This is just the start, but hey, it’s the start of the 2019 Miami Dolphins season today. Once the pads come on, this is where it finally gets real. Long gone are 3-a-days and in 2011 the collective bargaining eliminated two-a-days as well, so the brutally hard practices of yesteryear are all gone. Still, this is the closest thing to action we got, so enjoy it!
The rookies have been here since Sunday, but tomorrow the entire team, both veterans and rookies will be together as one team. I think quite a few of the rookie class will make the team, which is already a pretty young roster. We lost DT Kendrick Norton in a terrible automobile accident which took his arm and his football career, but Kendrick seems to be doing well and is out of the hospital. The Miami Dolphins have decided to pay Kendrick Norton his entire salary, a nice gesture.
There are some big camp battles, including of course the QB battle between long time vet Ryan Fitzpatrick and newly acquired 2nd year QB Josh Rosen. To me that’s the headliner. Most fans think Fitz will start the season but I believe there is a fair chance if Rosen plays well enough he may earn the job. What happens at DE is big too, because it looks like a very deficient unit at the moment, unless some guys step up and do a LOT more than they have yet in their careers. The number of sacks from the current guys is truly woeful, Tank Carradine in 5 seasons has (5.5) sacks, Nate Orchard in 4 seasons has (5) sacks, Charles Harris in 2 seasons has (3) sacks and Jonathan Woodard in 1 season has (1) sack. That’s 13 sacks combined for 4 players. Obviously in our new hybrid defense we will be rushing the passer with LB’s as well as safeties and corners, and we will need guys like Jerome Baker, Kiko Alonso, Reshad Jones, Minkah Fitzpatrick, Bobby McCain and others to be effective occasionally when they blitz. In addition, I think we can get pressure on the inside with DE/DT’s Vincent Taylor, Davon Godchaux and Christian Wilkins. If not, it’s going to be a long hard season for this defense and we will struggle to get off the field.
We have a lot of DB’s on the roster but it’s imperative that we find an effective player on the opposite side of Xavien Howard. It may be former Patriot Eric Rowe, or maybe one of our own guys step up like Jalen Davis, Cornell Armstrong, Torry McTyer or hopefully Cordrea Tankersley who is currently on the PUP list. CB Jomal Wiltz showed some flash w/o pads, we’ll see how he fares with the pads on. At safety we’re in really good shape with Reshad Jones, Minkah Fitzpatrick, T.J. McDonald, Bobby McCain (who will share slot duties as well with Minkah), and Maurice Smith and ST’s ace Walt Aikens.
On offense, it’s going to be very interesting to see what our identity is on that side of the ball. I think a lot of that will depend on who the QB is. Ryan Fitzpatrick throughout his career has been a gunslinger for better or worse. He plays a wide open type of game and always looks to push the ball downfield, sometimes recklessly so. He’s a gambler. With our offensive line a huge question mark, nothing helps a beleaguered OL better than a consistent run game. It gives them more confidence and wears down the opposing defense. Will Fitz be a game manager? It’s possible, but I’d sooner see a power run game with a play action pass game although I can’t see Fitz reining himself in. Rosen would be the better candidate to operate that type of offense, and any QB would benefit from a strong run game.
Our WR’s corps really is another huge question mark. On paper it looks better than it really is because you never know what you’ll get from Devante Parker, and Albert Wilson is coming back from a season ending hip injury that robbed him of such a promising season. Wilson was nothing short of electric while he was healthy scoring 4 TD’s on only 26 receptions, that’s a TD every 7 catches. Kenny Stills is really the only given, you know he will make some big plays although he’s never been a volume receiver having more than 60 receptions only once, his 2nd year with the Saints and Drew Brees. Regardless, he averages routinely near 15 YPC and he scores TD’s. What about the rest of the WR corps? Jakeem Grant is exciting but so far has been used in small doses. I’m not sure he’ll ever be like a Tyreek Hill although I sure wouldn’t mind if they tried. Brice Butler brings another big bodied receiver and he showed some abilities last year but only had 6 receptions for us. In his 6 years in the NFL, he’s never had more than 20 receptions. We have a few other big receivers in house, Preston Williams, newly acquired WR Saeed Blacknall and Reece Horn. All of them are 6’2 or bigger.
Last season our LB unit really picked up, a lot of that due to the return of Raekwon McMillan’s run stopping prowess and the coverage and tackling ability of rookie OLB Jerome Baker. Baker had an excellent rookie season showing excellent pass coverage skills, and for all intents and purposes, McMillan had an excellent rookie season too (1st year I/R). Kiko thrived last year not being forced to cover quite as much and turned an underrated solid season. Kiko finished with 125 total tackles (79 solo), 3 INT’s3 FF’s, 1 FR and 6 passes defensed. This a strength on our defense, and if we can generate any pass rush at all, this defense will surprise a lot of teams.
