2019 Training Camp begins TOMORROW!

This is just the start, but hey, it’s the start of the 2019 Miami Dolphins season today. Once the pads come on, this is where it finally gets real. Long gone are 3-a-days and in 2011 the collective bargaining eliminated two-a-days as well, so the brutally hard practices of yesteryear are all gone. Still, this is the closest thing to action we got, so enjoy it!

The rookies have been here since Sunday, but tomorrow the entire team, both veterans and rookies will be together as one team. I think quite a few of the rookie class will make the team, which is already a pretty young roster. We lost DT Kendrick Norton in a terrible automobile accident which took his arm and his football career, but Kendrick seems to be doing well and is out of the hospital. The Miami Dolphins have decided to pay Kendrick Norton his entire salary, a nice gesture.

There are some big camp battles, including of course the QB battle between long time vet Ryan Fitzpatrick and newly acquired 2nd year QB Josh Rosen. To me that’s the headliner. Most fans think Fitz will start the season but I believe there is a fair chance if Rosen plays well enough he may earn the job. What happens at DE is big too, because it looks like a very deficient unit at the moment, unless some guys step up and do a LOT more than they have yet in their careers. The number of sacks from the current guys is truly woeful, Tank Carradine in 5 seasons has (5.5) sacks, Nate Orchard in 4 seasons has (5) sacks, Charles Harris in 2 seasons has (3) sacks and Jonathan Woodard in 1 season has (1) sack. That’s 13 sacks combined for 4 players. Obviously in our new hybrid defense we will be rushing the passer with LB’s as well as safeties and corners, and we will need guys like Jerome Baker, Kiko Alonso, Reshad Jones, Minkah Fitzpatrick, Bobby McCain and others to be effective occasionally when they blitz. In addition, I think we can get pressure on the inside with DE/DT’s Vincent Taylor, Davon Godchaux and Christian Wilkins. If not, it’s going to be a long hard season for this defense and we will struggle to get off the field.

We have a lot of DB’s on the roster but it’s imperative that we find an effective player on the opposite side of Xavien Howard. It may be former Patriot Eric Rowe, or maybe one of our own guys step up like Jalen Davis, Cornell Armstrong, Torry McTyer or hopefully Cordrea Tankersley who is currently on the PUP list. CB Jomal Wiltz showed some flash w/o pads, we’ll see how he fares with the pads on. At safety we’re in really good shape with Reshad Jones, Minkah Fitzpatrick, T.J. McDonald, Bobby McCain (who will share slot duties as well with Minkah), and Maurice Smith and ST’s ace Walt Aikens.

On offense, it’s going to be very interesting to see what our identity is on that side of the ball. I think a lot of that will depend on who the QB is. Ryan Fitzpatrick throughout his career has been a gunslinger for better or worse. He plays a wide open type of game and always looks to push the ball downfield, sometimes recklessly so. He’s a gambler. With our offensive line a huge question mark, nothing helps a beleaguered OL better than a consistent run game. It gives them more confidence and wears down the opposing defense. Will Fitz be a game manager? It’s possible, but I’d sooner see a power run game with a play action pass game although I can’t see Fitz reining himself in. Rosen would be the better candidate to operate that type of offense, and any QB would benefit from a strong run game.

Our WR’s corps really is another huge question mark. On paper it looks better than it really is because you never know what you’ll get from Devante Parker, and Albert Wilson is coming back from a season ending hip injury that robbed him of such a promising season. Wilson was nothing short of electric while he was healthy scoring 4 TD’s on only 26 receptions, that’s a TD every 7 catches. Kenny Stills is really the only given, you know he will make some big plays although he’s never been a volume receiver having more than 60 receptions only once, his 2nd year with the Saints and Drew Brees. Regardless, he averages routinely near 15 YPC and he scores TD’s. What about the rest of the WR corps? Jakeem Grant is exciting but so far has been used in small doses. I’m not sure he’ll ever be like a Tyreek Hill although I sure wouldn’t mind if they tried. Brice Butler brings another big bodied receiver and he showed some abilities last year but only had 6 receptions for us. In his 6 years in the NFL, he’s never had more than 20 receptions. We have a few other big receivers in house, Preston Williams, newly acquired WR Saeed Blacknall and Reece Horn. All of them are 6’2 or bigger.

