The Wedge Scouting Report: Chase Winovich, Edge, Michigan

Man do I love riding my bike across the known universe!

Nothing like a carbon suffocating atmosphere in your tentacles as you run over inferior lifeforms.

And I never need to stop for gas!  This bike has a nonstop motor, kind of like Chase Winovich, the Michigan Defensive End.

The Pros:  At 6-3, 253 pounds, Winovich is being projected at both 3-4 Outside Linebacker and 4-3 Defensive End.  A lot of scouts are noticing Winovich when they are reviewing his teammate Rashan Gary.  And Winovich stands out as a playmaker even though he doesn’t have the natural talent of Gary.

That’s because of his most notable trait – a non stop motor.  Winovich just keeps coming and coming.

But it’s not just effort, it’s technique too.  That is what has helped this overachiever make his way on to many big boards.

At Michigan Winovich used those skills to produce 18.5 sacks, 164 tackles and 43 tackles for a loss over the last three years.  He was consistently productive.

The Cons:  I think it would be cool to draft a guy who looks like Thor and Winovich can bring the hammer, but what he is not is the most naturally talented edge player in this draft which is deep with players who can make up your front 7.

Hight football IQ and a high motor makes up a great story but scouts have noted a lack of lateral mobility that may prevent him from being a premier pass rusher in this league.

The Alien Dust:  I’ve seen him mocked in the first round, usually late first round, but more likely than not, Winovich will be a Day 2 pick.

He will come in to the league more polished than a lot of his colleagues and it would not be odd to see him out up good numbers a rookie.

If the Dolphins don’t take an edge guy early in the draft, Winovich can be a steal on day 2 and can help the Dolphins rebuild defensive line that needs a makeover.

Winovich’s nonstop motor is not to be overlooked – just like this bike I plan to use to roll over Tom Brady!

Rumor is Philly picked up Foles’ $20M to trade him to JAX.

I listened to Mira for a few years off and on. She was vaguely entertaining.

Check this out, i know this moron that i play golf with, he carries a concealed weapon, 9 mm.
his GF wants to buy a home so i’m out showing him a home just when the sun is going down.
i walk thru the house to lock it up and go out the back door, as i’m walking around the home all of a sudden i see a flashing light, like a strobe. i think my friend has a flashlight pointed at me, when i get up on him it’s his 9mm with a flashlight attached that he’s pointing at me. i was fuck’n pissed, i was ready to pummel him but his dad and GF were there.

he told me he wanted to show me how the strobe would disorient me! i told him you mean your pointing your gun at me, and he said don’t worry it’s not loaded.

i held my composure and finished there, the next day i removed him from his house search, he contacted me tonight and i told him like it was.

he got all pissed at me LOL
i told him he’s stupid, needs to take a gun safety course and don’t ever come around me again,

    you believe this guy?

You did the right thing. Both getting distance from him and not physically attacking him in the moment. What was the guy, 12 years old?

  6. Tim Knight says:

This could be the core that returns as the new regime totally revamps the roster. Sorry I think a lot of vets are on the way out. Maybe not all of them, but most either through trades or releases.

    OFFENSE
    LT Tunsil
    TE Gesicki
    TE Smythe
    WR Wilson
    WR Grant
    RB Drake
    RB Ballage
    RB Bolden (STs)

    DEFENSE
    DL Godchaux
    DL Taylor
    Edge Harris
    LB McMillan
    LB Baker
    DB Fitzpatrick
    CB Howard
    CB McCain

    Special Teams
    ST Aikens
    K Sanders
    P Haack

I would keep both Gray and O’Leary at TE and then you have your 4 and no need to think about the position. Youth on the cheap and a vet to mentor who can play FB also.

    • naplesfan2010 says:

I would keep Stills and Amendola because Stills is the type of personality who can have a big rebound season with new management and any QB we would play would need some reliable targets, especially with the youth at TE.

Amendola played for NE, so he should have some familiarity with Flores, esp. if he brings an OC from NE with him.

Those 2 guys were our leading receivers and have quality speed and skills. Amendola could function in the Edelman role which just won the Super Bowl MVP.

  7. naplesfan2010 says:

I just don’t know where you are going to find replacements for 34 guys out of 53 in one FA and draft. Say we trade Stills for a 3rd, why would that rookie be a certainty to be as good as Stills?

If you keep 1 OL, then you need to find 8 OL somewhere. That is a giant task and means the whole line must learn everything from scratch. Etc. for each position on the team.

I’d like to see a HC come in with some steadiness and an OC and DC who can get the max out of players like James and Alonso. Our new HC was a LB coach. Maybe he can teach the run fits and blitz pkgs better than that part timer we had at DC. Let Burke go camping in Kilimanjaro.

And any OC would be better since we did not have one other than dowel rod loghead.

Gase’s idea of offense is draw up some wild shit in the sand by the ditch and say one run to the dumpster and one to the lamp post and one go hide by the Cadillac and prolly the TE should block if he sees anybody coming; our QB will hit whoever’s open. How do OL block for that crap?

Drake’s like “Coach, what do I do?” and Gase is like “Wait. What?”

Delay of game, false start, loss of a yd. incomplete pass, punt. 32nd offense in the league.

  8. naplesfan2010 says:

I read somewhere that Flores went into his interview with a detailed 9-month plan and blew Grier away.

So maybe the excellent list idea that Tim has above is the plan.

  9. pheloniusphish says:

ORob – Dude with the gun is a moron. The kind you don’t want to be around.

    • ocalarob says:

tried to explain it to him, he doesnt want to admit that he was in the wrong, i told him what if i had a gun and you pointed your unloaded weapon at me and i gunned you down?
he was also saying that i should trust him, that he knows guns very well and would never put me in danger.
i told him why would you put me in a position that i have to trust you with my life? what if you made a mistake.
i jumped all over him and said you were wrong and you won’t even admit it!
he geez ok i was wrong!
just a stubborn immature 32 year old, i hope i was more mature at that age.
