Poor defensive game plan IMO. Haven’t been able to watch every play but have we show cover 0 even once?

Oh well, I didnt really think we’d win this game. I think it would have been closer if the refs didnt manipulate things so well, but it efinitely wasn’t just the refs. We got outplayed, especially on special teams. And we got outcoached.

And ST continues its stellar day

  26. Brian in NY's avatar Brian in NY says:

Tua is accurate and his completion percentage is high, but if you look around the league there are a lot of QBs in the league with mid 60%- high 60% completion percentage with many more yards . I know he’s been out, but I still don’t see him putting up those types of numbers.

  27. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

    Stats don’t tell the story.

Without Derrick Henry, if you told me RT would only have 120 yards passing with 5 min to play, I would think we would be right in this game or even ahead.

  28. Brian in NY's avatar Brian in NY says:

    Tim,

We shit the bed for the God knows how many time at the end of the year when we had control of the outcome. It’s not being a sore loser, it’s being realistic.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

The winning streak was great but did you think our offense was going to become a juggernaut this week? The same issues we’ve had all year still exist. The offense is not where it needs to be. We all know that. We talk about it all the time. I get it… losing sucks but we knew this was going to be a tall order to pull off.

All I’ve read is how we choked, sucked and were out coached. Not any comments complimenting the Titans who have won their division 3 times in a row and played in a championship game a couple of years ago. It’s sour grapes and a disrespect for our opponent. Sorry it is.

  29. bookman11's avatar bookman11 says:

    What is yentaville

  30. olddolphan's avatar olddolphan says:

I CERTAINLY AGREE with the gist of what you are saying. NEVER SAW so many dropped passes in my life by a Miami team. Horrendous officiating was A BIG FACTOR (which it NEVER should be). Inability of Miami’s “D” to stop the run also a primary factor. DON’T BELIEVE coaches decisions were a major factor, but, yes, they COULD have done better.

OVERALL, this was a clusterfuck of gigantic proportions. Even Lady Luck was on the Titan’s side (witness the long field goal that failed by inches in the 3rd quarter!). My biggest positive that I took away from this game was TUA’s 45-yard arrow which WADDLE held onto. Those saying TUA has a weak arm must suffer from a weak brain and poor vision (NOT necessarily in that order). I think those that can’t stand TUA would be better off rooting for another team.

  34. Brian in NY's avatar Brian in NY says:

Chase has 11 catches for 266 and 3TDs today. I really hope that the narrative that the Dolphins wanted Waddle over him regardless was false, or else there is no hope for us with this FO.

That’s it TN, make it really hurt. Make them feel it!

  36. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

Tuna was 18/38 for barely over 200 yards

It’s really not a great example of what he’s been like this season
It’s a bad game by him
Players have ups and downs, but we can’t have our QB play his worst games in the biggest games

I’m going to continue to root for him
I hope we stick with him

But let’s not lie to ourselves – he was horrible in that final game vs Buffalo last year and horrible today

And he certainly wasn’t healthy this season either

  37. manitobafinfan's avatar manitobafinfan says:

    Ravens lost 🎉🎉

  38. Brian in NY's avatar Brian in NY says:

So we lost by 31 points in what basically amounted to a playoff game. This team is consistent: the ability to play their worst games of the season when it matters the most.

  41. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Tim – It’s a lot more than just getting beat by a better team. It’s about getting undressed in front of the NFL and playing your worst game when it counts. Of course it’s hard to win 8 or 9 in a row, but we weren’t even competitive in this game. I thought calls went the other way, but we just didn’t play well at all, it’s not just losing. You can point to any of those game I mentioned above in this article and we’re in exactly that same place. Looking like pretenders and a team that has no business being in the playoffs. I’m so tired of that result.

    • Brian in NY's avatar Brian in NY says:

      agreed

    • ElephantRider's avatar ElephantRider says:

      Yep same ol same ol

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Our deficiencies caught up with us. At least they made it possible with two games to go after a 1-7 start. So let’s all forget that because we’re all bummed out now. But we all knew it was a tall order.

