  3. The Flying Pig says:

This is a pretty shorty mnf schedule

    • The Flying Pig says:

      2 redskins
      2 eagles
      2 jests
      2 Texans

I’m not seeing the appeal of these teams

      • The Flying Pig says:

        2 giants
        2 bears

Are these good teams that deserve multiple appearances

      • Rhino says:

agreed. very few REAL rivalries which usually turn out to be great games… specifically division rivalries. I see three only.

  4. Rockphin says:

WOW Just saw the schedule. SMH that is a tough first month! Two back to back games on the west coast? Away games on short weeks. Two Saturday games. Opening away at Seattle and then to the farthest you can go from Seattle the next week in NE. I hesitate to think of what this board will be like in week 5 when we COULD be 0-5 or 1-4. New offense & Defense a LOT of young inexperienced players. Ahhhhhhhhh I’m going to change my typical preseason record prediction of 10-6 to something more realistic like 4-12.

Unless of course the team surprises me and starts 3-0 and then my homer predictoion is we will finish 13-3. LOL It’s going to be an interesting season and their is going to be SHADE at the stadium!

  5. finfanrob says:

    piggy

it isnt about good teams it is about teams that get good ratings

  6. Brian in NY says:

I’m looking at the schedule thinking “Why does our schedule seem so daunting every year?”, then I realized that it’s because we aren’t very good.

  7. Rhino says:

I am glad to finally get a bye week halfway through the season. I always hated that week 4 or 5 bye. Bye weeks later in the season when guys are banged up seem more likely to help a team.

  8. getterdone says:

Damn it Damn it! I was sooo hoping the Browns game was in that stretch in Oct.
    It’s Sep 25th.
I have 3 buddies up here in my town that have been talking about going to see the game with me, especially after I told them how fun the fest would be like last year.
They liked the idea and wanted to all carpool down together.

Oh well. Don’t think I wanna see Titans 2 yrs in a row.

  9. BoulderPhinfan says:

I think the 4 home games. week 5 though nine is gonna decide our season. I hate that we play bills and jets away in december. This is a tough schedule IMO

I’m looking at the schedule thinking “Why does our schedule seem so daunting every year?”, then I realized that it’s because we aren’t very good.

and the trophy for the best post of why the schedule sucks goes tooooooooooo Brian

(you pretty much got it, if they had 16 home games we would still be bitching)

  11. Rockphin says:

I am glad to finally get a bye week halfway through the season. I always hated that week 4 or 5 bye. Bye weeks later in the season when guys are banged up seem more likely to help a team.

Plus that buy week falls in a streak of 4 home games. That is 5 weeks without having to travel.

  12. Rhino says:

IF we manage to get through the first four games at 2-2, we have four in a row at home with a bye week mixed in… a chance to hit mid season at about 5-3 (?)

  13. finfanrob says:

Well, that’s good because we saw the Texans last year!

and now we all want to know what brian had to drink October 18, 2015

  14. Brian in NY says:

That back to back @ SEA and @ NE weeks 1 and 2 is just a kick in the balls by someone wearing steel toe construction boots.

  15. Rockphin says:

I see they are going to go to court over Deflate Gate to try and uphold their suspension of Tom Brady that should have been the first four games of LAST year.

  16. Brian in NY says:

    Rhino,
We would be lucky to get through the first quarter of the season at 2-2. That is going to make it a tough road to hoe the rest of the way (as usual). I’m thinking 8-8 looking at the schedule right now.

  17. getterdone says:

Brian, yes correct. The Texans….thanks. I’m getting old and Tannehill has rotted my brain since I’m so in love with him like a school girl meeting the Bieb….lol

  18. Brian in NY says:

Okay gentlemen, I’m turning in . Have a good night.

