2021 Position Outlook – LB

The Miami Dolphins defense made a resurgence in 2020. Some of its success was due to better play at LB, and no one player benefited from the improvements we made on defense as our own drafted LB #55 Jerome Baker. Baker had his finest season and has become one of the leaders on this defense. His signature season featured 112 tackles, 7 sacks, 7 TFL, 11 QB hits, 3 passes defensed and 2 forced fumbles. Bringing in FA’s Kyle Van Noy, Elandon Roberts, and also the big guys like Emmanuel Ogbah, Zach Sieler and Shaq Lawson and the emergence of Andrew Van Ginkel allowed Jerome Baker to be what we had hoped he could be, a playmaking LB who made plays in every facet of the defense. One could easily say if we had one more guy like #55, our defense could be elite, and it’s hard to argue. Although our secondary is the first unit you think of when you think of dominance, I feel like our front 7 aren’t far away. By the end of the season, the rotation of Wilkins, Davis, Seiler, Ogbah, and the LB’s Van Noy, Baker, Lawson, Van Ginkel, Roberts were a very solid group. Before the season finale in which we got stampeded by the Bills offense, this was a legitimate defense. Both Elandon Roberts and Kamu Grugier-Hill were one year contracts, so we have to add a LB or two either in the draft or free agency.

For the 2021 NFL Draft, there are a few LB’s that could help our team right away. The first one hails from Linebacker University (Penn St) and is the top LB prospect in this draft, Micah Parson. Big, 6’3 245 and rangy, and with excellent speed and can run sideline to sideline and cover running backs and tight ends. He really is a talented LB, one that could eventually transform our defense along with Jerome Baker. While Elandon Roberts was a run game thumper, Parsons could be that and do everything Baker can. If you liked Super Bowl linebackers Lavonte David (6’1 233) and Devin White(6’0 237), we could have that with size with Parsons (6’3 245) and Baker (6’2 230).

Another very good prospect is Tulsa LB Zaven Collins. Where Parsons could play any of the LB spots in our defense, Collins is more than likely going to play outside. Collins is big, bigger even than Parsons at 6’4 260. Collins is better in pass coverage than rushing the passer as he has just average burst. He has good speed, but not elite speed. He does have excellent length and can cover tight ends. He would need to improve his pass rush, as many prospects do. He’s a possible target and should be available at our 2nd pick if we stay at #3 and #18.

If we want to draft a LB much like the aforementioned Super Bowl Bucs LB’s Devin White and Lavonte David, that would be Missouri LB Nick Bolton. Bolton is a little smallish, especially when compared to either Parsons or Collins, but he can play. Bolton is 6’0 232, and is very fast and explosive like the two Bucs linebackers. He has the speed to also run sideline to sideline is a reliable tackler. Where Bolton struggles however, is in coverage. The instincts that serve him well in his run defense haven’t yet been developed in pass coverage. Still, he has the athleticism to become a 3 down backer.

If we’re looking for an OLB/Pass rusher, look no further than Texas’ Joseph Ossai. Ossai is a bona fide pass rushing LB. What’s more is that he is a very high effort guy, plays full out all the time. He has the size (6’4 253) and speed to be a perfect fit as a 3-4 OLB. Ossai was able to increase his statistical totals playing in only 9 games in 2020 as compared to 13 games in 2019. He compiled 55 tackles, 15.5 tackles behind the LOS which is 2 more than the previous season in 4 less games. He also topped his 2019 in sacks with 5.5 over his 5 in 2019, again, in 4 less games, also adding 3 FF’s.

There are many prospects that will be interesting but those are the guys that I feel can make an immediate impact. Another undersized player who can play multiple positions including LB and safety is Jeremiah Owusu. He’s 6’1 215 and has legit speed and explosiveness. Another interesting prospect later on is former Florida Gator and UAB transfer Jordan Smith. Smith got caught up in the alleged credit card scandal in Florida and transferred to UAB. He is raw, but shows potential as a pass rusher with great length 6’7 255. He’s also a good for fit for a 3-4 OLB pass rushing LB. He is definitely a project though, and would be probably be 3rd-4th RD pick. Let me know who you guys like, I know y’all have your favorites.

GO DOLPHINS 2021!!!

  3. CavalierKong says:

Tucker has done it for years, and is definitely worth top $$$. We don’t have enough data to know if Sanders will be a top 3 kicker every year like he showed last year, but it looks promising. He was very good his 1st year, average his 2nd, and fantastic last year.

Having a reliable kicker is a keystone element IMO. With Tucker at 5+ mil, just over 4 mil a year is a nice deal for the Fins if Sanders stays at the top of his game.

  4. steveccnv says:

I think too much is made about guys sitting out a year.

Would you rather have a guy that got hurt in game 1 the previous year and basically was out the entire year and has to also deal with the injury?

Lots of those types of guys have come back and performed pretty good.

Someone like Chase or Parsons have likely been working out all year gearing up for the draft, and are more like professionals, than college guys

Rock, WTF! Why you have to throw logic into my rant. lol

    • Rockphin says:

LOL I would NEVER! LOL I was referring to the Natural Gas power generation plants that are down right now in TX. It’s not just wind power and solar that is down Ihaven’t hear the exact “why” but the news was reporting that the natural gas power plants were down due to the cold to.

Those damn liberals have really messed up the state of Texas…..EYEROLL

The desire to profit is the leading issue with not upgrading the power grid (not just in Texas) In the case of Texas the state runs the power grid as a for profit enterprise so it isn’t a problem of Communism vs Capitalism it is a problem of “mismanagement”

Used quotation marks for a reason. If they didn’t spend the money to upgrade the grid and systems and this cold snap never happened would it have been a problem? Flip it. Say they did spend 10’s or 100’s of millions to “winter proof” the system and this occurrence didn’t happen would that have been wasteful and irresponsible use of the money? ?

