Like any NFL Free Agency period, there are gains and losses. To start off our Free Agency we took two major losses, despite the die hard Dolphins who keep their chins up and confidence in Grier even higher. I’ve said it, not going to dwell on it, but losing Christian Wilkins was a major failure. Besides, some of you are oohing and aahing at every free agent we sign, because they played in the NFL last season. Did you think we were going to bring in ballerinas? We’ve already brought in 3 DT’s and if I told you last season that any of the 3, Neville Gallimore, Jonathan Harris or Benito Jones was going to replace Christian Wilkins, you’d probably lose your mind. These guys are depth guys, not starters, which leads to me believe that our first pick is looking a lot like it’s going to be DT. None of the DT’s are even in the stratosphere of Christian Wilkins and while Wilkins played 894 snaps last season, Benito Jones played 567, Jonathan Harris 529 and Neville Gallimore 288. We also brought back former Dolphins DT Da’Shawn Hand. Like I said, all depth guys, so you could just about pencil in DT. Then again, the only OL we brought in was former Titans C Aaron Brewer who struggles in the pass blocking department, so I suppose JPJ (Jackson Powers-Johnson) still remains a possibility.
On the positive side, the Dolphins signed Free Agent CB Kendall Fuller from the Washington Commanders. Fuller was a 3rd RD pick by the Redskins in 2016. He’s a legit starting corner, so the void left by the departure of CB Xavien Howard has been filled, and Howard’s proclamation that “the door is closed” is probably accurate from both sides now. CB Cam Smith may still end up being a factor at some point, but we don’t need to foolishly rely on the 2nd year player who couldn’t get on the field while DC Vic Fangio was here. We also have CB Kader Kohou and we recently re-signed one of my faves Nik Needham. We’re looking pretty solid all of a sudden at CB.
At safety, we recently signed former Bills standout S Jordan Poyer. I still recall our favorite Pig begging the Dolphins to draft Poyer so many years ago, actually, it was 11 years ago, and unfortunately, he’s not the same player. I still like the signing, but he will be 33 at season’s start. S DeShon Elliott is now gone, he signed with the Steelers. We also signed ST’s gunner Siran Neal from the Bills, and that one is a big gain for us, and big loss for the Bills. S Brandon Jones also left the Dolphins and now will be playing in Mile High for the Broncos. We signed ILB Jordyn Brooks, formerly of the Seattle Seahawks to replace Jerome Baker. The Dolphins desperate for help at OLB signed long time veteran Shaq Barrett formerly of the Buccaneers. Barrett is now 31, but until either or both of Jaelan Phillips and Bradley Chubb are healthy, we’re going to need pass rushers. That brings me to the sad news of losing OLB Andrew Van Ginkel. AVG will now be toiling in Minnesota for the Vikings and DC Brian Flores. Honestly, I think he looks good as a Viking, but man I’ll miss him. NT Raekwon Davis is also gone now signing a modest contract with the Indianapolis Colts.
Our offense potentially got a nice jolt with the signing of FA TE Jonnu Smith. Smith had his best season last year in Atlanta with 50 catches for 582 yards with a nice 11.6 YPR and 3 TD’s. BTW, the 3 TD’s Jonnu Smith caught last season is 3 more TD’s than the entire Dolphins TE depth chart. That’s disturbing! Slot receiver Hunter Renfro formerly of the Las Vegas Raiders was released by said team and he could be a possibility here in Miami. While Jonnu Smith showed excellent run after catch abilities, Renfrow knows how to get open. 2nd year WR Erik Ezukanma will get a chance, but I wouldn’t be adverse to bringing in Renfro. I expected a lot more from Braxton Berrios last season.
As we head into the draft with a modest arsenal of draft picks, we must hit on some if not all of our picks. It’s imperative we find starters that contribute day one with our first 2 picks for sure. With the departures of DT Christian Wilkins and OG Robert Hunt, it’s safe to think the first 2 picks, #21 and #55, unless we move back, or up, are used on the trenches, O-line and D-line. Jackson Powers-Johnson, Graham Barton and Cooper Beebe are potential OC’s or OG’s that could be in play. On the D-line, T’Vondre Sweat and Byron Murphy are early pick DT candidates. It’s not impossible we go with an OLB like Penn State LB Chop Robinson. Other DT’s that may get consideration are Jer’Zhan Newton and Braden Fiske, both athletic, active, disruptive defenders. I’m hoping we hit on this, it’s quite necessary.
GO DOLPHINS!!!

