2023 Season – Game 10 – Raiders @ Dolphins

The Dolphins play at home in the friendly confines of Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, where the Dolphins are at their best. In 4 games, the Dolphins have scored 174 points good for an absurd average of 43.5 points per game. The defense has thrived here as well, allowing 74 points in 4 games for an average of 18.5 points per game. We score 11 more points per game and allow about 6.5 points per game less. We’re better at home, of this there is no doubt. I’d love to fancy our team as a team that can win anywhere, but right now, we’re a much better team at home. This just signified the importance of not only winning the division, but having a good enough conference record to have home field is as many games as possible.

The Raiders are an up and down team, but mostly they’re a team that has struggled offensively. The Raiders decided Jimmy Garoppolo was their QB, and Garropolo who we all know can’t play a full season is OUT and their rookie 2023 4th RD draft pick Aidan O’Connell has a 2-1 record in Jimmy G’s stead. In total, the Raiders have scored 17.2 points per game, or close to half of what we have scored this season. The Raiders defense has been decent, allowing only 20.5 points per game, 4.5 points less than our Dolphins defense. There are two huge difference makers for both teams entering this game though. The Raiders have finally figured out they need to lean on their best offensive weapon, RB Josh Jacobs, while the Dolphins come in about healthier than we have been all season, and more complete.

In the last 2 games for the Raiders, RB Josh Jacobs has been a workhouse, helping the team to two consecutive victories over NY teams, first the Giants, in which Jacobs had a season high 26 carries for 98 yards, and then against the Jets with a new season high 27 carries for 116 yards. For the Dolphins, we’re getting back our secondary, and possibly for the first time all season, we’ll have a healthy CB tandem of Xavien Howard and Jalen Ramsey. In addition, we’ll have a healthy Safety tandem of Jevon Holland and DeShon Elliott. Our pass rush has come on lately, and a healthy Jaelan Phillips and a resurgence from OLB Bradley Chubb has got this defense playing better. Andrew Van Ginkel has taken on more of a secondary role, but still a big part of the defensive rotation. This is the defense we’d hoped for, now they have to stay healthy and shut teams down. This week, objective #1 is to limit Josh Jacobs. The Raiders don’t want to put the game on QB Aidan O’Connell’s shoulders, so if we shut down Jacobs, it could be a long day for the raiders offense who don’t do well when Jacobs isn’t getting lots of carries and thriving.

This week could be the return of a big offensive weapon for the Dolphins, RB De’Von Achane. There are differing reports everywhere, but there is a good chance Achane returns from a knee injury suffered against the NY Giants October 8th. Raheem Mostert has logged 2 consecutive limited practices but almost certainly will play Sunday. Of more concern is RG Robert Hunt, who looks to miss this game with a hamstring injury. Terron Armstead who played last week will start at LT with Liam Eichenberg at LG, Connor Williams at C, Lester Cotton at RG and Austin Jackson at RT. Not ideal, and Maxx Crosby is feasting this year with 59 total tackles (35 solo), 9 sacks, 13 TFL, 15 QB hits, 1 FF and 1 FR. Austin Jackson and Lester Cotton and our TE’s are going to have keep Crosby in check and away from our QB Tua Tagovailoa, who gets rid of the ball ultra quick anyway. If we have both RB’s this week, keep in mind how they’ve thrived splitting carries. Against the Broncos, they had an amazing day, Achane with 203 yards on 18 carries and 2 TD’s, while Mostert had 82 yards on 13 carries and 3 TD’s. Achane had over 100 yards against the Bills but Mostert was stopped dead. Against the Giants, Achane exploded for 151 yards on 11 carries while Mostert had 65 yards on 10 carries. both scoring a TD each.

The defense needs to continue to make strides and become one of the leagues best units. This is the lineup we’ve waited to watch, now they have to realize their potential. It seems likely PR/KR Braxton Berrios won’t be playing which returns return duties back to Cedric Wilson. We do, however, get a boost with the return of WR River Cracraft. Cracraft and Ced Wilson will probably take slot duties if Berrios can’t go. One more concern on offense is the health of TE Durham Smythe who is dealing with an ankle injury, but did manage to get a limited practice session in on Thursday, and will most likely suit up. The Dolphins are ranked #10 against the run and have 29 sacks, good for 9th in the NFL in sacks. With the secondary healthy, and all our pass rushers healthy, I expect the sack numbers to go up and for this defense to start forcing more turnovers. Kader Kohou moving back to the slot where he really thrives, will share time with Nik Needham who is getting healthy as well. If and when rookie CB Cam Smith ever makes his presence felt remains to be seen, but even without Smith, this is the defense we want out there.

Though, Jags won easy and Texans keep it rolling also.

  2. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

Pretty hard to see the Jest scoring on this defense. Next week PROTECTING the ball is absolutely paramount. The Raiders score 7 points today if the offense protected the ball.

