Dolphins Win!! Defeat Jets 26-18 and are no longer at the bottom of the “tank”

Preston Williams did this twice yesterday, catching 2 TD passes from QB Ryan Fitzpatrick. The Dolphins finally put together a complete game as they held on at home to earn their first victory of the season. I’m sure Brian Flores enjoyed every second of it. The run game never got on track but that didn’t stop Fitzpatrick from using many different receivers to move the ball. It seems almost routine now that Fitzpatrick spreads the ball around and he hit 9 different Dolphins this past Sunday against the Jets. This was easily Fitzpatrick’s best effort as Dolphins QB. He finished the game completing 24 of 36 attempts for 288 yards and 3 TD’s and no interceptions. Pretty impressive, especially considering how woeful our run game was, 24 carries for 50 yards, so it was on Fitzpatrick to make things happen.

I know you all remember the scene last season where Adam Gase was sitting on the bench during a blowout loss all by his lonesome writing up plays on a clipboard or whiteboard. That same scene played itself out again on Sunday, except this time Gase was on the visiting sideline. Strange that it could occur so similarly twice. Gase has totally fallen out of favor (understandably) with Jets fans who are now calling for him to be fired. Not likely to happen as GM Joe Douglas was hand picked by none other than Gase himself, plus he has a 4 year contract the Jets would have to eat as well. He will most likely get another year with a draft that both he and Douglas engineer and then be judged by those results.

Mike Gesicki is improving and he had a big day against the AFC East rivals. Gesicki caught 6 passes for 95 yards and now has a respectable 21 receptions for 248 yards. One huge disappointment however is the fact that he still has no TD receptions. 6’5 250 and a huge wingspan and catch radius plus a 40″ vertical should have lead to at least a few TD’s, right?

The Dolphins defense had 3 sacks and also an INT for DB Jomal Wiltz. No, Charles Harris didn’t get one, it was rookie 1st RD pick Christian Wilkins notching his first sack. Nik Needham throttled Darnold on a delayed blitz where Darnold never saw Needham coming. Davon Godchaux also got his first sack of the season. The run defense was stout enough to contain Bell and Powell and keep that duo under 100 yards for a total of 81 yards.

It was great day in all, any time you beat the Jets, especially a Jets team with Adam Gase at the helm. Keep in mind Gase defeated the Jets twice last year as Dolphins HC but now lost to his former (depleted) squad. That’s gotta hurt! The Dolphins are now one of 3 teams that are 1-7, while the Redskins are 1-8 and the team that is at the bottom of the barrel but the top of the tank is now the Cincinnati Bengals who are 0-8. Odds are we won’t be the first pick, and you know what, that’s just fine with me!

GO DOLPHINS!!

  1. Rockphin says:

Dolphins QB Ryan Fitzpatrick sets NFL record in 26-18 win over Jets

Wins as QB of the most teams in NFL history with 7 teams.

  2. CavalierKong says:

NFL considering a Chargers move to London. I wonder how that would work. They would likely have to schedule their home games in bunches of 3 or 4 so they aren’t flying bakc and forth every week..

And how lame would it be to share the division with them? All those west coast teams having to fly to London every year.

On the flip side, the Brits have embraced the game, so I’m sure they would love to have their own team to root for.

  3. Rockphin says:

HA! This is how “news” becomes news…..the actual quote in the article states

But The Athletic reporter Vincent Bonsignore quoted sources as saying “the possibility of the Chargers moving to London has been broached among league personnel” and the “Chargers would at least listen if the NFL approached them about about London as a possible option.”

So it goes from “the possibility has been broached among league personnel” (Probably by the reporter himself!!) and the “Chargers would at least listen” which is to say they haven’t been approached about it and have not said that they would…..

    • CavalierKong says:

Ahhh, I got taken on that one.

Not sure what article I read (I think it was MSN), but it didn’t quote anyone, just a general statement of the NFL considering it.

  5. rich0322 says:

Yea, they were talking about the Chargers to London thing this morning on Dan Patrick. They mentioned some realignment might be necessary if they were to ever do it. One suggestion was moving the Chargers to the AFC East, moving Miami to the AFC south, and moving Houston to the the AFC West.

  6. The Flying Pig says:

I would much rather be in the afc south than the east
No more (or much less) cold weather December games

  7. CavalierKong says:

The Chargers move to LA was stupid to begin with. They won’t be staying there. That city will not support two football teams, and the Chargers will always be the lesser draw.