First!
Great article as always … very thoughtful and well organized.
Glad to see you’re back in off the ledge.
Thanks Naples
Fins are kicking the can so hard theyre going to one up the Mets with Bobby Bo contract before they are done. 🤣
Good summary MikeE. I will be happy with any combo of Barton, JPJ, Beebe, Murphy, Newton and Fiske.
With the signing of Benito Jones to go with Pili at NT, I am looking for a disruptive stud to play opposite Seiler. That is why I left NT Sweat off the list.
Thanks Mike

What? Fart&Frisk
or Fart on Friske
that’s I way to welcome him to Miami
There are 48 FA WRs still out there, headlined by Mike Williams and Hunter Renfrow.
Also Allen Robinson and Michael Thomas and OBJ.
Do we want one of those veterans who know how to play in the league to be our #3-4 guy to come up with a Big Play in a crucial spot?
Or a guy who plays more snaps like Marques Valdes Scantling or Mecole Hardman.
If it were me, I’d go get Deonte Harty for his speed and kick return ability and to stick it to the Bills.
He was their cap casualty, and you know he’s pissed at them for that.
Michael Thomas or Renfrow would be my top choices, then OBJ
I have no idea about any of these guys, but thank you Mike E. for putting it all out there.
You’re welcome Krishna

With Tua playing every game … is Mike White worth keeping around? There will be some solid QB flyers available in 6th round (so much cheaper) to go along with Skylar Thompson. I’m thinking of BBM’s mock taking Hartman in 6th!
That could free up some $ toward FA OL …
———————————
I thought we should have released White a while ago to clear some cap. That or try to trade him for a 7th this year or next to a team who needs a backup. Thompson has been in this system from day 1. Draft another or bring in an UDFA.
It wasn’t me who mocked Hartman but I like him. I think it was Piggy.
A 7th round/UDFA QB I like is Austin Reed from Western Kentucky. It’s a homer pick for me. He played here in Pensacola at the University of Western Florida and he led UWF to win the Division II national championship.
OTC shows we’re 4.5m under the cap
Yes, but they are still not yet reflecting the contracts of Kendall Fuller, Aaron Brewer, Jordan Poyer, Robert Jones, Benito Jones, Nik Needham, Jonathan Harris, Da’Shawn Hand, Siran Neal or Jody Fortson.
I left off Shaq Barrett because he won’t be signed until after 6/1.
Austin Reed’s numbers were good at Western Kentucky also. In just 2 SEASONS he threw for 8,084 yards with 71 TD’s to 22 INT’s and rushed for 324 yards with 12 TD’s.
Austin Reed || CUSA Leading Passer || 2023 Season Highlights (youtube.com)
Small school stats mean very little, unless they have 2 of these 3, look the part, have an NFL arm or have great pocket pressence
He has those traits. Again, I am talking about bringing in as Pick #241 or as an UDFA.
Key for us this year will be to fit these new JAGs into the right situations, DL at this point looks like a platoon system
I’m thinking the same Steve. None of the guys we picked up will be handling a lot of snaps, but the DT we draft will probably play a lot. The other guys will probably rotate.
Good article Mike! I completely agree. I will say that Grier hit some really good wins with Fuller and Neal and our DB room should be solid. This will be a rough year but if Grier can start to accumulate picks again, we may win a PO game in the next few years.

