WR Corps suffer legitimate depth issues with 2 COVID-19 opt outs

Many of you here didn’t really value the services of one Allen Hurns, and maybe I’m on the side of overrating him, but Hurns was on target to be the starter opposite DeVante Parker at least into training camp. If Preston Williams proved he was healthy and battle ready then it’s possible Hurns slipped down the depth chart as he was replaced by the younger, more explosive Williams. IN any case, Hurns was a veteran receiver with AFC experience and one that thrived playing opposite a very talented receiver in Allen Robinson in Jacksonville. Never as much of a big play threat as Robinson, Hurns was a steady, reliable , professional possession receiver. Albert Wilson looked like he was almost all the way back last season, especially towards the end of the season. The last 3 games he caught 17 passes which is nearly half of his season’s production of 41 receptions. He had the lowest YPC average of his career at 8.1 and only one TD but the hip injury that cut his 2019 season short really took its toll on the receiver as he finally worked his way back. I do recall seeing a couple of plays at the end of the year where his explosiveness resembled the player of 2019 where he was turning nothing into something big routinely.

Before the opt outs, I felt like we had a very strong WR room with serious depth and a nice mix of youth and veterans. Parker is 27, Wilson 28 and Allen Hurns 28, along with young up and comers like Preston Williams (23), Gary Jennings (23), Isaiah Ford (24), Malcolm Perry (23) and Jakeem Grant who is now 27. If Preston Williams is ready he takes Hurns spot on the outside opposite Parker. Which receiver or receivers get to thrive in the slot? Jakeem Grant will be in the running as will Gary Jennings and 7th RD draftee Malcolm Perry. Grant has the speed and explosiveness Wilson had but not the size, Grant (5’6 171) is about 25 lbs lighter and doesn’t have the run power to break tackles like Wilson did. Gary Jennings is a little less speedy and explosive but has good size at 6’1 216. Jennings ran a 4.42 at the combine and put up 20 reps so he has some upper body strength. Malcolm Perry is closest size wise and elusiveness to Wilson but doesn’t have the top speed that Wilson had. Perry ran 4.63 40 at the combine. If you watch Perry play though, he always looks fast enough and is a very slippery runner. The Dolphins signed Colts WR Chester Rogers to a 1YR deal which deepens the depth a little. Rogers caught 53 passes in 2018, just 16 last year playing behind WR Zach Pascal.

The biggest concern I have about our WR’s, or really any unit on our team is the depth. If we’ve learned anything by watching MLB, NBA or NHL in 2020 in the year of COVID-19 is that players drop like flies. One second they’re on the team and the next they’re on COVID-19 protocol. Add in the usual NFL injuries, especially considering this year with a huge lack of practices and no preseason games and you will likely see how important good depth will be. I’d even question whether the league will be able to play a full season. We’re going to have to count on a bunch of our deeper depth players this season and I hope we get them all ready for action. When Chan Gailey was with the Jets in 2015-2016, he utilized Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker mostly, with a decent amount of passing to the RB’s Chris Ivory and Bilal Powell. In 2016 Decker was gone after 3 games and replaced by Quincy Enunwa and the offense didn’t really feature a slot WR much. Robby Anderson provided the deep threat on the outside and again, the RB’s, now Matt Forte and Bilal Powell caught a bunch of passes. Jordan Howard isn’t much of a pass catcher but Matt Breida is a good receiver out of the backfield who was stifled by playing time in a 3 headed attack in SF with Raheem Mostert and Tevin Coleman and also CJ Beathard. Malcolm Perry may also get some use out of the backfield and Kalen Ballage was thought to be a good receiver although he didn’t get to show any of those skills here in MIA. Patrick Laird and Kenyan Drake caught the most passes at RB. In any case, one thing we’ll probably have to get used to in 2020 is NEXT MAN UP . . .

MJ on the Dolphins? I bet the Dolphins would have at least one NBA title if MJ was on the team.

Saw that. No surprise. They are perfect together. Neither have ever met a position they weren’t willing to pander to.

One is almost dead physically and the other is almost dead politically.

      • stangerx says:

Take it you guys aren’t a fan of the pick. Who were you rooting for? I was hoping for Susan Rice.

      • pheloniusphish says:

I didn’t really care one way or the other. Rice or Abrams were both too polarizing and radical for the more mainstream Dems, probably would have kept more people home. Harris was his safest bet, but she’s going to have to answer a lot of questions about years as a draconian prosecutor. Might have been his safest pick, but she won’t excite many.

      • stangerx says:

Thought Rice smart and presentable. But you bring up Abrams, who would have been my first choice even if didn’t make the short list. She’s got some charisma magic in her.

    • The Flying Pig says:

      I love the choice

But she was my favorite to begin with

I don’t think the choice though is going to have a huge impact on the race at the end of the day, but if you can get people to focus on policy while Trump slings mud – that’s a good place to be

People are going to attack her for her action as a prosecutor, and it’s on her to answer that and explain it – whether or not you like her answers it hard for Trump to attack an aggressive prosecutor at of one side of his mouth while claiming to be the law and order President out of the other.

