Ravens thrash Dolphins for most lopsided regular season loss in team history

The score tells the story, the stats tell the story, but eyeballing that garbage really told the story. There was hardly anything to hang your hat on from Sunday’s game. The Ravens played another game of “Who’s Your Daddy” and just knocked our dicks in the dirt for 60 minutes. TE Mark Andrews was targeted 8 times, how many catches do you think he had? Yup, 8. So much for our LB’s and safeties being better in coverage. I said Eric Rowe was going to have a tough time being targeted often and oh bot did that rear its ugly head. WR Marquise “Hollywood” Brown torched us for 4 catches for 147 yards and 2 TD’s. Rowe looked woefully inadequate and the scary part is we probably don’t have anyone on the roster better.

OK, let me get this out of the way immediately. This is NOT tanking. Yes, we have set ourselves up for success for next season and beyond by acquiring a substantial amount of draft capital, but the plan is not to lose as many games as possible. The truth is, we’re just not good, especially against a well coached Ravens team. Harbaugh always has his team prepared, and the gap between Harbaugh and Flores at this juncture is significant. John Harbaugh is in his 12th year as Ravens coach, their system is in and has been in for a long time. Sure, they evolve with the different players, especially QB Lamar Jackson, but they have a way of doing things that has been done now for over 11 years. That makes a difference.

The game started with RB Mark Ingram ripping off a 49 yard run in where he was chased down by Xavien Howard from behind, and untouched until Howard finally caught him. Those of us that thought the run defense would be better were rudely shown otherwise. The Ravens went 89 yards in 4:26 and made it look exceedingly easy doing so. That surely set the tone for what was to come. Dominance in every facet of the game over our unprepared Dolphins. At this stage of my life, for my sanity and other health concerns, I have to turn the game off and look for other things that don’t raise my blood pressure 50 points and don’t have me feeling like I want to kick my neighbors dog. I don’t remember exactly what point of the game I turned it off, but I turned it back on and saw Josh Rosen in at QB. Fitzgerald wasn’t hurt, so why put Rosen in this shitstorm? Poor decision by the rookie HC. Not a good situation to get any kind of fair evaluation there so why bother?

I’m not hating on Coach Flo, this was his first game against a better team and much more established Head Coach in his 12th year with the same team. It showed every bit of that disparity. So what happens from here? We face the New England Patriots next week in Foxborough. The Patriots beat a much better team than us handily, crushing the Pittsburgh Steelers 33-3. Now every week is different, we’ve that time and time again, so anything can happen. I would assume our players have pride so after a beating like yesterday, they will want to come out and play much better football, and it’s going to take that and more to beat the Patriots in New England, where they rarely lose. To expect the Dolphins to upset the Patriots would take a Miami Miracle. Can that happen two years in a row?

GO DOLPHINS!!

…I’ve always wondered why negative news sells so much more because I’ve always been an optimist…
    ——————
And that, my friend, is why I enjoy reading your takes… you ARE an optimist, even though the sky is falling for most. 🙂

  3. As far as the mutiny goes, the proof is in the pudding, if we see a bunch or trades, then that’s a sign it’s real,
If we don’t see any trades or cuts in the next week or two, it was likely just initial emotions spilling out after a horrific loss

Kamara is awesome, that’s what we want from Drake.
The Kamara/Mark Ingram and now Kamara/ Latavius Murray
thing is what we want from Drake/Ballage,
and i think they can do that,
if we can just run the right plays
and get any kind of blocking.

Media is in many ways similar to advertising, You have to catch the public eye, and have limited time and chance to do it, make it count or everyone’s out of a job
    —————-
I disagree with this, but JMO.

Just WIN, and the media will come properly. See, we’ve caught the eye of the media for all the wrong reasons over the last decade or so. Winning absolves all of it.

    • mf13ss says:

We’re going to have to wait for the winning to come, but when we come out on the other side of this, we’re going to be GOLDEN.