LOL – I’m sure you read the Poyer blurb in this article. I swear, besides the Samurai’s you were clamoring for, you really wanted Poyer (CB) in that draft. Funny thing is I remember each and every one of us feeling so deflated after that draft. We all had favorites and none of us got any of them! lol
people are now saying that 4 of the top 6 picks will be QBs
Minnesota just acquired another 1st rounder from Houston – probably to move up and replace cousins
Probably move up and trade with Chargers. Chargers need to restock at WR and probably want more picks. Minny only has two firsts then nothing until the 4th round.
Piggy – Looking back at that 2013 Dolphins draft, that could easily have been top 3 worst Dolphins draft ever!
2013 was the year I wanted to trade down for Cordarrelle Patterson then draft TRAVIS KELCE in the 2nd round. I was told that Kelce had an attitude and wasn’t worth it. lol
Wasn’t that also the year M13 wanted Terron Armstead? I think he wanted Patterson and Armstead that year.
Yup!
We had two 1st RD picks and two 2nd RD picks. We fucked that draft so badly!
Wow!
Jeff Ireland should have been fired for that shitty draft in 2013. I could even go as far as say maybe taken out back and whipped!
Rams pick at #19. Do they go DT before us?
We need to go best player of need. If they take the DT we wanted and the IOL is there, do that. Don’t reach for a DT you don’t like.
yes Mike
I remember Poyer dropping like a rock and all of us shrugging like “why?”
thankfully Brian brought beers to ease the pain that year
YES!!
if I had my way in 2013 we would have drafted DeAndre Hopkins and Jordan Poyer
and we may have even drafted some one like Keenan Allen too
ugghhh…
I think we could have with the two 1st RD and two 2nd RD picks
I’m really surprised by the take on Berrios here. I thought the kid played really hard when he got an opportunity. He just didn’t get opportunities much. I’m not sure what folks think the 3rd or 4th option at WR….add in our RBs and a guy in that position may be the 4th/5th option. All you can do is play hard when you’re out there, and I’m told it’s hard coming in sporadically and having to perform. He could’ve done more, but it looked to me like he was busting his ass while he was out there.
I think part of the reason he didn’t get any targets was he wasn’t getting open
when he was targeting he made a lot of tough catches
I think people also expected more from him on returns – he didn’t do much
I actually called the Dion Jordan trade up and pick. I was so pissed. I remember talking with folks about it on whatever blog that was! I love doing this. I think I wanted Sheldon Richardson that year. Was it Jahn who kept telling me that Star Tuolielie? would be a great pick? I think I liked Sharif Floyd too…so much for that. Lol
Dolphins guaranteed $425,000 of Jody Fortson’s new deal. Tanner Conner is as good as gone when it comes to the cuts.
I never understood why anyone expected anything from him in the first place
he’s fast
Piggy,
Returns are a team process. There are very, very few guys who are just great return guys. If it’s not set up correctly up front, a guy’s usually going nowhere. That said, I hear ya. I just appreciate when I see a kid playing hard when he gets a shot.
Randy – I was expecting Berrios to get tons of targets and catches, figuring defenses would key on Hill and Waddle. Somehow, that never materialized. I like Berrios, but he either didn’t get open, or Tua didn’t trust him
MikeE,
Yep, I’m not banging the table for Berrios. I just think people need to be realistic about just what ANY 3rd WR/TE is gonna be able to produce in this offense. Throw in the RB, and they ain’t gonna get many targets. It’s hard to maintain focus and perform when you’re running on and off the field constantly….or so people tell me.
Tua throws a pretty fade. If he can do that to Smith 4-6 times in the end zone this year, I’ll be okay with Smith getting 30-35 catches. It’s not about the overall production for guys like that, it’s making that play or two that comes your way. Berrios couldn’t. We’ll see if Smith can.
Not sure if you caught this, but Dolphins TE’s had zero TD’s last season. I know we had a lot of rushing TD’s, but that’s still crazy
MikeE,
Yep! Hard to convince yourself to throw the ball to guys not named Hill or Waddle or hand it to guys like Achane or Mostert last year in the red zone. Again, other guys ain’t gonna get the targets.
so here is what they did with Armstead’s contract. I love seeing them throw future money away, especially two years after the player will be gone! Like Ramsey’s restructure.
https://x.com/DanielOyefusi/status/1768626486032908413?s=20
I think the fade to Hill got too obvious and the D just overplayed that and Saud beat me otherwise, and MM couldn’t feel it.
this is one of several growth areas needed for our HC this off-season along with not getting too cute too often.
Not sure what Saud sentence means? Explanation please?