Last season our LB unit really picked up, a lot of that due to the return of Raekwon McMillan’s run stopping prowess and the coverage and tackling ability of rookie OLB Jerome Baker. Baker had an excellent rookie season showing excellent pass coverage skills, and for all intents and purposes, McMillan had an excellent rookie season too (1st year I/R). Kiko thrived last year not being forced to cover quite as much and turned an underrated solid season. Kiko finished with 125 total tackles (79 solo), 3 INT’s3 FF’s, 1 FR and 6 passes defensed. This a strength on our defense, and if we can generate any pass rush at all, this defense will surprise a lot of teams.

The O-line, a perennial worry, once again is exactly that. Starting LT Laremy Tunsil is one of the leagues best, but after that if could potentially fall off a cliff. Will it be Wisconsin rookie Michael Deiter at LG or swing man Chris Reed from JAX? Can Dan Kilgore hold down the C spot and be effective? It seems like Jesse Davis is going to play one of the spots on the right side but it’s yet to be determined whether it’s RG or RT. We acquired RT Jordan Mills from Buffalo, a starter of every game for the last 3 years. He was underwhelming with shorts and t-shirts, but I have a feeling once the pads come on, he’ll look a lot better. While Mills isn’t an elite pass blocker, he’s got experience and shouldn’t be a turnstile. If he does falter, Jesse Davis just might play RT and maybe of Deiter looks adequate, Chris Reed could slide over to RG with Davis playing RT. In any case, a lot has to happen to give me any kind of confidence in this unit going forward.

At RB, Kenyan Drake is primed to have a big season. Whether he’s the big volume guy as far as carries isn’t important, he should be getting more touches. He’s a HR hitter and we simply need to score more points. Scoring less than 20 PPG won’t cut it, and Drake can help with more touches. What will be fun to watch is who, if anyone, is the volume back. Kalen Ballage is back for his 2nd season and he showed some promise last season. We drafted extremely high volume back Myles Gaskin from Washington. Gaskin had nearly 1000 carries there and over 5300 yards. Lots of miles for Myles, but he potentially could get the lion’s shares of the carries. We have a couple of bowling balls on the roster as well in Kenneth Farrow and Mark Walton (who may face disciplinary action from the NFL for an off the field incident). We’ll see if either guy makes the roster.

ST’s was a solid unit all around, from place kicking with Jason Sanders and punting with Matt Haack, (Rock’s beloved) LS John Denney, and the return team of Kenyan Drake, Jakeem Grant and Kalen Ballage. All were better than average last year and hopefully that will either continue or improve.

After taking a look at the entire team, there’s a few good things that stand out, and a few problems that are hopefully fixed. DE and the O-line are the potential weaknesses, while LB, S and DT a strength. RB and WR are wld cards, because you just don’t know what you can get from this group. If Devante Parker ever plays like we thought he could when we drafted him and catches 60-80 balls with a 12+ YPC average and 8-10 TD’s, along with Stills getting his usual 6-10 TD’s, and we have a consistent run game with the trio of Drake, Ballage and Gaskin, we can be a very competitive team. As usual, lot’s of ifs. No pass rush and no DB stepping up to average or better than average opposite X and we will be in trouble. O-line incapable of either generating a consistent run game or protecting the QB and again, trouble. Here’s hoping for the best!

GO DOLPHINS!!!

  1. ORob, if you are unhappy with the installer that installed Your ac, call him, bitching at me on a football blog 7 years later does nothing but make You look retarded, and unable to manage issues in Your home.
You said you were done bitching, but now bitching again, SMH

Btw, the installer won’t be coming out, he told me he doesn’t like You, again, no need to bitch at Me on a football blog years later, especially when You can’t seem to remember details, facts, and obviously aren’t good with home repair projects, or have much knowledge on wiring.

