The Wedge Scouting Report: Chase Winovich, Edge, Michigan

Man do I love riding my bike across the known universe!

wedgemotor

Nothing like a carbon suffocating atmosphere in your tentacles as you run over inferior lifeforms.

And I never need to stop for gas!  This bike has a nonstop motor, kind of like Chase Winovich, the Michigan Defensive End.

img_0111

The Pros:  At 6-3, 253 pounds, Winovich is being projected at both 3-4 Outside Linebacker and 4-3 Defensive End.  A lot of scouts are noticing Winovich when they are reviewing his teammate Rashan Gary.  And Winovich stands out as a playmaker even though he doesn’t have the natural talent of Gary.

That’s because of his most notable trait – a non stop motor.  Winovich just keeps coming and coming.

But it’s not just effort, it’s technique too.  That is what has helped this overachiever make his way on to many big boards.

At Michigan Winovich used those skills to produce 18.5 sacks, 164 tackles and 43 tackles for a loss over the last three years.  He was consistently productive.

img_0110

The Cons:  I think it would be cool to draft a guy who looks like Thor and Winovich can bring the hammer, but what he is not is the most naturally talented edge player in this draft which is deep with players who can make up your front 7.

Hight football IQ and a high motor makes up a great story but scouts have noted a lack of lateral mobility that may prevent him from being a premier pass rusher in this league.

img_0115

The Alien Dust:  I’ve seen him mocked in the first round, usually late first round, but more likely than not, Winovich will be a Day 2 pick.

He will come in to the league more polished than a lot of his colleagues and it would not be odd to see him out up good numbers a rookie.

If the Dolphins don’t take an edge guy early in the draft, Winovich can be a steal on day 2 and can help the Dolphins rebuild defensive line that needs a makeover.

img_0117

Winovich’s nonstop motor is not to be overlooked – just like this bike I plan to use to roll over Tom Brady!

You guys are still seeing Ajayi through a halcyon lense. Ajayi was talented, but all about himself. Didn’t run plays as called, sulked on and off the field. Where Gase really fucked up was play calling and not using players well.
But I don’t think Ajayi is or ever will be elite. I think Drake properly used has far more upside and Ajayi’s ego would never stand for it.
    ____________________________________________________
the reason Ajayi was mad was due to the losses because Gase went away from the run game, Ajayi carried that team on his back in 2016 going 10-6 to make the playoffs.
comparing Ajayi to drake is like comparing Stills to gesicki, two different style players, Drake could not carry a team like Ajayi carried the 2016 dolphins.

  2. Tim Knight says:

He’s probably one of those guys who they say lacks this and that but all he’ll do is make plays in games. This is the kind of player the Pats would draft.

    • The Flying Pig says:

As I was writing this I kept thinking “he’s going to end up being drafted by the patriots”

He’ll probably be drafted at the end of the first or beginning of 2nd so he’s in that area

If they let Hightower go – they will be looking for an edge guy

  3. ocalarob says:

He seems to have the right name….WIN…ovich

  4. ocalarob says:

everyone keeps saying Miami will not draft a QB or get one in FA, they have their sights set on Tua in the 2020 draft.
I disagree with targeting this guy. he has a good compl % but he’s playing on one of the best teams in college football, he’s well protected, not sure how he’ll fare with pressure.

there’s no guarantee that we will even be in a position to draft him.

6’1 220, he’s a little on the short side as well.

  5. Tim Knight says:

Hey it’s about 50 degrees and sunny out. Nice!

  6. stangerx says:

” I think it would be cool to draft a guy who looks like Thor and Winovich can bring the hammer” — LMAO. Who wouldn’t want that? And what is it with those white front 7 guys who have to have that long blond hair? Seems a guy who we would take if we go 3-4 though. Have one undersized high-pick DE already.

  7. ocalarob says:

    RIP, Arthur fonzarelli…the Fonz…Henry Winkler

  8. stangerx says:

The Fonz lives! All started on a website trying to do like the Onion and went from there. Guess the original clear satire got lost along the way.
    ———————-
Henry Beauregard Winkler, also fondly known as Arthur Fonzarelli — or the Fonz — has passed away quietly at his home in Queens. A lifelong member of the NRA and avid Trump Supporter, Winkler spent the bulk of his life alone, reading, making movies, and creating a relationship with God some would never see.

According to family spokesman, Art Tubolls:

“Henry was a loner. He has numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, but his first love was always God and hunting. He spent more time with Charlton Heston in the 80s than any one man should. Last year he spent nearly 4 months in a tent on Ted Nugent’s canned hunt farm. He really loved getting back to nature.”

  9. olddolphan says:

MRS. OD and me just had the pleasure of seeing the movie GREEN BOOK, starring Vigo Mortenson. Those of you who were NOT around in the early 1960’s will get a most interesting look at where race relations were at that point in history. It also provides insights into Italian family issues during that era.
This movie easily is the best I’ve seen during the last two years. A MUST SEE!

