2021 Position outlook – OL

Our offensive line going forward, assuming there are no cuts or trades sets up relatively economically. The highest paid lineman is last years big FA acquisition, LG Ereck Flowers. As expected, he was somewhat overpaid as free agent pickups usually are. I thought Flowers played well, especially in the run game, he is a mover, often getting the best of his man and getting a good push downfield. The big question will be who plays center in 2021. Ted Karras was signed to a 1YR deal last season and is an UFA. Third year OG/C Michael Deiter played 2% of the snaps and played in all 16 games as a ST’s player and backup. He did play most of the backup snaps at C. It’s possible he’s the answer at center next season or perhaps we acquire a center in the draft. Deiter did play 93% of the snaps in 2019 at LG The Dolphins got a first hand look at the Senior Bowl at 2 potential draftees in Oklahomah’s Creed Humphrey and Wisconsin-Whitewater’s Quinn Meinerz. Humphrey could be one of the earlier centers off the board, probably not until RD2-RD3 while Meinerz would be a later pick. It’s also possible Ted Karras gets re-signed.

1st RD draft (#18) started 12 games and played in 13 games missing a couple due to injury. He was acceptable, not dominant in any way, but consider he had just turned 21 and has a lot of growing to do. I think he clearly has his best football ahead of him. A full offseason of working out and training camp will have him in better shape to start the season. The other 2 draftees that played a good amount of the time on the O-line were 4th RD pick Solomon Kindley who played 70% of the snaps at both RG and then LG when Ereck Flowers was injured. Robert Hunt (2nd RD) played RT and played 68% of the snaps. Both of these guys are veritable mountains. Kindley did have trouble pulling which is expected from such a large man (6’3 340). Hunt while not as heavy as Kindley is still a big man at 6’5 330. Those 2 guys provided some nice run blocking when they were both on the right side.I’d say they were adequate at pass blocking. I never felt like the O-line was a sieve as I have felt in many years watching this team play.

My preference would be to draft a center, and he would compete with Michael Deiter for the starting job. The aforementioned Creed Humphrey could be one the first centers off the board. Other top center prospects are Alabama’s Landon Dickerson, Ohio State’s Josh Myers along with Trey Hill from Georgia. If T Penei Sewell is available at our pick, and he should be at #3 if we stay there, he’d be an upgrade over Austin Jackson or Robert Hunt but I don’t think we go that way. Weapons for Tua come in different packages and top OT to protect him wouldn’t be a bad thing but my feeling is we’ll continue to let young Austin Jackson develop at LT and go forward with big Robert Hunt at RT. I think we’ll be looking for playmakers for Tua with our first pick whether at #3 or later. Think Ja’Marr Chase or DeVonta Smith.

GO DOLPHINS 2021!!!

Just finished 8 seasons of Wentworth.. Australian version of Orange is New Black.. really enjoyed it as well. Some really fucked up characters.

  2. Tim Knight says:

I still think we need speed in the front 7. LOL

  3. Mike E. says:

Toba – Dana and I were watching Queen of the South. Think we made it to season 3 or 4 and we just couldn’t take it anymore. It basically became just a show about how many different ways they could lose their coke supplier and how they can find a new one. So repetitive. Also, we laughed at how many times they said “Salud” and “Cabrón”. Pote was our favorite and I would walk around the house saying in his voice “Teresita, this one is too dangerous for you, let me do it”, or something to that effect. First season was good, maybe even part of the second. Your thoughts?

BTW – we just watched “Impostors” on Netflix, that was really good, just 2 seasons and due to COVID-19, there may not be a season 3.

    • stangerx says:

Mrs. and I really like the first season. Kept with it in the 2nd and let it go sometime in the 3rd. But did you learn how she got killed? That was what was so different right off the bat — you see the title character about to die. Wish it had stayed so inventive.

  4. Mike E. says:

Tim – Stop spewing your liberal agenda about the front 7 dammit! lol

  5. CavalierKong says:

They keep losing their coke dealer in Queen of the South?

*shudder* – sounds like a horror movie, and not something I want to experience, even vicariously. Who even makes sick shows like that?