    • That’s how it works buddy, not everyone reads everything, whether it’s advertising or media.

An ad, like a news article, HAS to catch the eye, and has a lot of other ads or stories to compete with, so it must stand out to be effective

Of course I have spent over a half a million in ads in my life, so I know how critical it is to get noticed to get response.

I have never written a news article, lol. But it only makes sense they want their stuff read too, who wants to put out a story that gets ignored?

  12. Just like any Dolphin fan. The game was a bitter pill to swallow.

I kind of vented too, but never called my agent to be traded to the pats, lol

This is growing pains, and instead of stressing over it all day, I just decided to have an awesome day at work and focused on that instead

Amazingly enough when You decide to have an awesome day, and go out to take advantage of it, good things happen. I had my best day so far and on track to meet my first bonus.

Im sure most think I will predict the cheats to beat us 70-0, being negative. And I’m tempted.
the patriots are good enough to do it, and we aren’t even close to where they are.

However, this game is 10 times harder to predict than the first one, and I’m going homer this time , because I think the players are jacked and ready this time to show the world they aren’t a bunch of tankers. They will come out the gate fired up.
I also believe when You trust good things will happen, often they will mif You are in position to receive it
Plus, I don’t like the cheats track record in Miami, they suck in Miami

A FEW VIGNETTES from the football weekend.
    1) Got to I-75 to head to south Florida only to be greeted by an electric message stating I-75 was shut down in both directions east of Fowler Ave in Tampa. They suggested drivers take I-275 to I-4 then take I-4 east to 75 South. Problem with that was thousands already jammed-up on I-4 sooo– I decided to take an alternative route to St. Petersburg, then to the Sunshine Skyway where I eventually hooked up with 75 south near Bradenton. Probably saved close to an hour or so as NOBODY was on parts of the Skyway bridge route at that time.

GOT to Cape Coral and pulled over for gas. Guy in a Ravens shirt saw my Fins shirt and said “You guys are going to get CRUSHED tomorrow!” I replied. “Maybe so. But I’ll head home to my beautiful wife in the Tampa suburbs after the game while you’ll be dodging bullets in Baltimore once you get back home!” Surprisingly, he replied “unfortunately, a guy a few houses down from me was shot the day before I flew down here.”

Dolphin T-Shirts with the old, large, Dolphin logo were out-selling the newer versions with the Ross minnow logo, according to the sales guy at the team store in the Orange parking lot. I purchase an old style shirt in green before the game. It was THE LAST ONE they had left in XXL!!

Met old Dolfan hero Bob Brudzinski (Ex-Killer Bees) in a signing at the stadium sponsored by Publix. “”BRU” spotted my Super Bowl XVII hat and waved me over. We chatted for about 5 minutes just before Young Stanger met me there. BRU was jovial, alert, and full of really good stories. He graciously signed a specially made paper for this event. Young Stanger let me put it in a bag he had and, currently, it is on my dresser until I can get a proper frame for it.

At kickoff, the stadium was less than half full, much to my surprise. By the end of the first quarter, the place was perhaps two thirds full. But, soon after, fans headed for the exit in he second quarter when the score reached 28-3. The boo-birds were making noise when I left as the Ravens expanded their lead to 35-3. They would score 42 points by halftime!!!

Finally, the news was good regarding my sister and brother-in-law, who live in Pompano Beach.
They graciously provided me a delicious dinner of shepherd’s pie for the main course and cherry pie with ice cream for desert on Saturday night. I almost always stay at their house the night before Dolphin home games. They are both in their 80’s and doing pretty well. Both told me to say “hi” to Young Stanger and his wife.

    I am truly blessed.

    OUT for tonight.

    • O man, when they have road closures over there it’s a nightmare at best
I don’t like the sunshine skyway bridge, it’s haunted.