  8. wyoming85 says:

I guess this answers the London question!

    • stangerx says:

So back to the Jags. A reason why the y have been playing there each year. If comes to it will be them, even if half year.

      • D says:

Also their owner owns one of the Brit football clubs, so its not a far stretch to think he might like having all his teams in England.

    • D says:

Incidentally, most the Chargers fans hate him.

    • CavalierKong says:

“Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, one of the most influential NFL owners and a key figure in the relocation of the Rams and Chargers to Los Angeles after having pushed for a proposal allowing the two teams to relocate and play together in the same stadium, added to the strong denials of the report.”

  16. D says:

Ok so keep talking Tua and other prospects, what about if someone like Cam Newton was available, Dalton, Trubisky, or Brissett become available in the offseason? Would you take any of them over draftng one of the other guys and use the picks on something else? Do you draft a QB and try to land a guy like Fowler Jr, Bud Dupree, Erik Armstead, Yannick Ngakoue, or Matt Judon in FA? Do do an OL grab in FA and a QB/PR in draft? Just keeping in mind we do have a lot of cap to play with and picks, whats the best strategy for 2020, also keep in mind we could have good cap and picks for 2021 too.

  17. Rockphin says:

Well Omar, who exactly gives a shit what you want!?!?!?

    Just Say No To Tua
    #JSNTT

  18. D says:

I think there is a real chance to trade back this year, especially if we get 1 overall. No one is going to like to hear that we didnt use the 1 overall but i think the Bengals would certain deal with us to get that first overall and get their QB. Dalton is done, they have a lot of tools that are on cheap contracts and they probably want toget something out of players like Mixon and a fading but still potent AJ Green (if they dont trade him for a pick). I could see them doing a deal with us and giving up a future first or a current year second which i would make that deal in a hearbeat to move back, what probably would be 1 spot. If we dont get 1 overall there will probably be opportunity to trade out and pick up picks but at that point we might be giving up shots on Chase Young or Andrew Thomas, etc and im not sure id want to do that.

  19. Rockphin says:

Panthers place Cam Newton on injured reserve
General manager Marty Hurney explains the decision to put the quarterback on IR with a foot injury.

Not much of an explanation needed. When you RUNNING BACK hurts his foot he can’t run so you put him on IR.

  20. wyoming85 says:

    D
I’m pretty sure we will get at least 1 OL in FA.
    Maybe 2?

I think it’s going to be a NE type draft!
Target certain players, and get them no matter the cost!

Then again maybe they fill the pantry this year, and start that philosophy next year?

  21. wyoming85 says:

Is this better Mike C? 😉

I think I have my new favorite prospect

  28. Tim Knight says:

Piggy, I hear ya but that’s why I said we have to see who we add in FA where I expect us to go after Edge and OL. Top corners are expensive and we already paid X so if you can draft them 1st or 2nd rd and have them for 4-5 years that’s the way to go. We’ll have to pay a top edge guy in FA but I believe we will and I can see us signing a quality OL in FA as well but maybe not the top tier.

  29. Ken says:

I don’t know where I stand on Fromm anymore. He has had an up and down year

    • New Age says:

Not a Fromm fan anymore. Too much game manager for a top pick. My sister would hate hearing this, but it’s the truth. Give me Tua, Burrow or even Herbert.

    • Tim Knight says:

It’s always about their upside at the next level, not just their college performances. Can they get better at a higher level of competition in time? Whoever the QB is that we draft I hope it’s not a guy with some sort of significant limitation. I’ve seen Fromm’s arm strength questioned but they said the same thing about Daniel Jones and I don’t see it.

  30. The Flying Pig says:

    Here you go Tim

  31. Tim Knight says:

There are a lot of new faces in the building who know players from their experiences. Flores and his coaches along with Reggie McKenzie who is focused on pro talent while Marvin Allen is Grier’s righthand man for college talent. This is why 2020 is so important. We’ll have too many resources and we can’t fuck it up!

  32. son of a son of a shula says:

Josh Dobbs might be available soon when Foles is back. He’d be a nice project at this point. He’s your number 2 no matter what happens with Josh Rosen or who we might sign or draft.

  33. ElephantRider says:

Everybody thinks its Tua or bust. I’m going to love it when Fins trade back.

