Josh Rosen – Should the Dolphins be interested if the Cardinals are looking to move him?

I woke up early this morning and glanced at the clock behind my bed. The clock notified me it was only 7:26AM and since I’m off from work on Wednesdays, I decided to try and fall back asleep. This is the time when the mind wanders as you try and hypnotize yourself to fall back asleep. Damn the football side of my brain, because now I’m starting to really think about Josh Rosen and if he’s worth not only the Dolphins interest, but my interest as well. I tried to remain as unbiased as I possibly could, and think of the positives and potential positives of Josh Rosen on the Miami Dolphins.

Last year the Dolphins held the #11 pick and there was just the usual speculation of the Dolphins possibly taking a QB, nothing overwhelming in that direction. At this juncture, Ryan Tannehill was mostly recovered from his ACL tear and there was optimism that Tannehill could return to the form of the 2016 season where he played his best football as a Miami Dolphin. As it turns out, 4 QB’s were chosen before the Dolphins picked at #11. Baker Mayfield went #1 to the Cleveland Browns, Sam Darnold went #3 to the NY Jets, Josh Allen went #7 to the Buffalo Bills and then 1 pick before Miami was on the clock, the Arizona Cardinals traded to the #10 spot from #15 to choose Josh Rosen. The Cardinals traded their #15 pick as well as their 3rd RD pick (#79) and their 5th RD pick (#152) to move up 5 spots to get Rosen. Why did the Cardinals trade up to #10? The Buccaneers weren’t taking a QB, they have Jameis Winston. The Redskins just acquired Alex Smith so they weren’t looking for a QB. The Saints have Drew Brees and also weren’t taking a QB. The Raiders had Derek Carr so they weren’t taking a QB. Of course they may have felt that another team might move up, or they may have thought the Miami Dolphins would have selected Josh Rosen if he fell to them.

This whole scenario is somewhat important when trying to gauge both the Dolphins interest and the value of Josh Rosen. Numerous reports came out after the draft that the Dolphins had no interest in Josh Rosen, but is that entirely true? Is it possible that they just said that to calm the fan base that so desperately wanted a new QB and felt that Tannehill wasn’t the answer? If the Cardinals hadn’t traded up in front of the Dolphins, would the Dolphins have selected Josh Rosen as their new QB? I don’t know and neither do you but I’m sure Chris Grier knows. It’s a little amusing that this article itself was spawned from a report about Kyler Murray that Charlie Casserly released about how poorly Murray fared in team interviews. I don’t know the veracity of that report, yet another report from Daniel Jeremiah indicated that the Cardinals were just thrilled with Murray in their interview. If that’s the case, then it’s safe to assume that Kliff Kingsbury and the Arizona Cardinals want Kyler Murray and will take him with their #1 pick, which of course then makes last years #10 pick, Josh Rosen, expendable.

So what about Josh Rosen? He played on an awful team and to be fair, Steve Wilkes, a first time HC was fired after just one season. That’s a rarity in the NFL. Byron Leftwich, a 1st time Offensive Coordinator and Mike McCoy shared that post. David Johnson made his return from a broken wrist that forced him to miss 15 games of the ’17 season. David Johnson had a down year from the monster seasons he previously put up. He didn’t even break the 1000 yard mark rushing, averaging a paltry 3.6 YPC. He did score 10 TD’s, 7 rushing, 3 receiving, but Johnson had over 300 total touches, so 10 TD’s is basically a TD every 30 touches. The receiving corps was led by future HOF WR Larry Fitzgerald, and then not much else. Rookie WR Christian Kirk, Chad Williams, Trent Sherfield and J.J. Nelson. I mean, besides Fitz and Kirk, what else is there? At TE it was a combo of Jermaine Gresham and Ricky Seals-Jones, and the 2 TE’s combined for 43 receptions and less than 400 yards. My question is, was this all Josh Rosen’s fault, or was he playing on a really poor team with an unprepared first time HC that got fired after 1 season?

During draft time last year, the knocks on Rosen were that he wasn’t always coachable, and some even questioned his heart, as to whether he was fully committed to the game because he came from a wealthy family and he didn’t need to play football. As far as talent was concerned, I recall many experts stating that Josh Rosen was the most NFL ready QB of the group. He had full understanding of his offense and was very intelligent and could quickly digest and comprehend any NFL offense. He played in 30 games for UCLA completing just over 60% of his passes with 59 TD’s and 26 INT’s. Not great by any means.