Im Glad everything going well For Ya OD

    • olddolphan says:

ONE final thing. Both Young Stanger and I looked for a program about a half hour before kickoff. I found what I THOUGHT was a program. It was full of ads, but there were no numerical lists for either team. I guess Miami’s large number of roster moves made a program listing all their numbers impossible on such short notice.

Will their be a program for the New England game??

Brees for the Hall of Fame.

  41. New Age says:

What an awesome game. Hoping for Brees to get one more.

  42. the media is sensationalizing this to get attention

Check out the headline from Fox News, who I abhore because of headlines like this one among other reasons, but this is it

“Miami Dolphins players working with agents to get traded, report says”

What report? Players are actively working with agents to be traded right now? BS

This headline is designed to get noticed, not be accurate

  43. naplesfan2010 says:

The DC blew that with loose coverage. Brees ate that up.
I know it is Romeo and he is a great DC, but he blew that one because they did not need a TD. They only needed about 8-10 yds and Ginn is fast as lightning.
Watson is a beast though, right?

  44. naplesfan2010 says:

I have often thought that that HC for Houston is dumb
and this proves it again. He loses games for his team.

All they had to do was get a lot of defensive guys tight
on the receivers and bring pressure
and chase Brees around for 6 seconds.
Even if he completes it, there is no time left.
Or deny any short catch, so Brees has to wait for a long play to develop.

    OR SOMETHING!
Anything but let Ginn get wide open for a quick 8-10 yds.

Brees is the GOAT of stuff like this.

  45. New Age says:

Houston did a good job. It’s hard to stop Brees and if you give the option of a kicker trying his longest kick ever vs other options, the kick is better than allowing the kind of quick TD the Saints allowed Watson.

  46. naplesfan2010 says:

    Teddy Ginn
    so fast

  47. Acheck this one out MF
    From phinphanatic
“Report says some Miami Dolphins players want to be traded”

See the difference? It still leaves the question open of the report, but in this case it doesn’t falsely insinuate that active trades are being worked out right now

It claims some players want to be traded, and that is possible ,
whereas insinuating active trading going on right now is just a falsehood

  48. CavalierKong says:

Watching the Raiders play on the baseball dirt makes me appreciate we don’t do that crap anymore.

  49. naplesfan2010 says:

Look at the difference in the wording of the other reports
    ————-
David, I don’t really care being that it was FAKE NEWS (at least IMO) to begin with, by little Mike Floria. I’ve been destroying little Mike Floria for over a decade now.

Major networks pick up these stories from subsidiaries and so-called ‘experts’ (like little PFT), and run with it… so take it for what it’s worth.

  56. naplesfan2010 says:

ok see it did not post when I typed
    Ted with 3 D’s and 3 Y’s.
Anyone know why it would refuse to post that?
It’s not a dirty word that i am aware of.

  57. Which do You think is more accurate MF, ?

    A
    Players want to be traded
    Or
    B
Players working with agents to get traded

  58. mf13ss says:

    Audi for the evening.
    GO PHINS!!!
    HELL YEAH!!!

  59. naplesfan2010 says:

    That Houston game was perfect.
    Watson and Hopkins played great
but the team lost, helping our draft pick status.

  60. naplesfan2010 says:

    I agree with MF13. Option C.
You can’t give a multiple choice test and
have none of the choices be correct.
    That is basic assessment science.

    • Incorrect, because The headlines are the point of the discussion, the headlines don’t mention if the report is correct or not

One source claims the report says players WANT to be traded
The other source is reporting on the report says that players are working with agents to get traded

      That’s a huge difference

The report does not have to be accurate, to write a story on it
But if anyone is writing a story in the report and what it said, they can’t change details of the report in the headline, because that’s not what the report said

The correct answer is B is the most sensationalist one ,
because accuracy of the report is not at question in the headline comparison, we are only comparing headlines discussing that there is a report, and what THE REPORT SAID

Whatever the damn report said, should be the same in all headlines, lol
Can’t make up falsehoods and call it news

  61. naplesfan2010 says:

Linebacker Jerome Baker played the most snaps in the season opener against Baltimore with 84, including 12 on special teams. Fellow linebacker Sam Eguavoen was second with 83, including 15 on special teams, followed by cornerback Xavien Howard with 80 (nine on special teams).