  12. Mike E. says:

Fuck Ronnie Brown was a little harsh. I never really liked him although I know a lot of you did. He was a RB, so no reason to bring him, almost makes as little sense as MJ.

    • CavalierKong says:

I always enjoyed watching him play. That grin was infectious, you could just see his love of the game. And he was an integral part of the best Dolphins season in the last 15 years and the best asswhooping we’ve ever put on Belicheat. But I guess we all have our favorites and least-liked. 🙂

    • Rockphin says:

he was a waste of the 2nd overall pick when he was a platooned RB in college with Cadillac Williams and there were better players on the board. Aaron Rogers being one of them.

I liked him as a person and a player but thought his value was more like a 3rd round pick.

      • CavalierKong says:

Yeah, definitely not worthy of the #2 overall. A lot of teams missed on Rodgers. The top 10 of that draft was a real snooze. We could have had DeMarcus Ware too.

I watched “the boys” and I loved it

My brother is trying to sell me on umbrella academy now, so I might check that out

    • Mike E. says:

I also loved “The Boys”. I haven’t yet watched Umbrella Academy, that’s up next. We’re watching an older show now from Sundance on Netflix called “Rectify”. It’s 4 seasons, pretty interesting, just want to see how it ends.

      • The Flying Pig says:

I actually thought it was really really good

I was surprised bc I’m a harsh critic

I actually watched episode 8 first on accident
And I just thought they were taking the approach that they expected the audience to infer the backstory….lol

Then I realized I messed up

But it didn’t ruin it for me

    • CavalierKong says:

Hell yeah! Season 2 drops Sept-4.

The Umbrella Academy is ok IMO. It’s got its moments and at times I really like it, but it is painfully obvious in its plot, and its characters are pretty childish in their actions. I find myself rolling my eyes sometimes. Still I think it’s a fun watch.

    • CavalierKong says:

      Same feel as season 1.

  21. The Flying Pig says:

A draft doesn’t give you Matt Roth

Matt Roth gives you the only relevant portion when he allows his name to be called

  22. CavalierKong says:

5th OT, Lightning have 85 shots. Most shots by a team in a single game.

As of now, it’s the 5th longest NHL game ever.

  23. Mike E. says:

It’s been almost a year and I still find myself saying “Yeh” the way Billy Butcher says. I freaking love the way he says that!

    • CavalierKong says:

Butcher says to the priest (about God) – “He’s got a hard-on for mass murder and giving kids cancer, and his big old answer to the existential clusterfuck that is humanity, is to nail his own bleeding son to a plank. That is a c^nt move. Even you got to agree with me there.”

LOL, that had me weak I was laughing so hard. Such a great show.

For any of you that like The Boys, if you don’t know the story on Black Noir from the comics, it’s a flippin great storyline. If it matters to you, be careful of spoilers, it’s that good.

  24. Tim Knight says:

I’ll say this, this is going to be an ugly election. Worse than Trump/Hillary. Really sad. 😦

      • The Flying Pig says:

        Hughie is great

The neurotic geek archetype is a little overplayed in movies these days for my taste – but I never feel like he’s a cliche.

  26. The Flying Pig says:

    Btw

    Without googling for help
Do you know what the actor (Karl Urban) who plays Billy Butcher also was in?

  27. The Flying Pig says:

Lord of the Rings is the one I was thinking of that took me by surprise

The first minute I saw him, I remembered him as scourge bc Ragnorak is my favorite mcu movie

There’s another one (a series) that might surprise you and another smaller movie he did which is kind of fun and violent and weird

    • CavalierKong says:

The above list taps me out on my off the cuff Karl Urban knowledge, lol. So I’m not sure what the series and movie you are referencing are.

      • CavalierKong says:

Oh, he was Dr Mccoy in the new Star Trek. I remember that because it’s against type for him.

  28. olddolphan says:

JUST FINISHED WATCHING one of the most memorable hockey games of all time!! And to think that I missed the first two periods because of a doctor’s appointment!! Well, gotta walk the dog and get my beauty rest. Hope all of you have a great tomorrow.

  29. The Flying Pig says:

Yeah add McCoy in the Star Trek

I didn’t recently realize that until I googled him while watching the series

I’ve always been a McCoy fan

This is the other smaller movie I’m thinking of

He’s got quite the sci-fi fantasy resume actually

  30. Mike E. says:

My Facebook feed ranges from “You think Biden is creepy, how about what Trump said about Ivanka, how she’s attractive, voluptuous, I would have dated her” and “Trump thought the Great Pandemic of 1921 was after WWII” to “Joe Biden will find out who he picked as VP tonight on the news” and “Kamala Harris is sleeping her way to the top”. It’s fucking ugly, and it’s just starting. The sad think is as much I think Trump is an asshole and we don’t need another 4 years of his shit, I cringe at the thought of even possibly voting for either of the cretins the Dems have offered us, Biden for a month or so until they deem unfit to serve and then Kamala Harris. I don’t know if I can pull that lever man . . .

  31. Mike E. says:

Urban was great in Almost Human, I really liked that show, was sorry they ditched it.