Thanks for the rec. Toba, but I’ll pass on that one and stick to lighthearted shows that deal with fun stuff like murder, torture, and espionage. 🤣

    • Mike E. says:

Not dealer per se, supplier, which is so much worse. Dealers you can find anywhere, but when your supply gets cut off, business really suffers. It was so awful to see that happen to those poor people.

  6. stangerx says:

Zach learns if he gets in the HOF today, least this year. Good luck dude!

  7. stangerx says:

Gonna be a lot of unhappy Tua jersey owners if we trade for Watson.

“Tagovailoa ranked fourth on the NFLPA Top 50 Players Sales list for the March 1 through Nov. 30 period.”

  8. D says:

Dealer just means ya gotta find a strip club. Someone is selling in there.

  9. manitobafinfan says:

Season 2 least favourite,3-4 were better, Pote and Tony are featured more… loved King George character … as of season 4 ending no light on the how she dies you speak of Stanger

    • Mike E. says:

Yes Toba, King George is great. I just checked a couple of minutes ago, we last watched season 4 episode 1. Couldn’t tolerate it anymore. Just too repetitious.

  10. Tim Knight says:

    Happy Birthday Bob Marley! RIP

  11. mf13ss says:

    Zach Thomas denied… AGAIN 😡

  12. mf13ss says:

  13. Mike E. says:

Damn, this was a tough class to get in but I honestly don’t know who Bill Nunn is

  14. Tim Knight says:

Bill Parcells told Kevin Mawae if we don’t block Zach Thomas we won’t win the game. The respect Mawae has for Thomas and vice versa, is all anyone needs. I don’t want to go off on these couch, donut eating critics who decide what is and what should never be. But I will if I have too.

  15. pheloniusphish says:

Cav – Another series for you on prime. Strike Back. Everything you like…espionage, special forces, shooting shit up. Plus a splash of gratuitous nudity.

  16. olddolphan says:

EARLY THIS MORNING THE BIGGEST, NOISIEST, STORM of the last decade moved through Tampa Bay! Mrs. OD and me missed at least two hours sleep last night. And our dogs were scared shitless, especially the big greyhound!! When I walked the dogs a few minutes ago I noticed plenty of tree limbs were down in our neighborhood. And some garbage cans were strewn into adjacent houses, some with their garbage contents spread all over.
    —————————-
There’s little chance the football players from the two teams got anything near a full night’s sleep. I could hear the full noise of the storm WITHOUT EITHER OF MY HEARING AIDS!! And I’ve got about 60% hearing loss in one ear and about 30% in the other (with the hearing aids turned up all the way!) But I take out the hearing aids when I go to bed. I place them in a battery charger over night.
    ————————–
It’s likely the two teams here for the Super Bowl lost approximately the same amount of sleep last night. But, perhaps, that may NOT be the case. Right now the temperature is in the mid 60’s. It is predicted to rise to 73 for the 6:30 kickoff. And no more rain is in today’s forecast. I’m guessing a lot of local homes now up for sale here in Tampa Bay will draw some interest from northerners heading back to horrid weather conditions after the game. Local realtors expect a spike in home sales in the next few weeks.
    ————————-
The improving weather conditions should bring a high scoring Super Bowl. The loss of All-Pro Tackle Eric Fisher will be a big blow to the Chiefs. In fact, I think Fisher’s loss will cost the Chiefs at least 7 points. And Fisher’s replacement had better protect Patrick Mahomes’ BLIND SIDE!! Also, the return of 350-pound run stuffer Vita Vea to the Bucs’ defense could be bad news for the Chiefs’ running game. Make no mistake, I’ll be rooting for the Chiefs to win. But I’m going to take the 3 point spread and call this game 30-27 for Tampa Bay.

Hope y’all enjoy the Super Bowl!!

