2020 Season – Week 1 – Dolphins @ Patriots

This is easily the strangest opening to a season that I can remember. I don’t recall knowing this little about our team at this point of the season, just 3 days before our season opener. What I do know is our team is a very young team, 2 of the young ones pictured will likely determine our success or demise this Sunday. Rookie starting LT Austin Jackson is getting his first start of hopefully a very long successful career but it will be difficult task going up against a Bill Belichick team. It doesn’t matter what the names are on the New England defense, he will disguise and confuse even the savviest OL, so both Austin Jackson (LT) and big Solomon Kindley (RG) will have to be on point. If you were to subtract the age of our starting QB Ryan Fitzpatrick, we’re trotting out a very young team. Jackson (21), Flowers (26), Karras (27), Kindley (23) and Davis, the elder statesman at 29. Devante Parker (27), Preston Williams (23), Jakeem Grant (27), Mike Gesicki (24), Durham Smythe (25), Jordan Howard (25) and Chandler Cox (24). The average of the 12 listed (including both TE Durham Smythe and FB Chandler Cox) is 25 years old. Throw in these important factors, very little practice time, no preseason games, a lot of new faces put together, facing a seasoned master in Bill Belichick and there is a chance that many things can go wrong. On the other hand, I think Flores will have our team prepared and I do believe we can see success against the Patriots this Sunday.

That was just our offense, our defense is quite young as well. I’ll spare you the lists with ages but the average age is 25.5 years old. LB Kyle Van Noy is the elder at 30 on the defense. The depth is really young as well, on both sides. It’s a great start in year 1 of the rebuild, it really is. Yes, it was disappointing to jettison Raekwon McMillan who no longer fit our needs because we’ve been doing this for a long time, drafting talent, changing schemes and then purging the talent that doesn’t fit. Hopefully with Flores and Grier we’re done with that cycle. Picking up WR/RB/QB Lynn Bowden from the Raiders make me think we’re not going to be the 1 WR, 2 TE rushing attack a lot of the time. I think we’re looking for playmakers all over the place and in today’s NFL, that’s wise. You have to score to keep up. Nothing like being able to run a game out but you have to be up in order to do that. You can’t stop the best teams from scoring, that’s a fact. You have to be able to keep up. I don’t really know what to expect from our defense. I know we have really shored up the back end with a quality secondary by adding Byron Jones to Xavien Howard for s shutdown duo of CB’s and a fine young rookie NB in Noah Igbinoghene. Bobby McCain will be the centerfielder while Eric Rowe will likely be closer to the LOS. What will be interesting to see how we use the LB’s and DL and in what combinations. Baker and Roberts will patrol the middle with Ogbah and Van Noy on the outside. Of course there will be various formations and Lawson and Strowbridge and Van Ginkel will be a part of. Looking forward to seeing all the pieces in play and even if we’re not successful this Sunday, at least hoping we see signs that things are going to be better.

I look forward to seeing DeVante Parker starting strong and seeing Preston Williams all the way back from injury. Can Jakeem Grant hold off the competition for slot play from Mack Hollins, Malcolm Perry and Lynn Bowden? Will we actually be able to run the ball effectively? Will our young OL be able to pass protect for Ryan Fitzpatrick or will he be running for his life as he did last season. Will our front 7 be able to generate a pass rush for a change? Will the three headed CB combo of Howard, Jones and Iggy be one of the NFL’s best? Can Rowe make the switch to safety and is Bobby Mac ready to resume his role of safety and stay healthy? A lot of questions loom, as the even bigger question that is silent at the moment, but you know when does Tua play is lurking not so stealthily in the shadows. It’s there, because as soon as Fitz has his bad day, it will rear it’s ugly head and be right there in the forefront. For now at least, it hides.