  33. Tim Knight says:

I’m a supporter of the USA and our melting pot. We’re dealing with a volatile time where people have a difficult time communicating with each other. 😦

    • Mike E. says:

I think this is a very insightful and accurate statement from George Carlin many years ago after his wife died. It truly applies well right now . . .

The paradox of our time in history is that we have taller buildings but shorter tempers, wider freeways, but narrower viewpoints. We spend more, but have less, we buy more, but enjoy less. We have bigger houses and smaller families, more conveniences, but less time. We have more degrees but less sense, more knowledge, but less judgment, more experts, yet more problems, more medicine, but less wellness.

We drink too much, smoke too much, spend too recklessly, laugh too little, drive too fast, get too angry, stay up too late, get up too tired, read too little, watch TV too much, and pray too seldom. We have multiplied our possessions, but reduced our values. We talk too much, love too seldom, and hate too often.

We’ve learned how to make a living, but not a life. We’ve added years to life not life to years. We’ve been all the way to the moon and back, but have trouble crossing the street to meet a new neighbour. We conquered outer space but not inner space.

We’ve done larger things, but not better things. We’ve cleaned up the air, but polluted the soul. We’ve conquered the atom, but not our prejudice. We write more, but learn less. We plan more, but accomplish less. We’ve learned to rush, but not to wait. We build more computers to hold more information, to produce more copies than ever, but we communicate less and less.

These are the times of fast foods and slow digestion, big men and small character, steep profits and shallow relationships. These are the days of two incomes but more divorce, fancier houses, but broken homes. These are days of quick trips, disposable diapers, throwaway morality, one night stands, overweight bodies, and pills that do everything from cheer, to quiet, to kill. It is a time when there is much in the showroom window and nothing in the stockroom. A time when technology can bring this letter to you, and a time when you can choose either to share this insight, or to just hit delete.

Remember, spend some time with your loved ones, because they are not going to be around forever. Remember, say a kind word to someone who looks up to you in awe, because that little person soon will grow up and leave your side.

Remember, to give a warm hug to the one next to you, because that is the only treasure you can give with your heart and it doesn’t cost a cent.

Remember, to say, “I love you” to your partner and your loved ones, but most of all mean it. A kiss and an embrace will mend hurt when it comes from deep inside of you. Remember to hold hands and cherish the moment for someday that person will not be there again. Give time to love, give time to speak, and give time to share the precious thoughts in your mind.

Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.

Its always your business who to support and not support and I respect people for making their own informed decisions and going with what they feel is right for them

But I’m doing my part if I’m clear that you don’t have to be a radical extremist to support what they stand for

      • Mike E. says:

        That’s fair

      • pheloniusphish says:

That is the crux of the matter…What do they stand for? Equal treatment or acceptance of aberrant behavior? Personal responsibility or victimhood? Marxism or Americanism? Integration or segregation? Respect for the rule of law or criminal behavior? Ignorance or discourse? Civility or barbarism? Race war or an absence of race?

BLM is no better than the KKK.

      • ocalarob says:

        DING….DING….DING!
        nice post phelon

      • The Flying Pig says:

I think they stand for being more influential in making an impact on the discriminate treatment of minorities by the police in the US than any other organization has Ever been

Do you remember any other organization having this impact on these issues? I don’t

You can try to associate them with every negative thing you can think of, but none of it usurps what they have accomplished in mobilizing people to stand up for something that’s very important to me

And I’m not ashamed or embarrassed about that bc I think it’s a priority for us to stop to live up to our standards that “all men are created equal”

Wake me up when the KKK starts telling the police they cant kill unarmed minorities – maybe I will start praising them too….lol

      • steveccnv says:

The problem with BLM is it’s just a slogan, that doesn’t have any value. If black lives matter to them, why are they only interested in the 7 unarmed ones killed by the cops each year? They’re using social justice to push through their anarchy. They’ve duped Americans into thinking they’re fighting for social injustice of blacks.

Listen to what they say, write and have put on their website and you’ll see who they really are and what they stand for.

How any American that has a good life can back an anarchist group, that burns, loots, riots and destroys our country is beyond me, but to each is own, so if you feel like this group is doing some good by all means support away, I’ll just never understand.

      • The Flying Pig says:

I don’t think an organziation is required to take on every social injustice in order to fight one particular injustice

In fact I think that would be very ineffective

If I have any criticism of BLM. It’s that they leave themselves open to a lot of criticism unrelated to the disparities in the criminal justice system concerning minorities by dabbling in other issues – which leaves them open to the kind of criticism this thread is directing towards them. I would rather they be focused on one particular injustice

But when it’s said and done their message is going to be whatever the masses interpret their message to be

I don’t have to go to their website or hear some one else describe them to know what their about

Bc I’ve been around them In person (albeit I admit not during COVID19 social distancing times)

I didn’t see anarchy advocacy, Marxism, victimhood or the embrace of criminal behavior – and I’m not the kind of person who won’t bark back when I see behavior I don’t agree with

I’m not going to change the point of view of you guys on your perception of them – I’m actually not going to try bc it’s your right to feel and think and say the things you do

But I do think it’s impeotant for you guys to understand, there are normal people who embrace this organizations ability to get effective legislation at least spoken about

Most of my adult life, going back to my law school days, the Discriminatory disparities People are paying attention to now have been discussed. These things didn’t start this week or during the Trump presidency – they are long term problems that I’ve always wanted to see addressed through our legal system

And no one was really effective until now

So I am inclined to support the group that is effective and appears to be poised to be effective in changing these disparities going forward, rather than people denying that those disparities exist or that every other negative thing about the organization takes precedent over the positive things they might achieve

It’s not that I think any of you should change your personal views

But I don’t think you should be naive about the support that organization receives from many different people with many different points of view

And I do my .02 in making that by stating my opinion

As Biden would say when he looses track of thought, “Come on, Man!”. I see this election as ugly but not as bad as 2016.