    FTW
    GO FINS

  34. Rockphin says:

Son, I’m not picking on you. I am sincerely interested. What the hell is your obsession with Joshua Dobbs? Are you related? Or did you just form an opinion of the kid in high school and are stubbornly sticking by their opinion? What is the allure? Seriously?

    • TryPod says:

It’s the “Cam Newton” effect, where objects on the TV appear better to some than most others 🤣

    • rich0322 says:

I can say that Dobbs is an extremely smart kid. I’m talking Ivy League smart. Great character too. I watched a lot of his games at Tennessee. That was before Tennessee started losing every single week in the SEC.

  35. The Flying Pig says:

I don’t really get the Tua or bust crowd

I think he’s the #1 overall prospect too
But I also think it’s silly to think the future of your franchises hinges on 1 prospect

We are in great position to significantly improve up front
We are going to have 4 picks in the top 40 – that’s huge

    • TryPod says:

Where I may diverge from you is that I’m not sure he is the definitive #1 prospect based on his ability alone. I think the fact that he plays for arguably the premier football program over the last decade or so elevates his apparent skill set.

      • The Flying Pig says:

He’s the premier player on the premier football team
He totally changed the way Alabama offense is run

    • TryPod says:

I don’t think that makes him the best player for an NFL team to put a #1 on him. He very well may be, but it doesn’t make him so, and I don’t think he is. And again, his performance against comparable competition did not have him standing out.

      • TryPod says:

I say all this while I also concede he very well may be a great NFL player, and if it’s for the Dolphins, all the better.

  36. Mike E. says:

Wyo – Are you scared of losing Cole to the Yankees or Angels?

    • wyoming85 says:

Well who doesn’t want to keep the best pitcher in the game instead of letting your rivals get him!

But then again, they didn’t win it with him either!

I don’t know how much it’s gonna cost, but the Astro’s have offered him 17 mil / year. to start the negotiations.

      We’ll see how it goes?

      • Mike E. says:

They’re going to have to go farther north to sign him. I would think more than $20M, maybe close to $30M

  37. pheloniusphish says:

Piggy, I think you are correct. If a team thinks any one pick will make or break there team, they’ve already broken it.

  38. Mike E. says:

Piggy – That list of CB’s doesn’t overwhelm me. There’s not one guy I’d go all out to get. I think we’ll grab one or two in the draft and then find some no name guy who has the skill set we like in FA, maybe he’s not even on that list

    • rich0322 says:

Yea, I’m on record in wanting the secondary to be one of our priorities this FA/draft. I think drafting a CB and safety early plus signing a CB and safety in FA should be the focus. We need major depth, so we are talking 4 CB min and 3 safeties that can contribute on the spot without us saying oh we’re in trouble now with so and so hurt. Flexibility is a major plus too with the DBs.

  39. Mike E. says:

Wyo – Dude was 35-10 the last 2 years. They didn’t win this year, but it wasn’t because of Cole.

    • wyoming85 says:

I love the way Cole pitches!
      Quick to the plate!
There it is ,hit it if you can!

They like him! He likes it here!

I don’t know if we can outbid the Stankee’s?

I’m actually more worried he’ll end on the Redsocks!

  40. wyoming85 says:

Round 6 Pick 21: Isaiahh Loudermilk, DT, Wisconsin (A+)
Round 7 Pick 24: Steve Nielsen, OT, Eastern Michigan (A+)

  42. New Age says:

Tua is the best QB available but there are others. As Tim pointed out, we have 4 top 40 picks. We’ll be just fine.

I’m sickened to see Cincy tanking with no one in the media calling them on it. We’ve heard it for 6 months+ and suddenly it was a misconception that was somehow going around. It was a media pushed agenda that is still being pushed by the clowns in Miami. No wonder the media has issues with many in the public. Snake oil salesmen eventually are discovered.

    • TryPod says:

This may be (Tua being the best QB available), but this does not mean he is a worthy #1 or an NFL starter. And this is me addresing different discussions I’ve had about him, not a response directed at you or anyone in particular.

  43. stangerx says:

Phins are 9.5 dogs to the Colts. Call me crazy, but I call that line giving us a little more respect. Game is in Indy and the Colts are 5-3.

