2024 Season – Game 13 – Jets @ Dolphins

24 years now Dolphins fans, T-W-E-N-T-Y * F-O-U-R * Y-E-A-R-S !! That’s how long it will shortly be that the Miami Dolphins haven’t won a playoff game. This year, the touted Super Bowl bound Miami Dolphins will fail to make the playoffs altogether. I know I’m guilty of doing this all to often, and I apologize in advance for telling people how to “fan”, or how to root for their team. It’s wrong, and many times I can only value my own wretched point of view while castigating others for theirs. Again, I’m sorry. You know who you are, but you also know who I am, so today I’m as per usghe, just presenting my view, so you can just skip it if offends you in any way.

I don’t like the NY Jets, although I don’t despise them as much as many people on this forum do. When the Jets are playing even worse than us, which is really saying something, I hate them even less. Do you know what I hate more? I hate our own team and organization’s ineptitude and failures 100X more than any hate I can muster against the NY Jets, it’s not even close. Not a political statement, but in this past election on November 5, America voted for change. That’s exactly where I’m at right now. I’m voting for change, despite the fact that I hold no vote to do so, so I use my proxy here on this blog. In order to enact change, or at least have the hope to do so, we need failure here in Miami. This season is toast, we’re not a playoff team and our record will say so at the end of the season as well. I’m not talking “tanking” here, we’re more than capable of losing without trying to.

If you haven’t figured it out yet, I want the Dolphins to lose this Sunday. Not just lose, I want embarrassment. I want this grounded NY Jets offense to fly high and I want this Dolphins offense to make believe it’s 30 degrees or colder or that we’re actually playing a playoff caliber NFL team and this game actually matters. Tua can throw for 400 yards and have a completion percentage of 80% as long as he doesn’t throw a TD, because some people enjoy that. Again, my remorse for telling you how to “fan”. I feel like a good old fashioned ass whooping by the visiting NY Jets would be a good wake up call to Steve Ross that this team simply cannot stay on the same path next season and beyond. The Aaron Rodgers led Jets just can’t take flight, and are averaging a paltry 18.8 PPG, good for 26th in the NFL. This, in lieu of having what is a top 3 NFL running back in Breece Hall. Hey, guess what team is remarkably close in both categories, points scored and points allowed? Right! Good guess! Yes, our Dolphins are scoring 19.2 PPG, good for 24th, and the Jets are 15th in the NFL on defense allowing 268 points or 22.3 PPG, while our Dolphins have allowed 266 points good for 14th in the NFL.

My plan is not about improving our draft position, no it’s far more than that. That would be a nice by product of losing, but again, this is about change. There are quite a few of us here on FMU who believe that Chris Grier can’t be the one shopping for the groceries any longer, and probably an equal amount of us feel HC Mike McDaniel is out of his league as an NFL Head Coach. His novel approach of befriending all the players has worn thin, and when it comes down to X’s and O’s, he’s failed miserably there too, especially when playing against better teams. We look woefully unprepared, and this roster is not physical enough anywhere, not anywhere on offense or defense are we able to match up against a physical team. Like I said, getting walloped by our division rival who come in at 3-9 would be a real good start to have the word change floating around in Dolphins owner Stephen Ross’s head. He’s been patient, but if this team finished under .500, after assembling a roster he was sold as being a team built to go to the Super Bowl, his patience may diminish enough to go ahead and enact said change.

I literally sit at my computer right now and cringe at the thought that Chris Grier and Mike McDaniel might be the duo crafting our 2025 draft, with10 picks, our own 1st and 2nd RD picks, potentially two 3rd RD compensatory picks, (we traded our own 3rd RD pick to draft RB Jaylen Wright to PHI), our own 4th RD pick, two 5th RD picks, our own, and a pick from DEN in the Bradley Chubb trade, Zero 6th RD pick (Traded to CHI for WR Chase Claypool), and finally, three 7th RD picks, our own, a compensatory pick for S DeShon Elliot and then (7th RD pick from the Chase Claypool trade). 10 very, very important picks, especially considering how many expired 1 year contracts we’ll have, and how awful this roster was constructed in general.

