Tim – the defense looked awful today. The Bears aren’t a juggernaut on offense but we made them look like one. We were supposed to get better on defense, maybe look like a playoff caliber defense, we looked anything but.

I agree. When did I say our defense looked good?

You just said we shouldn’t be calling for heads. This defense is so bad with lots of talent. Maybe the guy responsible for that has to do a better job

Is THIS a sign of better things to come?–I certainly hope so!!

  18. Rhino's avatar Rhino says:

Miami can clinch the division by winning out. Easier said than done but Bills getting a 2nd division loss is huge.

  19. Rhino's avatar Rhino says:

Jeff Wilson had a really solid day for only having a couple days to prep. 3 receptions plus he’s hard to bring down on run plays … a definite upgrade over Edmonds.

… but omg Fields running the ball … it’s exciting for Bears fans until he gets concussed.

  20. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

Me after talking up how great Tua is on 3rd down for 3 quarters and seeing him miss Smythe on the 4th

  21. randydolfan1947's avatar randydolfan1947 says:

ALL RIGHT, Piggy, lets see your face after the clock ran out on Da’ Bears and “The Jills!”

  22. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Fields ran for 81 against the Patriots and 60 against the Cowboys. We had no answer, there was never a player getting penetration that made a tackle or never a player home if he switched directions. Our pass rush was still toothless as well. I have serious concerns going forward. The offense is amazing, although I do question whether we can win a poor weather game the way our offense operates.

    • New Age's avatar New Age says:

I’m worried as well. Our defense has a lot of money and talent tied into it. It looks horrible though. Something must be done if we expect to win a playoff game. Hell, we may not even get in with how they are playing. No reason to get lucky against the Bears. It should have been an easy win.

  23. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

The Pats walked off with wins like this for 20 years. I don’t care. πŸ™‚

  24. ukfinfan's avatar ukfinfan says:

I think we will see either a reaction from the D soon or a new play caller. I’m not advocating this necessarily, but we all saw MM’s reaction to the pens last week.

From his perspective, it’s his first HC gig, he’s got a dream job with loads of power and backing from the owner and CG giving him some pretty tasty ingredients. We have talent on both sides of the ball but we are way underperforming on one side.

Something has to give and I don’t see MM tolerating this too much longer if we keep playing D like we are right now

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

As cool and quirky as Mike McDaniel is, when it comes to execution or the lack there of, I think he’s a guy who won’t tolerate bad play. Edmonds being traded was a sign of that.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Either do I, and nor should he tolerate that. Chris Grier just handed Boyer a new toy and DC would love to have. Justin Fields ran for 178 and 1 TD and threw for 3 more TD’s. It’s not crazy to think he’d have another TD if the officials made the right call and flagged us for PI on that last drive. We got lucky to escape CHI with the win, but there’s something wrong here for sure. The defense can’t play like this and expect to move on in a playoff game. This D won’t cut it, so something has to change

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

We also had some bad calls against us. That’s the way the NFL is. How many times did umpires get safe or out wrong this year with the Mets. We challenged and won like 30+ of them. This is 2022 sports. Officials can change games.

  25. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

    Mia culpa
    Tua winna
6-0 when he walks off the field in a game this year.

  26. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

I am going to have a great time explaining to my Jet’s fan friend how them beating the Bills actually dropped them behind us in the standings when we won today. LOL

  27. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

we are 7th in the league in points with Tua missing tua games.

  28. New Age's avatar New Age says:

I’m glad others are seeing this. Boyer has to go. Terrible DC. Probably can say the same for all the D coaches. Our defense doesn’t play down, it’s just not very good. We can’t stop the bad teams with bad offenses. We won’t stop Burrow, Mahomes, or Allen. Our defense is terrible.

