Miami Dolphins hire new Defensive Coordinator Anthony Weaver

I feel pretty neutral on the hire of new DC Anthony Weaver. I love that he came from a great organization like the Baltimore Ravens, but unless he’s bringing his players with him, that doesn’t mean as much as it sounds like it should. John Harbaugh is an excellent Head Coach, and I’m not sure how much it matters who his assistant coaches are. The Ravens have one of if not the best front offices in the NFL. I’ve put this stat up before, and every time I do it’s kind of astonishing. John Harbaugh is 160-99 as the Baltimore Ravens Head Coach over the last 16 years. That’s a ridiculous .618 winning percentage. and have made 11 playoff appearances during that time including 1 Super Bowl victory. The list of assistant coaches he’s had is extensive, big names litter the list. To me, the best aspect of bringing Anthony Weaver here is the base defense will be very similar to what we ran here in Miami.

I don’t know how much of an influence DC Anthony Weaver will have on acquiring personnel, but the salary cap of course is going to impact much of they proceed in doing so. You have to figure that one of the main priorities will be to re-sign DL Christian Wilkins. He’s been the epitome of what we strive for, honing his game, improving each season, and even more importantly, playing every single game the last 3 seasons, as well as tallying top snap counts on defense within each game. Our 1st RD pick (#13) in 2019, he has evolved into one of the NFL’s best interior defensive lineman. As we know, the Dolphins did offer Christian Wilkins a contract less than the top 10 DL and Wilkins bet on himself and now will be cashing in on that bet in 2024 as he had his best season with the Dolphins.

Right now, the linebacker position is a sore spot for the Dolphins. Weaver in Baltimore had a couple of the top inside linebackers, Roquan Smith and Patrick Queen. The pair combined for an absurd 291 tackles, each topping 80 solo tackles, and both near the top of their team in passes defensed (Smith 8, Queen 6), so these guys were also very involved in coverage. For the Dolphins, OLB Andrew Van Ginkel led the team with 8, and it’s anyone’s guess if we can find the money to re-sign AVG this season. I think you can pencil in ILB David Long Jr. as one of the inside backers, but it’s very questionable as to takes the other inside LB spot. Then of course, we have the unfortunate issue of filling in for 2 of our best pass rushing OLB’s Bradley Chubb and Jaelan Phillips until they are ready for action. It’s fair to say both will miss a few games, hopefully neither miss 1/2 the season or more.

On the Baltimore defensive line, DE Justin Madubuike had an absolutely outstanding season, finishing with an impressive 13 sacks, after managing just 8 total in his first 3 seasons. Madubuike originally was playing DT, or RDE, and then was switched to LDE, and he really took off after the change of position. I think the most glaring difference on the D-line is the Ravens NT, Michael Pierce. He is the complete opposite of the body type we currently have at NT in Raekwon Davis. Raekwon is 6’7 325, while the Ravens NT Michael Pierce is a stout fireplug at 6’0 355. Guess what folks? Raekwon Davis is now a Free Agent, and as GM Chris Grier says, “He’s earned the right to be a Free Agent”. Don’t be surprised if Raekwon Davis is not back with the Dolphins in ’24. Free Agents that might fit the bills are former Kansas City Chiefs DT Derrick Nnadi (6’1 320), former Dolphins and Detroit Lions DT Benito Jones (6’1 335), and former Chicago Bears and Minnesota Vikings DT Khyiris Tonga (6’4 338). Currently on the roster is DT Brandon Pili who may able to eat his way to becoming a potential NT candidate as well.

Let’s get back to the linebackers. If we started the season today, I would imagine David Long Jr. (LILB) and Channing Tindall (RILB) would start inside, and as I mentioned that both Bradley Chubb and Jaelan Phillips will most likely be unavailable to start the season, Cameron Goode and Quinton Bell bell are the only outside backers. Is it possible that we actually keep LB Jerome Baker on the roster, and make a position switch for him to outside linebacker? With all the money we need to shave, I say there are some long odds on that, and we will have to be creative to find suitable replacements for Chubb and Phillips, unless one of them, perhaps Cam Goode can make a splash next season.

