A look at our Running Backs

The way I see it, the unit that is the closest to being a complete unknown other than our offensive line, is our running back group. We’ve assembled a few pieces, a few with similar skill sets, and really, not one clear number one guy that at least on paper looks to receive the lions share of carries. In today’s NFL, that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Many teams have RB by committee and our Head Coach, Mike McDaniel employed his running backs in that very same manner across the country in San Francisco as run game coordinator. To further illustrate my point, the only back in our stable that came with 70 yards of a 1000 yard season was our last pickup, Sony Michel, who has played for the Patriots and Rams. In fact, discard the yardage stats, the only RB on our team who had more than 200 carries in a season is Sony Michel. At the moment, we have 7 RB’s on our roster, Sony Michel, Chase Edmonds, Raheem Mostert, Myles Gaskin, Salvon Ahmed, Zaquandre White and Gerrid Doaks. Since we have a FB on our roster, that means maybe 3-4 RB’s on the roster and a couple on the PS.

It’s going to be interesting to see if rookie UDFA Zaquandre White can develop quickly enough and show enough to stay on the roster. If we carry 3, that would be nearly impossible, but if we do carry 4 backs, I think White has a chance. Mostert is a speed guy and we will try to get him out in space to get big chunks of yardage. He will not be a bellcow back, only Michel even partially resembles that type of back. Edmonds is a very good receiving back who has caught more than 50 passes in a season and Myles Gaskin is very much the same, missing 50 by one with 49 receptions last season. Both Edmonds and Gaskin had 4 TD’s receiving each last season.

You look at some teams and you know they have a RB that will be getting tons of touches, especially carries. Najee Harris of the Steelers, Jonathan Taylor of the Colts, Antonio Gibson of the Commanders, and then you have the 2 hybrid backs who may as many receptions as carries like Alvin Kamara and Dalvin Cook. Sony Michel was 12th in rushing last season with 845 yards, Gaskin was next at #22 with 612 yards. This is why when you look at our team, and try to figure out who’s going to do what, besides the numerous questions about the O-line, the runni9ng backs are really the next biggest question. On defense, we couldn’t be any more set, everyone has their place. At WR, and even TE, we know who who the top 3 WR’s are, and we know the top 3 TE’s. Will the O-line stay with Terron Armstead at LT, Liam Eichenberg at LG, Connor Williams at C, Robert Hunt at RG and Austin Jackson at RT? Will we just play the hot hand at RB each week or will we rotate backs so often there will never really be a top back?

I wouldn’t say I’m concerned about run game, much of that will actually depend on the aforementioned O-line and its success in our new outside zone blocking scheme, which employs lots of movement, and a lot of choreographed movements, so guys need to be where they’re supposed to be or else! I know a lot fo us were hoping for a top tier RB in this year’s draft and oddly enough it was the Jets who ending up getting one of the best RB’s in the draft in Breece Hall. Instead, we traded for one of the most dynamic WR’s in the NFL, and in turn settled for a collection of decent running backs, not one 1000 yard back (which in a 16 or 17 game season isn’t all that impressive anyway). I think the depth chart at RB will constantly morph as players get banged up and considering Sony Michel is really the closest player to a bellcow back, I’d guess he’ll get the most carries, but not necessarily the most touches. A short passing game with RB’s is essentially the same as a running game and something Tua excels at since he delivers a quick, accurate ball. I think Mostert and Edmonds may catch more passes than they have carries while Michel will lead the rushing attack. I’d love to see Zaquandre White make the team because there’s nothing like a hungry young back that runs with ferocity. Training Camp is just a few days away, so we may just get some idea about what’s happening with our RB’s, or we may have to wait until preseason or later. It’s going to be fun to watch no matter what.

Wyo -Does everything you post (videos) go to spam automatically unless you type something first? That seems really annoying, although now you know what you gotta do

  5. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

Mike, I have the same issue with WordPress. I can’t just post a link or it doesn’t show up. (I assume it is in the spam folder) You have to type something above or below the link for a link to actually make it past the folder. I have just gotten used to it now so I ALWAYS type something.

SOMETIMES even that doesn’t work so I just assume that this site doesn’t trust the site the link is to or something like that.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I don’t even know if we could change the spam settings on the site to make it easier. My guess would be they are controlled by WordPress across the board, on all platforms.

      • Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

I really don’t see a reason to go fiddling with any settings. If folks are swift enough remember that you have to type something, then they will struggle.

Similarly, when you paste a link you have to delete all of the host web-site modifiers. If it is a Jpg you have to delete everything after the .jpg, or .GIF or .PNG.

Everything after the file type (jpg, gif, png) are size and positioning modifiers for the host site. (Align to the top, center on page, reduce the size, etc.)

Thank you for your efforts Mike E.

RB by committee may actually end up being a strength if McDaniel can scheme it up for the position and utilize the variety of talent at his discretion/disposal.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Yeah, there’s only so many snaps on offense to begin with, and we have two very high volume WR’s right now, so it might just be better that we don’t have to rely on one back eating too many snaps.

  7. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Rocko – Not extremely deep into the book yet, I think around page 200 or so. Not sure why you hate Ferro so much. Also, not getting why you dislike Glokta either, but maybe I’m just not far enough into it yet.

    • Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

I don’t dislike Ferro Maljinn, she is actually a pretty cool character (descendent from a demon and all)

I got Sand Glokta confused with his “boss” Goyle. Frankly they are both POS torturers. My biggest issue with Glokta is he is so bitter and self pittying. I know all the characters in Abercrombie’s books are grey, even the “heros” but Glokta is an evil person. Willing to torture false confessions out of those he interrogates as an inquisitor for expediency.

Maybe evil is too strong a word, he will do evil shit as an expediency. Yeah, slaughter all those people, we need to get moving” kind of shit.

Great write on a perplexing subject Mike E. And I have no clue who is gonna get the ball more either out of that whole crew.

Forget whether it was about the Shanahan system in Denver or his son’s in San Fran, but read they’d just go with the “hot hand.” You are working against a given team’s D and all of a sudden you get a lot of work. Way our RB stack is set-up could see the same here.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Thanks Stanger – You do have to admit, our offense is a mystery right now, especially in regards to the run game

      • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Then again, his books do jump around in time a little so, maybe he will!

  11. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

LOL Kong – So it was you who hates Ferro. I guess I’ll find out, or we’ll just have a disagreement. Really enjoying the book though, I’m up to the tournament, and Glokta just met Bayaz and Ninefingers .

    • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

She’s just hateful; I understand her character and she is true to that, but I don’t like reading her. As for Glotka, he does what he has to in order to survive. He is embittered and has no empathy for the people he hurts, but IMO nearly every evil thing he does is because it’s what is required of him. He’s simply pragmatic and morally neutral.

It’s all personal preference of course, but I think Glotka has the best arc in the series, and I enjoy reading him probably more than even the Northmen (who are my favorite character group as a whole- they are all awesome).

  12. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Nice write, Mike. Not concerned about the committee approach. A lot of the time it’s about the game plan and utilizing the different skills sets based on the opponent. Then there is always the hot hand approach. I see us keeping 4 RBs but maybe only 3 will be active each week.

    Patriot,

Since I have been in office, I have become the #1 target of the Left, the liberal biased media, and Big Tech giants like Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube.

I have been smeared again and again by media companies like The New York Times, Washington Post, and the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel where they distort my comments, twist them through a liberal prism, and omit most of what I actually say.

I have been silenced, censored, and suspended by the social media oligarchs because I tell the truth, and oftentimes, it is the truth the liberal mainstream media does not want to hear. It counters their narrative, and they refuse to allow it. So they silence free speech.

Yet, despite all of this unconstitutional collusion between these far-Left parties working for political gain at the expense of the American people, I will not give up. They will not deter me. And that is why today, I am officially announcing my re-election campaign for the Wisconsin Senate seat.

Our offense was a mystery the last 3 years under Flores. At least now we know the system. 😉

  17. Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

    And, can’t forget about specialists….

  18. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Tim – Although Flores’ offense was a mystery, I would have bet $1000 before this season if he was still here that both Jaylen Waddle and Tyreek Hill got at least 100 targets each. With McD, not so sure that’s the case because he wants to be more balanced than we were.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I don’t care about the stats for individual players. Move the ball and score points. Hill and Waddle with get the ball plenty. And if teams decide to focus on them others with feed.

      • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I don’t think I’m emphasizing that I care about stats, just that I really have no idea how we’ll be distributing the football, especially with the running backs.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

No I’m not saying you are. Just that the more weapons you have the harder it is for opponents to defend. We might run 38 times and pass 27 one game and then see it flip in another. Then we might see some 32/32 balance in other games.

      • Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

Agreed TK…more weapons, more talent, better coaching, and no one really knows how it’s all going to gel…

        ….still a blank page

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Yes, but that’s not a mystery to me. A mystery to me is something we have nothing to go by, no understanding. I know what kind of offense McDaniel has brought here. It’s based on the WCO principles and mostly from what Mike Shanahan liked to run. Zone run schemes and lots of play-action passing.

      • Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

TK, you might know the system, but the true genius of all of it is scheme and execution from the players we have…you might have an outline, but that’s it.

Fill in blanks leaves creativity, thus mystery. Can’t wait to see
        .

  19. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

And he seems to think they are all working together “in consort.
    —————–
They are, so it is not a conspiracy

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

That’s what a conspiracy is, a group conspiring together. You’re talking about a conspiracy theory.

  20. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Tim – I hear ya, and I think that’s probably how it’s going to work. I do believe we’re going to try and have more balance between run and pass than the previous coach though for sure.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

We also have to see if one of the young RBs emerges. You never know, we’ve seen late round and UDFAs becomes really good players, especially at RB.

One thing I want to see on offense besides scoring more points is our offense keeping our defense out of tough situations. Like being pinned inside our 5 and going 3 and out so the opponent starts at midfield or better.

  21. Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

I think McDaniel should be chomping at the bit to see what he has…

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

By the way there is no such thing as alternative facts. A fact means it’s true and happened. It’s not an opinion or an op-ed piece of information that creates an opinion. It’s reality. Once a society loses their ability to accept truth, it will crumble.

M – don’t sweat the Madden ratings. Tua doesn’t get respect anywhere else, why would he get any from EA Sports? 🤣

  30. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

If you guys want to see what type of base offense we will run, watch old Broncos video under Mike Shanahan and his son Kyle in SF. Remember, the FB is a coveted position in this offense. That’s rare these days. McDaniel believes in it and has stated most opponents don’t have a lot of experience against it. He thinks it’s an advantage. It doesn’t mean we’re going all old school offense, but we might use a FB 12-15 times per game as opposed to 2-3 times that maybe we’ve seen in recent years.

  31. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Krishna – what goes both ways? There are probably 3 news stations that have an alternative bias like Fox News, Newsmax and maybe another one I can’t think of at the moment. 2) Jevon Holland: the second coming of Reshad Jones and just might even be better if his ascension continues.

They drilled 400′ into the base of the mesa and hit a large impenetrable object. They came up with flat pieces of metal from the drilling. The metal is made from 2 of the rarest elements on earth. One element on one side and the other element on the other side fused together. Other episodes have talked about portals existing on the ranch. I find it very interesting.

This is a cut from the second to last episode.

It is odd. Lets say Ross offered $100k per loss…. it had nothing to do with him getting fired. His wrongful termination case is about racial discrimination. How do you prove that against the only team with a black HC and GM?

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I don’t know how that can be proven either. Doesn’t make any sense. He was hired as a HC for 3 years and got fired like many other coaches have. Flores seems he can’t accept is own flaws.

Sorta hurts to read that Noah Igbonoghene is going into camp battling for the 4th CB slot, especially since when we use 6 DBs three of them should be safeties.

But that’s just part of what is in a well-done dissection of key Qs on D by Barry Jackson.

Five key questions for the Miami Dolphins on defense as camp nears. And potential answers

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Well he’s not going to jump X, Jones and Needham. If he can be the 4th and get on the field here and there that would somewhat promising.

      • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

But when he was drafted didn’t you think he’d be at least CB #3 at this point. He’s now competing for CB #4. He’s a first round pick.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

We’re well past that. Needham is the better player.

      • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Yeah we’re well past that. Iggy is going into a contract year in 2023 (don’t think taking the 5th year option an option).

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Yeah don’t see the team giving him the 5th year. Unless he’s amazing this year and I’m not sure how that’s going to happen.

      • Ken's avatar Ken says:

He should be able to jump Needham especially from an athletic standpoint. If he can’t then he is truly a bust

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Ken, as a 1st round pick Iggy is already a bust. Needham is the better player. He’s got better instincts. That’s what Iggy lacks.