The Fat Tuesday’s picture in my head is quite colorful and involves spinning liquid

What is spinning liguid? My Mardi Gras memories include floats, crowds, beads, boobs and whippets (they were sold legal). But yeah my head was spinning. 🙂

      • stangerx says:

I’m more a Jazz Fest guy now. We were there for it like 4 years ago. No doubt what you want to do in college though. And Key West gotta be Fantasy Fest. Least once.

  7. mf13ss says:

I’m going over WR film of the top-3: Chase, DaVonta, and Waddle. I don’t think we could go wrong with any of the three. There are pros and cons with all three (naturally), but they are all solid.

Chase is the tallest and has the most compact build, but he opted out in ’20 and has zero experience with southpaw Tua. However, he’s a boundary WR to be sure. He set major SEC records in ’19 with Joe Burrow as his QB.

DaVonta is the slightest of build and thus has durability concerns at the next level, but the guy is the cleanest route-runner in years, he turns on a needle, and he has major familiarity with southpaw Tua. Reminds me of an elite Davone Bess, but he’s probably not going to be a boundary WR in the NFL. Do we need another slot WR? But dammit, he’s a YAC machine like Albert Wilson. He broke some of Chase’s ’19 SEC WR records, to boot.

Waddle is the fastest of the three, and probably the most unsung of the three. He can probably take the top off of Defenses better than Chase or DaVonta, but he’s sleight of build as well… just not to the tune of DaVonta. And like DaVonta, he’s got familiarity with southpaw Tua. Some feel that if he hadn’t broken his ankle this past season, HE would have won the Heisman Trophy over DaVonta.

I dunno… either of the three will do for me, but I’d have to give a slight edge to Chase due to his build.

    • mf13ss says:

And when it comes down to it, I’d have to give the edge to Penei Sewell as being our BPA @ R1P3. NO WAY do we take one of the above mentioned WRs @ R1P3 over Penei. A tradedown should be in order if we pass on Penei.

      • mf13ss says:

Bottom line: if we want Penei Sewell, he’s OURS @ R1P3.

My question: if we want the ball to be out of Tua’s hands in 2.x seconds, do we really need an ELITE Tackle? The Patriots had much success with Tom Brady, without ELITE Tackles on their roster.

Second take: if Penei can help rejuvenate our running game (not to mention protecting Tua… yes, he’s played RT in the past), why not take him?

Third take: if we can keep getting future picks while getting better under Coach Flores, why wouldn’t we trade down from R1P3, passing on Penei?

These are the questions that keep me up at night.

      • stangerx says:

Think Sewell will be the most value. But then #3 is OT, QB, DB and DE territory for a reason.

    • The Flying Pig says:

I think we can’t miss with any of the 3

Chase is my favorite, but I’m not shedding a tear if we end up with the other two

The only other pick other than those 3 WRs that makes sense at 3 is Sewell

That’s why a trade down where you still can land one of those big 3 WRs is probably ideal

  8. CavalierKong says:

Sanders cap hit for 2021 goes from 1 mil to 1.6 mil. So we get him signed and it doesn’t impact our 2021 cap situation at all. Nice

    • mf13ss says:

I applaud the re-signing. Happy for Jason Sanders, too.

      • CavalierKong says:

One less thing to worry about. Those Pets teams over the last 20 years, they had Vinatieri forever followed by Gostkowski forever, and those guys were money.

Sanders should be that guy for us. And it’s nice to grow some talent at home and sign it long term instead of letting it go like we so often have in the past.

It may seem like a no-brainer we signed him, but in the NFL nothing can be taken for granted, so kudos to the Fins for getting it done early and well.

Do it all the time… charcoal, of course.

  11. Rockphin says:

Keep in mind that many teams best pass rusher lines up across from the LT and DO NOT switch sides to attack the blind side of THE ONLY left hand QB starter in the league. We need a good LT even though out QB’s blind side is on the right. The best pass rushers are most likely going to come against the LT anyway because that is where their best RDE or ROLB naturally lines up.

    —————–
Yessir. We have control over a valuable commodity @ R1P3. What we do with that pick is going to be interesting.

  15. stangerx says:

If we don’t take DeVonta Smith at #3 where does he get taken?

  16. mf13ss says:

Wish I could be in the Phins ‘War Room’ on Draft Day 2021, as the Bengals plead for us to surrender our R1P3 to them, so they can get Penei to protect Joe Burrow. I’d squeeze them for every ounce of draft compensation we can get, even though they pick a mere two selections after us.

I honestly believe that THAT’S where things are going.

GM M13: “Oh yeah, Bengals? You want Penei that badly? Give me your 2022 1st rounder OR your 2nd and 3rd this year, and we can talk… I’ve got Philly on the other line, ya know…”

    • mf13ss says:

And we’d obviously get better compensation from Philly (R1P6) than the Bengals (R1P5). Philly NEEDS to protect their QB, whether it be Wentz or Hurts, going forward.

    • stangerx says:

Think that trade would only cost them their 2nd round pick, but sure would be nice to have it and DeVonta Smith.

      • mf13ss says:

What we hope for is a bidding-war between two or more teams within the top-10 for Penei Sewell, driving our compensation higher. And YES(!), it would be nice to come away with DeVonta when it’s all said and done.

JACKSON, S.C. (AP) — A man accused of attacking a South Carolina couple inside their home ended up dead after being bludgeoned to the floor by the 82-year-old husband.

The couple told the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office that a man came to their door Monday afternoon and forced his way into the home, attacking them with a knife. The assailant cut the 79-year-old wife on her forehead.