  44. The Flying Pig says:

    WY

A torn labrum is not really a hip issue. It’s the tissue that holds the bone in – I know bc I have the same injury and I manage to trot around the barn just fine

Actually it’s a common injury in sports, I think AROD has it too and recovered

When I had mine I did physical therapy but that’s bc I’m not an athlete (except in my fantasies) but when you do the surgery and shut down for a season – they surgically reconnect the tissue

I think an injury like that does drop someone’s stock
But a late 2nd round or an early 3rd for an OT that would otherwise have a 1st round grade seems fair

    • wyoming85 says:

Don’t get me wrong I like the guy!

Just don’t know if Flores will through his net that far?

    • D says:

It depends on the severity of the tear, and how obstructing it is to the rotation in the socket. I saw a friend of mine who had to have surgery because of his and they recorded the surgery and it can be pretty nasty. It just depends on the severity but it can be something that very hard to recover from as well. Also that was the start of Pouncey’s issues here. He wasnt right after so it really depends a lot on the recovery, the surgeon, etc.

  45. The Flying Pig says:

    Me doing physical therapy

  46. Rockphin says:

wyoming, You better trade some of that first round capital from this year for future picks next year if you think you are going to get Lawrence next year. Unless we purposely tank next year we will have to trade 1/2 our picks to get up to #1 next season to take Lawrence.

  47. wyoming85 says:

  48. D says:

    Your Picks:
Round 1 Pick 4: Chase Young, DE/OLB, Ohio State (A)

Round 1 Pick 25: Joe Burrow, QB, LSU (A-)

    • The Flying Pig says:

That’s pretty good with leatherwood, a prince and Kindley

But we all know Burrow won’t last to 25

      • D says:

I started to take Burrow at Leatherwoods spot just to be more legit, but the draft gave him to me anyways, Herbert was also on the board thats why i gambled.

  49. wyoming85 says:

He reminds me of Landry with his effort after the catch!

  50. wyoming85 says:

We have enough picks, we can get the #1 RB!

  51. wyoming85 says:

Or if you want to go bargain shopping!

I even think ORob would like him!

  52. TryPod says:

I know I root for them, but RB Feaster on the Gamecocks is worthy of looking at. He is easily 1/2 of the offense (and is a transfer from Clemson after 2 national championships), the other half being Edwards at WR, who I see as very productive in an offense that needs a receiver that is willing to do the dirty work.

  53. D says:

There are enough Rb’s there is going to be talent deep. Perine is a really good back and im sure he is a 4-6 round guy (even though First Pick gave him to me in the 7th.

    • D says:

Swift is good, but Etienne, Hubbard, Dobbins, Taylor, etc are all pretty dynamic players. You also have Akers, who is on a shitty team but is still a solid player, Perine, Harris, Hill from MSU, and the human bulldozer Keshawn Vaughn

  59. D says:

Try, Feaster is good, he put up 175 on UF and we are usually a good run stopping defense (though this year seems to be hit or miss how we wrap up on tackling). He averaged like 7 run. Swift only got a little over 3 a rush with a total of 86. He seems to be sliding under the radar. I bet he elects to attend the Senior Bowl and will get some attention there.

    • TryPod says:

I might be more intrigued by Edwards from that team, but you see what I’ve seen. The kid is good, runs North-South, doesn’t shy from contact, but doesn’t look for it, either. Not a speedster, but seems to get the most from his touches.

LOCAL GATOR FAN here in Tampa Bay told me “there’s a LOT of interest in young Mr. Trask. Several scouts have been checking him out since he became Florida’s starting QB. My guess is that with so many NFL teams in need of a QB, Trask will be drafted well above where he should be taken. His moxie and attitude will be a plus come draft day. And his ability to play well in big SEC games won’t hurt his chances, either.
    —————–
I NOTICED THAT many of you board members are selecting O-Linemen in the first two rounds of our 2020 draft. I’d be THRILLED if we took the best O-line guy available with our third first round pick. I’m thinking QB first pick and best defensive player available with our second first round pick. NOW, if we could just get MF-13 or Mike E. to do the picking, we’d be WELL AHEAD of where we’ve been the last several drafts.
    —————-
I’m SURE there are several folks on this board who could do a better job than we’re used to having the last 11 seasons.

  66. olddolphan says:

YOUNG STANGER: The loss of Preston Wilson will really hurt our passing game. And I’m NOT sold on Ballage as our top RB for this game, either. I think we’re in Deep Shit on this game!

  67. Rockphin says:

Damn, Tankersly going from PUP list to IR for the rest of the season. We may never see him again in a dolphins uniform. I had hope for the kid.