  19. Rockphin says:

IF Brady is suspended the first four games and IF we win that game, it will be fun listening to the NE fans says it was because of the “Bullshit unwarranted” suspension until we beat them again the last game of the year to win the AFC East and get to the playoffs. Well, that is IF all that happened. LOL

  20. finfanrob says:

lmao at the deflate gate thing still an issue. i am soooooo so sure brady will get suspended. i am 100% positive he will be suspended the first four games the following year he retires.

roger will say in case tommi changes his mind he needs to know he is suspended the first 4 games…..well if he wants to be if he wants he can move them to the year 2051

  21. Rockphin says:

    CRYING IN THE RAIN!!!!!!

    Brian, yes correct. The Texans….thanks.

what the heck are you two talking about. the fins did play the titans last year.

    • getterdone says:

Yes, but the Fest we had was the following week vs. Texans. The 41-0 1st half points.
I was buzzed from tailgating and when we kept scoring so much I swore when we got the ball again up 35-0 that it must be time to kneel on it with time running out. Go into the locker room with the big lead.
Brian from NY turns to me and says. bro, it’s still the 1st qtr winding down….LOL.
Guess I was taken by surprise. We haven’t seen an offensive outburst like that in a long time.
Hell 35 1st Qtr points was more than we score in 3 games total sometimes…lol

Oh well, was good times. Then the rain came & Rock was crying with tears of joy in the rain. We LOVED our Phins again! 🙂

  23. Rockphin says:

Man that was the best game experience of my life. It was AWESOME! Broke the Texans curse, Broke the Fest Curse, THEY COMPLETELY DOMINATED and I was drunk as hell after trying to catch up after showing up late.

  24. Ken says:

    Christmas in Buffalo – yea!

    • Rockphin says:

LOL I think that just may be the first time that phrase has been uttered either aloud or in print in the history of the city. Congratulations Ken. It is not often you can claim something TRULY original

  25. Ken says:

    No Monday night games.
    No Sunday night games.
Sad for a once proud franchise.

  26. Rockphin says:

I never really liked Monday or Thursday night games. I have to get up too damn early in the morning so stay up so late just to wind up disappointed at the end of the night. Shit, I can do THAT any night of the week by just going out to the club…..

    • Ken says:

I have always liked MNF because back in the glory days of the 70s and 80s the Phins ruled MNF. They were dominant on Monday nights and I used to love watching them on Mondays.

      • Rockphin says:

In the 70’s & 80’s those games were on past my bedtime Old Man. LOL HA J/K

      • Ken says:

They were past mine in the 70s but I would argue with my mom until she relented and let me stay up. That’s when my mom knew I was going to be a lawyer.

  27. BoulderPhinfan says:

That back to back @ SEA and @ NE weeks 1 and 2 is just a kick in the balls by someone wearing steel toe construction boots.

thats 1-1 if we’re really lucky. I doubt we’re better than 1-3 after 4 weeks. This is a tough schedule. All our west coast games seem like a loss to me.

  28. Ken says:

I got to run. Just wanted to drop by and check out the schedule. I am trying like hard to keep some time in October free for another fest. I just had a case scheduled for trial on 10/25 settle so maybe the weekend of 10/23 might be a good fest date for me. Just something to think about. I am out. Peace.

  29. steveccnv says:

I don’t mind not playing on Monday Night, it sucks playing on the short week, the following week, when the team you’re playing has a regular week. I see we’re getting the shaft again on the primetime games. Thursday Night At Cin, Sat Night At jets, Sat at Bills. I don’t mind so much the Sat. games, but that Cin game is BS, we played it last yr on the road. Dallas and Det get it every yr at home.

  30. Rockphin says:

My Dad is a Giants fan and some other dumb ass show like Murder She Wrote or one of those type shows so if it wasn’t the NYG on Monday night it wasn’t on in my house. Dad picked his battles.

  31. getterdone says:

LOL @ Rock & Ken above. I hope it’s balmy on Christmas eve and we deliver the Jills a lump of coal for their fans to chew on!!!

  32. Rockphin says:

    Good Night Ken.

    I’m out too. Nogtih all

  33. finfanrob says:

sanders just said in this debate. ‘what we should do do is………blah blah blah’ and i thought……ha see there is proof. all that comes out of these idiots mouths is shit

  34. finfanrob says:

every time himary says ‘my husband’ i wish someone would say, isnt your husband the guy who fucked that girl with a cigar behind you back

    • steveccnv says:

Himary and Billie, what a couple.

