2019 Season Game 1 – Miami Dolphins vs Baltimore Ravens

The 2019 season for the Miami Dolphins is about to start for real this coming Sunday at 1PM. Both teams have had some radical makeovers, neither team is particularly recognizable from the teams that played last season. Both long time starting QB’s are playing for other AFC teams, Ryan Tannehill for Tennessee and Joe Flacco for Denver. Also gone from the Ravens are Terrell Suggs, C.J. Mosely, Eric Weddle and Michael Crabtree. Gone from the Dolphins are Laremy Tunsil, Cam Wake, Kiko Alonso and Kenny Stills.

The Dolphins have officially made the change to a 3-4 base defense. After jettisoning most recently DE Tank Carradine, newly acquired DT John Jenkins will line up at LDE, Davon Godchaux at NT and rookie Christian Wilkins at RDE. Sam Eguavoen at LOLB, Raekwon McMillan at LILB and Jerome Baker at RILB with and Charles Harris at ROLB. Xavien Howard and Eric Rowe are the starting CB’s with the safeties being Reshad Jones and Bobby McCain. That different enough for ya?!?!

On offense, recently traded for LT Julie’n Davenport makes his first start as a Miami Dolphin. Next to him at LG is rookie Michael Deiter. Veteran Daniel Kilgore starts at C with rookie Shaq Calhoun starting at RG. Jesse Davis will be the starter at RT. WR’s DeVante Parker and Jakeem Grant will be on the outside with Albert Wilson in the slot. Mike Gesicki will be the starting TE. Kenyan Drake will be the starting RB along with Kalen Ballage as the backup but I expect both backs to get to a similar workload. Mark Walton, Patrick Laird and Myles Gaskin will also get a sprinkle of touches, but more than likely we’ll only put 4 backs on the game day roster and that will include FB Chandler Cox.

It will be interesting to see how this young OL fares against the Ravens D. I’m not expecting a lot, it could be ugly at times.I’m not especially interested in watching QB Ryan Fitzpatric play, although hopefully Fitzmagic shows up on Sunday. Can DeVante Parker have a strong start? Probably not as I expect a strong dose of the run game. I don’t know if either Drake or Ballage will find much room but I expect close to 30 carries or more for us.

On defense I’m curious to see how all the parts work in the 3-4 base. Odd that Jenkins isn’t at the nose and Godchaux at DE. Hopefully we can generate some pass rush with some well disguised blitzes and keep the Ravens guessing as to where the rush is coming from. Harbaugh is an excellent coach and the Ravens a very disciplined team. We’ve seen the Ravens shred us for years, maybe the guys on the field for us will do better as most of them weren’t a part of that.

In summation, I just want us to look prepared, and I want us to be aggressive on defense. I expect a conservative game plan on offense to keep us in this game. Coach Flo won’t be caught sitting at the end of the bench by himself drawing up plays on his tablet during the game. I expect a low scoring affair, not too unlike what we saw last night from Chicago and Green Bay.

  13. Ken's avatar Ken says:

I actually don’t like the idea of putting Rosen in when they did. They put him into a situation where there is no way he could be successful. Pass rush just going to tee off on him and no hope in game. I don’t like that decision

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

      I tend to agree
      Worst situation for a QB

It would not have been so bad the other way around
Rosen starts and Fotz comes off bench
      Bc Fitz is a vet

But Rosen is still young and this isn’t a good situation for him

    • agreed, also the decision to start fitzpatrick was flawed.
bringing in Rosen when down 52-10?

we cant blame Rosen for this loss, the defense was horrible too, this team has along ways to go before its competitive with other teams

    That’s called Canada πŸ˜‰

  35. that was one of the worst defensive perfomances i have ever seen, is that the same Flores defense we saw in the super bowl?

Flores gets an F for his debut, he coached the game like it was a preseason game
very vanilla, defense wasnt moving presnap and confusing the offense, no pass rush, little coverage, just always out of position

and on offense? he started a QB that tossed an NFL record breaking 8th INT for 8 different teams, who did his thing before Rosen was handed a huge deficit, 52-10 late in the game

even the calling timeout near the end, Flores was just wanting to get Rosen another pass or two to evaluate him, like a preseason game

the game was 60 minutes long, its ridiculous to try to get Rosen a pass or two when the score is 59-10

Flores got his lunch handed to him today, he will have to make dramatic improvement along with the vast majority of the team. 59-10 is ridiculous, and we have no defense against critics claiming We are tanking, all signs point to tank job. jus sayin

  36. manitobafinfan's avatar manitobafinfan says:

He just didn’t want to show Patriots our playbook for next week 🀑

  37. Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

I thought the defense would be better. It was horrendous.

  38. Flores will need to work much harder on coming up with a pass rush, and getting our secondary in better position
we dont have Wake anymore, so he will have to come up with presnap moving, exotic packages, whatever it takes to get heat on the QB,s

you cant give an NFL QB, a clean jersey and open receivers, they will pick us apart

  39. BailBondMike's avatar BailBondMike says:

Maybe we can make a trade with Jax for Fitz.

  44. One coach who spoke to the Dolphins about their head coaching job in January, said Ross conveyed that their intent was not to win this year and the whole objective was to be positioned to draft their future quarterback in 2020 and build around that player.

i dont know if this report is true or not,
but Ross is smiling, his plan is working to perfection, make a ton of money, the hell with the 2019 team, tank the season, and try again next year

    • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Whether he explicitly said that or not….. can’t help but agree with you that is the smart move. Probably why Ross got so rich.

      • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Was doing just fine. The ravens travel well and they are pretty cool even if they are those cold weather stand up guys. Think how they say warm when it is freezing.

One interesting part was looks like home side and visitors side have really broken up into that. You can tell from the colors. Think it is cause visitors side down low still gets the sun so the season holders chose other side, even if not as close to the 50 (but that just my guess).

ross says the season ticket holders should bend over and say,

thank You sir, may i have another? lol

i knew the season ticket customers would be unhappy with a cheap counterfeit product, its going to be a tough season

Whoa, whoa there Captain Obvious. First you knew the game today was going to be a blow out and now you know the season ticket holders are going to be unhappy ? Wow! Can you give me some stock tips…..uh…no…wait…strike that.

No one is happy about this, I certainly don’t imagine Ross is happy about it, I’m sure he’d rather have a Super Bowl contender year in, year out. Of course it’s going to be a tough season, hopefully by gutting it, getting a new coach, a bunch of draft picks, all the stuff they are doing will pay off later. It’s how it goes. As for the season ticket holders, no one is holding a gun to their heads making them buy tickets. It’s all part of being a fan of a team. Ross didn’t take a top tier team and gut it just because he’s cheap and doesn’t want to spend the money. He’s actually seemed more than willing to spend it as far as I’ve read on the subject.

    • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Herd — if the team really sucks bad for a number of years….. I might just buy seasons. Problem is no one wants to get off the list for those except the fringe ones that aren’t really that good anyhow. Nice of David to worry about the season ticket holders though. Big heart.

      • herdfan's avatar herdfan says:

And that’s the point. For every person wanting to sell their tickets, there’s someone thinking of buying. I really don’t think David is worrying about season ticket holders either. Just taking a shot at Ross. Whatever.

    • Of course I knew, I’ve been saying it for weeks.
It was an easy call because this is Ross plan and he owns the team. It’s not my decision to tank for Tua, it’s his
And no You don’t get any stock tips

      • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Completely agree with you that Ross is playing it right. Whether Tua or not. What else where they going to do? We’ll see how it works out.

    • herdfan's avatar herdfan says:

I really think there’s something wrong with him, or as they say around here, that boy ain’t right! πŸ™‚

      • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

It’s only one game, but Gase needed to win that game, and they came up short. There’s talent on that team, but I’m not a believer that Gase does anything to extract more talent out of a team.

  51. No one is prophetic, nor is it needed. I denied the tanking narrative until Flores decided to start Fitz, and the team was gutted for cheap nobodies.
Then I could no longer deny the obvious

This is Ross plan, and he is doing it whether we like it or not. He has decided to weather the storm in 2019, go cheap as hell,, lose games, pick Tua or another QB if they move ahead of Tua ,and take a shot in 2020

    • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Agreed. Lots of folks talked to in the stadium today were pretty much saying “about time.” Ross is doing it right was the general consensus. And lots of excitement about free agency and the draft next year. People are feeling we can be that team. We’ll see if it works out, but least giving it the shot.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

David – There’s a difference between making trades to stockpile picks for the future and gutting the team to cut down the salary. I don’t understand where the disconnect is. Trading Tunsil and Stills (Stills you know wasn’t long for this team anyway) to get back early picks next year and the year after isn’t the same as cutting veterans to save money. In either case, we’re still paying these players, so it’s a not a cost saving move, it’s a move to improve this team next year and the years beyond. It’s not tanking either. Tanking means intentionally trying to lose. We were outclassed by the Ravens, just like we’ve been for as long as I can remember. This was worse than usual, but we’ve been thrashed by them almost every time we play them. You do realize we still have pay Tunsil and Stills, right? If you do, then what you say makes no sense.

Well, that appears to be what’s happening after the Dolphins’ 59-10 loss to the Ravens on Sunday. According to a report from Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio, multiple players placed calls to their agents after the game to ask for a trade out of Miami.

Nobody likes tanking, especially in a brutal sport like football where a wasted season affects those small career windows. So, you can’t blame the Dolphins for not being on board with the two-year race for Trevor Lawrence. But after Week 1? Spirits are not high in that locker room.

Flores will not willingly look horrible against Billie and the Pats.. he will prepare the shit out these guys… whether that is enough is another story , but I believe we will see a much better effort at least.. even if the score ends up as bad .. cause they dismantled the Steelers tonight

One good thing though. Belicheck likes to take away the teams strength when he gameplans.. he won’t get much sleep this week looking for who to take away 🀭

We did so much churning before week one and we looked like it. It won’t be 59-10 ever week folks. LOL

    • Agreed too much roster churning, we have seen that before and it didn’t work

Next week will be extremely difficult with a team lacking in talent and commitment , to take on the defending champs

Remember , the commitment to win comes from the top, owner, HC, etc
They have failed in that department, there is no commitment to win this year and many players want out

If the commitment to win is not there ‘ we can’t expect the brand new cheap players to beat the defending champs

Ross put his house up for sale, he seems to be cashing in his chips

hopefully the team sale is next

  93. Cam Wake had a monster day, , 2.5 sacks and a safety

Dolphins had no pass rush, the team is missing too many veterans to be able to compete,

it doesn’t get any easier with the cheats on deck

  94. Ross has damaged the team severely, and Flores says we aren’t tanking, , SMH
    If 59-10, isn’t tanking yet,,,,

The season ticket holders had to pay upfront, before most of the talent was traded away

It’s bait and switch, ask for the top price for something good,
But then get the money, and deliver a cheap, inferior counterfeit product,

Ross is totally ripping off the customers, who already paid and expected something much better than what they got

They can’t get full refunds after the trades were made, what a scam