The O-line, a perennial worry, once again is exactly that. Starting LT Laremy Tunsil is one of the leagues best, but after that if could potentially fall off a cliff. Will it be Wisconsin rookie Michael Deiter at LG or swing man Chris Reed from JAX? Can Dan Kilgore hold down the C spot and be effective? It seems like Jesse Davis is going to play one of the spots on the right side but it’s yet to be determined whether it’s RG or RT. We acquired RT Jordan Mills from Buffalo, a starter of every game for the last 3 years. He was underwhelming with shorts and t-shirts, but I have a feeling once the pads come on, he’ll look a lot better. While Mills isn’t an elite pass blocker, he’s got experience and shouldn’t be a turnstile. If he does falter, Jesse Davis just might play RT and maybe of Deiter looks adequate, Chris Reed could slide over to RG with Davis playing RT. In any case, a lot has to happen to give me any kind of confidence in this unit going forward.
At RB, Kenyan Drake is primed to have a big season. Whether he’s the big volume guy as far as carries isn’t important, he should be getting more touches. He’s a HR hitter and we simply need to score more points. Scoring less than 20 PPG won’t cut it, and Drake can help with more touches. What will be fun to watch is who, if anyone, is the volume back. Kalen Ballage is back for his 2nd season and he showed some promise last season. We drafted extremely high volume back Myles Gaskin from Washington. Gaskin had nearly 1000 carries there and over 5300 yards. Lots of miles for Myles, but he potentially could get the lion’s shares of the carries. We have a couple of bowling balls on the roster as well in Kenneth Farrow and Mark Walton (who may face disciplinary action from the NFL for an off the field incident). We’ll see if either guy makes the roster.
ST’s was a solid unit all around, from place kicking with Jason Sanders and punting with Matt Haack, (Rock’s beloved) LS John Denney, and the return team of Kenyan Drake, Jakeem Grant and Kalen Ballage. All were better than average last year and hopefully that will either continue or improve.
After taking a look at the entire team, there’s a few good things that stand out, and a few problems that are hopefully fixed. DE and the O-line are the potential weaknesses, while LB, S and DT a strength. RB and WR are wld cards, because you just don’t know what you can get from this group. If Devante Parker ever plays like we thought he could when we drafted him and catches 60-80 balls with a 12+ YPC average and 8-10 TD’s, along with Stills getting his usual 6-10 TD’s, and we have a consistent run game with the trio of Drake, Ballage and Gaskin, we can be a very competitive team. As usual, lot’s of ifs. No pass rush and no DB stepping up to average or better than average opposite X and we will be in trouble. O-line incapable of either generating a consistent run game or protecting the QB and again, trouble. Here’s hoping for the best!
GO DOLPHINS!!!
#staythecourse

This song is stuck in my head – For Sonny! I know he loves him some Stevie Ray
Krishna – I’m a disgruntled cheerleader. I can’t just say everything is rosy when it isn’t. On the other hand, I root like hell for it to be rosy
Curmudgeon!
Yeah, I guess that’s fair . . .lol
I don’t think I’m being rosy at all…
NOT in a rosy kinda mood to be honest with you.
Hopeful though….what’s the point of ‘stay the course’ then?
From what I can tell they are. Hopeful?
No, don’t get me wrong, I like everything they’re doing now, until it doesn’t come together. How many times have we seen that? I’m happy where we’re heading, I just hope the wheels don’t fall off once we start playing games.
Stanger Buffet is a margin whale, he takes small risks for small gains, just sits on them for 20 years and sells.
of course i dont know more than him, i work harder at the high risk penny stocks he avoids.
im looking for high risk high reward oversold penny stocks, those are the ones that get AI pivot breakouts that will blow Your mind
buffet has no appetite for risk, so he misses out on the best gains, You cannot get huge gains with zero risk, if You could i would buy the snot out of them, lol
i use buffets methods of buging growing companies that are oversold, i just take it to a super risky extreme that he wont with his big time money
penny stocks dont have margins, or big exchange platforms to support them,. so they generally dont bother with them, BOA was up 1 percent, that makes him very happy
David — by now know you are one of the most savvy investors in your ways that there ever was. Just willing to put down as much as you want that your returns don’t beat Buffets each and every day. You understand why that is not even possible I hope?
I’m glad you are making boatloads of money though….. good for you. I’m more a risk adverse guy who buys things like Berkshire Hathaway, but then maybe just not shooting for as much money as you.
The thing about Flores that I like at this time is I get a feel he’ll be coaching the entire team and not just his specialty. He’s been in a lot of roles as an asst. coach and even a scout early on. Being he was coaching under Belichick for 14 years you would think he understands the big picture and what a winning successful team looks like. But as we all know, at some point it’s going to be about winning and finding that success, but that might take awhile.
Every year I get excited about the news coming out of training camp, and I start thinking this regime, this team, this year it is going to be different. I feel that exact same thing right now. If I didn’t, I would probably stop paying attention and find a new diversion, lol.
It’s hard not be excited. New coach focused on foundation, new prospect at QB, some quality pieces on D. Hopefully this is the year this floundering organization begins its turnaround.
Go Dolphins!!!
And, hoping is not being rosy….
Because I’m so old, I’ve been there. Seeing Flores is reminiscent for me. No coach in the modern of the Dolphins has reminded of the past and what it takes.