  10. The Flying Pig says:

    ORob and Tim

I don’t think it’s so much 1 QB in the 2020 class it’s a few of them, namely the top 3

I’m not completely sold on Tua either
And I don’t like sellingnoir for a player

But Hebert, Fromm and Tua are a nice trio

I’m not saying we try to lose more than everyone else
But I’m not sure it’s not worth drafting DL and OL early this year
And then thinking 1st round QB in 2020

Haskins is the one guy I think puts a wrinkle in this
If he drops to 13 – I think we have to consider drafting him

But I don’t think the other QBs (lock, Grier, etc) are up to that level
And I don’t think it’s wise to trade up this year

The reason we won’t be good next year is just bc we aren’t that good…lol
    I don’t think it’s intentional

  11. olddolphan says:

Highs this week in Tampa Bay will be in the 70’s with lows in the low 60’s. How LUCKY we are to live in FLORIDA!!!

  12. olddolphan says:

JAHNDOH: GREAT to see you on the board. Are you guys grandparents yet??
    ———————–
AM I the only board member putting up a specific prediction for the SB??
    TO REPEAT: –RAMS-31 CHEATS-27.

  13. ElephantRider says:

    Nice work Piggi

  14. Tim Knight says:

    Rams 30 Pats 26

  15. The Flying Pig says:

    Rams 81
    Patriots 6

  16. BailBondMike says:

Thanks Piggy. I like WINovich. When you watch a Michigan game I am always hearing his name called making a play.

  17. herdfan says:

    Let’s go Rams!

  18. mf13ss says:

    GO RAMS!!!
    HELL YEAH!!!

  19. mf13ss says:

    Suh looks explosive this evening!

  20. The Flying Pig says:

This is probably the worst way for the rams to start

  21. son of a son of a shula says:

    24-21 patsies

  22. mf13ss says:

    INT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  23. herdfan says:

Yay! I love that disgusted look on Brady’s face. 😂

  24. mf13ss says:

LOL, William Hayes just loved that mermaid commercial. 😀

  25. herdfan says:

Oooohhh! Another season of Handmaids Take coming soon. It is so good!

  26. mf13ss says:

    SUH!!!

  27. Jahndoh30 says:

Haha…easy there OD, my daughter is only 14! I’m sure I’ll have the privilege of being a Grandpa someday but I’ll bide my time for now. lol…Cheers bud~

  28. mf13ss says:

    No good… YES!!!

  29. herdfan says:

This is the best game so far. An INT plus a missed field goal. So enjoyable to watch. 🤩

  30. mf13ss says:

Can’t believe Wise didn’t get a flag for the clothesline tackle on play whistled dead, and then again on the very next play for taunting. WOW.

  31. son of a son of a shula says:

A friend got tired of not meeting women so he joined Christian mingle, his screen name is – come get psalm

  32. mf13ss says:

I see Suh playing with a lot of passion out there. I just hope he doesn’t lose his cool.

  33. bookman11 says:

Pats are the best team on the field

  34. mf13ss says:

I’d like to see the Rams stretch the field HORIZONTALLY at this point. Run it outside, for one.

  35. mf13ss says:

William Hayes wishes he was Bo Jackson in that commercial, holding the mermaid who was playing the guitar. 😀

  36. mf13ss says:

    GREAT STOP, RAMS!!!

  37. bookman11 says:

Pats are going to win this game

  38. Tim Knight says:

Good old fashioned defensive game. I dig it! It makes each score more dramatic in the 2nd half. If they score. LOL

  39. Mike E. says:

What up with Gurley? He has to be more injured than they’re saying. Shame, I would have liked to see him at full tilt in this game.

  40. What’s shakin MF and Bookman, I wish the Rams would try to establish the run game.
Gurley has barely touched the ball, I feel like they need to establish the run game on the first drive of the second half.
Goff has so much pressure on him , the goings rough. Our HC Flores is doing a killer job
he can’t win it alone, and Gurley and Anderson need to move the chains, and Goff can hit a play action pass , screens, etc

  41. Rockphin says:

Man how bad is it when your corporate catch phrase is “it’s ok” to drink this instead of the other stuff…

I mean, no, it’s not. If I get that question “is Pepsi ok” I always say no. LOL

  42. Why can’t someone cover Edelman? Anyone? He’s very elusive, but damn,
There has to be a way to neutralize him, or it’s game over

  43. Mike E. says:

NFL 100 was a great commercial. Really enjoyed that one

  44. mf13ss says:

What up, David?!! Who the hell is on the stage right now? He SUCKS.

  45. Super Bowl halftime show sucks

  46. Crowd surfing rapper, wow that’s special, lol sarcasm

  47. mf13ss says:

    OUTKAST!!!
    HELL YEAH!!!

  48. I think that dude stepped on that woman’s foot and made her scream, lol

  49. This guys pretty good, that’s outcast?

  50. I only know the rappers with recent mugshots, lol

But I love snoop, he’s the coolest

  51. The Flying Pig says:

    Skull shaver made me laugh
It wasn’t intentional by them but I laughed

  52. Rockphin says:

That half time show was “ok”

  53. I don’t like ja rule for his role in fyrefest, what a conman he is, and he should be in prison with that billy what’s his name scammer

  54. Rockphin says:

    The Supra is back!? Swweeeet

  55. Did u guys see the fyrefest documentary on Netflix?

  56. mf13ss says:

    David,

Yes, Outkast has had some really good hits over the years. They are more about entertainment than message music and are generally appreciated by most.

