Dolphins sign Waddle, continue to fortify the skill positions

The Dolphins finally signed one of their successful 1st RD draft picks from the last few years to an extension. We allowed two important trench players go earlier this offseason, one on the offensive side, RG Robert Hunt, and one on the defensive side, DT/DE Christian Wilkins. It seems their priority is the skill position, and now another of the WR corps is waiting for his extension, namely #10, WR Tyreek Hill. I’m glad we signed Waddle, we need to keep our own, and in my view, we sent an awful message to our current players letting Wilkins and Hunt go, so this will soften the blow of doling out big contracts to players we traded for and not rewarding the ones we drafted and developed.

I’m not convinced however, that we’re building this team right. Now that Waddle has his big extension, it’s been out there WR Tyreek Hill is also seeking a large extension. Make no mistake, Hill is our best WR, but he’s also 30 years old, and for a smaller WR who makes his money on speed, this is just about that time when he starts his decline. It’s my feeling that it wouldn’t be good for the team to be paying two WR’s a boatload of money. We have obviously made improvements on the offense. Signing TE Jonnu Smith was in my estimation the best FA signing of the offseason. He does all the things we’ve been missing here for too long. When Hill and Waddle are covered, someone on the offense needs to step up and make the defense pay, and I believe Jonnu Smith is the leading candidate for that role. Often Tua would check down to TE Durham Smythe, but Smythe is not gifted with run after catch ability, or instant acceleration after the catch.

Another important move in the offseason was drafting RB Jaylen Wright. McDaniel wanted him so badly he was willing to sacrifice next year’s 3rd RD pick, which is really the equivalent of a 4th RD pick this year, and exactly where Wright was selected, pick #120 RD 4. Wright is more durable package with very little wear on the treads. Wright at 5’11 210 has good size, and was the 2nd fastest RB in the ’24 draft, posting a 4.38 40 at the combine. He will be a nice guy to have in our RB stable along with Raheem Mostert, De’Von Achane and whoever else manages to stick on the roster, either Salvon Ahmed, Jeff Wilson Jr. or Chris Brooks. Mostert bulked up last season and it served him well, because Mostert has a lengthy injury history. We also found out De’Von Achane also has a penchant for missing time, so adding Wright will make the absence of either Mostert or Achane much more tolerable.

When I look at what we’ve done this season, I feel like we have improved this offense, especially at the skill positions, WR, TE and RB, but have we really improved the O-line? For all intents and purpose, we let one of our most consistent lineman go, and brought back many of the same question marks who missed lots of time, and added a new question mark at C, Aaron Brewer. We drafted an OT in RD 2, but the majority of opinions on OT Patrick Paul are that he’s not ready to take over for oft injured LT Terron Armstead, one of the biggest question marks. Not for his talent, but for his availability. It’s not if he’s going to miss time, it’s when, and for how long. At LG we have Isaiah Wynn who missed 10 games last season, but was promising while he was playing. RG Robert Jones played well in relief but was also injured last season. RT Austin Jackson missed only 1 game, and was the iron man of the line.

Then we look at the defense, and while the secondary has improved, mostly due to the FA signing of CB Kendall Fuller, who had a down year last season. Fuller should be a solid upgrade nonetheless, CB Xavien Howard had an awful season while still battling various leg injuries. FS Jevon Holland is another guy who wants to be paid, and we don’t have the luxury of the 5th year option as Holland was a 2nd RD pick, that only goes with first round picks. There are so many facets to the salary cap, and I’ll be the first to admit I don’t understand all the loopholes and ways to minimize cap issues, but looking ahead, there are a lot of mouths to feed very soon. QB Tua Tagovailoa likely will be the next big domino to fall, and again, that’s on the offensive side of the ball. We’ve hodge podged together a defensive line rotation of castoffs from a few different teams, none of them standouts or bona fide starters. We got quantity, Gallimore, Tart, Hand, Jones, Harris, but not a lot of quality. DC Anthony Weaver is a rookie defensive coordinator, and he will be tested. I think we dropped the ball on the defensive side. I know some of you love the Jordan Poyer signing, I would too if it was 5 years ago. I just hope he makes it through the whole season and still has enough left in the tank to help us.