The woman’s husband stopped the attack by repeatedly striking the intruder with the butt of a gun. When deputies arrived at the home, they found the suspect on the floor, bloody and unresponsive. The suspected intruder died Monday night at a hospital

LMAO! Typical extreme right-wing media lies about Texas energy.

Since only 13 % of TX energy comes from green sources, I wonder how that can be remotely true. Oh yeah, cult thought! I forgot.

The reason, for those who care to know the truth, TX can’t heat and provide power to TX is because the TX grid is antiquated and the natural gas and electical power controls are frozen, includimg some nuclear facilities. Be real, 87% of TX power is “frozen” due to stupidity, poor planning, and antiquated power sources.

Kinda like blaming Antifa dressed in costumes wearing MAGA hats and storming the capitol. LMAO! Goons, imo. So give them military weapons next time so they won’t have to bring zip ties and stun guns and have to build their own gallows. ARs are perfect for storming the capitol, I think?

LMAO, blaming Biden for TX energy woes, a state with its own power grid under 20+ years of Republican control, after being in office for less than a month. The prejudice is more than obvious.

A big beautiful NEON display of typical right-wing lies and conspiracy theories.

Some comic relief, i guess because of the stupidity, but mostly sadness.

    • wow, they mock the deaths to make a deceitful political point? SMH

  30. hang in there Krishna, said a prayer for You guys out there

but no internet sounds horrific, not sure if i could recover from that , lol

  31. i see what u are saying krishna,
Texas Gov. Abbott blames solar and wind for the blackouts in his state and says “this shows how the Green New Deal would be a deadly deal for the United States of America”

unbelievable the deceitful idiot wants to destroy the environment, and who does he think he can fool? everyone knows Houston was hit the worst, and Houston has more oil than any other city in the US

they thought dragging women through caves was high tech

Look over there! God forbid you don’t believe oil and gas have no control of pricing.

Not on topic, again. Lmao, so you think it’s the green new deal that doesn’t exist?

    • Krishna says:

Can’t wait to hear your informed opinion on TX energy, its grid, its failures, and why it is where it is today. Thanks in advance. Please enlighten me.

      • Mike E. says:

Krishna – I have no opinion nor will I make any comment on what’s going on there. How could I possibly know what’s really going on there? I can just tell you what’s going on right outside my door, and I’m concerned about gas prices going through the roof.

      • Mike E. says:

On that same token Krishna, I’d love for you to tell me it’s not Biden’s fault that gas prices are soaring . . . You have to have balance. America has a shit ton of gas powered vehicles, people heat their homes with oil, you can’t just pull the plug on gas and oil, you just can’t do it that way.

      • Krishna says:

Ok, so you changed the subject.

Look at my first post for the topic.

17 cents is not going through the roof, by the way, which is a completely different topic. Oil and gas industry set pricing for BILLION dollar net income business. Completely, diiferent topic.

  34. Krishna says:

Gov Abbott, stating renewable energy accounts for just ovet 10% of energy in TX and blames lack of statewide power on that.

Fucking laughable that 90% bears no responsibility. Believe what you will!

  35. Mike, we can all expect much higher gas after this storm helped to shut down the oil refineries

its past time to be reliant on ancient, dirty technology, and subject to OPECs whims and decisions

alternative energy is MUCH cheaper and cleaner, and will replace oil within 20 years or so

  36. Mike, its NOT Bidens fault, do some research o n it
oil is NOT American, its international

Oil prices rise to near 1-year highs as vaccines, stimulus and Saudi Arabian production cuts lift the energy outlook. Brent and WTI crude oil prices rose on Wednesday, approaching 1-year highs as investors bet stimulus and vaccines would fuel an economic recovery.Jan 13, 2021

    • Mike E. says:

It’s AMERICAN when we get it from our country! If you stop the process that allows us to be independent, that’s Un-AMERICAN!

  37. Krishna says:

Let’s just start with truth. Is that fucking possible here?

    It’s fucking cold in TX.

Power grid 10-13% renewable, 87-90% fossil fuels and gas.

It’s not working right now. Why?

Let’s not blame anyone. We can find out why and start providing solutions to fix it.

    Is that a possible approach/start?

    • New Age says:

They fucked up and didn’t prepare for a super storm. You’re right it wasn’t renewables fault. I still think it’s idiotic we use wind and solar when nuclear is the best energy man has ever found.

Going with that thought, what are your thoughts on nuclear and the ridiculous bureaucracy that keeps us from having nice stuff?

Krishna – You asked me to comment on something I have no clue about, so I won’t do it. I didn’t change the subject, I commented on something I do know about which affects me, is that OK? Now, 17 cents in 30 days isn’t nothing, it’s bad, and it’s just the start. If you want me to change the subject, here’s one for ya, y’all outraged over Gov Cuomo killing thousands and then covering it up, all the while on a book tour across the country like a Nobel Peace Prize Winner because of his great work of the handling of the COVID-19 crisis?

    • New Age says:

The gas prices and Cuomo bother me too but I’ll cover that topic with Krishna because I do know about it. They did fuck up and hopefully they do some winterizing next year. It was a super rare storm but they still fucked up. We need nuclear.

    • Krishna says:

Then, why did interject on a topic you know nothing about (self-admitted) and try to change it with a snarky comment? Sorry, Mike E., that’s all on you.

  40. New Age says:

    Mike,

You know what’s hilarious? Newsome wants California to be 100% EV (electric Vehicle) by 2035 and they can’t keep the lights on now very well. How can you force electric cars on me if you can’t provide me electricity now with less demand? Complete idiocy but it sounds good to a certain segment of simple people.

    • Krishna says:

Funny how the power grid on the west coast provided all the power El Paso, TX needed, only TX city NOT on TX power grid. 12 lost power. 12.

      • New Age says:

Ok, in a once in a century super storm they did. Do you want to see how often they are out of power?

