All that talk about Wilson in Denver. Here they were buying their Super Bowl tickets. Lol

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

The pass rush is really good, as is their D, on O Wilson can move the ball, they just need to clean up the penalties and get in synch

I wouldn’t want to play them

The Cowboys should sign Ryan Fitzpatrick, but they won’t, because they are not creative thinkers.

    btw
I’m almost to the point of saying that Coach McCarthy sucks.

  5. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

If you want yet another reason to praise McDaniel, look at what Hackett did against the other HOF HC with a long career.

Hackett looked confused, over-matched, and just plain not ready.

I know he was on the road, but it’s not like his QB didn’t know how to play in Seattle.

Hackett had the better team and squandered the talent.
McDaniel never gave the patsies a decent chance to deploy their talent.

A TE we had for a while that I liked was Chris Myarick.
He caught the game-winning* TD pass for the Giants.

    Unexpected facts:
The Seahawks are in 1st place in the NFC West.
The Texans are tied for 1st in the AFC South although they have not won a game.
    Brissett won.

    Expected facts:
The Packers are in trouble at WR.
The Patriots are in last place in the AFC East.
    So are the jests.

  9. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

I just want to congratulate Geno on the W and thank him for giving an AFC team an L. Eight years in between starts. WTG Geno!

Their OL is terrible and their D played out their ass because it was vs Russ. It won’t last.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Seattle has 6 more games to win, 2 vs SF, 1 each vs AFC West sans Denver and whoever else they play in AFC East…oh never mind it’s jets, so whatever

  10. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Good choice, but without Tyreek we’re mostly the same O as last year and the O made some key 1st downs to keep the D off the field and never put them in a bad spot

Our D can play thus way mist weeks, if the O helps them out

    https://www.thephinsider.com/2022/9/13/23349293/miami-dolphins-most-valuable-player-week-one

Onto Kohou, he was a gem in his limited snaps, like our guardian angel

    • pheloniusphish's avatar pheloniusphish says:

I wouldn’t say it is mostly the same offense. Give the install a little time to sink in, see what the offense looks like. And certainly MM appears to trust the offense enough to play aggressive, which was not the case last year.

Crazy thing about the Giants W is they ran it (238 yards) down the throat of a good defensive team. Then their D kept Henry and Co. in check, for the most part.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

That’s week 1 for you, more so than ever, with a lot of teams not playing starters in PS

As for our game against the cheats, we were about as advertised and similar to PS, as were the cheats and their O struggles

  13. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

We kept hearing how LB was one of the weakest units on the team

Seems they played pretty well, considering AVG coming back for appendix only played 7 snaps, Tindall didn’t play much and Flowers was inactive

That’s some pretty good depth, that was barely on the field

If I had to guess where our 1st round pick will go, I’d have to say on OL or CB even though it seems were set there when Jones comes back (Jones trade in 2023 possible) or just BPA

  22. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

Kader Kohou provided a big hit on Patriots receiver, Nelson Agholor, forcing a fumble which was recovered by Jaelan Phillips. Miami was able to ice away the game from that point on.

In addition to the late forced fumble, Kader Kohou – in just 18 defensive snaps played – had 3 tackles, a tackle for loss and a pass defensed (on a 4th and 3 situation for New England, no less).

Last year game 1 Howard had very little action his way, since he wasn’t occupied with his cover, he freelanced off and got the game winning fumble recovery

This year game 1 Waddle wasn’t getting the action he did last year, but when his opportunity came on 4th and 7 he was fresh and ready to go, and you could say the same with Kohou on his forced fumble

I expect more of these type of plays from playmakers hungry to contribute

Depth, keeping guys fresh, might be huge for us this year

  29. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

    Lol

    Xavien Howard was targeted only once in the game and the pass was intercepted by Jevon Holland after Howard tipped it;

  30. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

So if Boyer was running the show on D last year and Flores had no interest in the O, what was it that Flores did, that made people think he was a good coach?

I’d seen this on the highlights: Leonard Fournette leveled Micah Parsons on Sunday. Shannon and Skip discuss…

    • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

Excepting maybe Henry, I think fournette is the best ‘bruiser’ rb in the nfl. He’s a beast.

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

I dearly wanted a bruiser RB entering the 2022 season.
        1A: Rashaad Penny
        1B: Leonard Fournette

Clearly, Coach McDaniel doesn’t believe the need for as much.

    • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

Of course after watching the opening 10 seconds of the vid, it looks like just they’re talking about the block when Parsons was already engaged with the lineman.

I didn’t watch the rest because I can’t stand those guys, but I think that block is fine. He didn’t go low, so it wasn’t a chop block. They can’t take away double team blocks, so what is there to be called? It’s football.

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Concurred! It’s football and it was a legal block.

However, I think if we see enough of this kind of LEGAL block continue (or increase in popularity), it may become outlawed by the No Fun League.

      • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

I’m kind of commenting my way through this, and I just looked it up to see what the fuss is about since I refuse to watch those assclowns on Undisputed, lol. I guess it was about a crack block since he couldn’t see Fournette, but it was still legal since it was in the chest.

      • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

yeah, violent hits like that, you get enough, they’ll try to take them away.

  35. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

Steve, you really don’t like Wilkins.

  36. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

    Sports Illustrated:
The Ravens managed just 64 yards rushing against New York. Newly signed Kenyan Drake got most of the workload and he finished with 31 yards on 11 carries.

Quarterback Lamar Jackson had just 17 yards on six carries but he had a deft scamper where he avoided several defenders and earned a first down.

  37. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

    and
“They’re very physical when moving players and that’s one of their challenges,” McDaniel said. “And you can’t take anything for granted really when you play a dynamic playmaker at the quarterback position like they have Lamar Jackson so it’s going to be a fun game, a challenging game, one that we’re going to have to leave no stone unturned in the entire process for us to come out the way we want to come out this coming Sunday.”

  38. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

More from the Ravens beat writer on SI.com
“Last season, the Dolphins employed a Cover 0 defensive scheme that took the Ravens out of their game. Miami won that matchup 22-10.

Baltimore had 94 yards on 23 carries in that game. Jackson led the team with 39 yards rushing on nine carries.

McDaniel is expecting the Ravens to play much better, especially in their home opener.”

  39. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

    Finally,
“The Jets stacked the box and dared Jackson to beat them through the air, and that’s what he did, throwing three touchdown passes in the 24-9 victory.”

I think we have better cover DBs than the jests.

  40. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

McDaniel said, “It’s as good of a challenge as you get in the National Football League,” McDaniel said about playing the Ravens. “I’ve been following that team, and it has spawned a ton of ideas for me personally in the run game. They do an unbelievable job at forcing you to defend all gaps and be sound …”

  41. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

“the Ravens’ rushing attack struggled to get rolling in the opener against the New York Jets.

McDaniel is not putting much stock into that initial performance.”

  42. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

The jets threw the ball 59 times against the Ravens, sheesh.

  43. stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

You’al watched the replay a bunch of times. Did X deserve a PI call on the endzone INT he batted to Holland? I’m thinking he did. Was grabbing enough for one.

    • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

It was clearly PI, no doubt; it’s why the makeup call they threw on X later didn’t bug me even though it gave them the ball back and ultimately 7 points.

We ended up ahead in that exchange because when they got their call the game was basically already over.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Probably, but he had great position, his head was turned around, and made a play on the ball, had Parker have made a play on the ball with his right hand I think they call it

      • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

  50. stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Did you guys catch the coaches handshake at the end of the game? Belicheck came steaming up from like 25 yards with his hand out. Soon as there was hand contact he did an abrupt 180 and steamed away. Look like McDaniel wanted to say something, but that was lost.

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Didn’t see it live, but I saw it on the replay. Belicheat* is a prick, IMO. He at least could have had a few words with Coach McDaniel, congratulating him on his first NFL win as HC.

  51. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

I was wondering if belicheat was steamed because we threw it in the final two minutes, if so, that’s crap. Pets had a timeout and we needed a first down to seal it.

    • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

Maybe he’s just sick and tired of losing to miami… 🤣

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

That may have been the case, but that still, IMO, doesn’t excuse Belicheat* from being a good sport. Lord knows he’s done far worse as HC of the Patsies*. Go out there and congratulate Coach McDaniel on his first NFL win.

      • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Low class move, but did you catch him throwing tantrums on the sideline during the 4th Q? Maybe he knew he was not ready for polite conversation.

    • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

If we really wanted to ice it we would have kicked a field goal.

  52. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

TJ Watt out 6 weeks, we play Pitt week 7 😁

  53. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

Do the Ravens have injury problems at OT? I think they do.

