Like any NFL Free Agency period, there are gains and losses. To start off our Free Agency we took two major losses, despite the die hard Dolphins who keep their chins up and confidence in Grier even higher. I’ve said it, not going to dwell on it, but losing Christian Wilkins was a major failure. Besides, some of you are oohing and aahing at every free agent we sign, because they played in the NFL last season. Did you think we were going to bring in ballerinas? We’ve already brought in 3 DT’s and if I told you last season that any of the 3, Neville Gallimore, Jonathan Harris or Benito Jones was going to replace Christian Wilkins, you’d probably lose your mind. These guys are depth guys, not starters, which leads to me believe that our first pick is looking a lot like it’s going to be DT. None of the DT’s are even in the stratosphere of Christian Wilkins and while Wilkins played 894 snaps last season, Benito Jones played 567, Jonathan Harris 529 and Neville Gallimore 288. We also brought back former Dolphins DT Da’Shawn Hand. Like I said, all depth guys, so you could just about pencil in DT. Then again, the only OL we brought in was former Titans C Aaron Brewer who struggles in the pass blocking department, so I suppose JPJ (Jackson Powers-Johnson) still remains a possibility.
On the positive side, the Dolphins signed Free Agent CB Kendall Fuller from the Washington Commanders. Fuller was a 3rd RD pick by the Redskins in 2016. He’s a legit starting corner, so the void left by the departure of CB Xavien Howard has been filled, and Howard’s proclamation that “the door is closed” is probably accurate from both sides now. CB Cam Smith may still end up being a factor at some point, but we don’t need to foolishly rely on the 2nd year player who couldn’t get on the field while DC Vic Fangio was here. We also have CB Kader Kohou and we recently re-signed one of my faves Nik Needham. We’re looking pretty solid all of a sudden at CB.
At safety, we recently signed former Bills standout S Jordan Poyer. I still recall our favorite Pig begging the Dolphins to draft Poyer so many years ago, actually, it was 11 years ago, and unfortunately, he’s not the same player. I still like the signing, but he will be 33 at season’s start. S DeShon Elliott is now gone, he signed with the Steelers. We also signed ST’s gunner Siran Neal from the Bills, and that one is a big gain for us, and big loss for the Bills. S Brandon Jones also left the Dolphins and now will be playing in Mile High for the Broncos. We signed ILB Jordyn Brooks, formerly of the Seattle Seahawks to replace Jerome Baker. The Dolphins desperate for help at OLB signed long time veteran Shaq Barrett formerly of the Buccaneers. Barrett is now 31, but until either or both of Jaelan Phillips and Bradley Chubb are healthy, we’re going to need pass rushers. That brings me to the sad news of losing OLB Andrew Van Ginkel. AVG will now be toiling in Minnesota for the Vikings and DC Brian Flores. Honestly, I think he looks good as a Viking, but man I’ll miss him. NT Raekwon Davis is also gone now signing a modest contract with the Indianapolis Colts.
Our offense potentially got a nice jolt with the signing of FA TE Jonnu Smith. Smith had his best season last year in Atlanta with 50 catches for 582 yards with a nice 11.6 YPR and 3 TD’s. BTW, the 3 TD’s Jonnu Smith caught last season is 3 more TD’s than the entire Dolphins TE depth chart. That’s disturbing! Slot receiver Hunter Renfro formerly of the Las Vegas Raiders was released by said team and he could be a possibility here in Miami. While Jonnu Smith showed excellent run after catch abilities, Renfrow knows how to get open. 2nd year WR Erik Ezukanma will get a chance, but I wouldn’t be adverse to bringing in Renfro. I expected a lot more from Braxton Berrios last season.
As we head into the draft with a modest arsenal of draft picks, we must hit on some if not all of our picks. It’s imperative we find starters that contribute day one with our first 2 picks for sure. With the departures of DT Christian Wilkins and OG Robert Hunt, it’s safe to think the first 2 picks, #21 and #55, unless we move back, or up, are used on the trenches, O-line and D-line. Jackson Powers-Johnson, Graham Barton and Cooper Beebe are potential OC’s or OG’s that could be in play. On the D-line, T’Vondre Sweat and Byron Murphy are early pick DT candidates. It’s not impossible we go with an OLB like Penn State LB Chop Robinson. Other DT’s that may get consideration are Jer’Zhan Newton and Braden Fiske, both athletic, active, disruptive defenders. I’m hoping we hit on this, it’s quite necessary.
GO DOLPHINS!!!

BBMike
I always draft a TE bc I’m trying to guess what the Dolphins will do and I don’t actually know…lol
but MM did say near the end of last season that TE was the next step this offense had to take
and when teams were slowing us down late last season I think defenses were being physical with our WRs and then crowding the middle of the field
so it kind of makes sense to use the TE to break that down
also we didn’t have a legit 3rd option to throw to
most of the passing offense ran through Hill and Waddle
and I just think that’s too easy to defend for good defenses
maybe some on the roster becomes a left 3 receiver
but until we have that guy, I keep adding them
100% makes sense.
What did you think of TE Tip Reiman as a 6th round pick?
I really like Theo Johnson but he won’t last to the 5th especially after his combine.
getting our hopes up
That would be something. Also have to hope for no setbacks. My guess is they both miss a couple of games at least.
I agree. This staff likes to wait until they are 100% sure the players are 100%.
Phillips is probably in better position that Chubb at the moment
I’m sure edge is on the table for us at 21
People have mentioned Chop Robinson before here
but there is a good chance Laiatu Latu falls to us – and he looks like the next TJ Watt
probably the most immediately impactful pick we can make is an edge guy
but we also need other spots
I think Latu might be more pro ready than the other edge guys
which might be ideal for us while waiting for the Chubb/phillips Duo
TBH, nothing will surprise me at #21.
Piggy – Nothing wrong with having a young OLB pass rusher along with Phillips and Chubb. You can almost guarantee that he will have plenty of playing time until either or both are healthy, and then you can ease those guys in w/o feeling penalized. I can see us grabbing one of the guys you mentioned, whoever is the best player that fits our needs. We do have still have a lot of needs. D-line, O-line, S, OLB, CB, WR.