Let’s start with this mind numbing fact. Over $90M of our cap space for next season will be used by QB Tua Tagovailoa, WR Tyreek Hill, and WR Jaylen Waddle. Our amazing WR duo has contributed in this 2024 season 100 combined receptions for 1255 yards and 6 TD’s, and that’s with QB Tua Tagovailoa playing in 8 games. We’re paying in insane amount of money on 3 players which precludes us from spending on talent elsewhere on the roster. I don’t care how you “fan”, you can see that our QB needs a significant amount of talent to be successful, meaning we need a better O-line, and we’re going to need a much better defense as well, but how on earth can we accomplish this with the same two knuckleheads in charge of buying and scouting the groceries. Quick example before my next point. We trade our 2025 3rd RD pick to move into the 4th RD to get RB Jaylen Wright. In 12 games, Wright has 59 carries for 243 yards, zero TD’s. This reeks of “Mikey Tradey Pants Tannenbaum”. It’s not like we haven’t had injuries either. RB Raheem Mostert has been banged up and missed a couple of games and only has 7 more carries than Wright. De’Von Achane is logging in some workhorse RB numbers, while Wright and his 4th RD pick as well as next year’s 3rd RD pick languish on the bench. Achane has been overused, and Wright has been utterly under utilized.

I think the luster of Head Coach Mike McDaniel has worn off. I know this going to irk some here, apologies once again. He’s a Tua cheerleader. The problem is, he’s not a Miami Dolphins cheerleader. He’s done whatever he could to make Tua the best QB he can be. This dink and dunk offense we’re running now is a stark contrast to the high flying offense we ran last season. To be fair, that high flying offense didn’t play well against the better teams, and I think the dink and offense travels better and also keeps the QB out of harms way better too. We have struggled immensely though scoring TD’s, and part of that, no doubt, is the absence of those deep plays. Long drives keep the defense off the field and eat clock, but you have to get into the endzone. Offensive guard play has been an issue here with essentially 2 backups starting, Robert Jones at LG and Liam Eichenberg at RG. Losing RT Austin Jackson hurt as well, especially in the run game. RT Kendall Lamm may actually be equal or better in pass protection, but Jackson was a better run blocker, and we’ve struggled with him out. LG Isaiah Wynn is off IR and has been practicing, but word from MM is Robert Jones will remain the starter. OLB Bradley Chubb is off the PUP and his 21 day practice window is open. Whether either of these players will see any playing time remains to be seen.

I count 35 players under contract for ’25, but there are at least 8 that probably won’t play a game for us next season. LT Terron Armstead, CB Cam Smith, LB Channing Tindall, QB Skylar Thompson, TE Tanner Conner, TE Julian Hill, WR Tahj Washington, DE Grayson Murphy and WR Odell Beckham. Then there are the players who you simply can’t count on making it through any number of games, like OLB Jaelan Phillips, OLB Bradley Chubb, 33 year old RB Raheem Mostert, and of course, QB Tua Tagovailoa. So we lets say we have about 27-30 players assuming I’m wrong about a few, and then you have 3 players who are consistently injured, that means the majority of the roster will be new and counted on heavily next season. I feel it’s unacceptable to go forward with Grier and McDaniel and allow them to shape the majority of this roster, unconscionable actually. Drafting has not been Grier’s strong suit, and he’s overpaid heavily in the wrong areas of the roster. Find me one team that’s legitimately competing to get into the Superbowl that has two WR’s eating the 2 of the top 5 spots against the cap? What I can find very easily for you though is teams that doled out mega money contracts to their QB’s and regret it. NY Jets (Aaron Rodgers), Cleveland Browns (Deshaun Watson), Jacksonville Jaguars (Trevor Lawrence), Denver Broncos (Russell Wilson), Dallas Cowboys (Dak Prescott), NY Giants (Daniel Jones), and Atlanta Falcons (Kirk Cousins).

Again, not telling you how to “fan”, but I don’t want to root for a QB who accumulates wonderful statistics such as completion percentage and yardage totals. Those statistics on their own merit don’t win you football games. You have to score points, and we did score over 30 points per game against the weaker competition just like we did last year as well, but turn up the level of competition, and precisely like last season, same result. You look solely at the stat line, you’d think Tua had a magnificent game. 37-46, 365 yards, 2 TD’s. In reality though, we had 3 points through 13 minutes into the 3rd Quarter, and we when we scored our first TD, the score was already 27-3 with about 2 minutes left in the 3rd quarter. On the long drive where we settled for 3 down 14-0, that was the time to score a TD and keep the team in the game. Tua actually played his best with the game out of reach at 30-8, and the TD we cored there was a very lucky tipped pass that ended up in the hands of WR Tyreek Hill in the endzone. The stats are so extremely misleading, and I take no solace, zero, in the fact that Tua may finish with the highest completion percentage ever by a QB in the NFL if he qualifies after missing 4 games. IDGAF!!!!! Just get me wins! Dak Prescott, the NFC’s version of Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa has some wonderful stats on his resume, over 31,000 yards passing, nearly a 3:1 TD:INT ratio (213-82), a career 66.8% completion percentage. (Tua is at 68%), but Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys can’t win big games either. In playoff games, Dak is 2-5, and his TD:INT ratio drops to a still pretty good 2:1. Tua just hasn’t won big games later in the season and mostly against better competition. These are facts, and are not debatable, his record is abysmal.