    • steveccnv says:

We’ll see, but the reason 2016 wasn’t worse is, because she thought she was going to win easy, you may see no holds barred this time, and why I don’t want mail in voting for everyone.

    • The Flying Pig says:

The fbi wasn’t used to spy on the trump campaign

Fisa warrants issued to wiretap carter page because of Pages dubious links to Russia oligarchs. Page openly admitted to being an advisor to the kremlin in 2013. It’s not exactly a secret

      https://time.com/5132126/carter-page-russia-2013-letter/

Being an advisor the the kremlin might be legal. It’s doesn’t exactly assume impropriety, and people shouldn’t assume that just bc some one is an advisor – but it’s certainly worthy of a FISA wiretap by the fbi

Those warrants and wiretapping issued in 2014, well before Trump was running for president or even employed carter page

If the Trump campaign just would have been a little more careful when they vetted him then they don’t hire him and none of this comes into play. The reality is the only time the trump campaign was spied on was when they interacted with Page bc Page was already the subject of a long standing investigation that started well before Trump was even the republican nominee – the Mueller Report actually makes that clear

Carter page was hired by the Trump in March 2016, well after The wiretapping of Page was well underway.

The fbi actually didn’t know clinton or Trump would be the candidate in 2016 when the wiretapping started in 2014

The description of what occurred is often misstated by the media on the right and the media on the left doesn’t do a very good job of explaining the details either, instead relying on generalizations

But if you do the research you will see who was actually wiretapped (not the campaign) and when it started

If the right is going to talk about victimization
Then you have to take a long look at the trump campaigns cries about being spied on when the reality is that the campaign hired a foreign advisor who was already being spied and openly admitted to being a kremlin advisor

      • ocalarob says:

You’re displaying inaccurate information to support your agenda, the steele dossier report written from June to December 2016 containing allegations of misconduct, conspiracy, and co-operation between Donald Trump’s presidential campaign and the government of Russia paid for by the DNC. This report and the illegal editing of an email was the basis for the FISA warrants done and paid for by the democratic party, whomever was investigating Paige earlier is irrelevant.
But anyway, let’s try to minimize your parties illegal actions.

      • stangerx says:

ORob — agree the steele dossier was a something but much of it has been confirmed. And those FISA warrants concerned piddling Trump folks. What’s the big issue? Certainly weren’t an election issue.

      • ocalarob says:

The huge issue is the corruption by the left! the ones people want to put in power, if you are dealing with a thief are you going to trust him with your money?

      • ocalarob says:

The left is backing the rioters to cause confusion and then blame it on trump! meanwhile people are dying, all for leftist political gain. is it a coincidence that all the rioting is happening in democratic states?
it’s a power grab and they don’t care who they hurt to get it.

    • stangerx says:

There at least wasn’t a lot about collusion in the media before the 2016 election. A whole lot about Access Hollywood and the server, but not that. The media explosion on that came later.

Im with Mike, i agree with the BLM movement and the issues surrounding where it started, but the group, even if they may have not started that way are solidly an anarchist hate group at this point and i cannot support them. They actually started as their own group but the New Black Panther movement which was starting up around the same time, merged with them, under the guise of the BLM group, and since then its a whole different group.

  45. D says:

What i understand is these players still cannot be drafted or join an NFL team until NFL 2021 draft. So no this isnt a shortcut for them to get to the NFL its just a shortcut as far as getting a jump on preparations for the NFL, where they dont have to risk injury and they get to train with people who can help them test and perform well for prospective teams.

    • wyoming85 says:

The NFL just needs a draft next week! 😉

    • stangerx says:

Wonder what the rule is that stops a senior from quitting school and naming himself a FA. That same guy could have declared for the last draft and either been taken or become a FA then. Maybe the CBA only allows NFL eligibility at certain times.

    —————————————————
The only acenue for a guy to do that is to go through the supplemental draft, but they still would have to have completed at least three years of eleigibility anyways. They also only have certain criteria that allows them to do the supp draft, though i dont remember off the top of my head which those are. Some might could qualify, but given the time for the supp draft is already passed and they didnt have one, there is no way to do that now i dont think.

    • D says:

In other words, no i dont think that would work under current rukles, they would have to make a special modification.

      • stangerx says:

I agree can’t be done…. was just curious as to what the rules are. We get punters coming in from Aussie Rules and if young enough they have full college eligibility.

