Happy Valentines Day

Happy Valentines Day to all my friends here, I hope you’re enjoying this financially driven holiday with loved ones or whoever you spend it with. My advice to you is think happy thoughts, in other words, try not to think of the Miami Dolphins so you can actually enjoy the day!

    Accountability starts with self.

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Very much agreed, Krishna. As far as our Phins are concerned, management should take more accountability. For instance, Steve Ross had no business getting involved in other people’s business (ie: Tom Brady and Sean Payton). It caused us to lose a 1st and 3rd round Draft pick.

Moral of the story: don’t be like Steve Ross!

      • Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

        I agree with you…

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Then respectfully, don’t pile on Tim. It’s not your business to get involved between him and SB7. We don’t need to lose any more bloggers here.

      • Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

To be clear, I was the only one who supported TK v sb7’s bullshit lying (revisionism). So, I have no clue what you mean…lol.

And, I’ve been called out twice for doing so against a liar…lmao. That’s crazy shit!

  2. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Sorry to say this, but this blog has only a few people who come here regularly anymore. To me the reason is because it’s become like ‘The View’. None of us control anything this team does. Our contribution is hoping and rooting for the team. That’s basically it!

It looks to me like people are tired of the nonsense.

  3. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Tim – I have to say what I feel. I can’t just be all excited and hopeful without a reason. I just write how i feel. I don’t care if it lines up with what anyone else feels, and I’ve offered to let anyone write an article if they’d like that was more positive. I’m just tired of the shit this team has been churning out. If they give me a reason to feel differently, I’ll feel different

  4. Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

TK, I have been a fan of this team before most of you were born. That doesn’t mean I have to like what I see.

    Should I not express it?

  5. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

This is a very exciting time of year for me, as y’all know!!! I love talkin’ the Draft with my fellow FMU Draftniks!!!

I miss our fellow blogger ‘D’, who used to go down to Mobile to scout the Senior Bowl… hope he comes back sometime soon. I also miss RGS (Rich)… he loved this time of year as well. I’m probably missing a couple of others, and they are all welcome back, I’m sure!

  6. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    Tim,

I respect your right to state your views, of course. But, I gotta say this blog is pretty damn mellow now compared to the shit that’s gone on with this group of people and others over the last 25 years. Lol

This team and its fans have endured decades of losing and it sucks. I need some winning.

  7. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Krishna, I guess we’re not on the same page. It’s okay, I’m no longer into blog wars. If you’re cool I’m cool. 🙂

  8. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

    Tim,

Don’t lose your edge, Brother. When I first came to Omar’s blog after Topix shut down their blogs, you were one funny MOFO who I seriously could dig! I get that time tempers everybody, sincerely… but take the time to be Tim the Enchanter & the Knight who says Ni every now and again, man!

Comedy is the great combiner of humanity… and even democrats could not deny Ronald Reagan of that!

  10. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

M13, thanks but I really don’t care anymore. I’m a Dolphins fan and will root again in 2025. If they finish 7-10, I’ll be bummed out but what am I going to do about it?

As a Mets fan, things look good on paper, now go play

  11. Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

I wrote/submitted an article to the blog on bullying when the Martin/Cognito issue came out. It was never posted.

It’s been a while, but I believe one of my first statements (question really) was how does a 6’5″, 325# man get bullied. I understand, somewhat, how someone of my stature and outspoken is bullied….lol.

  12. New Age's avatar New Age says:

    Tim,

That may be it for some people but it’s probably because of a lot of things, primarily being the team has been awful for 25 years. This has never been a huge site, and the super positive ones don’t get a ton of conversation either. I remember when you could comment at PhinPhanatic but that’s gone from what I see now.

People move on as their interests change and I can’t blame anyone for moving on from the Dolphins. One of the worst run franchises in football. Personally, I spend most of my free internet time on a gaming site that has a pretty large political section and is full of giant assholes. They have also lost people over the years but still have a pretty strong base of people who like to talk about all kinds of things.

I like the people here, but this was never my favorite places to talk because I like many things better than football, especially the watered-down version the NFL produces. So, I check this place out during the draft and the season and that’s it. Maybe I’ll drive down to a game with the people here in the next few years and get to know everyone better but that probably still won’t get me here posting regularly. Because this sport, and this team, both suck.