If we’re going to march forward with QB Tua Tagovailoa at the helm, then we’re going to have to significantly improve the talent level here, fortify the trenches on both sides of the ball. This is going to be a nearly impossible task with us having no cap space, and far too many roster spots to fill. Beating the NY Jets this Sunday may bring joy to some, but to others like myself, misery. It will make Stephen Ross smile if we whoop on the hapless jets while it won’t mean a damn thing for our season, or the future of our team. A loss would be much preferred to get the wheels in motion that the status quo is a failure, just as country decided the very same with current regime in power from 2020-2024. They simply couldn’t tolerate 4 more years of the same, and I can’t tolerate on more extremely important year due to the current state of our roster with so few players under contract. This isn’t a roster fill in year, no, this practically an entire roster overhaul, and I don’t want to watch GM Chris Grier and HC Mike McDaniel continue to f*ck it up!

Rock has said 100,000,000 times. The problem is Grier and his high dollar FA acquisitions and losing draft picks in acquiring them, then not drafting the right players/positions with what picks are left.

Ok, Grier is getting what MM wants. Well, a smart GM should know better what the team NEEDS more than a rookie HC. If BB was the HC of this team, we would be solid in the trenches on both sides of the ball.

Patriots sucked last year but 8 of their losses were by 1 score including to Dolphins in week 2 way before any injuries started. They beat the Bills and only lost to KC by 10. Why? BB always made sure they were strong in the trenches and it keeps them in games.

  2. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Sam Darnold is suddenly a good QB or was he always decent but on a team with a poor OL. He’s having a career year because the Vikings built a very good OL and defense.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Or did he just play for 2 terrible teams? Put Tua on the Jets and I wouldn’t expect him to be any better than Rodgers, if he even makes it through the season

  3. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Steelers are 10-3 leading their division by 2 games. Is it because of Russell Wilson? Hell no! His last win he completed 57.7% of his passes for 158 yards. It’s because the Steelers have built a great OL, kept/resigned their great defensive players, added to them through the draft and have not spent any big $$ in free agency. I think their biggest FA acquisition was ILB Patrick Queen at a reasonable 3 years 41 million.

Perfect example is DT Cameron Heyward playing his 14 season, his 14th season AS A STEELER. That’s unheard of! They were financially able to resign TJ Watt and Minkah FF. They have 57 million in cap to start 2025 and have their entire starting DL and entire OL under contract for that year. They only have about 3-4 starter positions to fill (one being QB though, lol).

    BBM,

That’s because as Tomlinson said, Pitt isn’t a QB centric team.

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

I could see that. The way the are set up now, they could bring in a number of vet QB’s and have this success.

My guess is they sign at good vet and draft one this go around. They may reach for someone to make sure they get their guy. I think in 1st or 2nd they take Allar, Rourke, Dart or Gabriel. Hopefully they would F up and take Beck in the 1st.

  6. Randy's avatar Randy says:

why does my iPad insist on changing Tomlin to Tomlinson?

  7. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Damn, as soon as I said this, “Hopefully they would F up and take Beck in the 1st.” I went and looked at Tankathon. They have our 1st pick at #13 and have us taking:

    #14 Jalon Walker OLB/Edge Georgia

#49 TJ Sanders DT South Carolina

    #98 Carson Beck QB Georgia

    #99 Ajani Cornelius OT Oregon

    NO on Beck!!

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

I know nothing about RT Ajani Cornelius but:

“In the NFL, Cornelius is likely to find success in an offense that emphasizes quick passing and zone running concepts, allowing him to maximize his strengths in pass protection and lateral movement. His ability to anchor against power rushers will be valuable in passing situations, while his nasty streak in the run game will endear him to coaches looking to establish a physical identity up front.”