  48. steveccnv says:

BLM may be the only ones to have effectively brought about some issues, but how can you condone the riots, looting, burning of buildings, destroying statues, take over cites, and destroying small businesses?

There’s ways to get a message across and this ain’t it. They know what they’re doing and it has nothing to do with social justice.

You choose not to go to their website, because you only want to see what you’re seeing now. Your fight matches their fight at one point doesn’t make what they’re really doing ok.

    • stangerx says:

Had BLM protests around where I live. The announced ones were pretty peaceful. They started at the park and had a bunch of speakers. What they said was pure first amendment. Then they marched a bit with a few stops and came back to the park. Then the “fun” began. But wasn’t the folks who organized the protests running it then. And they probably hated it. Probably knew it would happen. Same time guess figured the after was not on either them or BLM.

      • steveccnv says:

How can you say the organizers probably hated the aftermath, when their #1 goal is anarchy.

Didn’t you see how they reacted to the Chicago incident? Video posted here last night.

Even the far left mayor of Chicago is now condoning them. I guess it’s kind of what happens when you let someone take the shit to far.

      • stangerx says:

I say that cause I saw them, both some of them in person and interviewed on TV after. They were basically like “we organized our MLK event and afterwards stuff happened, and stuff broke out….not what we wanted.”

You seem darn sure….. how do you know what they had in mind was anarchy in Fort Lauderdale?

      • steveccnv says:

Because it’s why they’re there, it’s what they stand for, and they tell us that.

So if the kkk was there instead would you still have trouble figuring out their intent?

      • ocalarob says:

it’s laughable that you have to point out peaceful protest from rioters, how do you know when to separate the two? if your cause has both peaceful and violent actions shouldn’t it all be shut down? shouldn’t the peaceful want to put an end to the violence or should they continue to incite it?

    —————————————————–
Yeah i dont know the rules on people coming in from other countries, but maybe they came in with 3 years of college eligibility already spent at their colleges in their country, again, thats one of the special cases i have no clue about. Maybe there is something about transferring from another pro spot too, again, deep in the weeds of the rules and i know just the coming from college ones.

  51. CavalierKong says:

    Stang,

We’ve had dozens if not hundreds of events in Sacramento over the last year or two, and by far the majority of them are peaceful.

This is the other side of the coin to the ‘main stream media’ attacks that conservatives and trump supporters usually don’t acknowledge. The right wing media plays this stuff up to rile up their base and make it seem like the whole country is on fire when that just isn’t the truth.

Yes, there are some violent protests, and yes, there are factions which support and approve of these actions, but the vast majority of protests throughout the country are non-violent and non looting.

That being said, there is truth in the fact that BLM doesn’t strongly condemn the protests that are violent, which I firmly believe they should.

    • D says:

I think the point at which they fully lost me was after the George Floyd riots and everyone was talking how to move forward, there were police kneeling with the protesters, there were some that marched with the protesters, there we obvious signs of reaching out and BLM as a group made a statement. We dont want to hug the police, we dont want to kneel with the police, we dont want to talk with the police, we want to defund the police. Thats as blatant stating your opinion on something as you can get and this came from their leadership. So i dont think that all people who follow the BLM movement are bad, i think a lot of people who organize things in their name have good intentions, i think they are peaceful and i think they have good intention, but they are quietly being led by an organization that does not at the heart of them, want good thing, equality, or progress, they want destruction, anarchy and to spread hatred.

      • CavalierKong says:

See, I agreed with you right up until the last bit

“…led by an organization that does not at the heart of them, want good thing, equality, or progress, they want destruction, anarchy and to spread hatred.”

The last bit of that is just as much rhetoric as what they are accused of.

So because their organization thinks the system is corrupt, and they don’t trust anyone involved in that organization, that becomes wanting destruction, anarchy, etc.

I’ve been on the BLM website and read their mission statement, and the heart of that isn’t anarchy and destruction.

I agree that they should have welcomed police that wanted to stand with them, but because they don’t they aren’t instantly all that is evil in my eyes. I just don’t think it’s that black and white.

      • CavalierKong says:

To further my point about not standing with the police. I believe to them it was very much symbolic, not about the individuals in the police force that wanted to stand with them.

      • D says:

I guess i look at it like this Kong.

I can look up a profile about you and read everything you say you stand for and i can find out all about your self admitted beliefs, etc, or i can just look at your actions in person. I can look at how you act when you aren’t at your best and weigh it out against other time to not judge you on a bad day or due to a bad time in your life, but you have to show you have some thoughtfulness and caring outside of your own intentions, you have to show me you strive for good, you want to progress, and you push for it. They are on one side of this, and its not rhetoric with me.

With my own eyes, and watching their actions across it i have seen too much bad done by the organization. Again, the people involved, i have seen people who do match up like i stated above, but the group is corrupt and they are the definition of wolf in sheep’s clothing. They hide behind a issue thats just and right, but they operate with very devious intentions,. I think you should know me enough by now to know im not a blind follower of political or divisional rhetoric, i am a free thinker at the core of everything i do, and like i said, im willing to see something different if its there, but i havent seen it from them.

