2024 Season – Game 17 – Dolphins @ Jets

The 2024 Season Finale! Still alive for a playoff berth, and the Miami Dolphins appear to be starting backup QB Tyler “Snoop’ Huntley. Yes, once again, our $212.4M man is unable to take the field, despite the importance of winning this game to stay alive for a chance at being in the postseason. I’m not an optimistic fella, but if I were, I’d be seething that my starting QB is once again missing in an important game. This has been QB Tua Tagovailoa’s modus operandi since he’s been here. He’s either missed the playoff games, or you would have wished he’d missed the game because he played so poorly. I mentioned this important aspect quite a few times here, the man played last season in bubble wrap. This season, it took just 2 runs outside the pocket for Tua to get injured in both situations. The first time was against the Bills of his own volition, where the first down was already secured but he engaged the defender (Buffalo Bills S Damar Hamlin) and that aggressive play resulted in Tua missing 4 games, and since Tua himself had a 1-1 record before the injury, the Dolphins lost 3 of 4 and were at a critical point with a record of 2-5. I’ll get to this later in the article, but the Dolphins were just basically throwing guys out there after being here for a week, and we’re talking about players on other team’s practice squad, that had no experience in HC Mike McDaniel’s offense, and of course, Mike didn’t at the very least appear to streamline and simplify the offense for either backup QB Skylar Thompson or even more importantly, Tyler Huntley and Tim Boyle.

The Dolphins then faced off in Week 15 against the Houston Texans, and again, our QB was injured during a QB run. Not a designed run, escaping pressure and running for yardage, as most NFL QB’s do at least once or twice in any given game. Our QB though, well, he shows you why he needs to stay in that good ole bubble wrap, because he gets tackled by 2 defenders, one of them seems to make pretty good contact on his bad hip, and guess what? Yep! He’s out again. It’s as clear as day to this author that you simply can’t count on this QB, in any way. He’ll wipe the field with the weaker teams, throw up some gaudy stats, and he’ll even find a way to put up some garbage time gaudy stats in a blowout loss to the Green Bay Packers. If you watched that game, you know we never threatened the Packers on offense, we were down 27-3 late in the 3rd quarter and scored 14 points with the game out of reach and already decided, losing 30-17. If you just look at Tua’s stats, you might think we won this one, 37-46, 365 yards and 2 TD, 0 INT’s. Unfortunately, he’s become a stat compiler. He really came alive with the Packers playing a soft defense allowing us to dink and dunk and use the clock up and down the field with the game already decided. If you want to see what Tua is really about. Big game, playing a competitive team after putting a whooping on the disinterested NY Jets. The Texans are playoff caliber team, this was a widely anticipated game across the NFL, a chance for the Dolphins to really make some hay and validate the huge contract for QB Tua Tagovailoa. Well, you know how this story ends. Tua completes 29 of 40 passes for 196 yards, typical 2024 dink and dunk affair, a game Tannehill fans are all too familiar with, 1 TD, 3 INT’s. To boot, Tua is injured and looks to miss 2 games, and potentially 3.

This is what you paid for with Tua Tagovailoa. He’ll beat the ham and eggers, and make you think he’s the real deal while doing it. Play a team that’s one of the better NFL teams, and the Houston Texans are a far cry from elite mind you, but they’re good enough to bring out the worst in the Miami Dolphins, both HC Mike McDaniel, and his QB Tua Tagovailoa. I can guarantee you when he (MM) saw Tua take off and saw 2 defenders in hot pursuit, he wished he had a joystick to control his QB and get him out of harms way, but the NFL is no video game, and as things go for this franchise, the it’s really only been a select few times when Tua his put his body in harms way, he’s only rushed 17 times, but perhaps two times too many. Now, the question as to whether Tua is physically able to play, but the team is being overcautious and holding him out so he doesn’t get hurt again, we’ll likely never know. I can add, it doesn’t matter either way. It’s a huge problem, regardless of whether Tua can’t physically play, or the team is being cautious and protecting him. They are putting one player above the success of team, you know, “All for one, one for all”, except here in Miami. Tua fans can argue with me until the cows come home, Josh Allen, Joe Burrow, Patrick Mahomes are going out there with Tua’s injury, and probably winning too. This is the perfect example of why they never should have given him that huge contract. They bid against themselves, there was no other team involved, and we had the rights to play him on his 5th year contract. What do you think his contract would be after this season, missing 6 games, getting injured twice, and once again losing and underperforming against better NFL teams? You can subtract a few zeros at the end, tell ya that much!