I don’t know but it makes the logo pop out a little more instead of blending in.
OOH I like that!
Worst move I’ve seen in FA. Why pay a back up QB this kind of money, when your team will suck anyways? So the starter goes down and you’re afraid your season is ruined, because you don’t have an adequate backup to possibly finish 6-11 instead of 5-12?
Patriots agree to sign QB Jacoby Brissett
The deal: One year, $8 million
Grade: A
I’m not sure how the Patriots signed Brissett to this cheap of a deal. A year ago, he earned $8.5 million with the Commanders as a sought-after backup. After quarterback injuries around the league highlighted the value of a No. 2 QB in 2023, I’m fairly certain Washington could have reaped a draft pick for him in a midseason trade. Then the cap rose in 2024. And somehow all Brissett got was $8 million … again. That’s about half of what Gardner Minshew was guaranteed. And Brissett is a backup at worst with bridge starter upside. That’s just good business for the Patriots.
He will not be a backup this season
You don’t think their top pick will start?
Nice write, Mike!
Thanks Tim

The cheats Hernandez playing in the backfield was a great package, we saw something just as potent at the fest in 2021 with Cordarrelle, Deebo does it too

So, i’m kind of excited. I’ve been talking to some of my buddies for a couple years now trying to put together a dungeons and dragons game. a bunch of my buddies all made noises that they were interested, but we could never get anything going. Last night we finally got enough people to agree and we are going to generate characters tomorrow afternoon and play every other Saturday we usually all wind up at the same bar drinking on Saturdays so we figured one. It will save us money two it’ll help keep us out of the bar.
we drew Lotts to see who is going to be the dungeon master and I lost. Man I haven’t run a campaign in 36 years. I said to one of my friends man I hope I can find my books because I’ve moved them like 15 times and I’m not sure where they are now. he said he would send me a link to some that he had scanned to PDF
I got the link today and downloaded it. it was 36 GB. I’ve been looking through it, and it very well might be everything that was ever published. There are hundreds of adventure modules. Every copy of every version of every rulebook. Version one through D20 it has the players manual for dungeons and dragons, advanced dungeons and dragons, volume 1, 2, 2.1, etc. etc. every add-on and compendium even books written about how to play the game by all authors, not associated with TSR or wizards of the coast. it’s a fucking treasure trove
go ahead and call me a dork. I think you already knew anyway, 😂
I gotta study the freaking dungeon, master rules again, 😅

LOL there is a scene in Big Bang theory where the guys are playing and the girls ask what if a girl played? And they were all like we don’t know it has never happened. 😂
Anyone here think Brewer gets moved to G and we draft either JPJ or Barton to play C?
No idea! 😂
Kenny Pickett traded to Eagles
That was a quick two and done.
every time we get a Center everyone thinks he’ll be a Guard and they always play Center. Know why? They’re Centers. We needed a Center and we went and got a good young one. To play Center.
Yeah, he struggled at pass blocking. We all know Tua loves getting hit
Actually, Connor Williams was a G who we moved to C. 💥
Mike, he had Tannehill. Anyone here should know better than to think Brewer was the problem and not Tannehill.
But they said he was going to play Guard but I was the only one who believed them lol
LOL @ Son. His favorite QB. 🤣
Right Tim
I meant to say above Williams they said would play Center but no one believed them, only me
Sonny – I just don’t want to see Tua throwing under 2 seconds all the time. sometimes ya gotta make a play. He needs time to do that
It’s not like that never happened. Tua made a lot of big plays.
Yeah, Tannehill did too! 🙃

Right along with the Gobblers Club. 😂
MikeE,
The more likely scenario is drafting a young center, making him play guard and letting Brewer play center. Then, you transition your young center….if he shows he can. Center is a lot more important than guard and harder to learn.
👍
That is why I still like JPJ at #21 but also Barton. Barton started a full year at Center, then some LG and the last 2 years at LT.