    • steveccnv says:

Nothing they do makes any logical sense, that’s how I know it isn’t the end goal.

Obamacare was setup to fail, that’s why no one on the left read it before passing it, it was setup to transition to single payer after hilllary got in.

Renewable energy is the same way, just look at CA, its setup so we aren’t energy dependent, something China and other enemies of ours love to see.

      • New Age says:

I agree. The bad thing is it directly affects the poor people the most which they seem to want to help but rarely do. Just like defunding the police, and all of their other programs outside of free money for votes. That’s all they care about, keep me in power.

      • steveccnv says:

They don’t want to help poor people, they want to control them. They use slogans like blm to act like they care, but if they did it would be for all black lives, not just those shot by cops.

These people are evil and greedy. Some day we’ll see an entire season on American Greed dedicated to these evil and corrupt politicians.

      • New Age says:

I agree and it’s not just on one side. I’m a independent. I just want politicians that care about Americans and it’s almost impossible to find. Term limits needs to be the big issue for all Americans. Get these greedy turds out.

  41. steveccnv says:

I was using Biden’s logic, if he can claim 120k covid deaths are Trump’s fault, then he gets the blame here.

When the right says anything about what the left did, Bidens in bed with China or Ukraine, its either Russian disinformation or a conspiracy, but when the left says something about the right or Trump its fact.

    • New Age says:

We are having the highest death rates at this time of year than at any point last year. I guess we can blame Biden for fucking it up, right? On Feb 4th we had about 2000 more deaths than 9/11. Over 5,000 at Biden’s feet. I still don’t see anyone wanting Cuomo to go to jail for being the primary cause of thousands of deaths. How does that work?

    • Krishna says:

Bullshit steveccnv….you were spreading right-wing conspiracy theory lies and i called you out on it. Period.

  42. The Flying Pig says:

The biggest factor in gas prices is the price of crude oil

The members of OPEC agreed last September to cut production in hopes of raising prices

    Why?

It wasn’t politics, there were dramatic global reductions in oil consumption through most of 2020 based on global shutdowns. They are trying to make their money back by driving up the price of oil.

OPEC has the power to do that. It’s a powerful intentional organization. And this isn’t the first time they’ve done it.

    https://www.eia.gov/todayinenergy/detail.php?id=45236

    • New Age says:

True., they are powerful Do they have more power over our prices when we are energy dependent or not? I remember them shutting production to try and ruin our shale miners a few years ago but it still not affecting prices too much. We are the largest supplier on Earth. We can also affect the market.

      • The Flying Pig says:

Why wouldn’t private American companies want to do the same?

They have to make their money back too

American Oil isn’t antagonistic to OPEC, they have the same exact interest

      • New Age says:

I’d say they would but that’s when we provide net benefits to anyone willing to push out more shale. It’s just like the airline or defense industries or other industries we try to get benefits from Sweeten the pot.

      • The Flying Pig says:

I’m pretty sure OPEC’s actions are just temporary, to make up for lost profits

It will shift black on its own based on basic economic principles

But it’s a good indication of what happens next. The cost of many other things are going to go up. People have to make up for losses for 2020

The it will go back down or stabilize

  43. Krishna says:

It’s hard to keep up with your distractions, Mike E. We go from lies coming from the TX gov about the cause of power failure in TX (the topic raised to point at stupid shit from steveccnv), to 17cents, to Cuomo, to Covid….

Do we talk about the 500,000 who have died on Trump’s watch and the poor solutions to the testing and distribution plan under his watch allowing for deaths. Not sure how that’s on topic. Geez, looueez.

I’m out, if we can’t talk about the issue raised. So sad.

    • New Age says:

      Krishna,

I’m willing to talk about it. What’s your thoughts on nuclear? Or, have you seen how much land most renewables use to provide similar energy levels? We already know they fucked up and can fix it but let’s go into future energy issues.

      • steveccnv says:

They don’t want to talk, they want to preach, like everyone on the left. They’ve got all the answers that don’t make any sense. That by the way is how Judge Judy knows when someone is lying, it doesn’t make any sense.

      • Krishna says:

Not sure where the preacher is any of this except you might need one for preaching and spreading lies. Your lie is documented and i called you out on it. PREACH AWAY, BABY!

      • steveccnv says:

        Into yourself lately?

      • steveccnv says:

Twain was right, it’s easier to fool someone, than convince them they’ve been fooled

  44. Krishna says:

New Age, I’m not opposed to safe nuclear energy.

Why are you opposed to wind or solar farms living in a desert or typically in remote areas? Hundreds of square miles, perhaps thousands or more of vast remote areas?

    • Krishna says:

I do think about 3 mile island, Chernobyl, and i believe Japan have had major “accidents”.

The Chernobyl weed i had was awesome. Wish they would call it, Wasteland. Chernobyl connotes horror vs out-of-mind. Lol.

  45. steveccnv says:

This offseason also is expected to bring unprecedented movement in the wide receiver market, with several among the top 50 unrestricted free agents, including Allen Robinson, Kenny Golladay, Chris Godwin and JuJu Smith-Schuster.
    ESPN

When these guys don’t get the fat contracts they’re expecting ESPN will say it’s collusion, instead of the cap went down or the depth of WRs in the draft.

    • The Flying Pig says:

They are all going to be expensive

The only one worth paying a lot too is Robinson

I know a lot of people like the other names, but when you pay for receivers on the open market, you pay top 5 money if they are top 50

I think we are better off sticking it out with some vets like Parker and bringing in you guys

Maybe we can get a less expensive vet on the market like a Marvin Jones

    • steveccnv says:

When no one is paying them the price will drop

  46. Krishna says:

There’s no excuse, imo, in this country why any of power grids should ever fail. Modernize and plan for the extremes.

Oil and gas and power grid have failed TX.