So here we are, Game 17, with a chance, albeit a slim chance to make the playoffs. The Denver Broncos host the Kansas City Chiefs practice squad, as the Chiefs have nothing at all to play for being the #1 seed with an incredible 15-1 record. I’m going to say something most of you here won’t like, this was a very difficult season for the Chiefs, they don’t have a juggernaut team, and their QB did not have a statistically great season. Now I know the first thing Tua defenders will say will be the Chiefs have a great defense. Just so you know, while that’s true, the Dolphins are the #3 defense in some metrics. Our defense is top 10 in most, with the exception of turnovers, a very poor year taking away the football. I know many Tua defenders point fingers at the defense, and in truth, they’re not completely wrong, but this offense was supposed to be a juggernaut, was a juggernaut last season. Apparently, the cheat motions we used last season quietly became illegal and then every team figured out how to stifle this high powered offense. So now, this high flying offense throws about 20 screen passes a game, and we use this short passing game as an extension of the running game with RB De’Von Achane catching 78 passes for 592 yards. WR Tyreek Hill has yet to crack 1000, an easy get in a 17 game season. WR Jaylen Waddle, formerly the other half of this explosive tandem will settle for 700 yards as he’s OUT with an injury. Some say Chris Grier is SAFE, well look at what he did with Tua, Tyreek and Waddle, and he could and should be fired for ALL of those contracts!

QB Tyler Huntley played well last week against the Cleveland Browns. I could make the argument that he did his best Tua Tagovailoa imitation, finishing the game completing 22 of 26 passes for a very Tua-like (84% completion percentage), and 1 TD, 0 INT’s. He might have done Tua better than Tua. So now we visit the cold confines of New Jersey to play in MetLife Stadium against the NY Jets, who are completely disinterested in winning. I’m sure the Jets have seen the vitriol across town when the NY Giants last week upset the Indianapolis Colts ending the Colts chances for a playoff berth, but also ruining the NY Giants draft position to 4 now, from #1. Giants fans are livid! The NY Jets have the #7 spot as of now, and I doubt they want to finish any further back in a critical rebuild. I ave to ask, what does Stephen Ross or the Dolphins organization have on the NYG? I bet it’s almost as good as what Grier has on Ross! SO, Huntley will get his chance to play this game and further solidify his chances of being the backup QB for next season. Ohhhh, we’ve seen this before, he’ll play great Sunday, and the Dolphins won’t entertain any other QB’s feeling confident that Huntley is the guy, much like Skylar Thompson was the guy this season. Tua will get injured next season, and Huntley will step in as the starter and look a whole lot more like he looked against the Tennessee Titans in Game 4, as we got trounced 31-12. Tell me I’m wrong, this is what happens here, I can see it all the way from New Jersey.

Root hard, but be prepared to be disappointed. I think we’ll beat the Jets, they don’t care. I do think however Bo Nix and the Broncos will do enough to take down Carson Wentz and the Chiefs backups and the Broncos will get the final playoff berth in the AFC. I think QB Bo Nix and the Broncos are a more compelling story anyway, certainly more so than our team of ill prepared chokers. I’m sure Mike McDaniel will be back, and I do think there’s a slim chance that Grier gets the axe, but it won’t be on merit, that much is clear. He totally destroyed this roster, allocating far too much cap money to 3 players who have turned out to have little positive impact on our team. Tua, 6-5, Huntley will be 3-2 after Sunday’s game. Huntley showed he could beat a bad team just as well as Tua, and he’ll get another crack this Sunday. The numbers are staggering, we’re going to need to replace more than half the roster next season, with not a lot of cap space, unless they mortgage the future even further, by restructuring the mistakes they made this season. My feelings are dead, I’m just waiting to see how it all turns out, without a care of whether we win or lose. I won’t be upset either way. If they leave both GM Chris Grier and HC Mike McDaniel in charge of this team again next year, I can’t really foresee any success next season, and who really knows if either will ever be held accountable if they’re not successful. Sad situation!

WR Cortland Sutton will be extra motivated for the Broncos. He gets a 2 million incentive bonus if he has over 82 yards receiving in week 18.

    Other big ones:

WR Mike Evans gets a 3 million incentive bonus if he has over 5 receptions and over 85 yards receiving in week 18. Then, he gets a 500k bonus for every playoff game they make.