We also have the 2025 draft to help us too, where we have all our regular picks from RD 1-4, and then two 5th, one 6th, and two 7th Rd picks.
Plus, likely two 3rd round comp picks.
Berrios resigning, beyond value, probably has more to do with his already knowing the offense (versus someone else who would have had to replace him).
The offense is in a better spot to pick up where they left off with only a TE (and maybe a rookie OL) having to learn the system.
Everyone on Def has to learn a new system so turnover there shoudn’t impact learning curve.
Still a whole lot to worry about on offense, specifically the O-line. Armstead is a huge question mark, Robert Jones is too but to a lesser degree. Better hope Brewer’s issue was Tannehill like Sonny states and not the fact that he can’t pass block. Is Eichenberg going to play one of the OG spots? It’s pretty sketchy at the moment, although you’d expect some help from the draft, but that’s always a crap shoot, even with one of the better prospects like JPJ, Barton or Beebe.
I hate we lost Wilkins and Hunt but in the end they got overpaid. No sense in harping what coulda shoulda been done last year.
Like or hate Grier, he has put us ALMOST in position to draft BPA at #21 and did it with no cap. The OL and DL are still a little “light” in talent (OL a little more IMO) and still has me leaning that way. OLB is only light because of players rehabbing (wondering what the status on Goode is also). We will have Shaq Barrett as a stop gap.
However, we will have Phillips coming up on his 5th year option in 2025 and will need to work an extension. We do have Chubb under contract through 2027 but at a 26.5 mil cap hit each of those years (26.9 mil in 2027).
We do have an out clause on Chubb after the 2024 season with not a lot of dead cap. He could be a cap casualty next year as the cap will be tight when the contracts of Kendall Fuller, Aaron Brewer and the Tua extension hit. Right now, we have 39.1 mil in cap for 2025 with only 30 players under contract for 2025 without those 3 contracts reflecting yet.
A pre 6/1 release of Chubb in 2025 would clear 10.2 mil in cap with 16.3 mil in dead cap in 2025 and no future dead cap. A post 6/1 designated release in 2025 would clear 20.2 mil in cap with 6.3 mil dead cap in 2025 and 10 mil dead cap in 2026.
Question is, will Chubb, post injury, be worth close to about what Wilkins is getting paid? This is Chubb’s second ACL injury/surgery/rehab, first the left knee and now right knee. Chubb is still relatively young, 28 at the start of this season. But will he be worth 26.5 mil and 26.9 mil in 2026 and 2027 when he is 30yo and 31yo post 2 ACL surgeries?
With all this said, OLB/EDGE could very well be in the mix at #21.
Good call, Piggy.
A “little” light on the O-line and D-line? Besides Seiler there’s just depth starting on the D-line now. It stays that way, expect a quiet year from Sieler and our defense to struggle big time.
I have confidence in Benito Jones. He was solid as a starter for the Lion last year.
Jonathan Harris from Broncos was a good signing. 17 game starter last season.
In 2023, the six-foot-five, 296-pound DL had a career year starting in five games and accounted for 43 combined tackles, four QB hits, and one sack in 529 defensive snaps.
Not Wilkins production but still pretty good
Jones has only been in the league 3 years. This will be his 4th.
Also, like Ken said, Jonathan Harris was solid last year also. I see more of a rotation this year keeping guys fresh. Not guys like Wilkins and Seiler playing 90+% of snaps every game.
Don’t get me wrong. I don’t feel all comfortable with the OL and DL. Just that both are not as bad as what we started with and both need additions.
Eich, Jones and Cotton played a lot of snaps last year and have starting experience. They also have the experience in this offense.
Say Benito Jones takes the NT spot where Raekwon Davis used to play, I feel like Gallimore and Pili are depth there. If we have Jonathan Harris, who started 5 games by the way, starting at RDE, expect Sieler to drop big time production wise. I’d also expect our pass rush, coming from the D-line to be somewhat anemic
True, not saying there will be some fall off. There will be and I am concerned.
What do y’all think about the Chubb situation above? Think they part ways next year? If they go OLB/Edge at #21, I think the writing is on the wall.
It depends on what kind of impact Chubb has this season. If he plays like he did in the 2nd half of the season, no reason to let him go unless you know for sure the guy you drafted to replace him is ready for prime time, and you can get something valuable for Chubb.
He would cost a trade partner about 19.4 mil per year so it may be possible to find someone who wants him for that. Dead cap hits for us would be the same whether released or traded.
Usually those type trades to clear cap end up not getting high compensation. Maybe a 3rd or 4th.
BBMike – While I’m not terribly worried if Cotton and Jones are our starting OG’s, these are the same guys that the Tua defenders complained about all season long as not being good enough at giving Tua time to throw.
I know. Dammit, I feel the dark side calling. LOL
Which is why I feel, and even the Tua defenders know deep down in their heart that practically everything needs to be perfect for Tua to succeed. He’s not a game changer, a “I’ll put the team on my back and win the game for us” type of guy. If everything is going well, he can do well, if not, expect him to go as the rest of the team goes.
Berrios was the 12th highest pint returner last year so at least we have that covered.
Did he win any chugging contests?
Yuck!!! Tired of reading about his off the field nonsense!
lol, what a moron. Why on earth would she sign that?
I love his play on the field, and appreciate that, but he’s a putz. I’m really glad I didn’t get his jersey, and his off-field behavior was the reason why I decided against it. He’s a never ending drama queen. We’ve been lucky so far it’s been petty stuff and it hasn’t cost us any games.
BBMike – If all those people are happy about a 3rd for Wilkins, they’d be ecstatic about a 3rd for Chubb. lol
lol
I have a hard time seeing Chubb being fully ready by September; I could believe it about Phillips. If they are both ready, that would be huge, but I’ll believe it when I see it.
I would be real concerned they are rushing Chubb back if he is ready day 1
Mike, I don’t think it was anyone specific on the OL that was a big problem, but that we had a constant revolving door every week with a different group starting. There was no continuity.