One impressive stat that stands out to me was Rosen completed 63% of his passes in 2017 for UCLA while being blitzed. He possesses excellent footwork and throwing mechanics. In 2017, his receivers dropped 31 passes which of course negatively impacted his completion %. He has excellent touch on his passes and also throws receivers open, and also stands strong in the pocket. The negatives are he has a slight frame and is an injury concern. His arm talent and arm strength are below average. He only completed 42% of his passes when throwing on the run. He sounds like the Anti-Tannehill. He does all the things Tannehill can’t do, and none of the things Tannehill can.

I didn’t write this article to make a case for the Dolphins to trade for Josh Rosen. I wrote it to give a little information and background in order to be objective about the possibility. I really don’t believe that Rosen is an NFL failure. His below average arm would have to be in the right system, but we’ve seen a QB with a below average arm and lots of intelligence succeed right here in Miami when Chad Pennington was here. Tom Brady himself was considered to have a below average arm, and the fact that most of his throws are short crossers adds to the credibility of that, although I believe that Tom Brady works so hard, his arm is probably better now than when he was drafted. I reiterate, we don’t know if Rosen is available, but if he is, keep an open mind.

I like Sweat a lot but I would have a hard time putting him before Williams, Allen or Bosa

I would be estatic if we drafted Sweat
But I don’t have him as the room DL/edge guy

    I think it’s more like
    Tier 1
    Bosa
    Williams
    Allen

    Tier 2
    Sweat
    Ferrel
    Oliver

And then tier 3 still has some good players with great potential like
    Gary
    Polite
    Burns
    Wilkins
    Simmons
    Tillery

  2. Tim Knight says:

D, here’s the answer on Quinn.

  3. pheloniusphish says:

Piggy – Smoke season not withstanding, if Murray laid down in interviews with teams that “didn’t need QB” fuck him.

    • Tim Knight says:

There was some speculation that he laid down in interviews with teams he didn’t think had any chance at drafting him too.

    • The Flying Pig says:

      I don’t know
I don’t think he has an obligation to put on his best for people that don’t want him

      It’s his choice
He’s only hurting his chances with those teams
So if he wants to play that game – and limit his own options, it’s his business

I don’t judge him for that

If I was a gifted nfl player
And the Browns wanted to interview me
I might say “fuck your shitty city”.

I’ve turned down job interviews before
I’ve learned in job interviews that I don’t want thenjob they are selling (albeit I pretend I’m still interested to avoid being rude)

Why should nfl draftees be any different

      It’s his choice
      Those are his options

  4. The Flying Pig says:

    Tim

    I don’t think it’s good practice either
I personally don’t want a guy that’s not committed to football
But if I were the dolphins GM
And I heard he was rude to other GMs
But he was great to my team in my interview
    I wouldn’t care one bit

I think Murray is an usual case bc he has MLB waiting for him

So I get that GMs may not want to take any risk with him unless he committed and I expect my Gm to be

But from Murray’s point of view, after he won the Heisman and knowing he has MLB waiting for him, why does he have anything to prove to NFL teams

I honestly think the debate is moot anyway
I think AZ takes him and he already knows AZ will take him

  7. ocalarob says:

You may have to go back to Roger Staubach to find the best Heisman trophy QB, Cam Newton may be a distant second.
    The Heisman QB is cursed!

  8. D says:

I dunno i think Sweat has to be my top guy. Definately should be in tier 1 n your ranking too.

  9. Mike E. says:

    Cam is a sham

    • Mike E. says:

He might be one of the most overrated QB’s in the NFL. They still kinda refer to him as an elite QB, but he really had one very good season and a lot of halfway decent seasons, and one shitty season. Throw out the best and the worst and he’s just a bit better than Tannehill

      • D says:

Still if i had to choose between he and Tanny im taking Cam. I agree though he isn’t elite or shouldn’t even be referred to in the same breath as other elite QB’s.