But, let’s look somewhere else. The TX situation seems to me to be an example of the problem on the national level.

    • New Age says:

I completely agree they should never fail. Texas really fucked up. That’s what upsets me about California. Richest state in the union and they have power issues at least several times every year. How?!

Put that shit in your own backyard!
Let’s add some wolves and a Grizzly or 2 for good measure

  48. Krishna says:

Lol….not sure what means. Not many grizzlies in the desert that i know of nor in the remote plains. Who knew? Seriously?

Give me a pipeline and toxic gases spewing in my community. Keep that shit out of my backyard. Lmao!

  49. Rockphin says:

I think the ignorance on here is hilarious sometimes. With somebody complaining about the pipeline? You mean the pipeline from Alberta Canada!!?? The pipeline for Canadian oil!?!? That pipeline? We better all protest to protect that fucking Canadian oil.

  50. New Age says:

Krishna, I’m not totally opposed to renewables just think nuclear is better. I am a bit worried about environmental impact with birds and possibly other ways. It just seems so inefficient. I also wonder if solar panel toxicity will eventually become a big deal if we make it more common. Neither completely makes the tech bad tho.

  51. steveccnv says:

The worst nuclear disaster in history caused all of 28 deaths and this is somehow proof that nuclear power plants must be banned. Design flaws and bad planning caused the problems. problems. The 14 deaths in TX mean nothing though, because it’s the kind of energy these fear mongers make the most money with.

Most people say fool me once shame on you…others say to their leaders fool me once, don’t worry we still have your back, fool me twice (see fool me once)…

It’s all about money and power, get a clue, they don’t care about you.

Don’t let a good tragedy go to waste

    • twicethethe says:

And made towns and wide swaths of land uninhabitable, and spread nuclear isotopes across Europe. Before anyone says ‘no big deal’, I personally know someone who was born and raised in Ukraine not too far from there who had childhood Thyroid cancer which is very likely attributable to that incident.

      • steveccnv says:

Yeah there were other issues too, but instead of fixing them they just abandoned nuclear power. With this logic why not do that for every source of energy that has had issues? Because someone is getting filthy rich with them.

  52. ocalarob says:

OMG!, 6 more months of this shit!

  53. New Age says:

    Piggy,

Going back to OPEC, that is a fair estimation of what will happen but doesn’t that really suck for poor people? Everything will go up which hits them hardest just so that OPEC ‘gets theirs’? Didn’t everyone lose out from COVID? Most won’t get hardly anything back so why should OPEC? Prices also rarely go back down afterwards. Not until businesses ‘get back theirs’ or is forced due to low sales. All this due to OPEC getting some makeup. Shouldn’t our elected politicians push against this tho? Use our top supplier status for us?

    • one huge reason to go alternative energy is to tell Opec we dont need them anymore

dubai has enough of our money, dont want to give them any more

      • steveccnv says:

Included in that should be all types of energy.

If we want to weed out some of the dirtier ones ok by me, but not at the expense of being energy independent.

    • The Flying Pig says:

It does suck for everyone buying gas

But it’s temporary – it’s not sustainable to lower production to increase prices
Part of why they lowered production is bc no one is buying what they are selling, bc the consumption wasn’t there in 2020

They make more money with increased production at lower prices, they just lost that option when the market dried up

The way I phrased it earlier sounds manipulative, and in fact OPEC has been doing this for half a century, but their is some really natural economic causation

They aren’t setting prices, they are lowering production bc the demand has decreased. So that is a situation when prices drop back down when production increases again.

When the demand is back, they can increase production and then the prices will fall. They just had to coordinate it with the other member nations, but I think domestically our own oil companies do the same

It’s probably best for our own govt to take a back seat on this one and let it follow its natural course. That’s a judgment call but I think the cause and effect is right there for everyone to see, and it’s a matter of time before it corrects itself without interference

By 2023, I doubt it’s an issue. That’s just my guess.

That doesn’t make it suck any less, but not making it worse should be the number one priority. If we do something to stimulate the market to get temporary relief, it might backfire and cause OPEC to be really aggressive causing a longer problem.

  54. the fearmongering of solar is not justified by reality

dont think it works? then why are the utility companies putting panels up? to charge us more annually, they got from the sun? smh

    the rich get richer,,,SMH
, we have the ability to put our OWN panels up, and stick it to the matrix at the same time, saluut, lol

oil is really just a government tool to control wealth and power, the further we get away from it, the more independence we will have in our lives

  55. steveccnv says:

All energy is a govt tool in one way or another, so why use one over the other?

The “clean” energy sources aren’t as clean as you think, but why use windmills over nuclear? We just saw in TX they can be dangerous too.

    • to have cleaner air and water, we all benefit, and to have independence from the government and corporate control

those are awesome reasons to dump oil and coal and go with solar

ever hear of a solar chernobyl? me either

  56. New Age says:

Nuclear can be dangerous but we have 12 super carriers and over 400 nuclear subs operating for decades without an accident. Can we progress if we fear everything? David, lots of studies show wind energy is inefficient and takes up tons of land

    • we cant fear everything, but we can also be smart and efficient, solar has never had a chernobyl meltdown, and never will

and for a fraction of the cost, what does it cost to build a nuclear power plant, and where do we store the radioactive waste? im aware that nuclear provides power, but dont like the cost of it

  57. steveccnv says:

I watched a video yesterday about the top 10 most corrupt states. Florida was 10 and CA wasn’t on the list, because of the way the stats were done, but that’s besides the point.

The point is all states have a lot of convictions of corrupt politicians.

With that said, why are people so Gung ho to get behind a politician, when they know most of them are corrupt or haven’t gotten caught yet?

Right or wrong, Trump supporters are behind him, because he stands to fight corruption. Notice I said right or wrong, so no need to give an opinion on whether he actually stands to fight corruption, this isn’t about being right its just the why.