@NFL_DovKleiman
#Browns have agreed to terms with former #Ravens QB Tyler Huntley, per
@MaryKayCabot
——————-
They already have Deshaun Watson, Jamis Winston and Dorian Thompson-Robinson at QB. I know teams like to carry 4 into TC but what was the “real” reason to sign Huntley. lol
Five teams besides the #Steelers reached out to the #Bears to trade for Justin Fields.
That was the best offer they could get?
Tim – no offense, but I feel like unless our O-line plays like all pros, they will be the excuse if we struggle on offense, even if they play average or slightly better than average
It wasn’t just the OL when we struggled on offense. There are times when skill guys don’t play particularly well including Tua, Hill, Waddle, Mostert etc. Sometimes the opposing defense plays a good game too. But it’s not ideal to have 10 different OL starting, you can only be so deep and maintain good chemistry.
BBMike – was watching ESPN this morning, Bears promised Fields that they would do their best to get him to a team as quickly as possible to allow him time to get into a new system. Maybe a similar thing like we promised Wilkins we wouldn’t tag him
The excuses will change year after year until a new QB is here. I get it, I was there once too. I am not anymore, I’ve seen enough.
I actually want to see one more year of Tua. I want to see him play like he did before last season. I want to see him move outside the pocket, extend plays, run if there’s room, and be more aggressive physically. not be careless, just no bubble wrap football. I want to see if he can help us more than he does now, and I want to see if he can get through an entire season playing like that, and hopefully winning games against winning teams.
I am not rooting against him by any means. I, like the rest of us would love nothing more than to see him take that next step. I just don’t see it happening. The ones that have it, show it early. Then they refine and improve their game and become great. I really hope I’m wrong, but I think this is it for him. He’s good, but in this league now you need better than that at QB to compete and win.
Tim,
Thanks for replying to my NT question yesterday… and you were the only who did reply. My basis for asking the question was get the temperature of drafting NT T’Vondre Sweat, Texas, in the 2nd round. He’s 366 pounds worth of NT, but I feel he won’t be seeing the field but for early downs and obviously short yardage running sits.
That being stated, I’m not sure I can bring myself to use a 2nd rounder on any NT… they just don’t see the field enough to warrant a 2nd rounder. JMO
When I say NT, I’m talking about a body-eating, double-team making, 320+ pounder.
My pleasure!
The issue with NT is kind of like the FB position. Teams play so much 11 personnel that they’re not in the game enough to use premium draft picks or resources on unless they’re so good that they’re 3 down players.
I think you’d like to find a big boy NT in the mid or late rounds or even as a UDFA just to have that on your roster for specific teams or situations.
And I thank YOU! I completely agree with your take. In recent years, I’ve been trying to add a NT on late day 3.
Last year, for instance, I wanted us to draft R6P20 (197): J Clark, NT, Coastal Carolina.
Our new center Aaron Brewer seems like a perfect fit for our offense. We use a lot of movement and our OL move a lot. They don’t play static waiting for the defense like some systems do. Brewer is very athletic.
While this IS true, Brewer is also a liability as a pass-blocker.
I don’t think he will be in our system. Totally different blocking scheme.
I hope your correct, Bro. I can understand why you’d say that… and you may be right.
*you’re
People always talk about the center playing straight up against a NT. It rarely happens. Mostly a double team or a chip and move. How did Kevin Mawae have so many classic battles against Zach Thomas if he was blocking Timbo?
I think that’s a great example, albeit it was from many years ago. I’ll add another (from many years ago): the great Ray Lewis had some problems until his Ravens added Haloti Ngata.
Adding a legit NT makes life so much easier for a LB to do his job on every level… or so, that used to be the case.
As is the case in my original question: is the NT going the way of the FB position in this faster-paced, pass-happy league?
I cannot draft a NT early in today’s game, unless your name is Dontari Poe as a rookie.
I’d rather have an ELITE DT (see Aaron Donald or Christian Wilkins) to stop the run, instead of a beefy NT who is — generally speaking — only good for run-Defense.
Herd – If you’re around, I’m talking to OD on the phone right now trying to get him on the site. Do you recall what email he used and possibly his password as well?
GRAND to hear, Mike E! Tell Mr. Campbell that I miss his presence here!
If you want to give me a hand, if you’re able, I need to find the last blog that OD commented on to see what email he used. Can you try and find it?
@flasportsbuzz
Dolphins have been poking around on more receivers to fill out their rotation. Among the names they’ve inquired about, per source: Quez Watkins, who caught 98 for 1249 and 6 TDs for Eagles over past 4 years. I’m sure there are others too. Not sure who they’ll add but more to come
Cap hell is really just something you say. 🤔
While looking for OD’s last comment, I found this prolific gem!

The AFC seeding thing is another reason why we need to beat good teams. Jaguars jump ahead of us because of they beat good teams, we don’t. Y’all can keep saying it doesn’t mean anything, but it does in more ways than one. You want to beat some good teams during the season so when you play good teams in the playoffs, you feel confident that you belong. Trust me, if we lose to every good team and still make the playoffs, we’ll be an early exit.
Another one!

We’re in first place because all of a sudden everyone in our division sucks, unless the Bills get back on track tonight. I want our team to be feared, I want to look like the best team in the AFC, not just make the playoffs. I’m glad we’re in 1st, but that won’t mean an awful lot if we continue to struggle against good teams.
Wow! This one stings, especially because it’s true!

Ken – you seem to think it’s a 10 year plan. We have a small window with the horses we have now. We could regress next season if we can’t re-sign Wilkins, and some other players. Is it wrong to want to be great? Fuck that!! Every year there are teams that just stampede the league, I want to be that team. Who knows what happens next season?
I want to be the team that is there every year
Me too, but don’t bet on it this year
According to this, we’re in last place in terms of cap space, but we’re $3.41 UNDER the cap.
Yes, but it also doesn’t tell you it still doesn’t reflect the contracts of Kendall Fuller, Aaron Brewer and 7 others we have signed or made agreements with: Kendall Fuller, Aaron Brewer, Jordan Poyer, Braxton Berrios, Jonathan Harris, Benito Jones, Da’Sahwn Hand, Siran Neal and Jody Fortson.
Then there will be the contract of Shaq Barrett on 6/1 but that is also when we get 18.5 mil cleared on the 6/1 release of X.