At safety, well, we’re kind of fresh out of safeties. Jevon Holland is our only returning safety as DeShon Elliott, Brandon Jones and Elijah Campbell are all Free Agents. At cornerback, the picture isn’t much brighter. Once again, the salary cap vulture will be taking away a player or two from this unit, and it may finally come to play that CB Xavien Howard is no longer a Miami Dolphins. That leaves Jalen Ramsey, Kader Kohou, Cam Smith, Keion Crossen, and Ethan Bonner. There may be a cut or two at CB as well, but you’d have to expect Cam Smith will be given every chance to earn and secure a starting spot next season. There’s been a lot of buzz about how Anthony Weaver transformed Baltimore Ravens S Kyle Hamilton into a Pro Bowl safety. I don’t expect to use an early pick on a safety, Hamilton was a 1st RD pick in 2022, so Holland would be the guy who’s already on the cusp of being that type of player, but I wouldn’t mind if we could find the money to bring back DeShon Elliott next season. He’s a gamer, played in 15 games last season and finished 2nd in tackles. He’s also a physical player, a good partner with Holland. Depending on what Grier, Weaver and McDaniel think about Cam Smith, we may be forced to draft another cornerback, but whoever we draft early, we MUST hit on that player, and get early and important contributions from both. This is what has to happen when you put yourself in salary cap peril.

By the way, woke up to 8″ of heavy, wet snow this morning.

  2. bailbondmike says:

M13, yeah that mock draft I did, after taking Worthy at #35 I was surprised at who was there for the rest of my picks. That is why I never selected a TE. There was always someone better who slipped to me. I am sure Benson will be gone before late 2nd round and no way (IMO) McKinley Jackson lasts to the 3rd round. He’s built like a huge tree trunk 6’2 325 (not fat) and disruptive.

    • mf13ss says:

Let me tell ya something… that mock draft you did was KILLER!!! Can’t see trading ‘Reek, but Holy Smokes… the return was INCREDIBLE, and ya made payroll (cap space) to boot!

  3. bailbondmike says:

I was just playing around with that simulator and wanted to see what I could get for Tyreek and still have a dangerous offense. LG Barton, C JPJ and RG Hunt on the IOL would be sick for years to come. Same on D. Wilkins, Jackson and Seiler on the DL would be sick for years to come.

  4. bailbondmike says:

Hunting season is over and too gusty to take the boat out today. Just trying to conquer the boredom.

  5. bailbondmike says:

Trading Tyreek wasn’t all that farfetched. I traded him to the Cardinals who have the picks and cap space. That said, you’re right, we wouldn’t do that.

  6. mf13ss says:

My gut is telling me that we’ll trade down a bit to the bottom half of the 1st round in order to recoup our lost 3rd rounder (thanks, Steve Ross). In doing so, we just may be able to add another 2nd rounder (instead of a 3rd rounder).

Of course, if ‘THE GUY’ we want is there @ R1P21, we’ll likely pull the trigger.

    • mf13ss says:

The other reason I’m suspecting a trade down from R1P21? We need to fill the roster with more and cheaper bodies instead of signing or re-signing FAs.

We’ll see what happens in FA, but as of the moment, I’d be looking to find cheaper labor in the here and now.

      • mf13ss says:

And now that I think about as much, I wonder if trading some of our 2025 Draft capital could be in play for the 2024 Draft regarding our current cap space issues.

That’s a VERY DANGEROUS game to play and I certainly don’t advise as much.

  7. herdfan says:

It happens every year around this time. We’re in cap hell, half a roster to fill. What will we do, what will we do?!?!

I don’t know the answer, but i do know every year they manage to do it. They tweak this, restructure that, trade and cut. Cook the books. It also seems like every year they manage to do something surprising. At least I’m surprised.

I’ll just wait and see. Hopefully we’ll keep building on what we’ve started. We’re already getting rid of coaches that weren’t a fit. We’ll be okay. 😊

    ✌🏻❤️🐬🏈

  8. mf13ss says:

I should think that the only way we’d trade any of our ’25 Draft capital for the upcoming Draft is if we were to make a move on a QB… moving on from Tua.

Strictly as an example: we could trade Tua, our 1st rounders from both ’24 and ’25, a couple of 2nd rounders, and some change to Chicago to move up to R1P1 for Caleb Williams this Draft.

I do NOT see that happening… AT ALL, nor do I recommend as much. Some of you here would love to see it though!