Maybe he could do well moving inside to RG. He’s not too tall at 6’5 and 315 pounds.

    • Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

      Fucking NO on Beck! Lol

  8. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

The Steelers had Big Ben for over a decade. They haven’t won anything since. So not buying they’re not a QB centric team. Every team is.

  9. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    Tim,

That’s what Tomlin said. You can argue with him about it if you like.

  10. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Anyway, I wasn’t done with the Steelers even though I hate them.

Not only have they retained their own but always address need in the draft and build their trenches. 4 of 5 starting OL were drafted by the Steelers. It would be 5 of 5 but Troy Fantanu who they drafted in the 1st round this year was to start at LG but went to IR.

In 2021, they drafted their current starting LT. In 2022, they addressed QB and WR but did add a starter to the DL in DT DeMarvin Leal who they lost to IR this year. In 2023, they drafted their starting RT in the 1st in Broderick Jones and in the 2nd round added another starter on the DL in DT/NT Keeanu Benton. This past draft, they address their entire IOL by drafting Troy Fantanu in the 1st, their starting center Zach Frazier in the 2nd round, then draft their starting RG Mason McCormick in the 4th round. They weren’t done with the trenches though and added another solid backup DT Logan lee.

They have drafted 4 starting OL in the last 2 drafts and drafted 2 starting DL in the last 3 drafts.

  11. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

Solved it! Here is the problem!

  12. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

In the last 10 years, the Dolphins have only drafted 2 OL in the first round and that is when we had three 1st round picks and drafted Austin Jackson. Tunsil in 2016.

In the last 10 years, the Dolphins have drafted 3 OL in the second round. One of them, Liam Eichenberg, we drafted in the 2nd but gave up a 2022 3rd round pick to move up for him. The other 2 are Patrick Paul and Robert Hunt.

In the last 10 years, the Dolphins have drafted only 1 OL in the third round in 2019, Michael Deiter.

In the last 10 years, the Dolphins have drafted only 2 OL in the 4th round in 2020, Solomon Kindley and Jamil Douglas in 2015

In the last 10 years, the Dolphins have drafted only 2 DT’s in the top 4 rounds, Christian Wilkins(1st) and Raekwon Davis(2nd).

In the last 10 years, the Dolphins had 37 picks in the top 4 rounds of the draft. Out of those 36 picks, 10 went to the OL or DL. Only 2 of the 10 are still with the team and only 1 is a quality starter.

In the last 4 drafts, due to owner tampering and GM trading picks away, the dolphins have only had 12 total picks in the top 4 rounds. Only 2 of those were spent on the OL, Patrick Paul and Liam Eichenburg and DL, no one.

Grier and MM think they can make the OL and DL work through cheap FA’s and it won’t.

    • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

I have actually been pleasantly surprised by our OL this season, but then thought it might be a disaster coming in. But even with Tua going away from the ultra quick release and to going through the progressions instead — it has held up. Though controlling the trenches for the running game might be more of a problem.

But yeah OL should be a focus in the off season. Even if will note that drafting Tunsil in 2016 might have been the best draft pick in team history other than Marino.

      • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Stanger, That’s the problem though. They are trying to “just make it work” in the trenches instead trying to be dominant up front.

If we didn’t have guys like Seiler and Campbell giving their all on the DL, we’d be talking right now who we are going to take with the 1st overall pick.

Seiler is the ONLY DL under contract for 2025 and he will be 30. With his high snap, who knows how much longer he will be able to play at this level. This year he is on track to play more snaps than he did last year.

Him and Wilkins ran out of gas the end of last year. It will happen again this year with him and Campbell. Campbell has already played 10% more snaps than what was projected at the start. They will run out of gas when we are trying to win out.

      • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

You switched from OL to DL, but I’ve also like how we get pressure on with just 4 this year. Don’t blitz much. But yeah we could use some Big Uglies at DT as well. Come next season both Chubb and Phillips should be lining up game one. That’s a huge difference in the front seven. If anything I’m more worried about the secondary.

Tua will probably be the league MVP, after all, completion percentage is usually the criteria they value the most

No Krishna, c’mon man, you know completion percentage is tops. All the guys here keep bringing it up so it must be something. Wins don’t matter, and it’s not fair to expect your $200M QB to play well against good teams or win games that either get you into the playoffs, or actually win or even play well in a playoff game. Yards and completion percentage are most important.

      • Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

Very good watch. Guy is talking about what I’ve been talking about now for a couple of months, particularly the Guard play of our Phins.