MF13,
the trade back scenario is VERY enticing if it gets a 3rd. One of top two Centers would surely still be available. But WHO behind us has such a big need that they’d feel the need to jump 8-10 spots? I haven’t looked at those teams’ draft capital to see who might have picks to spare in such a move up…
————-
If a perceived STUD (contingent upon another team’s Draft board) falls out of the top-20 and into our laps @ R1P21, there is great potential that we’ll get calls from that team (or teams, note the plural) wanting to trade up for said STUD.
We would hope that one of the 11 picks after us would want said STUD. It’s not so much about us targeting a team to trade down with, rather one of those remaining teams in the 1st round targeting said STUD (or STUDS if more than one falls to us) to trade up with us @ R1P21.
And it isn’t strictly about a “big need”… sometimes a team will have a grade on a player FAR higher than most, making said player the best on their Draft board of available players.
Good hypothetical example: let’s say the Lions’ biggest need is EDGE @ R1P29, but all of their 1st round graded EDGEs are gone. Somehow CB Nate Wiggins slides to us @ R1P21, and the Lions have a top-10 1st round grade on him… and he’d be a CLEAR upgrade for the Lions’ secondary. Ya don’t/shouldn’t reach for the next best EDGE who ya have a mid-2nd round grade on, when Wiggins (a top-10 pick on your board) is available to trade up for.
YES, I’m talking about a Draft Day tradedown… not before. We’ll see how it plays out!
Not always about a stud, some teams like some prospects more or have different needs than us.
Mike E,
Good write, pal!
Question: why aren’t you giving a vote of confidence to Da’Shawn Hand? 🙂
Also, you managed to not mention Tua even once in this write! LOL

————–
You aren’t wrong, bud, but if said STUD isn’t a position of need for us, why not gain our 3rd rounder (or possibly better) back by trading down a lil’ bit, right?
There is a risk/reward involved, of course. Don’t want to trade down too far so as to lose a or ALL of a primary target (O-Line or DT).
Like I stated, in my scenario, it would be a Draft Day decision as we see everything unfold in real time. If it’s not looking good, stick to R1P21. If it’s looking good, it’s a strong consideration… should get an offer(s).
You don’t trade down if a prospect (s) you’re high on are going to be there.
THIS IS CORRECT. I’m not trying to say otherwise.
Honestly, I’m not sure I’d trade down any further than 3 spots to the Cowboys. However, if a trade offer comes up that one cannot refuse, all bets are off.
And as we all know, it’s CRAZY what some teams will do to get a perceived franchise QB.
I was just stating my view generally, not directed at you. 🙂

Thank you for saying that, my guy! I appreciate that… especially after the day I had. Man…
And I DO agree with your point of view, Tim: BPA at position of need, unless reaching. Follow your board, but don’t draft somebody ya don’t need (AKA: drafting a 1st round QB when Dan Marino in his prime is already in the fold).
Right. Common sense.

@thephinsider
According to @PER4ORM, Tua Tagovailoa will shed weight this offseason while focusing on “speed and agility”
https://www.thephinsider.com/2024/3/15/24102522/report-tua-tagovailoa-to-shed-weight-while-working-on-speed-and-agility-this-offseason
I’m not really sure weight is his issue.
Getting to the 2nd, 3rd, even 4th options with TIME is his next phase of development, imo. Can he “see” the next read (second or more) before the snap? And/or will he have time to get to it?
Apparently Tua thinks it was an issue. But, yeah, I agree, he needs to read more. That is why berrios didn’t get more targets IMO. Many times he would try to squeeze it in to Hill but if he would have looked at option 2 or 3 they were wide open.

Yeah, he converted from WR. Another one who I may mock to us next year that is like Fortson is Orande Gasden II, 6’5 223. He switched to TE from WR last year but got injured.