  9. Tim Knight says:

I actually don’t mind using future draft capital to get more prospects or to land a specific prospect in this year’s draft. They’re going to be on the team for at least 4 years and if they help us get to where we want to go, especially being that we are committed to trying to win now, it makes sense me. Players on rookie contracts buy you more time.

If we don’t win playoff games and get close to or in the Super Bowl in the next couple of years, we’re likely starting over with new coaches and players anyway.

  10. Rockphin says:

    We’ll be ok

    • Tim Knight says:

Some of us want to win now. You seem to prefer building for years, rarely making the playoffs and having lots of cap space. Been there done that!

The common denominator in teams that have had sustained success is they had/have a good or great QB. Teams that don’t have a good QB never win.

      • Rockphin says:

The only way to sustain the top team is to continue to build it correctly and continuously teams that sell out and go all in flame out every time every time

  11. Ken says:

Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reports “With the salary cap continuing to rise,Tua Tagovailoa now has a strong case to push for a contract at or above Joe Burrow’s top-of-the-market $55 million per season.” Notes that indications are both sides would like to get a deal done quickly
    And cue Mike E in 1, 2 and…

    • Tim Knight says:

Negotiations with Tua’s agent have been ongoing for awhile now.

First it was Tua can’t throw deep. Then it was he can’t stay healthy. He overcomes both of those criticisms and now it’s he can’t play big in big games. Even though it wasn’t all on him. I like our chances with him to overcome that too. 🙂

    • herdfan says:

I don’t think he deserves a top of market deal. I like Tua. I think he’s talented. But no denying he has been unable to beat the top teams down the stretch. He and his people, the ones who negotiate for him, they have to know it too. So come up with something that’s fair, based on performance. I don’t think you can justify a top level deal. That is all. 😊

  12. Tim Knight says:

The Saints first 4 seasons with Drew Brees starting off in his 6th season: 10-6, 7-9, 8-8 and 13-3 (Super Bowl Champions).

His first 5 seasons with the Chargers he made the playoffs once and lost in the WC round. He didn’t win a playoff game until his first season with the Saints. Then they missed the playoffs the next two years.

    Just some food for thought.

  13. steveccnv says:

Ogbah and Baker are good as gone, that’s about 24m, cap expected to be over 240m, so we’re really about 40m over

Tua will be signed could save another 15m

    I think we’ll be ok

  14. Tim Knight says:

Phillips is out of the boot and walking coming off of his Achilles injury. He’s got 5 months before TC starts. On the other hand Chubb is probably going to miss at least the first 4-6 games in 2024. To me the injuries to those two guys is the biggest conundrum we have heading into the 2024 season.

  15. Mike E. says:

Ken – I won’t be surprised if Tua gets a deal, it seems that’s way teams in the NFL operate. You have a legitimate QB, you pay him.

On the other hand, I see some similarities between the Mets and 1B Pete Alonso, and the Dolphins with Tua. Pete Alonso has already played 5 seasons, but is now on his final year of his contract with the Mets. Alonso is a very strong offensive player, and not a bad 1B as a fielder either, probably average or slightly above average. He has zero footspeed and is not a running threat on the bases. He has averaged 38 HR’s and 99 RBI’s , and that’s including the COVID year where he only played in 57 games. Take out that season and he’s hit 44 HR’s and 116 RBI’s per season. Still, the Mets have yet to give Pete Alonso and extension. Take Pete Alonso off the Mets and there’s a huge hole in the batting lineup. It’s still possible the Mets sign him to a big contract, but it seems that analytics tell you not to pay a slugger who doesn’t run well or is not a great fielder to a huge contract. That doesn’t mean the Mets won’t, but they haven’t. I could be wrong, but I think this is what Tua is. He’s competent overall because he will really kill the bad teams, but then falter against the better teams. I’m going to be watching both situations very closely.

    • Tim Knight says:

The difference is agent Scott Boras won’t allow Pete Alonso to sign an extension this year. He wants FA market value in 2025. It’s different with QBs when you have one. If you lose a QB who can win games you’re likely toast.

As good as Alonso is as a power hitter we’ve lost more than we’ve won with him. Different game.

