WR's – Current depth chart and needs

DeVante Parker – 6’3 216

Allen Hurns – 6’3 195

Albert Wilson – 5’9 195

Preston Williams – 6’5 218

Isaiah Ford – 6’2 194

Jakeem Grant 5’7 171

Ricardo Lewis – 6’2 215

Mack Hollins – 6’4 221

Gary Jennings Jr. – 6’1 216

Andy Jones – 6’1 217

Terry Wright – 5’10 177

Trevor Davis 6’1 188

A quick glance at the depth chart shows you we have a lot of big receivers, a LOT. We have a couple of diminutive receivers too, like Grant and Wilson but otherwise we have large quantities of bigger receivers, over 6 feet. As to where some of these guys are the depth chart are isn’t important, it’s basically just a list of who’s on the roster as all of this is subject to change. I do believe that until Preston Williams shows he’s fully healthy, our main outside receivers will be Parker and Hurns, and if Wilson is able to convince coaches he’s healthy enough to produce like he did the first half of the 2018 season before the hip injury, he should be our slot receiver. After that, it’s a Battle Royale and only a few more will survive.

I’d have to say that our receiving corps is a strength of this team and one of the few units that will likely remain most intact and least changed as least as far as the first 4 or 5 of the depth chart. The order may change, but I think those 5 guys are probably going to be the 5 guys on the chart come the start of the season. DeVante Parker had an impressive season and his stats don’t even tell the whole story. While his stats are impressive in their own right, the way he got there is even more impressive. It’s like a switch went off and and it was like every ball thrown in his direction was his. He made some of the most aggressive, contested catches routinely week in and week out from game #8 non. The chemistry that QB Ryan Fitzpatrick and Parker developed was really something. Fitzpatrick had so much confidence in Parker that he was just throwing passes in Parker’s direction no matter how tight he was covered because he felt Parker had the best chance to come up with the ball and he was usually rewarded for that.

Parker wasn’t the only one who impressed. Preston Williams and Isaiah Ford both made great strides. Williams was a regular contributor week in week out until he was injured week 8. Williams used his size and frame to make catches but sometimes struggled with the easy ones, but you can see there’s talent there. Isaiah Ford saw limited work early on but really started impressing from week #13 on. It’s nice to have a such a young WR corps, with talented vets like Parker, Hurns and Wilson to keep these guys in line. Like I said earlier, I think the WR’s are our best and most solid unit, and although this is a very strong WR draft class, I don’t expect us to be very active in the draft for WR’s. If anything, finding a strong KR/PR who could either be a RB or WR will be a likely target.

GO DOLPHINS!!

#staythecourse!

Best wishes to everyone during this difficult and scary period in our lives. I hope the best for all of you both in health and wealth. I hope those of you that still remain employed continue to do so and hope that those who have lost their jobs (even temporarily) hang on strong until they are able to once again join the workforce. I hope you are all doing what you can to stay safe and help your neighbors and friends.

I don’t think they want to wait for Lawrence, just that they will try to get him if they are not happy with this year’s pick.

  5. ocalarob says:

the thing about not drafting Tua, if someone makes a move up to get him that will leave Miami with a choice of one of the big three defensive guys in the draft.
    young, okuda or simmons.

  8. steveccnv says:

Figured out why the Fins have put the word out there, that they’re willing to trade lots of picks to move up for Tua. By doing that other teams don’t have the picks to compete, so they’ll give up.

If we feel other teams are still interested, all we have to do is talk with Detroit while they’re on the clock, but don’t actually make the deal, and when time gets close they’ll have to just put their pick in.

    • Mike E. says:

Posturing means nothing Steve. If you really believe that a team that wants Tua is not going to pick up the phone and inquire come draft day you’re crazy.

      • steveccnv says:

I didn’t say that. Also it may make teams like the Chargers go after Cam or Winston.

If you think about it, if we really want to trade up how are the Chargers going to compete? By putting it in their head we’re going to do what it takes, they may go to plan B.

  9. steveccnv says:

Wyoming, thanks for posting the tweets, when I get behind I generally just scan thru for them, to get the latest news.