Keep in mind that Bill Belichick desperately wants to answer the question “Was it Belichick or Brady” with a resounding Belichick! Tom Brady, sickeningly so has been anointed NFC MVP and is already in the fucking Superbowl against Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs. It’s disgusting! I guess the NFL needs a storyline and now instead of seeing New England Patriots 24/7 it’s the freaking Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Brady every second. I think Brady has the better chance to succeed with all that talent on the roster but never count the master Belichick out. True, he won’t have his stalwart QB Brady running the offense anymore and I’m not much of a Cam fan, I think he’s been one of the most overrated QB’s in the game. I don’t think he deserves a marquis, he’s a JAG. If he’s healthy, he’s a threat to run and I think that’s where he’s most dangerous to the opposition. If he’s back there slinging it, I think he’s more dangerous to his own team. It’s going to be fun watching this game, so many angles to come together to make this game a must watch.

GO DOLPHINS!!

Cam, we don’t care. You are a punk and were over acting just like a punk. Your team mates should have let go of you so you could get your ass beat down for your over acting. End of story.

Didn’t seem the Panther’s front office cared al that much about keeping him either. Attitude he does have. Might be part of why the Pats got him so cheap.

Especially given it was the Pats, they looked presentable. Rush D bugged the heck out of me, but understand was a most unusual situation. Waiting to see what we do against a passing team. Sorta of what we are built for.
    ——————————————————–
You are just better off with the mobile QB’s not to over pursue so the all our rush is damaging, Its better to flush them out and make him scramble out to where you are kinda waiting. If you have good seasoned DE’s, they can pull off both, because the recognize and fall out of the rush and into contain, but being its game 1 and they wanted to contain, they probably told them not to sell out on the rush

Just one game but it is starting already. Whole lot of make a headline that will be clicked on guys are calling for Tua to start. Not talking about our beat reporters at this point at least, more the same people who were saying “Tanking for Tua.” Don’t think they need to know much about the team, just a way to get clicks.

But Fitz has been in the league a good while and went to Harvard….. am sure he knew what he was in for.
    ——————————————————————
You knew it ws only a matter of time before they started that. Its a new shiny toy and they wants to plays withs itsssss my precious!

  6. D's avatar D says:

Allen isnt as much of a threat in RPO as CAM and the CAM game tape will help them be better prepared. I think this is great to have a back to back chance for the team to grow.

  7. D's avatar D says:

Cam has always had a shitty attitude. He left UF because he didnt wanna wait behind Tebow, and he literally left right before he was going to be the starter. He was getting in trouble stealing things back then even though he comes from a fairly wealthy home, so that tells you he just wants the attention,he will get it however he can, like calling out players trying to rip off his chain. I Never wore my chain when i played, thats just dumb to start with in a game where grabbing you and pullingis part of the action.

  8. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

So I think, with my new fantasy success I should do a solid for the community and give some fantasy pointers

    1. Complete lack of preparation. I didn’t read anything about any player rankings for the 2020 year. I wasn’t even sure we were going to play football in 2020.

    2. Autodraft. As I was requesting links yesterday to watch the game I thought about asking when our draft was.

    3. I forgot my password. That’s right: I only logged on after hearing you guys talk about my score. My last log in was probably November 2019.

If you follow these steps, you too can be a fantasy football colossus!

  9. D's avatar D says:

We are slowly but surely losing standard QB technique to RPO, so this test was a good one and next week is a good next one and not just for the players but the coaches, the change to the NFL had already started but its quickly getting there to where soon thats the way all team we will be. We will be too once Tua takes over.

    • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

If that is the way all teams will be then we are building the wrong D. Could have used McMillan on Sunday.

      • D's avatar D says:

No we are building the right D, we just need the players to get use to those schemes and learn their jobs. Our D is made for the assignment football thats needed sometimes to shut down RPO, we did a decent job once we switched to that scheme, but early on we weren’t doing that, there was no spy there was no shallow LB. We will get there, we have the right players and the right D, we just didnt start the game calling it that way. Coach’s probably knew we might have to swap to it but you try to do it and maintin your game plan, and just switch to assigment once its start breaking down. Eventually we will be able to do the fluid style he wants to run, without the assignment but its baby steps at this point.

