Injuries and cuts reshape Dolphins roster

When I first heard the news that the Dolphins waived/injured our 5th RD pick Curtis Weaver I was furious. Sometimes I can’t help myself, I think “same old Dolphins”. I thought for $670K we could have put the kid on I/R and next year we’d have ready to go and see what he can do. Take a look at the picture up above, the dude is flexing and my modest biceps are bigger than that dudes, he looks soft. Still, Weaver was productive and many draft experts gave us high marks on that pick, a great value in the 5th RD. The Browns, who claimed Weaver have put him on I/R. To be fair, I thought Flores looked especially and unusually uncomfortable when asked about Curtis Weaver. Flores is pretty quick and direct and during the interview, he labored to answer why Weaver was cut which leads me to think there’s something more than we may ever find out. In any case, Weaver is a Brown now and you know what that means to me. (I’ll spare you the expletives)

Kalen Ballage’s career as a Miami Dolphin is also over. He leaves much like one other promising RB draft pick of the past left, in disappointing fashion. Daniel Thomas never fulfilled his potential and Kalen Ballage who I once thought could be our version of David Johnson “light” yet turned out to be David Johnson 20,000,000 gallons of helium. So with the waiving of Curtis Weaver and then the release of Kalen Ballage, the Dolphins signed DB Deatrick Nichols and claimed RB Salvon Ahmed, a former Washington Husky RB. I can’t blame Kalen Ballage completely because our organization doesn’t have a ton of cred evaluating RB’s. We traded away Ajayi (Gase), we traded away Kenyan Drake (who is flourishing with the Cards) and now gave up on Kalen Ballage. If Ballage does well elsewhere, that will amp up this feeling.

The camp battles so far are encouraging. Big Robert Hunt and Solomon Kindley are making noise, winning some battles and losing others but making a splash nonetheless. I like that last years 3rd RD pick Michael Deiter is getting a lot of reps at center and is most likely being groomed as the replacement for Ted Karras who is here on a 1 YR show me contract. I can actually see light at the end of the tunnel with this O-line. Eventually, I see Jackson – Flowers – Deiter – Kindley – Hunt, or maybe Jesse Davis continues his elevated play at RT and holds off Hunt and Hunt moves inside to RG and then Kindley is a very nice depth player to have. The QB’s have all had ups and downs and rookie phenom Tua Tagovailoa is not immune to that. This is expected, anyone who thought Tua was just going to ride onto the field on a unicorn and throw rainbow TD’s every throw was due for disappointment. He’s just getting started and I’m sure there is a lot the kid is trying to absorb at this point. He’s got talent, let him get up to speed. Honestly, I expect some play from mostly everyone with the limited amount of work players and coaches are able to get in. Hopefully as the season progresses, things will look better. If that happens, that’s a good thing. I think teams that have mostly the same personnel and coaches back have a clear advantage over teams with many new p-layers, new coaches and new systems. The Dolphins check all of those boxes so keep your early expectation low.

GO DOLPHINS!!

Mandantory, here, for people who have been in close contact with someone who has tested positive for covid. The father tested positive and they pulled the kid from school soon as he learned, the kid then was tested and found to be positive, so no waiting out that test its in lol. Since my son and 2 other boys had been around/close contact with him, they were all pulled today and told to be tested and quarantine for 14 days. Im gonna give it 2-3 days as they recommended and then take him in for his test so he doesn’t get a false negative.

    • stangerx says:

I’m so sorry you and yours have to go through that. But if the test comes back negative that’s the end of it I hope.