AGREE and saw that so many times! It was obvious and I’m not nearly as good at seeing the field as most of you. He forced it a lot.
IOL AARON BREWER SIGNS WITH MIAMI DOLPHINS
Brewer is a perfect fit in Miami’s run scheme and carries added value since he could replace free-agent center Connor Williams, who may still re-sign in Miami, or guard Robert Hunt, who signed a colossal deal with the Carolina Panthers. Mike McDaniel can protect him as a pass protector, and he’s great at getting out to the second level in a hurry.
LB JORDYN BROOKS SIGNS WITH MIAMI DOLPHINS
Miami moved on from Jerome Baker last week, one of the more surprising cuts of the offseason, even with the context of where Miami’s finances stood, but quickly replace him with another capable linebacker over the middle. Brooks recovered extremely quickly from a torn ACL to make it back in time for Week 1 of 2023, and he could be even more confident cutting and changing direction in 2024 and beyond.
CB KENDALL FULLER
This is a remarkably good value for Miami, even considering Fuller’s age. The ninth-year pro has played over 1,000 snaps in three straight seasons and is just a few months older than Chidobe Awuzie, who signed a three-year, $36 million deal with the Tennessee Titans after tearing his ACL in 2022. Fuller is a versatile defensive back who has experience playing all over the secondary, as well.
Not sure what they did with Armstead’s contract. I know they redid it and turned most of his guaranteed money this year into bonuses to spread out the next couple years. Though, on Spotrac, when you click on the release/trade tab for 2025, it shows a 0 dead cap for 2025 and 2026 clearing his entire 22.1 mil cap. That has to be a mistake.
Right now, it shows we have 40 mil in cap for 2025 but does not yet reflect contracts on Fuller and Brewer. Then there will be Tua’s extension.
Certainly we will have some dead cap on Armstead next year you would think. Regardless, a post 6/1 release next year will clear more cap.

Barton went before #21. I felt we need a replacement for Armstead so went with a solid LT prospect. Cohen is a solid LG prospect starting there the last 3 years at the “U”. OT Nathan Thomas is also a LT but feel he could be a stud OG in the NFL.
Hopefully the Jets will feel our pain at LT this year.
Jets new LT Tyron Smith has not played a full season since 2015 and his 13 games played in 2023 were his most games played since 2019.
nice write up Mike. I’m upset about losing those guys but every team losss their good players. That’s nfl. It’s up to the coaches and the GM to fix that. I’m not as pessimistic about our season yet. Ultimately it’s gonna come down to Tua and whether he can play bette against good teams. Is he gonna be able to adjust when his first and 2nd read aren’t there. Maybe he can make some plays with his feet outside the pocket like Maholms, and Jackson. IMO is gonna come down to Tua and MMs offense
I am confident we will put up a lot of points.
My biggest concern is the DL and being able to stop the run. If teams run the ball well, it will keep our offense off the field.
If our offense can get better in the red zone, we will lead the league in scoring.