Everybody seems to be very slowly coming to the conclusion that I (and a few others here like BB Mike and Old Dolfan) cited very early on.

And PLEASE note when he talks about our running game against 2-deep Safeties. We should be KILLING it in the run game against 2-deep Safeties, but our O-Line sucks (PARTICULARLY our IOL). Achane and Mostert didn’t suddenly *forget* how to run the football, y’all. I’ve been pounding this point home for months.

If we can run the football, dammit, we can get one of the 2-deep Safeties to come up into the box… then we could bomb away if necessary.

Houston is very susceptible to the deep ball. If we’re ever gonna get back to getting deep routes, the Texans are the team to do it against.

Nic Scourton (fka: Nic Caraway from Perdue), EDGE, Texas A&M, 6’4″, 280 pounds. This kid moves like he’s 245 pounds with a crazy spin-move.

If he’s available when we pick in the 1st round, gotta consider him. Need to do more homework on him vs the run, but at first glance… STUD.

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

He is a stud and a disruptor

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

I think he will be there in the 2nd round. Though this draft doesn’t have a lot of pass rushers so I think he could go in the 1st.

I remember him from Purdue, but haven’t watched him at A&M. His biggest issue at Purdue was being somewhat out of control and falling down. Also, getting there but not finishing the tackle. If dude could manage to stay on his feet, he would of had 18 sacks his last year at Purdue. His run D is decent from what I remember.

      Watch his Purdue tape.

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

He reminds me a lot of Isaiah McGuire the Browns drafted in the 4th round this past draft. Though Scouton seems quicker and a better pass rusher than McGuire but McGuire has better control and is a better tackler.

  21. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Randy, you are right about Houston being susceptible to the deep ball. Hopefully, Patrick Paul and Lamm can control Danielle Hunter and Will Anderson long enough to take a shot down field. They both are having a great year. I think 20 sacks between the 2 of them.

It’s our secondary I worry about this next game. Diggs is on IR but they still have Collins, Dell, Metchie and Woods. If our secondary plays like it did vs the jets we are in trouble.

  22. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

An OL to watch during the college playoffs is Oregon LT Josh Conerly. He’s solid in pass pro, athletic and a decent run blocker. He should be available in the 2nd round. He compares to OT Troy Fantanu who the Steelers drafted to play LG.

He’s 6’4, 315 pounds and I think he could be a stud a LG for us.

  23. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Sorry Brian/M13. I am hearing many draft sites saying Tyler Warren is TE1 on many early draft boards and likely to be the first TE off the board. They say his skills are = to Brock Bowers but Warren is a better blocker. One went on to say he is the best all around TE in the last decade. Wow

  24. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

The IOL group this next draft is not that strong. Especially compared to last year. I have started looking at some OT’s who would be good to move inside. The top one IMO would be Texas LT Kelvin Banks who is 6’4, 320 pounds. Though, he might be the second best OT in the draft and we would have to use our 1st to get him. He probably won’t even be there when we pick. He’s that good.

  25. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

I am trying to stay away from the playoff scenario BS and focus on the draft so I don’t make Hulk mad. lol

  26. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

I really don’t want to go IOL with our 1st pick which I think will be between 13 and 18. Though, we will have the worst SOS of any team so we will get the higher pick than any other team we are tied with. I predict we will pick at #15 after finishing 9-8. Picks #19 and later are for teams who make the playoffs.

  27. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Thinking about the draft and where we are. MM is not going anywhere, Tua will be our QB, we will still have Hill, Waddle and both Washington’s at WR, Jannu, Smythe and Hill at TE, Achane, Wright and Mostert at RB and Paul, Brewer, Jackson on the OL. Everything will still be in place on O. We just need some stud OG’s and a good vet backup QB.

With that said, we need to find a starter on defense with our 1st pick. We need a defense that can dominate and keep giving the ball back to our offense.

  28. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Defensive returning starters are CB’s Ramsey and Fuller, ILB Brooks, OLB Chop and Phillips?? and DT Seiler. THAT’S IT!!!

About 85% of our free agency targets and 60% of our draft need to be focused on defense. Of course, we won’t have hardly any cap so we have to spend wisely.

On the DL, I don’t think Campbell will come back especially at a bargain price. Some solid FA DT’s who I think won’t cost too much are:

DT Javon Kinlaw, 6’5 319, cost around 5 mil
NT Tedarrell Slaton, 6’4 330, cost around 2 mil
Both clog the line and solid run defenders.