  68. Mike E. says:

I like my new job, I really like the people I work with, the staff is so helpful and they’re all really nice. On the other hand, I am so busy at work my head spins sometimes. The day sure goes by a lot quicker too, so there’s that.

    • D says:

Thats because you are the old turd going down the new high efficiency toilet bowl. The cyclonic action is just too much for your old, just floating along, ways.

      • Mike E. says:

Yeah, I don’t think that’s the case. It’s just a very busy place that needs 2 people and for the most part I’ve been working alone. I was under the impression it was going to be 2 of us most of the time and I’ve been seeing that now it’s mostly going to be a one man show. They said they may hire someone in December or January and I really hope they do. I need help.

    • stangerx says:

Glad you like the new place. And putting the bright side on it — having to get one thing after the other done sure does make that clock go. Only problem is if you get in frenzy mode with more to do than you can handle.

      • Mike E. says:

That’s exactly what the issue is. There are times, just like last night, where the customers come out of the exam rooms fast and furious and we get a few walk ins to buy glasses or contacts and then all of a sudden I have 6-10 orders to process with insurance as well, and no time to put them in. That just puts a lot of pressure on me because it takes so much more time to process orders with insurance and I know I’m going to be keeping someone late to wait for me to finish up.

      • stangerx says:

If becomes a regular problem point it out to your bosses. I would do it in a “our customers are getting the service they deserve” way. Makes you the selfless company guy.

      • stangerx says:

        Sorry — “are not” getting…..

  69. stangerx says:

Rock — why do you say we may never see Tankersley again in a dolphins uniform? You thinking his recovery was as far as it cold get and he still didn’t have it? I was thinking let him rest till camp.

    • Mike E. says:

He’s under contract next season, so we’ll have another chance to see how he is fully healthy. It will also be a contract year for him so he will have even more incentive to show up and play well.

    • Rockphin says:

It’s just the nature of the NFL sometimes. I may be wrong, but Tank wasn’t this new coaching staff’s guy, wasn’t able to get back this season. It has been a year since the injury. I just think if he was able to show anything we would have kept him and not be signing all these guys off the street and practice squads.

      • Mike E. says:

Maybe his recovery didn’t go as well as expected and he just wasn’t ready. Rather than putting him in a situation where he wouldn’t be able to perform well they’re willing to wait until next season. That makes sense to me.

  70. Rockphin says:

Mike you may be right. If they activated him off of PUP they could only cut him or put him on IR. Instead they gave him his 3 weeks of practice that is allowed by the league and then put him on IR and they keep his rights.

  71. The Flying Pig says:

    Mike

Next time your head spins at work bc you are so busy
    Do what I do

    Take off your pants

You will feel free of the stress and your coworkers will know that you are someone to be reckoned with…they may be so impressed that they call the police!

    That’s showing them!

  72. stangerx says:

Something is just wrong with Anotonio Brown. Thinking mental illness. My response would be Imagine a system that gave you all those millions.

He’s got a way with words. Yikes! Yeah the NFL treated him awful with all that money and fame. Now go away!

    • CavalierKong says:

LOL, I’m sure his life would be so much better, and he would command so much more respect, if he’d never played in the NFL. There’s always room for illiterate narcissists at McDonald’s, Taco Bell, Wendy’s, etc…

  73. steveccnv says:

Poor guy, the NFL gave him chance after chance, despite how he treated everyone around him. In any other job he’d be sweeping the floors.

  74. steveccnv says:

There’s a reason you don’t see this BS in the NHL.

  75. Tim Knight says:

Why not let Tank compete in camp next year. What’s the harm in that? It wasn’t performance, he was coming off of season ending knee surgery in 2018 and recovery is different for everyone.

  76. Mike E. says:

    LOL @ Kong!

  77. Tim Knight says:

The players who are going to suit up just go out there and compete and do your job. Your performance is your resume. The rest of the league is watching.

  78. D says:

The more you read about the CBA and the different rules regarding things like IR/IR with designation, NFI, etc the more you realize there is a clever little chess match going on behind the scenes with these designation that have a lot more to do with contract negotiation strategy than just putting an injured player on the correct list or “stashing” a player.

    • D says:

As a for example, recently Trent Williams who was holding out, attempted to report to the team in a way that he could still accrue a year on his contract. The Redskins then, due to the discovery of the tumor or whatever it ws, put him on the NFI IR because the discovery occurred outside of when they were playing making it a NFI. Because he is on NFI, he accrues no time on his contract. So basically they kept him from losing a year on his contrct, which helps them be able to trade him for more when next year rolls around.

