It’s hard to talk about must wins at Week 7, but this snakebit 3-3 Dolphins team really needs a W in the worst way. Already tied for last place in our division tied with the 3-3 New England Patriots, as well as looking up at the 4-2 NY Jets and looking way up at the 5-1 Buffalo Bills, the Dolphins can’t afford to fall too far behind here. I consider myself a pretty objective fan, which I also understand is somewhat of an oxymoron. Things really haven’t gone well for us the last 3 games, beginning with Tua being OUT nursing a concussion. The Teddy Bridgewater era lasted only one play against the Jets in a bizarre set of events. Jets DB Sauce Gardner blitzed on the very first play of the game and Teddy looked like he was stuck in quicksand, was very slow to process what he saw and while being taken down, tried to throw in the direction of Durham Smythe, or possible just throw the ball away and was immediately removed from the game and placed under concussion protocol. To my eyes, that hit didn’t look severe enough but the NFL machinations that go on behind the curtain to me suggest this was somehow punishment due to the perception that the Dolphins rushed Tua back to play too early. I mean they change the concussion protocol rule a day or so before this game and immediately slap us with it after it looked like a non violent hit. That forced rookie Skylar Thompson into action in a big division game against a hot team in the NY Jets. As we all know, it didn’t end well.
People can say whatever they want about our QB Tua Tagovailoa, but he’s a winner. This team wins and plays better with Tua at the helm. The downside of Tua is keeping him at the helm. His injury history is growing, and that just gives more fodder for the NFL, or perhaps I should call them neurological experts who think Tua should retire. That’s a fucking 10 on the Silly Scale. I can’t figure out what it is about Tua that invites such vitriol in so many ways. Most fans, including many Dolphins fans (You know who you are!) think Tua doesn’t have an NFL arm. You have fans that just flat out think Tua sucks, and is overrated. Then you have the fans who think the Dolphins mistreated Tua and fear for his welfare. In every scenario, there is just a whole lot of hot air. This kid plays well enough to win the majority of the time, and that’s all you need in the NFL. I am looking forward to having him back this week against the Steelers, and I hope his return is a very long one, not a brief stay.
This past week was the “Fest”. What a great time seeing all my friends again and a pleasure meeting a few new ones. I’d love to get 100% attendance from the blog one year, I’d love to meet a few of you I’ve yet to meet, and love to have a few of you former attendees back again. Great to meet the big ape and his wife, the rolling Boulder from Colorado, great to see Jahndoh again, and always great to see the folks who routinely appear and to those who host a great time for all. Thank you to all of you for coming, despite the loss, it was a fun weekend!
Back to the Miami Dolphins, and back to snakebit. Rookie Skylar Thompson gets his first NFL start, and the Dolphins decided to become one of the least disciplined teams in the NFL and the refs decided they were going to call every single one of them, despite the fact that fouls occur by both teams every single play. What happened to home field advantage? Anyway, there was one drive where it seemed we had to gain 140 yards to finally end up punting. The drive started at our own 18 and there was a 32 yard pass play to WR River Cracraft to the Minnesota 2 yard line that was nullified by a holding call against LG Liam Eichenberg. In all, there were 5 penalties called on one drive. INCONCEIVABLE!!!! We outgained the Vikes 458 – 234. We held the ball for 35:29 compared the Vikes 24:31. Of course, I haven’t mentioned yet that QB Skylar Thompson had to leave the game with a thumb injury early in the 2nd quarter, one drive after the 6 minute drive that netted zero. Did I mention that the Vikes punter boomed one for about 80 yards from the Vikes endzone over Tyreek Hill’s head and gave us field position at our own 20? That punt was blasted, never seen anything like that. Teddy B started slow but eventually got better, but not good enough to get us past the Vikings. Did I mention that it seemed like there were more Vikings fans at the game than Dolphins fans? That can drive ya crazy!!!
So we take on the 2-4 Pittsburgh Steelers who have plenty of problems in their own right. They have a rookie starting QB who has yet to get things going for the Steelers who are averaging less that 17 PPG. The Steelers O-line has been an issue, and QB Mitch Trubisky who started the year was also ineffective, starting the Kenny Pickett era. I doubt the Steelers wanted Pickett starting so soon, but figured why not, because Trubisky clearly wasn’t the answer. The Steelers bring one of the NFL’s best RB’s, beloved here by many of us here, Najee Harris, as well as some nice talent at WR with Diontae Johnson, rookie George Pickens, Chase Claypool and up and coming TE Pat Freiermuth. The Steelers defense hasn’t been the same without pass rusher T.J. Watt, but MFFF still resides in the secondary, and he seems to always be in the right place at the right time, except when he was here in Miami and didn’t want to be. Sometimes, MFFF seems to be the Larry Brown for all of the Neil O’Donnell’s out there, as if he’s the intended target.
Well Dolphins fans, our QB is back. This team needs to ride the enthusiasm of having Tua back in the saddle, and to play more disciplined and penalty free football, and put a lot of points on the board against a team that has struggled to do so and get back in the win column. I know the Steelers fans travel well so expect a similar scenario this weekend where Steelers fans seem either equal or greater than the hometown Miami Dolphins fans. I suppose that’s the issue of playing a in a warm weather destination for all of the USA. Our suspect defense looked a bit better against the Vikes, and now with DB Nik Needham OUT for the season with a an achilles injury, DB Noah Igbinoghene needs to build on his good showing against the Vikes, easily his best game as a pro. Iggy will start at RCB opposite X, as Byron Jones is still on the PUP. Rookie UDFA Kader Kohou will be back in the nickel spot. S Eric Rowe will rotate in at CB as well, and DB Keion Crossen whom injured his knee against the Vikes did not practice Thursday so he looks very questionable if not OUT. Worse still, DE Emmanuel Ogbah did not practice and DL Chrsitian Wilkins was limited. ON the good news front, LT Terron Armstead did log in a limited practice session, he hasn’t practiced all season, so hopefully he’s healthier than he’s been. We need this game, Tua is back, and I hope the Dolphins make the most of that.