Our offense worries me too. They look amazing early but peter out in the 4th. We’ve been shut out in 6 of our 9 4th quarters. We have a total of 7 points in 7 of the 9 games in the 4th. You have to be able to score in the 4th quarter and we aren’t. Being held scoreless in 67% of your 4th quarters isn’t an aberration, it’s a trend. Good teams must be able to score….and they sure as hell don’t barely beat the Bears and Lions. Bad team, great offense early.

I have to change my opinion from earlier in the week. I don’t think we are a contender because we aren’t a solid playoff caliber team. We are like the 2008 Sparano Dolphins. We may get in, but too many issues for us to win anything. Bengals and Patriots clobbered their terrible opponents today. That’s what good teams do.

  29. ukfinfan's avatar ukfinfan says:

Bottom line. Fins win, Bills lose = happy camper. Right now that’s really all that matters. Enjoy being at 6-3 and let the team fix what they can in the week. Although you’d be forgiven in thinking they have 3 weeks with the Brown’s and a bye coming. That bye may also be an opportunity to make changes if the gauntlet is thrown and not picked up.

  30. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

    The Browns are up next.
I don’t think brisket can run for 150+ yards, so there’s that …

  32. manitobafinfan's avatar manitobafinfan says:

We definitely can play better , and I expect we will … penalties were sort of cleaned up , so there is hope the D will be as well

  33. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Isn’t it fun to be complaining when we win 3 in a row and we’re 6-3 and in the playoff mix? πŸ˜‰

  34. Wyoming85's avatar Wyoming85 says:

Let’s see if Chase Elliot can put a cherry on my weekend!!!!

  35. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Tim – My point was a bad call saved us from an embarrassing day on defense being even more embarrassing. It’s not like Fields has been lighting up the scoreboard passing, he had 7 TD’s and 6 INT’s before this game. I know they added Claypool but he was on a snap count due to arriving this week. Their defense after subtracting two huge defenders played on par with ours, after we added one of the best OLB’s in the game. Just calling as it I see it. Our effort was shameful against a poor team. Boyer has some splaining to do

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Our defense was awful today. Our back end misses tackle after tackle. We’re playing backups in the secondary. That’s why talent matters. It’s not about Boyer, it’s a lesser level of talent than we started with. Gotta fight through it.

    • New Age's avatar New Age says:

I really thought we were going to lose. Without the refs, we probably would have…against the Bears. We have every right to be upset and questioning. Team doesn’t know how to finish games.

  36. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Fields is now on notice for the rest of their opponents. He’s an okay passer but a great runner. Give him props.

  37. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

New Age – I hear ya man. I think we feel the same way on this one. I suppose we might give Boyer another week to gameplan with Chubb, but our front 3 of Ogbah, Davis and Wilkins were taken out of action today. I also Phillips and Chubb running around after people, but not getting penetration and making plays in the backfield. This is not sustainable, no matter how good our offense is.

    • New Age's avatar New Age says:

Our offense is having issues too. We aren’t even in the game in the 4th so if we can’t get this defense fixed, we will start losing these close 4th quarter games. The Jets are real, the Pats dominated this week, and the Bills are still the cream of the AFC. We have a couple easier games to get this fixed before the season starts to unravel. We shouldn’t need the refs and 35 points to beat the Bears. We shouldn’t need to get lucky during the easy part of the schedule. Good teams knock out bad opponents before the 12th round.

  38. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

By the time we play Fields in Chicago again,
he’ll be all beat up and 2 steps slower like Cam Newton got to be.

    Yes we have flaws
    We aren’t perfect

    No team is perfect though

Take it easy guys – enjoy these wins

    • New Age's avatar New Age says:

It’s not true though. The Patriots would blow out at least 3-4 teams even in their worse seasons. They blew out about half their opponents in the 2007 and 2011 seasons. They didn’t just sit there, and hope Fields wouldn’t run another TD in with a few minutes left. Good teams take care of bisiness.