Also I think Kenyan Drake is very fast, but he’s very inconsistent, so if he is their #1 rusher (besides Jackson), and they are having OL issues, then we might be able to make them throw and have another amoeba-fest.

And are they going to be starting 2 4th round rookies in the DB?
    Against Hill and Waddle?

    • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

The more I’m looking at the matchup, the more I like it. It all starts with keeping Jackson contained, and we’ve got the speed on defense to do it.

I’m curious to see if they will line up in a lot of power sets/ 12 personnel and try to jam the ball down our throats and playaction to their TEs off that.

      • naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

They tried playing that rookie TE Isaiah Likely against the jest, but he had a really rough game. The HC flat out said he is going to yell at the kid. TE is a difficult position to learn in the NFL.

I read somewhere that Baltimore’s OGs are both stiff and don’t bend.
Jeez if you stand straight up against us, both Wilkins and Seiler will blast right by you.

And you cannot block either Davis or Jenkins unless you get under Davis’s pads or dbl team the big guy.

Last year we got in Jackson’s head and psyched him out so badly he did not know where the pressure was coming from or who his hot read was.

  54. stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Great profile of Tanner Conner by Barry Jackson. Hard for me not to think he is Gesicki’s replacement in waiting.
    ——————

“Miami had taken me on a 30 visit, so they obviously saw something they liked in me. And I felt a genuine relationship there and felt like I trusted who Embree was and his track record. Some teams hit me up the third day of the draft that I never talked to, and that’s kind of weird. You don’t want to sign somewhere where you never talked to them before. I went with what to me was loyalty.”

  55. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

I wonder if they trust Tindall enough yet to use him as a spy on Jackson.
I thought Phillips did well against him last year.

  56. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Whatcha gon’ do when Gesicki goes off for 150+ yards and 2+ TDs (probably in redzone sits) against some team this year?

Are ya going to trade him to the highest bidder, or do ya realize he BELONGS on this team?

  57. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

I know Gesicki did not seem to contribute much, but he has never had much of a stat sheet vs. NE because taking the TE out of the game is a focus of bellicheat’s. He thinks that removes a safety valve of the QBs.

  58. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

I thought I read bellicheat’s lips when Tua was throwing those last second passes into the dirt to avoid the sack.
I think billie was yelling something about a Tuck Rule.

  59. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

I think it’s important for us to get a rushing TD from a RB from at least 18+ yards out against the Ravens.

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

That would be most ideal! Where’s Ricky Williams? LOL

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

‘Fast-n-furious’ is all fun and games… and it can be MOST LETHAL to an opposing Defense. But if we can’t gain the hard yards between the chains on the ground, ‘Fast-n-furious’ could become a mere gimmick.

  60. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

I know you alluded to it earlier, but we are not really built for smash mouth.
for sure we do not have a BruiserBack on the roster.

So I think we need to get some of those like you see in Mostert’s highlight reel.
Or at least spring Chase for a catch and run in the 20s for a TD.

especially if it can come early in the game.

Just to loosen up their LBs, so their DL can’t dig in and wall up against the rush plus tee off on Tua.

Coach Mike McDaniel said Monday that Jackson (ankle) could have finished Sunday’s game in an emergency situation, but the injury is serious enough that they’ll continue to monitor him ahead of Week 2, Travis Wingfield of the Dolphins’ official site reports.

      Cethan Carter

      Questionable
Miami coach Mike McDaniel said Monday that Carter is in concussion protocol, David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.

Nothing about Armstead or Little, so I assume that is good news.

  66. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

I’m watching the all-22 review Wyo posted earlier. The guy says with 6 minutes left when morestead punted it from about the 50, the snap was bad and bounced 2 feet in front of him, and he still got it off and down at the 4.

I saw a low snap, but didn’t see it bounce off the ground. That’s a hell of a play, not to mention the 58 yarder which was a big field position play. Definitely an upgrade over lame-ass Palardy from last year.

  67. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I think what happens in week one with players who didn’t get much or any PS action and then they start that first week can get banged up. Look around the league, lots of players went down for the year or for considerable time. They try to protect the players these days but with less physical action during TC also has a negative effect. Not every injury, but some of them.

You know what we saw on Sunday against the Pats was Belichick on how to defend the bootlegs. He’s known how to defend that for decades. He always has a player to combat that. Tua had to go into improv mode multiple times and he’s still not there yet. This offense is still in the learning process.

