2024 Season – BYE Week

Week 6, the one and only week of the season where the Dolphins are guaranteed not to lose. The Dolphins are 2-3, in a division where the AFC East Crown is very much in play. In no way am I saying that we’re one of the teams in the hunt, because if you’ve watched all 5 games this season, you’d be able to deduce that we’re more likely to end up with a great draft position than we are of actually competing for a division crown. The Dolphins have not only screwed up the starting QB position, but they have done so for the backup role as well. Now part of that falls on Head Coach Mike McDaniel for not having backup Skylar Thompson fully prepared. I would like to think that both he and Chris Grier collectively made the decision to let QB Mike White go and keep Skylar Thompson as the backup. I would also like to think they did this, with full awareness that #1, QB Tua Tagovailoa is about as reliable to be on the field as a Fiat automobile is to be on the road. We all saw it, Skylar Thompson looked like he got pulled off his couch and had no previous knowledge of this offense, or chemistry with any of the players. That’s a huge black eye on this organization that if Skylar Thompson is healthy, that we once again start QB Tyler Huntley, who’s tenure here in Miami is all of 3 1/2 weeks ago.

The fact that this team has won 2 NFL football games is somewhat shocking. We played so poorly in the season opener against Jacksonville, with QB Tua Tagovailoa as the starter. He threw for a bunch of a yards (338), but only 1 TD, to Tyreek Hill who beat the coverage and Tua dropped it in nicely allowing Hill to run away from the defenders. We won by a FG with time expiring, and as it is, this was the only game of the season where we scored at least 20 points. Tua played nearly 3 quarters against the Bills and had 1 TD, 3 INT’s. In Tua’s 1 3/4 games, he had a rating of 78.9. Wanna see something really scary? Skylar Thompson rating is 78.7. Just digest that for a moment. For those of you fans that think Tua is going to lead this team to an epic championship run when he returns in Week 8 against the Arizona Cardinals, his likely return date, think again. This offense was not right when Tua was playing, practicing, in sync with all his receivers, or at the very least, Hill, Waddle, Smith, Achane etc. If you add in how poorly Tua played in the final 4 games of the 2023 season, I’m not sure how you think he’s going to be better playing now in 20 layers of bubble wrap, actively avoiding hits of any type, probably throwing balls away quicker than necessary to just make sure he doesn’t get hit, and taking into consideration his poor play is just a continuation from the end of last year.

I know many Dolphins want to think of Tua as “him”. Some also want to think of Head Coach Mike McDaniel as “him”. Right about now I’d say were 0 for 2. If you watched any of the games since Tua has been out, it’s painfully obvious that Mike McDaniel didn’t try to simplify the offense, or alter it to suit who the QB was that was at the helm during that game. So many motion mistakes, complicated play call verbiage leading to delays getting to the line, 3 players in motion at the same time and just multitudes of confusion. That is definitely on the HC, and offensive coordinator, and both of those are Mike McDaniel. As for Tua, he’s going to likely play the rest of his career, whether that’s 2 quarters, 2 games, or 2 seasons, oh so carefully. I have pointed out that this does not lead to success for this team. There will always be plays left out on the field because of throw aways, or the QB just ducking down and assuming the fetal position to avoid getting trampled upon. This is a physical contact sport, one in which avoiding contact altogether is nearly impossible, but that’s what Tua is going to be coached to do.