    • getterdone says:

He nailed a lot of ladies, most against their will. Himary always helped cover it up & even went on the attack if these women tried to speak up about it. She was like the co-abuser in most cases.
All either of them cared about was becoming very powerful & above the law. So far they’ve succeeded nicely. Even Obummer is now saying that her emails on the unsecure server were classified secrets, but not the real classified secret secret stuff…WTF is that…lol
In other words, it’s code speak for the FBI to back off.

  35. finfanrob says:

Himary and Billie, what a couple.

i think the only real question about what happened to monica is which one of those men fucked her the hardest

  36. steveccnv says:

I saw the Heat’s score last night they were up by 22 pts, the next time I looked they were down and lost. I think they lost on purpose, because a win would’ve put them against Boston.

    • The Flying Pig says:

      I didn’t realize that
They lacked up the 3 spot regardless

But I guess Boston would have dropped to 6

And I would prefer to play Charlotte

  37. finfanrob says:

    getter

they are all scary but i dont think any is more scary them himary. i seriously doubt anything she does will have an effect on my day to day life but i think two generations from now will be given a total bankrupt country and it will be impossible to come back from.

    • getterdone says:

The collapse is coming, it’s just a matter of when. Hope we don’t have to experience it, but feel bad for any generation that does. But the point of no-return has been near for awhile, close to the edge of the cliff they say.
Won’t take much now to push it over the edge.
You see this going on around the world, in all markets. Eventually it will be like trying to stick your finger in a dyke…Eww…lol 😉

  38. finfanrob says:

    steve

my answer to you about the heat game……its the nba….nba…wwf….romantic comedies….it is all fake why bother

  39. finfanrob says:

    chelsea come home from college

himary: dear are you having sex in college
chelsea: well mom, no i am not. when i go out i only give the boys blow jobs
himary: dear, that is considered sex
    chelsea: not according to dad

  40. finfanrob says:

‘But the point of no-return has been near for awhile, close to the edge of the cliff they say.’

yes but himary will get us there that much faster. and i liked your joke. sticking your finger in a dyke. i get it. i mean instead of himary fingering us we finger her….ha ha ha.

  41. The Flying Pig says:

These people cheering in the debate are so annoying

    I really hate that
I wish they did this in a quiet room

    No audience

    • getterdone says:

They piped in the crowd noise, ala Atlanta Falcons.
Trump draws the real largest crowds. But he’s not allowed to keep collecting delegates cause he’s the big bad wolf….smh!

      • The Flying Pig says:

The loudest person on the subway on my way home was a crazy lady

It’s not always a good thing

  42. sb7mvp says:

I’m entertaining the idea of the Dec 17th game.

  43. finfanrob says:

    piggy,

or do like the sit coms. they should use a laugh track with every answer

  44. finfanrob says:

does himary know with obamas affordable care act that every single one of my clients who have health care are paying 125% or more in health care coverage in 2015 then they did in prior years

  45. finfanrob says:

these fuckers are such liars. how in the world does anyone support them

  46. finfanrob says:

so himary thinks care givers. meaning stay at home moms should get more from social security. yep that right there is the ticket. let a broken system give more to those who never paid a penny into it. that should fix it.

cant people see how these idiots just say things that they want to hear with no actual way of getting it done

    • getterdone says:

The lies to sway votes….no one can resists a freebie, even if it doesn’t really come true. But the fantasy of more free stuff with less effort sure sounds nice.

