WR Corps suffer legitimate depth issues with 2 COVID-19 opt outs

Many of you here didn’t really value the services of one Allen Hurns, and maybe I’m on the side of overrating him, but Hurns was on target to be the starter opposite DeVante Parker at least into training camp. If Preston Williams proved he was healthy and battle ready then it’s possible Hurns slipped down the depth chart as he was replaced by the younger, more explosive Williams. IN any case, Hurns was a veteran receiver with AFC experience and one that thrived playing opposite a very talented receiver in Allen Robinson in Jacksonville. Never as much of a big play threat as Robinson, Hurns was a steady, reliable , professional possession receiver. Albert Wilson looked like he was almost all the way back last season, especially towards the end of the season. The last 3 games he caught 17 passes which is nearly half of his season’s production of 41 receptions. He had the lowest YPC average of his career at 8.1 and only one TD but the hip injury that cut his 2019 season short really took its toll on the receiver as he finally worked his way back. I do recall seeing a couple of plays at the end of the year where his explosiveness resembled the player of 2019 where he was turning nothing into something big routinely.

Before the opt outs, I felt like we had a very strong WR room with serious depth and a nice mix of youth and veterans. Parker is 27, Wilson 28 and Allen Hurns 28, along with young up and comers like Preston Williams (23), Gary Jennings (23), Isaiah Ford (24), Malcolm Perry (23) and Jakeem Grant who is now 27. If Preston Williams is ready he takes Hurns spot on the outside opposite Parker. Which receiver or receivers get to thrive in the slot? Jakeem Grant will be in the running as will Gary Jennings and 7th RD draftee Malcolm Perry. Grant has the speed and explosiveness Wilson had but not the size, Grant (5’6 171) is about 25 lbs lighter and doesn’t have the run power to break tackles like Wilson did. Gary Jennings is a little less speedy and explosive but has good size at 6’1 216. Jennings ran a 4.42 at the combine and put up 20 reps so he has some upper body strength. Malcolm Perry is closest size wise and elusiveness to Wilson but doesn’t have the top speed that Wilson had. Perry ran 4.63 40 at the combine. If you watch Perry play though, he always looks fast enough and is a very slippery runner. The Dolphins signed Colts WR Chester Rogers to a 1YR deal which deepens the depth a little. Rogers caught 53 passes in 2018, just 16 last year playing behind WR Zach Pascal.

The biggest concern I have about our WR’s, or really any unit on our team is the depth. If we’ve learned anything by watching MLB, NBA or NHL in 2020 in the year of COVID-19 is that players drop like flies. One second they’re on the team and the next they’re on COVID-19 protocol. Add in the usual NFL injuries, especially considering this year with a huge lack of practices and no preseason games and you will likely see how important good depth will be. I’d even question whether the league will be able to play a full season. We’re going to have to count on a bunch of our deeper depth players this season and I hope we get them all ready for action. When Chan Gailey was with the Jets in 2015-2016, he utilized Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker mostly, with a decent amount of passing to the RB’s Chris Ivory and Bilal Powell. In 2016 Decker was gone after 3 games and replaced by Quincy Enunwa and the offense didn’t really feature a slot WR much. Robby Anderson provided the deep threat on the outside and again, the RB’s, now Matt Forte and Bilal Powell caught a bunch of passes. Jordan Howard isn’t much of a pass catcher but Matt Breida is a good receiver out of the backfield who was stifled by playing time in a 3 headed attack in SF with Raheem Mostert and Tevin Coleman and also CJ Beathard. Malcolm Perry may also get some use out of the backfield and Kalen Ballage was thought to be a good receiver although he didn’t get to show any of those skills here in MIA. Patrick Laird and Kenyan Drake caught the most passes at RB. In any case, one thing we’ll probably have to get used to in 2020 is NEXT MAN UP . . .

I was looking at the Madden 21 ratings yesterday and I noticed that most Dolphins are pretty low, but Jerome Baker I think is especially underrated. They have him rated at 78 which is below average and I think he’s definitely an above average LB

No doubt that i was i really hoping for a chance to land Thomas with our second pick, but being that was a pipe dream anyways, this and Isaiah Wilson were the combo i was really hoping to get. When i watch Thomas id see Kindley doing stuff that was helping him out a good bit, they helped each other out so it was a good pair. Im just glad we got one off that OL because that UGA OL was sick.