  17. wyoming85 says:

Well yesterday sucked for the Fins.
    DPOY, Nope
    Hall of Fame inductee, Nope
    COTY, Nope

We couldn’t even get Fan of the Year

  18. son of a son of a shula says:

Same storms passed through here too OD should be a clear and beautiful rest of the day

  19. CavalierKong says:

Congratulations to Coach of the Year Kevin Stefanski for taking a perennially underachieving Browns team loaded with talent throughout the roster to the playoffs. Mcdermott was 2nd with a ridiculously talented Bills team. Flores, who coached a 10 win team with an offense bereft of playmakers, 3 rookies on the oline, a rookie QB, and a completely rebuilt defense, took 3rd.

    Fucking bullshit.

  20. The Flying Pig says:

Next year we will be ready to win all the awards

    Coach of the year
    Rookie of the year
    MVP
    Somewhere between 14-15 pro bowlers

    Year of the Oink!

  21. CavalierKong says:

Phel, I’ll put that one on the list as well. Strike Back was nowhere on my radar, so I appreciate the rec. I’m always looking for stuff to binge.

And Toba, I hope it was clear I was just kidding about Queen of the South. Anytime I can make a joke involving how much I love coke, I will, and Mike set me up nicely so…………line, anyone?……lol

I appreciate the rec, and I’ll give that show a try too.

    Cheers, guys. 🙂

  22. CavalierKong says:

Phel, Strike Back is on Cinemax, which also has Banshee. If you haven’t checked Banshee out yet, give it a try. It’s a very fun mashup of intense violence and strong gratuitous nudity every episode. Once you get used to the flavor, it’s a great show that gets better and better as it goes along.

  23. stangerx says:

Whole lot better than making it rain at Teasers.

“Solomon Kindley recently donated 66 laptops (22 apiece) to three separate schools in his old stomping grounds — equalling his football number with the Dolphins.”

  24. pheloniusphish says:

Cav – I’ll check out Banshee. Just started re-bingeing strike back since I was two or three seasons behind.

  25. stangerx says:

Was thinking about the draft when it comes to the D in the old school meed/want/possible upgrade/set way. D was pretty darn good last year and believe Elandon Roberts is the only notable guy in FA. And he’s not too notable…. could easily be resigned or replaced by a low-to-mid-level FA.

Everyone on D is in the possible upgrade or set categories. Doesn’t mean we won’t go for a talent upgrade, but we don’t have to either. Could go all O up top, even if realize say an edge force would be nice to have.

    • steveccnv says:

I could see LB or Edge with the top 4 picks, but this should be mostly a playmaker draft at the top.

Would be nice to trade down and have 3 1sts and take Pitts, Najee and a WR, maybe Waddle.

      • stangerx says:

I’ m always for trade down, and especially this year. But it has to be there. And for sure we could take a D player up top….. but we don’t have too. Could see 2 WRs, C and RB as our first 4.

  26. bailbondmike says:

Man, that Whitney Houston rendition of the National Anthem still chokes me up to this day.

  27. bailbondmike says:

Way to turn the SB pregame political Joe Biden. Let’s play the blame game, point fingers and cause more division.

  28. Ken says:

I have so little interest in this game

  29. OD, that storm was wild, kept me awake most of the night also

hopefully this is Bradys last game, i predict he will go out in a sea of turnovers,,,,

  30. Mike E. says:

BBM – I missed it. What did our President say? Who did he blame and for what?

  31. crypto is exploding now, everyone gotta get their dogecoins for the SB? lol

  32. Mike E. says:

So BBM, what did he say?

  33. steveccnv says:

The Latest: Biden hopes for fan-filled Super Bowl next year …
35 minutes ago — President Joe Biden says it’s his “hope and expectation” that next year’s Super Bowl can be played in front of a fan-filled stadium. Biden says the NFL title game is “just one of those great American celebrations” and laments “all those house parties, all those things that aren’t happening” because of the coronavirus.

  34. im gonna watch the super bowl, u guys can complain about trump lost if ya want, have fun

    • Ken says:

David I disliked Trump as much as anyone but was it really necessary to stir up shut with BBM for what really looks like no reason

  35. mf13ss says:

    David,

I’d quit while you’re behind, keeping you from getting even further behind, brah. NOT COOL for you to be spiking the ball in the face of so many, especially after the Time Magazine article came out on Friday.