Then maybe resign Hand at the minimum. They seem to like him.

  29. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Then we have to replenish at ILB. Again, having to find bargains I would look at:

Willie Gay, 6’1 243, former Chiefs ILB who signed 1yr 3 mil deal with Saints

Devin Bush, 5’11 235, former Steeler ILB signed 1yr 1.5 mil deal with Browns

Devin White, 6′ 237, former Buc ILB, was on 1yr 4 mil deal with eagles but struggling with ankle injury and released then picked up by Texans.

I think we can also bring Anthony Walker back on the cheap.

I also think, if we want a dominant D, we need 2 vet ILB’s starting and not Brooks and a rookie trying to learn. But definitely draft one.

  30. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Safety is going to be the most expensive because like the DL we need 2 starters. McMorris has only played 29 special team snaps so far in his NFL career and recorded no tackles yet.

How expensive will Holland be? Who knows. The FS pool is very thin as far as free agents. We would probably be better off signing a replacement for Poyer then drafting a FS who could come in and start like Malaki Starks from Georgia or Xavier Watts from ND.

    Some free agent safties:

Jeremy Chinn, coming off 1yr 4 mil deal with Commanders

Richie Grant, coming off his rookie deal with Falcons who lost his starting job to Justin Simmons.

Julian Blackmon, coming off 1yr 3.8 mil deal with Colts

Trevon Moehrig, coming off rookie deal with Raiders but probably cost as much or more than Holland.

  31. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

So with all that said, with our first pick I am drafting:

NT/DT Kenneth Grant, 6’3, 339 pounds, athletic for his size

S Malaki Starks, 6’1, 205, projected sub 4.4 forty, graded at 99% in run D and 98% in tackling. Grades well in coverage also.

S Nik Emmanwori, FREAK, 6’3, 227 pounds, projected 4.38 forty. Grades in mid 90’s in all categories.

DT Walter Nolan, 6’3, 305 pounds, would be my next target but maybe in a slight trade down from #15.

  32. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

The quickness of Kenneth Grant at 6’3 339 is fun to watch. Some say he runs close to a 4.9 forty at that size.

  36. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

    BB Mike,

I concur, our 1st pick should be a Defensive player… and probably on the D-Line. I wanted to accomplish that last Draft with Johnny Newton in the 1st round, though he fell to the early 2nd round.

My 2nd round pick from last Draft was between Cooper Beebe and Christian Haynes, but I ultimately chose Haynes… who is NOT having a good season for the Seahawks. I touted Cooper Beebe on X/Twitter so hard that Beebe’s father still follows me to this day. Strange how both fell to the 3rd round last draft.

I’m probably going to follow the same ‘recipe’ this upcoming Draft: Defense with our 1st rounder and OG with our 2nd rounder. And YES… our Defense needs to be given more attention than our Offense, IMO.

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Oh, and WHY did I go with Haynes over Beebe? I figured Haynes was going to be a strict RG (which we strictly needed after signing Aaron Brewer to be our Center), while Beebe was always likely to become an NFL Center… not that he can’t play Guard at a high level.

BBM, I’d be very happy if we drafted Grant. Is he not a top 10 guy?

    ————–

The other Michigan DT Mason Graham is considered top 10, maybe top 5. They are both studs. Graham has a nonstop motor. Grant can have stamina issues. Though, with the # of snaps we play with the NT in, I think that would be a non issue even in the Miami heat.

Especially if we can get some decent DL in FA like Kinlaw and Slaton. With Grant’s quickness, he’s not just a NT. A rotation of Seiler, Kinlaw, Slaton, Grant and Hand would be nice.

I wouldn’t mind doubling down on the DL in the draft. There are some really good DL available on day 2. Walter Nolan probably goes 1st round also. On day 2 we should have these guys available:

DT TJ Sanders, 6’4 290, South Carolina

DT Derrrick Harmon, 6’4 310, Oregon

DT Tyleik Williams, 6’3 327, Ohio State

DT Alfred Collins, 6’5 330, Texas

DT Deone Walker, 6’6 345, Kentucky

    DT Omarr Norman-Lott, 6’3 315, Tennessee

There’s also some good early day 3 talent.