Just stay the course….
I agree, I like what I see. See Kong’s comment. I feel the same way. It’s an annual hope. I wasn’t saying you were being rosy by the way, I was referring to Andy Cohen who is forever positive. It’s kinda his job.
^era…..it belongs in the comment….sorry.
I know many here love that fact that Flores has said one way or the other we’ll have a fullback on the roster.
It’s cool Mike E. I get the journalistic Dolphin slant.
I can’t stand the Omar Kelly/Armando Seguero take. They are one and the same to me these days. Awful.
I hear you CK and like I said, I’m old so more times than you.
And to Tim Knight’s point, he seems to be a leader of all men, a real coach and not just a specialist. We shall see.
Yep, he seems to be a throwback type of coach. I’m already ready for preseason game one. Can’t wait to see what this team looks like. 🙂
One thing stands out to me in these early days is something I’ve seen Steve mention a couple of times. Flores appears to want to put players in positions that play to their strengths instead of forcing players to adapt to predetermined roles like Gase did. Revolutionary idea. And no fucking bubble screens. YES! lol
The T.N.T. wall that Flores put in place is a punishment for a lack of fundamentals and discipline. The motto is we’re not going to beat ourselves. I don’t think Gase focused on discipline enough and it set us back constantly in games – holding, false starts, PI, personal fouls etc. We may not be talented enough yet to win enough games to make the playoffs, but don’t beat ourselves. That’s what I think he’s trying to instill in his team from day one.
I hate penalties and beating yourself by erasing first downs and starting first and 15. It matters, imo.
Exactly right! it happened to us constantly. We’d move the ball and instead of a new set of downs and marching down the field it’s now 3rd and 17. The team was not disciplined under Gase. That was his biggest failure IMO, not bubble screens and other routes etc. Most teams are running the same stuff. When you execute a play for a nice gain but because of a lack of discipline instead of 2nd and 2 it’s now 1st and 20, or you stopped a team on 3rd and 7 but because of a stupid personal foul it’s now 1st and 10 for the opponent, you lose games playing that way.
Totally agreed on discipline. It’s frustrating to be in 1st and 15 every other set of downs, and not sustainable. Completely disagreed that running 30 bubble screens a game wasn’t an issue, Tim. Most teams use them occasionally, but they don’t build their entire offense around them.
The Gase offense was too gimmicky IMO. One of the things I’m excited to see from Flores is a change to the putrid offense we saw the last couple of years.
Great news that Wilson put on the pads today. Fingers crossed he’s fully healed and ready to go game one!
^
Kong, I hear you about how our offense operated under Gase, but the lack of discipline with penalties created most of our issues. The Pats have been running that short shit for 15 years. They started it and have been a consistent winner since. They are well coached and don’t make a ton of mistakes. They also morph into multiple schemes as games go on. They realize a team took away their short passing game, they counter with a physical running game. They’re getting beat man on man they counter with zone. We did the same friggin thing every week but the main problem was mostly penalties. We were the kings of lost yardage or yardage given away.
Yeah, we can meet in the middle on this. The Pets have definitely shown an offense built around the short passing game can work. The biggest issue with Gase IMO was what you mentioned at the end, he didn’t seem to have that ability to change it up with multiple schemes the way the Pets can when a defense shuts down the short stuff. He just kept going back to bubble screen after bubble screen.
Granted it is hard to truly asses how successful our offense could have been since the lack of discipline we showed would have made any offense fail, not to mention injuries, so point taken there.
However you slice it, we’re installing a new offense, and we can all agree that if it starts with a disciplined team, we’re off to a good start. 🙂
lol ‘assess’
The biggest advantage you can have on O is having a QB that understands how to play the right way, and the ability to get it done, all the greats have it. We dont have that yet, but the next best thing is a TE that keeps drives moving. I say TE, because the rules make it so you cant really beat him up in the middle of the field anymore, and its
the easiest place to throw it.
With that said you may have heard that ours (Gesicki) destroyed Jones yesterday on a play, something he wasn’t capable of last year. That may have been a coming out of sorts, something we desperately need.
Sure its wishful thinking, but…we gave Gase shit for not using him properly last year, but what if he couldn’t be where he is today without going thru what Gase put him thru?
Gesicki is the player I expect to take the biggest leap.
I hope he does, too. I’m pretty sure not only is a TE going to be part of our playbook, but a f’ng FULL BACK to. Is that real?
It was horrible and I found myself yelling about the stupid undisciplined football.
Play a good game without the mistakes and may the better team win.
Shoot yourself in the foot then shoot me in the head because I’m sick of seeing it.
LOL
IMO, most players will tell you they love playing for a players coach, one that isnt a disciplinarian, but dont believe them. They really want a coach that holds the players accountable, so they dont have to. They also really want to win no matter what, until they have won an SB.
Flores and his TNT wall do just that, hold players accountable. As a fan how can you not like that?