      • Mike E. says:

I would too, but he’s not great. The Panthers had a very good run game and defense the year they went 15-1. I can’t imagine Tannehill going 15-1 anywhere. lol

      • CavalierKong says:

Mike, I’m sure some months Tanny probably goes 15-1 with Lauren.

  10. D says:

So by laid down, is that metaphorically? If so then how so?. Just aloof? Didnt care about their questions?. Didnt answer? I heard he was egotistical and aloof, but i just havent heard all of the details i guess.

    • Mike E. says:

Charlie said he didn’t really engage some teams, didn’t try to answer the questions they posed to him about plays or offenses or responsibilities of players in certain plays. He just acted like he was doing them a favor just being there.

      • CavalierKong says:

I wonder if it was like that interview where he really just acted like he didn’t give a shit. Couple of character red flags showing up IMO.

  11. ElephantRider says:

    What about Charlie Ward? LOL

He’s been a perfect professional during his time as a Dolphin. Best of luck to him. Go win the big one, just not as a Pet or a Jest.

    • Mike E. says:

I do as well, but this is how I expected it to go down. It would be nice if he can be on a SB team and win it

  14. Mike E. says:

Kong – We know of only 2 – The rest is mere speculation.

  15. Tim Knight says:

Okay so it wasn’t official yet but expected.

  16. Tim Knight says:

Mike, sad news Tom Seaver has dementia and with no longer be in public life. Horrible disease.

  17. Tim Knight says:

Well that’s one less team to trade Tannehill to. The most likely one that I thought was a possibility.

    • D says:

I have been leaning towards Jacksonville, but i can see how Washington made sense. I could also see Arizona being interested, especially if they plan on getting Kyler Murray. I kinda like him for Houston too, but he would have to accept being a backup there. With Watson injury prone and on a rookie contract they could probably eat the 13mil left over that we dont pay and possibly get him to re-work the deal and get his contract more reflective of a high priced backup.

      • Tim Knight says:

Still think Foles is going to JAX. I’m thinking Tannehill will be released and then he can go find a team to sign with. Backup is most likely.

  18. pheloniusphish says:

Swine God (or maybe it’s pork butt) – Professionals and elites in any endeavor NEVER give less than their best. Anyone who does is a loser. Or a socialist. Same thing.

    • D says:

      Queue David in 5….4……3…..2……

    • The Flying Pig says:

      Screw that Phish

Why give anyone anything for free

I give my best when it pays me or I get something back. Granted I would not be doing interviews of people were serious about paying me $

But that’s part of the NFL and that distinguishes what they do from professionals

Didn’t you ever hear the term “don’t ever do something your good at for free”

      Thats not socialism
      That’s the epitome of capitalism

If People are telling Murray to go through the motions of doing interviews with teams that won’t pick him when the #1 overall team already decided to pick him – They are just doing that for showmanship

That’s just PR so the GM can say “we interviewed Murray”

      You want my best
      You pay for my best

And if I’m in demand, you pay more for my best
And those teams aren’t going to do anything for Murray and he obviously knows it

I’m of course being a little facetious
I’m a lwyer but I’m not a complete greedy shark

There are many factors that go into how I spend my time and effort beyond money

But it’s never wasted on people wasting my time

He didn’t owe the theatrics of the NFL GMs anything for the sake of appearances

In the real world (not the nfl)
If some one comes knocking on your door for an Interview
And you already made your decision that doesn’t involve them
You wouldn’t waste your time with them

But these guys have to do this sort of circus bc it’s he nfl draft and that’s what people expect – I suspect Murray knows exactly where he will be in 2019

    • Mike E. says:

I heard that on my drive to the other office. Less money for Keenum for just about the same player, actually a healthier player.

This was another douche line he had out there today.
“Dolphins cutting the cord on some reserves and turning their back on Cam Wake”

Really Mr. TankforTua? Turning their back on a 37 year old player during a rebuild with the goal to get younger. SMH

  25. mf13ss says:

Very, very seldom do I disagree with Armando when it comes to what’s going on behind the scenes, but I think his article regarding MR. Wake today may be premature. I totally understand that new FOs/coaches generally make it clear who they intend to retain during a rebuild.