This is the only blog I visit. I’m a youtube addict instead. Yesterday was a rainy day so I watched the whole 6 episodes of a guy who took apart and old jet ski and mounted the engine on an old small johnboat. That thing was bad ass in the end and did 45 mph. lol

      • New Age's avatar New Age says:

        BBM,

I watch a lot of YouTube too. Lots of good stuff there. The funny thing is my nephew has gotten my dad into YouTube. It really is a site for anyone and just about any interest.

Yes, much more mellow now. I learned a lot from those conversations as BBM not a highly edumacated man.

  15. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

People here have changed as the time went by. Topics have changed too. Politics usually gets hot and then cold when people just get pissed off and then stay away. I know Ken, Stanger and Tim mostly just want to think positively and discuss in such a manner, and that’s why you don’t see Ken and Stanger here as often anymore. They don’t like the negativity or what I would call realism (LOL!)

We’re all getting older, and older folks usually have less patience. I have to say, I deal with the public every day, I work as an Optician in a retail environment, and I’m more patient now than I’ve ever been. It reminds me of a story my sister once told me regarding her and her son, who was about 5-7 at the time. She told him “Your teacher says how good you are in class, so why can’t you be like that at home?” He said “I use up all my good in school mom”. I think I’m the same way, I use up all my good at work, I got nothing left for you fuckers who want to throw positivity at me about this team. 🙂

    ————

Just freaking announce it already. The league year and free agency starts in 3 weeks and they have to be under by then. I guess teams, for now, can plan for 277.5 mill.

Spotrac still has us at -7,678,641 based on a 275 mill cap. So, we are more likely around -5,178,641.

        2025 Miami Dolphins Draft

        FA comes first…

        Re-sign: Calais Campbell, DL, Phins; Emmanuel Ogbah, DE, Phins; Benito Jones, DT, Phins; Tyrel Dodson, LB, Phins (AAS, per Spotrac: $5.0M/year); Kader Kohou, DB, Phins; Isaiah Wynn, OL, Phins; River Cracraft (AAS, per Spotrac: $1.1M/year);

        — Marcus Mariota, QB, Redskins (AAS, per Spotrac: $4.2M/year)

        — James Daniels, RG, Stealers* (AAS, per Spotrac: $7.8M/year)

        — Richie Grant, S, Falcons (AAS, per Spotrac: $5.3M/year)

We need to get to roughly $33M under the cap to account for these signings

    _____________

“Fowler listed 11 total tiers to place each of the 32 teams in and it is really hard to argue with his decision to put Miami in the simplest of “I have not clue what they are doing” category.

Jeremy Fowler’s 2025 NFL Overhaul Tiers

Still a major contender – Yeah, the Bills, Eagles, and Chiefs belong here.

On the cusp – Not sure the Dolphins are that close to being legit contenders.

Need a postseason breakthrough – Miami didn’t make it last year. Have to get there first.

Teetering Contenders – This might have been worth a mention here but it’s tricky.

Headed on the right track – We can’t say that with certainty, why should we?

Stuck in the middle but a move or two away – Need more than one or two moves.

Stuck in QB purgatory – That would be the Browns

This could go either way – Yep, and it literally could in 2025.

New coach, new direction – Maybe next year if Miami goes the other way in 2025.

Rebuild in the works – Dolphins are close to this one as well.

Yep, still rebuilding – Miami doesn’t continue, they never actually finish.

The reality is the Dolphins are literally an enigma. They could easily become a contender in the loaded AFC if they actually played with some discipline and consistency.

Mike McDaniel is a good head coach, but he is so wrapped up in being well-liked that he can’t hold his team accountable. Super Bowl winning teams are not all “Koombaya” on and off the field. Bill Belichick and Tom Brady didn’t always get along, and Dan Marino and Don Shula butted heads a lot during their days together.”

  31. Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

    IF it was GM Krishna…lol:

    1. Assess, evaluate and define your core/key players with 2-3 year life spans only…this is NOT to include 1 and dones.
    2. Contracts on above: extend, but no restructure, i.e. no pushing money down the road. That ends now. We’re building for a dynasty, not a flashlight in a moment. (P.S. I’m not an NFL contract guy, have little understanding, but right now this team’s ability to get and retain core players is severely strapped, imo. So, FIX this shit!).
    3. Sincerely, religiously (lol) address the OL via whatever means, FA and draft, with the focus on draft. Get the Best IOL and….more.
    4. Address the DL, again focus on the draft.
    5. We need core, young, CB, Safety, and more. This draft, according to what I understand from this blog, is loaded on the D side. We need to draft starters….lol. I’m giving bonuses to my scouts who find these players! A D LIKE THE EAGLES, BEATS A CHIEFS TEAM EVERY TIME. And Bills and Ravens and…

This a blueprint for now, to lay the foundation for the future. One year, to lay groundwork that could change the trajectory of this team for years.

I don’t care (I do) about our record next year if we do the above. I will care to see the following year’s results, especially, if we continue to shape the blueprint, i.e. we will need a QB for this future as Tua is too fragile and actually hurts the team’s progress because he can’t stay on the field for a season without compromising the team in a variety of ways.

    Just a thought or two…lol

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

IF we allow Jevon Holland walk into FA, he will be the #1 FA Safety on the market. What is it he’s projected to get paid… something between $17-19M/year? That would likely net us a 3rd or 4th round compensatory pick in the ’26 Draft if I’m not mistaken.

That’s the route we should go, IMO. No need to slap the franchise tag on him and run the risk of being stuck with him for the projected $19M that a Safety would cost, should nobody bite… though we’d get a 2nd rounder in exchange if memory serves.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I heard the cap is going up 20+M.

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

M, have you checked out ILB Demetrius Knight Jr? He’s your big ILB you like at 6’1, 245 pounds and moves well.

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

The economics of the cap going up are a double-edged sword. Sure, it will help teams who are in the red in terms of cap relief… but teams who are already in the black ALSO get the same relief.

In other words, we’re not suddenly going to be able to outbid a team who is already in the black for a player we covet. What’s more, a team firmly in the black can suddenly reset the market for a given position… and that comes back to bite EVERYBODY in the ass one day.

IMO, it’s akin to just printing $$$, thus causing inflation.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Exactly right and I don’t think we should be big players in FA anyway. But it does allow us to deepen the roster with good players who won’t break the bank. We have to have a productive draft.

Too many injuries have been an issue with our team. If that continues I’m not sure it matters what we do.

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

I think they already announced that they would let Holland test free agency

Or at least people are reporting it’s expected to happen

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Yes, I think it is expected that Holland will enter FA. But until OFFICIAL, who knows. Perhaps we try to gain something via a ‘sign and trade’ or the franchise tag.

I’m happy with just letting him walk, so as not to run the risk of a plan that backfires on us.

        • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

The only reason I brought up what I did? I can be a GREEDY pig, just like you! The thought of getting a 2nd rounder by tagging Holland is intriguing to me… particulary because the franchise tag ($19M and some change) is equivelent to what he’s expected to make yearly on a new FA deal.

I think it is too risky to get into that game.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I don’t think Holland is a top 10 safety. He does make some impact plays but he’s not consistently really good, and he gets banged up a lot. He’ll get offers though. The vibe I get is he will sign elsewhere. We shall see.

        • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

I don’t think Holland is a top-10 Safety either, but some (including Omar) say he was playing NOT TO GET HURT last season… in order to get the bag as a FA.

Not sure (if true) that was the wisest plan of action for Holland… his numbers sucked as a result and he’s been in statistical decline since his rookie season.

          We shall see is right.

Oh! Now I know why I haven’t looked at him. I cannot take an ILB/MLB so early… unless his name is Jihaad Campbell.

      ——————-

That’s just PFF’s ranking for ILB Knight as 6 other sites have him ranked #60 (draftbuzz) to #156 (ESPN). The majority have him as a mid to late 3rd.

Have all our draft picks been confirmed?

      • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

They still haven’t 100% confirmed comp picks yet. Sites like Tankathon have the formula down and is probably the most accurate.

They show us getting #98 for Robert Hunt, #135 for Wilkins and #252 for Deshon Elliott. Sucks Wilkins got hurt, we would of had 98 and 99.

        • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Sucks even more that we let both of them go! Should have played Tua on his 5th year, kept Wilkins and Hunt, and then continue building the team, draft a QB, and never look back

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Mike, Tua is responsible for winning more games than Wilkins and Hunt. The problem is his durability. The other two don’t take over games. They were absolutely overpaid.

      • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

If we didn’t have Calais Campbell, this defense would have sucked. Add in the fact that all people talk about is how bad our OG play is, I don’t agree with you. Tua’s not competitive when we play better teams, it’s just the way it is, his record is there for everyone to see.

        • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

The team hasn’t been good enough to beat the top tier for decades. It’s never been about one player. Marino couldn’t do it either. With Don Shula and Jimmy Johnson.

And they pick 1 spot ahead of us. They either take RB Jeanty or OT Membou before us. They have picks 12, 44, 76, so likely to take an OT/OG we covet. Maybe they still go Jeanty at 12 and OG at 44.

Don’t know what their scheme is going to be now but they could opt for OG Tyler Booker.

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

I like Glendon Miller 6’2, 196 as a 7th round Safety pick. He’s got good ball skills and had 7 INT’s over the last 2 seasons. Played FS and NB or covered slot when they play 3 safeties.

      Mike E,

Hindsight is 20/20, though you were right! I admit it… YOU WERE RIGHT.

Now then, it’s time to stop gloating about how right you were. Even I haven’t gloated in the past as much as you have been as of late.

I used to piss a LOT of people off in the past with my gloating: it’s off-putting. NOT trying to tell ya how to act, but from my experiences/mistakes… it pisses people off, my guy.

2025 is a new season and a reason for hope. Though you KNOW I agree with ya that I’ve not much confidence in GM Grief making the picks.

You ARE acknowledged as being right, in my book, regarding the Tua extension. Now, it’s time to move forward, Bro. There’s no time to gloat if we’re to make this team great again, my friend.

Negativity is a waste of energy. I know, I know… we’re all guilty of as much, especially me when it comes to Steve Ross.

I’m TRYING to stay positive, despite the negativity. And the truth is, if we can fix our O-Line, we’re once again going to be the #1 Offense in the league.

I’ve become a fan of Danny Stutsman and I think you’ll see why on this highlight reel

he’s really a fun aggressive LB who makes a lot of plays. Really versatile too.

      • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

There’s a lot to like about Stutsman. I thought he was going to enter the draft last year and posted video’s about him then. His only weakness is in coverage, man coverage that is, he is good in zone coverage.

I have been up in the air where to take him. His rankings are all over the place. Four sites have him as a 2nd, three sites a 3rd, 2 sites a 4th and PFF has him as a 6th.

I guess if he is your guy don’t wait past the 3rd.

No idea why you want to sign an old, bad QB. This team needs young QBs in its stable. When Tua goes out again, an old backup QB isn’t going to save the season.

And, historically speaking, many things have been spurred on and done because of negativity. It’s probably a bigger motivating factor for change than positivity. I’m trying to help the Dolphins change! To be better. 🙂

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Tim – I know I blame Tua for everything, and that’s because he was the linchpin in which direction the team went, a huge part in the scope of building the team
there’s no denying it. Once they went all in on Tua, they let our best players go and brought back much lesser players and way too many one year contracts. I blame Tua because the way I see it, they totally fucked the team, thinking Tua and this offense could carry the day. As it turns out, Tua can beat the weak teams, but brings nothing to the table when we play better teams. He’s not up for it, not good enough to elevate his game, or the team. They worried more about his feelings than they did about the whole team. Who gives a fuck if he’s insulted by playing him on his 5th year option? You’re building a team, build a great team, don’t just get an oft injured QB who can’t beat the better teams, and Tim, don’t tell me it’s the whole team. You know the QB is the most important player, you have to be right about the QB. He’s not even competitive in most of those games. There’s so many examples if him throwin futg 4 TD’s and completing 70% of his passes against weak teams and then we play a good team and he throws 1 TD, 1 or 2 INT’S and 55% of his passes. That doesn’t cut it, and the team is fucking incomplete now due to their strategy of going all in on Tua, as well as Tyreek Hill, Jalen Ramsey, Jaylen Waddle and Bradley Chubb. Now all of a sudden in one draft and Free Agency you think they’re finally going to get it right? O most certainly do not, because their draft record SUCKS and we have no cap space unless they fuck this team even more by restructuring contracts or trading future picks that will fuck us further down the line. Theses guys should have been sent packing. They’re inept.

Many seem to have forgotten about DT Joshua Farmer, 6’3, 318 and projected to be one of the fastest IDL in the draft, 4.85 forty. I don’t know why, maybe because FSU sucked so bad last year. I don’t see him as a nose. He struggles with double teams. I see him more as a 3-4 DE like Seiler with his athletic ability. He flashes more when he lined up out there. Over last 2 seasons he has 64 tackles, 9 sacks and 15 TFL.

PFF has him as a second rounder. I think he will be there late 3rd and maybe early 4th. He may climb with his combine results.

This is a fringe playoff team. This team is terrible at self scouting. It’s impossible to fix problems if your head’s stuck in the sand. That includes a bad locker room. The “leaders” of this team can’t lead. Just plugging in a couple new guys on the OL ain’t gonna do it.

I think this is a huge offseason for this team. They can jettison some of the stuff that hasn’t worked and try to right the ship….or they can keep kicking the can. We’ll see how they handle it. But, just like some of us did the last couple years, if their plan isn’t working I think it’s okay to say they fucked up. That’s not being negative.

      ————-

Well, there are only so many vet QBs available… they don’t grow on trees. 😉

Of the remaining vet QBs available, I see Marcus Mariota as being the best system-fit for us. What’s more, he’s a dual-threat QB who can get some big gains with his wheels.

He’s not so old and so bad, either: he looked rather good in Washington last season in the limited time he got to play. You should check out his highlights from last season as proof.

And the major selling point for Mariota? He won’t break the bank. Spotrac estimates his AAS as $4.2M. Make no mistake, we’ve gotta draft a QB as well, IMO. My guy is Dillon Gabriel, who I believe is going to fall to day 3 due to his (lack of) height and age for a rook.

I do understand, truly. I’m trying to stay positive, as difficult as it is to do so. Lets say we start the season 0-2… I’m probably going to flip the fuck out and be where you are right now. And I WHOLEHEARTEDLY agree with you that changes needed to be made to our brass.

I’m hanging on by a thread, my Brother! It ain’t easy, to be sure.

    • Randy's avatar Randy says:

      Tim,

MM is not a leader. He’s a buddy. Tua isn’t a leader. You can’t miss crucial games and be watching constantly and be a leader. Tyreek has never been a leader. He’s a tough dude who is a very good player, but he’s too into his own to be a real leader. They talk a lot but that’s about it. Do you see things differently?

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I think MM and Tua not being leaders are just opinions. Nothing really substantial to go by. Being hurt does not mean you’re not a leader. That’s just pile on type stuff. To me anyway.

    • Randy's avatar Randy says:

      M13,

I just don’t see any reason to have a vet like him on the roster. I want our QB room full of young guys. I’m fine if none of them have more than 4 years in the league. Just find the right ones. When Tua goes down, I’d prefer they put in a young QB whom they’ve groomed well enough to step in and play. We see rookie QBs doing it constantly now. Find a couple young guys and coach them up. What does a vet QB bring? If we go to our backup QB, the season is over. The players showed us that this last season.

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

If we want a chance to win when Tua inevitably goes down again, a savvy vet gives us the best chance… not a rook, unless we draft a QB hella early.

        You know this!

        • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

And we’ve got WAY too many holes to plug — both sides of the ball — before we can consider drafting a QB early, IMO.

    • Randy's avatar Randy says:

I think when Campbell came on board things started to shift in the leadership department. I will say that, but it only goes so far on the offense. He’s not on the field then.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Randy, you can’t have roster spots taken up by projects at QB. You need a starter, a viable backup and then one project. We got caught using three different QBs that were not good enough and couldn’t win with.

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

I think Mariota is our best vet option. As far as rookies go, I don’t like Ewers, not much of a ceiling there, IMO. Milroe will need a few years to develop. Best options for the Dolphins are 2nd round Jackson Dart, 3rd or 4th round Will Howard or 7th round Tyler Shough.

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

QB Kyle Trask is a free agent who might not cost much. Just came off his rookie contract. He was the backup for Tom Brady for 2 years then backup for Baker Mayfield the last 2 years.