  3. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

I think the offense can get back on track, but next week is the Jets who will be tough to get right against

I expect to see more of what we saw today. We need our starting OG’s back.

  4. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

I still can’t believe 3 or 4 Dolphins defenders walking around the live ball right near the goal line, lol.

Well, now we know we can beat a .500 football team. That’s progress 🙂

Actually, our SOV went up despite Chargers loss to .296

    Go Broncos, beat the Vikes!

MM takes responsibility for the offensive struggles.

Tua takes responsibility for the offensive struggles.

Mostert is not going to hold up having to be a bell cow like he was today. He’s going to be sore this week.

This is a revenge game for the Bills.

With 146 today, Hill now has 1222 yds.
Needs 788 yds in the last 7 games to break 2000. Appx 113 per game…

We miss Wynn and Hunt at OG.

I figured they were just being super cautious with Achane. That’s the right decision. We need him down the stretch, and it proved correct we didn’t need him to finish this game off. I do hope he can stay healthy though, hopefully he’s not as fragile as he seems right now.

  23. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

2:18 left in the half, the Jest have 20 yds of offense- 18 of them on one pass play

I’m so fucking tired. Got 4 hours sleep Friday night and 3 hours last night. Bunch of DUI bonds in the early hours. The stress from the game has wore off and hitting a brick wall right now. Only a little over 5 hours to go. lol

Went to the Vegas F1 race 🏎 last night, it was pretty awesome, unlike today’s game

Played like shit on O, outside of Tyreek, then not taking the lateral in for 6 was retarded, if the ball is on the ground with no whistle pick it up, let the officials officiate the game

Waddle has mostly been sleepwalking this year, and today, except the series Tyreek was out

Just read Achane was held out as a precaution. He wanted to go back in.

  28. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Read some comments above about not being as good as we thought. I agree, it’s like we’re still in preseason, with bad mistake after mistake

Injures don’t help, but you’d think we wouldn’t see this crap in week 10

  29. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

We’d better win out, because we aren’t good enough to win on the road

  30. Ken's avatar Ken says:

Ugly win but it’s a win

    • Brian in NY's avatar Brian in NY says:

Exactly . I’m concerned that MM can’t adjust to when the defensive coaches make adjustments to us. This happened last year. He needs to figure it out if he is to be more than an above average coach

  31. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

We won in San Diego. That’s a long trip.
And we won in Foxboro, a tough place to go into and win.

I’m hoping we win in the Meadowlands on Friday.

  32. Ken's avatar Ken says:

A little perspective. The Raiders have been hot. They have been riding an emotional high after changing coaches. They have an elite WR, an elite RB and an elite DE. We could have and should have won by more but we beat a hot team and I will take that

  33. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

Thomas Morestead has more than twice the passer rating as Zack Wilson.

  34. Brian in NY's avatar Brian in NY says:

We need to somehow get ahead of KC or Baltimore. If we don’t, we will have to play likely one game at home in the playoffs, and then two on the road in INCREDIBLY difficult places to play if we’re to get to where we want to be.

  35. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

Josh Allen with a 69 passer rating.

  36. Ken's avatar Ken says:

I don’t think the Raiders figured out our offense. We still had over 400 yards in offense. We still were killing it on the in breaking routes. We ran okay. We kind of shot ourselves in the foot. We missed a FG. We had a horrible 4th and goal call. We definitely left points out there. That is more on us than the Raiders

  37. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

The Raiders get the Chiefs in Vegas next week. Maybe they can help us out.
The Chiefs have the Packers, Bills, Patriots, Chargers, and Bengals.
    and the Raiders twice.

Here’s hoping they lose a few.

  38. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

The Ravens still have to play the Chargers, Rams, Jags, 9rs, Steelers, and us.
Somebody needs to step up against the Blackbirds.

    We need a hard-hitting MLB.

  40. Ken's avatar Ken says:

Fugly win against a middling team, but a WIN is a WIN! Great collective team effort today, Phins!

Yes, our Offense certainly left points on the field today… but once again (as of late), our Defense answered the call when needed.

Onto the stej… where I sure hope Thomas Morstead doesn’t become their starting QB!

  54. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Something I just realized: had we scored 8 more points than the Chefs* to beat them in Germany, we would have swept the AFC WEST this season.

That’s SERIOUSLY something to hang our hat on.

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

*8 more points on the Chefs*

And we were down 3 starting O-Linemen and Achane in that game. Not to mention, Waddle got injured early on in Germany and wasn’t quite the same for the rest of the game.

  55. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

Big win for the Broncos. They’ve put themselves back in the hunt

  56. Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

Wow…first game this year (I’ve watched) when the Defense won the game for us. Fucking awesome.