Makes me wonder if they are waiting on the official signings on some of these players until 6/1. I don’t know.
Mike E – sent you an email with OD info.
Thanks Jeff!
Actually, I don’t see it
Ah, sent it to my old email.
Still worrying about the cap are we? Let’s just watch The View! 😂
One of NFL Networks “mocks” had Brock Bowers dropping to 21 and Miami taking him. LOL
It won’t happen, BUT, if it did, (and despite all the TEs we signed), would we abandon all that and draft Bowers (instead of DL and OL)? Just curious ….
Absolutely, and he’d make other O players better, because of the attention he’ll command. See my BPA post below
MikeE,
regarding Berrios signing … I agree that the offense has other work to do (OL), but since we needed a slot, I see Berrios as “one less thing to deal with” going forward. All focus on offensive side going forward is OL.
Wilkins 9 sacks can be attributed to the scheme, both he and Seiler are very good players, that benefitted
Flores’ scheme on the other hand undermined their sacks, but raised Wilkins’ tackles
Jim Nagy
@JimNagy_SB
If you want a one-rep clip of what NFL teams value most these days, aside from QB, here it is. Just look at who got paid 𝙥𝙖𝙞𝙙 last week in FA (C. Jones, C. Wilkins, J. Madubuike)…it was disruptive IDL. Remember the name of Ohio State 3-tech Michael Hall Jr. as we approach April’s draft. You’ll see other bigger names at DT like Johnny Newton and Byron Murphy in mock drafts but trust me, this is the most athletic-looking take-off in this year’s DT class. Not to mention the overwhelming explosion.
@MichaelHallJr_puts likely first-rounder Jackson Powers-Johnson on skates here and NFL scouts will tell you there have been games over past couple years where Hall Jr. has been best player on field for OSU’s defense. NFL D-line coaches will be pounding table for Hall in draft meetings next month because they know he has stuff they can’t coach. Not seeing Hall Jr. on many “Top-100” lists right now but league is usually higher than media on DTs with his tools & high ceiling. #BestoftheBest l #TheDraftStartsInMOBILE
I don’t care what position we draft at 21, get the best player on the board, we’ve seen too many times over our history reaches don’t pan out
Berrios brings a pro bowl weapon to Tua. WTF kind of a bs headline that is, he was a pro bowl returner
Anyways, Berrios is cheap and can handle returns, plus give something to the O
Saw FAU made the dance last night, was wondering about OD, then I read some posts this morning…
Look forward to seeing him and everyone else at the fest
Will be going to training camp again this year, to get tickets just get the app and request them as soon as they’re available
Anyone interested in going to camp?
On OL we’re set at 3 positions, with OG still a work in progress
Tua’s vow to shed weight and be more mobile should help the OL tremendously
Eichenberg is a decent RG, with Jones and Cotton we can field a starting LG, still need more
Wynn is still out there too, injured against Philly last year, not sure about his status week 1
I’m sure between the draft and the rest of FA we’ll add a starting type OG
You really think we are “set” at LT?
Miami Dolphins
SIGNINGS
There’s our LG
🍻
this stupid format here that causes me to post it five times before it actually posts cost me that
@adamschefter
Dolphins are re-signing free-agent OL Isaiah Wynn to a one-year deal, according his agents Drew Rosenhaus and Shawn O’Dare.
I get a beer!!!!
see above
lol
Let’s just hope he stays healthy now
yeah- could be for depth too if we draft someone @21
did anyone else read that Tyreek report about him threatening his wife? I wonder if it’s time to move on from him before he does something really stupid
The only way to do it now would be to do a post 6/1 trade:
POST-6/1 TRADE 2024 Dead Cap: $11,308,750; 2025 Dead Cap: $22,617,500; 2024 Cap Savings: $20,015,000; 2025 Cap Savings: $11,626,250
We have an out clause for 2025 that would do this:
PRE-6/1 RELEASE 2025 Dead Cap: $22,617,500; 2025 Cap Savings: $11,626,250
POST-6/1 RELEASE 2025 Dead Cap: $11,308,750; 2026 Dead Cap: $11,308,750; 2025 Cap Savings: $22,935,000; 2026 Cap Savings: $45,000,000
A 2025 trade would produce the same #’s.
That said there is no way we part ways. He is still the focal point of the offense, IMO. They need to have a plan next year though. Tyreek said he was done after 2025 anyway.
Just another 1yr deal so we STILL need to draft for the future at LT and IOL.
Question: Eich got a lot better from 2022 to 2023. Jones proved to be a valuable backup and gave us some good starts. Both are still young and both entering their 4th season. Does anyone think they improve on last year?
I bet one of them wins the starting RG position and plays well.
Ken, it was just a bad Quad injury that put Wynn on IR. He should be fine.
He has had injury issues in the past but I agree this last injury should not be a long term issue
This team isn’t going anywhere with an OL like this. Our backups played OK last year. Tua actually did help them with getting the ball out, but I think he gave up on plays too soon. Wynn has had injury issues forever. Will he actually play all season? Eich struggled probably as much or more than any OL last year. He’s going to get his ass whooped at guard again. He plays with very little power. Jackson doesn’t play as well without Hunt there to allow him to focus on the perimeter. Williams may or may not play? Armstead is a wrong step away from retiring….then who? Yeah, that’s a winning combination.
Not what the song is about but just had a flash of some EMINEM lyrics pop into my head after reading this.
“Snap back to reality, ope there goes gravity,”
lol
DAMN!! Every time I try to get positive, MikeE and Randy try to pull me into the dark side.
Where’s Yoda Tim when you need him???
lol
I think our 2024 draft needs to focus on OL and DL this draft. At least first 2 picks. Right now, the future of our OL is only C Brewer and RT Jackson. Not good.
Flash forward to 2025. This is a WR to keep an eye on this college season and who I would like to draft next year. He is a complete stud at 5’11 and 210 pounds. He’s like an elusive RB who plays WR. Not a blazer but runs about a 4.40 flat. We will most likely need to draft Tyreek’s replacement in 2025 even If he is still on the team next season.
His middle name should be YAC, not just for yards after catch but also yards after contact.
