2024 Season – Game 1 – Jaguars @ Dolphins

The regular season is upon us, as our Miami Dolphins host the Jacksonville Jaguars at Hard Rock Stadium at 1PM, Sunday September 8th. As we enter this game, there are many questions that will be answered shortly. Will Jalen Ramsey play? Will Aaron Brewer play? Jaelan Phillips will play, but how much? Will there actually be a heavy rotation on the defensive line? Which OLB’s will get the most snaps early in this 2024 season? Will the offensive line play well enough to protect our $212M QB? Will the Dolphins actually use the TE as a weapon and not an afterthought in our new offense? Which RB will get the most action, between RB Raheem Mostert, RB De’Von Achane and RB Jaylen Wright? I’ll have some answers, really just MY answers coming up!

It looks a little more likely that CB Jalen Ramsey may play, he’s supposed to be practicing today, and if he can do so successfully, he will surely be in the starting lineup. If not, he’ll have to wait until next Thursday against our division rival Buffalo Bills. It also appears that C Aaron Brewer, who has not practiced in a few weeks but logged two limited practices will be starting at C. That means Liam Eichenberg will start at RG. The O-line will be as follows – LT Terron Armstead – LG Robert Jones – C Aaron Brewer – RG Liam Eichenberg – RT Austin Jackson. On the D-line, it looks like LE Zach Siler, NT Benito Jones, and RE Calais Campbell. Behind them is Brandon Pili and Da’Shawn Hand, but I believe that DE/OLB Emmanuel Ogbah will be in the mix there as well, although he will surely log snaps at OLB as well, splitting time with Jaelan Phillips, Chop Robinson, Mo Kamara and Quinton Bell.

We were told early on there would be a heavy rotation on the D-line, which will keep players fresher, and allow better performance from all players. Last year, DE Christian Wilkins played 81% of the snaps at DE. That type of workload is supposedly out the window, and when your RDE is 38, you can believe it. The bigger question is not whether or not will have a heavy rotation, but rather will it be effective? That’s the fuzzy part, but Sunday, both in part will be revealed. We had quite a few D-linemen on our roster, and expected to carry more than 5, 6 if you count Ogbah. I could guess that quality won over quantity, but we’ll see if the so called “second wave” or “tsunami” is anywhere close to getting the job done. This will be a must watch.

I have been feeling since we acquired TE Jonnu Smith, who by the way will be listed as a FB, will be a big part of the offense. Not always the first target, but if #1 and #2 are covered, and Jonnu is open, and he should have plenty of opportunity to do just that with all the attention Hill and Waddle will be getting. Last season, TE Durham Smythe caught 35 passes. Also last season, with Atlanta, Jonnu Smith caught 50 passes, and keep in mind he was TE2 there with promising TE Kyle Pitts as the #1. One possibility that I’m well aware of is at least last season, Tua doesn’t hold onto the ball much, but just looking at the 35 receptions by Smythe, I can tell you he wasn’t the first target on the majority of those catches. Tua gets the ball out quick, many times out of necessity to avoid getting hit, but sometimes he extends plays, and I believe this season, that will increase as he has new contract, and I’m not saying he will be reckless, but I do think he’s going to try and keep plays going whereas last year he was trying to get through an entire season.

Trevor Lawrence had an uneven season, much like our own QB Tua Tagovailoa. Tua’s slide was more at the end of the season, Lawrence had a few good ones, a bad one, then a couple of good ones, but for the last games in the regular season, against the Ravens, Bucs and Titans, he was pretty awful, and I believe playing injured as well. This year, however, the Jaguars definitely improved the skill positions. The Jags drafted WR Brian Thomas from LSU. They also picked up WR Gabe Davis formerly of the Buffalo Bills. Christian Kirk is healthy now, after missing the last 5 regular season games and their playoff game. Kirk is a big part of their offense, and with Gabe Davis, and Brian Thomas, they’re more formidable. RB Travis Etienne is a solid back who rushed for over 1000 yards and had 11 rushing TD’s. The Jags also picked up former Bills OC Mitch Morse to solidify the O-line.