Back to the argument of all games count the same. As you all know, I’m a huge NY Mets fan. The NY Mets were 24-34 on June 1st, 2024. They went 65-40 the rest of the way to finish 89-74. Even more than that, in a crucial 2 game series against division rivals Atlanta Braves, in Atlanta, the Mets won a must win thriller that pushed them into a Wild Card playoff series against the Milwaukee Brewers in Milwaukee. The Mets dispensed with the Brewers in a best of 3 series in 3 games, winning the series 2-1. Then they took on the NL East champion Philadelphia Phillies and took that series, a best of 5 series in 4 games, winning 3-1. No matter what happens the rest of the way, the Mets had a fabulous season, playing their best baseball at the end of the season, not at the beginning. No one cares that they started out so poorly, or that they were 10 games under .500 in June. Can’t we, Miami Dolphins have a battle tested squad ready to rumble at the end of season? For once, I’d love to see the Dolphins have a chance at a playoff spot, or a division crown in the month of December and see us roll through every team on the schedule and get in, rather than fold under pressure in December. Part of that is Mike McDaniel who fails to make adjustments when teams take away our most potent weapons. We thought bringing in TE Jonnu Smith would cure that, he’d be the outlet, but Smith is hardly on the field. Tyreek Hill has had an enormous drop off from last season, it’s insane. In 2023 after 5 games, Tyreek Hill had 37 receptions for 651 yards and 5 TD’s. In 2024 Hill has 23 receptions for 286 yards and 1 TD. Jaylen Waddle has a slow start in ’23, and it’s been more of the same in ’24. TE Jonnu Smith has 14 catches for 140 yards, but he had 6 in one game and 5 last week, and otherwise was barely used.

It’s still up in the air as to who starts next week, they still have time to sort that out. I do think it’s an indictment on Grier and McDaniel if Tyler Huntley starts over a healthy Skylar Thompson. The QB you drafted and kept on the roster as your backup, one that has been working and digesting this offense since he got here in 2022, can’t beat a guy picked up off a practice squad and will have been here a month? Not a good look. There are so many disappointing aspects about this team. 38 year old DE Calais Campbell may be our best player on our defense, and he’s playing 55% of the snaps on D. The problem is, Calais Campbell is hanging up his cleats next season. We have so many one year contracts, and I’m not picking on you Tim, but you always say why worry about the future? This shitshow of a season is why we worry, and if it were up to me, I’d trade Tyreek Hill for some valuable picks, because we’re going to need them. I hope Chris Grier does that, and sets up the next GM very well for next year’s draft, because we need to hit on a QB, and a few guys to protect that QB.

Now, is there a chance that QB Tua Tagovailoa comes back and is the savior of our season? Of course there is, I mean the Jets fired HC Robert Saleh, and Josh Allen got rocked last week, talk about head hitting the turf, wow! The Patriots are awful, I mean, hey, we beat them. The problem is, we haven’t really resembled an NFL team most of this season, we make dumb mistakes in every facet of the team, mostly offense and special teams. Yes, ST’s Coordinator Danny Crossman is still here! Wer may be able to steal the division with 9 wins. Now 9 wins at this juncture looks like climbing the Empire State Building wearing no shoes or gloves, and hands and feet lubed up with vaseline, but you never know. Oh, thank goodness for those NY Mets. I wish them success and hope they vanquish the favored LA Dodgers to play in the 2024 World Series, but they have given me so much joy I didn’t really expect. Can the Dolphins do that for us, missing out on winning a playoff game since the year 2000, so going on 24 years? Probably not, but if not, we have to hope we can secure a QB in next year’s draft because you can’t go another season relying on QB Tua Tagovailoa. It’s not fair to the fans, the players on the team, anyone. It’s not his fault he can’t take a hit, no more than it was “Crystal Chandelier” QB Chris Chandler’s fault.. It’s our fault for giving him a massive contract though, and one I begged us not to do. I hoped the image above was a final kiss goodbye, but QB Tua Tagovailoa wants to play. Maybe somehow this will be the feel good story of the season, that QB Tua Tagovailoa comes back against all odds, stays healthy and leads us to the Super Bowl and wins it all. Ah, we can only hope . . .

#Dolphins HC Mike McDaniel to reporters today: Tua Tagovailoa will not play this week but is expected to resume playing in 2024. Tagovailoa is still seeking information and ‘the process continues.’

    thanks for the update…

  2. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Brian, I agree, there could be one of those teams like the Chiefs who have built their team right and have that luxury to take him in the 1st.

