I’m going to try and be objective as possible. Those of you that follow this team know the roster was not as good last season as it was in 2023. This year, there will be even more turnover and attrition on the roster, with possibly close to 30 new players not on the roster last season. Some might see that as a negative, but some may just want cleanse this roster some anyway. I’m going to stay neutral now and not inject my personal feelings into this.
I think it’s fair to say that most Miami Dolphins fans understand the need to improve this team in the trenches, both the offensive and defensive lines. On the offensive line, LT Terron Armstead is still on the payroll, but he hasn’t officially made a decision on whether he’s returning or retiring, and to be fair, we drafted a LT in the 2nd RD last season, and being a 2nd RD pick, that means he has a 4 year contract and no 5th year option. If you sit LT Patrick Paul and just use him as a safety net for Terron Armstead, that’s not a great draft pick and usage of it. You could have taken a player that could have given you a much bigger impact at a different position of need, such as interior O-line or defensive line. When you have very little salary cap to play with and a lot of spots to fill, I think it would be an easy decision to play Patrick Paul and and let Terron go, who hopefully retires.
On the offensive line, C Aaron Brewer and RT Austin Jackson are the only returning starters from 2024. If they decide to run with Patrick Paul at LT, that means only the 2 OG positions are open for starting competition, and there isn’t much competition at the moment with OG Liam Eichenberg the only potential player to compete with. On the defensive line, it’s basically DT Zach Sieler, so you can see how badly we need defensive tackles and defensive ends. In the 3-4, we need a nose tackle and LDE, and I know there’s a chance that Calais Campbell returns, but I doubt he plays at the discounted rate he gave us last season, where his play was excellent and so crucial to the defense. You have to think the D-line is possibly even more important than the offensive line right now, though it’s close. Last season we brought in a bunch of bodies, and we lucked out that DE Calais Campbell was still around. You most certainly can’t count on that this season, and especially not at the same price.
At one CB spot, you have an aging superstar in Jalen Ramsey. Opposite him, a collection of huge question marks including our 2023 first draft pick in RD 2 (#51) CB Cam Smith, along with 2024 undrafted free agents CB Storm Duck, Ethan Bonner, Jason Maitre and Isaiah Johnson. If that’s not daunting, The only S on the roster is 2024 6th RD draft pick (#198), S Patrick McMorris. Jordan Poyer was on a 1 YR contract and we should be thankful for that. Jevon Holland will find paydirt elsewhere, so CB and S are two pretty big needs. Not quite as much as the trenches on either side of the ball, but we need players, and we need starters at 3 spots, which is a lot to fill, LCB, FS and SS.
At LB, we have one spot locked up with LILB Jordyn Brooks returning. The rest will be a lot of competition from incumbent players such as OLB Jaelan Phillips who is returning from a devastating knee injury in Week 4. Last year’s impressive rookie OLB Chop Robinson should be competing for more playing time. Then there’s also the bigger question, does OLB/DE Bradley Chubb make his return or he is a post June 1st cut to open up some cap space. There’s also 5th RD (#158) Mo Kamara who will be competing for a LB/DE spot. Both ILB’s Anthony Walker Jr. and Tyrel Dodson are Free Agents, but a reunion with one or both is possible, as long as it’s a fair price.
On the offensive side of the ball, the other glaring need besides the O-line is backup QB. This should be a high priority, finding a competent backup QB who can win a game, if/when starter QB Tua Tagovailoa goes down. Last year that simply was not the case, and you’d think they learned their lesson. There are an awful lot of names on that free agent list, including Sam Darnold, Zach Wilson, Jacoby Brissett, Jimmy Garoppolo, Jameis Winston, Carson Wentz, Case Keenum, Joe Flacco, Marcus Mariota, and then some intriguing ones such as Justin Fields and Daniel Jones. The last two are dynamic players who have struggled, but have upside, at least in Justin Fields case. Daniel Jones might just need the right fit, and I could see him succeeding here in Miami with the talent we have at receiver. Fixing the O-line and D-line are 1 and 2, or 2 and 1 in priority, but backup QB is right up there.
The potential strength of this team at the moment is at WR, and RB. WR Tyreek Hill, despite the dropoff last season is one of the best in the business, but they need to be careful with him in 2 regards. I think they should ask the players how they feel about him being a captain next season, and if they vote NO, he has to accept that. The other part is they have to find a way to get him involved as much as possible, last year was ridiculous. He caught 30 less passes last season, but he had an 800 yard dropoff in yardage which is about half the yardage he had last season, and also a drop in half fro receiving TD’s, 6 last season compared to 13 in 2023. WR Jaylen Waddle’s drop was not as significant, but with the turmoil always swirling around Tyreek Hill, I’d like to see Waddle take on a larger role. The deoth at WR is a bit troubling although I see a lot of upside in SWR Malik Washington. WR Tahj Washington will get more of a chance, but it’s hard to imagine that WR Erik Ezukanma, who once showed loads of potential will manage to finally stay healthy and put it all together. I think a bigger bodied WR should be in the cards, either in the draft or Free Agency, or both.