I’d HIGHLY recommend sticking to football, and not just you, sir.

  36. bailbondmike says:

MikeE, The lady interviewing him said, in essence, at the rate we are giving vaccines right now that it will take a year to reach 75% and herd immunity then Biden quickly had to blame the previous administration. Then the lady chimed in on it as well.

I am like, WTF, we are tired of hearing this shit. Tired of hearing excuses. What is your fucking plan to fix it already. That’s what we want to know and hear.

  37. ocalarob says:

    I’m thinking the Bucs

    • stangerx says:

Thinking Chiefs, but also thinking will be high scoring. KC’s offense is high-powered and its D ain’t all that good.

  38. olddolphan says:

CHAMBER OF COMMERCE weather today (since the big storm blew thru just after midnight!).
Hoping to see a close, competitive, game.
    ———————-
PS: IS next year’s Super Bowl at “SCI FI” Stadium in L.A.??

  39. bailbondmike says:

Sorry, y’all. Been a lousy day at work trying to get these bonds done so I can enjoy the game.

I know one guy that won’t be. I just posted bond for this guy who is hosting a SB party at his house. Was cooking and drinking since this morning and decided to go on a run for more alcohol. Got arrested for DUI at 3:45pm. Here in Escambia County, FL there is an automatic 8 hour hold for alcohol related offenses then after 8 hours you have to blow below .05 before you can be released. His hold will be up at 11:45pm and there are no TV’s in the drunk tank. lol

    • mf13ss says:

All good, BBM. I just don’t care for a certain type of political ideology to ‘spike the ball’ in anybody’s face. I hope you enjoy the game!

    • stangerx says:

That’s just so wrong in so many ways….. starting with a reason you have a superbowl party is to call up your buddies to pick stuff up on the way in.

  40. ocalarob says:

i was in tampa today looking at a 75 vette, it looked to be in great shape for $7500, after closely looking at it i noticed a problem with the mrgin between the front cap and door, looked to be crashed and repaired, i wouldn’t worry about it being crashed but i could tell that the frame was bent. i knew it was too good to be true.

  41. Mike E. says:

Stanger – the vaccine rate is going up and will continue to as more pharmaceutical companies introduce their own vaccines to the market. It has nothing to with Biden and he has no plan on what to do, he admitted that himself

  42. Mike E. says:

Stanger, yes, just reaffirming that so it’s understood by all

  43. The Flying Pig says:

    This game is pretty boring

  44. The Flying Pig says:

Does anyone know how old Tom Brady is?

They haven’t mentioned it a dozen times or anything….

  45. bailbondmike says:

A few ticky tac defensive holding calls on KC.

  46. Mike E. says:

    LMAO Piggy, that’s funny

  47. steveccnv says:

    Those TOs were Reidtarded

  48. steveccnv says:

    This game is fixed

  49. Mike E. says:

Calls always go the Brady way

  50. Ken says:

KC killing them selves with stupid penalties. Gotta think that accident this week is a distraction especially to coaching staff

  51. manitobafinfan says:

As a Canadian I feel I Must apologize for this piss poor 1/2 time performance

  52. olddolphan says:

MANITOBA: I STRONGLY AGREE with your opinion of the half time show. IT TOTALLY SUCKED!!
BTW, did “WEAK END” use U.S. dollars to fund $7 million of the cost of this drivel, or did he use Canadian dollars? Either way, he didn’t come close to getting his money’s worth!!
    ———————
KC MUST SCORE ON their first drive. If not, a lot of TV’s will be turned off for the night.

  53. Mike E. says:

My friend said this was the first time in his life he was happy the weekend was over

  54. herdfan says:

Halftime was awful. Game isn’t much better.

My wife comes into the garage laughing.
    Me – what’s up?
Wife – didn’t you watch halftime?
    Me – Hell no
Wife – they had jock straps on their heads!
    Me – Sounds about right

    SMH

  56. The Flying Pig says:

    This is all bookmans fault

  57. The Flying Pig says:

There was this little Piggy you guys know that wanted to draft Winfield

  58. mf13ss says:

MR. RANDY CAMPBELL was correct… the KC O-Line was decimated, going into this game. I’d heard reports over the last week that the remainder of the KC O-Line were practicing at EVERY O-Line position… backup Tackles were practicing as Guards and Centers, and vice-versa.