I’ll say this Edmonds is a weapon both rushing and receiving. Not just about stats but what he brings to the table. He’s an excellent receiver. He’ll have his moments as a rusher. But he’s another receiver out of the backfield when you need it.

Our running game is not built on smash mouth. It’s about movement and speed.

  73. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

We all saw what a difference Armstead makes at LT. That’s Tua’s strong side which people forget about. It’s not all about the blind side.

  74. randydolfan1947's avatar randydolfan1947 says:

Earlier someone reported that Armstead and Little were not on Miami’s injury report. While that MAY MEAN they’re not injured, it may also mean the FO is awaiting test results OR that more tests are pending. It’s a “little” too early to give the “all clear” on both of them just yet. Plus, there’s no need to give Harbaugh a heads up on these two until we absolutely have to. I’d sure hate to have to play Baltimore minus Armstead and Little in the 2nd week of the season.

OK, boyz and girlz, the 1972 Dolphins are one of the most famous teams ever, Primarily because of the “El Perfecto” season they had. However, the ’72 Dolphins ALSO did something, record wise, that had never been done before AND has never been done since.

    GIVE UP???

The ’72 Dolphins are the only franchise to lose the Super Bowl one season and come back and WIN IT THE NEXT SEASON!!! This year’s entry, the Cincinnati Bengals, who lost the last Super Bowl, seem very unlikely to return to the Super Bowl this season, let alone WIN IT!!

One thing I DO KNOW FOR SURE: NO TEAM will ever lose the Super Bowl one season and come back and have A PERFECT SEASON the next year!!—I’ll save my prediction for the Ravens game until we know more about Armstead and Little.

Y’all have a great evening and a better tomorrow!

(How tough was the call to go with WR Trent Sherfield and promoting WR River Cracraft instead of WR Erik Ezukanma? I know Erik obviously has flashed, but you have a background with Trent and River and they are trustworthy. What went into that decision? How tough a call was that?) – “No, it was tough because you know that Erik (Ezukanma) can make plays, but at the same time, we were anticipating some position versatility that we needed and having River come up, he can make a ton of plays, too. I think that is something that it is tough when you have multiple players that you’re confident in, but at the same time, you embrace those decisions on a weekly basis because it’s not what you’re left with, it’s who gives you the best opportunity in the given gameplan. So I was happy for River to get in and get some plays and I told Erik that it’s also an opportunity for him. Any time you’re not active on the active roster, the tendency for players to do is to is to – it sucks for them and they want to hide from the moment. I just told him, ‘No, this is something that you use to your advantage moving forward. You take in the environment. You take in the plays that you think you could make out there, and you use that as motivation moving forward to be extra detailed on your game plan. And as soon as he just gives the rest of his team the confidence that he can own game plans week-in, week-out from multiple positions, he won’t have that problem anymore, which he understood and he is going to move forward amicably.”

I just wish reporters and fans around the league would stop falling in love with day 3 rookie QBs. They were picked there for a reason.
During the PS S. T. played against the BUs and did well. That’s promising, but he is on the side to learn and pick Tua and Teddy’s brains.
Teddy at the most is a 5th round pick. Forget that, keep him for insurance.

Apologies if anyone has tweeted this and I missed it, but I love what Tua did on this play. Check the first and second tweets in the thread. When he’s starting to do the finesse stuff he’s getting to the next level. Don’t see it on every play yet, but it’s a good sign in my eyes.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

That’s what Joe Montana and Steve Young lived on. Quick throws to receivers who can make plays. Have we all noticed that we don’t run goofy bubble screens over and over? Have we even run one?

If Tua had made the TD pass that Mac Jones made, Twitter would’ve blown up with ridicule and mean memes.

The pass from Jones was to a wide open guy standing at the 2 with the coverage LB miles away, and yet the pass was so off that the receiver had to dive back away from the end zone and fall completely down on his belly, then roll like a toddler across the goal line.

  81. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

    btw
is it the best use of Phillips to ask him to line up off the LOS and pick up a back releasing into the flat? at the 2 yard line?

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

It’s not about being the best, it’s about being multiple, so the O doesn’t know who is rushing

The element of surprise causes confusion or straight out missed assignments, like we saw with the Jones sack

  82. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

    about Phillips,
maybe Jason Taylor can tell him what to do when a tackle plays him like Trent Brown did.

    Phillips got stonewalled.

There has to be a way to speed rush those big strong guys.