    • steveccnv says:

Would be great to see the road grade Kindley starting at RG, and Hunt at RT, that would mean they’re progressing nicely. No way either starts over Davis unwarranted.

    • CavalierKong says:

Kindley is so massive, that is him standing behind Karras in the Dolphins pattern shirt…

Less than a month until we open in New England against the Pets. How great would it be to beat them back to back games in NE? Last time we beat them twice in a row was the 13′ and 14′ seasons in Miami.

    • stangerx says:

We at least have a better chance than last time around… and hoping some day that one is seen as the start of the decline of the Pats dynasty.

      • CavalierKong says:

That day may be soon. They really should be a mediocre team this year at best. Maybe the first of multiple years of just an ok team…

If they end up with another 10+ team this year, it should end any debate (if there is any) about Belicheat as the greatest coach of all time,,,behind Shula, lol.

      • stangerx says:

Shula had his less than dominant teams towards the end, even with Marino. Maybe the time for Belichick to prove he really i the genius….. or not.

  10. CavalierKong says:

Hopefully we can get a sweep against the Jest to get back to even in the series.

Even with NE dominance the last 2 decades, we still lead that series, in part because we’ve had more wins against them in the Belicheat era than any other team in the league.

And we own the Buffalo series. They would have to sweep us for 6 straight years to get ahead.

What’s up gentlemen! I’ve been scrambling for months on end. Had to lay off so many people then work so many hours to make it all work and stay in business. We were compounded by the fact that we were more then halfway into the buildout of another taproom in DT Santa Barbara when this hit and had to make the choice about whether to pull the plug and walk from a large investment or risk it and push through in hopes of big demand when this is all over…which admittedly could be a minute.

We pushed through and just got our final inspections last week, and now I have to hire a couple dozen people in the next week, train them the week after and still do a metric shit-ton of work on the actual taproom…haha…standard.

I’m truly happy I have a job and something to do everyday though. Grateful for that!

“Temperatures in Death Valley skyrocketed to a blistering 130 degrees on Sunday — possibly the highest mercury reading on Earth in almost 90 years.”
    ———————————————————-
When its that hot it doesn’t matter lol. Dry heat to me sometimes is worse. Like 95 for us probably feels like 115, and like we are tucked under someone’s ballsack. Its a horrible feeling 115, the air is heavy, hard to breathe it has so much water vapor in it. 95 Dry heat is almost nothing. Now switch it up to 105, same humidity, so it feels like 120, same same same, but that dry heat just 10 degrees higher is now starting to be exponentially hotter, and its pulling mositure out of your body. We dont go much above but the desert areas get higher, and more intense, so ill keep my miserable humidity, i dont nothing to do with that 130, sweat stinging as it bursts into vapor as soon as it comes out of your body, dehydrated in just a few minutes, no cloud in sight to stop it from cooking your ass weather. I have been out in Vegas during time like that and i say nay nay.

    • steveccnv says:

There’s a town called Baker CA, that’s on the way from LA to Vegas, they’re known for having the largest thermometer in the world. Back in the 90s I was making that trip and it said 129 degrees. Baker is 113 Miles south of Death Valley.

    • stangerx says:

D — not gonna be able to get the exact equation right, but there is a point where you go into heat stroke cause basically sweating doesn’t work anymore to cool the body down. A combination of heat, humidity and wind. But yeah if it is 130 that is the only factor that matters.

      • D says:

We have a southern phrase for it, “cant get cool in the shade” or just “100 degrees in the shade” basically is that point, where you cant get cool no matter where ya go because the water vapor in the air is also hot, but still that dry heat can put ya out faster. You can feel the burden it puts on your heart with your heart working its ass off to get cool.

At least with humidity, you have liquid on ya, if you can catch a breeze you will cool off, in the desert at that temp, there is none of that, your body cant produce sweat faster than its evaporating. One of the biggest things i noticed different from here vs there was that here im outside and im hot and im watching water pool up on my arms, out there my skin was bone dry.

Still at some point it just doesn’t matter its gonna get you if your out in it too long anyways.