      • D's avatar D says:

Ill agree with you that McMillan wouldhave helped some, he would have helped the up the gut stuff when the RB’s were sliping through the center, but like i was saying, you need your DL to shut that down and while they did ok in some aspects, they really werent clogging the running lanes in the middle well, at least Wilkins wasnt. McMillan is a liability against RPO as far as stopping the guys once they bounce it outside, he wouldnt have helped with Cam at all. Baker is the type of guy you want going against a Cam Newton, he will get there and he did a great job considering he was doing most of all the sideline to sideline stuff on his own.

  10. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I was just in a shitty mood yesterday with the way we played and then I lost the feed and couldn’t watch the entire game. No it wasn’t the worst game ever or anything and yes we have a lot of new players and young players with no PS. Hopefully we clean it up.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I get it. Yesterday was a bad week of football. Both of my FF teams in pay leagues totally underperformed leading to 2 losses and our team didn’t play well either. Plus the Mets tease ya and make you think they’re ready to compete and then take 2 steps back. Very frustrating

  11. D's avatar D says:

Its a domino effect, so we are having trouible keeping the RB’s from slipping out, so Baker has to help there, which means he is out of position when he needs to track down Cam, starts with the DL not clogging the center, is fed off of missed assignments on the containment, so now ya lose the middle and the coverage there. This is why Belichick gets so bent over a player freelancing or not doing their assigned job stat hunting. Everyone has to do their job our it just unravels and your scheme is a bunch of individuals running around acting like clowns.

      • D's avatar D says:

I know i hated the fake crowd noise, it wasn’t as awkward as complete silence, but it was so obviously not real it was kinda creepy. There isnt anything to be mad at our team for that though. Hrmm. Nope i got nothing.

  14. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

D – It wasn’t that bad, but to simplify it, I knew and said before the game that the only way Cam would beat us was on the ground and yet we still couldn’t stop him. We looked so tentative. Maybe it’s to hi credit or maybe just a bad job by us. They kept the ball for 10 more minutes than we did. That bothers me.

    • D's avatar D says:

Offense didnt keep the ball long enough, D, especially the first game gets gassed if they cant stay off the field a little. Im more unhappy about the O than i am the D but im not overly unhappy on either side right now. It was a decent start with a bad outcome.

  15. D's avatar D says:

He is my poopey pants things.

Not enough Brieda, especially int he passign game after Devante went down, i would have liked to see the coaches start spreading them out with some reciever screens with Brieds either the reciever on the screen or a blocker out front. I would have liked to see a little more than basic play calling on offense.

I would have liked to see a better second adjustment to the adjustment to our first adjustment lol. I would have liked to have seen a zero coverage “nickle” with 5 CB’s some playing mid deep and some playing shallow just behind the LB’s to cut out that zone and yet still be able to stack the box. We were not being threatened in the deep ball category so why not sacrifice a little there, let our all stars be man up, and take all the middle shit. Make him burn us, he gets more inconsistent the further he has to throw it.

I would have like to see a little more jumbo early on, we got maybe one jumbo package down close to the goal line but we coulda used it early in the game in the middle of the field.

Thats about all i can come up with, and thats not my call its just how i would have handled it, and im not the pro’s, they are,

    Wyoming,
Things have changed, and I don’t like it! It’s not tackle football. Being able to hit really hard and solid is a tool that can be used. It’s like asking a really fast guy not to run as fast as he can. Why? If I can hit somebody legally so they don’t wanna do something again or takes their mind off the play and puts it on me, that impacts the game. I miss real football.

Randy they also aren’t protected after the hand off the football, after the football have been caught by the receiver, or tuck the ball down and become a ball carrier. There are times you can still tee off on them, but you gotta do it just right and don’t make it look super bad like a blind side hit, just a good pancaking followed by some dry humping.