In the case of Wake, I feel he may be willing to come back on the ‘cheap’. A big hometown discount, if you will. Not saying this is how Wake feels, but he might. If he and his agent approach the team with a deal they can’t refuse, I feel he could be back.

If I’m wrong, may MR. Wake get that Super Bowl ring he’s fought so hard for. In the meantime, I’m still hoping he’s back with us.

  26. mf13ss says:

And I present to y’all the biggest douche out there, IMO…

  27. The Flying Pig says:

Between Tim wanting to part ways with Wake
And Mike wanting to trade Reshad Jones
The collective kick in my nuts this blog is giving me has reached felony levels

Why do you guys hurt the rest of us with your vision for the future
    What’s next burning Marino jerseys?

    • Mike E. says:

I wanted to part ways with Wake too, because it’s the wise thing to do at this point, for both parties.

    • Tim Knight says:

I want Wake to go out on top somewhere. You and M13 want him to stay for selfish reasons. 😉

Unless there is a team willing to take on Reshad’s contract we can’t trade him and releasing him is not worth the savings vs. dead cap. I think he stays. He’s only 31 not 37. He also fits into the multiple defense and majority nickel that the Pats ran last year and Flores and Co. will bring here. We already have 5 quality DBs we can have on the field at the same time.

  28. pheloniusphish says:

Pigs – You can’t be the best unless you’re doing your best all the time. The combine might be a circus, but as a kid coming out of college you can’t afford to alienate anyone. That team that doesn’t need a QB might be Green Bay who stops your fall at 25 even though they have Brett Favre. A half ass is a half ass all the time.

    • Mike E. says:

      Maybe he’s a full ass

    • The Flying Pig says:

      I don’t agree with that

I think focus on a goal, and eliminating the other clutter, is how you achieve goals

Interviews with other teams that weren’t going to draft you for the sake of showmanship rings of clutter to me

I guess everyone has there own techniques/style

But I don’t personally fault him for not taking something meaningless seriously

  29. Mike E. says:

Piggy – If you had a friend that worked for you and was making $50K, but he was offered a job elsewhere for $80,000, and you couldn’t pay him that, and you really like you friend, what would you do?

  30. Tim Knight says:

I think if Lock is there at #13 we take him. He checks off all the prototype boxes. Can he be coached up and elevate his game into a top QB? Don’t know, but at #13 you take that shot. If he’s only solid it’s not a massive hit. I don’t think he’ll suck. You can survive him not being top of the league or elite with one 1st rd pick. Having the chance to select him and passing on him, then watching him become a top QB for someone else is worse.

  31. Randy says:

I don’t care who we trade/cut/kick out the door. Players are commodities. They don’t deserve crap. Go earn it. You didn’t win a championship here. I really don’t care if you ever win one for another team. I’m so tired of sucking year after year…they can all be recycled yearly until we win.

DAMN RIGHT!!! HE’S OUR MR. WAKE!!! LOL 😉

Killed me to see JT go to the Redskins and stej, but at least he got a chance to get that elusive ring. If we can’t make it happen (to keep him here), I truly wish him the very, very best and hope he gets that ring.

MR. Wake is one of my very favorite Phins ever, and certainly my favorite over the last 20 years (even over JT).

  33. Randy says:

    D,
I am like a quarter Greek, so I might. Lol

  34. naplesfan2010 says:

I hope we resign Wake and Reshad and Gore and even Alonso. I love the way they play and I feel good cheering for them. And James and Tunsil and Drake and Baker and Raekwon and Xavien.

To me i will never root for commodities. Which is not to say we shouldn’t try to get better players.

But there are no better players than Gore and Wake and Reshad.
So let me keep my peeps and get me some quality coaches and other players to build a team where at least half the players are as good as those guys.

    I’m a fan. It’s personal.

  35. naplesfan2010 says:

  37. Randy says:

I’m a football fan….not a player fan. I root for winning football. If these guys can’t do it, find some who can.

    • mf13ss says:

Just playing devil’s advocate… what if our roster was good (minus our O-Line and QB) while our coaching outright sucked?

It doesn’t matter any longer (of course), being we’re in full rebuild mode. But… what IF?

    • naplesfan2010 says:

Then logically you should change your allegiance to whoever won the SB last year.
Or at least whichever team had the best average W-L record over the last 5 years.