  3. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

My question above made me want to go look further into trady pant’s moves. This is not all of them because it becomes hard to track, but here are some of the moves since his “official” taking over as GM.

2016 – traded a 4th to move up 4 spots in the 2nd to take Howard. (no CB’s were taken in that span – wasted move)

2017 – Picked Charles Harris with first pick! Traded a 3rd, 4th and 6th to move up and take Leonte Carroo

    2018 Traded a 5th for Stephone Anthony

    2019 Traded a 2nd and 2020 4th for Josh Rosen

2020 NINE fucking trades including moving tunsil

    2021 traded a 2022 1st and a 2023 3rd to move 6 spots to take Waddle (waste!!)

2022 traded 5 picks for Tyreek. Traded a 5th to move up to take EZE

2023 Traded a 2nd and future pick for Chub and a 3rd for Ramsey leaving us with Cam Smith and Achane for our only real picks.

This dude needs to be GONE!!!

    • Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

For Reek – a first, a second and two forth

      • pheloniusphish's avatar pheloniusphish says:

        He traded a 1st and a 4th for Waddle AND a first.

And Mike needs to edit your posts…threw away, not through away…🤣

    • Brian in NY's avatar Brian in NY says:

I’m not going to kill I’m for the straight up picks that didn’t pan out, that happens often and not just with us. But the giving up picks for guys like Rosen, Caroo, Eichenberg, etc. that’s part of what is killing us . Those roster fillers that step up and can become quality starters at some point.

      the Howard trade was fine

the other part that had killed us has been the trades for very good players, but then giving them Munster extensions on top of that. That formula doesn’t work very often. Grier rolled the dice and lost big time. This team is in a lot of trouble foe the foreseeable future if they don’t miraculously begin to get and stay healthy, which isn’t going to happen.

spell check just gets worse and worse!

      • Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

Ok, the trade up for Howard was “fine” it just wasn’t needed. He through away a 4th round pick to move 4 spots and Howard would have still been there.

  4. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

The AFC is still wide open.

    • Brian in NY's avatar Brian in NY says:

I think the Chiefs and Ravens are at the top, but the rest is wide open. It’s just too bad we can’t take advantage of it. If we can somehow pull off a win this week there will still be hope, but people are assuming that Tua comes back and all of the sudden we are back to scoring 30 PPG. This offense has some real issues, and that all starts up front.

  5. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

We do have 1, 2, 4, 5, 5, 7, 7 draft picks and we probably get some comp picks.

  6. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Rock, in 2021, Grier also traded our 2021 #50 pick and a 2022 3rd to move up 8 spots from #50 to draft Liam Eichenberg.

  7. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

OLB Bradley Chubb (knee; IR) isn’t expected to return to practice this week, per McDaniel.

  8. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Jets holdout edge rusher Haason Reddick has hired Drew Rosenhaus and Ryan Matha as his new agents.

He could end up in Detroit. They have the cap space.

    • Brian in NY's avatar Brian in NY says:

it fits.- the only issue will be the extension that he wants. Detroit is in the drivers seat, I hope they give up no more than a third, preferably a fourth

  9. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

When we traded up for Eddie Munster in the 3rd RD I lost my shit!!

  10. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

I was wrong earlier, we took TE Hunter Long in the 3rd, not 4th. Geez

  11. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

I had to go back and look at my final 2021 mock draft. I don’t save all of my mock drafts. I would need a dedicated server for that. lol I do save all of my final mock drafts. I wish we could go back to that draft and make it so. We would be great in the trenches.

I traded down with Eagles for a 2nd and 3rd giving me two 1’s, three 2’s and two 3’s.

    1st round

#12 WR Devonta Smith, IMO he’s = to Waddle

#18 LT Christian Darrisaw, Started since a rookie at LT for the Vikes. We never would have had to sign Armstead in 2022.

    2nd round

#36 C Creed Humphrey, Started since rookie for Chiefs, 2x pro bowler.

#37 DT Christian Barmore, was a beast last year.