There isn’t anything I can do for You, nor do I want too

Nuff time wasted on You, there is notthing I can do for Your personal issues, and bitching doesn’t change that

Then, please be done and be a man of your word.

  3. Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

Pretty shitty actually…since Mrs K and I are headed to Mayo on Tuesday and surgery on 8/12. No tolerance for baby bullshit these days. You asked.

  4. I feel Rosen will beat out Fitzpatrick
Rosen has all the tools and potential, unrealized and unproven so far.
We already know Fitzpatrick doesn’t take care of the ball, and that’s a big no no for a QB

Rosen is the real deal, I’ve watched a lot of film on him in college and with the jr college team Cardinals, lol

He has excellent footwork and can put the ball in tight places. He doesn’t have great speed, but has a good pocket presence and is good at avoiding the first rusher and getting the pass off
He tosses dimes left and right, and in the right offense, with a little confidence and experience, he could be everything we want in a franchise QB

We are wasting our time if Fitzpatrick starts, he will turn the ball over, and Rosen won’t be evaluated
We have no idea if we want to draft a QB in 2020 until after we see Rosen starting at minimum 10-12 games, preferably 17 counting a wild card appearance

    • It took about 4’years or so to find out if Henne of Tannehill was OUR guy, so even a single season with Rosen, might not answer all of our questions, but we need the full season .

the less games he plays, the less We know about him

  5. Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

We are not wasting our time if we want to win any games from what I read. Rosen seems to be a second year rookie and that’s ok, imo. Let him come in mid-season or else when Fitz crashes and burns. And, only until then. The TEAM sees.

    • One of the best ways to lose is turn the ball over, Fitzpatrick is NOT our franchise QB, but Rosen might be
Only one way to know, put him out there
He is not going to lose every game by starting, and gives us a better chance to win By securing the football

We can’t go into the 2020 draft and have no idea who Rosen is or what he can do for us.

  6. What would Miami do in 2020, if Tua was available to us, but we have no idea if we need Tua or not?

I feel like Rosen has to start, or we cannot rebuild if we don’t know what we have or need.

    Knowledge is power

  7. Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

I think we have plenty of time to know who Rosen is in 2019….unless Fitz kills it. And, if Fitz kills it then is Rosen really you’re man? I don’t get the logic/strategy.

  8. pheloniusphish's avatar pheloniusphish says:

Krishna – Best to you and your wife.

I don’t know that Rosen can beat out Fitz. Fitz has every bit of the talent and footwork that Rosen is reported to have, plus 15 years of experience and processing of NFL defenses. Either way, Miami is probably drafting a QB early next year.

  9. Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

Thank you Pp. I think they will be drafting a QB, too, and I hope it won’t be Tua.

Thus, my opinion about this year’s wasted 2nd.

    • Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

I think it was a wasted 2nd & 5th as well (as I am on record saying, LOL) I just hope it’s not Tua next year.

  10. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

The 21-personnel package was deployed early and often. Chandler Cox will need an ice bath tonight — he was in as much as any skill position player.

The two-back sets were not exclusive to the use of a fullback. Ballage and Kenyan Drake shared the backfield at times.
This team will run the ball, run the ball, and run the ball some more. If that’s who they want to be, they need to make sure:

    – They are in peak shape
    – Ballage is ready to rock week-one
    – The variety in the ground game is fluent across all schemes

Based on what we’ve seen through two days they aren’t there on all accounts — but should be by opening day.

    WOOOOO HOOOOOOO

  11. Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

Love the peak shape….anyone playing in Dolphin stadium in the 70’s in September had to be….Boy, I miss those undefeated records in September at home.

  12. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

There’s still a long way to go for Josh Rosen. It’s only one day, but the ghosts from his days and Arizona might still exist. Tank Carradine put a bull rush right into Rosen’s lap and the youngster wasn’t able to get off his spot. He wound up throwing the football directly into Carradine’s facemask.