  14. pheloniusphish says:

A little background for those who are worried about the whole Post Office thing:

“The president of the United States does not control the operations of the Postal Service nor does he select or appoint the Postmaster General. The Board of Governors does both of these things. The Postal Regulatory Commission sets rates, service levels and decides on postal closings, not the president.
The governors are appointed by a president and confirmed by the United States Senate. No more than five of the nine governors may be from the same political party.
When President Trump came into office the USPS Board of Governors was in shambles and inoperable as President Obama neglected the board. There were not enough members to even form a quorum. In fact, by December 2016 there were zero of a possible nine appointed Governors. Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., was blocking multiple nominations.
Robert Duncan now serves as the Chairman of the Board of Governors. From 2007 to 2009 he was the Chairman of the Republican National Committee, which will undoubtedly be repeated extensively by Democrats.
Also notable was Duncan’s reappointment to the Board of Governors in 2019 when the U.S. Senate unanimously confirmed him again 89-0. It will be difficult for the Democrats, with a straight face, to complain about Duncan’s leadership when the Senate confirmed him a second time and did so unanimously.
Ron Bloom, for instance, was nominated by President Trump and confirmed by the United States Senate to serve on the Board of Governors, but in 2011 President Obama had appointed Bloom to serve as Assistant to the President (Obama) on Manufacturing Policy. The governors are accomplished members of the business community and largely not overtly political.
The Inspector General (I.G.) is also appointed by the Board of Governors and not by the president of the United States. The current I.G. is Tammy Whitcomb.
Further, the Chairman of the Postal Regulatory Commission (PRC), Robert Taub, was appointed by President Obama and confirmed unanimously by voice vote in the United States Senate in December 2016. They help set pricing and service levels.
According to their website, the PRC’s Office of Accountability and Compliance, “It provides the analytic support for Commission review of rate changes, negotiated service agreements, classifications of new products, post office closings,…” In other words, it is an independent body, led by an Obama appointee confirmed by the Senate who makes the postal changes in question.
The PRC also has its own independent Inspector General.
If there is a shortfall in service, it isn’t the president who is in charge. The Board of Governors and the Postal Rate Commission make the decisions. The United States Postal Service receives no annual appropriation by the United States Congress. Their operating budget is dictated by their revenue, which has fallen precipitously with electronic communications.”

    • stangerx says:

The current postmaster general is Louis DeJoy. He took office on June 15 and did a bunch of stuff. Doesn’t he fit into what the Post Office does in some way? Cause according to news stories at least he’s done a bunch of stuff and was named by Trump.

      • pheloniusphish says:

The Board of Governors selects and appoints the Post Master General.

      • CavalierKong says:

The entire current board of governors were all appointed by Trump, then they appointed Lois Dejoy, a major donor and fundraiser for Trump to Post Master General.

So it is misleading news to say Trump appointed him which is what we’ve been reading in the news, but it isn’t a stretch to say it was Trump’s guiding hand.

  21. CavalierKong says:

    D,

I’ve never had a problem breathing in dry heat, even when 110 or more. Whereas visiting Tennessee, I’d have problems breathing when it was 90 and humid, the weight of the moisture in the air is so oppressive. I’ll take 115 and dry over 90 and very humid every time. As far as I know, most people out here feel that way, but I bet it’s opposite back east and south. I think it’s just a matter of what you’re used to.

    • D says:

No when i referred to having a hard time breathing it i was talking about humid air. I just think once you get to a certain point with dry heat it becomes worse. In the normal upper ranges, hands down humid heat, but when the actual temp starts creeping above 100 i think dry heat starts being worse, and you may be right about tolerating one vs the other but i for sure know that 120 or so i saw in Vegas was brutal like i swore to myself i want going to complain about ours anymore lol.

    • Tim Knight says:

No I think humidity sucks for just about anyone. LOL

  25. pheloniusphish says:

Ape – Regarding the Board of Governors, All true. The President appoints them but they are confirmed by the Senate. And I believe the current board was confirmed unanimously. So, while there is little doubt Trump influenced the DeJoy pick, it is disingenuous to put all the responsibility for Dejoy’s actions on Trump.

    • CavalierKong says:

I can agree with that for the most part. But if he’s Trump guy, and what is happening is unprecedented, then it’s fair to say maybe those senators wouldn’t have let this happen had they seen it coming. Confirming an appointment doesn’t imply complicity, more like stupidity.

      • CavalierKong says:

And if confirmation only requires a majority in the senate, then it wouldn’t have mattered one way or the other as it’s a foregone conclusion the GOP led senate would have confirmed Trump’s appointees.

      • pheloniusphish says:

Well I will never argue against the level of our elected bodies’ stupidity. See below for an actual response to the precedence.