I would hate it if we got Vontaze Burfict, cuz I hate that guy.
      I don’t care if he’s all pro.
I’d rather go 6-10 with men I respect than 12-4 with cheaters, divas, and thugs.

  38. naplesfan2010 says:

    Tim
No not the same team … just the good guys.
And get some f’n coaches for a change.
If everybody on the team were as good as Reshad, Wake, and Gore, we’d be deep in the playoffs.

    • Tim Knight says:

You’re hanging onto the past. Think lots of development with young players even with some younger vets. New culture and schemes. It has to happen.

      • naplesfan2010 says:

I’m not that guy. You should meet me. I’m old, but i don’t dwell in the past.
I listen to new music, renovate my slang, and make the new scene.
I relish the avant garde, reinvent my shtick, and embrace the new tech,
But everything that is new is not better and everything that is old is not the good old days.
I only want to keep the best from the past and replace the inferior with progress.

i never want to do anything just because that’s always the way we’ve done it.

I like Wake, Gore, and Reshad because they work hard, play pure football without drama, and keep their bodies unpolluted and their minds on task.

I would not root for Manziel because he is none of those things.

  39. Randy says:

    naples,
Actually, I’ve had several teams I’ve followed over the years. Growing up in Iowa, we had no State team, so I followed a few different teams until I pretty much started following the Dolphins in 1983. But, I tend to follow football. I just focus on the Dolphins. I enjoy the game…or the way it used to be played…not pedestalizing and idolizing players. That doesn’t appeal to me one bit…even though I “like” certain players. I’m more like that with college ball. The posters I had on my wall as a kid were Bruce Lee and Clint Eastwood/Josey Wales. Lol

  42. Tim Knight says:

Okay, this is what I thought might be the case with being interested in TE Dwayne Allen. He was with Caldwell in Indy and the Pats coaches know him. To help set the tone of how things are done. We might see some more FAs like this. Doesn’t mean we sign him or all of them. But it’s a common practice to bring in guys who know how it’s done.

It’s up to Gesicki, Smythe and O’Leary to earn playing time. If a guy like Allen takes it away from them he’s either awesome or they suck. LOL

Report: Dwayne Allen heads to Miami for free agent visit

  43. Tim Knight says:

It will be interesting to see how we build our OL because word is Flores wants to be physical both run the ball and stop the run. It’s kind of ironic. We might be getting the Dan Campbell type of HC many of us were on board with. Flores has much more experience and success though.

  45. Wow. Cross another team off the board come draft day and/or for Rosen if he becomes available. It’s getting better and better by the day.

Haskins could actually fall to us at #13.

  46. Here’s a name to keep an eye on come draft day. Okaro Alaka, LB, Texas A&M. He’s probably a 3rd rd pick at the latest, could go as high as 2nd rd. If we either deal Alonso or cut him outright this guy would be a great pickup for us. Watch his games and see what you think. He’s pretty solid.

We met with Takitaki from BYU at the East-West or Senior Bowl but he isn’t close to Alaka.

I would keep Wake if there was no salary cap, and I’d keep Reshad too. Unfortunately, we’re in a league where there is a salary cap and tough decisions have to be made. I’m willing to make those tough decisions if it makes my team better down the road.

  50. Mike E. says:

  52. Mike E. says:

The Keenum Broncos-Redskins trade definitely hurts our chances to trade Tannehill. Not many viable options left.

  53. D says:

I dont think the trade for Keenum stops the Resdskins from selecting a QB at 15, i just dont think they will trade up above us to get one and it definitely puts them as a team that would target a QB in 2020 if they dont just get a gift at 15.

So as a for this year thing, I dont really think it changed much at all. It only affected our push to trade up to beat them, and now we wont have to, BUT i dont see that we would have traded up anyways. I also still think Denver is in play for a QB, but again, its the same deal for them, if they get their guy they take him, but if not they roll with Flacco and head into 2020 looking for a QB. What you guys that are pushing for us just skipping QB this year and pushing for it in 2020 are seeing right now is what i have been saying. There is a good chance that if we dont take “bird in the hand” we are going to be left open handed in 2020.