On the next snap, Rosen attempted to riffle a swing pass out to the boundary late into the progression and threw it — literally — five feet over his target’s head.

Rosen was also picked off in red zone drills by rookie UDFA Montre Hartage. Hartage was all over the field — he looked the part.

Most disparaging of all, Josh Rosen had a dreadful day from the word go. In the first individual period, the QBs ran a simulated pressure drill throwing to any one of three stationary coaches placed evenly across the field (left sideline, middle hashes, right sideline).

After the quarterbacks climbed from the top of their drop, a coach would verbally instruct the QB which target to shoot for. Fitzpatrick executed the drill, Rudock did the same, and Rosen sailed a throw.

This wouldn’t normally be of concern, but this was a regularity on Rosen’s Arizona tape. Any time he had to snap to the next read in his progression, his accuracy waned. The same was true of his work throwing into the flats — at that awkward angle — and that showed up today as well. Completion percentage is a misleading statistic. Putting the ball on the wrong hip or shoulder hinders the pass catcher’s ability to turn up-field, even though it goes in the books as a completion.

He would later sail another pass in a similar drill — time fleeing the imaginary pocket to the right — throwing a pass too tall for a stationary Kenny Stills. The lack of execution is one thing, but Rosen’s body language looked more like sulking than aggravation.

I feel confident saying that Jake Rudock was better than Rosen today, and that neither is in the same class as Fitzpatrick

    • Rosen definitely needs to iron out some wrinkles in his game, but so does Fitzpatrick

Fitzpatrick hasn’t learned how to protect the ball in 15 years, not much chance the likght comes on now or later

Rosen is still extremely Young, and hasn’t shown that he is a turnover machine like the grizzled veteran is

Rosen has upside and can improve, Fitz has no upside, and won’t improve unless he can reverse 15 years of bad habits

Fitzpatrick might look good in practice, but the bullets are not live
He and Rosen both will need to be evaluated when the bullets are live

Fitz gets rattled with the pass rush and turns it over, but we won’t see that in Dolphin practices because practice pass rushing isn’t designed to lay the QB out on his ass, it’s more like touch football

    • Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

PTSD….that’s what ruined Beck and T’hill. But, all you need is better QB, fuck the protection/line….lol

  13. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

    Mike E!!

Mike Gesicki is a highlight machine in practice, and that train continued rolling today. Miami implemented a lot of 13-personnel packages down around the goal line with mesh concepts, flats and rubs. Gesicki looks the part of a double-digit touchdown maker in the early going of camp.

Nick O’Leary looks good and has the dual functionality this staff will love. He and Durham Smythe were focal points in the running game install; you could argue that they play a different position altogether than Gesicki.

  14. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Rocko!!!!! I don’t even care that you’re spewing Rosenhate! Good to see ya pal!

  15. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

Xavien Howard followed Jakeem Grant into the slot again and — again — put a stop to his dominance. Another day at the office for the league’s highest-paid corner. It would make sense that he travels with the opposition’s number one, but that will certainly be match-up based.

I need a new Jersey. Don’t know if it will be a 25 or 19.

I’m hearing from multiple sources that Grant is the best rout runner on the team and is dominating out there. “noone can cover him”

    Well, I guess X can.

  16. Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

Who’s the biggest baddest WR in the NFL? Can X cover him?

  17. You guys have to factor in that our defense is not going for blood on the tackling, we do not want to sack Rosen in practice so many times he gets injured, that’s nuts, lol
We don’t want our linebackers sandwiching Gesicki and breaking his leg with hard hits.

QB practice is cake compared to the real games, any reports of hard hitting QB sacks in practice?
Any reports of our lb trying to lay the wood on Gesicki? I hope not

These guys are just playing pitch and catch, there isn’t any real stiff NFL pass rush going on, so of course they should look great

    • Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

Yep….I don’t think anyone is looking past that at this point…especially 1st team 2nd team designations….that’s just so called journalism/reporting/bull shit..