When I comment on them, I’m usually commenting on the tweet, not to you for posting them.

  10. bailbondmike says:

I think you could pass on a QB this year. Next years class could be huge depending on who comes out.

    Trevor Lawrence, Clem
    Justin Fields, OSU
    Kyle Trask, UF
    Sam Ehlinger, Texas
K.J. Costello, treansfer to Miss St to run air raid offense
    Brock Purdy, ISU
    Mac Jones, Alabama
    Tanner Morgan, Minn
    Ian Book, ND
    Shane Buechele, SMU
    Brady White, Memphis
    Holton Ahlers, ECU
    Kellen Mond, Texas A&M

    and I probably missed some.

    • bailbondmike says:

      Think about this draft.

    • D says:

Only reason im thinking second or third tier is if i think Rosen is the guy for us. We need to take a QB and not put it off on a what if or a maybe next year. We need to start this process this year. If they have a guy they believe in, they should get him and we shouldnt be pissing and moaning about picks or second guessing their decisions. I for one am excited to see what they do, i dont want them to trade away picks either but if they do then that means it was worth it.

That’s sad. Saw the Trotters when was real young. Filled up our local high school’s gymnasium. Sorta thinking had a better seat for it than at Madison Square Garden.

      That’s sad. RIP Curly!

    • TryPod says:

I loved Curly Neal! Watched the Globetrotters TV show as a kid:
I’m Meadowlark Lemon and you gotta know-Curly’s also in the show- and Geese-and Tex- and Bobby Joe- I’m Marcus Hayes to show you how- and I’m Nate.. I don’t remember the rest, but that was part of the opening. RIP.

    • bookman11 says:

      I like that!

    • Tim Knight says:

Yeah me too. I’ve seen Van Noy lineup at OLB, ILB, play the run, blitz/stunt and drop into coverage. He knows the multiple defense and how it works. Besides his own play, he should help the young and new guys adapt to it.

  16. Randy says:

That’s a shame. Curly was my favorite. Great ball handler. Rest In Peace.

    • D says:

I have known a better ball handler, i mean to each their own if he was your best bar handler, there is nothing wrong with that,

  18. Tim Knight says:

Can anyone explain why pork in this crisis bill had to include the arts; NPR, The Kennedy Center, museums etc.?

    • The Flying Pig says:

I didn’t see that in the bill I read

Stanger, in times of crisis, do politicians ever just focus on the situation without their agendas? I ask you because you were part of the game.

  23. olddolphan says:

HARD FOR ME TO FOCUS on football when so many things are going on both in my family and with my job. And I’m very sure many of you are in similar situations, perhaps far worse than mine. I hope Ken, Piggy, and the rest of our greater New York contingent are doing OK.

Tomorrow morning I’ll drive off to my job to grade and authenticate the still large number of coins shipped to us. It’s just amazing how many of the U.S. and foreign coins we see are either altered or downright counterfeit!! For about the last 15-20 years, the feds have basically dropped out of pursuing the rare coin counterfeiters. So private industry has had to pick up the slack to protect the integrity of our collectible coins. My frequent trips to coin conventions have been stopped temporarily by the Covid virus. And we’ve had to, for now, close our doors to the public, until the virus abates. But I still have my job, and I’m so thankful for that!

You mean instead of 100- 0?

Yes! And what was the House vote?

    • The Flying Pig says:

It hasn’t been voted on in then house yet
      That naught be tomorrow

      Congress doesn’t allow remote voting

The 4 non votes are the 3 Republicans I mentioned above who are quarantined
And the 4th I’m not sure about

But if I had to guess, I would say the 4th is Bernie Sanders who is still campaigning – I don’t know if that’s true. I’m just guessing

Basically the non votes were not in DC

      • The Flying Pig says:

        Actually I just found it
The 4th vote is South Dakota’s John Thune who explained he want feeling well and was advised by his doctor not to go (probably fears of the virus)

    • Tim Knight says:

Not that it would have mattered, but in this date and time a government vote can’t be done remotely while business does this all the time?