GO DOLPHINS!!!

We need a redemption game on Sunday to get back on track
100%
Nice write up, Mike.
It was really great to meet you and the missus. You guys really do a great job of making everyone feel welcome. Salud!
Thanks Kong, it was awesome to meet you and your girl as well. I hope she had fun! Our pleasure, and I’ll speak for myself, Stanger, Ken, Toba and everyone else who helps out that it is truly a pleasure getting all of us together each year.
Our only regret was we didn’t get to stay a little longer…oh, and I also regret confidently boasting I have an arm then throwing that lame duck pass, lol.
I’m still kind of in awe of how hard Son was winging that little football with accuracy in such a tight crowded space.
Ha! That’s funny – Sonny was throwing nice. I didn’t really throw as well as usual on Sunday.
That’s what happens when you get old Mike
Well just yesterday I…OK maybe it wasn’t yesterday, but recently, or this past year, or within the last 5 years. Damn time flies
Steve – That’s partially true – Hurt my back working out in the gym earlier in the week, it was still pretty stiff. I get more of those pesky back injuries as I get older.
I have the same, Dr said, after you have a back injury you get scar tissue, which turns to arthritis as you age
This is from Fansided:
Now, Teddy Bridgewater was placed in concussion protocol after leaving the Jets game in week 5. Yet he didn’t practice in full until the following Friday.
While this non-linear progression through the protocol can torment fans, players’ bodies deal with concussions differently, and the severity of concussions will dictate recovery. Some will inevitably heal faster, while others could take weeks, if not months.
The NFL has a five-phase process to monitor players after concussions before they’re cleared to play.
Players will move through these phases at different rates. Pickett obviously breezed through the protocols, while Teddy Bridgewater took additional time. And given increased attention on the Dolphins organization due to the handling of Tagovailoa, it wouldn’t be surprising if team doctors took a more conservative approach than needed.
Pretty much what I was saying yesterday that demonstrated some symptoms in protocol that made him move slower than Pickett
I’d also bet that the NFL, maybe specifically the NFLPA had more of a watchful eye on the Dolphins due to the optics of what happened with Tua. You can’t deny that’s possible.
I actually don’t think because if the single one team for differential treatment that opens up a host of problems for the league. Don’t forget the pace at which a player goes through the protocol is determined by the team physician and not the league

Ken – So you don’t believe the NFL/NFLPA was overcautious pulling Teddy B after the hit in the Jets game?
Based on the video evidence it did not look bad but I don’t know what the actual physical exam revealed
We’ll never know that info, but my immediate reaction, and still at this time was they made an example of us at our expense for the perceived mishandling of Tua, which I think is garbage.