  30. olddolphan's avatar olddolphan says:

TODAY, September 15, is exactly the halfway point of The Height of the Hurricane Season. It runs from Aug. 1 through Oct. 31 —92 days, to be exact. The vast majority of major hurricanes are spawned during this three month period. Last year, the most intense hurricane ever recorded, Hurricane Dorian, with gusts of 225 MPH, struck the Bahamas. The date was Sept. 1. DORIAN was the 4th storm of the 2019 season. NOW, on Sept. 15, 2020, we are at 21 storms for this season and counting.

I’m sure glad there’s no such thing as climate change. As Archie Bunker might have put it, “It (climate change) is a fragment of your imagination.”

    • D's avatar D says:

Not to detract from your argument, but another fact that helps us this year is the fact we have had so many storms. Usually the deep into the season you go without getting many storm, the worse they are that year when it does get to the latter parts of the season Camile, Katrina, Dorian, Michael those aren’t deep into the alpha system as Sally or whatever comes next. Im at least hopeful, that the latter part of this season is weaker at least, because the sheer number of them and any of them being big is going to really compound things.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Why do people sarcastically say there’s no such thing as climate change, when nobody is arguing otherwise? We all know the temp is always changing.

      • D's avatar D says:

There is a natural climate change, the earth will change temperature in cycles, those those cycles are generally so long that you only live in wither a heating or cooling cycle and do not see both. There definitely is a relation to pollution, climate change and human existence, and there is a relation to the events that are happening in correlation with those two. The more people we cram on this planet the more its not in a natural state and the more unnatural state its in the worse it will become and the more the earth will fight back to restore balance.

So really, i am a climate change believer, but i know that the only alternative to climate change at this point is to limit the number of human beings. You think a 100% switch to electric cars will do it, immediate impact sure, but these cars will break down, these cars will eventually go to junk yards and eventually those batteries are going to be a toxic mess to have to handle.

We an trade one problem for another, and im not suggesting we do nothing, but ultimately, we cant stop this from progressing without the talk of population control, and i dont think anyone else really wants to have that discussion, outside of maybe AOC who wants to eat babies lol. Im tired of the talk of eat beans not meat because cow farts are doing it. What about the extra human farts from eating the beans? No cow farts aren’t doing it the human population is doing it.

Everyone recycle, well recycling plants emit pollution, more people doing it more pollution. So trash in the water/soil or pollution in the air. Knock out 100K people and you have reduced both.

Factory dump pollution in the water and the air, ok so who are we producing things for, less people less need for stuff, less pollution. No one is going to stop wanting these items, therefore they will still be produced, so only alternative is lower the number of consumers.

This is the real conversation about climate control. Do what you can, but ultimately, you aren’t stopping this thing without getting rid of the real problem, and thats human beings not cow farts.

      • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

That’s just an opinion, and not based on any facts. There’s nothing that proves anything we’ve done is changing the climate and no one knows what to do to reverse global warming, if it’s even possible or a good thing. Plants in general thrive in a warm climate, and need CO2.

Let’s not make these talking points the discussion for the day.

Playing the last 5 games of the last series in 7 days, then one day off after each game in this series proved to be too much, with an ailing Mark Stone and an exhausted group, they petered out in the 3rd period.

Patriots looked like the better prepared team with a better strategy to hit us where it hurts. They knew we had a bunch of new guys, new coaches and new to the NFL’s, and they made a good game plan. As far as how scary the team looked, they dint look that scary. Our performance wasn’t as good, but given where we are, that wasn’t a bad performance overall. Baby steps.

Amazing, I have Drew Brees, Michael Thomas and Saquon Barkley and they all scored way below their normal outputs. Bad FF week, but I eked out an ugly win in one league. An ugly win is better than an ugly loss

      • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

I had Barkley and Brees last year. You’re going to be sorry. Somehow got Watson after Brees and played him the entire year. In a 4 – 6 league you need a running QB.