      • D says:

Yeah, i mean he still has to sit out the 14 even with a negative test, but at least we wont have to worry about the virus

  2. Mike E. says:

Stanger – I’ll give you a very small example. During the DNC turn the channel to any station other than Fox News or I suppose OAN which I’ve never watched and all you saw and heard was glowing praise after each speaker etc etc. Then you flick on any of those same channels during the RNC and all you see is scowling faces and hosts making fun of the things the speakers said and implying they weren’t truthful speaker after speaker. How is that not dangerous? I found it infuriating, but they run the show, they say what they want and how they want to in order to influence. Can’t imagine how you don’t see that as dangerous

    • stangerx says:

You think Hannity had glowing reports of the DNC speakers? I started with ABC Nightly News (most watched news show in the U S)….. thinking they were even -keeled. Matter of fact watched their coverage and it was. Watched ABC’s coverage of both conventions as well. Didn’t see huge bias. Cable news shows…. that’s different.

      • Mike E. says:

NO!!! Absolutely not, quite the opposite. That’s exactly what I’m talking about and thank you for helping make my point. Basically it’s 1000 channels all playing the same song and maybe one or two that don’t follow that pied piper’s message. That’s insane! Has it gotten to the point where if you’re not a left wing lunatic that you have to watch Fox News or OAN to not feel assaulted? It’s absurd. As someone who was paid to be an influencer, you should realize that even more!

      • Mike E. says:

To be honest, I don’t even want to watch Fox News because I can’t believe their shit either, but the shit they put out is a least more tolerable to me. I wish there was an unbiased news station that told everything as it was w/o bias for either side. It DOESN’T exist.

      • stangerx says:

Watch the daytime folks at Fox News even have to DVR. Once the sun goes down their “entertainment” division takes over. I didn’t make that up…..actually what they call it.

Pretty silly folks for doubting you folks cause Biden fully admitted getting the Ukraine prosecutor fired. According to him and an international coalition for good reason.
    _______________________________________________
He did it because the prosecutor was investigating the corrupt company that Bidens son was collecting millions from. No problem with Biden doing that but he used tax payers funds to threaten the govt into the firing, it stinks to high heaven and it’s the same thing they tried to impeach Trump on, even worse as Biden admitted as much.

    • stangerx says:

There was no current investigation of Burisma at the time, but can’t say Biden wasn’t looking for payback for the past investigation….. even if doubt it. And what they impeached Trump for seems most distinct from that to me at least. But your opinion is your opinion. Watch the hearings?

      • steveccnv says:

If you can’t see the pay for play in the Ukraine, then turn around and say, but what they impeached…I dont know what to say.

It’s the same conversation over and over again

At this point I’m not trying to persuade anyone and I know most people disagree with me which is everyone’s right to do.

People can take their thought to the voting booth in November. I doubt anyone reads a comment here and says – “hallelujah – I needed that to make up my mind”.

I’m just not always comfortable leaving stuff that’s posted without responding to it so that people can see their are other points of views on these subjects who are active here On this blog

But it’s wise to avoid going down the rabbit hole as much as you can
It should be easier with football on the horizon but the political season is also heating up so that’s an obstacle

I resisted for about a week until today….lol

    • D says:

I do too, thats where most my deletes come in, where i just go, there `nothing i can say or do to change this thought, its just going to stir the pot. Most of the time these days i bail out of saying it, sometimes i dont i just thing i need to throw my counter argument out there, though i still have no lofty ambitions on changing someones mind. Minds change on their own, sometimes an argument makes a person at least reconsider their point, perhaps even it eventually leads to a closer towards the middle vantage point but changing a mind, changing the vantage point s just on the person. Some cannot be swayed, other maybe, your argument can be the same to each of them, and some do some dont, which says that the changing of the mind, the sway-ability of the person is more in their character not in your argument.

      • The Flying Pig says:

Should I just retire from being an attorney….lol

      • D says:

Well y’all throw out as many of those personality types as you can from your jury pool. You just have to lean on the rest of them to change the minds of the holdouts that still made it through the process, i mean if we are speaking in criminal terms. Id assume most other branches its about either finding a law/statute that fits your argument for this or that settlement, or this or that in a flexible ruling.

