Earthlings aren’t the only ones that get to see Alien Tombs on their planet. I’ve been setting up tombs for a few centuries now.
I have a great recipe for it.
First you set up a tour in the tomb. Then when the tourists get lost in the maze…you seal the tomb. Then let it rest for about a century.
And when you come back, you have a bunch of fresh fossils to show off!!!
The waiting is the hardest part. I like to pass time by watching tape of the 2018 Clemson Defensive Line. Man were they loaded! Clelin Ferrell maybe their top defender!
The Pros: Ferrell was a force in 2017 and I was getting ready to write a report on him last year, when he decided to stay in school. As part of the 2018 Tigers, he was a part of one of the most talented defensive lines I can remember.
9.5 sacks in 2017 and 11.5 sacks in 2018 make up an impressive statical line to boast about. Ferrell used his 6-5, 260 pound farm to wreak havoc on ACC Quarterbacks and he took that ferocity into the NCAA postseason where he helped Clemson secure the title.
Ferrell plays with his hand in the ground most of the time at Clemson but he does have the athleticism to rush from a 2 pt. stance. He’s one of the few players I have seen that were highly outed in the 2018 offseason and improved his stock by staying in school.
The Cons: That Clemson defensive line was really talented and when there is so much talent across the entire DL, people tend to speculate that the talent helped each other. But when it comes down to it – Ferrell was a big reason the DL was so talented.
Ferrell has a serious ACL injury in 2014. It looks like he has fully recovered.
The Alien Dust: Ferrell has been consistently good. There is a chance he is the first pass rusher off the board if teams have concerns about Bosa – so seems like a long shot to make it to 13. But if he does, he will be an excellent addition to the Dolphins. I don’t see a more complete Defensive End.
Just like the tombs I leave on random planets – Ferrell is where you go to die!

Decide which current players stay or go. Sign low and mid-tier FAs who can help get things started and/or might stick long-term in the 24-29 range. Draft the best players on your board. Sign a bunch of UDFAs and start putting the process in place. Make it a very competitive offseason and go play.
Build on that team in 2020. Do the same thing. All the while searching for “the guy” at QB.

as for haskins,
it’s not about being on a dominant team that would diminish him in the pros, it’s about accuracy and completion percentage which he led all of college football in.
just because you play on a great team that doesn’t make you an accurate passer.
being accurate should be the number 1 criteria when selecting a QB, not only is Haskins accurate but he has great touch on his passes.
I didn’t watch Haskins play, so this is a question for those that may have. In regard to his accuracy, how many of his passes were of the short variety? WR screens, drags, bubble passes, etc.? While I agree with ORob that accuracy is the most important QB trait, I think you have to look at the type of passes thrown in detail to determine it.
It was majority shorter passes. Urban Myers system is designed that way and there is a lot of pocket shifting, etc. Its not a pro-style offense. He also throws a nice deep pass, though that wasnt the bulk of what he did. He seems to have a nose for the endzone though, when you get close, he finds a way to get it in.
And what worries me about Haskins is that he has only one year of starter experience.
The OSU QB’s are always like that and the NFL exposes it. I’m concerned about him as well for the same reasons.
Murray I wouldn’t touch. Not only because he was a one year starter and is way small, but because he is also a system QB. That’s why he was able to step into Mayfield’s shoes and excel.
Yeah not a fan of his either. I think it boxes you in as far as scheme, etc. I wouldn’t bring him in as a QB, maybe in a later round but not at 13.

Malik Jackson is a guy who is being rumored to be a cut for the Jags. If he isn’t too expensive he would be a good vet to bring in on the DL because he has 3-4 end versatility. Id consider bringing Vernon back as well but im pretty sure he will be outside what we can afford to or even want to spend in FA.
I think Drew Lock and Daniel Jones are the two guys i think have the most potential to be franchise players and be producing big for their teams in a year. Both could start thier first year at least at some point in the year.
I think Dwaye Haskins could be in that list above but im more concerned with him and he could be a boom or bust kind of guy. Still worth a 1st round selection, but more bust potential. Will Grier is in the same boat but i think he is riskier but only by a small amount.
Finely and Thorson are both the golf equivalent of a lay up, so they are safer bets, think their potential to be anything but average isnt good, but i think their chance of being an average starter is really good. I think this makes them more of a second round selection.
Stidham is kind of in the Haskins/Grier grouping but a lot lower, i think a lot more chance of bust that boom, i wouldnt select him in the first or second but third on would make the risk/reward a good one.Probably same for Tyree Jackson, Kyle Shurmur, and Brett Rypien.
After that there are a number of other guys who have potential to be a nice late round pickup. McSorley, Minshew, Fitzgerald, Hansen, Stick. I wouldn’t bet on any of these guys making it, but with the right drive and determination to succeed you cant really count them out. A few of them do have live arms and decent QB skills.
Forgot to add in Murray. Murray to me is 1-2nd round talent in a package that makes you design your offense very specifically to him. Other teams have done it and been successful and if you believe in him as your guy, you do it, its not that big a deal. Still i dont know at all what they have in plan and without some knowledge of that, i dont feel comfortable saying we should take him with a first round selection, though id be more o board with it as the rounds went on and by 3rd round id consider it a good deal.
Man that seems to be the ultimate pointless trade.
Trading for a guy who isnt much better than what you had, eating his dead cap and taking on a sizable chunk of the Ravens contract too. The Raven seem to be the winners of that move, even though they are eating a big chunk of dead cap themselves.
So Denver is gaining 11 in the move of cutting Keenum, but picking up 10.5mil of Flaccos for a guy who is older and has been on a much more serious decline trend vs sticking with a guy who was on the roster, had time with the team and had some recent success. I dont think either are good options for them but that trade seems silly. Ultimately they lost a mid round pick for saving 500k in cap.
I guess they might be planning on extending him and getting more in cap savings for this year, but still seems weird to me, especially as a trade. Maybe that means that Denver is out of the running on a QB though will give us a shot at one.
It’s not clear that Denver is going to outright cut Keenum… they may want a QB competition between Keenum and Flacco. However, it does look as though they will likely cut Keenum. We’ll see.
IF Case Keenum is cut, I think we’ve got to take a serious look at him to be a “bridge” QB for us. Who knows, he might even recapture the magic he had in Minny with our WR corps and hopefully a much better O-Line than we or he had last year.