Their OL was better in pass pro but they couldn’t run the ball. Similar to us. But the Steelers are a top team with a big time defense if Big Ben stays healthy, and the Pats still have Belichick who out coached us.

I kind of jumped the gun that we’re now in the next phase of rebuilding this team and this was the first game they played together. It’s going to take some time. I even said before the season started that we could go 0-2, 2-4 to start and then starting winning some games. I let my emotions get the best of me. We should get better as the season goes on.

  45. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Mike, Brees doesn’t put up big numbers as much anymore. Their offense has become more balanced. The Saints are still a top team but it’s not just about Brees anymore. Not sure he’s a great FF QB anymore.

    • D's avatar D says:

I think it will be off an one from here out, he can still do it, he can still carry the team in the case they need it, they just dont need it as much like you mentioned. Its gonna be 40 pts one week maybe 20 another.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Right, but throwing the ball all over the lot is not what Brees has been in recent years. I’m talking about FF, not that Brees can’t lead them to a championship. There’s a difference between the two.

  46. stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

D — sounds like you live in a place that realtors like to brag about in Houston — “this house stayed dry during Harvey.” 🙂

  47. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Tim – They still don’t really run that much. They use Kamara a lot in the passing game so those yards and TD’s count too. Brees isn’t chucking the ball deep much anymore but he still throws the ball to Thomas when he’s healthy and gets some big plays out of Kamara

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Okay but don’t be surprised if his FF numbers are middle of the road. I’m not saying he’s no longer a great QB for the Saints and their season. They didn’t have the rushing yards in week 1 but they ran it 34 times. That’s all I’m saying.

  48. D's avatar D says:

Well i just lost internet briefly so it must be starting soon. Came back up pretty quick so probably some tree just whacked a pole somewhere.

  49. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Stanger, I live a couple miles from the gulf coast and about 7 miles from the Florida/Alabama border in West Pensacola. Looks like the center of the storm is going toward Mobile bay and possibly land fall at gulf shores. That puts me right in the right quadrant of the storm. Still not to worried as it has weakened and probably continue to weaken as it nears shore. Not rally concerned about the wind. Only trees around my house are the live oaks (or spanish oaks). Those trees are like built out of iron and very rarely topple over even with saturated ground. Only concern is flooding. Much of West Pensacola is low lying area. I drove around and we have a little over 3ft of storm surge. If we get much more (5ft of surge) we will start to have problems with rain water drainage. I don’t think we will get there. I don’t have a rain gage but we have gotten a shit ton. I drained our pool down 2″ below the skimmer yesterday and now it’s above the top of the skimmer. Has to be close to 12″ of rain so far. I am really not worried though.

    • D's avatar D says:

The damn Spanish oaks have a lot of support i have seen their limbs bend and touch the ground like a bunch of spider arms lol.

    • D's avatar D says:

BBM is on what they consider the less preferred side of the storm where as im on the more preferred side i guess you could say. I’m far enough inland and up high, like i said, so if the tall pines dont fall on me im good. Most are on the north side of the house tso the wind coming from it would most likely push them down away from my house.

    • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Sounds like a lot of rain BBM. Based on that have read seems biggest worry is the things just stops and sits there. Much better if Sally spreads the love if you will.

      • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

And should have said Wow to 12 inches of rain. When I was up north that would mean 12 feet of snow.

      • D's avatar D says:

Our area is the heaviest rainfall in all the US, we dont have the most number of rainy days, thats the NW but the volume of rain per year is us. Rain, especially in the summer is a lot of times an every day thing right about the same time every day.

      • D's avatar D says:

I liven in Pensacola before i moved to Mobile by way of Baton Rouge and Mobile and Pcola have about the same rainfall and weather patterns.

      • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

And assume that means both the ground and the drainage is prepared for a lot of rain. Comes in handy today.

Oak trees and/or massive branches go down during Nor’easter’s in the northeast and crush shit. Glad that doesn’t happen by you guys.