THAT is why the Chiefs have only 3 field goals to show on Offense right now.

Where is Mahomes? Their O-Line is DECIMATED!

  59. New Age says:

So far…my favorite Superbowl in years. I guess certain people here will be asking for KC to unload that turd Patty Mahomes off tomorrow if he can’t pull it out.

  60. Mike E. says:

Reminds me a little of our Superbowl loss to the Niners

  61. bookman11 says:

Pig, why is this my fault, because I was glad Tampa beat GreenBay?

  62. mf13ss says:

  63. New Age says:

All year long teams have been allowed to hold without penalty. This game shows what the NFL would have looked like with actual ref calls.

  64. Tim Knight says:

    Ugh!!!

  65. bailbondmike says:

I turned TV to Shark Tank at 9.

  66. Phindog says:

Breaking news. KC front runners to land Deshawn Watson who’s team would’ve got the 3rd overall pick. 😆🐕🥃🥃

  67. Tim Knight says:

This game makes me want to draft Penei Sewell.

  68. bailbondmike says:

I would trade Tua, our #3, and next years 1st for Mahomes. lol

  69. bailbondmike says:

I know many like Penei Sewell but as far as OT’s go I like that beast from VT also.

  70. Tim Knight says:

This game just showed no matter how much firepower you have on offense, if you can’t block it you don’t score.

  71. bailbondmike says:

    Tims 2021 mock draft:

    3 Penei Sewell T • Oregon
    18 Christian Darrisaw T • Virginia Tech
    35 Wyatt Davis G • Ohio State
    50 Landon Dickerson C • Alabama
81 Michael Carter HB • North Carolina
123 Patrick Jones II ED • Pittsburgh
    203 Richard LeCounte S • Georgia
210 Marquez Stevenson WR • Houston
217 Tarron Jackson ED • Coastal Carolina

  72. Randy says:

I asked my daughter what the hell the Weekend was. She said sort of a rapper who sings. I said that’s not possible. She told me to give him a chance. Why do I listen to my daughter when it comes to music?

  73. ocalarob says:

What do you call 47 millionaires sitting around watching the superbowl?

  74. pheloniusphish says:

I have to admit that I only watched the game in passing. Discovered that I have a hot single neighbor and that took up most of my attention. Is that bad?

  75. steveccnv says:

Worst played SB in history for a losing team, even the Chargers had some fight in them at the end, in their lone appearance in the 90s

  76. steveccnv says:

The Chiefs and Packers both had decimated OLs and the Bucs took advantage of it. I’m sure we’ll still see these articles out in the coming days about the new blueprint to winning an SB.

With that said, we need to make sure our OL is solid going forward, with capable depth. No to Penei, but yes at 3rd round help

  77. Mike E. says:

“Patty Mahomes looked gayer than usual.” Maybe you’re watching him too closely, watch the game Steve. lol

  78. stangerx says:

Pretty sure the Evil Genius was rooting for the Chiefs last night.
Not as sure about the brains behind the Belichick operation.

Maybe talking to your neighbor turns into stalking in your world. Seems possible since you’re the weirdo who considers taking a dump in a dressing room entertainment. And…well…moo…
    ——————-
LMAO. Not sure if stalking a hot looking neighbor is weirder than asking your neighbor if you can have his baby cow. Just saying

    • Mike E. says:

To be fair, I don’t believe David solicited his neighbor for the cow, I think the cow was given freely to wed by his neighbor.

    • stangerx says:

Who’d have thought this is how the pieces fit
You and I shouldn’t even trying making sense of it
I forgot how we ever come this far
I believe we had reasons but I don’t where they are
So blame it on my heart, oh
      Love moves in mysterious ways
Its always so surprising how love appears over the horizon
I’ll love you for the rest of my days but still it’s a mystery
Of how you ever came to me which only proves
      Love moves in mysterious ways
      —————–
      Love happens

  80. stangerx says:

And Phelon — hot neighbor a very good thing. Hold a cook out when you get a chance.