I think the offense, while improved, is really no better off to win in cold climates and dominate the trenches, we’ll still be attacking with speed, which we’ve seen gets neutralized in very cold weather. Our schedule this season is chock full of potentially frigid games, starting with a Thanksgiving matchup in Wisconsin against the Green Bay Packers, at night no less. Late December, (not back in ’63), we travel to Cleveland for a December 29th matchup with the Browns, once again at night, because it might not be cold enough during the day! Finally, the season finale will be in New Jersey against our division rival NY Jets. The time for this game has yet to be determined, but rest assured, it will be flexed to a night game. Actually, either we, or the Jets would have to be legit playoff contenders to be given such an honor, so hopefully it’s us!

    Wyoming, where you at?

My cousin wants to plan a camping trip to fish the Green River. Not sure yet in Wyoming or Utah. He wants to go late season, end of September beginning of October. Planning it for next year though. He mentioned “dredging” for trout whatever that means. I’ll have to look it up.

Any suggestions on a place to camp near the river? Primative is fine as long as it is not a long hike. My cousin goes all out on the camping.

Porn news on the page turn!

John Doe, meanwhile, is a minor. He alleges Howard separately sent him sexually explicit material in an attempt to intimidate his mother into having an abortion.

“After impregnating her, [Howard demanded] that she have an abortion, and [upon] her refusing, went on a warpath against her,” the lawsuit alleges. “Among other forms of revenge to [his] mother, and most notable, Howard texted sexually explicit material of [the child’s] mother engaged in an explicit sex act.”

Makes one wonder if there was more to replacing X with fuller other than cap space.

Just depends on where he wants to go

Upper Green has some good Browns and Brookies, and the stupid cutthroat

Float trips down lower are a good, It might be hard to get one for this year though

Boulder Lake up by Pinedale is some pretty country. I he wants to do some small stream fishing or get a boat for some lake trout

  4. Tim Knight says:

I think some of you worry about the cap too much, especially in future years. We’re trying to be competitors now and we have a 2024 season to play.

We’ve already seen how the cap can be moved around.

Mike, probably only 5 interior DL make the 53. A mix of guys who can play multiple techniques based on formations. Edge plays a big role in the pass rush and we’ll probably blitz LBs and DBs at times.

    • bailbondmike says:

I don’t worry about them being able to manipulate to get under the cap. They will do it but they are making it way hard to resign our own players we develop. Especially when they continue to increase the dead money down the road.

That said, I am comfortable with the roster right now and praying for no bad injuries.

      • Tim Knight says:

It’s the way the game is these days. 4-5 years is the term for the most part. That’s why you have to draft well and develop rinse and repeat. It’s not just about keeping your own, it’s about putting together the best roster you want. Trades and FA are a part of that.

  5. Tim Knight says:

BBMike, I saw that story about X but didn’t want to post it because it’s disturbing and he’s not our problem.

  6. Mike E. says:

Kong – So right my man! The quick and painful exit in the playoffs, basically looking like we never belonged in the playoffs in the first place, and the incessant “Tua led the league in passing last season”. Passing yards don’t get you championships! If Marino had 5084 passing yards and 29 TD’s, he wouldn’t have won AP Offensive Player of the Year, AP MVP, Rookie of the Year etc. The 48 TD’s were insane, that along with over 5000 passing yards made it in amazing season. How many GM’s are taking Tua over Mahomes, Stroud, Purdy, Allen, Goff, Jackson. I might even throw Jordan Love in there too. If passing yards were the end all, he would have had his friggin’ contract already, but in reality, it’s not important, winning important games is. Being consistent is too, you can’t just play well against lesser teams and disappear against good teams. That has to be one of the sticking points in negotiations, they have to be concerned with that

    • Tim Knight says:

It’s not just passing yards. Tua ranks high in multiple categories. You put too much blame on Tua as if nobody else is at fault for not winning big games. Who stepped up in big games making big plays when Tua didn’t?

