Dolphins franchise again embroiled in negative controversy

Once again my fellow Dolphins fans, we have to endure another period of time where our team is in the news for all the wrong reasons. This was supposed to be the weeks of excitement about finding the right Head Coach to lead our team to success for the next decade or so. Instead, we’re left with accusations against our owner, GM and team which could hurt our chances of securing the right candidate for our Head Coach vacancy. In 2013 we had the “Bullygate Scandal” while Joe Philbin was our Head Coach. Now in 2022, we have the “Tank Scandal”, where our recent former Head Coach Brian Flores alleged that Dolphins owner Stephen Ross offered Flores an extra $100K per game if the Dolphins lost in 2019 in order to secure a high draft pick.

Of course it matters whether these things are true or not, but the fact is, even if they aren’t, the damage is done. The NFL is not going to help us in any way if they find no wrongdoing. We’re damaged goods regardless. Controversies tend to linger around things even after the air has supposedly been cleared. The Jacksonville Jaguars are about to hire Doug Pederson as their Head Coach. Jim Harbaugh who was never interviewed by our Dolphins has told Michigan he’s returning for the 2022 season. Eric Bieniemy is getting another crack at an interview with the New Orleans Saints. The Dolphins will be interviewing both Mike McDaniel and Kellen Moore. I honestly wonder what is going through both of these guy’s minds considering the state of the Dolphins Franchise.

If there is any evidence that Dolphins owner Stephen Ross tried to incentivize HC Brian Flores to purposely lose games there will be significant punishment. I don’t know if Ross will be the sole recipient of said punishment or if the NFL will punish both the owner and the team. Obviously, the great majority of us would prefer they take the team away from Ross and leave the Dolphins Franchise alone. We’ve been through enough. Punishment such as taking away numerous draft picks would hurt. I feel like our roster is getting closer and a strong free agency along with with a good draft could really improve our roster. Take away a handful of draft picks, maybe our 1st RD picks this year and next and the next, and that hurts us badly because we have multiple picks next season in ’23 which would give us some nice flexibility to stand pat with two 1st rounders or move up if some reason if we decide to get a QB. It wouldn’t be the end of the world, but it would be unfortunate to fans who get punished so often by bad management of this team over the last couple of decades. We could use a break.

I feel like we’d be lucky to get Mike McDaniel at this point, and I’d be happy if we do. I made it clear that none of the candidates, with the exception of Jim Harbaugh really excited me, but McDaniel would be my preference out of who is left. Let’s get our Head Coach and then we’ll sit back and watch the drama unfold. Nothing would make me happier to find out Flores was just a spiteful, lying sack of shit and manufactured this whole story to drag the Dolphins through the mud after being jilted by the NY Giants, his dream job. BTW, I think his other allegations are very thin at best, against the Broncos and even more against the Giants. We know Bill Belichick is NFL royalty, but his word doesn’t mean squat here. He’s not employed by the New York Giants and I think those texts are meaningless to everyone except Bill Belichick, Brian Flores, and Brian Daboll who now probably feels bad for Brian Flores, or maybe he doesn’t and is reveling in this silliness.

I’d be lying if I were to say I’m confident that we’re clean. I don’t hate Stephen Ross like some of y’all do, I think he spends a lot of money trying to improve this team. Yes, he’s gone about some things the wrong way, especially for such an established businessman. We know he courted Jim Harbaugh while Tony Sparano was still the Dolphins Head Coach. So is it possible that Stephen Ross offered Flores money to tank to get a franchise QB, of course it is. I feel that Ross’s reputation could hurt us here in an investigation. We’ll see how this all plays out. It would be great to come out on top for a change.

As many of you already know, our friend Jon “Stanger” has been released from the hospital and is now doing inpatient physical and occupational therapy, which could be approximately a 2 week gig. It’s amazing how far he’s come and now the light really is close at the end of the tunnel. So happy for him!