Bring back the FB, play smashmouth football, hold players accountable, put players in a position to succeed. Flores for those reasons is off to a good start, but we’ve seen it all before, so I’ll OD it and wait until it happens before I say we’ll be a playoff team in the near future. Flores, Rosen and Gesicki are our future, if they all shine…
See my response to you above about a FB.
Does anyone here think the Patriots are an undisciplined football team? Seriously?
Belichick’s first order of business is do your job. The talent with special plays will come. But you can’t succeed if you make too many mistakes. Nobody is perfect. But games are won and lost between the difference of 4 penalties vs. 10. Turnovers too.
I’m not sure what you’re getting at? I love the discipline Flores has instilled. I just dont know, if it will relate to wins.
Huh? Steveccnv, I agreed with about the TE comment, and then added FB comment. Then, you mentioned FB. Thought we were on same page.
“Getting at?”
I don’t see how discipline/accountability and/or consequences of being stupid are a bad thing.
I can only think/believe it’s part of a winning formula. I could be wrong.
Flores was a 15 year witness and contributor to a winning football team.
Just saying! This is a Democratic Councilman in NJ. People are tired of the nonsense. It’s not right vs. left. It’s moderate vs. far left. The far right does not rule this nation nor will they. Like he says, it’s a false narrative.
Too much party division, not enough bi partisanship patriotism and duty to get constructive things accomplished
Using hate, dehumanizing people and discrimination against race or cr religion is anti constitutional, and straight of the Nazi playbook, its pure fascism, and I won’t be a part of stupidity the Jewish people were hated, discriminated against, and dehumanized, we all know what happened next.
repeating the Nazi mistake or embracing fascism is a lesson that can never be forgotten or tolerated for our own security
National Socialism (Germany/Italy/Japan, North Korea), Democratic Socialism (Russia/USSR), Communist China. They all become elite bodies who decide what life will be. Nothing about freedom. We have a false narrative in this country heading in that direction. It’s so f’n obvious it’s impossible to ignore. But let’s focus on skinheads and white supremacy as if that is what rules the day. How f’n stupid can you be?
How many people here even know hardcore white supremacists? I can tell you who in our government is bat shit socialist crazy though.
The far right in the Republican party is a minority group but their wealth and holier than thou faith oppresses and discriminates against a free people. We all know that.
You don’t see a new wave of far left trying to change the fabric of the country? I know long time Democrats who see it and have know idea what to do. Many of them don’t like Trump as a person. But he’s not friggin Hitler and people with an ounce of intelligence see that.
Do I have to post this pic one more time? Isn’t it cute? LOL

The hardcore white supremacist is at the far left of this image, all of us know this one
The messengers dont need to be attacked, the messages do
If someone doesn’t like Omar’s ideas or policies they want her Bills to pass, they should speak up like intelligent beings why she is wrong, and offer something better.
Reducing her to something subhuman is morally wrong, and proves the message isn’t as important as just silencing or dehumanizing
That isn’t what America should be , Putin must be laughing at us fighting over stupid shit, SMH
It’s what he likes, divide us from within
If any of us truly want America to be great again, fighting amongst ourselves does the opposite.
I think We all want the great country and want to be a part of it.
The only way to do it is ALL of the US citizens to sto fighting each other, and do some constructive work together to actually do good things for the citizens, country, environment, etc
Dehumanizing political opponents is a dangerous dark hole we can’t fall into without deadly consequences
Business, relationships, country, computers, pretty much everything is
You get out of it what You put into it
The song remains the same, u nfortunately lessons are forgotten and mistakes are repeated
The definition of insanity is repeating the same things, but expecting a different result
Thousands of years before the internet, there was a network that still exists today
It’s the human network, we put out thoughts into space, and others receive it
Everything We put out, can be received and returned, some call it kharma, cities, whatever , I call it the human network
Cigils, not cities
David, my last post was a general rant not directed at you. 🙂
No worries, I’m being General in my rants too
I respect everyone here, I just wished we didn’t fight amongst ourselves or our president engage in daily minority dehumanization
It’s a dangerous path we need to do a U turn on IMO
This can’t possibly make America great
We have to stop viewing another ideology evil without listening. Nobody listens anymore. The mantra is set in stone.
My father answered his draft call and went to Germany in the US army to fight the nazis. He told Me plenty about nazis, none of it any good or wanted in this county
We are not a fascist country and should never be, the third Reich experiment was a huge costly failure in human lives lost in the war and the holocaust
Over 100 million people perished in WW2 and the holocaust, because of white supremacy and minority dehumanizing, followed by the final solution
The final solution, happened AFTER the dehumanizations
We can never go down that destructive path IMO
Too late in the night… for another day. A lot of holes in what you said here. A lot of truth too. But it’s not that cut and dried.
no holes, everything i mentioned in that paragraph happenned or i wouldnt have mentioned it. this is a black and white issue, nothing gray about it.
defending nazis wasnt what should have been gotten out of that statement IMO\
rejecting nazis is what America should always do, no holes or excuses, fuck nazis
maybe that clarified the holes
but have a great day
How do you say that?
oye vey???