      • Mike E. says:

Our defense had half the players out and still were competitive in that KC game. The offense was non existent. Same against Buffalo, the offense was just awful, the defense did well enough to keep us in the game. You know the QB has to play well to give the offense a chance and he played poorly. That’s all there is to it. If he was as good as as he was against the Broncos or the Panthers, I wouldn’t be saying any of this.

      • Tim Knight says:

The offense was banged up too. We were a very wounded team down the stretch. Tua was banged up as well. He had a foot and shoulder injury but played through it. It was a shitty situation after such a promising season for the most part.

    • CavalierKong says:

      I knew you’d love that one 🙂

  7. Mike E. says:

I also saw the X story, and agreed, it’s too disturbing and frustrating to discuss here. Glad he’s not on the team so we’re not involved in that nonsense

  8. bailbondmike says:

Insurance companies started using drones to assess damage a while back but now they are using them to check out our homes/roofs and yards for hazards like trampolines, over hanging trees, overabundance of yard clutter and dirty/damaged shingles. They then require the homeowner to address their issues or raise their rates or drop the homeowner.

I wonder if they will raise my rates or drop me when they video me aiming a shotgun at their drone?

  9. Mike E. says:

4624 yards passing, but only 167 against Buffalo in the season finale. Sorry!! Not good enough. 1 TD, 2 INT’s. You can’t win a playoff game like that unless you have the 2000 Ravens defense

  10. Mike E. says:

C’mon Tim – every offense is banged up. Did you see Purdy play without Deebo at the end of the season? He played great! He gave his team a chance in every one of those games, including the SB which he almost won. Excuses, excuses. Every time you make those excuses it further feeds my point that everything has to be practically perfect for Tua to play well. That’s not good enough in the NFL, where that rarely happens, especially at the end of the season. Guys are banged up

    • Tim Knight says:

Mike, we weren’t as good as the 49ers, the Ravens, Bills and Chiefs. It’s not a crime. We were a good not a great team. Then we lost key players in every position group. It was constant week after week. When that happens to other teams we always point that out about why the fizzled out. But we don’t get that excuse, we must win regardless.

      • Mike E. says:

More deflection. He didn’t play well enough to help us compete. You can’t say it, it’s so amusing. He didn’t play well against BUF, BAL or KC. Our offense should have been as good, we were the number one offense in the league for a while. We know the defense shouldn’t have been, but if our offense wasn’t as good last year, why will it be better this year? Jonnu Smith will help, but the QB has to step up his play in those big games, end of story.

      • Tim Knight says:

It’s not deflection, it’s about what happened. The injuries mounted up to the point we weren’t the same team. Not just talking about players we lost who were out, we were playing hobbled and it just wasn’t good enough.

The difference in our opinions is I think Tua can play big in big games because his body of work in those kind of games is a small sample size. This team is still developing under MM and we haven’t gotten to the next level yet. This season is year three under MM. I don’t even count the years under Flores because it’s so different in so many ways.

The past doesn’t matter. 2024 is a new season and that’s all that matters. We’ll see what happens. FinsUp!!! 🙂

  11. CavalierKong says:

I saw the story about X earlier. It’s not the first time a disturbing story of this nature has come out about him. Glad we don’t have to worry about the truth or baseness of it, we deal with enough of this type of nonsense with Tyreek.

  12. mf13ss says:

I’m going to do a remake of this song one day… it’s so hypnotizing to me…

I can imagine Nate Dogg (RIP) doing this in the male version…

  13. stangerx says:

I can’t be the only one who thought X had a screw loose. Sometimes players like that are gangbusters, but was not surprised by the new news. Remember the contract holdout that came like two years too soon cause he wanted to be the highest paid CB in the league?

    • Tim Knight says:

Wanting more money is different than this fucked up report.

      • stangerx says:

For sure this is more. But if the story was about Tua or Holland I’d be shocked beyond belief. Howard always marched to his own personal drum beat.

  14. Tim Knight says:

Mike, looking at it from a fresh start with Tua this year, I want to see what the results are working with John Beck’s QB camp that QBs coach Darrell Bevell said is in line with what we wanted him to improve on. That and he wanted to trim down. Tua is only 26 and is always trying to get better. He really puts in a lot of offseason work every year outside of the facility. We shall see. I believe in the guy.

