I watch free agency with no real regrets or jealousy to what other teams are accomplishing. Teams are spending record amounts of money on salaries as it usually goes. Players aren’t better than they used to be, there’s just more cap space available and players are demanding more. Crazy trades are happening as well, and I’m actually happy for the Cleveland Browns. They have some great fans in Cleveland, they deserve this. I think back to 1995 when Art Modell decided to move the Browns to Baltimore and created the new franchise the Baltimore Ravens. Cleveland Browns fans had to wait 4 years to have football back as they created the new Cleveland Browns expansion team. Yeah, they deserve some good things so best of luck to them.
At the moment, just by virtue of talent we are the bottom feeders of our division. We’re following a strict plan and I’m very thankful that they haven’t blinked yet. The lone addition we have made is bringing in 29 year old TE Dwayne Allen, primarily a blocking TE. We let our young starting RT leave for greener pastures in Denver. We didn’t even try to stop Cam Wake from going to Tennessee. No effort was made to keep Frank Gore here. There are a number of veteran players that likely will be cut yet still remain. They remain because the team would prefer to extract some value in a trade, and trades are happening wildly all throughout the NFL. Robert Quinn, Josh Sitton, Ryan Tannehill, Kenny Stills and Reshad Jones all still remain, and some may end up being here for part or all of the 2019 season if a trade isn’t accomplished.
The key point is the mission seems to be clear. We’re clearing out the roster and preparing for a new direction. Not surprising, we’ve being doing a version of this what seems like every 3 years or so as we change coaching staffs, but this one is different. Not because of Brian Flores, this is more about Chris Grier, and maybe to some degree Steve Ross. They’re tired of treading water and I’m tired of watching them do it. Clearing the roster and then signing big money free agents is a contradiction. Clearing the roster says we’re starting anew, and then reaching for a star player with big $$$ attached who can help you win now but not later is completely at odds. Give Grier credit, he’s following through with his mission, and is staying the course.
The Dolphins did make one recent signing and I like it. DeVante Parker wanted to stay here, and the Miami Dolphins gave him yet another chance to fulfill his potential. The basic parameters are 2 years at $10M, with potentially as much as $13M if performance incentives are reached. Considering the 5th YR option was for $9.4M all guaranteed, this is a win. None of the 2nd year is guaranteed. This is an opportunity for Parker to do what we all thought he was capable of doing. Will he do it? It doesn’t matter, it was a good signing. Low risk, high reward, and that’s the right way to do it. It won’t be like this forever, but for this season and maybe next, the key to the vault has been thrown away.
There will be rough times ahead mateys, so batten down the hatches. Ryan Tannehill is still the QB and we basically have one good OL to count on (Laremy Tunsil). We need help in the trenches on both sides of the ball and although we were in it for Trey Flowers for about 5 minutes, he eventually went to the Lions for 5 years $90M. Crazy! The Jets have added some serious talent to build around their young QB Sam Darnold. LB C.J. Mosley signed for 5YR/$85M and then just last night Le’Veon Bell signed for 4YR/$52M. The Jets also added slot WR Jamison Crowder, but they did lose out on LB Anthony Barr who left the Jets at the hangar as he ended up staying home with the Vikes.
There are still a couple of things that have great interest to me that have yet to shake out. The Arizona Cardinals are purportedly going to take QB Kyler Murray at #1 in the 2019 Draft. That doesn’t mean they have to trade Josh Rosen, but it’s pretty likely they will to get back some value. How much compensation it will take to procure Rosen is up in the air. The compensation is whatever a team is willing to pay, and we all know that can get crazy. Some think a 2nd or even a 3rd round pick might get it done, but it could end up being a 1st RD pick and more. I would be very interested in Josh Rosen for a 3rd RD pick, and even up to a 2nd RD pick. I think that’s where I would cut it off. I’ve already explained here that he was on a terrible team with a coach that was fired after 1 season. We need talent at the QB position, and I don’t think we’re going to have a shot at Dwayne Haskins at #13, and I refuse to trade up. Destroying all our draft capital for one pick is also not part of rebuilding. Stay the course.
So as we currently stand, we are the worst team in the AFC East, and it’s OK. Not because we’re “tanking”, that’s ridiculous. We’re rebuilding. We’re not mandating to our players to lose, we’re just changing over the roster and not making any “win now” moves. I still think Ryan Tannehill and Robert Quinn will be gone soon. I also think it’s still possible that the Dolphins trade Reshad Jones, but less so than I used to. We just signed CB Eric Rowe who was with the Eagles and Patriots to a one year deal. Rowe has only played 12 games the last 2 seasons due to groin injuries. I remember Rowe well, he was a combine MONSTER. at 6’1 205, Rowe ran a 4.45 40, put up 19 reps, 39″ vertical, 125″ broad jump, 6.7 3 cone, 3.97 20 YD shuttle, ALL in the top performers category. This kid is a quick twitch athlete and an exciting athletic talent and at $3.5M, it’s another low risk, high reward signing.
Hang in there Dolphins fans, we’re finally doing it right. It may be painful in the short term, but it will pay off long term If you’ve been miserable with 6-10, 7-9, 8-8, 9-7 and once in a blue moon 10-6, this is the way to end all that. Be patient, because this year will hurt. We may not be very good, and the other teams in our division have made substantial gains. One step back, two steps forward.