Are we fuckin stupid? Voting stations have issues with hanging chads and booth malfunctions but a live video saying yay or nay, an email, phone call and/or a text isn’t good enough? We need 6 points of ID to get a license but there is no way to know that someone voted legit in 2020 through digital technology?

      • The Flying Pig says:

It’s actually a big controversy that they don’t allow it

There’s no reason congress can’t adjust like the rest of us
Vote by Skype seems reliable to me
I say the same thing about the draft

We don’t know how long we have to do this
        People better adjust

In congress’ case, it’s just never been an issue until now
But, there’s reason to beleive that one senator got the other senators sick

I’m not sure if you heard by Rand Paul tested positive
And while he was waiting for results, used the senate gym and pool

        He never experienced symptoms
And he only was tested bc he was traveling
But the test cam back positive

None of them should be in the same building when it comes down to it

What if 20 of them are sick next month

  25. Tim Knight says:

NFL FA just proved that remote signings could happen. Millions of dollars committed and signed. But the government can’t be that adaptable. Maybe that’s a good sign. 😉

Here are some great spots worth checking out

  27. Mike E. says:

I responded to a tweet about Dolphins Digest today and Richmond Webb liked it. I saw that Richmond Webb liked it and said that can’t be the real Richmond Webb, but sure enough it was. I think Sonny has mentioned that he’s friends with him on FB. Really nice that he’s cool like that.

    • D says:

He followed me on twitter when i responded to one of his tweets and we have had some back and forth comments on a few different things. Blew me away too, he is my second favorite dolphin all time behind Dan, and i watched him play and tried to learn from what i saw him doing in games because at the time i played LT.

      • D says:

Like i said a little while back its very surreal talking online with one of your sports idols.

      • Mike E. says:

It’s nice that he honors the fans. We loved these guys, looked up to them even though I’m older than they are. It’s like giving back. I would love to have more interactions with him. heck, I had no idea he was even on twitter.

    • D says:

I disagree i think Thomas has elite level skills, he has some flaws but the places he really excels is footwork and thats usually a trait thats more natural and not really easy to improve on. He also corrects well. I saw some things people were pointing out where he “failed” but those plays he kept his guy away from the QB, he initially bit on an inside move and was behind catching up to the guy, but he corrected with full extension and a shove at the end that pushed the guy out of his pass rush path. I mean everything doesn’t go perfect allt he time and i think those plays actually showed great traits, as in his ability to adjust and still get the job done.

      • D says:

I think Josh Jones is my 2nd favorite followed by Wills and then Wirfs. Jones is a little raw but his footwaork is really good and he i think has a ton of potential when coached up right.

      • wyoming85 says:

I just want a competent OL again!
I hope we get one of the 4!

  31. wyoming85 says:

    • steveccnv says:

I agree with this, and a reason why I wouldn’t mind trading some picks for 2021. The top guys outside of Tua are checked probably good enough.

Because Tua can’t be checked further we may be able to get him at 5.

  32. bailbondmike says:

Just after the Ravens announced they won’t be signing Michael Brockers, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reports that the DT will remain with the Los Angeles Rams.

  33. bailbondmike says:

If the NFL were to lift bans on free agents before the draft where they can start visiting teams again, it could shake up the top of the draft. I’m talking the possibility of Cam Newton to Bengals. I don’t think any team touches him without their own doctors evaluating him.

  34. Rockphin says:

I hope we don’t draft Tua. Pat white 2.0.

  35. ocalarob says:

With all of the colleges shutdown and students continuing their education online. With colleges set to be hit hard with a 50% loss of revenue. College sports may be a thing of the past

    • Mike E. says:

They make so much money with the sports I can’t imagine how they could survive w/o it

      • steveccnv says:

Survive and thrive are 2 different things. What colleges need to worry about is all the people that realize they don’t need to pay $250K for a degree, and can do it online cheaper.

        The racket has been exposed.

    • The Flying Pig says:

      It’s temporary ORob

It might affect the 2020 season but I doubt anything becomes a thing of the last

  36. ocalarob says:

Since this is a ol heavy draft they may continue to build the defense with simmons or the DT at 5

  37. stangerx says:

Talk about the Phish that got away — “Brees announced on his Instagram account that he and Brittany will be committing a whopping $5 million for coronavirus hunger relief in the entire state of Louisiana.” That’s a huge chunk of his salary.