#50 OLB/Edge Joseph Ossai, hasn’t panned out to be the stud I thought he would be but is a backup OLB/Edge for Bengals.

#70 S Richie Grant, got drafted at #40 by Falcons.

#81 OG Ben Cleveland, 4 year backup RG for Ravens.

#123 RB Michael Carter, was decent as a rookie for Jets, now backup with Cards

#231 TE Luke Ferrell, went at #145 to Jags

#244 WR Dazz Newsome, went #221 to bears, bouncing around practice squads since.

  12. Brian in NY's avatar Brian in NY says:

from CBSSports – article about the worst QB contracts. Tua’s is 5th worst

Being healthy is the operative phrase with Tagovailoa. And Miami signed him to this four-year extension fully understanding one more concussion very well could end Tagovailoa’s career. He reportedly wants to play again this season if/when he’s medically cleared, which is his prerogative. What happens when he’s back on the field again? A reminder here — Tagovailoa has an “extra” $74 million that is currently guaranteed for injury only from the 2026 and 2027 portions of the deal. If Tagovailoa is concussed again, and the appointed independent doctor declares he can no longer play football — which feels distinctly possible now — the Dolphins will be on the hook for that $74 million.

  40. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

You know it’s a terrible roughing the passer call when the QB that benefitted tells the defender ‘tough call, man’

  41. olddolphan's avatar olddolphan says:

IF Buffalo and the Jets are the two best teams in this division then the only conclusion that can be drawn is that the AFC East REALLY SUCKS!! Neither team really impressed me. In fact, I believe only Buffalo will have a winning record for this regular season. But I don’t think the Bills will have much success in the playoffs. This is NOT surprising, given the fact that the “O” in BUFFALO stands for Super Bowl wins!!

The AFC East Division is ripe for picking. The Patriots are in rebuilding mode. The Jets will drop further behind when Aaron Rodgers gets hurt (again) and decides to retire. The Dolphins are wracked with a senile owner and a front office that’s proved they don’t have a clue. However, that said, the Fins are ONE good draft away from being a legitimate playoff contender. If a change in ownership occurs in Miami, the Dolphins can make a big splash sooner than many of you might believe. BUT, for this to happen, Steve Ross must sell the team.

  42. olddolphan's avatar olddolphan says:

BBM; Your draft, which you listed up the page, is a perfect example of how a team could be greatly improved in just a single draft IF they had the right owner and the right FRONT OFFICE.

    SADLY, the Dolphins have neither.

  43. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

The NFL game is becoming boring. So many plays get called back because of penalties. The refs don’t allow the game to breathe. It’s not fun anymore. Forget the Dolphins, I have no interest in watching other games either.

The way things are setup is causing more injuries and poor play because nobody knows what they’re doing the first few weeks. It’s an ugly sport right now.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

      I agree

Last night wasn’t a good look for the NFL, from the Epinenza sack/roughing to the Allen flop/roughing it’s become a no one knows the rules any longer

It used to be what is a catch, now every aspect of the game is that way

Allen threw one 3rd down incompletion, then kept looking over to the area where the pass occurred to see if a penalty would be called late, like so many other times it was

NFL has too much control over any particular play

  44. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

    Ken,

Not that it matters since our season is over but I think the Adams signing is great for the yets. Don’t be shocked when he miraculously gets healthy and doesn’t have a hamstring issue anymore too.

  47. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Sometimes Omar says something that makes sense.

    @OmarKelly

And if we’re going to be completely honest, the Dolphins don’t draft well enough to be trading players for draft picks.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

drafting is directly related to the system you have in place including FO and HC, shitty system shitty drafting

With that said, Omar’s statement is pretty generic, and what he said goes without saying based on results

  48. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    Tim,

What does that have to do with the move? He’s another very good player who not only has chemistry with the QB but can also be a great influence on the WR room. If they’d had Adam’s running the plays Williams ran last night, they probably win that game. This could be a huge move for the yets. Adams has to perform, but that’s always the case with every trade. If they can keep Rodgers from getting hit, he’s gonna connect with Adams.