  18. Fitzpatrick won’t turn the ball over in practice, there is no enemy pass rush

He just stands there and tosses the ball, practice is more like warming up, it’s not a full on scrimmage 24/7

If Fitzpatrick got sacked in practice dozens of times and got injured, WTF was that for?

I’m not convinced Wilkins or any defender is goin full tilt for the QB head like an enemy opponent may

If Fitz doesn’t turn the ball over in practice, that isn’t any guarantee during the games he won’t turn it over when enemy pass rushers are trying to remove vital body parts

  19. pheloniusphish's avatar pheloniusphish says:

I don’t think the picks used on Rosen were wasted, regardless of the outcome. It was a calculated risk/gamble. Low cost, potentially high return. Franchise QB are hard to find, elite ones even more so. If you have a chance to to take a shot on a guy like Rosen for low cost, you do it.

  20. pheloniusphish's avatar pheloniusphish says:

As for Tua versus someone else next year, I’ll wait and watch the college season first.

  21. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

I guess we disagree on the value of a 2nd & 5th round pick. Would I rather have Howard and Jones than Rosen? Hell yes.

  22. Rock phin, Your description of how Rosen started his first practice is decent,

But You left the fact that he finished his practice strong

He has a lot more time for the light to come on, the fact he improved as the practice went on could mean he needs more practice , and will benefit from more practice

Flores says he isn’t ready to name a starter yet, and sometimes the light comes on for players

  23. It’s impossible to know the Rosen trade was wasted at this point

  27. “I don’t have a concrete deadline — I would say that,” said Brian Flores when asked about what the timetable looks like for the Miami Dolphins to produce an answer to the number one question in South Florida — who will be Miami’s starting quarterback?

“I think we’re in the evaluation process from now and throughout. I think in this league, in the players that are in this league and how guys develop? Lightbulb goes off certain guys at certain points, there’s always opportunity for changes to be made. And that’s a good thing.”

A 2019 2nd and 2020 5th for a potential franchise QB is a no-brainer on a salary cap friendly deal for the next 3 years. Not sure why that’s being made out to be a big deal? Rosen is friggin 22 years old. LOL

  31. Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

I don’t think anyone’s making a big deal about it except those who think he should start if he’s second best.

If he’s second best he shouldn’t start, period. Unless there’s no other option because the OL got the first QB killed. Where have we seen this before.

    Kong

give it time, your brain will finally develop to where you can understand the importance of 1 st down, and judging a bell cow on how he produces on that down eliminating 10 yards or plus, unless he’s able to give you that every time he touches the ball.

“study of NFL play data conducted by Yale professor Cade Massey, what happens on first and 10 in an NFL game is a powerful indicator of who will win. the ability of an NFL team to meet certain benchmarks on each down is one of the best predictors of whether a drive will be successful. the magic number is four. Those that do, he says, are more likely to be successful in making a first down and keeping the drive alive.”

you should only calculate the first 3 quarters as the 4th quarter usually dictates the score.

    CavalierKong says:
    July 26, 2019 at 2:20 pm
Then the Dolphins are screwed. It’s important to get at least 4 yds on first down, so 2nd and 3rd are manageable and the defense doesn’t know what’s coming. And those 4 yds have to be tough, up the middle yds, outside runs don’t count. And those runs can’t be over 9 yds otherwise you are penalized, put on bread and water for 2 days, and the stats are stricken from the record.

Anything less than that and it’s absolutely impossible to win, period, end of story, hallelujah, amen, where’s the Tylenol?

    • ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

      where’s the OXY!

    • ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

Kong i’m sure the people who call the shots are aware of Drakes ability or lack thereof, it shows as last year Gore was ahead of him and it appears this year Ballage has taken the reigns from him, read it and weep you Drake lover!

Kalen Ballage opens Dolphins camp ahead of Kenyan Drake

      • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

LOL, I think we’ll see a lot of both of them. After seeing more of him last year, I do think Drake needs to be part of a tandem running attack, and not a ‘bell cow’. Last offseason I was of the opinion he could handle the load, and I’ve changed my mind on that. So credit to you there.

    • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

I’m not sure my brain will ever develop enough to reach those lofty heights. The idea that a team that consistently picks up good yardage on 1st down generally has more success is a bewildering concept. A Yale professor figured that out huh? 😉

      • ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

It should go hand in hand, i’d bet that if you were able to take a team that avgs 4 yards per carry on first down eliminating 10 + for the first 3 quarters, i’d bet that team was successful.

look at NE and the Rams rushing stats…#5 & #3 in rushing and oh by the way didn’t they play each other in the last game of the year?

  38. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

what’s real interesting is where these WRs stand, they just signed Hurns to a 1 year deal and Preston Williams looks solid at 6’5.

Parker..Stills..Grant..Wilson..Hurns and maybe Williams being the 6th.

i wonder if one of the 5 gets traded (Maybe Stills) or doesn’t make the team because we also have other seemingly good recs like Trenton Irwin.

He has, however, made sure to tell the President of the US that he’s not welcome in NY. The total disrespect by NYC citizens to law enforcement must be stopped, and the fact that De Blasio or anyone else besides the NYC Police Chief is saying anything is beyond reprehensible. The border wall is much needed. I don’t care how it is paid for. We have had 2 deaths here in my county in the last 2 weeks caused by illegal aliens in separate incidents. One a murder by a Muslim dude. A friend of mine at the jail said the FBI was there trying to determine how he got into the country cause he had no visa documentation but he was not cooperating. The other was a DUI homicide by a Mexican illegal.

Rob, that is probably true for incarceration into prison to serve time but people arrested and taken to jail is much, much more. The average for just my county in FL is about 15 to more than 40 people arrested and booked in each day. I constantly monitor the jail websites for several counties on the panhandle and, for example, Escambia County website currently has 26 people who were arrested and jailed within the last 24 hours. Santa Rosa County 24. I know it was Friday but it really does not matter what day of the week it is. I have seen over 50 booked in on a Tuesday before.

    • BailBondMike's avatar BailBondMike says:

Last years FDLE numbers showed an average of over 1,960 people arrested and jailed each day in the state of Florida alone. Those numbers do include juveniles but not every juvenile gets released to their parents. Some have to bond out. I have 3 juveniles on bond right now. One of the out on 27K in bonds.

The reporting on what the Supreme Court did is wrong and the President’s tweets on it is also false (as usual)

This is a link to the decision so you can read it yourself

    Click to access 19a60_o75p.pdf

The Supreme Court (they are out of session and this was an “emergency” application) is considering whether the president can apportion funds in contravention to what congress permitted – but that wasn’t decided yesterday

No construction is going to begin anytime soon

There was a stay of the lower court that stayed (a court order that doesn’t permit an action) the apportionment and the govt entering contracts as well

So the court considered whether the stay should be lifted emergency application made by the govt was about the entering of the contracts to build the wall, not actual building

The govt argued that it was an emergency that if they didn’t enter those contracts they would lose the ability to enter contracts later (this is called irreparable injury and is a component to all injunctive relief cases), so the court allowed them to enter the contracts

Of course the President completely lies about what occurred in his tweet

Pretty sure that a foundational principle to a well informed electorate is for the president to stop misrepresenting things – but I guess Trump doesn’t think so

and the media has it wrong as well

But it’s a short decision that’s not you can read it yourself

The decision was 5-4 so it’s really close on a less controversial aspect

The bigger issue is a separation of powers issue since the executive branch does not traditionally have the ability to spend money apportioned by Congress

It particularly funny to me that the President brazenly lying about the court’s decision, and the lie exposes his and his conduits other lies – that construction has already begun – which of course is false, as these contracts are for the commencement of building a wall

Really going to have a hard tome debating what you think we need, what’s an emergency, how much we can spend , etc…with a layer of misrepresentions that this administration thrives on

I know most of us have differences of opinion on this subject, but misrepresenting facts (as the President did) is keeping people uninformed and that’s not good for a Democratic republic.