why is he falling?
He had a bad Combine. All eyes will be on his Pro Day now.
It wasn’t all about 2nd and 3rd reads with Tua, other receivers weren’t getting open. There was an article about that a week or so ago that Berrios and Wilson weren’t getting any separation.
Berrios and Wilson weren’t open in single coverage so he forces it into triple coverage to Tyreek…
Nah, he wasn’t looking past 2nd read, many times 1st read.
But you’re ignoring that our offense operates fast. How do you take the snap, setup and read three routes in 2 seconds?
That’s the bread and butter of our passing game. But it’s not like we never had deeper drops and Tua surveying the field. It’s always about execution and sometimes the defense plays it well. This offense is still being built.
why are they resigning Berrios so that doesn’t make sense
Miami Hurricanes Pro Day (Kam Kinchens) is at 2 p.m. Monday, March 18. I’ll be at work, but my eyes will be looking for the results as soon as I can.
Oh, yeah…
BALL HAWK!!!
He’s tanking so he can be selected by the Dolphins…
😀
^ to BB Mike, suggesting Kam Kinchens is tanking to be selected by our Phins!
That will work
Don’t get me wrong, that’s a stellar signing for a quick twitch cat on the relative cheap. Thus, it’s NICE.
That’s why I said, “That will work”
He’s a solid return guy, doesn’t screw up. But I thought he’d do more as a receiver last year. Maybe with Smith and Ezukanma we spread defenses thinner.
Some of us are saying that Tua was not looking past his second read sometimes 1st read. I wonder if that had more to do with they way teams were defending us in the first half of the season vs the second half of the season. Also, coupled with the fact in the second half of the season Tua didn’t trust the patchwork OL to hold on to the ball and work his progressions.
First half of the season Berrios was targeted 25 times and caught 20 with 1 TD. The last 8 games Berrios was only targeted 8 times and caught 7 and 0 TD.
Though, with Cedric Wilson, his targets were pretty even split between 1st and 2nd half of the season.
It could be Wilson got more game time in the second half of the season.
I don’t know.
All of the above. See my reply to you above.
I agree. It will be different with Jannu added to the mix.
M13, Kam Kinchens is from Miami and went to “The U” so.
maybe you guys have posted the notes from Tua’s trainer Nick that Tua this winter is working on slimming and speed and quickness drills.
He’s also working with a QB coach which is something he’s never done before.
@AdamSchefter
Seahawks are signing former Dolphins linebacker Jerome Baker to a one-year, $7 million contract. The deal was confirmed by Baker’s agents Drew and Jason Rosenhaus.
Good for Jerome, he’s a class act and a good player. Sometimes everyone moves on and needs a new start.
I’m not sure we’ll be looking DB early in the draft. The secondary looks really good on paper right now.
My thinking also, but Poyer is a stop gap though. If they go DB early, it will be a safety in the 2nd.
That is why I keep mocking one to us in the 5th round. There are 2 guys I really like that might be available in that spot.
Kitan Oladapo, Oregon State, 6’2 216
Malik Mustapha, Wake Forest, 5’10 209
Poyer brings that savvy vet leadership. He’ll likely start but probably won’t play a high percentage of snaps. Maybe 60%. I think he’ll get subbed but play on crucial downs.
I like Mustapha the most. He needs to improve in coverage but he is considered an athletic freak. Plays downhill. Runs about a 4.33,
Jannu Smith had 50 receptions for 582 yards with 3 TD’s and only played 58% of offensive snaps.
Justin Fields traded to the Steelers
Confirmed… WOW!!!
A mere conditional 6th rounder? That could, AT BEST, turn into a 4th rounder???
The Stealers* just FLEECED Da Bears!
yup. I wish Grier would fleece another team every once in a while.
+1000000000000000000000000000, Brian!
My first official mock draft for our Phins in the 2024 NFL Draft (non-tradedown)
R1P21: Jackson Powers-Johnson, IOL, Oregon, OR Graham Barton, OT/IOL, Duke
R2P55: Braden Fiske, DI, FSU, OR Kris Jenkins, DI, Michigan
R5P158: Joe Milton, QB, Tennessee
R6P184: TBD
R6P198: TBD
R7P241: TBD
I have a very bad feeling that both Fiske and Jenkins will be off the board when we select @ R2P55. 3rd option? KAM KINCHENS, S, MIAMI.
I read an article today that Kinchens is dropping down the draft boards based on his combine and senior bowl performances
I think Jenkins has a better chance of being there than Fiske. That said I like Jenkins also.
Not so sure about Joe Milton in the 5th. The dude has a cannon but does have accuracy issues on the shorter throws.
Absolutely correct. My thought is that with training and over time, he could become very good with his accuracy issues.
Milton is certainly NOT somebody who can come in and start off the bench today… but he might be worth taking a flier on in the 5th round. JMO
how can Fields only get a 6th round pick
wtf is wrong with the bears
that a horrible trade
DAMN!!! I would have traded Mike White and our 6th for Fields. WTF!
A 2025 pick at that!!
Well, there’s this:
@statmusenfl
Only two QBs have 100 or more interceptions + sacks taken over the last two seasons. Now, both of them play for the Steelers.
Steelers have at QB, Russell Wilson and Justin Fields at a cost of 4.44 mil this year.
Pretty good vet/young situation at QB for them. We’ll see how it pans out.
Didn’t we fleece the Texans with Tunsil?
I said once in a while Tim, not once
Kris Jenkins is a lot like Byron Murphy II in body type and style of play. Murphy is projected to go bottom of 1st to top of 2nd.
My top five DT’s are:
Byron Murphy
Johnny Newton
Braden Fiske
Kris Jenkins
Ruke Orhorhoro
I would take any of them in the 2nd round.
Maybe Justin Eboigbe later in 2nd or early 3rd with a trade down.
Any thoughts on Jer’Zhan Newton?
For Tim and other shark lovers out there…
We knew about bull sharks being part of the premise of “Jaws”, but I had NO idea that there’s evidence of bull sharks having been in the Great Lakes or IOWA!
https://www.youtube.com/shorts/SR31Z4oTk-w
Lots of bull sharks in the Sebastian River near the train bridge
I don’t plan on fishing too close to that bridge in my kayak
Serious thought/question… is there really a place for NTs in the pass-happy NFL any longer, or are they going the way of the FB position?
It’s never a bad thing to have a stout middle man, but in today’s game depth is more important because it’s more about speed than power. Just the way it is. You can’t get worn down having the same guys on the field 90% of the time.
Jimmy Johnson believed in an 8 man rotation on his DL and that was basically 30 years ago. That still holds true if you have it.
IDK about fleeced. Fields sucks. He has a good game every now and then, that’s it.
I think MM set Tua back last year, by having him bulk up
When healthy in 2023 he was mostly unstoppable
Why was Berrios brought back? Could be he was open often, but didn’t get enough passes thrown his way. With a more agile Tua we could see a better year 2 or Jonnu and Fortson will get his slot snaps
Seems we have some backup plans for players, that don’t get it done
Not the biggest shark but the most dangerous.