Unlike us, the yets are truly going all-in. This is the sort of move you make when you’re all-in. For a 3rd rounder? Easy decision.

  49. Randy's avatar Randy says:

You guys are hilarious. We signed about a dozen worthless WRs and you loved every move. Lol

  50. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    Tim,

I agree, but NY teams get overhyped every year. Nothing new. Hell, people were saying we were a SB team. Overhype is just the rule now. Lol

With that said, they played Buffalo toe-to-toe last night. I think Adams will make them a better team. I still think they’re a flawed team, but a 3rd which might be a 2nd if he balls out…isn’t a big cost to these NFL GMs now who throw around picks like they fall off trees.

  51. Randy's avatar Randy says:

Our problem wasn’t WR either but yet we kept letting other guys go and signing WRs.

jets trade for Adams makes them dangerous, if they can make playoffs, they’ll still only go as far as Rodgers takes them

jets are in a much better situation than we are, with 4 loses now it may be too late on the trade

    • Ken's avatar Ken says:

Disagree. It only increases the dysfunction of the team. They already have Wilson who is younger and arguably better than Adams at this point and Lazard who is a viable number 2. Rogers is done after this year and may already been done physically. He is getting killed behind that OL. The Jets need to rebuild and they just gave away draft capital. Also the Jets will not sniff the playoffs this year

We gave hum great receivers to make him better, and it sorta worked, but it could only take him so far. Yes, injuries are Tua’s weakness, but his ego was too not long ago. Rodgers us the opposite, he thinks he’s God, but ego is ego

  62. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Ken – Rodgers has only played 6 games for the Jets, and now they have Davante Adams, so let’s see where it gets them

If I’m a betting man (which I am not), I’m of the belief that Mike Tomlin is REALLY trying to entice a team to trade for one of their 2 QBs (Russell Wilson or Justin Fields). And IF Russ gets the start on Sunday night against the stej (looking that way), he’s hoping Russ balls out.

And it makes sense, being both QBs are on cheap 1-year deals… they won’t bring back both. Tomlin is SHARP as fuck, and IMO, he’s trying to advertise to US Phins.

Buyer beware. I’d rather not lose a future pick(s) for a one-year fix… who is looking for a new and large contract next season. We can’t afford losing the pick(s), nor extending the QB to a new and large contract next season.

I think we can all agree. Haha. Oh, sorry, that just made me chuckle. But seriously…we can all agree that we hope Adams snaps a tibia falling over Rodgers who’s lying on the ground with a broken clavicle while losing the 17th game of the season 56-0 with a chance to get to the playoffs. Isn’t that how curses work?

Who do we play in game 17?

  65. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

    Randy,

Hearing rumors there might be a fire sale in Duval County if the Jags don’t get their shit together. IYO, would it be wise to trade for G Brandon Scherff if he becomes available?

Ken – that’s because Grier had more patience with Flores than he deserved

  67. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    M13,

I can’t say I’ve seen Scherff play lately, so I’m not sure what sort of player he is. I’m not real interested in bringing in old OL unless they never miss games. I’d say yes to Scherff just because he’s a Hawkeye though. 🙂

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

We need a QB that can get the ball to his receivers. Tua can do that, as long as it’s not a big game, or his brain is scrambled. We don’t need any more receivers

  74. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

I was going to post my final 2022 mock draft after I did my 2021 but didn’t have the time. Here it is:

    3rd round

ILB Leo Chenal, turning into a very solid ILB with 22 starts in 39 games. He was on the board when we selected Tindall. The Chiefs took Chenal right after our pick. I think Wyoming and I were the only ones picking Chenal that year.

    4th Round

OL Zach Tom, he was on the board and we took EZ instead. Zach Tom is the starting RT for GB but he could play anywhere on the OL.

    7th round

DT John Ridgeway, went way earlier in the late 5th, #178. He is a backup DT for the Saints.