On defense, it starts with DE Josh Hines-Allen, who set a Jacksonville Jaguars record with 17.5 sacks last season, eclipsing the former record held by none other than our RDE Calais Campbell (14.5). The Jags picked up veteran DL Arik Armstead in FA from the 49ers. He’s a very disruptive lineman in his own right. MLB Foyesade Oluokun had 173 tackles and 111 of them were solo. In the secondary, the Jags added veteran CB Ronald Darby and he will start at LCB oppositeTyson Campbell. Darby started only 7 games for the Ravens last season while Campbell started 11. Antonio Johnson and Andre Cisco are the safeties. The secondary is the weakest part of the Jags defense, but their defense is great at getting pressure, so we’ll see how that affects our run:pass ratio.

We tend to start out the season pretty strong under MM, last year it was an impressive comeback victory in LA over the Chargers, 36-34. We’re home, and we tend to play better here, but the Jaguars, also a Florida team, won’t succumb to the heat like some other teams might. There are also a lot of questions about personnel, due to the myriad of injuries we have. If you told me before the season that C Aaron Brewer who started every game the last 2 seasons might not play Week 1, but OLB Jaelan Phillips will be playing, I’d call you crazy! As it turns out, they’ll both probably play, but you get my point. We need to start strong again, our schedule, at least at the moment is more favorable early on, home for the Jaguars, home for the Bills, at Seattle, home again for the Titans with whom we have a score to settle. Then we travel to Foxborough to take on the Pats, then our BYE week. We then go to Indy to face the Colts and back home for The Fest game against the Arizona Cardinals. We stay on left coast to face the LA Rams, and then back home for two, to face the LV Raiders and then the Patriots again. Here’s where the screw turns, at Green Bay Thanksgiving eve in what should be a frigid night. At home to face the NY Jets for the first time of the season. Then off to Texas to play the Houston Texans. We then host the 49ers, and the final two games on the road at Cleveland, and then the season finale in New Jersey to face the Jets.

As Rock points out, every game counts, and that’s 100% correct. The problem is, we seem to fall off of a cliff at the end of the season after climbing said cliff during the beginning and middle. The objective is to stay on the damn mountain! We can’t have half the team injured and we need our best players, especially the ones now receiving massive contracts to play well in ALL games, even if they occur at the end of the season as the schedule dictates! LOL! Anyway, that’s why I feel we need to start strong, but any combination of 11 or 12 wins for us will be totally acceptable to me, I’m easy!

2 players I thought were disappointing yesterday were Berrios and Smythe

so more use of Achane and maybe Jonny Smith might be a big help

and hopefully OBJ can get in the field too

Cower in the post game recap talking about JAX going for it on 4th down in their own territory says “give your defense a chance, you know they’ve been playing pretty solid all year long” lol

I said something about that at the time, not here on the blog but irl. My comment was something along the lines, they haven’t played a full game yet… WTF are you talking about?!?! 🙄

Even though week one absolutely counts in the standings, it really was a warm up game for starters and significant role players across the league. Week one is always weird.

For us, the game against the Bills needs to be much better football. We have to win this game to achieve a higher standard.

VERY under-rated movie which is going to get more play in light of recent circumstances and convo. I purchased the movie the day it came out, same with the soundtrack.

the best part to watching a Dolphins game in Wisconsin ……….. is hearing the crowd roaring “GO BADGER INGOLD” when the phins actually utilize the fucking full back. if these goofy cheeseheads can recognize this, all I can say is, come on coach Mike, here’s 5 bucks, buy a clue…..lol.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

We did that last year. We’re an evolved offense based on traditional concepts. There are only a handful of teams using a Fullback and we’re one of them. We signed Ingold the first year of MM.

“Mr. Hill’s legal team is exploring all legal remedies that may be available to Mr. Hill as we believe that the officers’ actions on September 8, 2024 were excessive,” the statement reads. “As Mr. Hill is appreciative of his status as a ‘celebrity,’ it is not lost upon him how so many others in similar situations have met a different fate and how fortunate all parties involved were able to walk away from this matter.

“To be clear, the traffic stop of Mr. Hill by officers of the Miami Dade Police Department originated as a traffic infraction, but was then escalated after Mr. Hill provided officers his driver’s license and then rolled his window back up. One of the officers knocked on Mr. Hill’s driver’s side window and advised Mr. Hill to keep his windows rolled down otherwise he was going to get him out of the car.