Geno Smith gets 2 million if he has over 185 yards passing in week 18.

some people remember 1-15 and all those bad years around that season and don’t want to go back

to each his own, one way isn’t necessarily better than the other

some days I want them to clean house, others I remember the tough seasons

a championship will come or it won’t, I’m not losing any sleep over their incompetence, just trying to enjoy some games, when I can

none of the other rebuilds seemed to amount to anything, why should I think one now will?

because you might have someone competent doing it next time. Grier has been a GLARING part of the problem here for 25 years!!

  12. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Steve – On that same token, Tua, and MM to a degree haven’t gotten us any closer that any other team we’ve had here, so you keep trying until you get it right. Grier is more the common denominator though, so getting rid of him is at least a step in the right direction

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Also, this is not change for sake of change, it’s change to get better. He tried his best to build a team to be competitive in a small window, and he failed. We need to fix his mistakes before he mortgages more of the team’s future

Grier is liked by most as much as our STs coach, kick both off them to the curb

  20. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Bills have signed QB Mike White to be QB3 behind Trubisky. I would think this is due Allen only playing limited snaps, if any, this weekend. I don’t think it was because they have an outside chance they would play the Dolphins in the first round. They don’t need any insider info on how to beat the Dolphins. They got that down.

“Imma be available next week if we make the playoffs “. You know what bud, stay in bed! Tyler wins 3 in a row he’s earned the job and he brings another dimension. You can stay home and retire next season and never put your head or hip in danger ever again. Think about it, will ya!

  26. stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

I completely get the team is not perfect, but we are going into the last game and are still in the playoff hunt. Tua will be missing his 6th game and at worst we are going to end up average. Been a lot of great games to watch.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I think if Tyler Huntley plays well and we get in, he should start. Why put limpy gimpy in after missing 3 straight wins without him to clinch a playoff berth?

      • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

That would be an idea. Seems all depends on Tua’s health though. Bills in Buffalo would be a tough task. Seems you go with your star QB if he is ready.

      • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Star? Is that what you think he is? He will be rusty missing 3 games and probably compromised with his injury. How he can promise that he will play if we get in is very disturbing because that likely means he can play Sunday, but won’t. He’s only a star in MM’s eyes, not mine

      • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Yeah I think he is our star QB, but get “star” a subjective adjective. He’s at least our starter when healthy. We can agree on that right?

      • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

which 3 games did Tua miss Mike?

  27. ElephantRider's avatar ElephantRider says:

Where is Bat when you need him?

  28. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Stanger – no doubt he’s the starter, but I think a very strong case could be made to play Huntley if he plays well Sunday and we get in

    • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

We don’t know how Huntley will do on Sunday. At this point he’s only shown one good game against one of the worst teams in the league. But yeah if he crushes the Jets bad this weekend, roll with him. I assume even if playable Tua will be less than 100%.

  29. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Like several others have mentioned, I, too, don’t put much stock into earning a Pro-Bowl nod… at least not as much as I used to. For instance, our own Tyler Huntley made the Pro-Bowl in 2022 after like a dozen AFC QBs backed out of it.

The whole Pro-Bowl process has become a watered-down, generic version of what it once had been. And remember, fans can vote an unlimited amount of times for their favorite players… talk about rigged elections, LOL.

All-Pro 1st team and 2nd team is where it’s at if ya ask me. Hopefully, a couple of our guys (Sieler and Sanders) get those nods.

  30. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

I hope they’re being cautious with Tua, because they don’t want to fuck up 2025, like they did 2024

we’re going to need both QBs next year, whomever they are, Hopefully continues what he started last week

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

IMO, we all but must draft a QB in the ’25 Draft. Tua’s going to have his outlet year after the ’25 season, Huntley may not be ‘it’, and we need to groom a QB of the future.

  31. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

I’ve never understood the hatred for Tua from the MSM since day 1, and I cannot understand the hatred for Tua from our own fanbase. The correlation? Too many people are being brainwashed by the MSM: turn it the fuck off!

Tua didn’t draft himself to the Dolphins: that was Chris Grier, rightfully or woefully. Tua doesn’t quit: the fans quit on him. Tua plays through injury: that’s on Tua. Tua has 2.25 seconds to get rid of the football: that’s on Chris Grier (from day 1) due to his lack of a pass-protecting O-Line.

Tua didn’t give himself the extension he got prior to the season: that was on Chris Grier and the football player’s agent. Tua didn’t tell every opponent to play 2-high Safeties all day against ‘Reek and ‘Da Penguin in ’24: that’s something a good HC or OC can mitigate and turn into an advantage.