Mike, have the Mets been reading us? OD predicts the Marlins will catch the Mets, so of course they start to win, then this trade for a pitcher, when they should’ve been acquiring young talent. (Insert Wyoming imoji here)
I’m puzzled by what they’re trying to do. It seems they’ve cornered the market in desirable trade deadline deals. If they move Wheeler, I don’t expect much of a return. If they move Syndergaard, they should get a nice bounty. Either way, what’s the plan for next year and beyond? Not sure
They’ve been the butt of the jokes this morning on ESPN radio.

I see Bernie, AOC and the rest of the idiot socialists (was that redundant?) have already read these.
Yes, You are extremely redundant
Yawn.
Jerome Baker is calling the defensive signals in the huddle. Would have thought would be Raek or Alonso.
He’s the only one that’s going to be on the field every down.
Maybe just getting him used to the head set….. but what I am thinking too. Lots of street cred for a 2nd year guy.
Steve – Another way to look at the Mets trade for Stroman is that they feel like they have a shot at a wild card, which at the moment they are on the far fringe. Their relief pitching did them in for the most part, more than 25 blown games by late relief. That has settled down, and it’s no coincidence they have played and won a lot more games, 10-15 since the All Star break. It’s too soon to be the butt of jokes until the plan is revealed and the results of the plan are realized. The mets are an easy target, I’m well aware of that.
Hey we’re #1!!!!!!!!

He is not a good, honest, or moral person, and it’s not a good idea to listen to anything this Benedict Arnold convicted criminal says about the US that he betrayed
Can’t you find more respectable people than Liddy like Bill Cosby or Charles Manson? Lol. jK
As you would say dont shoot the messenger.
lol good one, but this guys the watergate guy, boo hisss excuse Me for not liking the dude, he screwed up my TV watching summer when i was a kid with impeachment hearings all damn summer.
school started and THEN watergate was over, WTF cant a little kid on summer break get some justice, lol

We take from those that have, then give the rest to those that don’t.
i can post plenty to expose the republican party, but that wasnt my goal, i just put some jokes up to avoid pointless arguments
LOL, agreed. I think SB7 hit the nail on the head yesterday. That was BPOY.
i just listed some quotes Cav, no worries, i thought most were funny, especially the last one
we can always laugh or cry, its more fun to laugh though.
but i also think Piggy s post was the best, to each his own
I’m not singling you out, David. You just happen to be posting right now. I was speaking about the board as a whole.
Cav, this is a football blog, no one is testing to see how much knowledge others have on politics, its more like idle discussion.
im 100 percent certain You wouldnt like hearing everything i know over the next several years, and i have no intention to do it,
and I am certain i wouldnt want to hear 20 posters posting every single thing they know, and then handing out grades later, this isnt a University and im not a professor, lol
so, its a moot point
Like, I said, SB7 hit the nail on the head, lol.
Cav, to be quite frank about it, politics are a sticky subject around here, and yes i have engaged in it as much as anyone else have.
i do try and refrain from going after posters, but will answer and put my 2 cents in at times
there probably isnt a good way to discuss politics here, lol somebody wont like something and take it personal , and a bug fuss envelops
i think we need the season to start, lol im ready to discuss how we got our first win on game one! september is almost here
im very excited for the season, maybe more than i should be because i think this team is a sleeper. we will surprise some folks that thought we were an easy game on their schedule
im sticking with my prediction of a wild card berth, and id rather argue about the wild card versus politics, lol
ok cue the WTF David, we are not a wild card team,,,,,,,,,,,,
Im ready to respond to that, and i consider myself somewhat of a wild card expert, lmao JK
“The O-line, a perennial worry, once again is exactly that.”
Ugh!!!!
Hope you’re all well! Go fins! Sorry for being so mia! Thanks for the write ups Mike E!
Jahn Doh in the house! welcome back

Here are some of my personal beliefs.
IF you believe your party is better than another party, then you are part of the game and are pretty much done thinking for yourself. If you think you can trust a politician, you are are part of the game and done thinking for yourself. If you think any of them care for anything but to stay in power, you are part of the game and you are done thinking for yourself. If you listen to anything the media says about any politician and believe it, you are part of the game and you are done thinking for yourself.
Hard core republicans are cold and uncaring, they will do what they feel needs to and without any compassion to search for a better alternative. Hard core democrats are liars, they prey on the ignorant and helpless. One group turns their back on a chunk of the population seeing them as insignificant and the others enslave them by making them dependent on government aid and use them to get re-elected.
Its a big trash heap that has needed to be set on fire for a long ass time and now setting it on fire is going to cause shit to burn out of control.
That pretty much sums it up D.
Well said.
corruption is rampant in both parties, that is for sure
it sure would be nice if an independent could become president with a centrist view and policies that benefit all Americans, and unite the country so we are strong, and work together as one, instead of party bickering
but the two parties are extremely powerful, any independent candidate has almost impossible odds stacked against them before they even run
our best hope is a centrist democrat or a centrist republican, because an independent candidate will only draw votes away from one party or the other
“LMAO — kids that age are hard to coach. You ever watch them play soccer? It’s like one big blob no matter what positions they are told to play.”