    • Tim Knight says:

That’s why you see things happen that the media and fans don’t understand but have major opinions about it. Not all teams make good decisions but none of them do things without a reason.

  79. Tim Knight says:

Just putting this out there. LOL

  80. Rockphin says:

Tim, I agree they should let him compete next camp. I just don’t feel they will. Because I like him. It’s akin to Piggy buying a jersey. Kiss of death

  81. Tim Knight says:

Let’s be honest, Tua has had durability issues in his college career. He’s going to face much more fierce competition at the NFL level every week. The Alabama pedigree scares me about him.

  82. Mike E. says:

Stanger – My direct boss is aware of the situation and he wants to hire someone. However, he has got some friction from the big boss who owns the practice, he’s not quite ready to hire another Optician at the moment. I think I may have to put it out there myself to the big guy to test the waters, especially with the end of the year coming, which means a shit ton of people using up their insurance and flex spending money.

    • stangerx says:

Just come hat in hand to the big guy and say you feel bad about not being able to take care of the customers properly. He’ll either take it from there or he won’t.

    • son of a son of a shula says:

It sounds like you need a paper pusher/button pusher more so than another optician. Good luck, glad to hear you enjoy it there.

  83. son of a son of a shula says:

Bob Stoops to Florida State? 🤷‍♂️

    They’d be lucky

  84. Mike E. says:

Sonny – I can see why you’d think that, and in a way you’re probably right, but a button pusher would have to learn an awful lot about optical to be able to put the orders in and submit the insurance. We really need an Optician, because if one Optician calls out it wreaks havoc on everyone and leaves one office w/o an Optician. That’s another reason to hire one.

  85. The Flying Pig says:

This little Piggy 🐷 is drooling over the stats of Tua, Burrow and Herbert

    Yes stats aren’t everything
    But they are something
And each of these 3 QBs don’t turn the ball over much and throw for a high comp %

    Some dismiss it as college
But but go back and compare there stats to guys like Rosen, Darnold or Allen

    They are a cut above

I hear people pick one all the time and wrote off another one
And I don’t get it at all

This appears to be a very good QB class

Can we get a good one a build around that QB?

We have the ammo to do that

    • Mike E. says:

I think the most important thing is not to fall in love with one guy and do anything and everything to get him, especially if we have them rated pretty closely. I suppose if we have Tua rated that much higher than the others that would change the situation, but if they’re close, just get one of those guys w/o trading up and then kill the rest of the draft with OL and pass rushers, CB, etc.

      • The Flying Pig says:

        Yeah exactly

Those other three spots are screaming 😱 for help

If you walk away from the draft with a QB, OL, Edge and CB in the first 40 picks that will be quite a success

  86. The Flying Pig says:

  87. Mike E. says:

Thought it was interesting yesterday, I was in the car listening to Jim Miller and Pat Kirwan and they were talking about the draft. This goes go back to the whole BPA vs NEED discussion. Miller was saying teams definitely draft need. When teams have a significant need at a position they address it, whether that player is the best on the board overall or not. I have to agree with this. I think because of the need yo have to accomplish what you want at any given spot, whether it’s QB, DE or OL, you go and get that player at that position that does that for your team.

This was an excellent post Mike! I’ll really be interested to see how Mia goes about the position. Do they go after an immense physical talent who’s shown the awareness that he needs improvement and continues to do so. He’s not as mentally sharp on the field as some prospects, but he’s not a dummy & continues to improve.

Do they go after a football mental wizard who’s physical traits are good enough to excel in the league. Someone who pre-snap knows exactly what the D is doing and can take adavantage of that 90% of the time.

  89. bailbondmike says:

Look at the OL Tua has and not to mention his WR’s. Probably his 3 WR’s go in first 2 rounds (maybe 3). He can make all the throws but I have not seen any great anticipation throws by him which is why he has to scramble and extend plays. He is really good in that regard otherwise we would not even be talking about him. Burrow does that very well every game.
    Draftwire:
“Breaking out after an incredible primetime performance on the road against Texas in Week 2, the LSU quarterback has continued playing at an elite level the whole year. He is an extremely accurate thrower who times his passes perfectly and throws with a sharp sense of anticipation. He can throw a precise deep ball and has good touch on nearly every one of his throws.