  5. Mike E. says:

Stanger – What I should have said was ALL news outlets should be the same, they should all have the same unbiased reporting. Maybe I was young and naive and didn’t know any better but I thought at one time when I was younger it may have actually been that way. What happened I’m not quite sure, or why or how it happened.

News people are people too no matter what happens. Was at a bill event in Michigan. Newscaster was my dream girl. Ever met that woman who you can’t stay away from? Was supposed to brief her but then kept going back (even if was married to the first one). In my mind she at least felt it too.

The news report from the event comes up and there are my hands clasped with my wedding ring front and center…lol. I was one of like 80 people there…. but she punked me. Man what could have been.

  6. D says:

I think the political talk, talks of religion, etc are and should be welcomed. I mean sure this is a board dedicated to football, but is that where we really draw the line in our interactions with one another. I think to no talk about subjects and see each others view[points, and be reasonable enough to at least not degrade the person for having them, is part of the closeness we have as a group, and if we dont have that, this group dynamic also changes.

      • D says:

Whats so shocking to me is the ERA he has done it in, which kinda works backwards for RB vs QB,s and the relatively quiet way he has done it. Its like no real hooplah around him but just solidly and quietly has gotten there by having consistent years.

  8. wyoming85 says:

    • D says:

actually those are some pretty shocking names. Nichols they had just picked up recently but a lot thought he might be a guy who would stick. Moss started for us last year and thought he had the inside track for a last backup/rotational spot. Louis was thought by some tio likely make the team, especially when the other two vets opted out. Definitely not one of those situations where your like, who are these fucking guys lol.

      • D says:

Good news for Render, Frazier, Merrit and Cole, and a handful of CB’s whose chance of making the team just got one spot better.

      • Tim Knight says:

Maybe that means other guys are stepping up.

      • D says:

Im sure. Me personally, everything even id go with a guy who is hungry, like a rookie or young player trying to crack a roster over a vet.

  9. stangerx says:

Josh Gordon sold his Pat’s 2018 Super Bowl LIII ring for $138,000 at an auction Sunday. Since he was suspended at the time maybe not much sentimental value.

  11. bailbondmike says:

How many are on our roster now?

  12. stangerx says:

Looks we have this at WR.

    DeVante Parker
    Preston Williams
    Jakeem Grant
    Isaiah Ford
    Mack Hollins
    Malcolm Perry (Rookie)

2019 waiver claim Gary Jennings, UDFAs Kirk Merritt and Matt Cole and recent signee Andy Jones are the others right now. But yeah stole that from Dolphinswire…. sounds right to me though. ‘Cept maybe Perry or Hollins aren’t active on game day.

    —————————————————————-
Trump was accused of withholding funds unless ukraine looked did an investigation into Hunter Biden.
Joe Biden admittedly did withhold funds until the prosecutor that was looking into burisma was fired.
Both were accused of withholding US funds for their own advancement. and one of them admitted doing so.
seems pretty damn similar to me.

    • stangerx says:

As I told you above — “There was no current investigation of Burisma at the time,” There was one but it was over and closed. But lets say there was an open one — do you think that wrong? And how about what Trump did….. wrong? I’m against both those scenarios, but then don’t really have a dog in the fight either. Just hoping for good government.

      • ocalarob says:

Before you convict Trump of wrong doing you should know the accusations were alleged not fact, so really Trump didn’t do anything wrong, Biden admitted to it.

  16. ocalarob says:

53 + 16 will make the roster and the PS, of the 16 they have to hit the waiver wire so we may lose some of them and we also may pick up some as that other teams have waived. i believe if you pick up a player off waivers he’s not PS eligible, is that correct?

    • D says:

I think he has to go on your 53 first before you can get him to the PS or maybe that’s just regular season.

      • Tim Knight says:

That’s during the season if you pluck a player off the PS. He has to be on your 53 roster for 3 weeks before PS eligible.