  57. Tim Knight says:

Gurley has to be hurt and is a semi-decoy. Otherwise it doesn’t make sense.

  58. mf13ss says:

    LET’S GO RAMS!!!

  59. Oh btw, I heard of the tank for tua scheme this year. Wtf is that, what do you guys think, I hate it

  60. olddolphan says:

Mrs OD said “this game sucks” and went to watch our TV in the bedroom while I kept expecting something, ANYTHING, to happen in the game. THIS, SO FAR, has been the MOST BORING GAME IN SB HISTORY. Even the Steeler’s 2-0 halftime lead over Minnesota in SB IX was better than this bomb!! Goff needs to roll out and throw deep to beat Pats’ grab-and-clutch defense, which, of course the refs ignore!
    —————
SAINTS MUST be saying to themselves “WE COULD BEAT BOTH OF THESE TEAMS TODAY!!

  61. MF, jarule and his partner Billy planned an extravagant party in the Bahamas,
They scammed thousands of dollars from people, promised them luxurious accommodations, celebs, super models etc.
The reality was hurricane Matthew leftover tents, cheese sandwiches, wet mattresses, no bathrooms, water, food.
The people almost died on that island, and ja rule told his concert fans t to say fuck me now, get it out of your system, I don’t want to hear complaints anymore.
He wants everyone to forget he stole their money

  62. mf13ss says:

Big loss for the Patsies* there losing Chung.

  63. mf13ss says:

    Hey Tim,

What do you think so far of Brian Flores’ play-calling this evening?

  64. mf13ss says:

Can’t believe I’m going to say this, but Adam Gase would be the PERFECT OC to attack the Patsies* right now. See, the Patsies* are absolutely dominating the box with their DF7. The Rams have got to get it outside and fast.

Run sweeps, stretches, and outside of Tackle.
Pass outside with WR screens and out-routes.

One the Patsies* adjust to that, go back to attacking the middle.

  65. Edelman wide open again ? Really? Wtf

  66. Flores isn’t going to buy into this tank for tua crap imo, why would he leave the patriots to go south and get into a tank for tua half ass plan?
If Flores is no better than this, we don’t need him imo. I don’t think he wants a tank for tua actor ,

he wants to be a HC

  67. bookman11 says:

    Love the Pats D!

  68. The Flying Pig says:

    That’s a samurai!

  69. bookman11 says:

    Go Flores!

  70. The Flying Pig says:

  71. Gurley is likely injured imo or he would be getting carries

  72. Goff heating up, nice passes

  73. Goff was late on the pass, smh

  74. The Flying Pig says:

Flores has been killing it this postseason

  75. mf13ss says:

    RAMS with the FG!!!

  76. Stupid execution, gave up good FG position, but FG is good

  77. bookman11 says:

    Pulling for the NE defense

  78. Tim Knight says:

The Pats are more than just Brady. Belichick puts it together but they are not just offense. They are game plan masters in all phases.

    3-3 whoo hoo!!!! LOL

    I actually love it! 🙂

  79. I want to see Suh make a giant play and turnover, I’m rooting for the former Dolphin, good to see one of the Dolphins made it to the big game

  80. Rockphin says:

I traded back twice, ultimately out of the first round but got 7 picks in the 2nd and 3rd rounds….

    What an awesome “re-building” draft!

  81. Rockphin says:

    woah! that was close

  82. mf13ss says:

    WEAK hold call on Sullivan.

    • mf13ss says:

I really enjoy Tony Romo’s honesty and foresight. Yes… even Romo said the holding call was nonsense.

      • Yes, I like Romo too, but don’t like gene steratore, and don’t trust a word steratore says.
He earned his lack of credibility and respect with his cheating and rigged bs.

But Romo has been a great find imo, he’s a natural

  83. Late hit on the QB out of bounds and no call, smh

  84. Rockphin says:

A 6-3 Rams win will be awesome!

  85. They still haven’t covered edelman

  86. Rams D.C. Gets an F,

    Totally unprepared for Edelman

  87. Nice pass, cooks almost had the TD

  88. Damn Gilmore pick, shifty pass

  89. If cooks makes the catch, it could be a tied game, but now the cheats can try to burn some clock

  90. bookman11 says:

    Love Brian Flores’ defense

  91. bookman11 says:

The Patriots are just awesome. They win in so many different ways.

  92. Rams defenders cant get off their blocks

  93. mf13ss says:

    LAUGHABLE Washington Post commercial!!! 😆

  94. Mike E. says:

I don’t get excited about Brian Flores’ defense at all. He’s doing it in NE with Bill Belichick’s players, and Bill Belichick gameplanning. When he does this here, with our players, I’ll be excited. Until then, uh-uh.

  95. bookman11 says:

Mike, I just am in awe of watching a great team