    • The Flying Pig says:

It’s not like women who are over 65 were part of Level playing field when it comes to employment

I actually don’t get the concept when she talks about windows

Windows can take their deceased husbands social security

It makes sense with divorced women who are hitting 65 and up IMO

  47. finfanrob says:

    getterdone says:
    April 14, 2016 at 10:48 pm

….and here I got bashed for wearing a tinfoil hat when I was protesting that a couple years back….lol

dont know about that. and not by me. i was against it from day one. there isnt one social program that works why would anyone think the govt taking on healthcare would work. hell they cant even run the postal service and that charges a fee to use and they cant get that right

  48. finfanrob says:

just run for office and say. i am going to promise all business must give you a 200% raise and 11 months paid vacation. oh yeah and if you elect me you all get your mortgage paid off.

psssstttt…..i will also make sure all you little hotties get a free weekend in the white house

  49. finfanrob says:

    piggy

had a client today pick up their return. the client lives in the most affluent part of tampa. i helped him years ago sell his business for 27mil. i know he has money and is very very well off. him and his wife collect social security. i see nothing wrong with him getting it, but she has never worked a day in her life. that there is a problem with govt programs, they just dont work

    • The Flying Pig says:

      When he does
      If she survives him
She gets his social security under current law

It’s no different than passing any asset to a surviving spouse

You still have to 65 or whatver the age is

The surviving spouse is actually getting what the deceased spouse worked for
And I bet the deceased spouse wants it that way

      What’s wrong with that?

  50. finfanrob says:

    The Flying Pig says:
    April 14, 2016 at 10:54 pm

    That is Bernie sanders plan

    Everything is free

yes it is but they are both for giving it all away.

  51. finfanrob says:

i think if bernie would just turn to himary and say. ‘what the american people need now is for us to just make out and get naked on tv’ he would get my vote.

  52. finfanrob says:

    ‘What’s wrong with that?’

what is wrong with her getting benefits that she never paid a penny into? you do get i meant she is currently getting benefits. not any surviving spouse benefits. she is currently getting more benefits then my dad is getting and she never worked a day in her life.

  53. finfanrob says:

    The Flying Pig says:
    April 14, 2016 at 11:04 pm

    I would throw up

yep, just what i am going to be doing when himary is elected president. it will without a doubt be the saddest day in american history

  54. finfanrob says:

    piggy

yes she gets a much smaller amount. i mean poor little old lady. i mean how does she survive with millions in the bank and social security giving her about 14K a yeah when she never even paid a penny into social security

    • The Flying Pig says:

I really don’t have a problem with everyone getting ss
      Even if they didn’t work

But I would have a problem with them getting the same amount as me after working all my life

  55. finfanrob says:

    Rhino says:
    April 14, 2016 at 11:08 pm

lmao. bad pictures in my head.. bad pictures.

yeah but you wouldnt stop watching. as bernie rips open her blouse and you see all the hair on himary’s chest you would keep looking as he parts the hair around her nipples and bites on them…..you know you would…you do….you know you would watch that

  56. finfanrob says:

you guys do now this talk about the 1% elite who never pay tax is all bullshit. if they make money they pay tax. just like you and i. but if they have wealth that has already been taxed it isnt taxed a second time. so yeah a person makes 500 mil in a year pays tax on that but the second year and he still has 350mill left over he doesnt have to pay tax on that again. and that is what bernie and company call the elite not paying taxes

    • steveccnv says:

Yeah, that’s not it try again, and coming from a tax guy… These guys have offshore bank accounts (hidden money they don’t claim), and tax guys that find them the loopoles. There’s also laws written by politicians for politicians and other rich people, so they don’t pay tax on all their earnings.

  57. finfanrob says:

    piggy,

then you shouldnt have a problem with bernie wanting to make everything free for everyone. i mean if you never put a penny into a system but you get benefit backs that is the same thing as getting something or free

  58. steveccnv says:

The only thing more stupid than these mock drafts is idiots like Walker predicting the W/L of the new schedule.

    • I was pissed at Walker before last season when he did that and went off on him. Kept sending him Tweets asking him how the offense scores less points per game in ’15 than they did in ’16 and he wouldn’t answer me. I even stopped following him. But, he was right on the money. Don’t know how he could see it coming or if it was just dumb luck but he was spot on. I think he gave us a bit more credit b/c he had us at 7-9.

      • I mean less pts in ’15 than in ’14

      • steveccnv says:

I don’t care about the prediction, because the team isn’t even built yet, nor have we seem them play. what bothers me is what he says, it’s like he just pulls shit out of his ass.