  43. manitobafinfan's avatar manitobafinfan says:

Kyler Murray stirring up shit again

  44. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

New Age – I’m not especially concerned about our offense. I think with Jeff Wilson we’ll be running the ball more effectively going forward with Wilson and Mostert sharing touches. Right now our defense is the weak link and the offense is our strength. Maybe Austin Jackson getting healthy will the O-line some too, although that remains to be seen.

    • New Age's avatar New Age says:

I’m not concerned until the 4th quarter. We haven’t scored a point in 6 of our games this year in the 4th. That’s not good especially with a terrible defense. You don’t win shootouts with the Bills and Chiefs by stopping your game after 45 minutes are up. They have 60 to go not 45.

  45. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

We escaped with the win. Our offense is legit. Our defense is crap. Our special teams still suck, but at least we picked up a positive play with the block.

Another effing missed fg. I’m over Sanders, he has been crap for 3 of the last 4 years. That was a huge missed fg that directly contributed to a 4 point difference because the Bears don’t go for 2 later on if they were down 14 instead of 11.

Our offense is awesome. I saw a bunch of people saying ‘slow down, it was the Lions’ last week. Well, the Bears are a top 10 pass defense and we shredded them at will. Tua missed on a couple of passes in the 4th that he normally hits on, but thankfully the defense decided to finally show up at that time.

McDaniel needs to stop wasting time at the end of halves and timeouts every single game. He’s done it more than a few times and it’s worked out a few times, but it nearly cost us today.

I’d also like to see McDaniel tighten it up in crunch time with the play calling. I get conventional wisdom says to run it and run clock, but they had no answer for Tua and the passing game. Why are you running it twice and only giving Tua one shot to convert; flip that ratio, run it once and give Tua two chances.

We cleaned up the penalties this game which was good to see. That call against Howard on his INT was pure garbage, but we got a cheap PI call against Waddle and a no call PI at the end of the game, so I’m not complaining.

We’re winning games even though we’re leaving points on the field every single game. It shows how much talent this team has. There are still 8 games for us to continue to get better, which we need to do if we want to make noise in the playoffs.

    Go Dolphins!!!

  50. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Mike, you can always get over a tough win. Losses are worse. πŸ˜‰

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I suppose so. I’m not going to feel good about this W though. I expected a jolt from our defense with the signing of Chubb, instead they laid an egg. Especially after hearing McDaniel saying that stopping Justin Field was a priority this week. WTF???

      • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

Imagine how many yards he would have gotten if we didn’t prioritize stopping him 😳

The 252 yards we gave up running was almost exclusively to Fields. Some schemed but lots of it was improvised by Fields. Both Montgomery and Herbert did nothing against us. 59 yards on 21 carries. We have a pretty stout run D.

Good teams win in spite of the other team having a “Best Day” for one player or the whole team.
We are doing that this year.

and that is why we lost.

This year, they have their career day, but they still lose.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

    β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”
I think there are some things that we can do schematically against running QBs such not play cover 0. I don’t get that against a mobile QB. When your DBs are in man their backs are to the QB it is going to create opportunities for the QB to run

M13, I don’t think it’s on Boyer. The calls aren’t wrong. Too many missed tackles by the back end. You can only play with who you have. Fields is RB playing QB.

Some of it HAS to be on Boyer. He’s the DC and they are getting eviscerated.

The scheme was wrong today. Too much cover 0 for a mobile QB

and their cover 0 isn’t nearly as effective when they don’t have corners that can play man. It’s not just the lash rush that isn’t effective this year, but also the fact that the secondary is depleted . One has a direct effect on the other.

Titans loss probably means nothing at the EOY, shoe in for duvision, KC is only a half game up on Chargers, go Titans

Bucs and Falcons tied for the NFC south lead at 4-5.
Saints could move up to a 3-way tie with a win tomorrow.

Brady went over 100,000 yards today. That’s insane.

The really good news is we won, even after our D played awful for the second week in a row. I think it’s especially frustrating because we have lined for this offense for years, have had a solid D most years and now we are one dimensional again. I just hope that the D can turn it around like they did last year.