Coach on limiting/reducing penalties: I make sure to coach each penalty independently and give each guy recourse on how they could’ve avoided it. In general, you have to rip the band aid off and show the team the consequence of said results.

Mike E ,
Great write as usual.. We had a blast during the fest and I’m going to use your phrase “ Fucking 10 on the silly scale” for the rest of my life. Thanks for having all of us over Friday night and sorry I couldn’t do Phindog jams due to my shoulder. The biggest treat we got was hanging out with Stanger. Was a great time and was so happy to meet Capt Stubbs , Kong and his wife,Boulder and Jhan. Can’t wait for the next Fest !! 🐕
Thanks Doggy! Love hanging with the Doggy fam, you guys rock! Next year you’ll be back to jammin’, no worries.
The Doggies are the fantastical best! Hard core of the Fest. I’m sorry diner on Monday didn’t work out. But like I told you I’m just a towed boat on such. But M. A. was really feeling sick. Canceled both with you guys and her cousin.

Funny how no one is crying that these guys are coming back to play so quickly, yet so many are all over the Dolphins for “rushing” Tua back 3 weeks later! 🤯
complete bullshit!
You CANNOT breeze through the protocols. They are a ONE STEP AT A TIME PROCESS. You cannot combine two steps, therefor they COULD NOT POSSIBLELY WITHOUT CHEATING practiced them full on Wednesday.
THE NFL PA NEEDS TO INVESTIGATE THIS IMMEDIATELY AND THE NFL SHOULD FINE THE STEELERS A DRAFT PICK!
https://phinphanatic.com/2022/10/20/tua-tagovailao-will-super-sized-target-back-year/
This is my biggest concern for the next few games. If Tua even hints at being wobbly, the spotter will get him out of the game in an instant. Guarantee Pitt comes after him hard and early in the game. Even if Tua is making them pay with big plays, they’ll attack hard to get some hits and see if they can get him removed.
While their QB who was concussed 4 days ago will get a free pass.
Yep
It’s different rules for the Dolphins right now

Coach Mike McDaniel said after the game Bridgewater doesn’t have any concussion symptoms and passed tests, but a spotter saw Bridgewater stumble after the play. So he was removed — a result of the revised protocols put in place as a result of Tagovailoa’s injuries.Oct 10, 2022
You start Firemane yet?
No, I’m still reading Darkness at Sethanon
Joe Schad reports that, via the CBS telecast of the game, Bridgewater passed concussion protocol but was kept out in an abundance of caution.
Yet as we ALL could see there was no ataxia, no stumble and no reason to keep him out.
The concussion tests that were performed in the locker room were NEGATIVE. He was ONLY kept out because of the fake spotter.
That was definitely horseshit. Maybe when Ross sells the team and we have a new owner we’ll be able to get the albatross off our neck!

Bridgewater passing protocols doesn’t mean he passed all 5 steps there after. That was just game day protocol. The team never said Bridgewater didn’t have a concussion
YES THEY DID. THEY SAID THAT DAY HE HAD PASSED PROTOCOL (DID NOT HAVE A CONCUSSION)
Passing protocol is different than not having a concussion
Who cares whether he’s here for revenge or not? Is he playing? No!!
He’s a LB coach, not even the DC. Maybe he’ll make mean faces at our players and coaches. lol
Is this moving gingerly?
Lol
Piggy you better pick you up some of these!
Jim Irsay coming out on record saying Dan Snyder should be forced to sell is fucking rich sauce man! Did you guys see that!? LOL
I haven’t fact checked this, but wow if true.
It would be nice to see our defense start getting some turnovers.
4 TOs and only 1 INT through 6 weeks is pathetic.
Let’s get 2 INTs and a fumble recovery this Sunday against 0 giveaways.

Passing protocol is different than not having a concussion
You are wrong about this.
When they bring the guy into the lockeroom, there is a certain “protocol” they go through. (A concussion test) it consists of testing for light sensitivity, motor coordination, verbal mental acuity tests (what day is it? do you know where you are?, etc) cognitive testing, etc)
Coach McDaniel said in the post game press conference that Teddy passed ALL the tests and WAS NOT concussed and the ONLY reason he was not able to return to the game and the ONLY reason he had to go into the extended testing protocol was because of the RULE CHANGE that said if ataxia was seen by the “spotter” Per the NEW rules that is enough to put you into the management protocol (continued 5 step process)
That blog writer you sited above is wrong also. It IS a linear process. They cannot skip steps and each step takes a certain amount of time. I posted it above somewhere. You cannot clear two steps at once. The ONLY way that the Steelers could have practiced the three concussed players FULLY on Wed as reported would be to bypass or combine one or more of the 5 steps.