“Mr. Hill had his window rolled down and that officer then demanded Mr. Hill out of the vehicle even after Mr. Hill complied with that officer’s request to keep his window down. Immediately after, another officer then aggressively approached Mr. Hill’s vehicle and stated something to the effect that ‘if we have to break that f***ing window we will.’ Mr. Hill rolled down his window each time he was requested to do so by the requesting officers.”

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

    • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

The cops were highly confrontational from the moment he rolled up his window and made no attempt to de-escalate once they escalated.

Once he rolled his window down the 2nd time, instead of clearly explaining that they required him to keep it down, they sort of explained, and went straight to ‘get out of the car’, then went straight to dragging him out.

      Very poor police work.

      • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

way excessive by these cops, I’d like to know what happened initially, that triggered these idiots

      • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

Yeah, they were agro from the get.

Once he rolled his window down the 2nd time, a simple “we need you to keep this window down or you will have to exit the vehicle” probably would have sufficed, lol.

  20. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

By this Tyreek didn’t put his window down

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

He didn’t comply and roll the window down. The officers didn’t know who he was

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Still over the top. I feel the officers wanted confrontation here.

      • Brian in NY's avatar Brian in NY says:

he did, and then he rolled it back up. Then he rolled it back down when requested to do so again. Not a great move by him, but total abuse of power by the police. They should, and will, lose their jobs over that.

      • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

From the moment they yanked him out of the car and put him on the ground without giving him the chance to get out on his own is when the cops were in the wrong and through the rest of it.

      • Ken's avatar Ken says:

To me the second take down was completely unnecessary. He was cuffed, he was not a threat, he was calm and expressing a medical concern. No need to take him to the ground in that situation

Allen was listed by the Bills as a full participant in Monday’s walk-through.

The Bills will be without 2023 second-team All-Pro nickel cornerback Taron Johnson (forearm) in the game against the Dolphins after he left Sunday’s game on the first drive.

even on that score though there were a ton of long 3rd down conversions (on slants)

so maybe this offense is no better than last year

but he looks like he is throwing strong

IMO the jests last season were really saddled with lack of creatively on offense

      • Ken's avatar Ken says:

I never doubt Rodgers arm strength. He has a great arm. Always has. The key to see how he is this year will be is how well he moves in the pocket. So far he has not had to do that too much so can’t really tell how far along his recovery is

  34. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

What I saw from Rogers last night:

    1. His arm and ability to see the field is still good
    2. He doesn’t scramble around anymore
    3. When things breakdown he goes to his dump off quickly
    4. He was inaccurate under pressure
    5. Susceptible to pressure up the middle
    6. Has active bitch face – rolls his eyes every time something goes wrong and it’s never his fault

I predict he destroys any team chemistry the Jets might have and they fall apart before mid-season.

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Just now realizing that the police put Calais Campbell (the NFL’s Walter Peyton Man of the Year) in handcuffs, too, just for trying to figure out what was going on. Calais witnessed ‘Reek being ruffed up by the police.

Sue the FUCK out of the police, ‘Reek!!!

i can see Mostert sitting before Achane. He came down funny on the first tackle and looked like he was holding his ribs/sternum afterwards. of course, he was in on 30 more plays after that. Achane was playing on a sore ankle. I’m sure it was sorer on Monday. I expect both will play. Game two of the season be like a playoff game!

  74. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

It’s now quite clear that the police who pulled ‘Reek over knew who they were pulling over. And they CERTAINLY knew who he was after he provided his ID, so there’s that.

    ‘Reek was targeted.

  75. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

I DO want to reiterate that ‘Reek wasn’t an angel during this arrest… I DO understand where the police were coming from regarding the window tint and the window being rolled back up.

However, I ALSO want to reiterate that the police response afterward was 100% unwarranted, and ESPECIALLY being they knew who they pulled over on game day, just outside the stadium.

  76. stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

There was one winner in Tyreek takedown incident — Drew Rosenhous. As Tyreek is going down he’s yelling “Drew I’m getting arrested” and before it is all over who is standing next to Tyreek?….. Drew Rosenhous. Bet a lot of players will be thinking “I want an agent who will have my back like that.”

  77. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

the window and window tint issue was an officer security issue, I totally get that on their part and Tyreek wasn’t exactly alleviating those issues

once he was out of the car…the cops 100% didn’t handle the situation as trained or by the book, the cop put his feelings before his professionalism

    • Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

You mean when grabbing and pulling him out of a low riding car?!!!! That was fucking uncalled for and the cops were out of control exerting forceful means, basically assaulting him at the point.

