Week 13 – Game 12 – Dolphins vs Broncos

Miami-Dolphins-vs-Denver-Broncos-NFL-Matchup-jpg_687226_ver1.0_1280_720

SO, our disappointing season continues as we host the hapless Denver Broncos, who oddly enough, are in worse shape than our Dolphins at 3-8.  This game is meaningless for us the fans, but to players, the games still matter, because they get paid, and they have a job to do, and for some, they are looking to make a positive impression on the coaches to earn a spot on the roster.  In the big picture, it would probably be better for us to lose out, and finish the season 4-12, and end up with a top 5 pick, but Coach Gase and probably the majority of the players don’t want to see that.

I’m not even sure what to expect from our team this week.  Denver is hurting in the secondary with the 1 game suspension of Aqib Talib, so one might think Devante Parker should feast.  The reality is, even with Jay Cutler at QB, who loves Parker, they just can’t seem to have a big game together.  His best game this season was probably game 1 against the Chargers where he caught 4 passes for 85 yards, but he scored his ONLY TD in Week 2 in the final second of a 20-6 loss against the Jets.  Remember before the season all the talk about what a great year Parker is going to have, he was tearing it up in training camp, practice and even the preseason?  BLAH BLAH BLAH, he’s completely underperformed again, along with the rest of the team.  Broken record.

Some here will be rooting for a loss, some for a win, and others don’t even care anymore and won’t bother to watch.  I’ll watch, I have to, but if it wasn’t for FF, I might find other things to do on Sundays at this point.  I think when I sit down to watch, I just hope I can see something that gives me hope that we can be a good team.  Show me some good play in all phases and beat the Broncos 34-3.  I’d rather lose than have us win a slopfest 13-10 or something, and I really mean that.  That win, to me at least is meaningless.  If we’re going to win, at least give us something to watch.

I hear ya Doggy, but like I said, if we’re going to win a sloppy error filled game 13-10, that’s not going to make me any happier than if we lost that game 13-10. It would be a hollow win for me, but I get you.

I can’t find it in myself to hope they lose and want to see the team play hard and well. But will admit would not be all that crushed to see a last second potential Parkey game winning field goal sail just wide.

I’d like to see the team play well, especially the young players.

Nice to hear Burke on Harris….least we have a first round DE with some work ethic this time.

“Charles Harris has been good. It’s a hard position as a rookie. It’s a hard position. He’s working through that. He’s played a bigger role than maybe intended at first. At times it may be a bit much for him but long-term is helps. There isn’t a person in the building that would question his work ethic. He makes them open the weight room early every day. All these reps are going to be good on him. Got a hit on Tom Brady last week. Happy with the progress.”

A.J. Derby, picked off waivers when the Broncos tried to place him on injured reserve, practiced today for the Dolphins.

  13. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Mike, yeah it didn’t look right but I was more focused on that he practiced. If you had to waive players before putting them on IR teams would be stealing top players.

  14. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Tim – Did you notice on the Phinsiders list of articles to the bottom left, the article about Why Eli Manning to the Dolphins make sense? I didn’t read it, because I think it’s silly.

    • ElephantRider's avatar ElephantRider says:

Yeah….Jags would be the place. Let stinky Bortles walk, draft another QB and let Eli finish with Coughlin.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I just briefly read it and it’s just goofy speculation because of Gase’s relationship with Peyton. I agree it’s silly.

One bad thing for us is how well their coach knows our players and our schemes. Both defense and offense.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Gase knows quite about about some of their players too who are still there from 2014. I don’t think it will come down to any of that. It will come down to which struggling team makes the least amount of mistakes and the most big plays.

  17. ElephantRider's avatar ElephantRider says:

    Tim

I had to read it just to see what they were saying. Why won’t Tannehill’s knee heal properly? Players have had much more devastating knee injuries and have come back fine. Do they forget what an Iron Man Tannehill was before that? That article was huge reach at best.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I don’t think people understand how Tannehill’s knee injury happened again. He tried without surgery the first time and it didn’t work. All reports say his surgery went well and he’ll be ready to go in 2018.

      • ElephantRider's avatar ElephantRider says:

ACL isn’t a death sentence anymore….especially for QBs. Heck…even achillies aren’t what they used to be.