  26. pheloniusphish says:

So the big argument against the cost cutting measures is that it will delay mail delivery. From the Federal Times:

“Mail deliveries could be delayed by a day or more under cost-cutting efforts being imposed by the new postmaster general. The plan eliminates overtime for hundreds of thousands of postal workers and says employees must adopt a “different mindset” to ensure the Postal Service’s survival during the coronavirus pandemic.

Late trips will no longer be authorized. If postal distribution centers are running late, “they will keep the mail for the next day,‘’ Postal Service leaders say in a document obtained by The Associated Press.” (https://www.federaltimes.com/federal-oversight/congress/2020/07/15/mail-delays-likely-as-new-postal-boss-pushes-cost-cutting/)

Seriously? People are getting twisted up about a day? Heck – Half the time my mail gets delivered to the house down the street and I get theirs. It takes us longer than a day to exchange hostages! Not to minimize the boneheaded timing, but DeJoy was brought in to make the USPS solvent. How much good money do people want the government to throw after the bad? It has been decades coming and needs to be addressed.

    • CavalierKong says:

      LOL at ‘exchanging hostages’.

D and I were talking about it the other day. I’ve seen delays on packages of up to a week. What is going to happen when we hit the peak of election time?

You definitely have a valid point on fixing the USPS. It can’t be denied this has been an issue for a long time. I can remember in the late 90’s talk about what to do with the USPS and even talk about it being shut down. IMO this is what you call tactical timing, not just serendipitous circumstance.

      • pheloniusphish says:

Oh I agree that the timing is suspect. But gotta rip the bandage off some time, right? And he did offer the Dems a way out…they just have to wheel and deal on the relief package.

      • CavalierKong says:

Wait, so you’re saying we have both found points we can agree on and a sort of common ground even with some ideological differences and opposing views on the subject separating us?

        Who woulda thunk it?

      • pheloniusphish says:

Who knew that apes and Dolphins could do that! Next thing you know we’ll have human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together… mass hysteria and there will be disasters of biblical proportions!

      • CavalierKong says:

        All hail Gozar! LOL

  27. CavalierKong says:

Sorry, my statement was misleading. I said ‘I’ll never move back east’. I meant back as in a direction, not as in again, lol.

      • Mike E. says:

Mikey, if ya dont like either dont vote for either, i mean in your area, probably doesnt make much difference, but i know “the American thing is to vote” but if i cant support either candidate, i dont vote, id rather “waste” my vote and deal with all the people bitching at me about that than support someone i dont believe in and get bitched at for that lol. Maybe the independent candidate will be worth voting for this time. Last guy was poop too. If Kanye running as an independent?

      • CavalierKong says:

D, I agree with that. I had decided early on that if Bernie won, I wouldn’t be voting. Even with my absolute disgust in Trump, I could never vote for Bernie.

      • Tim Knight says:

Well I have voted Libertarian three straight presidential elections. The main reason is because I have major issues with how the two major parties operate. As of right now, I have more concerns with where the left is going. I know what the Republicans are and I know what Trump is. But I will not be voting for Biden because I’m so against career politicians. The only term limits option we have right now is voting. Also the majority of NJ votes Democrat now so my vote with get swallowed up anyway. I’m not a fan of Trump but I might actually vote for him this time because I have a bigger disdain for leftwing politics. The Democrats are no longer the party of JFK. They are becoming more left and I can’t support that. I probably won’t know if I go Libertarian or Trump until the week before the election.

The fact that there may not be any debates is ludicrous to me.

The receivers took back the drill when Preston Williams ran a strong in-breaking route and caught it in traffic, then again on a deep shot with a one-handed catch.”

Myles Gaskin showed the same one-cut ability that produced four straight 1,200-yard rushing seasons at the University of Washington as he ripped off a big gainer up the gut after an intentional stutter at the line.”

“Rowe forced a fumble on a running play. An offensive lineman and another defender went to the ground for the ball but no signal was given regarding the recovery.

  39. CavalierKong says:

“The quarterbacks were sharp. There weren’t any failed exchanges from under center, the football was rarely on the ground, and decisions were made quickly across the board with all three players (Fitzpatrick, Rosen and Tagovailoa).

Isaiah Ford showed off his craft by creating separation for a couple of uncontested receptions in one-on-one drills.

Jakeem Grant showed his explosiveness in the same drill with an impressive comeback route after selling the corner on the take off.

Safeties Kavon Frazier and Brandon Jones were downing punts inside the five-yard-line left and right, courtesy of Matt Haack’s consistent dimes off the left foot.”