At RB, you have to love the versatility, and newfound durability of RB De’Von Achane. Achane gave the Dolphins 1500 yards from the LOS last season and played in every game, 907 yards rushing and 592 yards receiving. If he can stay healthy and have a better O-line and be able to run both inside and outside, he could have a 2000+ yards from the LOS season. After him is last years 4th RD pick (#120) who looked so promising, but was never really given opportunities with only 68 carries and 3 receptions. We traded away our 2025 3rd RD pick to go into the 4th RD last year, so you would have hoped for more production, and it better come this season. After those two though the cupboard is bare, so we will be bringing in at least one vet and probably another either in the draft or as an UDFA. TE’s Julian Hill, Tanner Conner and Hayden Rucci will all begin on the roster but hopefully we can upgrade from at least 3 of those guys.
On Special Teams, both K Jason Sanders and P Jake Bailey will return, and K Jason Sanders had a fantastic 2024 season, converting 37-41 FG tries, including an outstanding 12-14 from 50 yards and beyond. P Jake Bailey also had a nice season, close to his career best average per punt at 47.1, and his best net at 40.7. As for the rest of the special teams unit, KR/PR Malik Washington seems very qualified and of course the wonderful ST’s coordinator Danny Crossman was given his walking papers, so you’d have to think our special teams unit can only improve.
So I’ve laid out the groundwork that needs to be done, and as anyone with eyes can see, it’s pretty extensive and of course will need to be done without a generous amount of cap room. Of course the latter can be remedied, but that comes at the cost of restructuring contracts you may truly regret having next year and beyond, and we can only hope that Chris Grier is a fair steward of such things and knowing that he at least should be on the hot seat if the team falters this season, that he resists the temptation to mortgage the future. We know that we brought in Coach Bobby Slowik who will join the staff as Senior Passing Game Coordinator, along with OC Frank Smith and QB’s/Passing Game Coordinator Darrell Bevell. I wouldn’t mind if HC Mike McDaniel would relinquish the playcalling to one of those guys, but with his job also potentially in peril if this team doesn’t perform well, that would be a tough choice for McDaniel to make.
I hope you enjoy this article, I left as much personal negativity towards this team as I possibly could and tried to be fair in my assessments. I don’t expect 100% agreement all around, that’s not what I’m looking for. I do think though any reader can see just how much needs to be done in this offseason, armed with 10 draft picks, #13, #28, #98, #115, #135, #151, #156, #226, #233 and #252. At the moment, Spotrac shows us in the red, at -$7.68M under the cap. That really puts pressure on Grier and Mike McDaniel to not only hit on a few draft picks, and by hit, I mean getting significant plus playing time this season, as well as hitting on free agent signings all over the roster, and expect a lot more 1 year contracts as the cap will force this, even with the increase this season. As I outlined, there are just so many roster spots up for grabs, starting ones as well, so this will be quite the daunting task. Let’s hope both GM Chris Grier, HC Mike McDaniels and our collective stomachs are up for it!
GO DOLPHINS!!!!

Good write, Mike!
RIP James Bond
Who died?
I’m going to stay neutral now and not inject my personal feelings into this.
So, when I read this, I paused for a good 20-30 seconds before going on to the next sentence, imagining your personal feelings. LOL
🤣
The 2025 season will be Ross, Grier, McDaniel and a 53 man roster and whatever the PS is. We all go from there as fans.
You did a good job staying neutral Mike. To the point that I was jibbering and spitting with malice the parts you so sedately glossed over in my living room.
Lmao! Thank you Mike E.! Your restraint was admirable. Kudos!
I tried my best
Fair and balanced…lol
Tim/M13,
My preference for the quarterback room would be a rookie, a guy in about his third year and Tua. This team needs to develop QB talent. If the 3rd year guy is a 5th year guy with skills…that’s fine. I just want young. This team isn’t good enough to overcome losing its starting QB, so a vet QB isn’t really gonna do much for you. If our OL is still struggling any old, slower vet QB is gonna struggle anyway, right? Anyway, it’s not that big a deal.
Leaders play. They play through shit. They don’t lead from the sideline watching. Talk is cheap. We heard a lot from guys like Hill and Tua about how they were tough and gonna show people. MM too. They failed miserably. That’s not leadership. It just isn’t. Not to mention former and current players talking about its lack.
Hmmmm
Have any of you here watched Amazon’s “The Rings of Power”?
QB Kyle Trask is a free agent who might not cost much. Just came off his rookie contract. He was the backup for Tom Brady for 2 years then backup for Baker Mayfield the last 2 years.
The definition of insanity miighr define 2025. I hope not!
This is a moment to course correct! Imo…lol.
If we don’t, I will get older hoping…lmao
wtf…might
Nolan Smith played through a torn triceps in the Eagles’ Super Bowl LIX victory, per NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo and Ian Rapoport.
—————
MM wouldn’t have let that happen.
I’m not into Pollyanna bullshit. Nor, was Mrs K.
This team needs to change direction or Ross will die hoping…for real.
Oops

Randy, who’s the 3rd year QB guy worth investing in?
I have no idea why we went all in on Tua…a fragile commodity.