  25. This will come as a shock to everyone here but Tim is right. I’m not the coach, I’m not the GM. I have no power over anything this team does and no matter how much I may think I know better than anyone within the organization they aren’t going to listen to anything I have to say because I don’t do this for a living.

So, I just need to sit back and relax and let things go the way they go. Nothing I can do about it so I’m not going to concern myself with it. Whether we win or lose I’m just a fan and I’ll just go with that.

    • Phindog's avatar Phindog says:

Who are you and what did you do with ProfLou ? 😎

      • Well, I don’t know why it took me this long to realize it but I’ve been wasting too much time on things that don’t really matter. There are causes I want to be involved in and try to help as much as I can before I leave this planet.

I’ve always gone to Walmart at this time of the year and taken two children’s names off the tree as many times as I could before Christmas and purchase gifts for them. I’ve donated money to St. Jude’s on a regular basis.

I want to start helping to feed people at Thanksgiving and Christmas and I want to try and expand on that as much as I can. So, I want to start concentrating on what I need to do to get me to that point. Start small in the beginning and then try to expand to as many as I can like Tony Robbins did. I don’t have his resources so I can’t do what he’s done every year but that’s an inspiration and when I just saw chef Andres on 60 Minutes this past Sunday feeding all those people in Puerto Rico and doing a better job than our government I thought “I’ve got to take action”.

I fostered for 13 years before I got divorced and I’m thankful for that. It’s been a true gift to know all the children that have come into my life, many of whom I’m still in contact with on Facebook.

But, I feel I’ve wasted too much time on trivial stuff and want to start making a real difference.

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Why not get your foot in the door as a scout if you have the passion that you have? I’ve thought about myself, but I’d be taking a pay-cut and it can be a lonely life… it’s not for me. Instead, I’m holding out for a GM position somewhere, LOL.

But seriously, you have a LOT of good football insight… even when it hurts to hear it. You just gotta stop letting your frustrations get the better of you as a Phin fan. And from one Phin fan to another, I… hell, ALL of us, KNOW those difficulties, for sure.

DEAR PROF LOU: Big props to you, man for your charitable work!! –Me & Mrs. OD have been donating monthly to St. Jude’s hospital for over two decades. The services and research they do are both incredible. My wife, who can no longer work due to multiple major surgery (5 times) has donated time to the Moffitt Cancer Hospital in Tampa (Bob Griese’s on the Board of Directors). I’m also beginning my 40th year on the state coin collector’s organization B.O.D. and I’m starting my 5th year as President. It’s also a non-paying position that encourages kids to collect coins. We will be putting on our 63rd annual convention in the Tampa Convention Center Jan.3-8. Currently, it is America’s largest coin convention by a considerable margin. We both have several other charitable interests, but I sure do not want to bore you with them. Some involve pets (Bay area Greyhound Rescue) and some others involve hospice services. But those are stories for another time. Bottom line is this: we should ALL TRY to make a difference while we’re here on earth. For someone who started life in an orphanage in Canada, I’d have to say life has been more than good to me—it’s been GREAT to me!! –Every day is a good day to pay back and pay forward.

For me I would prefer to discuss projections and game strategies week to week but then this team hits the doldrums and it doesn’t even matter anymore.

There are times I come on here and see what’s being discussed and I don’t even have it in me to get into it. This blog should be more about fun than getting ourselves irritated or getting into heated arguments.

I mentioned a while back about poaching players from other teams PS just to get them on the roster going into next season. Don’t know if we can do that but why not. We are talking about camp bodies who other teams are keeping around due to their upside or they are just that deep at a certain position that they cant crack the 53. Some of these were on peoples mocks last year or year before including mine like the OL from the U of Pitt.
PS players (going by that cap website):
    OT Adam Bisnowaty (NYG)
    OG Dorian Johnson (HOU)
    OT Tyler Marz (TENN)
    OT Willie Beavers (SEA)
    OT Isaiah Battle (SEA)
    DE Hunter Dimick (JAX)
    DE Ifeadi Odenigbo (MINN)
    QB Brad Kaaya (DET)
    RB Elijah Hood (OAK)
    Just to name a few.

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

I’ve always liked Willie Beavers and Brad Kaaya, but I’d be more interested in Hunter Dimick. Perhaps he can’t get on the “Sacksonville” Jags 53 because they’re already loaded with talent.