Kong – lack o’ sacks really kills me too. Melvin Ingram and S Brandon Jones both with 2 each. Phillips 1.5, Elandon Roberts 1.5 and Holland 1.5 Ogbah 1, Wilkins 0. Front 7 are struggling badly when 2 safeties have more sacks than our DE’s or LB’s.
Didn’t Davis get one against the Vikes?
Yes, Davis definitely got a sack
Kong – If that’s true, we’re due for a win this Sunday Night!
Definitely due!
Nice write, Mike! I also felt we had a 140 yard drive. Regardless of the penalty we kept gaining the yardage back only to get penalized again. I can’t remember ever seeing anything like that before.
We need this win to get back on track.
Thanks Tim – That was one of the craziest drives I’ve ever seen. That punt by the Vikes was also insane. It looked like it traveled over 80 yards
Naples,
If you’re out there, I think I now understand what you were doing in terms of numbers with names/letters: Gematria, right?
I find it interesting, yet I’m not sure I’m sold on the methodology based solely on a given name and its random spelling. However, I DO think Peter was trying to tell us something in his time when he wrote the Book of Revelation.
In other words, I think Gematria is the key to his puzzle of “666” in HIS age and time… not so much to the present day.
You’ve got me interested though, man! Get back to me on this if you’d be so kind, and thanks!
Oh, and don’t get me wrong… what Peter was inferring (666) should have a direct correlation to what is to come to pass: it’s not for nothing.
My bloody bad: PAUL, not Peter!
Uhhhh, Ringo maybe?

From the link you posted. You can clear protocol and still be concussed:
The athlete may have a concussion despite being able to complete the NFL Locker Room Comprehensive Concussion Assessment “within normal limits” compared to baseline, due to the potential limitations of the Assessment. Such limitations underscore the importance of knowing the athlete and the subtle deficits in their personality and behaviors that can occur with concussive injury.

Also from the link you posted:
Each player and each concussion is unique. Therefore, there is no set timeframe for return to participation or for the progression through the steps of the graduated exertion program set forth below. Recovery time will vary from player to player.
Yes it may take longer than the minimum. The minimum is five distinct steps which takes more than three days. End of story
Each step is not necessarily a day
No where in there does it say each step is a day
It’s Friday!
M13, DAX dropped a new one today. It’s similar to “Dear Alcohol” he dropped months ago. He is still independent, I believe.

WONDERFUL! Didn’t realize Dax could sing (with a very light assist via auto-tune) like that. The music was beautiful, the message was great, and overall just a great song. Thanks for sharing, my man!
Ken, that is what I got from looking at it also.
I just find it interesting that all 3 concussed players made it through all the protocol in 2 days to practice in full and all 3 are good to go for the game.
The knew session at practice. “If you get hit hard, do this, and slowly count to ten…. never ever stumble.”