      • the only thing I can say Steve is until we prove differently there’s not much we can say about it. If we win five out of the gate and turn heads and are for real it’s different but just because we made some offseason moves, which is what we always do, and we aren’t finished assembling the team there’s nothing we can say that will change things. It’s okay to be optimistic about the team and it would be a different story if we were a better team with a better record over the past four seasons and someone’s trashing us but, until we prove otherwise, this team is going to be a whipping boy. Kind of like Misi is with me. lol

  59. FFR,
If you think being called a hater for pointing out faults in the team’s qb bothers me, it doesn’t. I point out other things besides just taking sacks, like his poor ball placement that’s been an issue since his days at A&M.
I go back to when he was drafted and I kept saying to take a guy with 19 college starts who had the issues he had was a mistake and he was going to be a four year project. To this date, he still has the same issues he had when he was in college. He does great when the decision is taken out of his hands. When he doesn’t need to think about where he’s going to throw the ball he’s at his best. So, on those quick slants that are going to a wr right after the snap he’s ok. On the quick screens he’s ok. Actually, his ball placement on a lot of those passes sucks but..
However, make him go thru his progressions to find the open receiver and he struggles big time. And that’s something that stands out time and again like on 3rd and long when he can hit someone for a first down and he throws short and we have to get off the field. So, it is what it is. If I’m labeled a hater by some I could care less. Maybe he can be fixed by Gase. If he can then so be it b/c I’m a Phins fan first and foremost. However, if we improve this season and he’s holding us back I’m pushing the reset button.

    https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CgDZtymWQAA_fYH.jpg:large

  60. One more thing. I don’t see it like others do, I understand that. And one thing I don’t see is his continued improvement. I think he’s gone as far as he’s going to go and that’s it. He’s pretty much just about at his ceiling. What I see is we had the Falldown Boys with Hartline and Bess and also Gibson. Then we went to Landry, Stills, Jennings, Matthews, Parker and Cameron which is a big difference. So, the talent around him got better. And that’s how the offense gets better. The team needs to raise the talent level around him and we’ll get better because of that but not because of anything he’s going to do. Again, call me a hater, but that’s just the way I see it.
If I’m wrong that’s okay too because I’d rather be wrong. I want a winning team and that’s all I want.

    • jetsssuck says:

your saying your premiums went up 3-4 times? Since when 1970’s

      • Tim Knight says:

Would have if my company got out of the healthcare business, allowed us to shop on the exchange for the same plan and they would then matched 2/3rds again. It would have been 3-4 times more based on my boss’ numbers and that’s why my he did his best to make a deal with our provider. It goes up every year but it would have been by leaps and bounds on the exchange for everyone.

      • jetsssuck says:

that’s interesting because the gov’t along with insurance institutions are saying the annual increases for insurance premiums have stabilized in the last few years with only 4-5 % increases and are becoming the norm whereas before Obama Care the average increase yearly was running 18 percent yearly.

Not one except for people who make it political and are Obama supporters.

      • getterdone says:

Agreed. Many areas only had 1 insurer to choose from for 2016 because the government-established co-op went belly up, and that insurer is tied to a “health care” system known for its monopolistic anti-competitive behavior that threatens to wipe out the independent physician and make sure as many doctors as possible are corporate employees. I know doctors that the AFA has driven out of private practice & into large physician groups that are controlled by large hospital conglomerates that tell them how & what the can & can’t do for their patients. They might as well punch a time clock. Cause they are just robotic employees now.
The care of the patient is secondary instead of priority.

    And might be the BPA
But I feel like if we go OL in the 2nd we have to go CB

        No faith in Maxwell?

      • getterdone says:

Yeah I have faith in Maxwell. He’ll be the likely #1 by default for now.

      • getterdone says:

Drafting a CB early is saying we need a guy on the otherside opposite Maxwell. If we don’t draft one early, then as I mentioned above, it means the team feels Lippett can roll on the corner with McCain the slot guy.