Count me as one who’d poach Dimick in a heartbeat. That would be a win-win deal in my eyes.

Though it was Hayes who asked the Dolphins to tear up the 2018 portion of his contract when Miami traded for him from the Rams last offseason (and Miami obliged), the Dolphins suspect he would like to return.

If a team takes a player off another team’s PS, they must put them on their 53 for at least a certain time period.

Losing James isn’t going to help the OL. Can’t replace 4 of them in one year. Keep the tackles in place. Get some damn Gs finally and Pouncey replacement in house

  80. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

Here we go, just what i thought, Gase’s philosophy does not include a running game, Eat healthy my friends if you want to see a contender in Miami because you will have to live a long life as it will be a long time coming.
I can’t believe they let this clown run the team!

Dolphins HC Adam Gase says he doesn’t like featured RBs

    • Brian in NY's avatar Brian in NY says:

That’s not what he’s saying Rob- he’s saying that he doesn’t want ONE guy to be the focal point of the running game. He wants “multiple players” that an do a variety of things at the RB position.

      • ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

Yes, he wants these little scat backs to go out for passes, i get it, Gase wants to score a lot of points just like he did in Denver. he wants to pass just like he did in Denver.
does he actually think Drake can carry the load at RB?
why are we 0-4 without Ajayi? is that a coincidence?

You need a Bell Cow, here he is saying (he doesn’t need one).
let me interpret that for you, (He cant win) with that philosophy.

he relies on his QB way too much, he passes way too much.

      • Brian in NY's avatar Brian in NY says:

6’1″ and 212 lbs is a “little scat back”? I don’t think you need a featured back the way we grew up watching football. Look at NO with Ingram and Kamara. I’m not saying that it wouldn’t be good to have someone carry a bit more of the load, but you don’t need that “one” guy like you used to. We have lost the past four games because our D has been getting gashed on the ground yet again, and our OL is borderline pathetic.

      • ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

what we need is a RB that can gash the middle, explode for yardage running the ball to make Defenses plan for that as well as the passing game, if you’re just going to pass 40 times per game such as we do you are an easy read and easily defensed by opponents

  81. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

Gase does not have a clue how to run a successful football team, we’re toast until Ross wises up and gets rid of this clown!

  82. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

    Get Harbaugh!!!!

    Wyoming,
I keep telling you- Gesicki is going NO LATER than the 2nd round!

  85. Brian in NY's avatar Brian in NY says:

Now Rob, if you are going to try to tell me that you are planning for your Bell Cow to be Saquon Barkley, then I will have to agree that we do need one!

    • ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

Gase put the writing on the wall, Barkley isn’t a consideration, he doesn’t need a bell cow.

Yes i would love for them to get him, He’s a very fluid RB and will be great in the NFL

We are favored today…..probably last time of the year.

Gase wants three backs just like CJ Anderson who he tried to get.
Williams fits the bill. Drake worries me right now because he’s fumbling.

  88. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

Look what Elliot did for Dallas last year, Look what Gurley is doing for the Rams, makes you wonder what Barkley could do for Miami??

  89. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

What the hells up with Leveon Smith???

Bail Mike, oh man that was a great game. That’s two weeks in a row UCF beat a one loss team. With Championship implications involved.

It sucks Frost is leaving if he had a chance to get to the playoffs here he might have stayed but the lure of your alma mater is always strong.

Ferguson looks too slight of build to me and he makes some bad decisions at times I think Miller has made him look a lot better than he is.
Milton can sling it can’t he. Man I love his arm but he’ll never be big enough for the pros.
How can you not love Shaqeem Griffen? I wonder if the pros will take a shot at him and where would you play him? He can’t play front 7 at his size.

  91. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

for anyone that thinks Gase wants to run the ball, look at the stats. he passes 40 times a game runs 15, what a great unbalanced attack this moron has!

  92. stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Bold prediction — Parker +100 yards and with at least one TD.

This season is not a good one to use stats and philosophies for our team. But last year we passed 29.8 times PG and rushed 25.3 PG. Not a 40-15 split.

UCF got all the respect they could expect in the end at 10, if there were an 8 team playoff I would have been pissed if they didn’t get in. 10 is nice as it is.