      • Ken's avatar Ken says:

Needham is an okay role player who lacks the physical talent to a starting cb in this league. Iggy should have the ability to unseat him

  56. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

All the Dolphins news is about what has to happen; who must play well, who’s on the hot seat, if this doesn’t happen etc. Seriously? Let me guess, the gist of these articles is if things don’t go well it won’t be a good season. LOL

Mike E, you write more interesting and knowledgeable articles about our team than the people who profit off of it.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Thanks Tim – I’m not trying to get ratings or push some bullshit controversy to get clicks. It’s a shame the way our beat writers disrespect Tua and the team

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I know you’re not. You’re honest with the potential and the questions we all have because we haven’t seen the new team with the new coaching staff yet. These other writers can’t seem to have an even keel. It’s like they want to predict the future but are having a hard time with it in case they’re wrong. LOL

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Same ole bs from nitwit sports people

Before a broadcast they’d give their keys to the game, and I don’t remember it ever coming close, yet one team would win a totally different way

  57. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Ken, the problem is Iggy has not shown that. Needham is a gamer who plays over 50% of the snaps both inside and outside at corner. His playing time decreased last year with the addition of our young safeties. Iggy played in 7 games and only 17% snaps on defense. This is a big year for him.

    • Ken's avatar Ken says:

I am just saying Iggy has superior physical skills. If they don’t believe he has a chance to beat out Needham than just get rid of him now. He should be competing for the 3 spot. Not just trying to get the 4 spot

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

He’s competing for any role. I just don’t see him jumping the top 3 corners.

      • Ken's avatar Ken says:

Then he should have been cut already

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Ken, why cut him before he’s not the 4th best corner? He’s really young and if he does pan out in the next couple of years you made a big mistake. We’ll know more after TC and the PS when we cut down to 53.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

It’s the same as the OL, me no like him, kick him out

  58. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Iggy is only 22 years old. That said I think this year is his last chance

  59. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I’ll say this, I won’t be surprised if Iggy gets cut. If he doesn’t maybe the light came on. Remember he was a WR converted to CB in college with very little experience and we drafted him too high. There is no doubting that.

You don’t take projects in the 1st round. Grier and company took a chance and it hasn’t panned out so far. I’m not one for the 20/20 hindsight thing, but here’s the 2020 draft and you tell me who we coulda-shoulda?

    I’m a competition-is-good fan..

    https://dolphinstalk.com/2022/07/why-a-tough-afc-could-be-miamis-kryptonite-in-2022/

I guess some people aren’t very good at math😆

Let’s play Mr Rogers…ok boys and girls, is it better to have 7 strong teams not counting the Fins or 9?

Either way we still play the same schedule, more good teams mean more teams knock each other off, similar to last year where it didn’t take 12 wins to get in

Bottomline is we should be able to win 11 and be guaranteed a WC, some years that isn’t enough, when the conf is top heavy 1-7

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

The thing about that is if everyone is going to look at the schedule and say we can’t win this game or that one and no way we can beat this team before it happens, it’s easy to be negative. The games have not been played yet.

Our defense could make it very difficult for teams to score. When you watch a good unit being built through the draft and then adding some key FAs over the last few years, and they’re all starting to communicate better and know each other, that can get scary.

DC Josh Boyer knows all these guys since 2019. He also knows some players from NE before that. Coaches knowing players is really important. They know what they’re getting. They’ve seen it.

      • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

If I’m Boyer I’d game plan against Lamar, Allen and any other running QB just like we did last year against the Ravens, then other teams with less mobile guys hit them with the Amoeba on 3rd downs

Pressure the hell out of them

Against a running team I’m playing Tindall and Roberts in the middle at the same time on 1st down, and sometimes on 2nd depending on situation

  61. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

I’ll say this about Iggy… he’s only 22 years old and playing at a position that is one of the most difficult to learn (CB). Generally, it takes 3 to 4 years to master the position.

RARELY does anybody come into the league at such a young age (20 years old when drafted) at one of the most difficult positions and have success.

That said — and in year 3 — Iggy MUST show that he belongs or he’ll be either cut or traded next offseason.

  62. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

As a fan I’ve already moved on from Iggy. I don’t consider him a key player. The Dolphins success in 2022 has nothing to do with him.