4 DBs ahead of him are out. Thats a lot to happen for him to even have this chance, but a 6th or 7th chance he does have.
I sure hope Iggy can capitalize on this now rare opportunity. It’s now or never for him in Miami at this point.
BB Mike,
I think you’ll like this one: Hopsin. He sings his own chorus just as Dax does. Very similar feel to “Depression” as ya posted above. This guy is most gifted…
BB Mike,
My absolute favorite by Hopsin: Nocturnal Rainbows…
The color commentator for the Vikings game I forgot who it was, was talking about how Iggy’s coverage is really good, he’s right there with his man but he has to play the ball right here. We’ve seen that as his problem since we drafted him. He actually made a few plays where he did exactly what the commentator was saying and he had the best game of his career. It’s about reading the receiver’s body language of when the ball should be arriving. That’s when the good corners become the receiver. X has that ability.
The craziest part of that is he is a converted WR. You would think his ball skills would be the most developed
It’s about him getting his head turned around because he runs with the receiver and only watches his man instead of expecting the ball. That’s when he needs to read the body language of the receiver as a corner because he’s not the receiver until the end of the play.
Sam Madison and Pat Surtain were really good at doing that. They tracked their man and knew when to turn around and play the ball. The receiver’s body language told them where the ball was, inside or out, or right on them.
This site is funny, I literally have to type “not spam” for shit to post
NOT SPAM
M13, yeah like those. They are from around the same timeframe he put out “Ill Mind of Hopsin 5”, I believe. I like some of his newer stuff also like “Be11a Ciao”.
Great song
Tyreek Hill is the FIRST player in NFL history with 3 games of 10 Rec and 150 Rec yards through the 1st 6 games of a season.
So much for he won’t get the ball in Miami like he did with Mahomes in KC. 🙂
The Steelers are giving up yards both passing and rushing. We need to at least try to establish the run early and mix in quick passes to get things going. Our running game has been so up and down. We get nothing and then it looks pretty good. This would be the perfect time for a lot of reasons to go out and play a really good game and get the victory. 4-3, 2-1 in the division and 4-2 in the conference is a solid standing.
Wow it’s very quiet here tonight. I really like this type of mentality.
Wes Welker says Cedrick Wilson is making strides and he sees him getting more touches in the future. Also notes Ced is learning a new system. The guy who gives a best chance to win is going to be out there.
Everyone has a bad day at the office. How can you get better? What can you do to make sure we don’t have that feeling again? He’s a tough kid. He battles. He plays hurt. He’s a big part of our offense. – Wes Welker, asked about Jaylen Waddle
Wes Welker is so good at explaining things like why he wishes they played as much zone in the NFL as they do now. Also about how Miami receivers can maximize yards after catch by running through the ball with strong feet and hands as opposed to jumping unnecessarily.
I see Wilson and Sherfield blocking on every play
Cracraft too and he’s won a spot on the team. We all know Hill and Waddle will be on the field much of the time. There are only so many snaps for guys based on game situations. That’s why Ezukema isn’t playing. He’s learning and being coached up for when he’s needed.
This offense is still very new. That’s why we need to hang in there with all the crazy situations and injuries. Weather the storm as they say. We need this win against the Steelers. The dynamic of our season changes drastically with a loss here at home. Can’t lose two in row at home with 3-4 and 3-3 in the conference. It’s an up hill battle the rest of the way. The next 2 games are at Lions and Bears and getting wins there are important, but it doesn’t help our AFC standing other than total wins. We know how it comes down to conference tie-breakers.
Then the schedule is going to be a tough finish.
And the last three weeks amounted to big stall in progress with all of the injuries and the QB salad. I’d like to see Tua pick up right where he left off.
Son, this a must win game at home. Can’t lose two at home and 4 overall in a row. This is a big game for us week 7. I’m more confident with Tua.
Csonka will be there with the boys you can’t lose this game. Incidentally it was the Steelers who we beat to get to the Super Bowl. They got to that game vs the undefeated Dolphins because of the immaculate reception against the Raidahs.
We couldn’t beat the Raiders back then, would ’72 have been different without the Immaculate Reception
That was 74 and the motherf***ing Sea of Hands heartbreaker.
I was agreeing with you btw thinking that sea of hands could have happened in 72 instead omg
I’m thinking Waddle wants to make up for last week. Hill is a monster. Some other guys chip in and we need to see the progress we showed on defense against the Vikes, despite the secondary situation. We need a team win and I’m looking for Tua to lead the way.