Stanger you just had to watch the first 2 minutes, it tells you how the Biden family had a relationship with world oligarchs, but didn’t start doing any deals until he became VP. Basically he sold out our country, and even gave trade secrets, so what they’ve been accusing Trump of once they’re doing themselves.

The key part of this is once he became VP, just as hilllary did as SOS, so who will he sell out to once president. Some here have been gaslighted.

Coach discusses the different fronts this defense runs and how it gives the offense different looks. Brings up the question are we bringing four, bringing five, maxing out the box? It gives the offense more to think about.

Pleasant surprise that Strowbridge and Raekwon are showing flashes, seems both are in the rotation.

I like Sieler, and glad he’s in this report, if nothing else his 6’6″ height matters, then combine that with Raekwon and maybe Ogbah, that’s a big front. Won’t work every week, but a nice group to have.

      • stangerx says:

No doubt. One thing I learned from that is that CBS has an announcer depth chart like a football team. Romo’s team goes down in a #METOO scandal and they got another team already warned up on the bench. 🙂

  40. Mike E. says:

Stanger – Very true. Officiating crews are that way as well. Better teams get the better crews

Anyone try FUBOtv? Or can anyone recommend a service where I can stream live 🐬 games during the season from the internet in Ny?

    • ocalarob says:

Here’s two, one’s for free the other cost $139 per year after discounts. from what the guy is saying on the video i would pay that for what they give.
i checked it out, you can upload it on your firestick however you have to go to the website to buy it, that’s where it gets funky. it says they cant take payment on that site and wants to redirect you, when you go to the other site it will take your payment however it tells you there’s free shipping and how long it will take? why do they want to ship me something? the free site is on the vid as well but he says it doesn’t play good and you get pop ups. looks like i will be going to winghouse again this year.

  42. stangerx says:

Seems Jakeem is going to be our 3rd receiver. Should we be worried about durability?

He’s gone on IR last two years. One was an achilles injury and the other a high ankle sprain. Leg injuries in a speedster not cool. Not necessarily calling him injury prone, but he’s giving up a lot of weight wherever he goes on the field.

  43. CavalierKong says:

    Piggy,

This site worked for me all last season.
    https://home.nflbite.com/

Someone on this site mentioned it, I cancelled my DIrectv for the first time in 15 years and streamed from my ‘puter to the TV and it was great. It had the occasional pause, but overall it was way better than paying for a service.

I found this site a few months ago and have watched all my hockey on it. It has been perfectly flawless HD, so I’m hoping it’ll be great for NFL too.

    https://sportsurge.net/#/groups/0

    • stangerx says:

Are these places legal or is it like getting all the premium channels after the cable guy hooks you up for a tip?

      • CavalierKong says:

Not legal. I’m not sure you can get all NFL games streamed on anything except DirecTv and it be legal.

    • The Flying Pig says:

Thanks….I used that before in past seasons but I just want a legit service I pay for that isn’t a risk of being interrupted

      • CavalierKong says:

Oh gotcha. Can you get a deal like Sunday ticket (all games) anywhere legit without DirecTV? They have exclusive rights.

      • CavalierKong says:

I guess the way to do it is satellite TV where you can get all the local markets. I’m guessing that must be what Rob is posting with the Sterling TV

      • stangerx says:

Some places can stream the NFL Ticket if not in a place where can get direct tv. And a once over on that seems to be high rise apartments and condos the prime suspects. If you do qualify won’t be cheap though.

        https://nflst.directv.com/

  44. CavalierKong says:

OK, I just watched one of the vids Rob posted, and funny enough the free way the guy mentions is sportsurge, but I’m really interested in that Sterling TV. I have a firestick, and I looked at the redirect site for payment. It’s aliexpress, and researching them, they look legit.

I may give Sterling TV a try myself. I’m a bit concerned they have only been around a couple of years, but $189 isn’t much of a risk.

      • CavalierKong says:

Yeah, I’m thinking I’ll probably wait to see how nflbite and/or sportsurge look. I used nflbite all last season, and there was only one game that I got annoyed with the buffering. It’s easy to avoid the ads if you’re familiar with those streaming sites.