A couple of the really touted QB’s also wont be seniors, and will have the option to go back another year, so we could easily be into 2021 before we had options, and its possible by then we could miss on those too. You have to take advantage of opportunities as they come up, or you run the risk of being passed by and im tired of us not being agressive and watching shit like that just roll by year after year.

    • stangerx says:

But did put the Skins in a QB pick at #15 would be a luxury. So with you on won’t trade up. Looking over the mocks looks like only 3 QBs are expected to go in the first and all of them going up high with Lock being the one who could fall to us at #13.

  54. stangerx says:

Keenum to Skins hurts our chances of trading Tanny, but also as Lou pointed out makes Rosen more possible. Sucks to be one of the teams looking for a starting QB…. but sure does make things interesting.

  55. pheloniusphish says:

The problem with bird in hand is you can’t mistake need for quality. I’m not sure any of these QB are worth #13. If one falls into the 3rd, fine. Otherwise build the trenches and take a late flyer this year on QB. Teams can always get the player they want. Just depends on what they are willing to pay.

  56. stangerx says:

The Giants traded Olivier Vernon to the Browns for G Kevin Zeitler and a swap of 3rd day picks. If was Olivier would rather be on the Browns.

  57. stangerx says:

Dolphins released Ted Larsen. Wasn’t a huge fan, but thought he could be that versatile #6.

  58. Tim Knight says:

If we take a QB at #13 it’s because we like that QB so it really doesn’t matter if we’re fans of them or not. If we pass on any QBs we know what they thought of them.

  59. manitobafinfan says:

And the Brown to Bills deal is apparently not happening either so just ignore my last night altogether 😔

I don’t think I’d be happy with Lock. Reminds me of Cutler
    ———————————————-
Mikey, there was nothing wrong with Cutler that wasn’t an upstairs issue and i dont see Lock acting like Cutler at all in that capacity.

    • He said he reminds himself of Aaron Rodgers. There’s plenty wrong up their

      • Tim Knight says:

I’ve read a few reports that compare his arm to Rodgers. Obviously he has a lot to accomplish to be on that level. It’s just a comparison. They do that all the time.

      • D says:

Did he say he modeled his game after Rodgers or he thinks he reminds himself of Rodgers, thats a big difference.

      • D says:

Ive never seen or heard him having said that.

    • D says:

Ifi was a QB id LOVE to be compared to Cutler if there was at least a caveat of “Cutler with a better metal and emotional state” or “Cutler with leadership skills”. Cutler was actually one of the more gifted QB’s in the league.

      • stangerx says:

Stigma aside — Cutler had all the physical attributes you could ask for in a pocket passer. Only reason he stayed in the league so long.

  64. D says:

Malik Jackson would probably be a decent 3-4 DE 4-3 DT hybrid player for us. He just got cut. Id rather have Flowers.

  65. Mike E. says:

D – I was saying Cutler because he backs up after his drop back if there’s pressure and he throws off his back foot. He also drops down his arm angle like Cutler did a lot too. That’s why I said Cutler. He might have the arm talent of Cutler which is good, but he also has some of the same bad habits Cutler had as a young QB, and an old QB.

    • Tim Knight says:

They say he needs some work on mechanics but he has all the tools.

      • Mike E. says:

It’s not just mechanics, it’s tendencies. When he feels pressure, instead of stepping up, he moves backwards. Also, dropping his arm angle is a habit, and we both watched Cutler, he still does the same damn things he always does. That doesn’t mean Lock will, but it’s proof that sometimes bad tendencies don’t go away.

      • Tim Knight says:

I’ve seen video of him moving around and stepping up. A lot of times guys with big arms tend to reply on it too much. But you can coach some of that stuff.

      • I agree with Mike on the retreating and it’s something that was pointed out about Lock as being one of his negatives. He tends to retreat more than step up or to the side to avoid pressure.

I’ve seen him step up in the pocket a couple of times but, more often than not, Mike is correct. If you watch his games from ’17 and ’18 you’ll see him retreat most of the time rather than step up. He also makes a lot of throws as he’s moving backwards.

      • Tim Knight says:

Yes that is true about him.

  66. Tim Knight says:

Not sure where Armando is getting this number from but spotrac has over $18M in cap space.