    • Mike E. says:

That’s fine. I’m of the belief that some guys have it, and some guys don’t. It’s possible that some guys get it eventually, so maybe that’s the case with Tua. I have seen too many young QB’s play well so fast, especially last season. C.J. Stroud, Brock Purdy, Jordan Love, they’ve already stepped up and got it done, Stroud in his rookie season. Will Tua be late to the party with this? We can only hope. You know if he played well enough to win in any or all of those 3 games though, BUF, BAL or KC, well enough to win, he’d have a contract already. There would be no doubt.

      • Tim Knight says:

How many times have you seen the league catch up with QBs with a small body of work? Tua was thought of as a possible MVP candidate two years in a row before injury in 2022 and everything fell short in 2023. So it’s not like he hasn’t flashed at a high level.

If we get to use examples look at Drew Brees’ career. It wasn’t amazing early on. He went through some tough times and was basically replaced after his 3rd season when the Chargers ended up with Rivers in 2004.

Tua is not a guy I would bet against. But that’s just me.

  15. bailbondmike says:

Ronnie Radke, lead singer of Falling In Reverse, made a comment about how he was tired of the trans and gay stuff being shoved in our faces in commercials, TV and movies. Of course, he was immediately attacked by those communities and cancel culture. He is like the majority and says he is ok with what you want to be just don’t shove it in my face.

So, in this video he trolls them a little and cameo’s transgender Blair White as the Sheriff.

He is also known for genre bending, mostly rock/metal and rap. I guess this is a country/pop/rock genre bend.

  16. Mike E. says:

Tim – so you think it’s likely that C.J. Stroud is going to suck next year because the league has tape on him and I guess Brock Purdy and Jordan Love will also fall backwards, but Tua in his 5th year is all of a sudden going to find a way to show up in big games. Okay, duly noted. Time will tell. I think Stroud has a better offense and might be better than last year.

    • Tim Knight says:

No, just that there may be more challenges. We’ve watched sports for a long time. It’s not always easy on paper and winning big is not easy. I’m just going for the ride these days. I’m in my last year of being in my 50’s, the only championship I’ve experienced in adult life was in 1986 with the Mets. I love sports because I grew up both watching and playing it. But things I can’t control no longer compel me. I just look at the vision of the team and go from there. I root and focus on what could be. Maybe they surprise us!

      • bookman11 says:

This is a really good comment to me. Some of us are getting older and just want to cheer for our team to win a title. For me, I could give a crap about analyzing all the moves and what it means for the future, blah, blah, blah. Wake me up when the season starts and I will just cheer on my team. I don’t control anything else.

      • Tim Knight says:

Bookman, sorry I pissed you off back in the day.

Life is too short. Enjoy it while you can. 🙂

      • Krishna says:

Perfect…and that means I get to cheer when they win and get pissed off when they lose…lol

    • The Flying Pig says:

I think sophomore slumps are usually 50/50, even among QBs that go on to be great

After QBs have played a season, defenses start to adjust to thatQBs strengths and those QBs don’t always adjust right away, sometimes good QBs are slow to adjust. It’s not really an indication to how good they are

so I can see a little set back for either Jordan Love or CJ stroud. For me, Purdy has been through it already and came out steady

in terms of Tua – Tua doesn’t have to become a different QB

he will improve but he doesn’t need to improve to lead the team

he just needs to keep delivering what he delivered early in the season late in the season and into the postseason. He just needs to be who he has already been – not become a better QB

I would like to see him cut down his turnovers. And it seems like his focus this off-season was mobility and making plays after the offense breaks down – but he doesn’t really need to do those things to perform.

mild improvement make make a huge difference though

  17. bailbondmike says:

Told ya the sharks are bad here. Went pier fishing on Pensacola Beach Pier not long ago and not 5 minutes went by where I didn’t see at least one if not 3-4 at a time. I still don’t know why they are so protected.