    • Mike E. says:

That’s great. Nice to see these athletes give back. I wish all these Hollywood assholes who make more money than anyone should would just shut up and give money to help and this crisis could be resolved quicker and better.

    • bookman11 says:

I know we passed on Brees in favor of Culpepper, but the fact we did not end up with him bothers me less, I guess, than it does most. I feel like, even if we landed Brees, we might have completely ruined his time here by not having proper coaching, running the wrong system, not putting the correct people around him. I mean, who knows really what would have happened?

      • stangerx says:

Brees could get it done no matter what. Think he’s proved that. Even then, just had that look about him

      • bookman11 says:

Stanger, I think we would have been to Drew Brees what George was to Elaine’s Mimbo…he would have crashed and been disfigured..LOL

      • stangerx says:

LOL — and George did work for the Yankees…. could have gotten a job with the Phins. We know how he helped Danny Tartabull’s swing out.

      • bookman11 says:

        The Dolphins in cotton uniforms??

      • stangerx says:

The cotton would breath better during the heat games.

  38. ocalarob says:

Im thankful to bill obrien. What a moron. Trading away hopkins for nothing? Giving us 2 #1s and a 2. For tunsil and the stupid wr we had

  39. wyoming85 says:

  40. Rockphin says:

Bookman, that is a good point. Would Saban still have left if we had Brees instead of Culpepper? Would Cam Cameron….never mind…Would they have brought in the Bigmouth Tuna and Ireland / Sparano?

iIt’s one of those questions that have too many moving parts.

If Miami had drafted Tom Brady at pick #167 in 2000 instead of DT Ernest Grant would he have been THE Tom Brady? Sitting behind Jay Freakin Fiedler? with Dave Freaking Wannstedt as HC??

II doubt it. Brady most likely would have been out of the league in a year or so

    • bookman11 says:

      Rock,
You get exactly what I am saying. Somehow I get the feeling we would have ruined poor Drew’s career..LOL

LMAO at the Cam Cameron comment

  41. Rockphin says:

  42. Rockphin says:

IF Williams and Parker can both stay healthy we will have two dominant WR on the outside!

    • stangerx says:

And cheap ones. Means more money to spend somewhere else.

      • Rockphin says:

only cheap for another year or so. If you think Parker’s 9-11 Million per year through 2022 is cheap. Williams is a FA after 2021 so if he continues on the trend he was on before he got injured he will be looking for a big payday too.

Those or worries for a few years down the road though. THIS season is what they need to focus on !

        GO DOLPHINS

      • stangerx says:

Hard to look more than a couple years ahead in today’s NFL. And yeah that is a cheap WR tandem if they work out of course.

      • D says:

If they dont, go draft a new one. WR’s are the second easiest, and in my opinion possibly the easiest position player to replace.

  43. Mike E. says:

Allen Hurns is going to be playing opposite Parker until Williams proves he’s ready to take over.

  44. Rockphin says:

D, I don’t necessarily agree with you on that. Often it takes WR 2-3 years to really come into their own in the NFL. Some of the TOP ones come out gang busters, but it’s not like RB where they hit the ground running (LOL) the first year.

  45. Randy says:

I like Parker and Williams. If they can both come in and continue the path we began to see last year, I think we have two guys who can be really solid pros and maybe even better. Parker has to continue to show he can stay healthy because I think he can produce. Parker can do it. He just has to be dependable. Williams played like a stud. He went out and beat people, and it was nice to see. It’s what Parker should be doing. If Williams can continue the physical play, catch what’s thrown to him and not just the big throws and take another step as a young player, he will be really solid. I’m hoping either one starts dictating coverages and things start opening up for other guys like our TEs/RBs. Wilson, if he could stay on the field, could really benefit from those guys drawing coverage. It would be nice to actually threaten all three areas of the field again.
    ***
And yes….you need time to do that….so the OL has to be better. I could hear the “yeah, but…”s. Lol

    • Rockphin says:

who needs an O-line? We have the beard. (Eye roll) Fitz did do a great job after he was re-inserted last year of keeping plays alive moving around though.