That web page might be the greatest thing on earth, but when the chips are down, they dont condemn the rioting, they dont want a peaceful resolution with the police, they want them gone, they paint anyone thats opposed to them as racist. These aren’t the actions of an ethical organization with good intentions, so BLM as an issue i support but the organization cant take their bullshit and pack it up.

    • CavalierKong says:

I still think Trump may win, but if so, it will be the same way as last time, he’ll lose the popular vote, and win the electoral. No way he wins a landslide.

      So definitely the under.

    • D says:

Im going with Under as well. At this point i am not sure he has a shot at winning. Too much turmoil, and 2020 has pretty much done him in.

    • stangerx says:

By a landslide? Something is really gonna happen for that. He’s way down in the polls…. but people vote for a reason.

  54. CavalierKong says:

    D,

I understand if that is the way you feel, it’s the way you feel.

I work for the government in my city and we have BLM protests outside our building pretty regularly. On my lunch break sometimes I go out and talk with different people that show up about a range of the issues they are protesting.

I’ve never seen any violence or disrespectful behavior from these particular groups. They’ve neve3r had to be removed. I often disagree with some of the things they say or want and when we’re done, the discussions always end on a positive note.

As I said above, we’ve had a couple years of protests. Since the Stephon Clark incident, our city has been embroiled in protests, and again, the vast majority are peaceful.

So I don’t take my view from the news on either side (not saying you do). My experience with the group and what they stand for, not to mention what we’ve seen in my city, has not been what you see in the news. But if you look up Sacramento and protests I bet you’ll find news to make you think we’re Chicago west.

    • CavalierKong says:

Now I also recognize that Sacramento isn’t exactly the center of anything.

We were named a ‘cowtown’ by Phil Jackson in the 90’s (and boy did he regret it. If you don’t know that story look it up, it’s hilarious. He actually had to petition the league to get Sacto fans to stop with the cowbells).

So maybe we just have a more civilized group of BLMers, lol. The centers of things are the places that will draw the extremist elements.

    • stangerx says:

Cav — protests can be funny. My old place used to get protested. We held a free admission conference and a number of guys picketed outside the entrance. Talking signs, army jackets and chants.

Cracked me up to see them taking off their protest gear and putting on jackets and ties before they walked in for the conference…..where they asked “tough” Qs of the speakers. Nothing like a double dip I guess. 🙂

      • CavalierKong says:

The right to protest really shows the strength of this country. When I found out about the Westboro Baptist Church, I thought there is a perfect example of how great and sh*tty our country can be in one shot. If a group like that can do what they do, this country really is free.

      • stangerx says:

1st amendment has to apply to all…. otherwise it only applies to those who support whoever decides who it does not apply too.

  55. The Flying Pig says:

    Wow

I guess I’m not the only pinko anarchist lunatic in this blog

  56. bailbondmike says:

Yeah, let’s support what BLM has become. One of the BLM leaders said that this most recent looting in Chicago was not looting but considered it collecting reparations. SMMFH

    • stangerx says:

Don’t think you’ll find a rioting and looting fan on this board. And would be surprised if you find a BLM one. That’s different than their right to free speech though. Do you support that? I sure do.

    • CavalierKong says:

A wise man once told me (and I’m paraphrasing here), you have to read between the lines and not take what Trump, I mean they, say literally. It’s all about perception and Trump, I mean they, are just playing that tune…

And in case it isn’t obvious, I’m baiting ya…and the author of that statement…. 🙂

I think Wyo said it well. We all pretty much know where each of us stand on most of the controversial issues, and no one is changing their minds.

For the most part, I’ve stopped trying to argue actual issues and positions, mostly because i find it boring and tiresome. Ramming your head into a wall can be moderately entertaining, but even that becomes monotonous with repetition, lol.

All jokes aside, what I have discovered in the last 4 years is that I know intelligent people that I very much respect on both sides and in the middle of pretty much everything.

What I take from that, is that as much as I may think something is obvious, when someone I really respect has an opposing view, it must mean that perspective means a lot, nay everything. With that in mind, it is so much easier for me to have these conversations and not get riled up because we all see things through our own paradigm of experience and bias.

  57. D says:

I think y’all are still confusing the protesters with the leadership of the organization. The protesters are there to support the issue the organization itself isn’t those people it’s people who are making the comments I’m saying shows that those that lead it have other intentions. Everything I have said gets replied to as if I’m talking about the protesters and I’m not.

    • CavalierKong says:

I don’t think you can talk about one without the other. Both the leaders and the people on the ground make up the organization. And there are many layers of leadership and many different ways this organization tries to spread their message. All the peaceful events I referenced earlier were organized by leaders of the organization at all different levels.

I get it that you think the leaders are corrupt and bad, therefore the organization is. I just don’t paint them with that broad a brush.

I think there are a lot of different people that can be categorized as ‘leadership’ in their organization, and like most organizations I definitely don’t agree with some of what they do and say. As I said before – “…BLM doesn’t strongly condemn the protests that are violent, which I firmly believe they should.” I have no doubt they also argue within the organization about the right and wrong way to do things.