Burrow excels at a lot of the little things, which is exactly what a lot of prospects struggle with coming out of college. He has admirable pocket presence, as he can maneuver defenders well in the pocket, and his accuracy is relatively unfazed by incoming pass rushers. He has shown that he can calmly go through his progressions, look past his first read and make the intelligent throw. Burrow’s upper-body mechanics are just about perfect, as he throws with a quick and crisp throwing motion and has a high enough release.

    Bottom Line

Nobody has improved their draft stock over the course of the 2019 season quite like Joe Burrow has. With his pinpoint accuracy, impressive decision-making and superb poise, he has all of the makings of a long-term starter in the NFL. A legitimate argument could be made that he should be the first overall pick in 2020.

    Projection: Top 3

    • The Flying Pig says:

I actually think Tua does the little things well. I actually think he’s drool-worthy in this regard.

I was actually discussing that with Ken at the Fest a few weeks ago

Yeah Tua is surrounded by talent
But can you say that LSU isn’t stacked too?

Actually looking at a lot of the current crop of QBs, most of them have pretty good OLs or weapons or both

Lawrence/Clemson (I know he’s staying in school) has Higgins and Etinienne
Oregon/Herbert has one of the best OLs in college
Fromm/GA plays behind the best LT in college and hands off to the best RB
Eason/Washington has Trey Adams blocking for him
Jalen Hurts/OK takes his snaps from one of the two best if not the best centers in college and throws to Ceedee Lamb

Maybe we should start giving Jordan Love more credit bc Utah State is a JV team relative to the others…lol

I have a tough time looking at the talent around these guys as a negative, albeit I do give Love credit for being at a small school without much talent

      • TryPod says:

Manti Tu’a? I kid, I think he is a better prospect, but the hype is similar. I’ll probably be wrong, he’ll be great, but I don’t see what others seem to as far as his being the best QB prospect this cycle.

      • The Flying Pig says:

        He’s just dreamy!

(Piggy gazes into the sky and flutters his eyelids)

      • TryPod says:

Dolphins got a streak going ….. 4-0 against the spread in the last games.
Guess that is one way to start winning a bit more respect.

  91. stangerx says:

In the after the burn to the ground year, we’ve talked about finding players for the future. But not all are UDFAs or low-end draft choices getting a chance to play.

We re-signed DeVante Parker on the relative cheap too. Have him inked for $5 mil next year. Looking like a good move now. Sure won’t be a cut candidate at least.

  92. TryPod says:

I’m hoping we’ll be able to go BPA for our draft as it seems we could use an infusion of talent pretty much everywhere. If it’s Tua, fine, I like the kid from Ohio State, too, and we could certainly use some line help.

    • The Flying Pig says:

We will get a good player if we pick in the top 5

I’m a little worried about the “we should have done this” crowd after the draft

I’m ranking them in terms of my preference, but there is this psychological effect of people picking their favorite and 💩ing In everyone else that’s frustrating me

It’s a little more more prevalent on social media than on this blog

Before the season I thought there would be a debate between Tua and Herbert as the top prospect
Tua pulled away early in the season
But a 3rd QB entered the discussion as a possible top pick

And when you look at those 3 prospects, there’s a lot to like

So having 3 picks and having – first tier of QB prospects (rather than 1 guys to covet) kinda makes more sense to me and makes me optimistic

Plus I don’t have to buy into this lose every game logic to get a franchise QB

When I heard the Bengals hired Taylor, this is what I thought about him.

    Omar Kelly

    @OmarKelly
The Bengals aren’t tanking. They are just horrible and poorly coached. I have no idea who meets Zac Taylor and thinks he’s a head coach. I don’t expect Cincinnati to win a game unless they beat the Jets or Browns. Clearly the Bengals need a new QB so they have to tank.

  95. Randy says:

The bottom line is, regardless of what position they draft where, when all is said and done and the hay is in the barn, they need the picks they do make to be good players for this team. We could upgrade our talent at virtually every unit, so “need” for us is everywhere. Our 1-3 rounds have got to be guys who pan out. You can’t keep missing on high round draft picks and e pact to build a team. I really don’t care what positions they prioritize where….just get the picks right most of the time.

  96. Tim Knight says:

Piggy, I think draft prospect preferences have already started so there will be criticism by some with whoever we pick. I think we need to look at the offseason with FA and the draft as a whole, not necessarily how and where positions were added.