It was a close game all day and we all know how a game can get out of hand when the mistakes add up due to frustration. The score doesn’t really reflect most of the game. Our offense couldn’t get anything going. They played poorly. It happens. If you want to keep going back to the past with different people and personnel, okay that’s on those of you who do that. I do not look at it that way.

      • Brian in NY's avatar Brian in NY says:

Our deficiencies did not catch up with us. We were stout on D for most of the year- that is we are on defense. In a big game, they came up small and got run on all game.

  46. Brian in NY's avatar Brian in NY says:

I’m watching the KC Cincy game. They went for it twice on fourth (penalties) at the goal line in a tie game. Burrow just left holding his knee and limping. We don’t have the only dumb coaches in the league

  47. Brian in NY's avatar Brian in NY says:

    Mike,

You are dead on. I’m ready to say fuck it. Trade for Watson, spend every penny in FA on an OL. Nothing else works. May as well give that a shot.

  48. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

I can’t believe we had as many first downs as TN and ran more offensive plays.

  49. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

I enjoyed our run. It was much better than going 3-14. Our offense is still a work in progress. We got outplayed, but we had the opportunity to make it 17-10 halfway through the 4th quarter. The final score looks worse than it was. We collapsed after that no call.

The Titans are really good. #1 in the AFC right now. We had to go to their house on a short week, they had a long week. We had a number of calls go against us at very inopportune moments (hey, hey, hey). It’s pretty hard to overcome all that and play perfect, which is what it would have taken to win this game.

  50. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Tua is a gamer that doesn’t seem to be the whole package.

Reminded me of Gardner Minschew today.

  51. bookman11's avatar bookman11 says:

I feel like I’ve seen this game so many times before. My opinion of this team and coaches hasn’t changed since 1-7. I questioned them then and I still do. I am not sure we have our QB and I am not sure these coaches could coach one anyway. Tua just looks like he struggles to do basic things.

One thing is the defense, it seems we have players and some form of identity, but this has been 2 years in a row without any major injuries, how long will that last?

    Soooooo tired of mediocrity.

  52. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Eagles won so lets go Texans!

  53. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Tim – It doesn’t matter that we have different players and a different HC, although Flores was the HC for the BUF 56- MIA 26 last game of the season. It’s about this team never stepping up. It’s like we won 7 in a row, this game had the playoff atmosphere, we all felt it, it was there. So when the chips are down, this team becomes its worst. If you see it differently, I’m not going to change your mind. Tua was off, Waddle was off, I saw about 5 times when a defender peeled off of a receiver to try and tackle the QB and that receiver was open and made a play. The discipline wasn’t there. It’s like the whole team was out of sync, we were making mistakes we didn’t make during the streak. You could say it all caught up to us, but the only way I change my mind is if somehow we’re still alive after this week and next week need a win and get it.

    • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

NOW he is done in the NFL. Mental

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

He’s got mental issues. I think he should have been banned by the NFL for his curse laden racist rant outside his home yelling at his wife, children and police. Something really bad is going to happen with this guy.

  54. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Need Saints and Minn to win also

  55. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

The other team never matters. It’s always everything we did poorly. Maybe the other team made some of that happen. Hmmm… no that couldn’t be just like we did to teams when we won 7 in a row. We need a little more perspective. I’m not happy about it but I’m not shocked either. We’re not good enough yet. We talk about that everyday here and then when it happens everyone loses their minds and starts blaming everyone in the organization. We didn’t play well and lost a football game. Oh the horror!!!

    • bookman11's avatar bookman11 says:

I know that I am tired of perpetually “not being gods enough yet” Wash, rinse, repeat. Great we recovered from 1-7, my issue is we were 1-7 to begin with. It is so, so tiring that we are always left wondering what it would be like to be a perennial contender.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

3 points. Look, the Bengals were in a dogfight, playing the hottest team in the NFL. They kept up, and actually won. We scored 3 points. Do you really think the Titans are so much better? I thought our defense was going to keep us in it and our offense would keep it close too. I was figuring a 23-20 type game. Yes, D’Onta Foreman is a physical runner and A.J. Brown is a great WR. We couldn’t hold onto the ball, made uncharacteristic mistakes we weren’t making. We unraveled. It’s just sad to end the season in that manner, as we have many times before. We can thank the NFL for giving us a matchup at the end of the season that bitchslaps every Dolphins fan back to reality. Hey Dolphins fans, it’s the end of the season, you know what’s coming . . .