Maybe we can actually agree on politicians being corrupt and try to figure out why people get behind one group or the other.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ivanpah_Solar_Power_Facility

Saw that from a plane out of LA a couple of years ago and was thinking ‘WTH is that??’.

Every source of energy and energy production has its plusses and minuses. I’m no expert but I’ll be the first to say it seems there’s no easy solution. Fusion is certainly some ways off. I think a mix that trends towards renewables is ideal as technological advances continue to increase on renewables.

Oil and Natural Gas aren’t going to disappear tomorrow – but it will happen eventually. And that’s not a bad thing IMO (unless you directly or indirectly work in those fields).

As for others talking about foreign oil vs domestic oil…well, renewable energy produced in the United States is certainly domestic and always be. Isn’t affected by OPEC price fixing that makes shale/sand oil production not economically viable on the world oil markets either,

  59. The Flying Pig says:

    In case anyone is wondering

There is no shortage of natural pig energy
    🐖💨

    Thunderdome here we come!

  60. twicethethe says:

steveccnv – Fair points on addressing safety shortcomings for Nuclear. I would still have some concerns over security (certainly huge targets for terrorism) and about nuclear waste (some byproducts have half lives of millions of years before they are no longer an issue). There’s also the cost – I also know someone who was directly involved in the building of the Nuclear plants in GA and SC (they worked for Westinghouse) that were abandoned in the middle of construction. They were abandoned because costs had ballooned out of control:

    https://www.governing.com/archive/gov-south-carolina-nuclear-reactors.html

To add all the security and safety features requires a tremendous outlay up front. Sadly, that resulted in billions of dollars lost.

    • steveccnv says:

Russia cut corners and the disaster was a result of that. At 3 mile we had better security measures in place and the effect was minimal in comparison.

Everything leads back to corruption with energy, if we could somehow minimize it, that would be a step in the right direction.

Everyone in business or politics is cheating at something. Why do we look the other way?

Sports is no different, if you aren’t belicheating, then you aren’t trying hard enough.

      • twicethethe says:

I don’t disagree for the most part – the $9 billion lost for nuclear plants that will likely never be completed is mind boggling. But I would say it is as much pure incompetence and laughably poor project management by government as much as anything,

      • steveccnv says:

That goes for everything the govt does, so why would we want them in charge of healthcare or anything that can be done in the private sector?

      • twicethethe says:

I would argue the private sector is as corrupt or moreso than the government. This, plus the tendencies of pure capitalism which can lead to inefficiencies and increased costs that are passed to consumers, can result in highly unequal welfare (especially in healthcare and energy which are vital for all in a modern economy) which is detrimental to the common good.

  61. steveccnv says:

Why are the corrupt for big govt? Because the bigger it is the more money they have access to

    ——

I asked, why are people so Gung ho to get behind a politician, when they know most of them are corrupt or haven’t gotten caught yet?

I explained why I back Trump,, no one on the left ever says why they back the left, that’s why I say you just want to preach. This isn’t the first time I asked.

    • im an American, so of course i oppose Trump, a domestic terrorist leader, who tried to overthrow the US government and murder government officials, while golfing, tweeting, and ignoring covid, except to blame the democrats or trot in witch doctors and fake cures while 450,000 AMericans perished on his mismanaged watch/

      • steveccnv says:

That’s a bunch of lies, and you can’t prove otherwise, but not the question I asked. As usual you guys won’t answer it.

You do know that the left has tried to kill Trump over 20 times? The last being after he left the WH. In hilllary’s emails they found one that she was asking,if we could take Trump out.

    • stangerx says:

Guess what makes it hard for me to answer that Q is that I don’t know most politicians are corrupt, and I spent years working with them. And that goes for left and right, and both parties. Factionalism pissed the heck out of me at times, but then I was a guy trying to pass bills. So yeah it got in the way.

      • steveccnv says:

You’ve been backing the left lately, why?

      • ocalarob says:

How about Biden? you don’t know he’s corrupt? he said on national TV that he was withholding your tax dollars from Ukraine if they didn’t fire the prosecutor who was investigating berisma, a co his son was getting major kickbacks from.
doesn’t that smell like a whorehouse at low tide?

        you’re not sure about that?

how about his son getting money from a China Financial institute owned by the china govt. that doesn’t peak your interest?

how about the money he got from Russia.
how about the whistleblower who said Joe Biden was involved with his son and brothers involvement in the money obtained from these countries?

if you can’t see the corruption you are blind.

I pointed out the Biden corruption specifically, now please point out the Trump corruption, and please don’t throw out unsubstantiated BS like your fellow leftist David.

      • stangerx says:

Except for Pres and my Mayor all my votes in the last 3 elections have gone GOP. How is that backing the left? Lot more votes on the Republican side.

      • stangerx says:

but they ignore trump 450,000 deaths

  68. ocalarob says:

Solar power vs regular electric? no comparison, Solar power is more expensive when you factor in the replacement cost, it also damages your roof as leaves get caught in them and retains water on your shingles degrading them.
i very seldom see a roof with solar panels.

if it was more financially beneficial wouldn’t everyone do it?

    • twicethethe says:

Well with the way FPL keeps successfully lobbying the Florida legislature to make it less financially attractive (net metering, etc.) I’m not surprised.

  69. Mike E. says:

Yep, no one would have died if Biden was President when COVID-19 hit. Trump personally murdered them all. Whoever is dying now is still Trump’s fault, in fact for the next 20 years everything will be Trump’s fault. Feel better?

    • stangerx says:

Obviously we’ll never know what would have happened if Biden had been Pres. US did blow Covid response badly, but even that is not necessarily the President’s fault, completely at least. Biden is on the books in the same way for from now on though.