  46. Rockphin says:

    Mike, you don’t know that.

Williams had more yards in 8 games last year than Hurns had in 14 games. They had the exact same amount of catches – 32 (Hurns played in 6 more games)

The Unicorn had 1 more TD than Hurns in six less games.

It comes down to how well Williams comes back from his torn ACL and what they each show this off-season.

    • Mike E. says:

I know that at the moment Hurns is the healthier guy. I think Preston Williams will probably take that spot from Hurns at some point if he deserves it, but I think Hurns is a good receiver in his own right.

  47. Randy says:

I’m not comparing the two, but watching Williams reminded me of watching Michael Irvin. That kid is a competitor. Now, can he start making the easy catch ALL the time and keep showing a penchant to make big plays? He won’t be a surprise or unknown to teams anymore. Can he adapt and adjust to the possibility that he starts seeing more coverages focused on stopping him? Because he’s a competitor, I would hope he steps up and responds to it.

    ——————————————–
Rare circumstance there man, the majority of the ones that excel and become dominant do it first or second year. I know my opinion isnt the only one, thats why i broke it off as my feeling, and not the rest of the NFL because so far people in the NFL are still paying for them (see Amari Cooper’s contract) but i think its much better to keep recycling guys even if it does take a 1-2 year process to get them there. I mean you have 5-6 spots, there isnt a way to stagger that to have 2-3 good ones at any time? You wanna pay 100mil to a guy and hurt your chances are resigning your LT/DE/QB/CB’s WR to me is not a position to worry with having some huge contract guy out there. So if the time comes and the contract demands are crazy, move along.

    • Rockphin says:

Oh, I agree with most of your comment. Just not necessarily that they are the second easiest position to fill right away. I don’t like paying 100Mil contracts to ANY player. Especially if they are only 1 of 2-3,4 that are on the field at the same time.

One hears it all the time. It takes a while for them to adjust to the NFL. (at least when Parker was busting his first season that’s what everyone was saying…. 😉

  49. Rockphin says:

Mike, who knows? Williams might just disappear this year or never get back from the ACL. (See Tankersly who many of us though would be the solution across from X)

I was just saying Williams was really coming on when he got hurt. (Parker’s position on the roster was in danger)

Now we have ANOTHER fucking new offensive system being installed this season. Hurns may have the advantage of experience picking it up or knowing it from a past stop in his career.

Not to be all over the board, but DAMN I hope we can finally get a system in place that our players can grow in instead of changing them every 2-3 years!!!

    • Mike E. says:

I hear ya man. I really liked Preston Williams too, it’s a beautiful thing to hit on an UDFA. I just think a lot of people here discount Hurns like he’s not even on the roster. He was a really dangerous receiver when he had Allen Robinson opposite him, and if DeVante comes back and plays like he did in ’19, Hurns can take advantage of that like he did in JAX

      • Rockphin says:

He only had one really good year (2015) other than that he has just been a Jag. (HA! play on words) 469 yards per year average without ’15.

  50. ocalarob says:

I just wonder with all these nfl massive contracts. At the same time the economy is in free fall. How will that affect the nfl financially? Some of These TV sponsors wil will have been hit hard.

My county is now on lock down. Before they closed all but the “essential” places down. Now they are the only places you are allowed to go under threat of law. But yeah am sure a lot of you guys are facing the same.

  52. bailbondmike says:

We have only 20 test positive in our county so far. That is 5 times as many as we had 10 days ago. Still not bad at all. Started going up after spring breakers showed up. They closed the beaches last weekend. Testing has been minimal in my county though. They have to take my temp every time I go to the jail before they let me in to post a bond.

Just worked out, then sat down and watched Bob Ross for a while and he put me right to sleep. I need Bob to paint at night so he can do that for me when I’m trying to fall asleep at night.