    • D's avatar D says:

A lot of yards are like that, open in the south side of the yard more wooded in the north just because thats the hurricanes are goinbg to come from

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Too many gigantic trees around neighborhoods up north. Yeah they’re beautiful and majestic and provide great shade, but they’re also very dangerous around homes, businesses and power lines during major storms. We get crazy rain and heavy winds up here too that aren’t during winter. Had two huge branches come down from the tropical storm from the hurricane you guys got a month ago or so, that almost hit us from the neighbor’s massive pine tree. They landed in their yard and missed both of us but it could have been much worse. They’re still contemplating whether they should take this 100 foot tree down.

  51. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

D, where I live we don’t get the rain Mobile does during the summer. Pensacola does get a ton but it seems to stay right along I-10 and doesn’t dip down to the coast as often. Of course, I-10 rolls right through Mobile so there ya go.

  52. D's avatar D says:

So you are pretty close to Florabama?

  53. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Tim, we have another type oak tree down here that are real tall and similar to the kind you have up north. I just don’t have any of those near my house. I get my big spanish oak pruned about every 5 years to reduce wind resistance. Looks like a giant umbrella.

  54. son of a son of a shula's avatar son of a son of a shula says:

Van Noy knows he’s on the Dolphins now, right?

Tim, I know what you mean, frustrated at results not necessarily performance. The first Cam TD where they zoom in on his foot out of bounds and the totally egregious PI on Gesicki on the last int stick out to me. We get the proper call on both of those and it’s a different game.
Sure they would have been within 6 inches and Cam probably puts it in but anything can happen- botched snap, fumble, loss of yds 2-3 downs in a row, penalty or even a pick (most unlikely) but who knows.
Then without PI maybe Gesicki scores or else with PI we’re at the one all set up.
It was a frustrating game. Wish we were better against the run, wish we ran it better, wish we threw it deep a couple times blah blah blah but we might be ok.
Need this win at home to avoid 0-2 in the division.

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Pirty much my feelings. Definitely need the win this weekend.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Yeah man. I saw some good tackling from the defense but we also gave up to much space in both the run and pass game. Got tighten that up. The OL is going to need some time to gel but I saw some good signs from them. Then we need skill players on offense to make big plays and defenders to make more impact plays. That might happen as the season goes on. We’re still in the early stages of building this team. Last year we tore it down, and this year we’re trying to build it the way we want it. That doesn’t happen overnight, especially with this crazy offseason.

Figures we get all this draft capital and cap space and we’re in the midst of a fucked up pandemic. I know it’s just sports but still… just saying.

  57. Randy's avatar Randy says:

Pittsburgh better fix that OL if they wanna do anything this season. Big Ben is gonna get pummeled, and he’s old and fragile. The Saints have a serious chance to win it all. If their defense can play solid, I like their chances a lot.

    • D's avatar D says:

They always have a good shot as long as the D holds an opponent to 30 or less, That offense has been putting up 30-40 a game for years now.

  58. son of a son of a shula's avatar son of a son of a shula says:

The 3 and out after the first 3rd qtr TD was bad too. We needed to let the D rest and go and get some points. Baker saved our ass at least.

  59. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Defensive tackle Christian Wilkins filled up the stat sheet in his second career opening day. He had six tackles (four solo), two tackles for loss, a sack and batted down two passes at the line of scrimmage.

“I’ve just been working hard all year – all offseason, all training camp and everything to try to be in the best shape and be in the best position to help this team win,” Wilkins said. “But ultimately, I don’t care about the big plays if it doesn’t result in wins. It’s cool to make big plays but I’d rather win at the end of the day. It’s all good and fun; but I’d trade in stats and plays for a win in the win column.”

    • D's avatar D says:

well yeah and though his stats were ok, there were a couple big runs that went right through his gap. Not saying he didnt play well but he could definitely improve his gap maintenance.

      • D's avatar D says:

I would really like us to get a big space eater next year int he draft and one of the best is Slaton from UF. He’s solid in pass rush but he is a huge dude that moves very well for his size. I think he is like 6-5 350 ish.