  56. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Kong – What do we need to do to even up our point differential next week? LOL

  57. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

How many of you honestly thought we were going to keep this streak going? I didn’t but I did not want to go there other than saying it’s a tall order for weeks. Why say we couldn’t until we didn’t was how I rolled with it. It sucks but with all the draft and FA talk, why so surprised?

We would have probably been better off not winning 7 in a row so we didn’t get that high of excitement. I enjoyed the run that none of us expected anyway at 1-7. This season could have been really shitty and boring if the losing continued and we’re all just watching it play out. At least we got that hope back for 2 months.

We still need to upgrade what we’ve all been talking about. You want a new QB have at it. It’s much more than that.

    • bookman11's avatar bookman11 says:

I expected the Dolphins to be better than this, this year, plain and simple. I expected a consistent winning team that easily qualified for the playoffs with 11 or 12 wins

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I didn’t expect us to keep it going, but we did. We did things in every game to get us a win. In this one we did all the things you do to give them away. Is there no middle ground? OK, so maybe we don’t play our best today, do we have to play our worst? That’s what I’m getting at. You don’t see the stark difference, the drop off? We went from doing most things right to doing most things wrong. Why? It’s not because TEN is so good. If we had anything like the play we had in the last seven we could have beat the Titans.

  58. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Biggest game of Tua’s pro career and he fumbled 3 times and threw 1 INT. Not exactly the franchise QB we were hoping to see. Doesn’t mean he can’t be a franchise QB, but he didn’t show us his best when we needed it. In fact, he showed his worst.

    • bookman11's avatar bookman11 says:

Or maybe that is what he is, who knows at this point?

      • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I don’t think so, I think the conditions were unfavorable today, wet and cold and icy. Still, There was a series where he could have been picked back to back throws but wasn’t. He doesn’t look scared or overwhelmed, he just had a bad day at the wrong time. I think he’s an NFL QB, I’m not sure whether he’s capable of being a top 10 QB unless he gets more help from the O-line and maybe another receiver or two that can stay on the field a whole season.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

He did not play well but our receivers weren’t getting open often either. Something that has been going on all year. We can’t get separation. Every pass is contested or a guy is right on the receiver after the catch. Nobody breaks a big play and takes it to the house. We can only score if we have long drives or the defense sets us up.

We all know we have to upgrade the offense and the Titans exposed it. That’s what I saw.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I don’t think there’s any chance of that happening. The announcers were throwing Flores into Coach of the Year talk before this game. You don’t go from COTY to fired in one week. lol

  61. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

I think you give flores another year

  62. Brian in NY's avatar Brian in NY says:

    Tim,

It’s about keeping the streak going- it’s about not getting our dicks kicked in playing a game that matters most. Many have pointed that out.

  63. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Poor game plan on both sides. We were running the ball decent but the D let the score get away.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

17-3 for a long time with one score setup by a TO and the D let the game get away? We went for it on 4th and whatever like 4-5 times. This game was lost on offense.

  64. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

I’ve been saying we’re playing with smoke and mirrors, at some point you get over whelmed and blown out, when the mirror cracks

Means only no playoffs going forward

  65. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Rob – I think COTY went out the window this week, got dragged by one car and then run over by 100 others. Regardless, he’s not getting fired. Next week’s game won’t matter for us, but it will matter for NE, and we’ve had their number. It should be interesting to see what the stakes are.

  66. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

we are a passive team, the Titans are a power team, they imposed their will on us today.

this scheme we play makes us passive.

  67. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Okay guys, I understand your frustration but I don’t think you’re being realistic. It was 17-3 forever and we couldn’t get it done on offense. I’m not surprised. We’re not a good offense and the Titans are a good team. I don’t care about the final score. That’s not what the game was most of the day. We were deflated once it went to 24-3. The defense kept us in it and the offense struggled. That’s been the case a lot this year.