________
Stanger,
you caught onto a grand conspiracy! The ORANGES make them all sticky and that way the coaches and parents can keep track of them on the field! Bunch ball!
Every once in a wild the ball gets kicked out of the blob and then the blob forms again. Good to see you Jahn.
Good to see you Jahn. Not surprised the OL isn’t up to speed yet. Only 3 OL that played for us last year are on the team, the rest are all new.
Make that 4 – Tunsil, Kilgore, Davis and Sterup. Kilgore only played in the first 4 games until he went down for the year.
Thanks Tim, yeah, I just read that line and got de ja vu all over again. It’s been like this for SOOOOO long!
I hear ya!
Good to see ya, Jahn! Hope all is well with the brewery business.
Thanks Cav! It’s keeping me busy, and better yet, employed! We just started distributing to Los Angeles and are opening a 2nd taproom soon so hopefully the momentum holds.
That is awesome, bro! When are we going to start seeing you up in Norcal? My wife is a beer connoisseur. So when you start distributing up north let me know and we’ll be on the look out. Great to see you on the board. 🙂
Some only want to live in the past.
Some only want to live in the future.
Most are doing their best to live right now.
Here we go again. LOL
This is odd.
WTF?
Was he snorting coke off a hooker’s belly like the last guy? lol
That is a fairly straight forward answer. Flaherty has 15 years experience as an offensive line coach and was Oline coach for both the Giants SB wins over the Pets. I wonder what he had trouble implementing. Interesting.
D I’m going to plagiarizer the shit out of your personal beliefs! 😉
Maybe Phins thought they had better.
—————
Miami announced the firing of Pat Flaherty just moments ago, revealing that they’ve promoted analyst Dave DeGuglielmo to take his place as Miami’s offensive line coach. DeGuglielmo was a critical piece of the Indianapolis Colts’ 2018 turnaround as their offensive line coach, but he was not retained by the Colts. Why? Because DeGuglielmo was actually a hire of Josh McDaniels — who accepted the Colts job offer verbally before backing out at the eleventh hour to stay with the Patriots.
DeGuglielmo had already signed his contract in Indianapolis and the Colts honored his contract in 2018. The end result? Their offensive line went from one of the worst in the league to one of the best.
Damn, so frigging incompetent that he got fired even before the end of pre-season. Thats pretty fucking bad. Was he a Pats guy or a hold over from last regime?
Damn nevermind i just looked it up. He came from the Jags, wow, i mean their OL wasnt impressive, i wonder if they just thought he might fit better with us. His resume wasn’t overly impressive.
Cav,
More recently though he has been the OL coach of several poor OL’s. I think the 2016 9’ers OL was one of the worst they had had in several years, the Jags were bad. I know the last few years he was with the Giants shit was really sliding on the OL for them and they have been in a mess since.
Yeah, I really couldn’t honestly tell you about any of those other olines, so if you say they were bad, ok I’ll believe it. Makes me wonder why was he hired in the first place?
Of course if he really was struggling to implement anything after 15 years coaching that position, then we’re lucky to be rid of him, lol.
He was hand picked by Flores, lol.
Or maybe DeGuglielmo was.
Well, can’t be ‘or’ since we know Flores hired Flaherty. Might be ‘and’ though.
Jahn,
Sounds like your business is progressing well. Glad to hear it man. Also as soon as you get super big and start that sour brewing facility, let me know so i can buy some of the first ones ya roll off the line.
Jahn’s brews are pretty much amazing. One Fest might have been the first time ever drunk in South Florida…… some of that stuff kicks your ass.
Didnt realize it but DeGuglielmo is on his third stint with us.
So Flores didn’t like what he saw from Pat Flaherty and as strange as that is, good thing we already had an experienced OL coach in-house in Dave DeGuglielmo who was the Pats OL coach in 14-15.
strange turn of events, but i guess we roll with it
We have no choice. LOL
Jahn, too funny you come on here after awhile and post a quote about the OL still struggling, and BOOM!!!… the next thing we hear is they fired our OL coach. LOL
He was actually taking a line from my article Tim. It’s still funny though.
our new OL coach, Dave Deguglielmo turned the colts offensive line last year from a liability to a strength, and was the Fins OL coach during Miami 2008 wildcat wildcard berth
its been awhile since Miami had a good OL, but in case anyone forgot what that was, go back and look at some wildcat higlights and take note of the excellent blocking
on paper, this looks like a good move, except the timing is rather strange, but it appears our OL is in good hands with coach D
I think the Colts OL turning around was also about improving personnel lead by Quenton Nelson who made 1st team all pro and the pro bowl as a rookie. He was as good as advertised.
good point, thats a great OL Imo
but we can also claim maybe a part of his development was due to his coach D,
and we remember the wildcat wildcard berth,
so Coach D comes in with experience and some success, hopefully that continues
Hey Jahn! Glad to see you here bud! Also happy to hear all is going well. When will there be a brewery near the east coast?