  70. bailbondmike says:

MikeE, that’s the 450,000 that David is referring to, huh. Well, I’m sorry David he is not a wizard and can make a deadly virus go poof and disappear. That 450K is less than 1/4 of the over 2 million deaths that were predicted in year 1. That’s not bad if you ask me.

Krishna said 500K, guess you were leaving out the ones Cuomo murdered.

    • stangerx says:

US has 4% of the world’s population and like 20% of the Covid deaths. Not sure who was doing the predicting, but seems pretty bad to me. And we had more time to prepare than other countries that did better. Plus we supposedly have the best medical system in the world.

      • bailbondmike says:

I know what you are saying but we will never know the real #’s. Our (US) #’s are inflated so hospitals could get more $$. To what extent? Could be very little or a bunch. We will never truly know.

      • stangerx says:

If the US deaths are inflated think because Covid + whatever condition. Do agree that the global tally might be under reported, especially in third world countries. Lot of first world places did better though. Check out Japan or South Korea.

I’m curious to see how much our front office is weighing prior relationship with the WR, if they go WR at all early….

But just in terms of rankings, I think Chase is the #1 WR in the draft
#2 and #3 are also very good IMO
And it’s not a huge falloff

  72. bailbondmike says:

I need to look up the pro days. So we can see their current measurables and 40 times. I know these #’s aren’t the tell all but will help me decide on the ones I am real close on like Chase and Smith.

When Joe helped get the prosecutor fired their was no current Burisma investigation. Guess you didn’t know that. But then you called me a leftist before. Have explained my politics many times. Did you miss?

But like I said…. let them investigate. What more do you want than that?

  74. Randy says:

If, as the theorists believe, and we actually do run out of coal and natural gas in about 50 years or so, what happens next? The question isn’t whether or not we should invest in alternative forms of energy, the question is how we do it because one way or another we are gonna have to….relatively shortly. Sticking our heads in the sand and not moving forward as aggressively as possible will only make the problem worse. Imagine in 50 years, if we haven’t come up with affordable, manageable and reliable forms of energy what a serious crisis this Country will be in.
    ***
And all of that doesn’t even begin to take into account the devastation we have done and continue to do to our planet….you know our finite resource….as we continue to squeeze out every last bit of fossil fuels because we refuse to make the hard choices to move beyond our reliance on them. We’ve been kicking this can down the road for decades. It will bite us in the ass eventually. It’s just a matter of when.

    • wyoming85 says:

Only if you don’t know how to get food from anywhere but the grocery store!

    • steveccnv says:

      Use all forms of energy.

Because some corrupt politician, John Kerry, said, we need to only use “clean” renewable energy, that doesn’t make it the way it should be.

Who the fuck is he? He isn’t an expert in the field, just some power hungry, corrupt, politician, that needs to do a favor for those paying his ass off.

Why take his words as word?

  75. ocalarob says:

Chase would be a great pick, especially if we were able to move back and get him

  76. ocalarob says:

What the left has done is open the door for snap impeachments, in 2022 if the right control the senate i believe not only Biden but also Harris will be impeached.
Harris for “insurrection” as she bailed out a thug who went on to hit someone with a pipe.

  77. New Age says:

    Piggy,

I also think Chase has the best measurable overall but it’s so hard to not look at Smiths numbers especially in big games. I also want to see some combine type numbers from someone on these guys.

Many may disagree, but I think it’s negligent of the NFL to rescind the combine this year. Owners and teams will be going in blind as I watched tons on contact sports occur the past three months. It may be the underwear olympics but the various speed tests are good knowledge.

ORob — maybe Joe Biden is corrupt. Thing is I never said he wasn’t.
    _________________________________________________________

by what you are posting it certainly seems you don’t think Biden is corrupt, at least that’s the conclusion i drew from it.

    • stangerx says:

Nope — don’t particularly think Biden is corrupt….. very well think his son might be though. You do know all the Hunter Biden stuff has been out there for months I assume? Including before the election. Been vetted in the extreme.

Except for Pres and my Mayor all my votes in the last 3 elections have gone GOP. How is that backing the left? Lot more votes on the Republican side.

My question wasn’t exactly for you, but since you’re the only one to even remotely try to answer it…

You just said you voted for Biden, why? Were you really voting for him or against Trump?

    • stangerx says:

I was voting against Trump. He rubs me the wrong way. 3 of the say 10 people I respect most in the world have met him and at least 2 of them had real bad experiences. Then just from his moves, don’t like his style at all. In 2016 said would vote for him if he released his taxes as he promised over and over and over. He never did and I didn’t.

By 2020 had seen enough lies . Not sure what would have done if was him against Bernie though.

  81. Randy says:

    New Age,
The combine has only been around since the early 80s. It’s helpful, but it’s certainly not necessary. Most of these draft eligible guys have a shit ton of video and scouting done on them already. Frankly, for my money, the combine actually just muddies the water because folks focus more on 40 times and how guys look without pads rather than their actual play on the field. Fans anyway. I’m not sure how much emphasis teams put on it. I’ve heard for years they care more about the medical and interviews than the drills. Just watch their game film. It’ll tell you everything you need to know. Way more than the combine does.

I want to buy a C-5 Corvette, 02 to 04 preferably, been looking online and on auction sites

  84. Randy says:

Anybody who actually wants to know the truth about just how corrupt Trump and his family was during his Presidency just has to do some research. If you believe there’s no evidence of his corruption, you’re simply not interested in knowing….and that’s your prerogative, I guess. Rail on Biden for his corruption all you like but if you’re gonna try to claim Trump wasn’t corrupt, you’re sorely mistaken. Go read the dozens of articles explicitly laying it out. You probably won’t…but then you probably haven’t actually looked into Biden corruption either. Ignorance is bliss. It makes bitching about stuff a lot easier too.