  18. Mike E. says:

Pretty sure we’re all getting older. On the other hand, if we all just said “Falalalala, none of this really matters, hope the Dolphins win, we’ll be happy if/when they do, won’t matter a lick if they don’t”, I guess there wouldn’t really be anything to talk about, would there? 🙂

    • Brian in NY says:

yeah, I can realize that even though things , like my football team, aren’t within my control that I can still get pissed off they lose when and ecstatic when they win

  19. steveccnv says:

When you’re a running QB you can have success early in your career, since moving around buys time to make plays

Compare that to a QB that is a pocket passer

The pocket passer has to actually read a D, go thru his progressions, the mental Parr of the game

QBs back in the day sat for years, while they figured it out, then came Marino

Tua needs Ionger than others for this reason, Burrow doesn’t he’s special, Purdy benefits from a lot of YAC on simple short throws, but is special at anticipating where his receivers will be, if given time

  20. bookman11 says:

    Tim,
I don’t really remember the Super Bowls in the early 70’s, so for me, the only title I have experienced is the Bucks in 2021.

  21. CavalierKong says:

I don’t know what you guys are talking about. My entire life, it’s pretty apparent to me I’ve always completely controlled what happens with the Dolphins.

I was born in 1974, about 6 months after the Dolphins won their 2nd SB. We haven’t won another one since…coincidence? I think not!

    I guess I’m the ultimate…um…what’s the opposite of a rabbit’s foot?

    Sorry, guys, my bad.

I guess if I stop commenting one day, and a short while later we win the SB, you’ll all know I’ve shuffled off this mortal coil. 😂

  22. Randy says:

This is a good offense. They’ve proven that. What they haven’t proven is that they can show up in big games, so good is as far as I’ll go. The defense has changed so much it’s impossible to say it’s anything at this point. So, my evaluation of the team right now is that they’re an unknown. The great thing about competition is that you get the chance to prove it. Prove you’re better than a playoff loser because like it or not that’s all you’ve proven up to this point. Go win. Nobody’s stopping you.

    • steveccnv says:

What they haven’t proven is they can move the ball, when Hill and Waddle are doubled

Bring in OBJ and Jonnu, along with some unproven other guys and it’s not a stretch to say we’ll be better where we struggled last year

In year 1 MM we at least had a TE option in Gesicki to make jump ball catches in the EZ (when we beat some good teams), Fortson has proven he can at least do what Gesicki did 2 years ago

    • steveccnv says:

Biggest ? on D is can the 3 new Edge players hold down the fort until Phillips and Chubb get back to form

Our passrush last year was dynamic, when healthy. This year it should be the reverse slow at start and better as we go, with a chance to be even better

Brooks IMO is going to pick up the slack left behind from Wilkins. Watching his tape shows how well he pursues to the correct gap and how well he sheds blockers

Poyer will bring leadership/stability to the backend once provided by Blackwood

Sure you can say we don’t know anything about what the D will look like overall with all the changes, but hard to argue we don’t have some studs throughout

  23. Randy says:

    Kong,

So, are you saying you need to die for us to win a championship? You wanna go hunt bears in the Alaskan backcountry?

That’s a heavy burden to carry Kong. It’s not on you you were a poor innocent baby. It’s my fault, I turned ten in 74 after professing my my love for the Dolphins they had just won two Super Bowls and there was no reason that should change. But because I had professed my love for the Dolphins the “Sea of Hands” happens and 39, 21 and 42 go to the damn World Football League. It’s all on me pal you’ve been burdened long enough. I’m used to it.
Enjoy this year it should be a good one. I don’t know what that means coming from me but I like our squad.

  31. son of a son of a shula says:

I did have the Reds though!

even though the seventies were great for the Reds my favorite season was 1990, my first daughter was born and we went wire to wire sweeping the A’s. I watched almost every game of the season.
I worked for Pepsi at the time and we had an employee event at Boardwalk and Baseball, here in Orlando if anybody remembers it- long gone now, where Lou Piniella and Willie “Pops” Stargell were there for a meet and greet for us. I met Pops, great great guy so nice so cool. This event was during the 89 World Series, when I met Lou I asked him if he wax going to Coach my Reds and all he did was sort of smirk. This is after Pete Rose got banished. It wasn’t until listening to the radio on the way home that I started hearing the news of the Earthquake that happened during the game. San Fran I think.
Lou went on to lead the Reds to the 1990 title.