The fact that there may not be any debates is ludicrous to me.”

Tim, debates can only hurt Biden, so I won’t be shocked if there are none. They have the perfect out with our current situation, so they may take it. I agree, not debating is beyond ridiculous.

    • Mike E. says:

That’s my thinking exactly. Like a good boxing manager, you protect your fighter from a fight he can probably lose and lose bad and find another one.

      • CavalierKong says:

It’ll be interesting to see as the polls tighten up, how the Biden camp moves forward. They have had it easy to this point with a big lead (whether real or not) and our crises, so he’s had plausibility for staying low key. Once the polls tighten, which they will, and as we get nearer, they may be forced to debate and become more visible.

      • CavalierKong says:

I think we’re going to see a whole lot of Harris.

      • D says:

VP race is really important imo, because i think on either side the VP could be running shit before end of the term.

      • CavalierKong says:

Agreed, D. Hell, I think Harris will be running sh^t before inauguration. LOL

    • stangerx says:

I don’t know. Trump is an awesome campaigner, but not a good debater. Hillary beat him. Subjective as to by how much, but she did. But then I’ve never watched Biden debate, or at least don’t remember the VP debates when he was running with Obama.

      • D says:

He cannot handle conftontation. He is pretty bad, Trump is good at provoking and Biden is bad at avoiding being provoked. Really bad combo.

      • stangerx says:

You might be right. Have to think he’ll be prepped to the gills about what Trump is like though. And sort of funny the knock on him is not being able to handle the other guy who does provoke. Isn’t the bully the less upright one?

      • D says:

Both will come out of the debates looking like childish asshats.

  42. D says:

I just wanna see Biden lose his composure one time on national TV so the whole narrative about good ole grandpa Joe will just go poof, and it will take every bit of a few seconds to do, he just cannot take a confrontation.

    • stangerx says:

Guess that would be a bad moment for any candidate. You seen him interviewed? He seems most sincere and likeable.

      • D says:

I have watched a bunch of them as we discussed before and i definitely didn’t see likeable. I saw good as long as things were going his way but he pops as soon as he gets confronted. He is a hot head and cannot remain composed.

    • Mike E. says:

Won’t make a difference. I know a few of my FB peeps will just say he’s just beating Trump at his won game and he showed “fire”. I do need to see a debate, I need to see how both of these clowns handle it.

  43. CavalierKong says:

    Stang,
LOL, yeah he was terrible in those debates, but it doesn’t matter with him. He can puff up like a bantam and lie and loom while not knowing anything but schoolyard insults and that doesn’t hurt him. It just plays into who he is.

He doesn’t have to be good in debates. His supporters will appreciate the fact he acts like he’s winning, and they’ll believe it. That’s what happened last time IMO. Because you ask his people, and he didn’t lose those debates.

IMO Biden may lose some of the people on the fence if he comes across as really out of it and senile, which I think is a real possibility. I’m not sure he has anything to gain.

I’ve never seen Biden debate either. Perhaps he surprises us all, and he comes out and gets all Bruce Lee on Trump and knocks him cold, but I’d bet quite a bit on that not happening, lol.

    • stangerx says:

I’m with you on all Biden can do in the debates is lose. He might stay even, but that is best case. Trump supporters don’t care what happens. Still think he will debate unless Trump drops out though.

    • D says:

I agree he cant win the debates, he is either going to sully himself with the Stangers who think he is a sweet old codger, and still not beat Trump in a mud slinging contest, or he is going to look senile. I just think its something that Trump, while not even looking like he won the debate will win by default because its a middle road i dont think that Biden can walk without straying off.

  44. Mike E. says:

    • D says:

There are a group of republicans who really dont like Trump, thats been a thing, remember the Bush’s didnt vote for him in the past election and were vocal about their dislike for him. There is no doubt about any of it, he is a polarizing guy, he can be very hard to impossible to like.

  46. Mike E. says:

Kasich shouldn’t be speaking at the Democratic convention, he should be running for President! I’d vote for him pronto!

    • Tim Knight says:

I wanted Kasich to win against Trump in the primaries. But he was another long-term elected official and he never resonated with the people. He didn’t energize anyone. He was barely even focused on during the debates which he pointed out a few times.

Kasich may not have been an energetic personality but he was of a right mind and stood on the right side of many of the issues I cared about. He would easily be the best choice against the two we have right now.