Drinking beerssss tonight. Wife is out of town. So I’m a little bored. Just got done watching an 1 hour 40 min Tucker Carlson interview with Dr. Mark Hyman on the food industry. It was very interesting. I know many don’t like Tucker but he is different since leaving FOX. Still has his annoying quirks though, like his laugh. lol

Anyway, question, is Jalen Ramsey falling off or is his struggles have to do with a new system and miscommunication?

From an article from Adam Beasley:

“In 2024, Ramsey has allowed 37 of 54 passes thrown in his coverage area to be completed for 417 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions.”

“Ramsey’s 68.5% catch rate allowed is his worst as a pro.”

“Not included in those figures: The five accepted penalties Ramsey has committed, including two DPIs (one for 40 yards) and two defensive holdings.”

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

The Dolphins can’t move on from Ramsey in 2025 nor would I want to. He’s still too good IMO. I think it is the system. Only way financially is with a post 6/1 trade. Any other way and they lose a ton of cap.

Though, it will be very easy to move on from him in 2026. He would cost a team only 10 mil a year for 26′ and 27′.

  40. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Tua hired security to watch his home while the team is away playing in Houston. Apparently it is South American illegal alien gang members robbing the homes of top paid athletes while away on games. Imagine that. lol

  41. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    BBM,

Grant looks a little soft physically, so I’d hope that once he got in the pros he’d be more fit and have better stamina. He’s not just a nose guard though. I think he can play from 0 to 3.

I always wonder about a kid’s discipline and commitment when they aren’t fit but lots of times it’s just a matter of maturity and being a pro. I don’t care how fast he is. He’s quick, and he’s got pretty good hands. He doesn’t like to play patty cake with guys. He sheds them and moves past. He’s gonna need some refinement, but what rookie doesn’t?

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Randy, I 100% agree. He is young and has been successful but the NFL is a whole different level. I think he can make that jump to being a “pro” if we have the right mentors for him.

I had the same doubts about Tedarrell Slaton. He got drafted by the Packers and has been a stud for them at the nose since. Slaton missed the game against the Dolphins this year but played this past week. It’s all about the individual and what route they take.

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

I do like his DL versatility. I think over time if he becomes more conditioned he could be a dominant force.

Man, I absolutely LOVE Tucker’s spaz laugh!!! It gets me every time! 😀

I’ve been a fan of his since his days of wearing a bowtie. I’ll have to check his interview with Dr. Hyman on the food industry… sounds very interesting.

  43. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

One of my closest friends visited his brother in Germany over the summer. Upon returning, he told me he ate like a pig over there (the food was that good!) and he actually lost weight.

Reason he lost weight? In Europe, they don’t have the BS additives in their food like we have here in the USA. Some of our globetrotters here can probably attest to as much. Yes… we have a HUGE problem when it comes to our food. Lets all hope RFK Jr can make America healthy again.

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

It’s time to get sugar (particularly corn syrup) under control in this country. And we’ve got to get away from overly-processed foods. Europe’s standards are far healthier than our own.

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

This will be a very delicate process as we still want CHOICE. For example, I don’t want our government to outlaw beef… to replace it with fake meat injected with estrogen.

Now if we go really simple and limit the sugar and chemicals that go into our food, I think that’s a really good idea.

  44. stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Texans are favored by 3 at home, which means a push on a neutral field. Maybe we have earned back some respect with the bettors at least.

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Yessir! The bettors are taking us seriously now. As of late, we are one of the hottest teams in the NFL.

I feel if we get Bradley Chubb back this Sunday — at least in some capacity, even on a limited snap-count — we can force CJ Stroud into mistakes.

I don’t think our current Secondary matches very well with their receiving corps, but our pass-rushing prowess may be the deciding factor this Sunday.

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

And wouldn’t it be something if Mo Kamara has a breakout game!

      • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

The bettors won with us against the Jets, but what a ride that must have been for them. We only won by 6 cause it went to overtime….. and before that was looking like would not happen.

DId you know Tucker was attacked by demons and has the scars to prove it? That’s not from The Onion, Tucker’s own words…

    ———-

Yes, I know of this. I just went up the page to realize you’d responded. I truly DO believe Tucker, as crazy as it sounds.

Stanger, I’ve had unfortunate situations in my life — albeit very, very few — by which I KNOW that evil spirits exist. I don’t believe Tucker is making this thing up. I mean, what would he have to gain by making up such a lie? To make people think he’s crazy? That’s just BAD business!

Perhaps one day, when we meet in person, I’ll be able to share some of my experiences with you, my friend.