On offense, the five starting offensive linemen played all 50 snaps, and wide receiver DeVante Parker was the leader among the skill position players with 38 snaps, followed by wide receiver Allen Hurns with 35 and tight end Mike Gesicki with 34.

Special teams captain Walt Aikens led the way with 30 special teams snaps, followed by Chris Lammons with 26, and Raekwon McMillan and Durham Smythe with 22 each.

  62. naplesfan2010 says:

I love Walt Aikens on STs,
but you can’t win games while depending on him
as a Safety on important defensive downs.

  63. If little Johnny lies about stealing a chocolate chip cookie, I can’t write a story that he lied about stealing money, lol

The kid lied either way, but the article shouldn’t expand on it to money, he only stole a cookie

  64. But it was the last cookie dammit, lol. That kids in deep trouble

  65. pheloniusphish says:

This is what the PFT report said:

“Per a league source with knowledge of the situation, multiple Dolphins players contacted their agents after Sunday’s season-opening blowout loss and directed them to attempt to engineer trades elsewhere.”

Pretty much what the Fox headline says the report says.

    • Rockphin says:

      Phelon let it go

    • disagreed. that isnt what the report said, it figures you would try to lie for fox

multiple players placed calls to their agents after the game to ask for a trade out of Miami.
      is the report
      NOT
players are working with agents to get traded

the freport, claims that players asked about it

the fox lie, indicates that players are working with agents to GET traded

if fox was correct, who got traded?

they werernt correct, there is no report claims of active working with agents going on to get traded, the report said players asked for it

fox lied as usual for clicks

First game with the team, much the same as was with our OL, 2 were playing their first game with us, one was playing his first game on a completely different side of the ball. IMO im still kinda shocked they put Davis on the Left and Davenport on the right. Last year, and the grade Davenport got was after he was moved to the right side, he was a LT before that and he played better at LT. Davis was a RT and even said himself playing on the opposite side of was like using your left hand when you are strongly right hand dominant. Im still not sure why they flipped them.

    Jones?

    • D says:

Definitely starting to sound like a lot like Jones. This is the way this shit happens, comes out with this big overblown report and eventually settles into more specifics that make it look like what it is, a player upset about playing time.

  82. D says:

I think we should all take a moment in silence and ponder this thought…. I could really help things here….

  83. D says:

Webb likely does get a shot at LT soon, but im also betting that if they play Davenport at LT it will be a lot better than at RT. We probably get a lot of different looks in the first few games leading up to the bye week. I would really like us to have some things starting to gel by week 6 and Rosen as the starter from that point on too. Bringing him into a crazy out of hand game is not the same as letting him start and lead an entire game.

  84. stangerx says:

Some of the commentators on local radio are speculating that one of the “trade me now” guys was Minkah. Would hate for that to be true, but they patched it together with who could they trade and that he was first guy in the locker room, refused to talk to reporters and was first guy out of there. Plus talk about his Mom’s tweets from before. So just came down to speculation…. and hoping not true.

  85. steveccnv says:

Why isnt Minkah playing FS and McCain playing Nickel?

  86. sb7mvp says:

  87. stangerx says:

“We’re going to watch the film tomorrow and fix our mistakes. How many sacks did we give up today? Six? We’ve got to improve that number. We’ve got to drop that number down a little bit.”

    — Laremy Tunsil, who the Phins gave intensive training in how to deliver such comments.

  88. ocalarob says:

On a brighter note the Dolphins have a 100% scoring efficiency in the red zone this year!

  89. ocalarob says:

the Texans play the afc west…. chiefs.. SD…oak & denver …. nfc south saints which they lost to panther…atl…tb..their own division….titans…colts…jags twice this year and they have to play the ravens and NE.