  54. Tim Knight says:

I think what a lot of people don’t realize is Trump is “The Donald!” He’s always been “The Donald” and still is. He’s a brash individual. To me the people are tired of the same old same old and are willing to take a chance with someone who isn’t a career politician. Trump is the first president to ever win the presidency without ever holding a position in public office. That tells you where the people are at. Good or bad that’s the climate. I wish a better rogue candidate existed.

  55. olddolphan says:

MIKE E; I HAD the pleasure of supporting John Kasich when I lived in Ohio. He is what most politicians are NOT. Straight answers, not an outrageous crook, practical, motivated to do the right thing, willing to seriously consider other points of view, and, most importantly, NOT an asshole.

  56. CavalierKong says:

So what started as a flooring project has now turned into a flooring, painting, relighting, and cabinetry project, lol.

Since we’re moving all the common rooms out into a storage container anyway and we’re getting all new flooring and baseboards (so a lot less masking), we might as well repaint the entire interior.

Since we’re repainting the entire interior, now is the time to install new fans and lighting in the dining room and kitchen.

Since we’re redoing the lighting in the kitchen, we might as well take out that section of cabinets over the center counter and replace it with a hanging rack and light fixture.

When we started this project, I thought new flooring, cool, I’ll have to move some furniture. Now I’m going to spend a month doing all this other work before we get the flooring installed. How the heck did that happen?

If my wife starts another sentence with “Since we’re…”

  57. olddolphan says:

WATCHED MOST of the Lightning-Blue Jackets playoff game today. It will NOT go down as a great classic. But it was the kind of “Grind it out win” you have to accomplish if you’re going to seriously compete for Lord Stanley’s Cup. BOTH teams displayed the wear-and-tear residue of that 5 Overtime game played earlier in this series. When it counted the most, Tampa Bay seemed to have just a tad more energy left in the tank than did Columbus. The Lightning would LOVE to end this series in 5 games and take a couple extra days off to prepare for the next round. But that’s easier said than done.

  58. Tim Knight says:

Let’s say we’re a 3-4 base defense at times, or a 5-2. We all know it’s going to be nickel and dime most of the time. So based on some proven and potential, I like this base defense.

DT – Godchaux LSU, Wilkins Clemson and Davis Alabama
    Edge – Lawson and Ogbah
LB – Baker, Van Noy and McMillan
    CB – Jones and Howard
    S – Rowe and McCain

Let’s see with other players specifically rookies, but I really think this is the projected core.
I like how this young defense is coming together with some veteran presence. Flores is big on defense and special teams. It keeps you in the game. Then playmakers make plays to score.

    • CavalierKong says:

LOL, why are DTs the only guys that get to rep their college?

      • Tim Knight says:

I was too lazy to do everything, lol. But these guys are battle tested at a high level of football. It all starts in the trenches. Godchaux the veteran is 25 years old (4th year in the NFL), Wilkins 24 (2nd NFL season) and Davis soon to be 22 (Rookie). All of these guys are hard to block one on one. What happens when the edge guys and LBs get involved? 😉

      • CavalierKong says:

I’m really excited to see this defense come together.

  59. pheloniusphish says:

Best part of the beginning of this season for me is that I’m in Florida for the first 3 or 4 games.

  60. Tim Knight says:

Kong, all three of the DL we’ve mentioned can lineup inside the tackles and create havoc. Talent is talent. Lawson and Ogbah were huge additions on the edge. We didn’t have that kind of talent last year. We’ll see what the rest of the rookies do. I think Raekown Davis is a steal if he’s committed. He was a 1st round talent who has some red flags about his motivation and production. You can’t teach his 6-6 310 athletic ability.

On Tim’s 3-4, 5-2 base, yes those 8 players are the corps of our front 7 and I don’t remember being that strong up front for quite some time, but the depth behind them may be the key to the success of our D, especially on 3rd down, when we’ve got the players to have exotic looks. I’m not trying to downplay the base guys or the great CBs we have, just thinking the floor of what they’ll bring is a given (strong play). Also, how many times in the past have we had trouble on D, because after the first, 1st down on a drive the D tired?

Flo likes to get teams into 3rd and long, then make them think about what’s coming, which causes a lot of checkdowns, if they gamble it’s where TOs happen. It’s why the cheats got a lot of TOs, and not because the players were necessarily great.

The front 7 has so much depth, that we won’t be forced to play Strowbridge and Weaver, if they aren’t ready. We can bring them along at their pace.

This is not a publication with the renown of The American Journal of Medicine.