My second observation is our Offense truly suffers from not having a fucking OL. We never push the pile on 3rd or 4th and 1, we swing the ball out, any DL is always in our backfield (yesterday was proof positive), we are always rushing our throws due to pressure. It’s terrible and it’s improved…lol sadly.

Our special teams need a new coach and all new kickers.

And, we’re 7-3! Oh my….how fortunate. We need to get better, for sure. December football is nigh.

  57. Brian in NY's avatar Brian in NY says:

Anyone see an update on Hunt? I know he was basically week to week, but haven’t heard much.

  58. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

But there was pressure on Tua
Not sure if these stats convey that,
but a broken pocket might change Tua’s launch point.
    Pressure caused the INT.
Tua completed less than half his throws that took nore than 2.5 seconds. 6 of 13 for 105 yards and 1 INT.

On quick passes Tua was 22 of 26 for 219 and 2 TDs on passes he threw under 2.5 seconds.

  62. New Age's avatar New Age says:

We should easily get in the playoffs, but we’ve got a lot of problems right now. Offense is incredibly inconsistent and having TOs like crazy after having a week off for rest is pretty bad. We can’t run in short yardage situations very well. STs are worst in the league. Defense is playing well though.

I would have never thought that our offense was holding us back after the 70-20 rout, but it is. Every week they find new ways to struggle. We have the ability to be great, and the last three games should give them practice beating good teams or at least give McD and Co. some ideas how to win against great teams.

  63. pheloniusphish's avatar pheloniusphish says:

Nets are toast. Bills should lose their next three (Philly, KC, Cowboys), probably win the next two (LAC, NE). Puts them at 8-8 when they get to Miami for the last game. And probably out of the playoffs.

A Philly win tonight would be helpful. Lot of season left but Miami should be 11-3 when they go to Baltimore. Still a shot at number one seed.

I think we are going to face Tim Boyle this Friday
Honestly don’t know how he is event in the league

He’s got to have nude photos of Roger Goodell or something

He’s got one of the worst stat lines I’ve ever seen if you count college

In the nfl, he’s been on 4 teams in 5 years

    And has completed 73 of 120 passes (60.8%) for 607 with a 5.1 3 TDs and 9 INTs

He was actually pretty bad in college
At UConn he passed for over 1300…in 3 years and passed for 1 TD and 13 interceptions

He transferred to Eastern Kentucky and played as a redshirt senior
    Where he started 11
Games passed for over 2100 yards
And through for 11 TDs and 13 interceptions

If you are counting that’s 15 TDs to 35 interceptions

    That’s worse than a 1:2 ratio

I’ve never seen stats like that

At Connecticut he averages less than 6 yards a pass and still threw 11 interceptions

    How bad is this guy?

    I’ve mentioned him before

I think he might be the worst QB in the history of the game
    I’m not exaggerating

Has anyone ever seen anything like this before?

How bad does this guy suck

  68. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

Said about Tim Boyle in 2022

“At no point since high school has Boyle looked like an NFL quarterback. He threw more interceptions than touchdowns his senior college season at Eastern Kentucky, which came after transferring away from UConn”

  69. Ken's avatar Ken says:

Boyle can’t be worse than Wilson. In reality their OL is so bad it may not matter

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

      He is worse Ken

I’m telling you is may be the worst QB in nfl history

It’s just been under the radar bc no one had cared about him
But he’s atrocious at every level

Eastern Kentucky and UConn are exactly college powerhouses and he struggled against the competition at those schools

      • Ken's avatar Ken says:

There is a reason why he is on a NFL roster. I am not saying the guy is a world beater but I don’t like underestimating anyone

      • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

He’s only on a roster bc of the relationships he maintained

Nathanial Hacket was with the packers when they signed him

The nfl is a club sometimes and people of lesser talent who know the right people stick around

  70. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

Apparently Tim Boyle was undrafted out of college

But at Yales pro day he impressed the Packers with his athleticism

No one was really looking at him

And so at Yale – the modern day Mecca of athleticism in college athletics,
    He was impressive….eh…relatively

  71. Ken's avatar Ken says:

Boyle can’t be worse than Wilson. I mean he was able to walk on to the field ok

  72. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

There’s only one reason Boyle is on a roster in the nfl right now

Bc Aaron Rogers signed with the jests

Basically when Hackett was the OC in Green Bay, he worked with Boyle as an understudy to Rogers (😛) for two years

The jests did this weird thing this off-season where they tried to appease Rogers is everyday possible

So they brought in a bunch of former packers
And Hacket – who’s been horribly bad

And now they are starting Tim Boyle on the first ever game on Black Friday

The entire country is about to watch a guy who couldn’t compete at Eastern Kentucky or UConn lead one of the worst offensives in the nfl behind the worst OL in the nfl

Meanwhile our defense is healthy and playing their best 🏈 of the season

I just have one thing to say about that

  73. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

If you google “Tim Boyle Highlights” is just photos of his high school graduation