From the link you posted:
Depending on the severity of the concussion and the time required for return to baseline, the progression through the steps may be accelerated
No where does it say how many days it must take
I’m not gonna continue this argument with you. But steps to three and four would take more than two days of practice as they are written. And then step five would be another day.
That does not account for the period of rest required in step one. Do you think it’s reasonable for him to rest a couple hours???? Most likely would be at least a day right??
**as team activity only happen once per day.
But it can be accelerated. The protocol allows for it. There is no conspiracy. There is no disparate treatment. Picket’s concussion was not as serious as Tua’s plain and simple
Dolphins DB coach Sam Madison said Noah Igbinoghene is getting better. He’s still learning the position and Sam is trying to give him the tools to get his head around and make plays. Noah has to attack the football.
Didn’t want to mention it yesterday because I didn’t want y’all to think I was crazy. I saw a strange line of lights way up in the sky Thursday night all traveling in the same direction. It freaked me out. I actually showed my wife then woke my neighbor who was a retired pilot. He was amazed as well. We thought, if it was just one, it would definitely be a satellite but there were a bunch of them in line. We didn’t know what it was.
After watching the local news last night, many people actually reported it to the local news. Turns out it was satellites after all. It was a train of Elon Musk’s Starlink satellites. Apparently, that is how they travel around the world in like a train.
The news actually gave a link where you can track them to see when they will come through your night sky, but don’t remember what it was.
BBM i saw the same thing last time they launched and was awed and intrigued by what it was, and was confirmed the next day … was the same night as the lunar eclipse … it looked pretty cool ..
A new batch went up on Thursday maybe that was them
Ok, bored this morning.
22. Emmanuel Forbes CB Mississippi State
51. Darnell Wright OT Tennessee
79. Jaheim Bell TE South Carolina
83. Jack Campbell LB Iowa
151. Brenton Cox Jr. EDGE Florida
165. Deuce Vaughn RB Kansas State
215. Jammie Robinson S Florida State
– Since Kelee Ringo will be out of reach. Forbes will be my #1 CB target. He had his second pick 6 this season last weekend going 59 yards. Has 4 INT’s on the season so far. Looking forward to seeing him vs Alabama today.
– Watching the TN upset over Alabama last weekend. OT Wright was a stud.
– I think we need to let Gesicki walk. Jaheim Bell is not as big but gives much added explosiveness and versatility. He is a much better block also.
– Deuce Vaughn is a small but explosive RB. Great receiver.
CB and OT make sense, even if might mean Jackson not a long term plan. But overall this team is pretty deep.
Anyone notice that both Hill and Waddle are not on the field together a lot of the time?
They each go out, but seems only for a play or two. And they tend to rest one or the other on 2nd down a lot, as if saving to have both on 3rd down. Might be a smarter way to rest them than for a full series at a time.
I’m not sure if it makes a difference if Flores knows Tua’s tendencies. It’s a different scheme, for sure….
“We heard he was voted a captain, but he passed on the honor due to the lingering question about whether the Dolphins would trade for Watson.” — That’s one I hadn’t heard before, but it is from Florio. “We heard” can mean from the cab driver on his way back from dinner.

Nice! Phindog must have been wore out when he got to the game. lol
Stanger – That was pretty damn cool, just like the Doggies are cool!
Stanger, this next draft is not deep in elite OT’s. There are a good number of really good ones who be available in the second round. I would rather go after a top CB prospect.
Armstead is great and glad we got him but don’t think he will ever play a full season for us. We need a good OT to groom for the future.
I almost drafted an OC over the LB so we could move Williams back to LG.
I agree CB will be on our radar early in the draft especially the way we play defense. We’re starting to age and we have a couple of season ending injuries. Need to add some young talent.
Bills are projected to be 7.5 million over the cap next year.
Bills ILB Tremaine Edmonds, 6’5 250 is a free agent next season.
Should we try to take him away from them? He will cost a little.
Bills starting Center Mitch Morse will also be a F/A next year.
You’re likely getting bad info from a U75
Cap is supposed to skyrocket next year
Wasn’t looking at Bills specifically. I was looking at ILB and OC. ILB to upgrade. OC so we could possibly move Williams back to LG. Williams is playing well though.
Those 2 names just jumped out at me off the bat.
We had a discussion here a while ago about ball size NCAAF vs NFL
Was watching the end of the Herd’s game and noticed how skinny the ball looked
In overall circumference, college footballs can be up to 1-1/4 inches smaller than NFL footballs.
Crazy cause they look shorter and fatter.
I always thought that too.
Steve, Spotrac is estimating at 218 mil. I thought it was going to be more as well.
If it is higher, the Bears will be able to buy a whole new team. Their cap space for 2023 based at a 218mil cap is 106 million in cap space. lol
Means they don’t have many players under contract, can be good, if you lack talent and bad, if you have talent and min bad contracts
Byron Jones’ 2023 cap hit is 18.8 million if we don’t exercise the out clause.
Even if he comes back and plays well this season, I don’t think he is worth 18.8 in 2023 and 2024.
Probably not. I’ve also been impressed how we have found solid corners that are not highly touted. We seem to have a pretty god eye for guys who fit how we play. But we do need to add some premium young talent in the offseason.
We need Jones, if we want to blitz and play cover-0
We don’t what he is at this time though. His injury is prolonging more than what was expected.
Today marks the first time I’ve seen Michael Mayer, TE, Notre Dame, mocked to us (R1P19, if the season ended today). Rationale: we’re not likely to retain Mike Gesicki beyond this season, and Mayer is the best TE in the ’23 Draft.
I’ve yet to watch Notre Dame this season: BB Mike, can he block?
I see Mayer had 6 receptions today for 115 yards and 1 TD.
PSU looking like crud so far vs Minnesota. SMH
Brian, if you’re out there, it would suck if Minnesota beat us two weeks in a row (Vikings last week, and the Golden Gophers this week). 😦