    • D says:

Piggy in our system i think Davis would actually fit at CB. He’s a lot like Maxwell in playstyle, in fact a FS with physicality will work pretty well as CB in what seems to be a press-zone system we are trying to shift to.

      • getterdone says:

Correct, and it’s why Davis has been moving up the boards.
He played CB his whole senior year. So he’s got a head start at getting the nuances of that down. The skill & speed certainly is there.

      • The Flying Pig says:

I think he is a safety as well

I’m not really scared off by guys I can’t figure out in terms of CB be S
Jason Allen is in the rear view mirror

Ronnie Lott was a CB in his rookie year
        Rod Woodson played both position
There are plenty of excellent players that were “DBs”

But I like Davis at safety

Just like I like Ramsey at safety

  89. D says:

Man, looks like it got pretty rough last night on here. Every single one of you have absolute valid points to the argument about Tanny, some just dont want to hear the other persons gripe. I can promise you he wasnt perfect, but he wasnt a total failure either, and he was neither mostly to blame nor hardly to blame. There does exist a middle ground on this argument.

    • getterdone says:

He was an average QB on a well below average team. He did the best he could with what he had to work with. That’s usually the case with most QB’s across the league.
Hope 2016 shows improvement from everywhere, including him, which we know he’s already working on with his receivers & film study!

      Kudos #17!

      • D says:

We are all fans of this team and want that because more he improves the better the team is as a result. We need to improve in several areas, so not small task and that brutal ass schedule isnt helping, but i want to see improvement regardless what we are up against. If we cant hang with the best we dont deserve to be counted among them.

    • Tim Knight says:

      Glad I missed it. 🙂

  90. Tim Knight says:

It would be great if both McCain and Lippett are major role players if not starters at CB this year. I’m also not writing off Taylor just yet which fans tend to do once a guy has a tough season. In 2014 Taylor was ascending and then had a setback last year. He’ll turn just 26 during the season so we’ll see how he does in camp. It’s a new year, a new system and new coaching.

    • getterdone says:

VJ should be good for him & others. He’s not big, but he’s shown to be physical with his tackling. Just needs some technique fixes. If those don’t smooth out in camp, then I was all for trying a move to safety where he can more keep things in front of him, where he seems better at handling instead of getting lost on the perimeter.

      • Tim Knight says:

Taylor isn’t tall but he is 195 lbs. I think he’d be better off inside like McCain rather than on the boundary. Put the bigger corners out there.

  94. dbolt48 says:

    D,
What the fuck is wrong with you talking about a “middle ground” in these definitive all or nothing arguments😂?

    • Tim Knight says:

I think I’ve always held a middle ground view to that debate. I always focus on the offense as a whole, not a few specific positions. I’ve pointed out that Lazor didn’t do the OL or RT any favors with his one dimensional mind set. It did have a big effect on the entire offense.

      • dbolt48 says:

LOL….I’m busting D’s balls. I’ve always said its a team sport and everyone needs to do their job & last year the coaches & players didn’t do it enough.

  95. getterdone says:

No one gave me ‘props’ for my fair & balanced assessment. 😦

  96. Al in MIA says:

The US healthcare structure (not delivery by doctors) is not great (relative to other nations it is way more costly to the population). I have received medical treatment in foreign nations in the past (Milan, Italy) and have seen friends receive medical treatment (London, UK) during my time overseas and quite frankly the delivery was the SAME SHIT (Same time lapse in ER wait times in both cities as I have encountered in the US). Living in Miami, you encounter many individuals who are from other countries and who I personally know have certain procedures (surgery) done back in their home country because it is way more cost effective for them to do so AND who are living JUST fine, without complications, with said procedures done overseas.

The issue in the US has many layers of complications that stem from the 1940s when the US government put the responsibilities of providing healthcare to private businesses (via tax benefits for private companies providing insurance to its employees). The US is no longer in the growth state it was 40-50 years ago (GDP wise). I mention this because Insurance Companies give their best price, by a good amount, in large group plans partly because it is easier to negotiate with 1 person than with several (1 company vs several employees). They have ZERO incentive to have to deal with people buying insurance at individual level and prefer to control price with less people to deal with (far less companies than individuals in the market who seek out insurance).