Me thinks Flores is brutal
vacation ended for players and coaches, its get it done or pink slip time
players and coaches running to the TNT wall, coaching changes, Flores is running a strict, no nonsense camp, and performance is demanded, not expected or hoped for, demanded
Flores appears driven, these are the kind of guys you get the F out of their way and let them get the job done
Flores is definitely a no nonsense guy.
Kong – I think Flores saw Flaherty throwing out the straw from his 7-11 big gulp and he said “That’s it, pack your shit, you’re outta here man!”
LOL, and visions of Philbin danced in his head.
Coach Gase probably wouldnt have made this move IMO
he didnt even notice what Foerster was doing for quite awhile, or if he did know, thats even worse
one things for certain, Flores is no BS, and has zero tolerance for non perfomance or non team play
it truly is his way or the highway, he is the HC, and is making that very clear
I think Gase is also like that, he certainly made sure to get rid of the players that didn’t do things the way he wanted them to. On the other hand, I don’t think he’s as hands on with the coaches as Flores seems to be. I think Gase was too trusting of all the guys he brought in. He should have got rid of Matt Burke
good point
Gase got the GM who helped hire him in NY fired after the draft and won the power battle. I agree he’s pretty cut throat too.
Some good stuff on the TEs.

Time for you to retire. LOL
Actually I’ve heard quite a few people who know more than Omar say they think Rosen is a starting NFL QB.
OMAR, WTF Rosen has looked sharp the last two practices, completing deep balls with tight spirals
why does he hate QB so much? his job is a reporter, not a QB hater
many others have said Rosen practiced well and described in detail
we all know FItz has started for some teams, and Rosen beat out Fitz soundly the last two practices, how is that not looking like a starting QB?
Omar doesnt look like a starting QB, nor a good reporter either
but Rosen does look the part, and anyone with two functioning brain cells to rub together knows its only 4 practices, and he will only improve as he gets more familiar with the offense, and the game slows down for him
if Omar thought Rosen was going to be 1984 Marino, what a dumb thing to expect
Assclown. We don’t even know anything about Dr Rosen Rosen yet. Certainly not enough to compare him to Chad “never seen snow” Henne or Ryan “what’s a TE” Tannehill, smh.
It’s not patience brigade stuff to have hope about Dr Rosenpenis in his first year as a Fin, lol.
This from the guy who doesn’t talk QBs and tells everyone to take your eye off the ball. LOL
LOL
Gotta love Omar “whattaya mean I stink of mediocrity” Kelly.
Oh thats what that smell was, i thought it was his breath because he is constantly spewing shit.
” Patience Brigade must be retired” — it’s like some of at least are somebody, even if we need to retire. Wonder if the Omar Twitter Nation knows the history on that .
The braided coconut should retire. Was that Top that picked out that name for him?
home
Nobody knows what Rosen will become. But if you view him like a MLB pitching prospect, he’s got the tools. He has prototype size, solid athletic ability and big time arm talent. But Omar the QB whisperer has already told us to give up on him. It’s comical. LOL
To me it really doesn’t matter what we all think, its what he shows on the field and i think just by virtue of the FO liking him enough to trade for him, we should let him have that chance before sailing him down the river.
Agreed.
I knew it was time to ignore him today when he rolled out the “New Bae” shit.
Yeah he is so condescending and he doesn’t realize it. Would love to see him come up with a condescending name for Wilkins. 😉
That “New Bae” thing was the last of many last straws for me, lol.
agreed, what kind of beat reporter does New Bae, thats pathetic
Omar says, “Aren’t you Dolphins fans tired of making excuses for mediocre quarterbacks just because they are white?”
There. I fixed it to say what he meant.
The reason I call out Omar and Mando at times is because doesn’t it seem like they try their best to shit on fans’ excitement? Do they get off on it? Have they ever been wrong?
Henne had 4 years in Miami and didn’t pan out. Tannehill had 7 and although he was much better than Henne he never reached that next level. Rosen has what… 13 games with an ARZ team as a rookie that were horrible and ended up with the #1 pick. It’s silly!
It’s been easy to forget how highly coveted Rosen was coming out of UCLA.
Even in a draft class with Baker Mayfield and Sam Darnold, as well as fellow top 10 pick Josh Allen and another first-rounder in Lamar Jackson, Rosen was considered the best pure passer in last year’s class.
Mechanically, Rosen was nearly flawless. Athletically, even though he was somewhat limited, Rosen has a diverse background that made him anything but a statue in the pocket.
The only significant concerns surrounding Rosen were his injury history and whatever you thought of his personality.
As a football player, Rosen’s abilities weren’t ever really in question.
His velocity may not have been as good as Mayfield’s and Darnold’s, but Rosen could put the ball where it needed to be with regularity and most people felt like he had franchise QB potential.
That potential did not die in Arizona.
Fansided
Jahn, too funny you come on here after awhile and post a quote about the OL still struggling, and BOOM!!!… the next thing we hear is they fired our OL coach. LOL
Mike E. says:

He was actually taking a line from my article Tim. It’s still funny though.

Lol Tim! We’ve got some magical beetlejuice like powers Mike E! Haha!