We are not in the market for a WR, but Tennessee’s Jalin Hyatt seems to be the real deal. He’s 6′ with 4.31 speed. Has 444 yards receiving with 9 TD’s in last 3 games with 207 and 5 TD’s coming last week vs Alabama. Through 7 games he has 769 yards on 40 receptions and 12 TD’s.
M13, Michael Mayer is a beast at 6’4 265. He is not fast, but he is a smart route runner. Probably will run in the 4.7’s at the combine.
My question will be his quickness in our offense. Our TE’s seem to line up and pull to the other side a good bit. Not sure if he has the quickness to do that, to get to his block in time. I think that is what Long is struggling with. Getting to his block.
Thanks for your input, man.
To answer your question, yes, he is a very good blocking TE. Just all round good. Does he have the quickness we need. I don’t know.

And just like that, PSU is starting to look good!
I will be interested to see that freshman QB they have now starting next year. He looks like he could become special.
Yessir, and I hope he doesn’t become the next Christian Hackenberg.

Perhaps the first Tennessee WR with legit hype since Cordarrelle Patterson and Justin Hunter.
Yes… Hyatt is KILLING IT!
I don’t see TE as a 1st round pick for us.
I agree, Tim. IMO, that would be a luxury pick to make. O-Line and CB for me at this very early stage.
Agreed on CB and OL if the value matches the pick. Even 2nd round.
Me neither. CB is the choice for me.
Well as PSU goes, what about Joey Porter Jr?
M13, responded above to you 8:56 post. Re: PSU freshman QB.
NM, I saw you responded and LOL.
😀
CB man coverage is a must in our defense. Scout those types of corners.
ABSOLUTELY agreed.
Joey Porter Jr is 6’2″, 210 pounds, and like his father… PHYSICAL.
I don’t think the bigger corner is always the way to go. You don’t want to be too small but you have to be physical and quick. You have to find dogz!
Damn right about that! I’ll do my digging for that DAWG at the end of the season… and I will NOT let y’all down!
I knew the spelling of dogz as opposed to dawgs didn’t look right. LOL
LOL, it’s all good!

M13, did you see my mock earlier?
Specifically, South Carolina TE Jaheim Bell. He’s 6’3 235 with 4.54 speed and has a good second gear. Goes into beast mode after the catch. He is also a good blocking TE and has the versatility to line up everywhere.
He’s been playing dinged up all year this season so his #’s are down.
I’ll check that mofo out, for sure!
It sounds like Armstead will be in the lineup along with Tua tomorrow night. Let’s go! Fins up!

Well as PSU goes, what about Joey Porter Jr?
—————–
Yes, if we were to wait until the 2nd round for a CB, he would be a perfect pick there. He’s not a ball hawk but think he would fit in our defense as a boundary.
Yup, and I agree with Tim above: I think we can do better than Porter Jr in the 1st round. I want a fleet-footed, man-to-man BALLHAWK!!!
But if Jr falls to the 2nd round and we nab him, I’d say none too shabby. Of course, that would mean we likely nabbed a player of need (BPA) in the 1st round.
M13, do you remember former PSU’er TE Zack Kuntz? He transferred to ODU. He’s 6’8 245 and a decent blocker. Of course, that is playing at a lower level of talent.
Honestly, I do not. Yes, a lower level of talent is right, and to bend down that far at 6’8″ to block? Not ideal, Bro!
Reminds me of Joey Hanos when he was with us Phins. 6’7″-8″, HUGE redzone target, but he could never get his pad-level low enough to be an effective blocker at the NFL level.
By the way, Ocala Howie and I both LOVED Joey Haynos! He just couldn’t block.
Wow, great catch!
Alvin Kamara is going to have his day of reckoning yet…
Just a reminder, we have 11 games to play in the RS not counting playoffs before we start looking at next year. 😉
Mf13,
Not sure what you predicted I think