Kong can bitch that someone put a building in front of Kindley and he cant see him anymore.

Or anyone on the edge. Was Van Winkle sleeping again? Did he play? Landon Roberts, Captain, was he even there?
When we played NE previously it was like the only names you heard for the whole telecast were Roberts and Van Noy on and on. Did they Captain from HQ in Davie?

  61. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

D, the guy you’re looking for as a big space eater sounds like Raekwon Davis. Give hime some time and he might be that guy.

He doesn’t take shit on Twitter we know that, lol

Yeah he’s here to be exactly that, if can’t do it we should by the next draft. Long way to go. I like Davis’ chances.

  62. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Tim – That was the most frustrating thing, our ineptitude with the RPO on defense. It’s like we had no idea how to handle the concept. We also never seemed to have more than one guy there to defend it which is trouble.

I am a little bothered that a lot of other teams looked better in week 1 than we did

The patriots didn’t really do anything exotic on offense

But that said, we kind of go into the game not knowing what to expect

Should we have game planned to stop the offense the patriots showed up with? Based on what? I don’t even think the patriots know what they are going to do on offense yet? It’s all brand new in week 1 with a new QB after parting ways with this HOF QB.

We actually have the tape of what the bills did to the jests. I think you can prepare for that

So, if the trend continues I’m going to judge more harshly

But I’ve been dismissing week 1 performances for years now. Weird things happen in week 1

    • son of a son of a shula's avatar son of a son of a shula says:

If we were a 4-3 with bigger ends they wouldn’t have been running that shit and the shit they were running only worked because it was Cam. I know y’all hate him but he’s a big fast talented individual. We needed Dick Butkus. Lol

It was just a very remedial offense

I just don’t think it was about game preparation.
I think we got beat up up front

And some of those things are just about everyone knowing their roles

And no one knows what the fuck they are doing yet

Right. I thought we’d be able to run on them but we couldn’t. Despite everything they say about multiple when we have a fullback and 3 Te’s we’re running it. 72. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    son,
I had no expectations for this team this year. I just want to see improvement through the year. This team is still rebuilding and learning how to play the sort of defense Flores wants to run. It isn’t going to happen overnight. If we can get to .500 this season, I think that will be a success. There’s a lot of learning to do…with lots of new pieces.

  73. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

Maybe a better way to say it is that the game was incredibly boring

It felt a little like a scrimmage

  74. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I guess it doesn’t really matter to the story line, but the characters in question all come from very well defined backgrounds. The little village they are from is in an isolated part of the world where noone leaves or moves to. (for the past 1000 years and more) There is no “diversity” in the Two Rivers.

I think Peter Jackson did a fabulous job bringing the Lord of the Rings to life, the imagery in the films was spot on with what I imagined when reading. I guess I was hoping my favorite book series would have stayed truer to the books now that they have FINALLY done it for the screen.

This cast just doesn’t, but I am hoping the acting will be good enough that I’ll believe they are those characters. I’m just glad they’re gonna try. Sorta like with the Shannara series, but I’ll still watch them all. The books are always way better anyway.

Nothing coming from the team or media, between games 1 and 2, means anything, except the injury report. Just gitter done.

Brian Flores Thursday 9/17 media availability thread

“I wouldn’t take one game and try to put guys in a bucket as far as snap counts, especially in this type of season.”

Flores talks about the importance of relationship building, especially among the safeties for communication purposes. Says Rowe and McCain have done well in that area because it’s important to them.

Flores says Tagovailoa is doing what everyone else is doing from a strength training standpoint so they felt like they could remove him from the injury report.

“It was a serious injury. He’s done a great job getting himself back and healthy.”

Flores on rookies and knowing when you can give them a full load

Small role and then it builds. You see that over the course of 5-6 games. You need stretches of games of consistency to really feel good that they know how to be a professional and that complacency doesn’t set it.