This whole racism thing that Flores has brought up really bothers me, I mean how could there be racism in the NFL or anywhere, there are catch phrases stenciled in the end zones, I thought that cured everything. 🤨

I mentioned this at some point this past week, are they going to wear “HIRE BLACK HC’s” on the back of the their helmets. Put it on the goalpost? I hope I don’t come off as racist, but how many white running backs are there? How many white cornerbacks are there? Is it racist, or are they just taking the people best qualified for the job? I think if/when a black candidate comes along that’s the best hire, they get hired. I don’t think the owners are interviewing a really excellent black Head Coach candidate and then just giving the job to a lesser qualified white guy. It seems they’re not happy with the amount of black owners too. How do you change that? Say if a black owner gets into the NFL and he only hires black Head Coaches, is that fair? The world is not perfect, and either is the NFL. I think they’re trying to incentivize teams to hire black Head Coaches and front office guys but teams should be able to decide for themselves who the best candidates are though.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I believe the whole thing is made up. The last sentence is the joke. Because we haven’t hired a HC yet, we’ll wait until all the good assistant coaches are gone so our new HC can’t hire a good staff.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

This has nothing to do with Ross.

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

IF we’re to hire Mike McDaniel, I suppose you are correct. He has — for example — NO link to ‘Wink’ Martindale or any of the other coveted OCs and DCs out there.

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

THIS is what I’ve been talking about for the last 2 weeks. Mike McDaniel has ZERO power to bring in powerful allies to form a legit staff.

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

And yes, this has 100% to do with Steve Ross… he continues to make the same mistake over, and over, and over, and… HERE WE GO AGAIN!

  9. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

M13, McDaniel has been coaching for 16 years. Do you think he might know a few coaches along the way. A lot of the time they might not be household names but they are known in NFL circles.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I posted this the other day. 9 of the 14 playoff teams this year had 1st time HCs. Two of them are in the Super Bowl.

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

I give up! I done told ya his history, how he’s been essentially kept under the Shanahan umbrella.

And I’ll tell ya once again, I WILL celebrate McDaniel’s hiring once announced. I just feel we could have done FAR better.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I know his history as well as you do. All coaches come from a coaching tree. That’s new to you?

Look at Sean McVay’s coaching career.
        https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sean_McVay

Zac Taylor comes from the Philbin/Sherman tree. He also coached under Sean McVay. You see how these guys all come up the same way?

  10. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

    Tim,

Joe Philbin had been coaching for 28 years before he got his first NFL HC gig. We all remember how it turned out… gum wrappers and all.

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

And just like Philbin before him, McDaniel has never had the responsibility of calling plays as a TRUE OC.

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Conversely, we both know that Brian Daboll WAS calling his own plays as a true OC and has earned his stripes.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

And so many other 1st time HC’s did not coach that long and they’re in the Super Bowl. 1st time HCs have had more success than 2nd and 3rd time around guys. You can go back as far as say Bill Walsh and Bill Parcells as two examples.

It’s not about the age of a guy, it’s about the right guy. Ross is not the only owner who hires 1st time HCs. It’s actually a majority practice throughout the league. Look at this year alone. Only two have been HC’s before – Pederson and McDaniels.

  53. sb7mvp's avatar sb7mvp says:

I wasn’t really excited about any available candidates, but Pederson and McDaniel were my top two out of who was available. We didn’t give Pederson a shot, so I was rooting for McDaniel. I’ve been saying Tua needed to be in an offense like Shanahan’s since he’s been here. I thought Pederson would be good if we wanted to continue the RPO, plus he’s got experience in winning as a HC.
It all comes down to big boy decisions now. He’s only been an OC for one year and he’s got little experience calling plays. Calling plays isn’t overrated as Tim says. It’s gives you a feel for the game and experience in what to do during critical situations. Every coach we’ve hired in the last decade’s had a problem with that. McDaniel has been described as super intelligent, but sometimes the smartest people are the ones willing to admit what they don’t know. If he’s going to be a successful HC, he’s got to make quality decisions with his staff first and foremost. He’ll need quality guys in place so he can focus on the macro. He’s definitely not a clueless Philbin type who focused on the wrong things. He’s not a “smartest person in the room” type like Gase who couldn’t understand why no one understood his vision and just couldn’t get it.
I see a lot of positives with this guy on paper that I didn’t see with the two I mentioned. Now it’s time to let him lay his foundation and go from there.