      • Mike E. says:

Right, but the similarities are that the Mets could have signed Alonso last year, or even the year before, but chose not to. It’s surprising because Mets fans like Alonso, and he would put a huge void in the lineup, but there’s something missing with him that they didn’t lock him up earlier.

    • Ken says:

I was just messing with you because I knew that would trigger you. Putting aside whatever any of our opinions are of Tua I believe he will have a contract extension and restructure and it will be substantial. This will happen for a number of reasons. First and foremost we need to restructure for cap purposes. Also because he is not even 26 yet and he has gotten better every year. For those reasons alone he will get a substantial extension. Is it fair? Probably not but this is life in the NFL today

  16. mf13ss says:

2022: led the NFL in passer rating
2023: led the NFL in passing yardage
    2024?

Nah, this isn’t Josh Allen… who just barely squeaked out a win against our Phins in the ’22 Wildcard with Skylar Thompson as our starting QB.

    • mf13ss says:

We’ve collectively CLAMORED for a QB who can do such things since the days of Dan Marino… for over TWO DECADES. We finally got that QB and now some want his head?

      • Mike E. says:

Playing him on his 5th year of his contract isn’t wanting his head. Is he any more worthy of a contract than Christian Wilkins was? He’s in the same position now. Play for pay. Christian Wilkins knocked it out of the park. Can Tua?

      • Tim Knight says:

        QB over every other position.

    • steveccnv says:

Tua, like Brees doesn’t have the physical attributes others do, it’s going to take him a little longer to get to his peak, which he’s no where near

I do expect him to some day soon, hit that peak, and we better have paid him first

    • The Flying Pig says:

      It’s a really strong record

I still think he needs to play better

For me , in terms of replacement and improvement – it may not be there for us

Iwe basically got to hit on a draftee QB that everyone else passed on

I pretty much have accepted that we sign him long term and even if he doesn’t improve and play better in big games (which I think he must do) within 2-3 years we might be able to draft an eventual replacement

It’s not unthinkable to have a high priced vet QB and a rookie contract QB on the roster

And as far as I can see the draft is the only way to improve on Tua and we don’t have the assets to make a move this now

So I think we are basically doing what a few of you have suggested

Signing him long term and creating space now based on his first year cap number (which will be smaller )

  17. steveccnv says:

We need one of Chubb/Phillips to play in the first quarter of the season

We can let AVG walk, if one of them start the season

Really can’t see AVG getting resigned, they sure FDup his contract last year only getting 1 year

    • The Flying Pig says:

      I agree

But it’s reality we are letting both AVG and Ogbah walk

So that’s a serious blow to last years depth chart

Maybe some one else will step up
Maybe they can re-sign one of the many low priced vets like Ingram or JPP we were signing late this season

I would prefer to have AVG back

I really want to focus on keeping the players we have developed

  18. bailbondmike says:

Nice prospect but we don’t need a RT.

  19. Rockphin says:

    Miami Free Agents next month

    Christian Wilkins
    Robert Hunt
    Connor Williams
    Braxton Berrios
    Andrew Van Ginkel
    Isaiah Wynn
    Nik Needham
    DeShon Elliot
    Chase Claypool
    Eli Apple
    Salvon Ahmed
    Raekwon Davis
    Justin Bethel
    Kendall Lamm
    Jake Bailey
    Brandon Jones
    Tyler Kroft
    River Cracraft
    Elijah Campbell
    Calvin Munson
    Justin Houston
    Bruce Irvin
    Jonotthan Harrison

    • Rockphin says:

All of these guys need to be either resigned or replaced. How much do you think it will realistically take to sign 18-22 NFL veterans? (after the 4-5 draft picks, if they are lucky to get that many)

  20. Rockphin says:

20 x $915K (vet minimum this season) = 18.3 Mil So Grief needs to clear 68 MILLION from the cap to fill out the roster WITH BOTTOM FEEDER MINIMUM PLAYERS

  21. bailbondmike says:

If we don’t come to an agreement with Wilkins, they should definitely put a non-exclusive franchise tag on him.

There are non-exclusive and exclusive franchise tags. Non-exclusive tag a player can still negotiate a contract with other teams and the exclusive tag they can’t. Also, with the exclusive tag the salary/cap hit is more.