There is a LOT of misplaced blame going on here in Dolphins land, and MUCH of it is being unfairly saddled on Tua. Yet… Tua has put up admirable numbers… even if one disqualifies his completion % due to the high frequency of screen-passes (I’m raising my hand on his completion %, and I’ve said as much over a week ago).

The most EYE-POPPING stat that everybody who wants to blame Tua conveniently won’t acknowledge? Our YPC on the ground, to keep the passing game honest. And Coach McD is supposedly a running-game guru… WOW.

Blame Tua all one would like, but that’s really just a cop out and defense of how poorly Chris Grier and Coach McD have run this team. Ya might be able to get rid of Tua, but Grier and McD are going to be here another year or more.

    • ElephantRider's avatar ElephantRider says:

Don’t worry M. I fully blame Grier. This perenniall average season was forseen by many with the moves that were made coming into it.

Tua can’t help being made of glass. Some people just are and there is no offseason conditioning, magic trick to rectify it. Grier put nothing in place to protect his prized QB knowing this…..well he should have known this. Maybe he doesn’t watch the games.

McDaniel is in LaLa land too. Seriously Skylar Thompson was the #2? He was fine with shit at OL as a supposed run oriented coach?

      They all failed.

  32. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Happy B-Day to the late, great Don Shula!

Don’t know why, but January 4th has ALWAYS been ingrained on my brain.

  33. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

M – Maybe I need to show you the “Show me the money” clip again, with Tua in OTA’s with him shouting “Show me the money!” and making a very similar hand gesture to Johnny Manziel. He wasn’t going to take just any contract, he wanted to be paid like a top QB. He also probably wouldn’t have played on the 5th YR, we’ll never know because they didn’t try. He can’t make a simple football play outside the pocket without getting injured. We have to have to have the best O-line, best receivers, and make it so he never has to leave the pocket. No thanks! I’m reading in between your lines and basically everything has to be perfect for Tua to lead this team to a playoff victory and beyond. You know where we’re at with the cap, and the most likely way to make the cap workable is to further mortgage the future. I don’t think he should be part of the future of this team, he’s a QB who can beat up the crap teams and look like the old Sam Darnold with the Jets against the good ones.

It still amazes me how tolerant some of you are that he’s not available this weekend, but says “Imma be available next week if we make the playoffs”. Why do we tolerate this? Can we just get a guy here who wants to win and play through anything, and not have to be protected? Holy hell!

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I can blame Tua AND Chris Grier, and MM. I don’t hold Tua solely responsible, it’s ALL of them, it doesn’t have to be one or the other.

      • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

        correct, it’s all 3

I keep hearing Tua doesn’t make plays outside the pocket, he’s not Josh Allen (who is), but he made several big plays outside the pocket this year, he just doesn’t extend plays long enough sometimes and our D never seems to play complimentary ball against good teams

I don’t think we can win in the playoffs with just Tua, think Snoop is needed some games, assuming he is who we saw last week

I think it’s a bit unfair to say Tua needs great players around him to succeed, he does need some help especially at OL

last year to start the season we had great play from the skill positions, sans TE, the OL was firing on all cylinders, but we didn’t play any good teams, once the Bills game came we had OL issues

would be nice to see a healthy team for once, I blame Grier for signing soft players

Another nice one! I like the Theo Wease pick. Good size with 4.42 speed and a savvy route runner. Will be good starting off in the slot but can play boundary WR also. Added some beef to the DL with Walker and Collins. Barton is a solid ILB with good speed and frame to add a couple pounds. There are about 8 sites that have him in the top 100.

Need a safety though as Bassa put on some beef and now plays ILB.

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Banks is a stud and hard to pass on if he lasts to #15. I think he could be moved into LG starting day 1 and keep PP at LT. That would be a very solid left side of the OL. Also give us Jaeden Roberts at RG.

        My thoughts too

        Kelvin Banks Jr.OTTexas

        Height: 6 – 4 |Weight: 324 lbs |RAS: N/A

Banks will have debate surrounding his ideal NFL position from the predraft process to Day 1 of training camp. While his polished technique and strong anchor suggest he could stay at left tackle, some teams might see him better suited at guard due to concerns about his footwork and lack of explosive movement, which could pose challenges against stronger opponents.

Why saying that is somehow equated with hate is beyond me. Well, no, it’s not because that’s how our World works now. Everything is couched in the extremes. Hyperbole is now the norm and put forth as the truth and rational dissent is crushed or cancelled.