My experience with the people on the ground and in discussions with them, even when I disagree with them, I wouldn’t categorize them as evil or bad or wanting anarchy or destruction. I’m sure others have had different and varying experience than mine.

    • CavalierKong says:

Also, I’m not trying to rile you up or be dismissive of your stance. Sorry if it may have come across that way. I was answering honestly and went to what I felt was important.

Canadians getting Healthcare in US :

Not 100% sure but , based on personal experiences, we do have very good medical coverage IF YOU CAN FIND a DR, and are willing to wait upwards of 2 years for surgeries that are not life threatening IE knee/shoulder repairs.. thus if we are in a hurry and have the $$ or if we can have it covered by our work benefit programs then yes , I can see the appeal and reasoning behind those #’s
After my Bells Palsey diagnosis I attempted to find a DR for after care and to get a physical on wife’s demand.. managed to see a Walk-in clinic dr who agreed to do physical, and write a RX for cholesterol meds, but refused to offer advise or even follow up on the BP. I was also told I could not identify him as MY DR… I was to do blood test every 3 months, I adhered to that but ran a bit late on 3rd appt, then COVID hit, so I put off going again for next three months.. went to fill cholesterol RX two weeks ago and pharmacy informed me this dr will no longer renew RX…
When we hear a DR is taking new patients, we are told to APPLY to become their patient… I don’t need a DR often , but would have liked to have had an option to see someone to assist with the treatment of it.. as it is I still have (18 months later) some issues with watering/droopy eyes and if ya ask my wife 🤔 mumbling/slurring on occasion… wife wants me to find a new dr to look into that and to get my cholesterol checked and reap RX.. she’s also not convinced that it’s BP.. she can be a drama queen worry wart, and thinks a) was misdiagnosed, could have been a stroke , or b) that since then I have had TIAs as my mother had a history of them in her last years … I of course disagree, but am more soured on DRs than before

Sorry for the long blown story , but in a nutshell: there is some serious deficiencies in our medical system as well.

HELL YES , count us in the waiting to be allowed queue…
we had planned a road trip for June to Canton/Cleveland (R&R HOF), through to Niagara Falls… had to scrap that, hopefully next summer… then with the situation in FL and our province requiring 14 day self isolation on return from either US or Ontario , the FEST is looking not too favourable we then decided to take two weeks now and drive west which we do not have to isolate on return…

Really hoping that this gets under control and a resemblance of Normal Life comes back.

    On the BLM …

I am happy with the perceived efforts to recognize and correct racism towards any and all people that have been persecuted and held down due to prejudice whether ethnicity, or religion ..

What I have a hard time with is the fact that (pardon me now) All Lives Matter is frowned upon as being racist… we all SHOULD matter, but if a Caucasian utters anything to that point we are called out as being racist… not sure if BIPOC (black, Indigenous , People of Color) is a thing down there or just Canadas version of BLM, but.. in a company wide conference call at wife’s work, one of the Management Team, said they the Company would be looking into their treatment of and any complaints that staff of color had with their work environment, he said “ All Staff Matter” this was on a live conference call with all staff .. he was immediately attacked by 2-3 of staff on the call, and called , along with all upper management as White Supremesists… another staff member launched off on a client she had by calling her a White Privileged/Entitled Red Headed bitch that needed a throatpunch….

Asking to be treated with respect, and then spouting this crap is just wrong … pick yer battle message .. I want to be treated equal or I want to be above reproach to do and say as I want because I may have been persecuted and or had my PC Feelings hurt….

Hope I did not offend anyone on the above but Yes all people should and do matter… if you are a douchebag , it’s not because you are not the same color as me, it’s because you are a douchebag

You know about that? That shows you are hip to NorCal. Nobody from the area skydives there now, only out of towners who don’t know any better. I’m pretty sure the last one landed on a big rig right on I-5.

The city tagline – “Lodi, only 15 skydiving deaths in 15 years. And we think that ain’t half bad.” lol

      • steveccnv says:

A guy I worked with at Caesar’s Tahoe in the early 90’s went there for his first jump and the chute didn’t open. The reserve did, but the instructor was 275 and he was about 230, so his ass hurt for a month or so, after coming in hot.

    • Mike E. says:

Holy fuck! That’s crazy! What an unbelievable thing to see

Looks like the train got his leg a little as well. Damn.

She doesn’t believe in defunding the police
    ————————————
Then why did she go on GMA and applaud the LA Mayor for cutting 150 mil from their police budget even after the CA governor had to call in the National Guard to help curb rioting and looting in LA?

She approves redirection of money to other related programs. That defunds the police. She says police departments nationwide should be “reimagined”, what ever that means.

IMO, the intentions are good but think they are jumping the gun without a true plan. It is something that may work in the long run but to immediately cut large portions of the police budget is going to make things worse right now.

You can blast me now but I feel like this is just a ploy to appease young voters and feel not much will be done after the election either way.

You like Harris but I feel they could have picked a much better VP candidate. She is too much of a hypocrite for me. She wouldn’t support 2015 legislation when she was attorney general that would’ve required her to appoint a special prosecutor to investigate police deadly force incidents. Now saying the opposite.