There was a 17yo girl who lost her leg 2 years ago to a 8-9 ft Bull Shark attack in the exact same spot we go scalloping. It actually happened 3 days after we left from our trip. It was in about 5 ft of water.
31.
Byron Murphy IIDT Texas

Braden FiskeDT Florida State

Erick AllTE Iowa
184.
Deantre PrinceCB Ole Miss

Joe MiltonQB Tennessee
traded back and still got Murphy
We would have a very solid D with that one Piggy!
Just wondering why you always mock a TE to us? Especially when we have 5 on the roster now.
Not that big a fan of Erick All after he ran a 4.80 forty.
Piggy, if you want to draft a TE in the 5th and Theo Johnson isn’t there this is the guy I like and I think he has the potential to be a good all round TE. He might even be available in the 6th but I think that would push it. He is still under the radar right now. I think because he doesn’t have big receiving numbers. He is huge and blocks well. He is almost a freak of sorts. He’s like having an extra OL out there.
TE Tip Reiman, Illinois, 6’5 271 POUNDS, ran a 4.64 forty at his size! He also tied for the fastest split for TE’s at 1.55 sec and put 28 reps on the bench.
So we signed CB Kendall Fuller, and the Commanders said OK, you signed our guy, we’re gonna sign your guy, CB Noah Igbinoghne
the commanders haven’t really mastered giving it right back…
Either have we. We’ll see if Jordyn Brooks is better than Jerome Baker. Hope so!
It’s looking like we’re going to have a rotation on the D-line, but I think we still need a RDE. I don’t care if you have 3 guys rotating at RE, one of ’em better be better than what we got!
For some reason, Jerome Baker was never really appreciated here. Not sure why, I always liked him. Like Randy said, he’s really a weak side OLB, 4-3 guy. He did whatever we asked though, and he always gave max effort. I wish him the best in Seattle