Rather than LEARNING from past failures, Ross PERSISTS

#1)–Hire an HC with little or NO EXPERIENCE as a head coach.
#2)–Hire an HC with little proven experience on the Offensive side of the ball.

WHY, oh WHY does Ross persist in these FAILED POLICIES?

I thought about it right after I saw the typo and I thought do I correct myself or just let it ride. I definitely caught exactly what you did our minds are very similar in that respect. Don’t know if that’s dissing you or not though LOL

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

It was 9 black HC’s not too long ago. But we’re living in a very sensitive time. BLM is the culprit. I’m not getting into politics but geez we all know what’s going on.

I wonder if Mike McDaniel having a black father carries as much weight as Obama.

      • D's avatar D says:

Maybe he will have to do a 23 and me test so we get a break down and then fight over what percentage it has to be lol. Stupid fucking world. I bet he has a higher percentage than Kaepernick.

  76. D's avatar D says:

Speaking of minorities. Did y’all see the Mayor of NYC just had a town hall or some sort of speaking engagement where he referred to whites as crackers, kicked all those cracker’s asses, and some where along the line threw in a negro just for good measure? Not fired yet that I know of. Hmmm…….

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

He was asked a question using those exact words “You really kicked those crackers asses as you moved up in rank in the PD?”. Just paraphrasing, but that’s the gist of it. It’s not a big deal, but if he was white and said he kicked those n—–r asses, he’d probably get fired.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

That hypocrisy happens in big liberal cities all the time.

The ideals of MLK, JFK and RFK from the 60’s liberal Democratic Party is no more.

      • D's avatar D says:

Well I saw this thing with Bill Maher who’s one of the most liberal guys ever where he was making a statement towards liberals who are now bashing him for changing to be a conservative. His statement that he made was that it’s not him that’s changed it’s the left that’s changed and went on to call out the hypocrisy of the new left and how this isn’t his 60s liberal party.

  77. D's avatar D says:

My little jabs here I don’t want taken the wrong way I just think it’s fucking stupid that a simple thing about hiring someone you want to be your coach is this damn bullshit complicated.

  78. D's avatar D says:

Damn Herd you are whitey white lol

  79. Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

Stop with the talk of any fucking color/race. All you do is perpuate the issue. Let it fucking die already…..please.

    • D's avatar D says:

Dude it isn’t an issue that’s going anywhere I am sorry to say. That’s what I’m talking about. If it doesn’t want an issue as it shouldn’t be we wouldn’t be trying to figure out all these damn rules about who counts who doesn’t how man is fair how few is to little yadda yadda.

    • Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

And my point you don’t get is KISS.

      • D's avatar D says:

No I get that I’m telling you I agree and unfortunately both of us are in a world where that shit doesn’t apply anymore.

  80. sb7mvp's avatar sb7mvp says:

didn’t realize mcdaniel was part of this

  81. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

For the record I wish I had skin that was more tolerable to sunlight. I get red and then a slight brownish version of red. I can’t get that cool tan many white people in my life have been striving for. I’m closer to tracing paper. LOL

    • Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

      Lmao….that’s funny dude.

    • D's avatar D says:

According to this one little black boy at a museum event I attended in Jackson MS, I’m one of those pink ones. Lol. I fucking love that memory. Poor parents were mortified but I thought it was funny as fuck.

  82. Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

    Then I’m a dinosaur…and glad we agree…lol

    • Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

Lol…that was to to D at 9:47. Fuck!