You are allowed to have your opinions in this country, but who’s opinion really matters when you don’t know what’s true or not. This paired with a obvious separation Of powers breach is the real threat this country faces. It’s going to be hard to make our votes count if we vote on false beliefs and our elected officials are undermined by separation of powers breaches. That’s a deadly combination

But you can read information, take it with a grain of salt, then look into it

I had to search for the real supreme decision and was surprised with how different it was from anything I read or heard about it

If you can go directly to the source (in this case the decision) it helps – but that’s much easier on a discussion of what the scotus does (bc their decisions are published) than most allegations

        Everyone has an agenda

    • BailBondMike's avatar BailBondMike says:

Again, I don’t care who pays for it. We need the wall. I don’t care about who said what. We need the wall. I think saying “brazenly lying about the court’s decision, and the lie exposes his and his conduits other lies – that construction has already begun – which of course is false,” is false in itself cause construction has begun and been going on. Most of it has been the replacement of older ineffective wall/fencing but it’s going on.

      • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

Replacement is totally different than construction of a wall

If it’s replacement, call it replacement

The reason that language is chosen is to mislead
If you just call it replacement, you are acknowledging something is already there and the whole idea of “building a wall” when one already exist is questionable

As a tax payer and a voter, your opinion o whether it’s needed matters
        As does mine
And when I vote or your vote for house members who have the sole power to apportion funds, those results should be honored instead of circumventing them like Trump is doing

Misinformation paired with competing undermining our democratic processes is a nightmare for our country’s future

you may also save the lives of the people trying to get here up thru the lower peninsula who travel with kids in rugged conditions.

you will have immigrants that come here legally instead of illegal which is a great cost to the US just trying to keep these people out.

Although i am opposed to allowing anyone and everyone to enter our country and live here with full rights and privileges and services earned by tax-paying citizens,

I think it is factually wrong and dangerously xenophobic to characterize all illegal immigrants as evil or criminals or, come on now, disease carriers. They are not even all drains on our resources.

It could be said that those who come here, even illegally, are often the bravest, strongest, smartest, and most similar to our nation’s ethics of all the folks in their country. The lazy, weak, and stupid are not up to the task, and the successful thugs are happy right where they are. Usually.

Since we advertise our country as the Land of Opportunity
and pride ourselves on the bounty and high standard of living we have here,
we should expect people to want to come here,
to want to give their children a chance to raise their station by being Americans,
and even if it’s not a lofty moral position,
to come here because the living is easy here compared to the dangers of their own country.

We should enact a problem-solving pro-active matrix of foreign policy vis a vis Latin America which has the goal of lifting their socio-economics to the point that walking 500 miles and criminally trespassing into the US is an option less appealing than just frolicking in place. At a minimum.

This set of educational and job-training and infrastructure building and yes, criminal interdiction to break the drug lords’ power, can absolutely be buttressed by deportation of the worst classes of illegal aliens, denial of free services, the closing of “anchor-child” and “chain-migration” and other citizenship loopholes, and the sharp curtailment of socialistic welfare state largesse showered on non-taxpayers such as free ride college scholarships, free walk-in clinic health care, and free public bi-lingual education (which is blatantly used as free day-care and a conduit of free food and services to new (illegal) immigrants).

Many of these programs also ought to be restricted from US-born baby-factory “welfare-moms” and their dead-beat baby-daddies as well, but that’s another, although related, issue.

Even so, racism and prejudice against any ethnic group is simply wrong and against the great principles on which our Great Nation was founded and for which it is rightly praised internationally.