Sonny – I always think fondly of the Big Red Machine. My dad took me to World Series game 4 at Yankee Stadium. He also met a whole lot of the Big Red Machine in Chicago in ’77 at the bar in the Chicago Sheraton, where the Reds were staying. He sat there for a couple of hours with a Tom Seaver, Johnny Bench, Joe Morgan, Dave Concepcion, Mike Lum. Tony Perez and a few others.

Pirates ’79, Lakers and Dodgers (switched fav teams in 85 after moving to Burbank), and last year’s VGK

  35. CavalierKong says:

I’ve had three Cardinals championships to enjoy, and I’ve always been a Celtics fan with the Kings being my second team because of geography, so I got to experience those wonderful 80’s teams, 2008, and they’re going to win it again this year.

I also had the Blues a couple of years ago, which was glorious because of how out of the ‘Blues’ it was 😉

I’d trade them all for a Dolphins SB win. Football is top dog by a fair margin. Man, I hope MM can get us there.

    • CavalierKong says:

As a matter of fact, the Cards ’82 championship year was the reason I became a Cards fan and a Blues fan.

      • CavalierKong says:

I watched the Cards in the ’82 Series win and a couple of years later watched the Dolphins vs the Niners in the SB. ’82 was the first time I took notice of sports.

  36. bailbondmike says:

Son, we had the convo before. I became a Reds fan in 76′ after we moved from SC to Indiana in 75′. I listened to Marty Brenaman and Joe Nuxall on AM radio almost every night game. Only became a fan of the Cubs because we lived not far from Chicago and my uncle would take us to a few games. Plus, I hated the METS since they were in the same division at the time. Especially Lenny Dykstra when he was there in the late 80’s also Strawberry and Gooden.

My fav player back in the 70’s was George Foster. My second year following the Reds I think was when he hit 50+ homers and that was my guy from then on.

I was devastated when he went to the Mets. I forgive him though. lol

  37. Mike E. says:

    Foster sucked with the Mets!!!

  38. naplesfan2010 says:

The Braves have always been my favorite baseball team even in Milwaukee because Hank Aaron was my guy, being from Mobile and just the player he was and the man he had to be.

When they moved to Atlanta, it was a gift to me because I had a “home” team for the first time.

I was a teenager in ’72….started watching football/Dolphins when Shula took over. I’ve never really been any a fan any other team except loved the Reds back in the day, because of Pete Rose and Johnny Bench. Pete was Mr. Hustle and Bench played catcher…I could relate to both…lol

I like hearing all the origins, it’s very cool. I don’t mean to be a cranky old fucker here all the time, but I still have a lot of passion for the Dolphins, and no matter how they pussify the game, I still love football. Baseball, for me, will always be second place, but I feel like I know baseball better than football. Anyway, if I’m writing articles, I have to be true to what I feel which is exactly what I’ve been doing for the last bunch of years.

  46. Randy says:

    Krishna,

The Pats also had one of the best OL coaches ever. He could coach guys up, and their OLs benefited playing in front of Brady. They would also spend high draft choices on OL. They didn’t do it all the time, but they drafted OL in the 1-2 rounds. Bellicheat didn’t hang his OL out to dry, and Brady just made everybody better. You have the luxury to build a little differently.

  47. steveccnv says:

Brady had a great team around him early in his career, all he had to do was dump the ball off and an occasional deep pass, then once he figured things out and the illegal contact rule was changed (after the cheats held the Colts receivers all championship game long) he thrived

Like Mahomes he made those around him better

    He also had Gronk

My guess is Tua figures it out this year, he’ll be able to do just about anything with all of those weapons

    • Mike E. says:

Brady was confident, indefatigable, and just had that aura about him that rubbed off on his teammates. If he said they were going to win, they believed him and played hard for him. He told them what to do, and they did it. Mahomes is very much the same, not as much of a coach as Brady, but he has that aura too. His teammates believe in him. I’d love to see Tua be like that in big games, we’ll be unstoppable.

    • bailbondmike says:

He is such a dipshit. So, if Tua lost 10-15 pounds, it puts him around 212- 217 as he came in at 227 last year which was above league average. Per Pro Football Reference:

Tua last year 6-1 227 but now just say 15 pounds lighter, 6-1 212.