“If the negotiations on a non-exclusive tag lead to a contract offer, then the team applying the franchise tag would have a first right of refusal in terms of matching the offer. If the team applying the tag declines to match the offer sheet, the team proposing the offer would send two first-round NFL draft picks in return for signing the player.”

I would much rather have Wilkins for another year or potentially gain 2 first round picks than just letting him walk and hope we get a potential 3rd round comp pick.

Probably unheard of for that to happen with any other position than QB. Point is, it would be less of a cap hit.

  22. Rockphin says:

Tell me everyting is going to be alright when the only way to clear that kind of money is to restructure the 5 or 6 stupid contract that are eating all the cap space to begin with and push MORE money into the overly inflated cap hits that for the most part HAVE ALREADY BEEN RESTRUCTURED AND PUSHED OUT ALREADY.

Sure let’s push more of Hill money out! He is due $34M next season and 56 the following already. No problem there let’s push 10 more into those years! Simple!

Let’s push half of Armsteads money (which has already been retructured) out into his Retirement years! No problem right?

Did you guys know that Ramsey’s contract had been restructured and 26 &27 are already voided in his new contract? his cap hit for ’25 is already 21 Mill. Are we going to push 10 more into his final year?

Lot’s of ignorant people are saying it’s easy, just restructure these guys. Those people are ignorant at best and stone stupid at worst. There WILL BE future ramifications (even with the cap going up another 40 Mill in two years. ) We already went to those wells last season. The wells are dry.

Krishna, it’s the same conversation every time there is a shooting. Focusing on the weapon is also a big part of the problem. What makes people want to do this sort of thing? I know plenty of people who own guns and I’m sure you do too, and they would never do this sort of thing.

  30. Krishna says:

Exactly TK….let’s put more guns out there and easily accessible…lol. Best solution, got it!

    • Tim Knight says:

Yeah the people who pull the trigger to shoot innocent people are secondary. Let’s once again avoid the real problem and focus on the narrative of “gun” violence. It’s fucking human violence!!!

Three suspects in custody so it doesn’t seem to be one deranged individual. Was this a premeditated attack? Is that about a fucking gun?

  31. Krishna says:

  40. Tim Knight says:

Krishna, you’re missing the main issue. The person or persons who decide to do horrible acts. It’s a human issue. Murder happens in all kinds of ways. It all starts in the brain. We don’t address societal issues enough on so many fronts. We glorify violence. We bully people. We take advantage of people. Then people become unhinged in extreme ways. That’s the root of the problem. Not the weapon. That’s like blaming an irresponsible house fire on fire.

If that’s true freedom to you, then you are speaking about a totalitarian government (think communism) that bans guns. How did that work out for the citizens of Mao and Stalin? Well over 50 million dead (and that’s a very minimal figure… likely over 100 million dead) in a relatively very short period of time.

The Constitution — written over 200 years ago — guarantees us all the right to bear arms (unless a convicted felon). Approximately 1.2 million Americans have died in all wars, combined. According to NBC News (LOL), 1.5 million Americans have died due to gun violence since 1968.

Now, I’m not the sharpest tack on the bulletin board (LOL), but I think I’ll take my chances in a free America under the 2nd Amendment rather than going gun-free. What’s more, the vast majority of these gun crimes occur in big cities that have so-called “gun-free zones”. And there’s a certain commonality with all of these cities where gun crimes are out of control, but I’m not going to say what it is in order to avoid a political debate! LOL

It’s the sick, evil fuck who chooses to take a life or lives… not the gun… not the knife… not the toothpick (yes, one can kill with a mere toothpick)… not the match… not the car… not the drug… not the alcohol… not the fist… not the foot… and not even the nuclear bomb. It’s a sick, evil decision that causes these tragedies.

And why are these tragedies seemingly increasing in frequency? The intentional breakdown of the nuclear family, desensitizing of violence via the media (movies, TV shows, music, video games, internet), an affair with hardcore drugs that didn’t even exist not so long ago, and what is being taught in our education system.

Try to honestly and non-violently discipline a child today? They’ll sick Children and Youth on you faster than ‘Reek can run.

Can’t tell me there’s a gun problem today when for nearly 150 years there wasn’t a gun problem. Yesteryear’s children were born and raised (parenting!) to shoot guns as soon as they could hold one… never a problem back then.

The problem is mental and societal today… not the gun. FUCK the media.