    Ramsey’s cap hits are $25 million in 2026, $26.8 million in 2027 and $36.2 million in 2028.

      • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

      • Ken's avatar Ken says:

We are only talking about his behavior on Sunday. That is all that is at issue. The police are not beating him because of how he acted the last 2 years. You are creating a narrative that is irrelevant to the issue at hand. Tyreek did nothing that justified the actions of the officers

Tyreek playing the BLM card is disgusting. Acting like people that can’t follow basic directions from an officer are more at risk than the officers that have to deal with all varieties of rule breakers and criminals is ridiculous, just like our society today. The officers were in the wrong but pushing the BLM narrative is gross and provocative.

    ______

The cop was still to blame in this particular situation because they got their feelings hurt, but I agree with you that Tyreek has a history of getting himself into bad situations. He also has a history of domestic violence so I don’t like rooting for him playing for this team.

I don’t think anyone here denies or has made ANY excuses for TH…another bullshit comment. No one is ignoring his behavior.

The cops escalated it from all the video I’ve seen, 0-60, when they pulled open his car door and violently pulled him out the car to the ground…the cops comments were also heard and they had an agenda.

    • Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

They knew it was TH and they were going to teach him a lesson. The cops actually said that in one of the videos (pretty positive).

Fuck your lesson! What was learned?!

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Ken has, the strong majority have just not said anything about Tyreek’s behavior, like nothing to see here and even you started with when the pulled open his door, so thanks for proving my point, lol

Lol…no one on this blog speeds while driving except me. Yeah right…lol

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

I’m pretty sure no one on here would speed like Tyreek did going into an NFL game, with cops everywhere, going about 80mph in a 35, in moderate heavy traffic

      • Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

It was 60 being reported and mf13ss even stated the body cam showed 60. I believe it is 45 there, I don’t remember. Even if 35….just stop it….lol.

That’s means stop attacking TH…it seems you have an agenda too.

I think pp mentioned he’s an entitled prick…so what?

These are not excuses for being treated by those who “serve and protect”. Fuck that!!!

  93. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

    Here’s the problem

Hill told CNN he remained confused by the encounter.

“I’m still kind of shell-shocked from it,” Hill said. “I’m embarrassed.”

Tyreek has learned nothing from this, he believes his behavior was normal

    • Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

I think TH is being coached to say these things to play the victim. Of course. Again, so fucking what?! Every fucking celebrity, politician, etc does it.

What is your fucking point to him being treated they way he was? He deserved to be taught a lesson? You sound like the fucking bad cops! Lol!

      • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

My point is don’t put yourself in that situation

has he not learned any life lessons? You wouldn’t stick your hand in a lion’s mouth

the cops were already hot, because they had to chase down some idiot, who was driving way too fast, oh wait that idiot was Tyreek

sometimes you have to know when

I wouldn’t go to Watts at night and walk down the street, sure this is more of an extreme, but…

the cop had a short fuse, totally unexceptable behavior and they’ll get theirs

make 7up yours talking about boot licking, then your political BS spin on things

I’m a Fin’s fan I don’t really care much about the outcome for the cops, because justice will be served and if not whatever its not that big of a deal, I care about what’s next for Tyreek

Is he going to do something stupid again the night b4 the superbowl and not be able to play?

he needs some player on the team to hold him accountable, not Waddle doing the handcuff celebration, yeah let’s make a joke about it instead of dealing with the ussue

      • Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

Yes, he did put himself in situation and all of us have except you apparently. He did not deserve to be violently dragged from his car.

I have no idea what you mean “make 7up yours talking about boot licking, then your political BS spin on things”. I must be dense….lol.

He may be stupid and hurt the team. I wish he would get his shit together. Apparently, he’s too full of himself at this point to figure it out.

  94. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

up until Hill said, I’m getting out everything was of his doing

Another officer opens Hill’s car door and starts to pull him out of the car, saying, “Get out!” while Hill responds, “I’m getting out.”

everything after the officers were 100% wrong. Why are you pulling him out and throwing him on the ground, when he said he was getting out? Sure he’s been uncooperative the entire time, but the cops need to be professional