  67. Tim Knight says:

  68. Drew Lock SAID he reminds himself of Aaron Rodgers.

  69. Mike E. says:

So far, most of the cuts I said we should make have happened. More will come, and maybe the trades too.

  70. Tim Knight says:

LOL @ Lou on John Holmes

  71. I can’t believe the Jags are really interested in the possibility of signing Bridgewater instead of Foles. Are they playing games to get Foles asking price down?

If they go with Teddy I can’t see them not being in the market for another qb in the draft but maybe they wait until after the 1st.

  72. naplesfan2010 says:

    Trey Flowers

    Ja’Waun James
    CJ Mosley
    Anthony Barr
    Dante Fowler Jr
    Kwon Alexander
    Timmy Jernigan
    Clay Matthews
    Danny Shelton
    Malcolm Brown

  74. naplesfan2010 says:

also Tashaun Gipson just got cut by Jax. He was once one of the best CBs in the league.
Do we want him for a yr or 2 to take some pressure off Xavien?

    • Tim Knight says:

How does he take pressure off of Howard? It’s not like teams target X as a weakness. It’s the opposite.

  75. Tim Knight says:

Mike Glennon was released by ARZ. He might be a vet QB on the cheap we’re interested in.

    • naplesfan2010 says:

Either that poor guy’s whole career has been mishandled or he’s just not very good.

      • Tim Knight says:

I know it’s weird with him but his numbers when he’s played are pretty good. He keeps ending up on teams that draft a QB.

  76. naplesfan2010 says:

Shelton and Brown might be good DTs to get.
Jernigan and Kwon might still be good as well.

Fowler is scary like he might flip out on us.

I don’t think Barr and Mosely are anything special.

I think Trey will cost too much.

Mike Glennon was released by ARZ. He might be a vet QB on the cheap we’re interested in.
    ——————
I’ve always been a fan of Glennon, dating back to his days with “#1” (Amerson) at NC State. I haven’t seen him throw in forever, but if he’s cleaned up his delivery (long wind-up), he can get the job done.

I think he’s much maligned due to the $$$ he gotten vs his production, but he’s none too shabby. If we’re trying to tank in ’19, he’s gon’ mess around and win us 8+ games… that is, if we fix our O-Line.

    • Tim Knight says:

Stop with the tank stuff. Be better than the doofus Florida media.

Glennon was in TB they draft Winston. He goes to CHI they draft Trubisky. He goes to ARZ they draft Rosen. Kind of hard to develop when a team says they’re invested in you and then they renege which is what has happened to him. I think he could be as good as Foles. But if you don’t have a complete team ready to contend, that doesn’t mean playoffs. The Eagles are a good team. He gives you a competent QB to run your offense. And what if he starts playing really well and settles in here. Cool! There are no guarantees you land that great QB that everyone is yearning for. It’s not like that never happens. That’s why I say bring in some QBs and let them compete. You never know.

      • Tim Knight says:

“It’s not like that never happens.” This should have come after “Cool!” It reads wrong where I have it.

      • mf13ss says:

Tim, I think your whole statement reads wrong, or you read me wrong… I LIKE Mike Glennon!!! And yes, the whole “tank” ordeal has been refuted.

I truly feel Glennon has the potential to be very good.

      • Tim Knight says:

I wasn’t refuting you. I was speaking on what Glennon’s situation has been. I agree with you, I’d try to bring him in. What I was speculating is what if he starts playing really well and he becomes our QB this year and for the next 4-5 years or more. It’s not like that never happens. I’ve seen him look like a quality QB. Big dude and has a pro arm.

  78. Ken says:

What is up FUers? All aboard the Rosen train. Tank for Tua

  79. Ken says:

I have to admit I am finding it very hard to get excited about our favorite football team during this offseason

    • Tim Knight says:

Put your team rebuilding GM hat on because that is what we have to maybe not get excited about, but interested in at the moment. You’re one of the guys that has been about blowing it up in the past. You got it, enjoy! LOL

      • Ken says:

Needed to blow up the whole front office. No more partial blow ups

      • Tim Knight says:

Nah that’s overrated. And what bring in a guy like Gettleman who is spinning in circles right now with the Giants? Grier is well respected and he added Marvin Allen and Reggie McKenzie. You seriously feel Grier being the top dog ruins everything?