      • son of a son of a shula says:

It worked great for me last year. I’m gonna try sportssurge too and see which one I like.

  45. son of a son of a shula says:

Piggs, Fubo is like any other service, there’s always one big draw back, Fubo’s problem is they don’t have anything ABC including ESPN. You’d need an antenna for your local ABC and a bar for Monday Night games.

    • son of a son of a shula says:

Also I don’t think you get out of area games with Fubo but like Hulu and others you get locals except ABC. They do have NFL Network which is about the only streaming site that does.

However, I jumped up-and-down as I listened to the radio broadcast of Joe Auer’s kickoff return for a TOUCHDOWN on Miami’s VERY FIRST PLAY!! It was a moment I will never forget!! — I DID get to see some of Miami’s home games that season, including their VERY FIRST WIN against the Broncos!! –When I walked out of the Orange Bowl after that game I KNEW I’D BE A DOLPHIN’S FAN FOR LIFE!!
    ——————
THINGS GOING A BIT CUCKOO today in Tampa Bay when Buc’s announced that NO FANS would be permitted inside the stadium for their first two games. One caller correctly pointed out that Greater Miami has much higher infection and death rate rate from the virus than does Tampa Bay, yet the Dolphins WILL ALLOW over 10,000 fans to see their games in person. WHO is right in this situation? We’ll know in a few weeks, won’t we??

Also, some insane woman has threatened violence on all teachers and school personnel who wear masks during school hours. She made these threats on FACEBOOK today while boasting about her vast array of high tech weapons (which the FBI confirmed SHE DID HAVE!). sHE’S CURRENTLY BEING interviewed by the Feds somewhere in the Tampa area. And her facebook account is closed.

  65. wyoming85 says:

  66. wyoming85 says:

  67. steveccnv says:

Yeah, size. When watching highlights from last year the most explosive plays happened when the receiver was cover fairly well. On any given play the QB could just chuck it up there, something RT failed to do enough. Rosen has good repoire with Preston and Parker, another reason I don’t want to trade him.

Now I’m getting pissed at the Rosen trade offers, let’s make sure we have a good future QB before we take another 4th and give up a 5th, I mean WTF?

    • stangerx says:

All depends on the offer. What would you take for Rosen? I think his top end is an average NFL starting QB, but that’s at very best. Low end is a good #2. I’d take a 3rd, maybe even a 4th.

      • son of a son of a shula says:

The Cards were desperate to move him and we got him cheap, fortunately we have the luxury of keeping him for however long that might be. I’d be looking for no less than a 2nd at this point, and if a team suddenly gets desperate we can hold them over a barrel for a first.

      • steveccnv says:

No less than a 2nd. I disagree his ceiling is average starter. He’s got a big arm with nice touch, he just needs some blocking.

Tom Seaver would step so far and so low that in each game he pitched his right knee would be dirty from it scraping the mound on his release. He threw it hard, he was great to watch.
I saw him at Tinker Field here in Orlando when the Twins had spring training here. He was with the White Sox at that point nearing the end of his career.

    • ocalarob says:

I remember going to a spring training game when i was a kid, i was trying to get a foul ball from the bottom of the fence, only problem was, i was on the other side, Boog Powell came up to the fence picked up the ball and handed it to me.

  72. Ken says:

It is good we are shopping Rosen. That means the team is happy with Tua’s health and his development during camp. It is clear that if Fitz is hurt Tua is the replacement. I don’t expect there will be a long line of suitors for Rosen at this point. Whatever we can get is better than nothing

One of my TVs is down so I call U-Verse. You have to go through an autodial trouble shoot on that. Then call back and RoboATT guy says “see we’ve already trouble shooted with you, still having problems?” After a YES….. “OK let me get you someone to talk with.”