I don’t think it’s inherently wrong to talk about border control

I just think the guy leading this charge (trump) is the wrong guy to be doing it and has starting in the wrong place to have a reasonable discussion

  84. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

If you want to pretend a all those problems are the result of crossing the border, be my guest

But it doesn’t take much research to understand that anti-Vaxxers are the biggest cause epidemics in this country, not border crossings

It also doesn’t take much research to understand that billion dollar drug cartels will easily circumvent the building of a wall by tunneling under them or dare I say – a ladder, or using whatever methods possible to smuggle drugs in and a wall will do very little to stop that and only inhibit crossings from people will little resources

Or that the opioid crisis in this country is a result of doctors and drug companies pushing those opioids on patients for profit, rather than any smuggling

Or that the very deadly shipment of fentanyl to the US, a drug made in China, is often is directly shipped (by mail) to the US without even touching the border

Trumps entire propaganda ring is rotten to the core and “the wall” is the best example of it

He started it by saying “when Mexico sends its people” bc he didn’t even understand that the vast majority of border crossings are from Central Americans and not Mexicans

He only recently thought about approaching changes in asylum law to look at the conflicts that are obvious between illegal crossings and the requirements for asylum which are in compete conflict with each other

A reasonable approach to that conflict would be to take a look at asylum laws and to streamline the “membership of a social class” group to define it more carefully or where claims can be made (or certain claims) but that is nowhere near as theatrical as “build a wall” – and so we will piss away tax dollars on theatrics

I would probably oppose asylum restrictions in favor of work visas and an easier path to citizenship to generate tax revenue in the US – but at least asylum restrictions would be a reasonable approach instead 9th century technology which is largely symbolic

It’s impossible to say from one side of the mouth that they are already building a wall (bc they are replacing the oven that was there already) while out of the other side of the mouth they saying we don’t have a wall and need one Now – but that’s exactly what this administration does.

We have a wall but we need one too. We aren’t separating families but we need to separate families and Obama did it too…wtf is going on, what are they actually doing, are they building a wall replacing a wall? Is it a wall or is it slats? Can you even cover that area or not. How much will we spend on eminent domain issues?

how can you determine whether the costs are worth it in the face of such misrepresentations to begin with? You don’t know how much it will cost. You don’t know bc of the complete lack of honesty on the subject from the top.

You want to go through the mental masterbation of what the left or the right want – it’s fruitless bc you can never no what the actual costs will be when the entire foundation is built on lies.

How can you make any cost analysis when you don’t know the costs and can’t rely on the numbers bc they are so doused with delusions and misrepresentations that they mean nothing?

The answer is – you can’t

Is it too much to ask that in a govt that requires citizens to be involved accurately informs in citizens so they can make wise decisions

He just blatantly misrepresented the scotus ruling to Millions of his followers and you guys keep eating it up

He’s not lying to the left, he’s lying to his own followers
The scotus did not allow him to begin construction in the wall, in fact p, that may never happen

And that’s a theme with trump

Two weeks ago the President announced ice raids to the public before they happened
And those raids were largely ineffective, bc of opposition to those raids, bc they knew they were coming (bc of the announcement) and bc they tried to do them without warrants – an obvious deficiency to anyone with a hint of legal education

Think about that – the President announced raids that were bound to fail bc he announced them

That’s not policy – that’s the theatrics of a reality star

Now you get to debate how angry you are at the left for stopping it
But the reality is, if it weren’t for the public announcement, those raids would have been much more effective

the reality is, reasonable minds differ on this subject
    And I get that

But to say the left only wishes to stop trump at every turn and there are no good reasons to oppose the wall is absurd

Those are my tax dollars (and yours) that will be wasted
I get to decide, just like any voter where I want my tax dollars spent and I can’t think of about 100 things more worthy of my tax dollars than building a wall

I’ve spent countless time over the last years researching information for myself on this topic. I’ve put my emotions aside, I’ve put my instincts aside. I’ve tried to look at other point of views. I’ve tried to put accusations of racism and xenophobia aside (against my better judgment) and I’m still left with the conclusion that the wall is a nothing more than a symbolic gesture and a complete waste of tax payer money

    • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Right with you on the Wall has very little to do with fighting the influx of drugs. I would like a secure immigration policy not decided by who jumps in though.