Again, a guy to add to your watch list (if you have one, lol) this college season.
He checks a lot of boxes with a good release and route running, hands catcher and attacks the football in the air, etc.
Guess Kendall Lamm isn’t coming back
I wouldn’t rule him out. He is probably looking for more money right now then we are offering. My guess.
2 open starting guard spots was probably the lure.
O-line is filling out. I’d still draft an OG/OC in RD1 or 2
agreed
Yep
Good to see Wynn back and we added some new OL.
why does it say (dead) for 2026
did we already cut him? 😂
Wow!
what?
is this the NFL or the IRS?
it’s called cheating on your salary cap
According to Dov Kleiman it’s called “payroll accounting errors.”. 😂
I don’t know if that’s the result of the “error” or not
maybe the 49ers didn’t report the right numbers to the nfl authorities….but payroll error isn’t the way I would describe that
Our OL will not win us any games against top teams, that will have to be done by our playmakers
They also won’t be the reason we lose against good teams, Tua needs to put the team on his back, only way to win the SB in today’s NFL
He can, it’ll take all hes got, he just needs to let the chips fall with no constraints
We also can’t have as many injuries as we had in 2023
we signed another guy tody
Jack Driscoll
he’s more depth at OL
I wonder if it’s the ssme
Jack Driscoll who took on King Kong
Early projected OL:
LT Armstead
LG Wynn
C Brewer
RG Jones
RT Jackson
We currently have 11 OL on the roster. Eichenberg, Driscoll, Cotton, Hines, Hayes and Smith round out the depth.
Nope - of going to lose any games…🙄
not going to lose us any games….
Not sure what you’re saying.
Eichenberg at RG
piggy, this fucking asshole we have in charge think he’s cute. he is writing contracts, and then on the same day voiding the last year or two of those contracts. That’s how he restructured Ramsey’s deal he made everything payable this year and pushed dead cap into 26 and 27 even though those years are voided on his contract. He’s done the same thing with this contract. He’s taking Decap out of future years salary without even cutting the players. or rather, he is pre-cutting them he has restructured several contracts this year with dead cap occurring in 26
We’re trying to win with our current core, not worrying about years down the line. You have to go for it sometimes. The window of opportunity is not very long.
Said every loser franchise stuck in loserville ever
Wow Vander Esch retiring after 6 seasons.
He got hurt against the Niners, Trent Williams blocked from behind. It was pretty brutal
Yikes!
Tim, you were right. They always find a way to make the cap work. Though, the way they are doing it now is just robbing too much from the future. They are still in the win now mode and this is about the last year they will be able to do it. Maybe next year if we draft well. It is not sustainable.
Our 2025 cap is now only 27,121,278. That still does not reflect the contract on Brewer, Tua extension or next years dead money.
Howard will be 15,699,000 in dead cap next year. Armstead is still owed 18,533,500 after this season. That’s 34,232,500 in 2025 dead cap (at least) and puts our 2025 cap at -7,111,222 not counting the contract on Brewer, Tua’s extension and all our 2024 draft picks signed to multiyear deals.
On top of that, Grier, in trying to clear 2024 cap has already created 25,377,000 in 2026 dead cap. That’s just from the impact on deals with Jalen Ramsey, Kendall Fuller, Jannu Smith and Durham Smythe. We won’t be able to pay Tyreek 56.3 mil in 2026 so he will be gone creating another 11.3 mil in dead cap.
That’s 36,685,750 in dead cap for 2026 and that’s 2 damn years away. Who knows how much more gets tacked on. This shit is not sustainable!
We will be paying to 55 mil a year to Tua and surrounding him with cheap FA’s on 1yr deals every year.
I should have added already 19.5 million in 2027 dead cap, 11.8 million in 2028 dead cap (thanks Rock!)
I understand it will come to a halt in a couple of years. But that’s how the new NFL works. Try to win while you have the good players you have. It doesn’t last long. Drafting is key to not totally blowing it up down the road. I’ve been on board with this approach since we traded for Hill. You don’t do that with a 4-5 year approach because that doesn’t really exist anymore.
i sure hope so…
Five Things: Jordyn BrooksMar 18, 2024 at 04:35 PMWingfield-TravisTravis WingfieldWriter
Dolphins fans looking for an intimidating presence in the middle of the defense can suspend the search – Jordyn Brooks is here. One of the fastest, most instinctual players in the game, Brooks brings an aura with him to South Florida. Here are five things to know Miami’s brand-new linebacker.
1. Productive and DurableThe counting stats, advanced metrics, the film – no matter which avenue studied on Jordyn Brooks, the roads all lead to the same destination: productivity. Not even an ACL injury suffered on the first day of 2023 could keep him off the field when the new season kicked off just nine months later. He’s missed just four games over a four-year career with an average of 111 tackles per season. In his first season as a full-time starter, Brooks racked up 184 tackles with 10 coming behind the line of scrimmage.Pro Football Focus created a stat that measures tackles that equate to a defensive win on a given play called stops. Brooks’ ranks the last three seasons in that category: 10th, 5th and 24th in the NFL.
2. Unreal RangeOccasionally sent on blitzes, Brooks’ pass rush productivity is a pillar of consistency. He’s never had a pressure rate of lower than 22 percent. It’s his ability to go backwards in coverage, however, that leaps off the screen. The 4.54 40-yard dash that Brooks clocked at the 2020 NFL Scouting Combine is demonstrated routinely on the tape. This clip shows the entire skill set. The speed to match and get vertical 15 yards downfield; the recognition to peel off that route and flow back downhill, and the physical skills to change direction in a flash. Just watch his teammate Bobby Wagner (No. 54) react to the play of Brooks here:For posterity, how about a clip of the blitzing element? The first-step explosiveness stands out here:
3. Mastering the X’s and O’sThe aforementioned Wagner has a great shot to one day wind up in Canton. For Brooks, filling big shoes when Wagner left to the Rams was a challenge taken head on.”It just means I’ve got to handle my business and make sure that I’m doing everything right at all times,” Brooks said. “You go down a list of great Seahawks that played here. Great leaders of the past teams. Take a little bit of pride in that. And so, I just want to do the best job that I can for our team.”Seattle climbed from the 31st ranked pass defense the year prior to 14th under Brooks’ leadership at the MIKE backer position. The Seahawks won two more games and punched their ticket to the postseason. Without Brooks for that trip to San Francisco, the Seattle defense surrendered 41 points in a loss to their rival.