In NO way, shape, or form am I trying to belittle the tragedy that occurred in KC today… it’s deeply saddening to me as well.

Sorry for the rant, rant over.

  49. Tim Knight says:

Our country and the world is facing peril because we humans have created a gluttonous mindset. Most people aren’t a part of it. Lots of reasons for that and it’s not left or right. It’s something else. A very large part of the human race isn’t interested in the big picture. They have signed up for tribalism. It’s a major part of our history. The Information Age and those nations that don’t freely share information with their citizens play a role in all of this.

Humans aren’t aligned as a species. We’re still totally tribal even when you know it’s more complicated than that. We kill and eat anything we want to even if it’s not necessary. Our disregard for the lives of our own species and other species is primitive. It’s not just survival anymore, it’s gluttony. A political movement doesn’t change that. It starts way earlier than that. But that’s who we are. Humans!

    Let’s all have a chew! 😂

I wasn’t quite sure what you meant, so rather than put words in your mouth, I stated my opinion in terms that are more central/clearer to the problem.

We do have a health crisis in this country, for sure…lol

      • Tim Knight says:

What I was saying is the greed in our country and in the world has created many problems worldwide. When people are desperate they do extreme things.

  50. mf13ss says:

    Mike E,

I certainly don’t want ya to think that I’m targeting YOU when I defend Tua here… I really want that to be clear, Bro! 🙂

It’s the national media and social media that really pisses me off. I DO understand your point of view and I respect where you’re coming from. I may disagree with ya and it’s all good, but my focal point is strictly on the media in general.

Just wanted to get that off my chest! 🙂

    • Mike E. says:

All good M – I don’t take it personally. I speak my mind because that’s how I feel about the situation. I root for the team, no player supersedes that. Some people are convinced Tua is it, but the dropoff in his play against winning teams leaves me less than zealous to give him the keys for 5-6 years at somewhere between $50-60M per. The team obviously had their reservations before the season and picked up his 5th year option rather than giving him a contract. He did manage to play and stay healthy for the entire season +1, but I feel that his play was very cautious and I’m not sure that leads to post season success.

  51. mf13ss says:

QB Joe Milton, Tennessee, is certainly not a precision passer… he needs a lot of work. So if he lasts to the 5th round or later, why not take a flyer on him? I suppose it’s a matter of how ‘teachable’ he is.

Could Coach McDaniel fix his issues? If so, Milton will become DANGEROUS (in a good way). He’s got one of the strongest arms we’ve seen over the last 2 decades of prospects, and I don’t believe he’s the second coming of JaMarcus Russell.

    • mf13ss says:

Last I saw, Milton was projected to go in the 5th round. We’ll see how the Combine treats him so as to move his needle north or south.

  52. mf13ss says:

Saw yet another mock draft today where Kam Kinchens goes in the late 1st round… to the 49ers. Gotta admit, I’ve got a ‘man-crush’ on Kinchens… though I just can’t see drafting a Safety so early.

    • mf13ss says:

IF we can somehow — through salary cap magic — re-sign both Robert Hunt and Connor Williams (<– is he going to be the same after his injury?), AND obviously Christian Wilkins… I think I'd be very good with Kinchens @ R1P21.

      That's a lot to ask.

  53. mf13ss says:

One last post and I’ve got to hit the hay…

I wonder if Christian Wilkins has rubbed management the wrong way. IMO, his play on the field speaks for itself and he’s a MUST re-sign. What’s more, he truly is the ‘heart & soul’ of the team with his passion, always being one of the first to greet an Offensive player after a TD, and his non-stop enthusiasm.

However, his post-game locker room antics could be characterized as… disrespectful. I mean, jumping into the elderly Steve Ross and Dan Marino in a celebratory manner was definitely not good and not a good look. At least TRY to show some respect to the owner, even if you’re faking it, right?

Maybe it’s nothing and I’m over-thinking the matter, but I cannot BELIEVE we have yet to re-sign Wilkins. And we fans are left with only one thing to digest: Wilkins has earned his way to become a FA, via Grief.

    I have a bad feeling about this…

    • Mike E. says:

I don’t think so, because it looked pretty clear that he and Zach Sieler are very tight and feed off each other. I’m just not sure we’ll be able to keep him. He’s a key part of our defense, so I hope we don’t mess this up.