    That’s a pretty tough schedule!

    say they win Oak…Den…TB…Atl..
the rest of their schedule is pretty hard

    • ocalarob says:

they lost to N.O’s, lets say they go 3-1 on Oak…Den…TB…Atl..split their division, 6-5, now they have KC…SD…Panthers…Ravens…. NE…the may go 2-3 in those games that brings them to 8-8.

that 1st rnd draft pick is looking pretty damn good.

  90. New Age says:

I’m disappointed that in a defense that’s supposed to show multiple looks, we can’t even get our DC to figure out the other team’s QB is roasting our secondary. It’s not a good look when a rookie running QB exposes your defense so easily.

  91. CavalierKong says:

It’s not all gloom and doom…

The Dolphins have the best red zone percentage in the NFL.

Fitzpatrick is averaging 8 yds a carry.

Preston Williams is averaging 1 TD a game. He’s on pace for 16 TDs this year which would have led the league in 2018!.

We are holding rushing QBs to under 10 yards A GAME!

  92. stangerx says:

So word around here is that Rosen lives in one of the buildings in my neighborhood. It’s an all rental building. Can’t blame him for that.

  93. Tim Knight says:

So will pundits now start saying the Browns will be picking top 5 in the draft after their blowout loss or is that just one game? 😉

    • Mike E. says:

They looked like shit. I have Mayfield and Beckham on my FF team. Thankfully I scored well w/o them and won, but it makes me nervous.

That’s the problem with thinking all you need to do is draft a QB high and only amazing things will happen. There’s a lot more to it than just that. Trubisky was a #2 pick and he’s still not a proven franchise QB in year 3. That’s why tanking for one guy is f’n stupid.

      • Mike E. says:

Absolutely – It’s a good start if you find your QB, but you still have to build a good team around that QB

  94. Mike E. says:

Steve – We might have the #1 pick, and if the Texans are 2nd worst, that would make #1 and #2, si?

  95. D says:

I agree i think most likely outcome is somewhere around 7-9 to 9-7for Texans, which should put them picking somewhere around 15-20.

    • stangerx says:

It’s a weak division. Just hoping they don’t win it. Don’t think a wild card will come out of it.

    • Tim Knight says:

We don’t need to worry about how the Texans finish, we’ve got the #1 pick all locked up, haven’t you heard? 😉

      • stangerx says:

We are at least in the running for #1. But actually might be better if we end up at say #6. We already chose Flores and his team.

      • D says:

I was thinking somewhere between 5-10 personally. We might be inside the top 5, but being number 1 overall is almost as tough as it is gtting into the playoffs, maybe tougher. Some team inevitably looks at their record and schedule and starts playing for the draft.

      • Rockphin says:

I would offer to bet you, but I don’t like betting against the Dolphins even when it is an easy win.

      • New Age says:

I’ve heard…and seen it too. These coaches are making Grier proud. He’s never seen so much to work with on draft day much less chosen!

  96. Tim Knight says:

Well we have to battle the Browns for the 1st pick because if week 1 is any indication they are really bad. Steelers too. 😉

    • D says:

Yeah right now i dont know if its going to be Steelers, Colts, Browns, Jets, or Bills. I mean yeah the Bills got a win but they were down 16-0 in the 4th quarter to the Jets, they came back and won, which say a lot for how crappy the Jets are, but….. Bears, Bucs and Flacons also arent looking too smurfy

  97. D says:

LOL at the headlines im seeing. “Are the Dolphins the worst team in NFL History”, ” Brian Flores tenure might end a lot sooner than expected”….lol after 1 game, holy fuck. I fucking hate the people who cover the Dolphins, they are all a bunch of panty wastes.

  98. Mike E. says:

if we play like we did this past Sunday every week, we’ll be picking #1. We need to adjust, and we need to play a lot better.