QB Skylar Thompson, I got that one right, unfortunately. lol

  75. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Just saying, if Grier had listened to me, our OL last year would have been:

Christian Darrisaw, Zach Tom, Creed Humphrey, Robert Hunt, Austin Jackson

We would have 4 of the 5 this year. Maybe all 5 with not having to spend all that money on Armstead, we might could have kept Hunt.

  76. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Grier’s lack of drafting quality OL in 21′ and 22′ caused me to have a jacked up 2023 mock. The players are good, but I would have drafted differently with a solid OL in place. I did a trade down mock for extra picks last year for the final. Every one of my picks went before we picked except one. My final in 23′:

    C Joe Tippmann

    OT Matthew Bergeron

    TE Breton Strange

    DT Karl Brooks

S Christian Izien, he was the only on on the board and we ended up taking OT Ryan Hayes. Izien was signed as an UDFA by the Bucs. He is a backup safety on their 53 and playing very well. Has 3 INT’s and 2 FF in less than 1.5 seasons as mainly a backup safety.

    OT Jake Witt

This whole draft would have been different if we had a goo OL in place.

I discovered back in 2006 that one can have All-Pros, Pro-Bowlers, and on the cusp of Pro-Bowl talent at the skill positions on Offense… but if the O-Line sucks, one goes NOWHERE.

It’s a fairly simple concept, a concept that I feel every fantasy football person should recognize. If ya can’t run the ball with highly talented RBs behind a defunct O-Line, you’re DOOMED! If ya can’t pass the ball with highly talented QBs to WRs, TEs, and RBs behind a defunct O-Line, you’re DOOMED!

With the Jets loss, we dropped to picking at #13. Tankathon has us taking:

    #13 DT Deone Walker, Kentucky

    #45 QB Garrett Nussmeier, LSU

    #98 OG Jaeden Roberts, Alabama

    #99 TE Oscar Delp, Georgia

I’m not taking a TE in the first 3 rounds unless his name is Tyler Warren. Oscar Delp would be a terrible pick there. Give me TE Mason Taylor or TE Terrance Ferguson, Oregon in the 5th.

I would even take TE Caden Prieskorn or converted TE Orande Gadsden II even later.

The first 3 picks here would be solid though as it fills 3 needs.

  82. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Mid October Mock Draft (Used PFN this time) I think their player rankings are a bit off. Like, I don’t think TE Mason Taylor lasts to the 7th. I like it though. Trade down:

    30. Garrett Nussmeier QB LSU

    45. Tyler Warren TE Penn State

    62. Nick Emmanwori S South Carolina

    94. Jaeden Roberts OG Alabama

    98. Danny Stutsman ILB Oklahoma

    99. Cobee Bryant CB Kansas

    114. Luke Kandra OG Cincinnati

    151. Yahya Black DT Iowa

    152. Thor Griffith DT Louisville

    228. Mason Taylor TE LSU

    233. Jamaree Caldwell DT Oregon

    251. Squirrel White WR Tennessee

    2026 HOU 5th

Tripled down on DT. Kind of a weak draft there. If not, I would have doubled down on QB with Will Howard from OSU.

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

S Nick Emmanwori is growing on me more and more. He’s 6’3 227 and runs a projected 4.38 forty. He has 38 tackles and 2 INT’s (1 pick 6) in 6 games this year. He had another 100 yard pick 6 called back on the return due to a blindside block.

It doesn’t matter if Tua comes back. Teams have now figured out how to stop our offense, and MM doesn’t seem capable of counterpunching. Tua is not the answer and never has been. He’s extremely limited, and he isn’t capable of doing anything else to win games. I’d already have a plan in place for moving forward without him. Tua can’t be the difference in tough games against good opponents, and you have to have that nowadays. The NFL almost demands it.

Our offense didn’t look like shit because Tua was out. It looked like shit WITH him at QB this year, and it looked like shit because MM couldn’t adjust and do anything differently when Tua went out. It was embarrassing.