    • D's avatar D says:

I’ll agree I’m a dinosaur too apparently. And even though I’m not probably as liberal as You are I actually really appreciate the old liberal party and some of the sanity, by way of moral balance, they brought to topics. This new group though are fully insane. Extremely destructive. And morally bankrupt

  83. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

D – I couldn’t agree more. This Democratic party is nothing like the party my parents worked so hard for. They have gone off the deep end.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Everyone sees that except for the new progressive types. The people who need an enemy at all times. This life isn’t that long humans. That calendar date comes for all of us.

  84. Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

I should probably leave the blog due to incoherent blogging….sorry, lol.

  85. Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

Lol…this time in my life seems to be the most lucid, yet it seems people might think I’m not woke…lmao. WTF?

  86. Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

    Sharing….lol.

IF McDaniel is our next HC, his first order of business is to make sure Ross will let him craft this, not Grier.

It’s his team and lots of work to do.

  87. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

People who want to social engineer people are narcissists. They don’t understand the concept of freedom. They can never be happy until all things are aligned with their psyche. That’s fucked up!

  88. Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

The definition of narcissism is to get everyone to agree with/love you….lmao

  89. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I think I might be a progressive dinosaur. LOL

  90. Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

    The dark side…lol

  91. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

OD you’re killin me with your stupid w/l stat

No reasonable person would count 2019 and most say his 5 wins was incredible

  92. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

We’re all caught up with the societal issues. On a football note, we know Mike McDaniel is a proponent of the run game being the core of the offense. Hallelujah!!!

I think it’s a great thing for Tua. Waddle too.

Yes lots of work needs to be done. I see the offense having a lot of turnover. That had to happen anyway.

  93. Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

For the record, I could care less about color in Ross’s ownership….he just wants to win, just too stupid to win. Yikes!

  94. Brian in NY's avatar Brian in NY says:

“Okay glad I could help”. 😂

  95. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Steve, I think now we might know there was stress and disagreement within the organization at the beginning of the season. Maybe everyone said hey let’s try to play better and ride this out, for the good of the players. At the end of the season there was still a problem. It could have nothing to do with race, but simple dysfunction.

Okay Flores got fired. Lots of coaches have been fired if you don’t win enough and you’re not playing nice with others. Flores is acting like he’s Belichick. He’s not even close. Then he uses Belichick as his smoking gun. There’s a lot of weird accusations going on.

That said, I hope none of them are true.

  96. Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

Lol…not sure of all the definitions in this world today, but if you think the conservatives/Republicans are not as narcissistic as the left, you’ve lost me. And fucking stop it…lol.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

All politicians are narcissists, both parties. I don’t like people of either side telling others what freedom means. It’s pretty fuckin simple. LOL

    • Brian in NY's avatar Brian in NY says:

There seem to be more people than ever far left and far right. It just doesn’t seem like there are than many Republicans because they are made to constantly defend their position and beliefs, they are made to feel ashamed for being Republican. Look no further than Hollywood for that. This country has gotten so divided, I often wonder if it will ever find its way back.

    • Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

Brian, it’s on both sides and rampant… complicity everywhere.

  97. Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

I just say bullshit right or left politically….it’s all rotten to me.

You people can call me out for expessing liberal ideology so be sure the conservative side is expressinng ALL my freedom….lol. and my ideology…lol.

    I want it all…lol.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Both sides of our political spectrum violate freedom.

      Amendment I
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

      It’s the first one.

  98. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Okay we have a new HC and the guy who was rumored to be that guy for weeks is Mike McDaniel. Maybe he’ll be awesome or fail. Go Phins!!! 😉

We know the offense will change. It has to because it wasn’t good enough. Maybe the Desaun Watson rumors will end too. Hopefully…?

  99. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

The NFLN is doing everything they can to avoid the Flores accusations during Super Bowl week. They show past SB games and have very little current event news.

Tom Brady said I didn’t want to announce my retirement during Championship week and make me a bigger story than the playoffs but it got out.

Flores said I don’t care, we need change. How? You were a black HC for 3 years with the Miami Dolphins and got fired. Your lawsuit is mired in contradictions. Sorry it is.

Yes the NFL needs more diversity in Head Coach and Front Office jobs. But you shit on a lot of people.