I could be wrong, but I feel like she is a younger version of Hillary Clinton. She changes her stance on anything if it means more power. I mean, suddenly in a matter of months, she no longer feels Biden is a racist. As Joe would say, Come on, man!

    • Mike E. says:

A younger, darker version. Truth is, that was one of her most important qualifications as it is. No denying that fact.

  83. D says:

Lol i searched for Lodi Skydiver and one of the first things that came up was Lodi Skydiver 737…. i was like oh i gotta check this out, and apparently there was a dude dragged by a 737 for over 200 miles after his rig got caught on the nose of the plane. He eventually cut himself free but by then he was over another state LOL. “it was a bit disporienting at first, but i cured that by cranking up my Van Halen” he opened his reserve chute and coasted into a Pizza restaurant parking lot and he just took off his gear and went in and had a pizza lol….

Disappointed – I liked Steven Parker.

    • D says:

Yeah i just found that, see below lol.

    • CavalierKong says:

Ah, that’s why i haven’t heard about it, lol.

The Lodi skydiving deaths are true though. They’ve had somewhere between 15-20 in the last 20 years, including the one who’s chute didn’t open and landed on a big rig on the highway. That happened a year or two ago.

      • D says:

Yeah I saw that one. Was a woman diver, supposedly very experienced. They said she might have been trying to glide just above the vehicles and went too low

  85. D says:

Looks like the article might have been from a Satire site, Snopes says was not an actual event. I guess when i saw Lodi and the skydiving fail after Cav said they have had so many issues, i jumped to a conclusion. Still entertaining story lol.

  86. wyoming85 says:

Well there’s something you don’t see everyday!

  87. D says:

Sterk was the dude they were expirementing with switching him from DE to TE wasn’t he?

    • stangerx says:

Yep — I put up an interview with him like a week ago. Seemed like a good guy…. but then you don’t make teams cause you are nice.

  88. wyoming85 says:

  90. D says:

They said the dive place in Lodi is right by the hwy and for the divers to make their approach they have two cross the hwy twice the second pass being the landing one and they have to come in kinda low to the hwy though the one that hit the semi was extremely low. Not a lot of margin for error

    • CavalierKong says:

Yeah, the town isn’t very big and is basically built around HW99 and sandwiched on the other side by I-5. Our two big North/South Highways in the valley.

    • stangerx says:

$15 mil per year is huge, but still not top 10 WR money. Even if close….. won’t be in 2 or 3 years though.

      • steveccnv says:

Its huge for a TE, but we’ve seen this story before, it means nothing until we see the numbers broken down.

      • stangerx says:

Not too much the contract structure could take from him if over half guaranteed. Maybe a blown up cut year at the end but that’s about it.

  93. steveccnv says:

Still not getting why these teams continue to offer these massive contracts, when the cap will likely go down for the foreseeable future.

    • stangerx says:

Good point, but the teams know more than we do about the future of the cap. Might be that the contracts would have been even more.

      • steveccnv says:

I don’t see how they could. The future cap will be based off of revenue from this year. They can’t see the future.

      • stangerx says:

Every year when it budgets, AT&T projects it’s next sales earni9ngs and profits. Doesn’t mean the company gets it right but at assume in a better position to do that than me. In this case….. I don’t even know when the next TV contract is up. Assume the NFL GMs know a lot more about it than that.

      • steveccnv says:

And I don’t necessarily think someone knows more than someone else about a subject, because of their job title. For example how many times have we seen a guy that’s the designated clock management guy fuck it up?

      • stangerx says:

Like I said steve, it was a good point to bring up. Would like to know what their thinking is. But also thinking they have more info than me. Though obviously if the salary cap crashes some team moves will end up right and some wrong in light of that.

  94. ocalarob says:

speaking of parachuters, remember the dude who parachuted into the riddick bowe evander holyfield fight? crazy!

    • D says:

You get some do that into the baseball fields from time to time as well. Still a prize fight thats unique for sure.

    • steveccnv says:

Lol, that was at Caesar’s Palace.

Not sure which one of Bowe’s Holyfield fights it was, but he trained at Caesar’s Tahoe, where I was working in 93 or 94, they said he was going to continue to train there, if he won, but he lost.

So I’m working in room service, and Bowe had one of the suites. Every night during training he ordered several bowls of orange sherbert for his crew, and every night they were playing cards in their boxers.

  95. D says:

Not that Kittle isnt a good TE, but thats way too much for TE. I mean if you are trying to budget for a whole team, you have to have money spots reserved for guys that just arent easy to replace, for me thats a stud DL guy, DE, probably CB, maybe S, and your OL. Im not spending big money on WR (maybe one if they are execptional), TE, RB, or LB, im saving that money for the other spots. LB, maybe one of them, as the leader of the D, but im not going crazy with the money there either. In essence they have just set themselves up to have to get skimpy elsewhere and i dont think that Kittle brings enough to the table as a TE to justify hurting yourself in other spots.

    • Mike E. says:

He’s probably the most impactful player on that team. He’s great inline blocking and no one does more with the ball in his hands than him on that offense, it’s not even close. Who cares what position he plays? No one makes that offense go like he does.