    • bailbondmike says:

Like I said yesterday, non-exclusive tag Wilkins. We get him for another year or we get 2 first round picks from another team.

Only way that won’t work is if they don’t think they can make the cap work as he would be about a 20 mil cap hit in 2024 if another team doesn’t give him an offer.

  54. bailbondmike says:

IF we can somehow — through salary cap magic — re-sign both Robert Hunt and Connor Williams (<– is he going to be the same after his injury?), AND obviously Christian Wilkins… I think I'd be very good with Kinchens @ R1P21.
    ————
I would be fine with that. Though, if we were to resign Hunt and Williams, I think I would still like LT/IOL Graham Barton who could play all 5 positions on the OL if needed. Especially at LG, center or LT.

  55. bailbondmike says:

Thinking about players who rehabbed with the same injuries as Chubb and Phillips last year, I don’t see us getting Chubb or Phillips back before November. Especially the way this team deals with injured players.

With DC Weaver coming from the Ravens, I think we could see a F/A signing of 1 or 2 players who played for him last year: either Jadeveon Clowney or a return of Kyle Van Noy or both. They had Clowney for 4.6 mil and Van Noy for 1.4 mil. They are a year older, Clowney 31 and Van Noy 33, and should come at about the same cost.

Clowney actually stayed healthy and played in all 19 games (749 snaps, about 60% of total snaps) and had 10.5 sacks with 20 QB hits.

Van Noy played in 16 games (563 snaps around 50% of total snaps) as he missed the last 3 games of the season but played in the playoffs. He had 9 sacks on the season.

No Tim that is not. That “piece of metal “ makes it possible for humans to kill with unprecedented ease and in unprecedented numbers than any other time in recorded history
    __________________________________________________________
    “Unprecedented”
Cancun machete attack – 8 killed
    Saskatchewan knife attack – 10 killed / 15 injured / Canada
    Anqing knife attack – 6 / 10 / China
Kunming train station knife attack – 27 / 109 / China (China averages 4.32 per 100K (60,480) people killings by knife per year)
Hamburg knife attack – 2 / 5 / Germany (21,000 knife attacks took place in Germany in 2022 per Tichy’s Einblick)
Oklahoma City Bombing, Fertilixer bomb -168 / injured
Blue Bird Cafe arson attack – 37 killed / 56 injured / Canada
Whiskey Au Go Go arson attack – 15 Killed / Australia
    UpStairs Lounge arson attack – 32 / 15 / Louisiana
    Gulliver’s nightclub arson attack – 24 / 32 / NY
    Denmark Place arson attack – 37 / 23 / UK
    Happy Land arson attack – 87 / 6 / NY

    Chicago Tylenol murders / 7 / Chicago
    Cyanide poisonings – 14 / Thailand
    Tokyo subway sarin attack – 13 / 50 / Japan

I could go on and on (Wiki has 88 pages of knife attacks alone). Hyperbole, ignorance, histrionics, and willful disregard for facts is why we can’t have honest discussions about guns. As Tim (correctly) said, it is a people problem. There is no easy answer. A lack of mental health care, the disintegration of the nuclear family (and the loss of morals, respect and personal accountability that it taught), race-baiters (white guilt, police target minorities, BLM, etc.), enablers (no bail, no death penalty, no borders, etc.) – these and more are brought us here.

    https://www.usatoday.com/in-depth/graphics/2022/08/18/mass-killings-database-us-events-since-2006/9705311002/

This is a comment, not an invitation to debate. I’m done responding to the same lame -ass bullshit every time some crazy uses a gun to kill people instead of a car or a knife or a bomb or poison, or fire or one of the other countless ways to kill or hurt people.

  57. bailbondmike says:

In 2022 (per CDC provisional numbers), just over 48,000 people were killed related to firearms to include suicide which is the largest portion of gun deaths. Every year only about 43% of gun deaths are by murder.

In 2022, fentanyl was responsible for over 200 deaths in the US every day. In 2022, over 73,600 people died from a fentanyl overdose in the US, more than double the number of deaths from three years prior in 2019. Over a quarter of a million Americans have died from a fentanyl overdose from since 2018.