      Kyler Murray 5-10 206
      Bryce Young 5-10 204
      Kirk Cousins 6-3 205
      Bo Nix 6-3 214
      Mac Jones 6-3 214
      Caleb Williams 6-1 215
      Derek Carr 6-3 215
      Joe Burrow 6-4 215
      Lamar Jackson 6-2 215
      Michael Penix 6-2 216
      Jared Goff 6-4 217
      Ryan Tannehill 6-4 217
      CJ Stroud 6-3 218
      Trevor Lawrence 6-6 220

All these taller QB’s weighing about the same but it is an issue only for Tua.

The cheese dick never does any research and spews BS. He should be working for MSNBC.

      • bailbondmike says:

IMO, Tua needed to lose the weight. I mean Trevor Lawrence at 5″ taller played 7 pounds lighter than Tua last year. Not to mention 22 pounds heavier than 6’3 Cousins.

      • Tim Knight says:

Exactly! Tua looked sluggish last year when needing to run. He’s never going to be fast because he isn’t but he could get quicker.

      • Tim Knight says:

I also saw pics of Tua recently and he doesn’t look skinny, he looks slimmer. There is a difference. And he’s not wearing pads.

      • bailbondmike says:

I agree, slimmer but still built thick.

      • Tim Knight says:

Tua has never really been skinny but his legs have gotten thicker since his college days which is normal as you age and it’s good because you use your legs when throwing any ball. Also Samoans are not usually thin people.

    • Krishna says:

I saw that last week and almost puked on him….get a fucking life, dude!

  53. Tim Knight says:

  58. The Flying Pig says:

Tim thanks for posting that Florio story

Can I have the 10 minutes I spent reading it back?

Did he just say Tua is going to be “running the option and flipping it out there”?

Is that the offense he thinks we run?

How much of an “expert” can this guy be if confused the NFL’s leading passing offense with the 1982 Nebraska Cornhuskers?

Okay before you tell me we run some RPO – let’s be clear – running the RPO is not “flipping it out” like the old wishbone offenses that no one in the nfl has run in decades

In the RPO your QB is not exposed to unnecessary hits when he runs to the edges with his RB and flipping it them if the QB can’t run it himself.

Come of Florio? Did he even watch any football games last year – or last decade?

He probably thinks we are all blogging from typewriters

holy shit – running the option and flipping it out there

how is Tua gonna keep his leather helmet on!

these are the writers people are reading?!?

  66. mf13ss says:

    Tua is a WINNER. PERIOD.

Now, he just needs to elevate his game against the Bills (1-6) and the Chefs* (0-3).

But even with that stated… it kinda, woulda, shoulda been nicer if the whole team was healthy when playing these two teams over the years. Can’t put it ALL on the Tua.

  67. manitobafinfan says:

Panthers win game 2 as well 👍👍

  68. Tim Knight says:

I know this statement is redundant, but… it’s true. This current Dolphins team is good enough to beat any team but not at half mast. At full strength we’re a very talented team.

We don’t know enough about the defense yet because there is major transition.

Special Teams is like a bullpen to me. Year to year.

  69. Tim Knight says:

I’m looking forward to watching #44 lining up all over the place in the front seven. To me he’s an 80/20 attack/drop guy. He should be coached to attack the ball. He has Micah Parsons type size, speed and athletic ability. Create mismatches and disrupt the backfield.

    Let’s hope Chop becomes a thing. 🙂

    • Tim Knight says:

Watching what #44 does and what I see is pressure in the backfield and the ball tends to come out. He has a knack for strips or disrupting passes. His size, power, speed and long arms. Pick your comparisons starting with the best in LT, he has elite potential. Oh yeah he’s only 21. 😂

  70. Mike E. says:

Wait, so the Dolphins can’t win with a semi hard on, they have to have a full erection to beat the better teams? That’s something McDaniel has to figure out

Tua has great vision on his 1st and 2nd reads, he struggles to find open receivers not named Hill and Waddle

    • steveccnv says:

If Jonnu and OBJ aren’t his 1st or 2nd reads will he be able to find them?