  81. CavalierKong says:

The Chiefs tackles being out changed the way this game played out (probably). The bucs got pressure all game long with just their front 4. There was a point late in the 4th quarter the announcers pointed out the Bucs blitzed just 5 times all game.

Oh, and Brady elevates his entire team. He’s unreal, and I’m glad he’ll spend the next 20 years of his career playing in the NFC.

    • Tim Knight says:

It looked to me that the Bucs defense blitzed a lot early then backed off once they had a solid lead. The Bucs LBs are really friggin good. They can blitz, play the run and cover.

      • CavalierKong says:

It looked like that because they were in the backfield all game, but they only blitzed 5 times.

    • steveccnv says:

Yeah, Brady elevates his teammates…by holding them accountable.

Surely the game was decided by the tackles not playing, but WTF was with the punter? And Reidtard calling TOs at the end of the half?

      • CavalierKong says:

LOL, we were having some good laughs at the punter’s expense. I think they siad he’d only punted twice in the entire playoffs…it sure looked like it, lol.

I think those TOs that led to another Bucs TD were a real backbreaker. If it’s one of the great QBs on the other side, you don’t freakin’ give them extra time in the last 2 minutes. Horrible decision by Reid, and pretty much the whole planet saw that TD coming.

    • stangerx says:

Cav — when you can get pressure and stop the run without blitzes….. you are going to win the game.

      • CavalierKong says:

        Yep, full stop.

That Bucs D reminded me of the Giants against the undefeated Pets. Pressure all game with the front 4, played coverage on the backend, the Chiefs couldn’t get anything over the top, and couldn’t sustain drives because every possession would have a sack or negative play the Chiefs just couldn’t overcome.

The game played out pretty much the same way as that game too from the Chiefs point of view. The only difference was the Bucs put up points to seal the game early, whereas the Giants had to work until the end.

      • stangerx says:

Giants D in the Superbowl is a good comparison, cept that game Brady was on the other side of it.

  82. CavalierKong says:

Phel, at my house, we pretty much all agreed this was one of the most unremarkable and boring Super Bowl’s we’d ever seen. That was right before the streaker made it on camera.

We then pretty much all agreed the streaker had the best play of the game, because he actually made it on camera which hadn’t happened in my memory in a Super Bowl.

  83. stangerx says:

CBS turned away from the dude who ran on the field, but one one of the radio announcers decided to make a football play call out of it…… just too funny.

  84. Krishna says:

The most exciting part of the game (and most delusional for me) was hoping the Bucs in the redzone with a first down would score a TD to give them 35 to give me a 5 to match with the KC 9. Fuck!

Two terrible passes and a snap over Brady’s head. WTF?

  85. Mike E. says:

Stanger, sure it’s not a square filled with squares?

  86. Krishna says:

    I bought a box in a square and lost…lol.

    Whatever.

  87. Krishna says:

So what do say? I played a box or a bought a box (hmm) in a square? Educate me.

  90. Tim Knight says:

A square is when you’re in a public bathroom and you ask the person in the next stall can you spare a square. LOL

  91. Tim Knight says:

    • Mike E. says:

Not commenting or giving a slant to the story but did you hear what happened with Brian Monzo, who is a producer on WFAN radio?

      • Tim Knight says:

He’s unhappy with the Mets offseason, especially regarding free agency. He tweeted something to the effect of “No Realmuto, No Bauer, No Springer, Same old Mets” Mets pitcher Msrcus Stroman responded with something like we traded for Lindor and Carrasco, we picked up Brian McCann. What do you want? Some other guy tweets to Stroman and Monzo, “All you need to know is he’s a Trump supporter”. Stroman comes back with “You know, I was getting a white supremacist vibe from him”, Boomer and Gio were really mad about it. Monzo is supposedly a real nice guy who has 7 schildren and his twitter profile pic is him in a Mickey Mouse shirt at Disney.