I think Fitz is a good fit (except now we have to differentiate between two of them). There is no way he’s our guy for the future so he isn’t any kind of progress stopper or hangup once we get our guy, but he is still capable of winning some games so the team can feel we’re not literally trying to lose games.
I think, as has been stated by many on here, this FO is doing exactly what they said they would, and they have stuck to a plan. We’re likely not going to be good this year, but I am on board with the the concept and the direction.
I think Jones may still get traded, but I think it’s likely wel keep Stills.

Fitzmagic is a solid pro. The signing hurts the Tank for Tua narrative significantly because the guy can find wins. Unless we continue to dump vets, we will probably have too many wins for a top 3 pick. He’s been 26-26 in his last 52 games. That’s pretty damn impressive for a journeyman QB.
I know this is a weak QB class but I just don’t understand why QB Gardner Minschew is not talked about more. IMO, he is #5 in this class because Lock will be drafted before him but would rather have Minschew over Lock. Minschew is very accurate. He has the best footwork out of any QB’s in this draft. His tape doesn’t lie. Watch how he is constantly resetting his feet. Also, he is a very crafty scrambler and throws well on the run. He doesn’t have the strongest of arms but I would take his accuracy over Lock’s inaccurate gun. Some will say he is a “dink and dunk” QB but that was the offense they ran.
He reminds me of a young Chad Pennington in a way.
Ryan Fitzpatrick signing, IMO, tells me we won’t be drafting a QB before the 4th round THIS year. Just a feeling. Draft Minschew or Jackson this year then snag one higher next year.
Stay the course….how you rebuild is important, too. Rashad Jones has been here from the beginning, is one of ours, so let’s trash a home-grown pro bowler…..for a “hope and a prayer”. Rework his deal, see if he wants to stay. He’s about the only player on our team I would say this about. Sends a message about the new culture?
Depends on how he wants to integrate into the new culture. Truthfully, he quit on the team last year when he wasn’t getting the play time he wanted. I’m not sure how that fits into the team first mentality Flores is promoting tbh.

The problems I have with Fitz are that he’s not nearly good enough to ride into the playoffs with or nearly bad enough for a proper tank job. He’s the epitome of 6-10 which is the opposite of where I want us. With that said, he was really bad last year with a more talented TB squad so there’s hope he will ‘shit the bed’. Either way, we get to experience the FitzMagic up close with both Fitz’s so should be fun.

We aren’t concerned with wins or losses that’s not what these moves are about it’s about rebuilding a team and doing it so we have sustainable success in the future.
That’s why I thought Fitz was a good FA QB, not that I was thinking he was take us to the playoffs not because I though he would lose and keep us with a good draft pick, just that he helped bridge the gap to get a franchise guy and add something intangible to help a new QB become a pro.
Fitz doesn’t change anything about QB this year or next, they will take a QB whatever year they feel they have found their guy at the right price. I wouldn’t be shocked to see us take a QB in the first this year, I just don’t think we will trade up. We may take one later, we might wait until 2020. Fitz makes it easier to have all those options available
Krishna, I think we all feel the same as you toward Reshad, but he will be 33 in 2 years when we finally get all our pieces together. We are rebuilding now and not in win now mode. Many of us feel he is more valuable as a trade now vs having him on the team on the downside of his career when we are finally good again. If he were 27/28, I would be right with you on keeping him.
Fitzpatrick is cannon fodder until we draft a QB and have him ready to start I’m 1-2 years
The only people on the team that I say no to trading are Minkah Fitzpatrick, Howard and Tunsil. If anyone comes calling for anyone else they are all tradeable

I don’t hate him, he’s a favorite of mine, but I couldn’t care less if he has 200 tackles and 10 INT’s this season for us, we’re not going to be a winning team. I just want to get some value for him for the future, rather than have him play out his career, and then get hurt in a year and then retire, or just fall off physically. I mean either you believe in Grier or you don’t. If we can get a 3rd RD pick for him, that 3rd can be a pro bowl player too, OR, it can enable us to trade up and get a special player, a QB or a different position. It’s not about one player anymore in a rebuild, it’s about the future of the team.

I don’t think we’re even going to draft a QB this year. We’ll take a good look at the young guys in Rudock and Falk and most likely start Fitz and target next year for the QB. We have some solid talent at quite a few positions so I’d go heavy DL and OL this year and start developing those guys. It’s been reported that we’re going to double down on the lines.
I think one of the biggest reasons we signed Fitz is because he’s smart and can help young QBs develop. He also knows his roll and where he’s at in his career. Like D has been saying he’ll be good for the QB room.

I’m VERY proud of Derron Smith. Poor guy’s been suffering through injury the last several years, including a sports hernia that prevented him from attending the Combine: he would have killed it as a former track & fielder, basketball player, and obviously football player.
That cat is a very high-character individual, a fierce competitor, and he’s an athletic freak. I had dug DEEP into his past and saw no flaws… athletic or character.

At this point the only thing i really want to see is us add talent that helps us, without sacrificing other picks to do so. We need to get the best available and not look to trade up for anyone. If there is a QB they like at 13, great, take him, if not then either select someone else or if there is enough talent left, trade back if you have the opportunity to. Do that with all of our picks this year, and then next year hopefully we are in a better spot to consider a trade up for a player thats a must have, Im never a fan of trade up but sometimes you just have to to get your guy, i just hope they only do it from now on, IF its a cant miss guy in their opinion.