One of my favorite ‘activities’ is to get a tall rum and coke and sit in a chair to watch my wife argue with the AI customer service robots. She starts getting angrier, and louder, and starts cursing at it, while I am just sitting there cracking up.

      • Ken says:

In some cultures that might be considered foreplay 😁

      • stangerx says:

They can be frustrating…wouldn’t take so much pleasure out of your wife going off on them though. Might not make the rest of your night so good. When mine goes off about someone I’m like “Oh Shit…when that is over is venting time.”

      • CavalierKong says:

LOL @ Ken. Not far off.

Stang, it’s a game. That is the venting. Going off on a robot is a harmless way to vent. Obviously if it exacerbated things laughing at her, I wouldn’t do it.

We usually get a laugh off the other’s anger because there isn’t much that sets us off, so whoever is ‘going off’ usually ends up turning from real frustration to playing it up for the laughs. Unless it’s directed at each other of course, lol.

It’s an amusing dichotomy twining the laughter and the frustration. Very therapeutic, lol.

      • stangerx says:

Sounds like you guys have it figured out. Bet you wouldn’t do the same if married to my wife though…… she’s scary. Lot of real nice things too, but when she gets mad watch out.

Son, one of the few Reds games I got to go to (lived closer to Chicago), Tom Seaver was pitching vs the Mets. He went 7 innings and got a no decision but he hit a homerun that game. It was cool. I remember seeing the red clay on his knee. Man, with his throwing motion, how did his knees hold up for so long?

  77. Mike E. says:

Pretty sure I told this story here before, but it’s a cool memory. My dad was in the film business, he was working for a company that produced a lot of the color for Hollywood films called TVC. He was in Chicago the year the Mets traded Tom Terrific away to the Reds and my dad was just devastated by the trade. Consider it like the Dolphins trading Marino in his prime. Anyway, my dad is in Chicago staying at the Chicago Sheraton and my dad was a drinker, he was in sales most of his life and the 6 martini lunch was part of lifestyle. He goes downstairs to the bar and who is there but practically the entire Cincinnati Reds team of 1977. My dad sits at the bar and then at some point he sees Tom Seaver talking with a few of the other players and he can’t resist. He starts to talking to Tom and explains how heartbroken he is that the Mets traded him away and before long he’s hanging with Tom, Pete Rose, Dave Concepcion, George Foste, Cesar Geronimo, Mike Lum, Joe Morgan, (Griffey was not present). He said Tom was also super upset about the trade and that he was actually sick that night, had a bad stomach. My dad hung with these guys for quite a while, I still have all of their autographs on his business cards.

    • Tim Knight says:

      Cool story.

Yeah that is a really awesome story. Even as an adult and them, as old men, if i was to see that kinda group of historic players in one spot id go from D the short story writer, to D the man with one word replies. When it comes to baseball i am really into its history, and i dunno if you can get a much bigger lineup in one spot than that, and in their prime as well, crazy.

      • Mike E. says:

Flores talks about the conversation of cutting a player ahead of the season.

Thanks for putting these tweets out, I really appreciate that. For every interview there’s only about 3 to 5 tweets in the bunch of an interview. Not really many highlights.

Ever listen to these interviews? Our beat writers are the worst. The questions they ask must be the stupidest in the league. I mostly stopped watching them, because they don’t give me anything new.

I know they aren’t watching practice much and Flores doesn’t want to provide much, but you’d think that would bring better questions.

    • steveccnv says:

They should just stop the covid number counts. There’s so much inaccuracy in them, that they don’t mean anything. The case count is way over blown, as are the death counts. The same person getting counted multiple times, some hospitals counting every patient as covid, then the next day saying they’re negative. Every death in some places marked as covid.

I heard the numbers of deaths in any given year isn’t much less than this year, counting by month.

  95. Mike E. says:

Piggy – Obviously he wasn’t shot 7 times but he had so many ailments I just think it’s sensationalism and political to call his death a COVID-19 death. I’m just tired of this shit already.