4. Exuding LeadershipPlayers and coaches alike in Seattle were impressed by the maturation from rookie season to 2023 from the ex-Seahawks linebacker.”He is the conduit from the coaching staff to the rest of the guys on the field,” Pete Carroll said. “He’s embraced it seriously as a pro, he has really taken it seriously, and he really cares.””He has been absolutely lights out,” said former Seahawks LB K.J. Wright. “(Brooks is) just communicating extremely well, pointing at stuff. You can see him and Quandre (Diggs) communicating throughout the game. When I see Jordyn and what he’s doing for this defense, I’m really loving what I’m seeing.”
5. Charitable VenturesIn 2022, the NFL launched an initiative to help in the fight against hunger with a commitment of delivering a million meals to shelters throughout NFL cities. Brooks was part of the Plymouth Housing event where he helped distribute soup and other goods. For more analysis on Jordyn Brooks and the entire Dolphins free agent class, download the Drive Time Podcast with Travis Wingfield.
Hope so too.
I had no idea how severe the Connor Williams injury was
he’s not even seeing teams
That sucks.
Sucks for him, not necessarily for us
We could get him mid-season, when we drastically need some help

Got OD to put the email in but the email/password combo didn’t work.

I don’t think so, didn’t know that was an option
The Miami Dolphins lost Robert Hunt in free agency to the Carolina Panthers, leaving a sizable hole on the offensive line. With limited cap space, the Dolphins have to get creative with the players they add. Cheap options are ideal, and a former Chicago Bears guard can fill that gap.
Nick Pedone of Pro Football Network predicts that Miami will land former Pro Bowler Cody Whitehair on a cheap deal.
“After spending eight years with the Chicago Bears, 31-year-old offensive guard Cody Whitehair is still available.
Miami Dolphins running back Jeff Wilson Jr. agreed to a contract restructure Monday that cuts into his 2024 cap hit to the team.
The adjustment lowers Wilson’s cap number from $3.67 million to $2,375,500, according to a league source.
It essentially assures Wilson’s return to the Dolphins for the 2024 season as he was previously a candidate to be released for savings toward the salary cap.
Wilson’s base salary was lowered from $2.6 million to $1,125,000, but he added $400,000 guaranteed, plus workout and roster bonuses and incentives.
We can still clear 15m+ with a Tua contract
X post June 1st cut will give us money to sign rookies and add additional FAs
We ain’t done yet building 2024, a 10m+ DT has to be in the plans, unless we draft one at 21
Maybe they thought things through and decided it’s in the team’s best interest not to extend him. It’s really not a bad risk for the team
I’m honestly surprised how well Chris “Grief” Grier has stuck his landing in FA… at least IMO and today in March. I thought it was ‘doomsday’ last Monday when we lost 52% of our starting reps from ’23 on Defense.
To me, it actually looks like we’ll be competitors again in ’24… and that’s even before we’ve even drafted anyone (just over a month away!).
IF we nail the Draft in the first two rounds (perhaps three rounds if we regain our lost 3rd rounder), we could possibly be positioned to make a run this year.
NO, I do NOT care for the way we’re kicking the can down the road in terms of cap situations over the next 2 years, but I (at least currently) feel good about our ’24 season.
You’re almost as wishy washy as I am
Then, we’re in good company with one another! CHEERS!
I think we’re too hopeful here, because we want to be good. Right now, I think our defense has taken steps backwards. While the secondary is looking better, the D-line is nowhere near as good as good as it was. The LB corps may look similar to what we put up against BUF and KC w/o Chubb and Phillips early on. While we’ve done a fine job with depth on the O-line, are these guys depth, or our starters? We most definitely need to hit on our draft picks. If the DT we draft or OL can’t break the rotation, won’t the O-line pretty be much of the same as it was last year, with the exception of Aaron Brewer at C who doesn’t pass block well? If we draft a DT and he can’t crack the lineup, we’re gonna have LDE Sieler, NT Jones, and then either Harrison or Hand at RDE? Yikes!
🍻
Mike, yeah, we’re probably too hopeful. No doubt, a lot of things have to go right, just for us to equal what we did last year, which was one and done in the playoffs. We still have a ton of injury prone players, and have major turnover, that usually doesn’t bode well.
I definitely ride waves of emotion with the Dolphins, and now I’m over my gloom phase. We’ve been active, and we will definitely field a team of 53 this year, so I’m hopeful, lol.
I think we’ve had a decent FA period. I’m not nearly as down on the team as I was at the beginning of this. I’m still pissed we didn’t get more than a 3rd for Wilkins, but *shrug*, it is what it is. If we get a quality olineman or two, and another DT, and if Phillips can start the season, we might be alright. I don’t think we have any real chance at being SB contenders though. But I am thinking we’ll be solid playoff contenders.
BOOM!

I DO understand where you’re coming from, Brother. I suppose I’m seeing some hope with recent FA signings. Will it all come together? TBD…
We’ve GOT to nail our Draft this year. If not, NOT GOOD.
When would it ever be okay to not nail a draft? 😂
CAN’T WAIT for the Mike Tyson vs Jake Paul on July 20th this year!!!
Paul is going to get (in the words of Smoke Dogg on “Friday”), “KNOCKED THE FUCK OUT”!!!
https://i.pinimg.com/originals/b1/36/f4/b136f4934153f66a6482fe7d0a1b99c9.gif
Assuming we get a real fight, I’d love to see Paul get knocked on his ass, but a 57 YO Tyson likely won’t have the stamina to throw heavy for more than a rd or two.
I’m also curious to see what size glove they are using. That’ll tell you whether it’s a fight or an exhibition (no matter what they call it). I read something about 16-18 oz gloves which is laughable if it’s true.
It’ll basically be like Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out. Just survive the 1.5 minute initial flurry (which will be easier with large gloves that don’t hit as hard) and then Paul will take the decision. I think Mike will struggle with wind rd 3 forward, but will have the skills to easily go the distance.