      • Ken says:

We half ass all our blow ups

  81. Tim Knight says:

Ken, so as long as Grier is gone it’s all good?

  82. Tim Knight says:

So the chopping block is out. Who’s next?

    • mf13ss says:

I can’t call it, dude. I’ve no temperature as to what this new team (regime) is going to do, looking for, nor even their short-term goals.

NOT being sarcastic, either. I just don’t know.

      • Tim Knight says:

I think the delay is trying to make trades but the “tanking” message out there is low balling the team. Teams know we’ll release them anyway. Unless a team wants a player so bad we probably just release. We’ll see.

      • mf13ss says:

Again, I have no idea. And honestly, there are many who think we’re going to do it the “Patsie* way”, just because Brian Flores came from the Patsies*. I believe that to be both short-sighted and lazy journalism.

        Time shall reveal…

      • mf13ss says:

I WILL tell ya this much, and I think you’ll agree: we’re going BPA every single round of this year’s Draft.

      • mf13ss says:

And I have no problem with that, if we’re doing a true rebuild.

    • Ken says:

      Tim:
I don’t think there is much in trade able assets we have. The only guys we are going to get good value for are Tunsil, Howard and Reshad Jones. The only one of those guys I would trade is Jones because of his age. No one is chomping on the bit to get anyone else on this team so I don’t think trades are the hold up

  83. Tim Knight says:

Ken, if we don’t release them by now the holdup was trying to trade them. I agree we might only trade one maybe two or none. Releases will happen regardless. It’s just due diligence.

  84. Tim Knight says:

Who’s your favorite prospect at #13 if we stay there?

    • naplesfan2010 says:

      That’s terrifying.
Honestly, ppl think we put up “pool cages” i. e. screen enclosures, for the no see ums, the malaria and yellow fever skeeters, the fire ants, and the killer bees (ground hornets).
      nah
      THAT’s why, above.

  85. pheloniusphish says:

Mike Glennon move a reminder of Cardinals’ ugly 2018 offseason

No way Arizona gets more than a 3rd for Rosen.

  86. Mike E. says:

Phelon – The Cards make us look relatively adept at managing the QB position. That’s some crazy stuff they did, and will continue to do.

    • ocalarob says:

not too sure about that, what have we done at the qb position? draft tannehill and force feed him to the fans for 7 years? at least the cards know when to toss the towel.

      • Mike E. says:

Rob, that’s one bad decision, and after 2016, you can understand giving him a shot in 2018. The Cards payed a ton for both Glennon and Bradford, then traded up for Rosen using 3 picks, and by all accounts, they will trade Rosen for a loss and then draft Murray. They cut Glennon, and now they’re probably going to take a big hit compensation wise when they trade Rosen

      • pheloniusphish says:

Well we didn’t bring in two high priced backups. Other than that not much.

  87. ocalarob says:

i think you should continue to draft QBs, not always in the 1st round but continue to draft until you get the right guy, even if you have the right guy continue!

Haskins is from Ohio State aka Meh Factory for QBs.
Name one of their recent system arms that’s made it in the league.
      Troy Smith? 2003-2006
      JT Barrett? 2014-2017
      Braxton Miller? 2011-2015
      Terrell Pryor? 2008-2010
      Cardale Jones? 2013-2015

“In the 2018 FBS season, the current Ohio State QBs are Matthew Baldwin, Dwayne Haskins, Daniel Vanatsky, Kory Curtis, and Tate Martell.” said the hype machine last summer.

“I predict one of those becomes the next big thing for the Buckeyes.” It happened.
They did not even make the playoffs.

That’s not fair nor true. Here’s a link to where SB starting QBs went to college. https://www.businessinsider.com/super-bowl-quarterbacks-colleges-2019-1

It looks like a wide area of talent since the league formed. The best two QBs today are a 6th rounder from Michigan and a 2nd rounder from Perdue. Neither are a dependable QB factory. Haskins has just as good of a shot to be a great franchise QB as any other top talent. OSU had one loss last year which is better than OU ended up under Murray. With all the talent at Bama, Tua was BTFO by Clemson. None of these guys are finished product but he looked really good most of the year.
