I’d rather we trade for a corner or pass rusher.
    ————-
Why not get the best of BOTH worlds? Roquan has the speed, range, and hands of corner… plus he’s one of the better pass-rushers in the league and leads the NFL in tackles… for the mere price of a 2nd and a 4th-rounder (keeping in mind he was a top-10 pick).

I’m just sayin’, I’d have made that trade being it was highway robbery… and to reiterate, we’re going to clear so much cap next season that a new contract for Roquan wouldn’t be an issue.

It’s not sour grapes to me at all, just surprised we didn’t jump at it… especially being there are “reports” out there saying we may trade a 1st rounder for Chubb (do NOT do it!!!).

      • Ken's avatar Ken says:

We don’t trade for someone because of fear someone else will trade for him. You trade for someone if it fits a need. Right now LB is not a pressing need. We need a DE and a CB

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

We’re patiently awaiting Trey Flowers to get it going and the return of Byron Jones. And hopefully, Melvin Ingram returns to what he was in our first 3 games.

I don’t think we need to over-extend in a trade for another DE or CB.

  30. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Tua went 7-1 last year down the stretch when we won 8 of 9. We’re 5-1 with him this year. That’s 12-2 in the last 14 games and he’s 18-9 overall.

He’s a blitzer, not a pure pass rusher. He’s a box LB not an edge guy. I don’t think we need that. We could use another edge guy. Remember Trey Flowers has been out and he plays up and down the DL.
    ———–
Quite correct, but with coverage abilities, he’d be NICE as 3-down LB. Anyway, that ship has sailed… again, it’s not sour grapes to me.

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

BIG UP to Brandon Jones, but it’s not a very good sign for one’s Defense when your leading tackler is a Safety.

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

That generally means that the LBs aren’t making the tackles or there isn’t enough pressure from the front 4.

      • son of a son of a shula's avatar son of a son of a shula says:

He played more like a linebacker really, he made a lot of plays close to the line of scrimmage plus he’s probably the best blitzing Safety in the league. I didn’t mind him leading us in tackles.

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Allow me to make a correction… there isn’t enough pressure from the DF7.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

M13, that’s why we need more up front pressure not sideline to sideline LBs.

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

        Uhmmm… I mean, you’re not wrong, nor do I think I am… we’re splitting hairs, I think.

I mean, I feel we could do much better tackling at the LB position (and in coverage), but you’re most correct that we need more pressure up front.

I think we have two different ways of solving the problem, neither of which is necessarily wrong.

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

And I DID say DF7 to include a pass-rush from LBs (Roquan!). 😉

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

    ————–
Oh, don’t take me the wrong way. Brandon Jones ROCKS!!! It was great to have him playing in the box while having Jevon Holland patrolling centerfield.

But as we saw last game, Holland got picked on BIG TIME playing in the box as his former Oregon teammate VM3 was playing centerfield.

It bloody SUCKS that Brandon Jones is lost for the season: he led all NFL CBs in pressures and sacks last season.

Without doubt (for me) Tua’s best game as a pro. One of the aspects of this team I absolutely love is we are virtually never out of a game with Tua and the speed we have to attack with.

I started the season in prove it mode (even after we acquired Hill) and still am. Our D is stellar and shut down at its best (which includes starting XI availability) but we have all seen some major buckles from it when under extreme pressure previously. I don’t see that changing.

MM is a run first coach. He isn’t anywhere near doing that currently. It’s early – half a season in – and he has to work with the OL he was given, but I suspect this O is a long way from a cold weather O and longer term, this could be our Achilles heel come January.

Anyway, we’re at 5-3, we are starting to build a team identity and I can’t see any team looking at a Fins fixture and thinking it will be a walk in the park. There’s still improvements to be made in many areas, but for me at least, it’s fun to watch us play again. No way I would have stayed up ’til 4:30am to watch us play live last year. This year I wasn’t even tired at the end of the Steelers game. Are we perfect – hell no. Are we playing loose, for each other, for the coach and for the W each week. Hell yeah. I’ll take that and anything else that comes along, as we hopefully continue to prove doubters wrong and progress.