Did we really need these additions, if Tua can’t

  73. steveccnv says:

Don’t care what Mike and Eeyore think of Marcus Maye, he completes our S squad, was dreading McMorris making the team and actually playing on D

Veteran pressence with some upside, that’s not counted on to start

  74. steveccnv says:

Think Ross fucked us up by telling Grier he wanted to win a championship before he died

Drafting Wilkins was a mistake, we should’ve traded it for a future 1st+

Grier spent too much money trying to be competitive, instead of stockpiling picks and cap for future years

IMO the build should’ve started in 2020

    • herdfan says:

If we’re going to talk Ross f-ups, that’s not the worst, by far. I’d put the tampering business way ahead of that. Lose a first and I think another later round pick. 🙄

On the other hand, can’t blame him for wanting to win. He doesn’t seem to have a problem spending his money on the team. But I didn’t ever want Brady here. There are some lines I will not cross.

  75. bailbondmike says:

Marcus Maye was a really good safety with the Jets. I think he has had some injury issues lately.

    • steveccnv says:

That’s what I said about Malik, when we drafted him, couldn’t figure out at first why we drafted a slowish short guy

What sets Tyreek apart from other short speedstersi his hops

  76. naplesfan2010 says:

Marcus Maye is a quality safety.

He was raised in the heat.

I guess maybe Poyer shouldn’t have given Josh Allen so much love while attending a team function in Buffalo after signing with us.

    • steveccnv says:

We’ll be playing some 3 high safety looks, with Maye he could be that 3rd safety, but against KC I’d bet Ramsey plays it alot, covering Kelce

Ramsey should be moved around based on matchup

  77. steveccnv says:

Signing Maye over Simmons is good news for Holland

Was thinking no way do we re-sign Holland, if we’d signed Si.mons for multiple years he was looking for

    • naplesfan2010 says:

yes but having Maye makes Holland much more expendable as Maye is much younger than Poyer.

so if he prices himself out the door, we have Maye who is just as good as Holland at a rate that won’t break the bank.

This should complete the transformation of our safety position from a serious weak point to a source of strength and reliability.

I’m hoping the law of averages works in our favor, so we don’t have a second year in a row of losing half the defense to injuries.

Jets HC Aaron Rodgers has told reporters that he excused himself from mandatory mini camp weeks ago, and will not be subject to fines. As GM, Rodgers has also mulled over the idea of making himself the DC, so he could ‘get Reddick on board’ with what he is trying to do with the team he owns.

100% agreed. And that stated, I’m very surprised we didn’t go for the splash signing in Justin Simmons… being that’s what we’ve been doing for far too long, IMO. Signing Simmons would have secured our place in cap hell… not that we’re NOT already going to be in it.

I’m looking forward to seeing what the Marcus Maye contract will be. Prior to his signing, we had just over $18M in cap space.

  82. Krishna says:

By all accounts, Paul has begun that process by spending time this offseason learning from Duke Manyweather — a renowned offensive line guru and someone who has worked extensively with current Miami Dolphins left tackle Terron Armstead.Recently, Paul spoke on some of the advice he has taken from Armstead during his time in Miami thus far:“One of the things he told me that I can relate to is the small victories every day. Win your set. Don’t just try to get it all done in one day. Just stack days and improve 1 percent each day.”The Dolphins’ lone remaining unsigned player from this year’s rookie class is their first round selection — EDGE rusher Chop Robinson out of Penn State.

I am very happy with the Maye signing but I am not sure the safety room is better than last year. Elliott and Jones are very good. Jones was coming back off injury last year. Maye is also coming off an injury year last year where he played only the last 7 games I believe. I like Poyer also, but he has lost a step IMO. I also don’t the rookie safeties make the 53 either but probably PS.

    • bailbondmike says:

    • bailbondmike says:

Yes, solid depth on DL. Benito Jones played very well last year. Hoping Tart surprises us.

Center not probably better as I am thinking Brewer replacing Williams. If you are thinking Brewer replacing Eich then yeah, maybe. That one is to be determined.

If our 3 new edge players can ball the first half of the season, we are looking really good there for second half with Phillips and maybe Chubb at some point coming in fresh.