If that’s bothering you remember we have two 1sts, a 2nd and two 3rds in 2023.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Good way to look at it, but I don’t see a reason to give up on him, just don’t expect anything from him, and maybe we’re saying the same thing

“ The Miami Dolphins are closer to the Buffalo Bills than most people want to admit and mainly those people in New England,” Orlovsky said, transcribed by the Miami Herald. “They have the same record as the Baltimore Ravens over the past two years, 19-14, and that’s with the worst offensive line in football. They added the best left tackle in football [Terron Armstead]. They added a receiver with 200 catches, 2,500 yards and 24 touchdowns. This is a very good football team based on their defense.”

    • Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

When I read the Orlovsky article I was surprised…speaks to talent we had and now added more….now coach and scheme it up

  66. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

Iggy was a reach and a bust as a first round pick. He has played up the the level is a udfa so was a wasted pick IMO. Overall Grier has proven to me at least that he should not be in charge of a franchise.

  67. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

Tua over Herbert was the nail in his coffin to me. But that entire first round was malpractice

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I don’t think Herbert over Tua was such a slam dunk like you believe it is. I think we’ll see how good Tua can be this season. I do feel like the abundance of high picks that draft made Grier less risk averse than usual and was little giddy. You can’t rate a guy on one draft anyway.

      • Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

i agree with you for the most part. One good draft when you have a plethora of picks does not make him a good GM either

  68. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

His and his teams inability to find or groom an offensive like for most of his tenure with the franchise, especially because he has been a high level voice in the scouting department / front office for the entire breadth of our mediocre streak the last two decades.

He is on the shortest of leashes with me.

    • Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

*** Does not speak well for him

part of sentence deleted by my fat finger on the iphone screen.

    • Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

He seems to have the team positioned very well now (let’s hope) both presently and for the future….the tear down and rebuild was necessary…

Disagree with you on Tua for now and willing to see what he is after this season….it’s not an apples to apples comparison at this point.

Completely agree with about the OL and Grier.

He also cut bait with Flores…kudos

  69. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Rock – I guess one thing you can kill Grier for is his inability to get the HC right. Obviously we all hope McD is the guy, and of course I’m not sure how much Ross had to do with any of the HC hires, but he’s failed to get the right guy here to win.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Grier has only hired two HCs, Flores and McDaniel. He wasn’t the lead on the other HCs before that. You had Parcells/Ireland, Ireland, Hickey, and then Tannenbaum was the lead on hiring Gase.

  70. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

To be clear regarding Iggy, he’s still got time to turn it around. The same goes for Austin Jackson, being both were drafted so young. I’d give a mulligan to both players due to being drafted at age 20 and the COVID-related progression stoppages.

The same goes for Tua (not his age, but a destroyed hip injury in his senior year and multiple broken ribs suffered in game 2 vs the Bills last season).

I’m not an excuse-maker, but this is the reality of the situation for these players. It’s premature to call any of these guys busts before this season is all said and done. We’ll see what happens.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

The difference is Jackson and Tua start regardless of performance, Iggy hasn’t been on the field much.

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

I hear ya, and I agree. There’s also more competition for Iggy (see X and Byron) than there is on the O-Line. Tua… he’s going to ball out this year, my guy! 🙂

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Yeah but Needham and even Justin Coleman played many more snaps. This is a big year for Iggy.

  71. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Bad news in the stanger clan today. Wife is up in NOVA for what was supposed to be 6 days to visit with her girls and take care of some stuff. She tested positive for Covid today.

Since getting on a plane is no longer an option, her first and strongest thought was to rent a car and drive back to FLA. That’s like 2 days. Hoping she just rides it out there in her hotel room. Seems safer for a bunch of people involved.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

That sucks, sorry to hear. When you said NOVA I guess you mean Nova Scotia? That is quite the drive.

    —————————–
That is your take and I understand we want to hit on every pick and not reach on guys like we did on Iggy and you could say Jackson also. I can’t agree with this statement though. Every GM has their misses. Going by Grier’s GM record, if you matched his record with all the other GM’s or HC’s who call the shots like Billicheat, then 70% of them wouldn’t deserve their job.

Iggy was not all on Grier. Flores fell in love with the kid. Flores spent 2 days at Auburn, first for Iggy’s pro day and then a second day for a private workout. Flores pounded the table for Iggy, IMO.

I didn’t like the pick when it happened and I also think we pulled the trigger on Jackson to early but we needed an OT.

    • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Seems we should get used to Grier for a while after last year’s draft. Batted it out of the park with the first 3. Waddle, Phillips and Holland made the all-rookie team.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Grier became the head honcho of football operations in 2019 after Tannenbaum and Gase were let go. Most of us agree we have a good roster and we’re in good cap shape, with two 1st round picks, a 2nd and two 3rds in next year’s draft. We went 10-6 in 2020 and 9-8 in 2021. Kind of hard to get on the guy because of the rebuild 5-11 2019 season that began the new start to where we are. Time for the next step albeit with a new HC and staff.

BBM, I believe Flores knew the Auburn HC that got him high on Iggy. So far it’s been a miss. It happens. Like you said we’re not the only team that misses on some prospects. Sometimes you make up for that with finding players in the mid and late rounds or UDFA etc. – Sieler, Needham, Van Ginkel, Brandon Jones, Smythe, Gaskin.

  77. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Honest talk: one cannot assess a Draft class after a mere two years on the regular… and most ESPECIALLY after the COVID year where there were essentially no offseason programs.

The ENTIRE 2020 Draft class (all teams) must be evaluated as such. I can’t help but feel that people aren’t understanding that, especially the MSM (the dunce-cap wearers that they are).

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Understood. But some guys have shown more than others. We’ll see how our roster pans out with a new coaching staff. We all know how that works.

  78. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

    • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

      • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Of course, that aspect of it definitely sucks. The important thing is she’s gonna be OK, if she got really sick it wouldn’t be good no matter where she was.

  79. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Our offense to me is how opponents can cover Hill, Waddle, Wilson, Gesicki and Edmonds etc. I don’t think most teams have enough skill to do so. The mix of run and horizontal and vertical pass is going to be tough. 🙂

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

The article you posted on our route concepts is getting me even more fired up about our O, and when I see MSM still saying it’s all about our D, just have to shake my head

We need a similar D from our last 2 years, then the improved O will make us dangerous

Teams like Pitt, KC and Buffalo have had great vertical Os in the past decade, and the cheats and other teams have found a way to stop them, because at winning time it’s hard to make plays on O consistently

On the other hand the cheats short passing game has been mostly unstoppable with Brady

I see Tua as a QB, that can have similar success like Brady, because of his accuracy

Comp % isn’t the end all of an accurate QB, many factors come into play

I haven’t seen Tua make many throws, that were inaccurate, miscommunication maybe, but not inaccurate

This is why I think Tua will eventually be a franchise QB and MM will bring it out

      • Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

Pretty much agree with you…saw him play in several games at AL and was very impressed with not only his accuracy (including tight windows), but his anticipation was incredible. Much easier in college, but he’s got the most important tools (smarts inc.), imo, to excel with the right coaching.

      • Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

That’s what impressed me so much with Brady as I choke to say it…..respect though…lol

  81. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

I guess Dickhead Florio is talking shit again. He posted an “article” That Tyreek Hill keeps adding more pressure to Tua.

I think the basis of Florio’s point is stupid. Talk from a team mate CANNOT and WILL NOT increase the amount of pressure that is already on Tua to succeed this year.

Does ANYONE actually believe that all things being equal at the end of the season that Tua will suffer more for not meeting expectations than he would if his team mate was not supportive of him in the offseason?

Bottom line is Hill’s comments have NO BARING at all on what the team will do with Tua next off season.

Here is what Florio thinks might happen??

Grier: Man, If Tyreek hadn’t gotten my hopes all up with his talk in June / July I might not be this disappointed now, but because he did, now I have to get rid of Tua….

This “controversy” is stemming from another interview that Hill gave where he was asked what were some of his determining factors for picking Miami of the Jets. His response was something along the lines of “Zach Wilson is a dog, but I’d rather play with the most accurate quarterback in the NFL,”

Florio took offense to this and now is piling on Hill for adding undue pressure to Tua….

FLORIO HOW DO YOU STILL HAVE A JOB?

(I posted that on his website in the comments, let’s see if it makes it through moderation, which it was still sitting in 15 minutes after I posted. LOL

  82. stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

This new O scheme plus all the speed to throw too may do wonders for Tua this year.

“In 2021, the 49ers averaged 6.9 yards after the catch on passes from Garoppolo, which led the NFL. Tagovailoa’s 4.8 yards after the catch on passes he threw ranked in the bottom-six of the league.”

    • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:
