Dolphins finish ’24 season 8-9, look to retool

Well folks, this is the aftermath of a losing season in what was supposed to be the roster that both GM Chris Grier and Head Coach Mike McDaniel built to not only win the division title in the AFC East but get into the Superbowl. Surprise, this team fell short, waaaaay short of those lofty expectations. I’ll be honest, I expected a 10-7 season and a WC Playoff berth for this team, but they couldn’t even manage that. GM Chris Grier points fingers at QB Tua Tagovailoa implying if he stayed healthy this team could have gone much further. I sit at my computer and point a finger at Chris Grier (Guess which finger) because he offered Tua a contract, namely a $212.4M contract offer that he couldn’t refuse. I can tell you that there was no other NFL team who would go anywhere near that figure, and as I made clear here I would have played Tua on his 5th year contract. If he refused, well, that’s on him, the NFL is a business, and that’s just smart business. His choices would have been to play, or sit out. Either way, this team win. Especially if you go into the offseason with that plan, because then you can keep either or both of Christian Wilkins and/or Robert Hunt and you definitely make an offer to keep OLB Andrew Van Ginkel. Alas, Grier, and Mike McDaniel swung out of their shoes and missed.

We have a lot of very expensive veteran players on this team who have not played up to their contracts. Tyreek Hill, who will make $28M in ’25, and who BTW gave himself the hook in Game 17 sometime in the 4th QTR and said “Bye, I’m out!” is one of them. He wasn’t close to the impact player he was in 2023. Jalen Ramsey didn’t play poorly this season, and DC Anthony Weaver tried to employ him in as many spots as possible, but the end result was a “meh” season. 2 INT’s in 7 games, 60 tackles (39 solo), 11 passes defensed, 1 sack and 4 QB hits. OLB Bradley Chubb never quite made it back on the field. H was injured late in the season, game 16 (12/24/23) to be specific, so we knew he was going to miss a good amount of time, but that stretched to the entire season. LT Terron Armstead gave his all, and played admirably, but relying on oft injured veteran players always leaves you short, especially when it’s Chris Grier making those decisions. Then there’s the highest paid player, none other than QB Tua Tagovailoa. This one hurts. If I’m running this team, I’d drafting a QB this year that can not only be his legitimate backup, but a player than can compete for the job. Enough getting stung by hoping/expecting him to stay healthy. Yes, in 2023, QB Tua Tagovailoa played 17 games and a then a playoff game, but any of you here with eyes saw the caution he took, ending plays with throwaways, going down willingly before a collision for a sack, and simply not taking any chances running outside the pocket with the football. We all watch games, we see winning QB’s do this routinely, because it’s necessary to win games. If Tua gets back to that kind of caution, once again we’re going nowhere, because every game has a spot or two or three where this is necessary.

As our current DC Anthony Weaver makes the circuit of interviews, it’s possible we lose one of the bright spots. A lot of fans harped on the defense for much of the season, and they weren’t completely wrong, but with the lack of anyone capable at the helm of QB in Tua’s absence, the defense was just asked to do too much, and of course, we lost OLB Jaelan Phillips in the middle of Game 3, after working so damn hard to get back on the field after suffering a torn achilles in game 11 against the NYJ on their shitty field surface at MetLife Stadium. I love that kid, and I truly admire his resolve, but he is unfortunately another talented player that can’t be relied on due to his injury proclivity. Rookie OLB Chop Robinson showed some potential and should be a bigger part of the defense. Bradley Chubb may have played his last game as a Dolphins LB 12/24/23. He may be a post June cut, or more of a longshot, be part of this defense for ’25. I’d recommend the former. DE/OLB Emmanuel Ogbah is no longer on the roster, and props to him for always doing a solid job, never whining, just suits up and does his thing. Rookie OLB Mo Kamara didn’t really get an opportunity to do anything this season, and it’s possible his role is expanded and he’s given more of a chance to be a part of this defense. If Chubb is gone, you’d have to think that would be the case because at least as of now, the only OLB’s on the roster will be Chop Robinson, Jaelan Phillips, and Grayson Murphy. We may have to use another draft pick on a pass rusher, but there are so many holes and not enough fingers or cash to plug them.

Mike McDaniel. Hero in 2023, Stoner HC not respected by his players and looking more and more out of his league in the NFL. His explosive offense in 2023 has turned into a Ryan Tannehill, Joe Philbin offense. Oh, Tua was dinking and dunking like no one’s business, he completed 72.9% of his passes! Maybe we should start counting handoffs in his completion percentage, so we can say Tua completed 99.3% of his handoffs! This offense was a dud. We couldn’t run the ball, and to me at least, it was bizarre how much the offense ran through RB/WR De’Von Achane. 203 carries and 78 receptions totaling 1499 yards and 12 TD’s, 6 rushing, 6 receiving. Rookie RB Jaylen Wright was an absolute afterthought, this after trading into the 4th RD of the ’24 draft by trading away this upcoming draft’s 3rd RD pick. That’s fine if use the kid, but Wright was never given a real opportunity in a game, getting only 68 carries and 3 receptions. Yet another failed trade up for Chris Grier. Back to McDaniel, and all the promise with the “Head Coach That Cares”. He’s turned into a mumbling. bumbling HC who apparently is not respected by his players. You have to be successful to lead a bunch of guys as their friends. You’re not ruling by fear, or by respect, just like hanging out with your boys, and when you’re losing, they don’t really wanna hang out with you. It seems a surety that both HC Mike McDaniel and GM Chris Grier are on the hot seat in2025, but then again, Ross is asleep at the ownership wheel here, and doesn’t seem to care enough about holding anyone responsible for anything with this team, as long as he gets his hot cocoa and his blankie at night.

We enter 2025 at the moment with $9M in cap space. That can improve some with a post June 1st cut of Bradley Chubb, but keep in mind that’s a long time to wait to sign players. Restructures are always possible, but that mortgages the future again, and I’d prefer that once that the 2 knuckleheads are gone that they haven’t ruined the situation to make it more difficult to find a new GM/HC combination. The exact amount of draft picks is in, but where those picks fall have yet to be determined. We know we have RD1/#13, RD 2/#48, no natural 3rd RD pick (traded for RB Jaylen Wright). We should get a compensatory pick after RD 3 for Robert Hunt. The pick for DT Christian Wilkins is muddled right now, because despite the massive contract he signed, he missed the last 12 weeks of the season, so the playing time portion of the formula for compensatory picks put that pick more likely in RD 4 than 3. We have our regular 4th RD pick, RD 4/#112, then RD 5 #142, and then RD 5 #149 (Bradley Chubb trade), RD 7/#200 and RD 7/#207 (Chase Claypool trade). We might get a compensatory pick inn the 7th RD for losing Safety DeShon Elliott, who played in 15 games for the Steelers this season.

We have a decent amount of draft capital, but man do we have a lot of holes to fill. O-line will no doubt be a priority as we have 2 OG positions to fill. That also includes praying that #52 Patrick Paul can actually nail down the LT spot next season and that RT Austin Jackson can stay healthy and play well at RT. My favorite whipping boy in the offseason was OC Aaron Brewer, but as it turned out, i was wrong and Grier hit well on an offensive lineman. He’s not an all pro, but moves very well and blocks well on the move. OG’s Robert Jones and Liam Eichenberg have to be depth guys, and then you have to hope you don’t need your depth guys too often. Whether WR Tyreek Hill has played his last game here is unknown, I’m sure he will be given every opportunity to get back in the good graces of all parties involved, but WR could become a priority of that doesn’t happen. It seems we have one very good receiving TE in Jonnu Smith, but not much else in that room. TE Durham Smythe fell out of the picture this season, and TE Julian Hill seemed to only make mistakes, penalties, missed blocks, dropped passes, you name it, he did them all, a lot. TE has to be somewhat of a priority, not necessarily in the draft, but there some TE’s some of us here love for sure in this ’25 draft.

On defense, the cupboard is really bare. We need defensive linemen, DE, NT, and then we need depth. Zach Sieler is great, but he can’t really do it all alone, he’s the only rostered DL right now. OLB has some priority, because while Chop Robinson showed promise, it’s basically Mo Kamara and Jaelan Phillips, and then possibly Bradley Chubb, if he doesn’t get cut. At inside LB, Jordyn Brooks was a very nice pickup. ILB Tyrell Dodson will be a FA, so the only other inside backer on the roster is mostly ST’s player Channing Tindall, yes, 3rd RD/#102, our very first pick in the 2022 draft. It’s possible we re-sign Dodson and bring in a few UDFA’s, but don’t expect a lot of money or draft capital at this spot. Cornerback is another high priority. Jalen Ramsey who play everywhere will be 31 mid season, so we need to find legit corners. CB Kendall Fuller who came over from the Commanders in FA had an uneven season and made little impact. That leaves unproven UDFA CB Storm Duck, Ethan Bonner, Isaiah Johnson and Jason Maitre. That’s going to ned some attention. We’re hurting at Safety as well, Jevon Holland is a FA and didn’t impress anyone this past season anyway. All we have is 2024 6th RD pick Patrick McMorris right now, and he hasn’t shown he can be a starter in the NFL. There’s lots of work to do as I mentioned, plenty of roster spots up for grabs. With the amount of cap space we have and roster positions that need to be filled, we’re going to have to do a great job hitting UDFA’s this year. Our roster is old now, although that will undoubtedly change after this offseason.

Looking at our division, the Bills are the front runners and it’s not even close. Yes, things change, but I think that’s a surety. Who’s next depends on this offseason, and right now the New England Patriots have a QB, are yet to hire a HC, but they have draft picks and cap space to play with, $133M which is the most in the NFL. The NY Jets have yet to hire a GM or HC, so we’ll see what happens there. The Jets have interviewed so many people for both jobs, but nothing has been done as of this writing. Even “Sexy Rexy” Ryan nailed down an interview. So who is 2nd in this division is unknown, but anyone that foolishly thinks it’s us, is well, foolish. The Patriots fired HC Jerod Mayo after one season and it seemed like all the world that was done to accommodate bringing in former Patriots LB Mike Vrabel, but he’s yet to be hired. Will we actually make the QB position a priority and find someone other than Tua who can run this offense? I thank the Football Gods that QB Tyler Huntley shat the bed against the Jets, because if he played well, surely he would be the backup QB for Tua. We have to identify a veteran who can play, and draft a young QB as well. Not necessarily day 1, but maybe day 2. I don’t care what round, as long as he’s given reps and a chance to play here. I’ve heard Tua wants all the reps, that ends in ’24, because Tua can’t finish a season so he doesn’t get that opportunity any longer. We need every QB on the roster capable of stepping in to a game and competing for a win. If that means less reps for Tua, so be it.

I’m not optimistic about Chris Grier and Mike McDaniel running the show this offseason, draft and beyond. In MLB, I’m a Mets fan, and have seen how wonderful change can be. Mets owner Steve Cohen has deep pockets, but in a short time, his team is already competitive and went deep into the playoffs to the NCLS, losing to the Los Angeles Dodgers, WS winners in’25. The NY Knicks majority owner James Dolan is not my fave, but he finally handed the reins of President to Leon Rose, who has done a masterful job of bringing back winning to MSG, the Greatest Arena in the World. The Knicks are now a top 5 NBA team after 4 years of Leon Rose being named President. Both the NY Mets and NY Knicks were stuck in mediocrity, but one change of ownership (NY Mets and Steve Cohen), and one change of authority (NY Knicks and President Leon Rose) have paid huge dividends. So someday, Ross gives up the ownership or he finally tires of mediocrity and let’s his good friend Chris Grier go and this franchise can start building the right way. Can Grier finally get it right, and can Mike McDaniel get the respect from his team? Don’t bet on it! Sorry guys, that’s just how I feel, but of course, I hope to be proven wrong.

Call me a traitor but I almost find myself rooting for Josh Allen at this point. All dude wants is to win at any cost to his body. I certainly want him/them to win next week. Maybe, in the back of my mind, there is some hope that if they win it all, they won’t come into next season as hungry.

    I don’t know.

I 100% want the Bills to go to the SB. After that, it really doesn’t matter what happens.

I really liked QB Haynes King out of Georgia Tech as a 5th round pick. He has yet to declare for the draft but did say he is only going to return to college if he gets a NIL gig through a bigger power 5 school, Big Ten or SEC. He has had talks with both Michigan and Alabama.

The kid has a good arm and can RUN. His best game was an 8 OT loss to #7 Georgia 44-42. He was 26 of 36 for 303 yards with 2 TD’s and 0 INt’s. Rushing that game he had 24 carries for 110 yards and 3 TD’s. On the season, he accounted for 25 TD’s both passing (14) and rushing (11) with only 2 INT’s.

Will have to see if he enters the draft or not.

  7. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

The best throwing and running QB’s outside of Cam Ward and Jalen Milroe are Jaxson Dart and Riley Leonard. I’m not sold on Riley Leonard’s arm though. I think Jaxson Dart would be a great target at pick #98 or #114. I am taking him at #98 or trade up for him in the 3rd even. I think his skills are that good, quick release and not just accuracy but ball placement is excellent. He has great touch AND he is tough.

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Draftwire ranks him the highest at a mid 2nd rounder. Six other draft sites have him ranked as an early to late 3rd. Draftbuzz ranks him a 4th. ESPN and PFF rank him as a 6th, that’s ridiculous.

  8. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

I truly think we should trade down for more picks. If we can get 2 really good OG’s through FA and draft, 2 stud DL through FA and draft and 2 good safeties through FA and draft, we can fill in some really nice players with the rest of our picks.

  9. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

aaaand, you know where this was leading. lol

With the idea in FA, we signed OG Will Hernendez, Aaron Banks, or Will Fries. Then DT Tedarrell Slaton, Javon Kinlaw or Osa Odighizuwa. Then safety Talanoa Hufanga, Richie Grant or Andre Cisco. (Keeping cap in mind). Resign ILB Walker, CB Kohou, OG Wynn, S Campbell, OLB Quintin Bell, T Kion Smith and DT Hand.

    48. Jaxson Dart QB Ole Miss

    98. Carson Schwesinger LB UCLA

    114. Malachi Moore S Alabama

There’ve been some good games this year in the playoffs. The sad part for me is we look to be a long ways away from these teams. I can’t believe we’re still a fringe playoff team, but it sure looks that way.

There have been a couple years now where big plays by IDL have had a big impact on playoff games. There are a couple guys in this draft who might end up being close to as good as Carter and Jones.

  11. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

I really like free agent RG Will Fries. He went down with a season ending leg injury in week 5 but will be ready for TC. Says he is ahead of schedule in rehab. Fries was the #2 ranked guard and #9 ranked OL in the NFL when he went down with the injury. Also, don’t forget we snatched OL Breadin Daniels off another teams PS and he is under contract through 2025.

Our starting OL could be: LT Paul, LG Milum, OC Brewer, RG Fries, RT Jackson with backups in OT Kion Smith, OT Ryan Hayes, OT/OG Wynn, OG Breaden Daniels, OG Chasen Hines and OC Andrew Meyer.

That would be a nice starting OL.

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

A solid OL like that with some added juice in 6’5 225 WR Williams to Hill, Waddle and Washington and angry running RB Skattebo with Achane and Wright, not forgetting TE Jannu Smith, that will bring scary back to the offense.

Also, will have a very capable rookie backup QB.

  12. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Same with DL. Add massive NT/DT Tedarrell Slaton in FA. A starting DL of Seiler, Slaton and Kenneth Grant would be very hard to run against, a nasty physical DL. Backups would be Ty Hamilton and Neil Farrell Jr, so yeah, bring back DeShawn Hand or someone.

OLB/Edge would be Phillips, Chop with backups in Bell, Mo Kamara, Grayson Murphy and Mikail Kamara (no relation). I don’t think McLendon or Bradley-King would make this roster.

ILB would be Brooks, Walker, Schwesinger, Stutsman, Tindall. Dequan Jackson is on the 2025 roster but they just kicking a tire with no tread there.

Safety would be Cisco, Moore, Campbell, McMorris and Colbert.

CB still solid with Ramsey, Fuller, Kohou, Duck, Cam Smith, Bonner, Isaiah Johnson, Jason Maitre, Jordan Clark. Can’t keep them all and may not have to resign Kohou, just move Duck to slot where he may better fit. Johnson and Maitre showed good promise last TC.

    Seiler, Slaton, Grant

    Phillips, Brooks, Walker, Chop

    Ramsey, Cisco, Moore, Fuller

  13. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

I think Mikail Kamara is an underrated Edge/DE. He’s only 6’1 but 265 pounds and powerful. I don’t know why PFN has him ranked so low but he would be a 7th round steal. He had 10 sacks in the Big Ten last year.

  14. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Piggy, you were asking the other day about DT Ty Robinson. I think he is a real sleeper. I think he is a solid DT pick and a possible steal if there in the top of the 5th.

The final day of declaration for the Draft was this past Wednesday, man. There is an extension for the Championship teams (Notre Dame and Ohio State). That date is January 24th.

    ———-

Sorry if I misled ya. Trey Smith is going to get PAID! But so will Will Fries, but not nearly as much as Trey, having come off injury.

So if we don’t back the Brinks truck up for Trey Smith, Will Fries would be the second FA option for us, and much less expensive, comparitively speaking.

I’m just sayin’… Fries isn’t going to cost us a cheap hamburger, with a side of himself. That would be in-salting to him, and he’s no longer just a tater-tot. He’s a meat & potatoes guy, to be sure. I’d butter him up in the FA process and promise that he’ll bring home the bacon, if he signs with us. Perhaps his relationship with the Colts has become so sour-creamed and they won’t re-sign him.

    YES… Will Fries is legit.

    ———-

Where the F do you get Puny? Sometimes you snap off and don’t know WTF you are talking about. Luv ya man, but it’s true.

It’s not all about straight line speed like Lamar Jackson or Justin Fields. It’s about being able to escape and have running skills, balance and the mentality to do it.

Some of the top 10 QB’s in rushing yards:

    Josh Allen 4.75 forty

    Bo Nix – 4.75

    Baker Mayfield – 4.84

    Brock Purdy 4.84

Patrick Mahomes – 4.84 and 4.80 at the combine

“Puny”? WTF! He’s as tall or taller than, at least, 50% of the starters in the NFL and weighs as much or more than 70% of starters in the NFL.

    Jaxson Dart, 6’2 225

    Patrick Mahomes, 6’2 225

    Dak Precott, 6’2 226

    Jalen Hurts, 6’1 223

Baker Mayfield, not quite 6’1 215

    Bo Nix, 6’2 214

    Aaron Rodgers, 6’2 223

    Geno Smith 6’3 221

    Russell Wilson 5’11 205

    Brock Purdy 6’1 212

    Caleb Williams 6’1 215

    Kurt Cousins 6’3 205

    Matthew Stafford 6’3 214

I could go on and on but you get the picture. Who’s your favorite QB in the draft? Cam Ward? Oh, he’s puny, only 6’2, 223 and projected to run in the 4.8’s. We better skip on him also.

So, I just finished a novel by R.J. Barker, “The Bone Ships” and it was pretty good. I had some issues with it, but it was interesting enough that when I finished it I went to the store to pick up book 2 in the series, which WAS there when I bought book 1. Well, wouldn’t you know it, book 2 was gone when I went back. Barnes & Noble did have books 1 & 2 of a later series by Barker “Gods of the Wyrdwood” & “Warlords of the Wyrdwood” so I grabbed them, as I am ALWAYS looking for the next series to read.

What a disappointment! I am like 3 chapters in and I almost threw the book in the trash at Starbucks last night. (I found the receipt and will be returning the two books tonight, good thing too, because paperbacks are not cheap any more ($50 for two!!!)

The writing is incoherent and hard to follow and Barker decided to throw in a “third sex” into this world. A “non-binary” sex between male and female, but decided to make them a huge part of society. (every family unit wants one, between mom & dad) He doesn’t even try to explain why a society would want a third, non-breading entity to be part of a family unit, worse, NEED them as part of the family, because they “facilitate understanding between the sexes” They, them, they, them, they them. You cannot follow the F’n story because you never know who is speaking or who is being discussed. It sucks. Don’t waste your time or money buying it or trying to read it.

Like I said, “The Bone Ships” is ok. I ordered book 2 on line and am waiting for it to arrive, but The wyrdwood novels are hot garbage / drivel of overwhelming wokeness.

what i was referring to with Jaxson Dart’s size was a QB with somewhat avg to small size needs to have some measurable or intangible, that allows them to be great, because of it

You can be a 6’2″ QB and be great, but it’s not what makes you great, you’d be great inspite of your size

at 6’5″ and 235 and muscular you can get away with less other skills

I don’t see Jaxson as having great enough other skills

maybe I’m wrong, it’s just my impression when watching him live, he didn’t show me th IT factor, I don’t see it with Cam Ward either he processes too slowly, in the NFL they’ll eat him alive

And by July, we’ll break 100 degrees as usual. Not too many places in the US where the temperature swings 100 degrees from winter to summer on a regular basis.

Stay warm through this cold spell, y’all.

BTW… I’m remembering that a little over a year ago, our Phins went to KC to play in -30 degree windchills for the Wildcard game. That game should have been CANCELLED.

That’s stupid. Pats won’t trade/give up draft picks for Tyreek. Yeah, WR draft class is poor but still some very good WR’s in there.

They will most likely go after FA WR Tee Higgins and draft a guy like WR Tre Harris from Ole Miss.

WR Brian Thomas Jr., OG Jackson Powers-Johnson, TE Brock Bowers, Center Zach Frazier, DT Braden Fiske, DL Laiatu Latu, DT T’Vondre Sweat, LB Chop Robinson, LB Jared Verse, CB Cooper DeJean, Safety Calen Bullock.

I think in some mocks we were taking OT Roger Rosengarten who made the list as the RT (Joe Alt was the LT).

Graham Barton was moved to Center by the Bucs and was beat out by Zach Frazier. If he was put in at OG, I think he would have won that other OG spot on the list. Instead, that other OG spot went to Dominick Puni (49er’s).

    Edge Jonah Elliss – #76

Safety Calen Bullock – #78 (BBM’s Safety pick last draft)

    OT/OG Dominick Puni – #86

Not counting ST’s players on the All Rookie list, 9 were drafted in the 1st round, 7 drafted in the 2nd round, 3 in the 3rd round, 2 in the 4th and 1 in the 5th (RB).

We only get one pick in the 1st round anyway, why not trade down for an extra 2nd round pick. Obviously the talent is there.

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

There were 10 OL drafted in the 3rd round, 5 started as rookies and 1 made the All-Rookie team.

It’s OK to trade down for more picks.

  50. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

I’ve got absolutely no problem trading down, unless there is a STUD player with a round 1 grade — in a position of need — still on the board for us @ R1P13.

Those fringe players may include Will Campbell, Kelvin Banks, and Malaki Starks. If Grier doesn’t have a round 1 grade on any of the above, then by all means, trade down.

It KILLS me to say this(!), being he’s a ‘man-crush’ of mine… but we have no business drafting a TE — Tyler Warren — in the 1st round this year. Now if it happens(?), I’ll be ecstatic!!! But logically speaking, I cannot see it happening… unless Coach McD dramatically changes his Offense into a predominently 2-TE system (NOT going to happen) starring Jonnu Smith and Tyler Warren.

HOWEVER… and stranger things have happened… if we were to trade Jonnu before the Draft while his stock is RED HOT (best season for a TE in Miami Dolphins history), that would be indicative that we’re targeting Warren. JMO

  51. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

We’ll see what happens in FA before the Draft, but as it stands at the moment, I believe we need to target (in no particular order, just get it done as best as possible) IOL, IDL, and Safety.

If Calais Campbell chooses to retire or return to a different team in ’25, our D-Line will be doomed as currently constituted… and our entire Defense will be doomed, to boot. And that is why I believe a DT (IDL) makes the most sense for us in the 1st round.

Many mocksters and draft mavens feel we HAVE to take a Guard (IOL) in the 1st round or else. Well… we need a system-fit in this intricate OZB scheme. If the shoe doesn’t fit in the 1st round with available players, we can address it later… not to mention, we WILL address one of the starting Guard positions in FA.

I was looking at this guy a few days ago as a late 5th round pick. If we were to double down on safety and get a ballhawk FS early. This is one of the guys I would get on day 3. He is one of the better tackling safeties in the draft. He would be an bonus on ST’s.

  60. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Some good points but I don’t think he gets traded. Because of his contract, he would be a 1 year rental for a team unless they restructure/extend him. Pats are going to become good again starting this year. They most likely will end up being a contender for a WC playoff spot more than the Dolphins this year.

I don’t see getting as high as a 2nd but maybe a couple picks with a 3rd being the highest. If Pats, I could see us getting #69, 104 and a 7th. Though, if Pats offered #69, #77 and take on like 5 mil of his dead cap, I would take it. Solid players at those picks.

  61. Randy's avatar Randy says:

You know Hill is a locker room cancer….or malcontent….why would you not want to trade him to a division team? Your best bet is he rots their locker room next. Always has been.

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

I wasn’t saying don’t trade him to the Pats. Just saying I think he doesn’t get traded at all. If we could get either scenario from the Pats (69, 104 and 7th or 69 and 77), I am all for it.

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

So long as we can replace him with the net return in this year’s Draft, I’m good with trading Hill.

No, Hill won’t be able to be replaced ‘immediately’. What I mean is we should target a Savion Williams with (presumably) the 2nd rounder we get in a trade for Hill.

You’ll also notice I don’t call him ‘Reek anymore… I’ve soured on him as of late. That could still change, but as of right now, I’m good with trading him… I also thought it was bonkers to trade for him in the first place, though I kept my mouth shut.

I tend to think of you are looking at OG, DT, S and LB then your sweet spot in the draft is after 13

    so I favor trading down

ideally we trade down and then up again to land multiple picks in the 3rd – 5th rounds and end up with 4 or more picks in the top 80

I noticed today that the finalist for DROY were named

and even though there were 5 finalist – only 3 teams were represented

the Dolphins, the Rams and the Eagles

it was pretty impressive how the Rams improved their pass rush and the Eagles improved their secondary in one offseason

I tend to think we can do the same

maybe we can dramatically improve our OL with two guards

I know it’s not a great draft for guards early – but maybe we can land 2 in the 2nd