It think this is probably staged to give Paul the best chance and they’ll both make a ton of money. If you’re a real professional, you don’t fight a 57 YO guy, no matter how good he was.
Heard they are not using weighted gloves.
I think DL is the biggest concern. I feel like the OL is solid until the injuries happen. Maybe we have better depth this year. I’m not worried about the skill positions.
The secondary looks pretty good and I think the LB position is better. Phillips and Chubb on the edge is still the biggest question. Barrett will help hold the fort but we need those two guys for a big run.
The way things shaped up in FA, I think front seven is going to be our first pick. DT or Edge.
QB, WR, DB, OL and a TE are going to be drafted along the way. I see a good DT/Edge prospect available for us.
Tim – I think what we mean by nail the draft is have these players come in immediately and be starters and play well. We didn’t get that from the ’22 Draft with Tindall, Ezukanma, Goode and Thompson. Thompson got the most playing time due to injury. Same with last year’s draft. Achane was great but didn’t play enough due to injury, we know the Cam Smith saga, Elijah Higgins is gone and we’ll have to wait and see on Hayes, which is fine for a 7th RD pick. We need our first 2 picks to be contributors NOW!
This is getting ridiculous. More money pushed down the road. Chubbs salary the next 3 years, 2025 to 2027 is now over 29.3 million per year. Not only that but they pushed some money again past his contract to 2028 adding another 2.7 million dead cap. Our 2028 dead cap is already at over 14.5 million and that is 4 damn years from now.
Is Chubb, post 2 ACL injuries going to play up to 29.3 mil per year??
And people say Wilkins got overpaid. SMH
That’s the thing Mike. It seems we’ve gone for a lot of quantity, but not a lot of quality. With all these restructures we could have paid either Wilkins or Hunt or both. Now we just have a lot of 1 year and 2 year deals.
Also, that isn’t really an “extra” 11 millions in cap space. That is money already spent. It puts our cap around 13.5 million but still have contracts on Aaron Brewer, Jack Driscoll, Braxton Berrios, Isaiah Wynn, Jordan Poyer, Benito Jones, Jonathan Harris, Da’Shawn Hand and Jody Fortson.
Contracts on those guys that have not hit yet.
Now we can knock off a little over 900k on each of their contracts as far as affecting the cap because they will be knocking the bottom feeders out of the top 51.
Kicking Chubb money down the road could just be done to be a tradeoff to be able to use the X money now (X money carries over)
We know that’s not Grier though
Ross wants a championship before he croaks, he’s willing to sacrifice later years cap for a chance to win now while Tyreek is still a Fin and several other high paid players are too
The cap will continue to go up for several more years too
They will have to sign Shaq Barrett out of the X money but will still have around an 11mil chunk left of it.
They are still in win now mode. We will see this done next year as well. Since trying to make it happen and pushing more money down the road.
Though it is not showing right now, we have a negative cap already next year and that is with a projected cap going up to 273 mil from the 255 mil this year. Once you factor in all the dead cap we will have in 2025, our 2025 cap is around -10 mil and that does not include the contracts of Tua, Brewer, our draft picks and whoever else we sign to a multi-year deal.
Last year without a pass catching TE it really hindered our 3rd down efficiency against good teams
3rd and short we couldn’t run inside well enough to pick up those important yards
Tua couldn’t improvise enough due to injury concerns and added extra weight
2 of these 3 should be fixed, if we can pick up the short yards on 3rd down we’ll be golden on O
Why not put in the Philly push? Use 2 jumbos like Seiler and Cotton to push the pile, Seiler could even take a fridge handoff from time to time
Why does it have to be Tua? They could have Jannu Smith take the snap and tush push his ass.
Of course, our center is only 6’1 295 so I don’t see him getting much push.
They will have to come up with the quint-tush push where each OG uses one arm to push the center’s ass then 2 TE’s push the OG’s asses and then a RB pushes the QB’s ass. lol
21.Jackson Powers-Johnson OC Oregon
55.Patrick Paul OT Houston
158.Keith Randolph Jr. DT Illinois
184.Josh Proctor S Ohio State
198.Dylan McMahon OG NC State
241.Jaden Crumedy DT Mississippi State
Very nice. I have been on the fence with Patrick Paul. Hearing he is a project with good potential and ceiling to be a long time starter at LT.
Is that what you think?
Some say he could be a hit or miss prospect. I don’t know enough about OL to see “it” one way or another.
I find myself wanting to trade down for a 3rd round pick and taking LT Jordan Morgan then OG Cooper BeeBe or OC Zach Frazier and a DT with the 3rd and Safety in 5th then whatever after that.
I’m sure you’ve red his before
I like him in the second. Like you I’m not a OL Guru
Patrick PaulOTHouston
Height: 6 – 7 |Weight: 331 lbs |RAS: 9.8
The 2024 offensive tackle class is stacked with first-round caliber blockers, and Paul is firmly in the mix to be a top-100 pick. Paul has a long, powerful frame at 6’7″ and 307 pounds that allows him to redirect rushers and comfortably handle stunts. His best attribute, though, is his patience in pass protection.
Rarely one to panic or expose his hands to defenders, Paul has great control of his own body, which forces defenders to show their move first. Paul’s blend of great technique, raw power, and patience allowed him to be a force throughout 2022.
Where Paul struggles to compare to his peers is his natural athleticism. He’s a very good run blocker but isn’t the freakish athlete who can effortlessly landmark at the second level. His limited agility and tendency to bend at the waist against speed rushers do show an upside that’s not quite on par with better athletes. – Ian Valentino
General Manager Chris Grier has hinted that Tagovailoa’s deal, which will likely be the largest contract ever given to a Dolphins player, will take some time, and might not get done till training camp.
I can see steam coming out MikeE’s ears…
We are going to be the Saints of the AFC. Next year will be our last hope then we will be just like the Saints, on the negative side of .500 trying for a WC spot every year. Like the Saints are in this year and next several years, they have no money to surround Derek Carr with good players. In 2025, the Saints cap is at over 334 mill which is 61 million over the projected cap in 2025. Their cap is at 334 million with only 37players on their roster for 2025.