The same things we feel needs to be done in the offseason still holds true. Nothing has changed this year.

  68. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Don’t feel like watching anymore football today. Watching the supercharged tractor pull instead.

  69. New Age's avatar New Age says:

I agree with Tim on some of it. Tenn is a good team but maybe not a great team without Henry. They were 2-3 the last five games before us with a blowout loss to NE and a loss to Houston. In fact, if we were ever going to beat them, it would have to be when they aren’t at full strength, but it really wasn’t competitive. Tenn scored the deciding points with 51:24 left in the game.

We aren’t a decent team, the win streak was fool’s gold, and we all knew that deep down. The problem with us sore losers is that we don’t see where the improvement is at. Our OL was probably better last year but still awful. Our WRs are injury prone and unable to get separation. Same. No run D, no running game, no stud RB. Same! Tua and coaching average at best Same! How are we going to get good then? No one really knows in our organization, and it shows.

Where is the improvement? What is needed to get there? Vrabel has NEVER had a losing season. Reid takes everything and turns it to gold. Arians improves teams everywhere he goes. Zac Taylor, Kingsbury, and Staley all looking good. Does that mean the QB makes the HC? Maybe so, so what’s that say about Tua? Where is that coach for us, because I don’t see him here. The most important thing for a HC is bringing in coaching talent and Flores is an utter failure at that. Second most important thing is bringing in talent and coaching to improve your QB. Utter failure at that too. I might be time for a change somewhere. It sure looks like it. This team is mediocre, and it shouldn’t continue to be every single year for decades.

  70. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Right now, I feel like a Jets fan whose team just happens to win a couple more games in a season.

    • New Age's avatar New Age says:

Exactly. Except they almost beat the Bucs, beat the Titans, and the Bengals all in his first year. I see good things in the future. Possibilities are there. We can’t beat good teams. We get blown out every year by the Bills and at least two other teams. We weren’t even in this game. We can’t get over any humps. Same team as last year just didn’t have Fitz to bail us out a couple times. He really was the difference, or it would have been the same.

I think the scheme has more to do with OL more than Tua though. Put Tua behind that OL and running and see how he does.
    ______________________________

we never play from a pro set, it’s always shotgun RPO.
when you play from a proset your OL and running backs get a jump on the defense, they take the fight to them. couple that with play action out of the same set. that’s how to dominate.
our scheme does not allow that, we are always pass blocking, we don’t fire off the ball, we retreat.
and i think we play that way to fit Tua’s game, not the supposed deficiencies of the OL.

the shotgun is ok in the right situation, but not every damn play!

  73. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

One of the farmers I worked for in Indiana when I was in high school did tractor pulls. He had a bad ass 1948 John Deer he converted. It wasn’t in the supercharged class, but it was cool. He traveled around to all the county fairs and had a bunch of trophies. Never got to drive that one though.

  74. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

This doesn’t help. But the titans are now the top team in the league. No shame in losing to number 1.
    Plus
    No streak lasts forever.
    Plus
    It’s a growth opportunity.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

It doesn’t help because we made it so. We could have toppled them and maybe even become the 6 seed. Instead we’ll have to settle for the beatdown we usually get at the end of the season when we have a chance to make the playoffs.

  75. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

LOL – One of my best friends is in the FF Championship and has Ja’Marr Chase. He put up 59.6 points today. Hard to overcome that kind of performance

  76. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

it’s rather funny how we play out of the shotgun every play, the question is; is that due to the OL or Tua?
i think it’s Tua due to his inability to get the ball downfield.
sure he’s made some throws downfield however if you look at his stats it jumps out at you that he’s not very good at deep throws.

  77. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

I used to plow and disc the fields in a big International tractor. It was top of the line back then with the closed cab, A/C, Heat and a FM/AM cassette radio. I’d be out there jamming Van Halen Diver Down. That was probably the only easy/fun thing to do in farming. Rest was hard work.