🙂
It was really much more you Jahn, I said this last week. The only credit I can take is writing it, your timing was impeccable.
LOL
Tim – The Mets traded Vargas to the Phillies for a minor league catcher. Not a great return there, the kid is already 26YO.
What are they doing?
Seems like a salary cap dump for a position we need some depth and competition at. Best case scenario for this catching prospect is he’s a late bloomer and/or a serviceable platoon guy.
It’s the opposite strategy as the move yesterday.
Van Wagenen inherited Vargas 36 and traded for Stroman 28. The Mets don’t have a lot invested in Stroman.
I think we should invite Piggy to a luau for his political views. Jahn can bring the beer.
I’ll bring the marinade
He is a Woke pig =) genius ;level
Steve – I don’t think they really loved Vargas. I think they like the kid Lockett better than Vargas as a 5th starter
None of the trades the Mets made were big time or part of the big picture. Stroman is on a pitch to stay and get a new deal. Below is peanuts for a starting pitcher.
https://www.spotrac.com/mlb/new-york-mets/marcus-stroman-15687/
Mike, I dont know shit about the Mets, I’m JBB
Cubs suck badly on the road this year. CAV, you guys will be in solo 1st this week I bet.
Big series starting tomorrow for the two of us. I’m kinda surprised by how well we’re playing and how the Cubs have fallen off a bit. I really thought you guys would run away with the division this year.
Not so rosy for Rosen on day 4 in TC and I’ve read several articles saying the same:
https://dolphinswire.usatoday.com/2019/07/29/both-dolphins-quarterbacks-struggle-on-day-4-of-training-camp/amp/
I hope he succeeds, but may have PTSD….he has all year to prove himself. If it takes that long, so be it.
The problem with the media about TC is it’s practice. You make good decisions and bad and learn from it. That’s what practice for anything is. There are no games on the line. It’s not a performance. Unless you’re completely incompetent which Rosen isn’t, these reports mean little. This team is very new in a lot of ways. This is not any sort of an established team.
I believe this entire Phase I season will be a learning curve. 2020 Phase II will be another purge with preferred talent brought in.
For us fans, there really is nothing to panic about this year. It’s about building the foundation. Some pundits don’t think we’ll even win a game. LOL
Well said.
OL must be cursed or blessed, oh my:
https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.thephinsider.com/platform/amp/2019/7/29/8938019/miami-dolphins-fire-ol-coach-pat-flaherty-promote-dave-deguglielmo
I’ll call it addition by subtraction, Googs is pretty good coach.
Coaches are held accountable:
https://phinphanatic.com/2019/07/29/miami-dolphins-firing-flaherty-message-players/
The Colts oline improvement last year couldn’t possibly have had anything to do with Luck coming back. Nah, horse hockey.
Well the reason Luck was out for so long was because his protection almost got him literally killed with interior bleeding, rib contusions and a f’d up shoulder where he couldn’t even throw a football for the better part of a year. They added an elite talent in Nelson and found a solid group from their starting 5. So no it’s not horse hockey.
To be good this year we’ll need to be a top 10 running team, because most of the playoff teams from last year were top 10. There’s some truth to that, but I’m going to have to add an edit to that stat, based on everyone’s favorite edit😉
4th quarter rushing stats don’t count, because they’re a product of a team playing with a lead something most winning teams do.
To me 4th quarter rushing and a 4th quarter pass rush are the keys to winning.
unless it is 4th quarter run stopping so they can’t run out the clock on you when you are behind?
You missed the point. Teams that are winning in the 4th qtr run the ball more than teams that are losing, so if you’re going to say playoff teams win, because they have more rushing yards, then you have to remove 4th qtr runs.
we have a full back and a couple of TE’S that are good run blockers in Smythe and Oleary. They are going to run the ball.
Wooo hooo!
I was once a founding member of the Patience Brigade. NO MORE!
#RDS
Patience with young prospects never goes away. History tells us this. 🙂
I’ll be patient again with ‘my guy’ you know that LOL
LOL
I dont see anything special with Rosen and we need someone special at QB. Maybe he can be that gap guy with solid play until we get someone special, but I’d be surprised if he’s anything more than that.
He couldn’t impress much on his day off, but he did beat out Flaherty today, lol
Seriously be patient with Rosen, he’s well coached with a lot of upside, he is a well polished pure passer type with good size and makes good reads
This is his first chance with a real NFL team, lol
Cards are pathetic
How could you?

I like Hyde
https://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/dave-hyde/fl-sp-hyde5-dolphins-fire-assistant-20190730-k7tkisena5aaxlexv46x5fpcpy-story.html
Hyde knows his shit, I like him too
Let Shula be the judge of who knows their shit 😉
I wonder, if Flores benched Raekwon to get his full attention, since we play the Ravens week 1 with that running QB Jackson.
Raekwon was never benched and week one means nothing at this time. Wait until they’re down to the 53 and the real depth chart means something.
Could it be that Eguavoen has just performed really well in practice and has earned the snaps instead of it being a knock on Raekwon?
Just connecting Sunday’s TC with today’s new start. Thought it was interesting.