    • Mike E. says:

I don’t think that’s the case. The left has been on Trump even before he took office, and what’s even sadder, they’re still on him over a month of him being out of office. I never said Trump wasn’t corrupt, or didn’t lie, because he lied a lot. On the other hand, there is a sentiment that Joe is a nice, honest working man that cares about people and there couldn’t be a bigger fallacy. He’s no better than Trump in any way, shape or form. He’s a learned politician who has learned how to lie, deceive and has been doing it for nearly 5 decades. That’s in a nutshell. They couldn’t wait until he was out of office, and now he is, and now they have no one to blame anymore.

      • stangerx says:

Maybe Joe Biden gets caught in the biggest scandal in US history. We’ll have to see. And I’m sure a bunch of Republicans will be looking for whatever dirt there is. Gonna be some Trump legal actions too though. That Georgia election phone call wasn’t pretty for starters.

    • steveccnv says:

Would those be the dozens of articles written by the fake news, that you take as fact?

If Trump was corrupt the last 4 years they would’ve strung him up.

Don’t forget the insurance policy from Strzok and Page, just in case he beat hilllary.

    • steveccnv says:

Are you referring to republucrepirt.org, that has a top 10 list of his corruption?

I read thru some of the BS and it appeared to be written using the left’s fact checker. You gotta be some kind of schmuck to believe those partisan hacks.

  85. ocalarob says:

Deshaun Watson was with Raekwon Davis & Christian Wilkins having dinner in Miami, all 3 players have the same agent. what were they talking about???

I wonder if Watson will be a dolphin around draft time.

The F.O. says they are totally behind and ready to go with Tua, could that be a smoke screen?

Watson has a no trade clause so he can kill any trade he wants.

Kinda puts the squeeze on the Texans and limits the trade value of Watson.

they should have never gave him a no trade clause.

could we offer #18 and maybe a good player for Watson on draft day?

    • stangerx says:

Gonna take a lot more than #18 and a good player. Tua plus both our firsts and one of the 2nds would be the admission price to the bidding party.

  86. Randy says:

    MikeE,
I definitely agree that the narrative we are being fed about Biden now is that he’s a good guy with a heart of gold. I don’t believe that for a second. But, I also don’t believe the idea that he’s completely corrupt simply because he’s been a politician for 40 years, and Trump somehow wasn’t corrupt. I just get tired of all this partisan BS when the truth is pretty easy to find. People just need to educate themselves…..that’s all I’m saying. After that, hate whomever ya like! Lol

    • stangerx says:

You don’t even have to call Trump corrupt…. selfish will do. One that got me is when he didn’t want that Covid infested cruise ship to dock in San Fran cause it “would make his numbers go up” and “would be unfair to him.” Ship was filled with US citizens.

  87. Randy says:

    steve,
No, I am not referring to that. But, calling something you don’t want to believe “fake” has become an easy way to simply ignore it. Why is everything written about Trump fake but everything written about Biden is true? It’s become a too easy cop out for all of us to just claim something is fake when we don’t want to believe it. Facts don’t seem to be facts anymore. Everything can be discredited these days simply by calling it “fake news”. I wonder where that started…and why?

I don’t get cancelling the combine either. I’m pretty sure they can practice social distancing at the combine

It’s really strange given the combine occurred last April.

    BBMIke,

Pro days are a healthy alternative, and nfl teams have the budgets to got to all of them. But I really do think the combine helps teams gauge the talent a little more.

In fact, it’s the only source of energy that becomes more plentiful with beer!

Forget Nuclear, Solar, Oil or Wind

    Go Pig Fart

  96. Mike E. says:

Randy – I’m not a big Trump fan. I prefer his policies on a lot of issues over what the other side has to offer but he’s not a good person, there’s no mistaking that. He’s just too divisive, it’s not healthy. I think the reactions he got from the other side were way over the top but still, he was not a unifier I’m not sure Biden is either, but you don’t feel that strong presence of opposition from him like you did with trump. That being said, he’s signed so many executive orders, I can guarantee you he doesn’t know 3/4 of the shit he signed. I think he’s toast man, and I don’t think he’s going to make the full 4 year term. I hope Trump doesn’t run again in ’24 because if he wins the party again, I won’t vote for him. We need to do better.

    • New Age says:

      Mike,

I always wanted a guy with Trump’s policies in a better shell. Someone who could get people to work with him, even a little, while still pushing policies no other candidate is ever willing to push. Trump has a serious persecution complex.

      • Mike E. says:

Exactly, New Age – The Republicans will wish they hadn’t backed Trump if he runs again because he’ll never win another election. There are just way too many people who don’t want to see him. I actually cringe at imagining him at the helm again. It can’t happen. They need to groom someone better.

  97. New Age says:

    Randy,

I agree that the tape is much better but there’s certain tests they do at the combine that I think are super valuable. How high and far can they jump? The 3 cone and agility drills are also super useful. I know they can do that shit at pro days but what if they don’t? You have to at the combine or it looks really bad. You agreed to do these tests as part of your invite. Excuses are easier at your pro day and no one is really allowed to touch and prod you there.

For instance, D. Smith is the superior WR on film. He’s done more than Chase for longer. There is so much film of him dominating at all levels. Against the top players in college. Based off film, he blows out the competition especially if you think Burrow is superior to the Bama QBs….which I do. Burrow could have been the difference for Chase (or reversed) but neither produced the same in college without the other. Smith did well with two QBs. I still think Chase is the better WR due to abilities I wouldn’t be able to see if the same setting without the combine. In late April, Grier will have less information than ever before at spot #3. It sucks for him and everyone in those draft rooms. And it was avoidable. If there is any skill involved, less of it will make the difference this year. That’s huge when I think Grier is one of the better drafters.