You have plenty of other issues today regarding litigation costs (US spends twice as much as any developed nation on litigation costs as a % of GDP and many doctors refuse to give professional “opinions” on issues because it may be used against them in court); doctors who game the system by charging as much as the insurance companies are willing to spend for a procedure; hospitals who create regional monopolies/oligopolies and charge back high charges to patients (because the insurance company will cover it).

But going back to insurance companies, they basically charge a premium above cost to make their profit and they do little to step the rising costs other than just raise the premium price. This is a very disturbing game of “insurance raises price to cover cost; doctors raise their fees to match the same % cut they were getting before”. Think of it like the NFL and what players get per position as a % of league cap (think Ryan Tannehill and him being overpaid because a starting QB gets X % of the cap no matter what the cap figure is). Same logic applies in the healthcare industry with doctors and what insurance companies have to dish out.

Not to mention, on top of all these premium hikes you have all these flakey policy language restrictions that create exclusions and limits of insurance $ pay outs.

The whole thing is fucked up, but ACA was helpful in forcing insurance companies to even their charges for women a bit and also remove policy limits ($1 mill cap etc) from medical care policies.

ACA failed in that it was a half reach just to get the thing done and make people believe that congress did something (instead of nothing).

As GDP pointed out, numerous people got coverage but with high deductible costs etc.

I have insurance from the healthcare market place and the difference in premiums per month between the lowest premium plan (~$226) and highest (~400) was roughly 175 dollars per month; but the risk transfer difference is inherent in the deductible levels per plan.

In any case, I am a strong proponent of fixing the problem by supply side and that is for the government to create more hospitals to compete against private ones and get people to come to their cheaper hospitals which will drive private hospitals to charge lower prices. The supply side also includes letting in more doctors from overseas to flood the market with more doctors and force more competition (drive price down).

The government also needs to fully strip out any tax benefit to any company for supplying healthcare to see where the market trully stands. Which businesses are driven by tax incentive and which ones arent.

A constitutional amendment must also be made to remove state power (shift to Federal) over the insurance market (every single insurance company has to file in every state and follow different rules in different states which creates inefficiencies when multiplying these costs to all 50 states).

In theory, I believe healthcare should be 100% provided by the federal government but because of the risk that 1 party cannot make the best decision always; the government should do something similar to what happens in the financial markets and create an out for private insurances who have extremely costly diseases/conditions. Many states prior to ACA did create high risk pools for individuals who couldn’t get private insurance (pre-existing condition etc) and ACA created a federal pool for these kind of risks but still managed through existing state exchanges which remain costly. The government should fully take the burden off the hands of private insurance companies for the segment of the population which are way above the mean cost of average healthcare by absorbing these costs and distributing the cost via an even tax across the board.

It is completely selfish for anyone to believe that they deserve to pay cheaper than anyone else because they inherited better genetics. This notion that people are going to live a different lifestyle because of guaranteed free insurance is no different than the fear mongering that goes on when people discuss the legalization of recreational drugs. It needs to end. The whole purpose of insurance is to pool risk and charge less to every member because they all will not experience a loss at the same time. Insurance companies at a private level can only function if they can invest the premiums they receive and get an investment return that is faster than the losses they are paying out (claims etc). It’s time to end this crap and make everyone pay into a single pool and everyone receive basic coverage and surgery without people having to think about how much of their salary has to go to cover medical. One of the major hidden costs in this whole current healthcare structure is that people stay with a company simply because of the healthcare plan they are receiving. These individuals are not motivated to do their best at their job perhaps and are not happy and it trickles down to under performance at companies.

    • The Flying Pig says:

      Cliff notes version?

    • Al in MIA says:

Somewhere in this diatribe of mine I did not mention (and should have) that the healthcare insurance market is one of the only markets that exists where buyers do not know the price (concealed by insurance and doctors alike). The government needs to force all parities to list price before delivery of service so that consumers can help bring down cost by going to cheaper places (instead of relying on insurance company calculations of this BS).