Damn it sorry for the double post.
You’re good, man!
Mf13,
Not sure what you predicted I think

We’re still VERY close in our score predictions, Boulder! 🙂
The best blocking TE (IMO) who is draft eligible but don’t know if he will enter is junior Georgia TE Darnell Washington, 6’7 265.
I will NEVER doubt your eyes, my guy (you’ve EARNED that!)… and you’re probably 100% correct!
However, I just can’t see a TE so tall trumping prototypical NFL standards: it’s a matter of leverage in the trenches as it pertains to blocking at the NFL level.
If I’m the GM of an NFL team, I’m strongly listening to what YOU have to say, Bro!

You know me man. Always looking. At least it is something “football” to talk about other than concussion protocol arguments and Howie’s list updates. lol
It’s all good just saying we have a lot of football to play. Tua is back. 🙂
Yes sir!
FYI, I like to see the updates and what people think.
Check this out. Here’s 6’8″, 365-pound Jordan Mailata going against the (relatively diminutive) 6’3″, 245-pound Micah Parsons. Leverage is everything at the next level.
Seriously, Gesicki would become minced meat vs Parsons if asked to block him.
Case in point: LEVERAGE. JMO, but I wouldn’t look at any TE over 6’5″, unless he can leap like Gesicki. Sure as hell seems as though Mike McDaniel has a blueprint for his TEs: block first (leverage).
Would love to start seeing that from Philllips. Beginning to see some glimpses.
I thought Phillips was going to make the jump this year. So far, not so much. But yes… some glimpses indeed.
I’m gonna do another mock draft with 6 trade downs tomorrow. Accumulate about 12 picks then post highlight videos on all of them complete with stat lines and 40 times just for you, Tim. lol 😉
LMAO!!!
😆
DO IT!!! *in my Darth Sidious voice*
😆
PSU NEEDED this win!!! Good to go!
Next week vs Ohio State? *GULP*
Gotta bail. Peace to y’all!

Though I was not high on him and thought he would be cut, I think our offense misses Cethan Carter when Smythe is out.
IT’S GAME DAY BITCHES!!!
GO DOLPHINS!!
I know it’s NFL Sunday!
But if you lie good pitching? Some good ones on the mound today!
SD Padres , Yu Darvish

PHI Phillies, Zack Wheeler
HOU Astros ,Lance McCullers
🆚
NY Yankees ,Nestor Cortes
Baseball is boring
These games should be.
Unless you like great pitching!
I like great pitching but have not followed much this season (Reds/Cubs sucked).
I was a huge Greg Maddox fan. He was a surgeon.
Game day!!!!!!
Was a pretty good sports day yesterday!
THREE THINGS THAT ARE SURE ABOUT LIFE:
1) Taxes
2) Death
3) Fest attendees will have a superb time at Young Stanger’s Festival For Dolphin Fans!! Congrats to Young Stanger for all you’ve done!!
Me and, perhaps, Mrs. OD would love to attend the next one. But upcoming surgeries make that unlikely.
—————————–
Has the Miami FO done ANYTHING SUBSTANTIVE SINCE OUR LAST GAME to improve our offensive line?? If so, I have yet to read about it.
BOTTOM LINE: WE NEED to NOT have our QB return to the concussion protocols during or after this game. And the Stealers certainly know this. So the battle will be won or lost by Miami’s ability to give Tua enough time to throw the ball and to avoid the coming pass rush.
—————————–
DESPITE MY CONSTANT CRITICISMS of the now-banished Steve Ross, I am still an optimist at heart. I STILL BELIEVE MIAMI WILL WIN ANOTHER SUPER BOWL IN MY LIFETIME!! But for that to happen, the Fins HAVE TO PROTECT TUA!!
TONITE, I THINK THEY WILL!!
HOWIE’S POLL;
23-13 Mia GO FINS!!
Ross came back on Tuesday, he’ll be there tonight
Wasn’t the same without you OD.
Is everyone excited to play the waiting game while we wait for Sunday Bight Football?
It’s killing me to think about doing my laundry that late in the day.