M13 — if Tanny is done, then Case Keenum has to be an option. Even if we take a QB in the draft. His base salary this year is $19 mil though. So sounds like won’t be via trade unless he is willing to redo.
NO, NO, NO, NO! We don’t need another high priced journeyman QB. I think I would scream if they made that move. May as well hold on Tannehill instead of picking up Keenum, he’s already here. Now Sonny would scream if we did that, but we’re not doing either one of those things.
Q is what his price would be. They traded for Flacco and are getting ready to cut him for a reason. His salary only comes with him in a trade.

IMO if we look to a journeyman vet his price tag has to be in the 5-8mil range. That would give us a net 5-8mil in cap savings off trading or cutting Tanny.

i think we are still paying suh, and tannehill will cost us 13 mil so trying to save money to field a better team seems futile to me because we have no money. we may clear some by releasing players but those players have to be replaced and i doubt this team will sign any fa deals that are beyond 2019, even our safety is hitting our cap at 17 mil!.
2020 is the year we can really start to rebuild with 90 + mill to spend
I can actually see what Rob is talking about with Haskins. He has this upright little bounce in his feet, like little hops, and then he just turn his body to the receiver and lets it rip. I really like the way he throws
He sets himself up extremely well when he throws, and he totally reminds me of Marino

He has good pocket presence as well.

No one has ever had the release that Marino has. I dont see it at all. I think he has a good quick release but its not Marino. The blasphemy comment was tongue-and-cheek because of how much he is worshiped among us as fans but i truly dont see it. Its just like anything, if you tell me some woman sings like Whitney or some get is as good a character actor as Tom Hanks, or as good of a writer as Tolkien, im probably going to tell you the same thing.

Well I know why you want us to bring in Keenum. He wouldn’t be my choice because if we’re going to bring in a guy with some experience, I’d want them to be younger too. You never know if a guy looking for a shot surprises and pans out. Everyone knows what Keenum is by now. He seems headed towards career backup at this point in his career.

Honestly, I don’t really ‘care’ about who we bring in as a seasoned vet. It’s more about our future at this point, so I’m not going to be picky. As emotionally invested as I am in Case, I think it would be totally understandable if he’s not our choice.

We both think Haskins is the creme of this draft. Would you trade up for him and how far? I find him to be a more talented but less experienced Mayfield. I also consider him better than any QB in next year’s draft but worry about the kind of talent we could put around him in the next 2-3 years if we would sell the farm.
I agree with you that I think he’s better than next years crop.
It costs a lot to move up but if you see your guy you have to pay the freight and go get him. Fortunately this year it doesn’t look as though you have to go all the way to one to get him so that in itself saves you a lot.
13 – 1 is 3 firsts and other stuff
13 – 4 or 5 is 2 firsts at most maybe a first and 2 seconds.
Also there are so many ways to add/get talent I wouldn’t even worry about it if we have our QB. I think we have a lot in place to work with as it is.
If you get Keemun he comes with expectations and you get what Tannehill would give you. You may as well keep Tannehill and have no expectations. Ugg.
We will also have 90 mil in cap money in 2020, that’s one way to shore up a team behind haskins, i would do what it takes to get him.
M – I’ll bite at your question about Keenum . . . It’s not that Keenum sucks, but Keenum isn’t very good either. We already have that with Tannehil. What would be the point of cutting Tannehill, paying his salary, and then signing another just like him? It doesn’t make any sense. Just go with the QB’s we have and the one we hopefully draft, and whatever happens, happens.
I’ve decided since Haskins is so much like Marino, we should trade back to #27, and draft him there

You wanna fix the Dolphins then fix the QB position that’s where 90% of the problems are.
If the teams plan is to rebuild the right way starting with the trenches then trading up for a QB pretty much slows that process down. That’s putting the cart before the horse. It’s not as if the next two years are the last years that QBs will be available. Definitely bring some QBs in but to sell the farm for one in the first year of a rebuild seems dumb to me.

I expect Jake Fromm to enter draft in 2020 and I believe he is better than Haskins. JF’s devilery is not as quick but he has good accuracy and arm strength. What sets him apart from any QB in this draft and next years is his football IQ and ability to read a defense in a matter of seconds. Many QB’s have the physical tools to be able to play in the NFL (Tannehill, etc.) but that’s not enough. For me, it’s the combination of accuracy and IQ. I mean, what makes Marino, Brady, P. Manning, Brees, and Rodgers elite over the rest of the pack. To me it was their accuracy (pre-injury w/Manning) and football IQ.