  54. stangerx says:

“I feel like you guys are getting a sense of how he is as a person and as a coach, and you probably kind of wish you could play for him if you played football. Just the type of attitude he has, the grit he has, the competitiveness he has. I mean, who doesn’t want to play for a coach like that?

He’s ready to go all the time, and he brings that same energy each and every day. That’s what you want as a coach, and as a player, that’s who I want to play for.”

    — Kyle Van Noy on Flores

  55. D says:

When i look at Herbert in the videos i just dont see a big upgrade over Rosen, in fact i see a guy that really very similar to Rosen. It might just be a different in personality that the different because Rosen seems almost dead inside when i see him talking about playing football. Herbert seems to carry himself different than that but the overall QB skills dont seem to be a strong improvement over Herbert.

  56. Krishna says:

You should be listening to your President. His first statement was a lie. Good Luck!

  57. bailbondmike says:

D (or anyone), if you are not sold on Rosen and don’t want to take a chance at #5 on Tua or any of the rest in the 1st round, would you trade Rosen to the Colts straight up for Jacoby Brissett since the Colts signed Rivers. Resign/restructure him for a couple years. He has one year left on his current contract and would cost 12.5 mil (I think) cause Indy all ready had to pay his roster bonus. Flores knows him from NE. I feel he has talent close to Fitz. Just throwing it out there.

  58. Krishna says:

Bing, bang, bong….I defy anyone who would follow a coach or military leader that sounded like him. What a moron!

  59. Krishna says:

There’s $13B being lost in the meals and entertainment industry. I’M SURE NO ONE goes to bars on this blog. I hope they are being take of.

  60. Krishna says:

Seriously, Wyoming. Are you listening to Trump or are you baiting?

  61. Krishna says:

    So, both.

  62. wyoming85 says:

If we didn’t have social distancing I’d get you a crying towel

  63. Krishna says:

Whyo…damn lie. He killed the pandemic agency established by Obama. Then, crapped on testing from beginning. Woeful failure.

  64. Krishna says:

I don’t need a towel. I’d give you a big hug. Not my concern.

  65. wyoming85 says:

The difference between us is I don’t expect the government to do anything for me!

If he wiped everyone’s ass! Somebody would complain about it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  66. Krishna says:

Well, I have to give you that. I don’t expect anything from anyone or any government. Not my way.

    I just hate liars!

  67. Krishna says:

  70. Krishna says:

I pretty much do hate all politicians. It’s shameful what they do and salads they toss.

  71. New Age says:

Ok, me too. Instead of voting in the same old cons like Hillary and Biden I wanted to go different. Trump sounds terrible but he promotes the stuff I want. If we had a 3-4 party system, I’d have more options than #1 or #2. The reality is that the DNP and RNP created Trump. All they had to do was do the things they are voted in to do. Bring forth presidential candidates that promote the things I want. Things other people obviously wanted. They chose Door #2. So I chose Door #1. Populism only gains traction when your elite ruling class doesn’t give voters what they want. So we got Trump and communist Bernie in 2016 and 2020. Sounds like they didn’t learn the lesson.

Stanger, we have a homeless guy who lives in a shed behind our building. He empties our trash and cleans parking lot. Boss pays him weekly. He doesn’t drink or do drugs. He walks to the Waterfront Mission 2 blocks away every evening and takes a shower. We all give him food, clothes, toothpaste, soap, etc.

Anyway, he hangs out in our back TV room during the day. We only use 2 out of 6 desks to work with customers now. When the customer leaves, our homeless guy comes out, puts on his gloves and wipes down the whole desk and chairs. Boss gave him a raise to do that. LOL

  73. Krishna says:

BBM…..AWESOME! God forbid we think about others.

Krishna – To answer you question about taking care of the service industry, yes. We are ordering out at least 3 times a week and always use door dash so they get some income too. 40 percent tips.

We have approximately 300 employees. none them are losing, or will lose, an hour of pay. Regardless of whether they are quarantined or have to take care of family or the airports shut down. If their normal schedule is 40/week, they get paid for 40/week.

    • Krishna says:

pp…you and your company are awesome. I promise you, you are not the norm.

Our employees, not nearly your numbers, are getting paid, too.