In 2026 it gets better or worse. Saints have 55.7 mil in cap space with a projected 292.4 mil projected cap in 2026. That is with only 14 players under contract.
That’s 14 players under contract and another 15 PLAYERS CREATING DEAD CAP in 2026 for a total of over 236.6 million of their 292.4 mil cap. They have 55.7 million to fill 39 roster spots just to field a team in 2026.
This is where Greir has the Dolphins headed.
We are rumored to be restructuring Tyreke Hill too
Figures. Just so they can pay Tua what he is not worth.
They can probably make the cap work in 2025 if they let Holland walk in FA. Also, not do 5th year options or resign either Waddle or Phillips and let them walk in FA. Not doing 5th year options will save around 29 mil to counter our 30+ mil in dead cap next year. After another 3 years of pounding in the NFL, I don’t think Waddle’s body will be holding up anyway. We see signs of it every year.
It will also keep us from having to push a ton of money down the road and end up like the Saints for the rest of the decade.
Draft OL, DL, S this year. In 2025 draft, use our 1st, 2nd and three 3rd’s on WR, DB, Edge/OLB, WR and LB.
LOL @ BBMike – Listen, he has to play better, do more, to be worthy of that contract, and make us a legit contender. If he can do that, we can pay him $75M per, I’m fine with it. I like that he’s working to get faster, quicker. If he can become a pocket passer that can also move around and extend plays and take off for a nice gain every now and again and keep the defense honest, we’d be a better team, and he’d be a better QB.
LOL @ b worthy
Here BBM
Mike, I get what you’re saying about hitting on the draft. I just thought it was funny that there would be a time you don’t have to hit on a draft. The draft with Tindall and Ekukanma was really starting in the 4th with Tindall being a 3rd round comp pick based on the number pick it was. We definitely need our 1st and 2nd this year to be impactful in some way. Even if neither starts they need to add quality depth or play some significant snaps. Not inactive or way down the depth chart.
Jordan Morgan film vs Washington
I think he is a little better than Patrick Paul but still has issues to work on.
(19) Film Room: Jordan Morgan Vs Washington: All Pass Blocks – YouTube
I would probably take Morgan with a trade down though I hear Cowboys have interest in him with their 1st pick.
We have to do something at LT this draft. Whether it is Morgan, Paul or if we trade down, I also like Javon Foster in late 3rd or 4th.
No trade downs. lol
PICK: 21 RND: 1 Graham BARTON OT/IOL Duke
PICK: 55 RND: 2 Ruke ORHORHORO DT Clemson
PICK: 158 RND: 5 Walter ROUSE LT Oklahoma
PICK: 184 RND: 6 Javontae JEAN-BAPTISTE EDGE Notre Dame
PICK: 198 RND: 6 Garret GREENFIELD LT/RT South Dakota State
PICK: 241 RND: 7 Austin REED QB Western Kentucky
I don’t know much about these guys but not sure we take another QB even if just a 7th round pick. We could probably hope to find a depth STs player there. Someone who can possibly help the team in some way.
The QB is a “homer” pick. He played at Division II at UWF here in Pensacola and won the DII National Championship there. Then transferred to WK.
In reality I should have went with a safety there. Like you said, someone who could play ST.
Gotcha! That’s what I was thinking a depth safety who can play STs and possibly develop into a starting safety because you never know. Jordan Poyer was a 7th round pick.
Our offense is not the easiest system, lots of motion and moving parts. It’s in our best interest to have QBs who have some experience in it. Tua and Skyler going into year three and White his 2nd. I don’t think now is the right time to spend a draft pick on a late round rookie QB. He’s likely going to end up on the PS at best.
I am consistently amazed at how gullible people are. Tua IS NOT getting demonstrably quicker regardless of what he does in the offseason. This is just BS to placate fans and try to make them stop thinking about how many times he fell down instead of scrambling. Humans don’t just decide to get quicker. It is what it is. Maybe you can get a fraction quicker if you change your physique and develop certain parts of your body, but it’s going to be miniscule. Especially since we’re talking about split seconds. He ain’t getting that quick. Beside, it’s more about reading the pressure and avoiding it.
Last year it was the “learn how to fall” crap. This year he’s gonna work on getting quicker. What will it be after his 5th damn year as a pro??? Learn how to win big games? Can he work on that in the offseason too? My God.
LMFAO!!! That’s too funny
I’m not even sure what your commentary is about. Tua isn’t going to become physically quicker in any extreme way. But mentally that’s how most QBs improve through experience with games played and correcting what they could have done better by watching video of themselves and critiquing themselves.
Drew Brees was a much better QB in 2009 than he was in 2005. He processed everything quicker and wasn’t much of a runner. But he knew when to do what; take the sack, throw it away or scamper for a few yards.
Film Breakdown: Jack Driscoll Brings EXCELLENT Athleticism to the Miami Dolphins OL (youtube.com)
Randy, if you were talking about Tua wanting to shed some weight I think that’s what a lot of athletes do. They learn their bodies over time. Maybe Tua felt sluggish at his 2023 weight. Jerry Rice was drafted at 205 but said he felt the best at 190 a few years down the road. Fighters go through the same thing. More weight is not always better. It doesn’t mean you’re going to become Lamar Jackson or Ali.
Lol @ Randy
Hey, but now he’s going to work with a QB coach this year for the first time ever! Seriously? He’s a 5th year pro and never worked with a QB coach? That’s what was missing this whole time! LOL
What Randy actually said is exactly the trap some of you get caught in. Tua has a team QB coach. He hired an offseason guy to work on things he wants to improve on yet let’s turn that into a negative. You guys know the coaches in the organization can’t be involved during the offseason due to CBA rules right?
Hey FMU ers.
Thanks for keeping me up to date on everything, and attempting to get OD back on board was good to see he is alive and well….
Was away at a destination wedding last couple weeks but been reading along .. now back at home nursing a separated shoulder surgery from day 2 of 14 day holiday …. Man getting old sux

LMAO @ Toba. My wife was cracking up as I read her the ‘story’, then the real story and she sends her best, as do I 🙂
Good to see you back on the board, OD. Hope you and the missus are well.