Getting into the playoffs isn’t impressive. You can do it with a 58 win %. Almost half the teams in the league make the playoffs. Getting in and getting your ass kicked doesn’t fill me with hope.

  86. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    BBM,

I am not a great TE mind…and all Iowa TEs look the same to me…but Lachey may be a guy we could land in the mid rounds. If he’s there in, say, the 5th, he might be really good value if he turns out like other Iowa TEs. If we’re gonna draft one, Iowa TEs are usually at the least solid NFL players. He’s a good to really good receiver. He’s an above average blocker who I think could get better with a little time working on his lower body strength. He’s not a great athlete, but he’s not a plodder either. He’s not gonna beat coverage with his athleticism, but he is a pretty good route runner. Frankly, he is a carbon copy of LaPorta…and Kittle…and Clark…and Fant…and Hockenson…and about 8 others. Lol

  89. New Age's avatar New Age says:

    Randy,

I think Tua would be ok if the offense was a better built unit and McD a better coach. Not amazing, not a gamechanger, but good enough to win a lot of games. This offense is just too gimmicky, and they wasted so many picks and FA signings on stuff that doesn’t win games. Detroit built their OL and they have been in the thick of things the past 3 years. It’s not hard. Jared Goff is not great. They just built a very solid team. Same with Minny and Sam Darnold. Same with TB and smallish Mayfield. SF and Mr. Irrelevant.

It’s just like modern business. They all try to use DEI, diversity, and bunch of other garbage lingo when the basics of success are old, tried, and true. You don’t cut corners. You don’t try to change everything because you’re smarter than everyone else. You put in the work; you win the prize.

  90. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    New Age,

Dan Campbell and MM are polar opposites. This group would never build a team in that fashion. It’s not gonna happen.

I agree with Randy and New Age about constructing a solid foundation on both sides of the ball, incuding ST.

After witnessing the last 3 years of this latest team renovation to one with speed/softness all over the field and almost believing it might work, I think you have look at today’s results, i.e. 2-3.

MM didn’t look or appear stoned to me (you people crack me up), he looked shell-shocked, imo. His master plan (first-time head coach thinking) had master holes, for example, the trenches on both sides of ball are weak/soft (imo, winning football starts there).

The OL can’t push the pile, can’t protect the QB or only allows time for quick reads and side to side plays. Our 3rd and 4th down conversions are among the bottom in the league. TECHNIQUE and GIMMICKS (speedy, smallish, shiny toys) aren’t enough to overcome well built solid DLs that run through our OL.

Then, couple poor protection with a system that is built for one type of QB (tailor-made for flag football) and you lose that QB, you have failed to build an offense for success.

MM’s PTSD state is palpable, imo, and he doesn’t seem to understand his concepts have fundamentally compromised the team’s ability to be successful against well built defenses in all conditions, including weather and temperature.

The O has been built on a house of cards, imo, as evidenced by where the team is today, 2-3, with a QB one hit away from retirement.

STs are a joke. I don’t know how Crossman still has a job. Is that too negatve? Or, should I look at the results? Lol!

I have no idea what our D ranks in any category, but, if I had to guess, the unit’s on the field time is probably greater than most other teams in the league. Part of that blame should also be contributed to the O going 3 and out a lot.

I don’t see negative thinking involved here. I see objective assessments based on the team’s results to date….lol.

Maybe, it gets turned around. Hope springs eternal, or something like that.. lol.

  96. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Tim – We are 2 -3, but you watched the games, we’re fucking horrible. The offense is not an NFL unit, and it doesn’t matter whether it’s Huntley, Thompson or Tua. They’ve all been terrible for us. The run game could be great if we could block and not have 5 penalties each and every drive. The passing game is a joke, and although Tua will probably be better than Huntley or Thompson, is his timing going to be spot on after missing 6 weeks, and then just how long does he last? Is his next QB sack his last play in the NFL if he takes a hit? I don’t want to operate like that and I swear I will abandon this team if they don’t draft a QB to replace Tua next season.