  78. New Age's avatar New Age says:

Anyone else realize that if we had Fitz coming in for certain games, that we’d be just like last year’s squad? There’s been no true growth from this team outside of some very talented rookies taking the place of less talented older players. Same issues as last year, same results overall. Who wants to bet the Pats don’t blow us out like the Bills did in the final game? Deja vu every year.

  79. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Keep in perspective that that the Big Bad Titans were 4-3 in their last 7, with a loss to the Texans (22-13), a 36-13 whipping by the Patriots and a 19-13 loss to the Steelers. Let’s not make them into one of the best NFL teams. I think the weather played into their hands today, but despite being the ONE seed, a lot of that had to do with the team with Derrick Henry, not the team we faced today. We really had a poor showing today, it’s not that we didn’t have a chance.

    • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

They played good today though. Their special teams was lights out and had a huge impact on the game. And they played mistake free with no turnovers except for the one the refs stole from us with no explanation, lol.

Naples, that does not make me feel any better.

    We beat the Jets twice.

  82. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

    • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

Rob – It’s going in circles. It’s hard to argue documentation. Facts. Everyone knows our offensive line is the worst in the NFL. Developing a quick, short passing game masks its deficiencies. You get rid of the ball quick which lowers the sacks and loss of yards and potential tunovers. If you want to believe that the scheme is designed around the QB, I can’t change your mind but there’s evidence to the contrary. He didn’t play like that Alabama. The other evidence is that our other QB played exactly the same way, Jacoby Brissett. I never heard anyone say Brissett can’t throw downfield that he doesn’t have a strong arm and yet he was even less effective throwing downfield and avoiding sacks than Tua was. Too much evidence points to the O-line Rob, but think as you like.

I don’t get how you root or take pleasure in seeing certain players fail so you can feel right.. Then, call yourself a fan. It’s perplexing to the say the least….lol.

    I don’t think we’re that far off.
Vrabel is a really good coach. He has a veteran QB and a solid OL and a stout run D plus Byard who mostly snuffed out Waddle.

We are. We say this every single year. This is the year I stop saying it. We are not close to being a consistent, contending team. You could argue the point that we could use an upgrade at EVERY OL position, but that’s not feasible.

well it looks like the Chargers will win, Indy plays Jax next week, chargers and raiders will battle it out for the final spot, i think we are eliminated with a chargers victory

I remember one time I ran over a big fat ground hog when discing a field. He got caught up between 2 discs and got all jacked up. I didn’t mean to. I thought the tractor would scare him and he was going to run the other way when I passed. Instead, he tried to go to where his hole was and cut though between the tractor and the disc I was pulling. Fat Boy didn’t make it. That’s what I called him, Fat Boy. He died shortly after I pulled him out from between the discs. I buried him on the edge of the field near his hole. Sad.

Just because the Titans were 4-3 in their last 7 and we won 7 in a row doesn’t mean they can’t bond together and say let’s win this game at home and clinch the division again. They’re not allowed to play a good game because they struggled in some games prior to this one? It doesn’t work like that.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Of course not Tim, I didn’t say that. Is it also possible that we said “Hey, let’s be different this year, let’s win a game most people don’t think we can win and make sure we’re in the playoffs”.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

All the deficiencies you’ve pointed out today reared their ugly head. We couldn’t pull it off. I’m bummed too but not really surprised. Who breaks a big play on offense and takes it to the house? Nobody!!! We have to be perfect on long drives and we’re not capable of that right now.

On a positive note, Waddle only needs 3 more receptions to break the rookie record….

    We Need a RT.

We need an OC with a reliable and productive playbook. One with answers for various defenses, not gimmicks where there are multiple flea flickers and the TE throws his first NFL pass.

Some on the blog have mentioned trying to sign Christian Kirk or Bryon Pringle I think both would be solid pickups at the right price. I’ll throw Michael Gallup’s name in there too. I’ve followed him closely because I have him in FF. They would have to pick another number because all wear number 13.

  93. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

We’ve been talking about upgrading the OL with a more vet presence with guys who have played well with a body of work. We talked about upgrading the WR and RB groups. Nothing has changed.

Some don’t think Tua is the answer and fair enough. But this offense overall is not good. We can win with this defense though. The 2022 offseason has to be about offense.