I don’t think anyone hates Tua. I think his defenders are calling honest complaints hatred when it’s just his personal failures. Much like Randy, I think Tua is a mid-tier QB at around the 15-18 area of QBs. He loses a bit of value though due to always being injured. Dude has played one full season in 5 years. That’s terrible when the QB is the most protected player in football. That’s just honest fact, no hatred. I also blame McDaniel and Grier for the inability to coach up the team and find players that can lead us to a playoff win. No hatred, just objective statements that the product isn’t good enough. Not at all.

While I don’t hate Tua, i am severely disappointed in him. He’s not a top QB. The pick was a bad one. I watched him all through college and I thought a lot of what I saw was him. It wasn’t. He had Jerry Jeudy, Waddle, Devonta Smith and Henry Ruggs as WRs. Najee Harris, top OL, and a great defense. Tua had a loaded team to help him look really good. And he did look really good, but he needs all that to look really good. He isn’t a difference maker. That’s not hatred. It’s just observations that have been justified after 5 years of watching him play. Throw in his constant injuries and he just won’t get us to where I want us to go…a single playoff win. That’s all I want at this point, and I don’t; see Grier, McDaniel, or Tua being good enough to get us that. No hatred, just my opinion based off the past 3-5 years.

  40. ElephantRider's avatar ElephantRider says:

It’s not Tua”s fault this organization is ran so poorly. Can’t blame the dude for cashing in.

Flores knew and got ran out of town. Lots of non professionals knew and dumb fans came around over the years just by watching. What Grier was so afraid of by having to hurry up and sign him? No idea.

The only argument was, “Who else would be QB?” Seems other teams around the league figure it out.

  41. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I don’t hate Tua, I hate that fans think he’s the guy to bring us to the promised land a d think he’s light-years better than Tannehill. I’d say he’s a little better. He’s a better thrower, but Tannehill was a much better athlete. Overall, they’re both limited enough to make it very difficult to get where I want to be, a team that can beat any team anytime. To me it’s very similar to “Stockholm Syndrome”. Because we haven’t had a great QB since Marino some of you are willing to fall in love with every QB we draft so that maybe if we love and coddle him he’ll end up being great. I see great twice a year when we play Buffalo. Tua can’t hold his jockstrap. IDGAF about completion percentage or how well he plays in small games if he can’t be a winner in a big game. Josh Allen makes that team a winner because of his indomitable spirit and will to win.

  42. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Good peeps, when I use the word “hate” in reference to some feelings about Tua, it’s obviously in the context of football and its fandom (aka: fanaticism). No, I don’t believe anybody literally *hates* Tua, of course… though I question the media at times (see Mike Florio and Chris Simms, for example).

Can’t believe I actually had to type that out, LOL! 😆

  43. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

I don’t want to be labeled as a Tua “defender”, either. Look, he’s a severe injury risk at this point in time and nobody knows when it just may be his last game.

THIS is why I wish to draft a QB relatively early in the ’25 NFL Draft! This is also why I was wishing we’d fail down the stretch, in order to have the proper resources available to us to draft the best QB possible.

Does that sound like a Tua “defender” to ya? It shouldn’t… rather, Tua has an expiration date that’s coming far sooner than later.

But for the love of Pete (whoever ‘Pete’ is? LOL), I don’t believe it’s a healthy excercise to throw Tua under the bus or to target Tua for the failures of this FO.

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Look at it like this… Tua is a SYMPTOM of a dysfunctional FO, not the causation of as much.

And even so, Tua has set records.

      • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

He’s a symptom no doubt, but I hold him accountable for wanting the highest contract. I wish he was like Tom Brady and realized getting the highest contract severely curtails the ability to build a better team, and if one thing Tua has proven to us is that he needs a better team. I’ll save you the frustration, he won’t get one and we won’t win a playoff game with him at QB

    ————–

But Tua DOES play through anything and everything… and that’s exactly why his body is going through a grinder. Now, couple that with the media telling the masses that Coach McD and the entire Miami Dolphins team as a whole (all the way up to Steve Ross) don’t protect their players, in the aftermath of the Tua concussions of ’22.

DAMN RIGHT you will hold your QB out — even against his will — if there’s an issue. Steve Ross is obviously TIRED of the negative press regarding his team and I don’t blame him. Don’t blame Tua, blame the media.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

So if ether way is true, don’t you have to get rid of Tua? Either he’s selfish and holding out due to injury or the team is protecting him due to PR pressure. Either option is disaster and not going to change, right?

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Should have played Tua on the 5th-year option, if that’s what you want to hear.