In 2022, fentanyl overdoses way more than tripled the number of murders by firearm. It is projected that 2023 numbers will show fentanyl overdoses will more than quadruple gun related murders and more than double ALL 2023 gun related deaths.

This doesn’t even include other drugs smuggled in like heroin, JUST fentanyl.

There’s no shock value like there is with gun violence. People aren’t flipping out. This doesn’t get reported on by MSM. No one really cares unless their immediate family has been affected by it.

No one cares that this is INTENTIONAL genocide being committed by China against the US and the world for that matter. Fentanyl is already cheap, and the DEA says that China sells it in bulk at a much cheaper rate to the Mexican cartels than it does to medical facilities. China actually funnels fentanyl to the cartels through India more now so they can shift the blame to cartels in India. Most of it still ends up in Mexico then right across our joke of a border.

I know this has nothing to do with gun violence but just trying to put out some perspective. Gun violence has a SHOCK VALUE therefore it gets views and people tuning in. MSM cashes in and those with an agenda get to go buck ass crazy trying to capitalize before the shock value wears off.

Fentanyl, meh, unless it impacts your family.

    • bailbondmike says:

Sorry, but no real NFL news to put out right now and that last mock I did trading Tyreek and other players wore me out. lol

    • Mike E. says:

You mean we’re allowing too many migrants and drugs through the border and thousands of Americans are dying every year, but look at the gun problem? That?

      • bailbondmike says:

Yes, the gun problem is a mental health problem that has a shock value for the news to cash in on and those with an agenda to ride the wave until it passes.

      • Tim Knight says:

Having no conscience about injuring or killing people is definitely a mental health issue. People often look at that as if it always means mental disability. No it means somehow along the way in life some people lost their morals and empathy for other people’s lives.

  58. The Flying Pig says:

    Confession time:

I have a Dolphins fans confession that became painfully obvious last Monday

I am and old sour and forgetful pig

Yet I have many obligations and deadlines in my life
This has lead me to the practice of calendaring everything so I don’t forget things I need to get done

This Monday I came face to face with my delusional optimism

I opened up my calendar and it said

“Do not schedule anything – day after the Super Bowl”

I put this on my calendar in October when I was full of optimism that I would want to take the day off work after celebrating a Miami Dolphins Super Bowl Victory

    😔

    • Mike E. says:

Sorry, you felt the harsh sting of reality that our Dolphins are not ready for prime time

      • Tim Knight says:

Definitely not without our top players. The injuries really caught up with us. We’d get a couple of guys back and lose 2 or 3 more. That happened all season.

  59. Tim Knight says:

Anthony Weaver’s press conference is on the Miami Dolphins official site. He’s a very personable guy and says our defense will be multiple which is what most schemes are today. He’ll definitely relate well with players. McDaniel is a players coach and Fangio is more old school. That wasn’t a fit here.

  60. Mike E. says:

It’s definitely mental health. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve looked at these Pro Palestinian/Hamas protests and thought I’d love to go down there with a flamethrower and just turn the whole crowd to ashes. I don’t do it though, because I’m (relatively) mentally stable. It’s the people that aren’t that just act out on these things and the weapon of choice isn’t really important.

    • The Flying Pig says:

What’s the pragmatic solution to addressing mental health issues in the US?

      • Mike E. says:

Good question, one of which I don’t have an answer to.

      • Tim Knight says:

Lots of reasons. Phish laid out a lot of it. Most of it is from desperation. The biggest issue is where it starts. The majority of children are not that way in the early stages. With the exception of some who are simply not wired right. Life isn’t perfect. There are all kinds of abnormalities and disabilities that affect young people. But that is not the norm. How young people are raised plays a big part in it. But what happened to the adults along the way from when they were innocent children? When did it start and why?

I honestly can't see re-signing all of Hunt, Connor Williams, and Wilkins. That is why I suspect our 1st round pick will be an O-Liner, at the moment. I’m right there with ya on JPJ and Graham Barton.

I NEED some to protect myself in case a group comes after me… That should be ok right? I should be able to go into Starbucks and intimidate everyone with my home made flame thrower right? I feel I NEED to carry my AR-15 in the gas station so I can be a “hero” in case someone else commits a crime. I should be able to carry my AR to my kids school too! I need to be protected to and from. SMH at you black and white only guys.