Can’t get rid of him now until there’s a good OUT for him, looks like ’26.

Gotta draft a QB this year in the ’25 Draft, Brother!

  45. New Age's avatar New Age says:

    Mike E,

I was making a list of QBs who I think are better than Tua and it kinda opened my eyes. I think there are 11 QBs who are better than Tua today. He’s in the 2nd tier. In that Tier, I found about 3-4 that had better results. His injury history also knocked him some. Honestly, from a standard of ‘this is our franchise guy!’ he’s about 17-20? When you draft a guy 5th, is that really the standard you should have? After watching the year Sam Darnold has had?

It really looks like there are two successful models and have always been two. Get a top tier QB and build around him. This works for about 6 dudes. For the rest, it’s build the best team possible and have your second tier QB manage you to victory. That’s the better and easier option. We should be doing #2. Instead, we built around a 2nd tier QB and this is what happens.

Seriously, who DOESN’T want to be paid as much as they possibly can, especially in the world of sports, where one’s health could turn south on one bad play? Look at Andrew Luck. Look at Luke Kuechly. Look at Patrick Willis. They were all smart enough to get a 2nd contract and then hang it up.

Then look at Junior Seau, Lyle Alzado, and countless others.

I’ve got no problem with anybody trying to make their $$$ before shit happens. Just sayin’.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

OK, but then he wanted the money, not to have a great team and win. He knows he can’t lift the team and make them a juggernaut, he needs a great supporting cast. Mahomes and Allen don’t need the best receiver in the NFL, they work with what they got and either will win for you no matter what

      • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Kinda like Latrell Sprewell who “couldn’t feed his family” if he didn’t get a higher contract. I suppose I shouldn’t blame him, just the idiot who gave it to him

  47. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    M13,

When your QB demands a $55M/year contract it’s hard to build a team around him….especially when that same QB seems to need a perfect situation to be successful. His contract is partly to blame for this team going cheap in other areas. There’s no law that says these guys have to be greedy and try to get every single cent they can in a contract. Brady didn’t. Mahomes didn’t. Tua is hardly just blameless in this. You make it sound like Tua was asking for $30M and Grier just said no I wanna pay you $55M. He made his choice and got his money, now he needs to perform with the team being hamstrung financially because they grossly overpaid an average QB. Greed is a bitch.

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Greed IS a bitch, my friend! There’s absolutely no doubt about it.

Ultimately, the team (Chris Grier as GM) decided to offer Tua the roughly $55M/year contract. I’m signing that if I’m Tua.

    • New Age's avatar New Age says:

They don’t even know what to do with all that money. None of these players need that. It would be just as hard to waste 40 million a year. His kids will never want no matter if it’s 45 or 55. Like you said, it’s all greed and so why not call them out for that? When did it become a virtue to be greedy lol? Tua picked himself over his team and that’s his choice…just like it’s mine to call him out for being exposed as a very average QB.

  48. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

    Y’all, this team IS cursed.

  49. Randy's avatar Randy says:

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

It really doesn’t matter where ya rank Tua in terms of a top-10 QB, a mid-tier QB, or a shitty QB. NONE OF IT MATTERS is the point.

      • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

i agree Mike, but he needs to play well and beat the jets first, if he does he should be a lock to be at least 2025 backup

  53. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    M13,

how high of a draft pick do you think they should spend on a quarterback this year?

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Well… it’s absolutely contingent upon the Offensive system said QB would be drafted into.

Let us say that Coach McD is still our HC for ’25 (and I believe he will be), then we don’t necessarily need to get the highest pick for a QB. However, if there IS a coaching change from our WCO (say, Mike Vrabel), we may want to get more of a pro-style QB.

Assuming Coach McD returns, my QB target would be Dillon Gabriel out of Oregon.

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

I’ve seen Gabriel go as early as the 2nd round in some current mocks, and go as late as the 6th round in some current mocks.

To play it safe, I’d definitely take him on day 2 of the NFL Draft.

that only makes sense, if Tua counted 55m against the 2024 cap, his actual number is 9.525m and in 2025 it’s still only 39.446m

  57. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    steve,

The point was his contract will hamper this team’s ability to build a better team. Is it your contention that it won’t?

  58. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Of course they did. If not, they suck even worse

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

no, they spent right up to the cap, plus future years, they went cheap in other areas, because they paid Hill, Chubb, Armstead, X, Ramsey, threw away lots of money on DTs that aren’t on the team, and 50 other things Grier fucked up