He was signed off of playing in all 18 games in 2023. You have no idea?
Playing like he played in 2023 isn’t winning football and not really sustainable. He played in bubble wrap.
And everyone wants better OL. Why?
He’s played 1 full season out of 4. He learned how to fall in 2023 and never took a hit. That’s all it takes with this regime to prove your worth? Lmao.
Then, the regime gives TH more money just because…..
How/can we recover from tbat?
Well done Mike .. kudos for restraining
Tim,
It’s their job to find backups and coach them. Do I have to do everything? Lol
Tim – We’ve been over this so many times. Every now and again a QB has to make a play, sometimes he has to keep the play alive, sometimes he has to use his legs to run. In 2023, that went all out the window. It was “Save your body at all costs!”. You don’t win like that in the NFL, and that had nothing to do with the O-line. Even the best get sacked, and get hit when they take off for a scramble, or even after they release the ball. They made Tua throw so quickly and that reduced the chances of him getting hit. Again, not winning football. Especially now that apparently defenses have figured out how to stymie our pass game, throwing the ball before 2 seconds many times is just giving up. Tua has one more year here to prove he can be more that, but if I were a betting man (I’m not), I’d bet big money against it because I don’t think he can do it, play a whole season doing some of the things that Pat Mahomes has to do, or really any championship QB has to do.
Fair enough. I guess we just have to hope.
I listened to a pod cast with Greg Cosell as a guest. His top 4 QB’s in the draft are Ward, Shough, Sanders and Milroe. He said of all the QB’s he watched tape on, Shough had the second best tape he watched. Says he does a lot of the little things right so there won’t be a lot that a team will have to fix.
QB’s size preference in the NFL has changed and smaller QB’s are no longer looked past. Says that bigger QB’s like Shough at 6’5 still have an advantage in seeing the field and reading defenses (of course).
Even though Shough had the second best tape, he expects Shough to go later in the draft due to his injury history and age. He did add that most all NFL teams don’t care if a QB they draft is 24yo as they should be able to play another 10-12 years in the league.
Another thing I liked that Cosell said was, in essence, that social media has a way of hyping the wrong players.
We have known this but still so true.
My last mock, I wanted Skattebo at #91 when I made that trade down. He went at 89. I was pissed. lol He would be such a stud in our RB rotation. I wanted to add WR Savion Williams and Skattebo that draft, I had to take Arroyo instead.
When does draft capital become official?
It usually gets announced in the first week of March. My guess is the 4th or 5th as they never seem to announce anything on a Monday. lol
Comp picks that is. Then we will know exactly how many and where we pick.
Thanks, I figured it was some time in March.

7 NFL Trades That Would Shake Up Free Agency, Draft Projections
Moe Moton
Dolphins Trade Tyreek Hill to the Commanders
Miami Dolphins Get: 2025 2nd-round pick, 2025 5th-round pick, 2026 3rd-round pick
Washington Commanders Get: WR Tyreek Hill, 2025 7th-round pick and a 2026 5th-round pick
7 NFL Trades That Would Shake Up Free Agency, Draft Projections
————–
I mentioned this exact trade back when Tyreek made those post game comments. I would take it. We only clear 500k(ish) in 2025 cap but a shit ton of cap in 2026.
We get a 2nd, pick #61 (insert WR Savion Williams here), then we get pick #148 for one of our 7th round picks. 2026 we get another 3rd for our 5th round pick.
Some others he predicts:
Myles Garrett to Chargers
Matthew Stafford and Cooper Cupp to Steelers
If we can, we should….absolutely!
A late day 3 RB to think of is Bhayshul Tuten, 5’9, 211 pounds. He could be one of the fastest players at the combine, possibly top 5 as he is projected to run a 4.32
Faller: DL Deone Walker, Kentucky
There are only so many people walking the planet with the size and athleticism of the 6’7″, 340-pound Deone Walker. Yet he doesn’t use his mountainous frame to his advantage with any kind of consistency.
The 20-year-old was initially being looked at as a potential top-15 draft pick entering the 2024 campaign. A closer inspection of his game showed an individual who doesn’t play with good leverage, technique or consistent effort.
2025 NFL Draft: Biggest Risers and Fallers Ahead of the Scouting Combine
Coaching
Nah, lack of effort. It’s been the knock on him since the 2023 season.
I don’t see us winning anything with or without Tyreek Hill, so if we can get good compensation for him, do it!
Got to post him again. Trade Hill to Commanders for pick #61 and draft WR Savion Williams. What a HUGE weapon in our offense at 6’5, 225 pounds and a projected 4.45 forty (maybe faster, eyes will be on him at the combine).
Lol….
“The coaches and GM schedules have been released ahead of the combine week. In total, three teams will not have their general manager present for media sessions. The Dolphins are one of those three, with the other two being Dallas and Chicago.”
TH had surgery on his wrist, supposedly….

They said during the season he would have surgery to fix it.
I can’t/can imagine how being thrown to the ground and chuffed aggravated that…lmao
For speeding….lmao
^cuffed
I’m sold! I think he would make a huge impact for us. That’s what we need, doesn’t matter what position.
he nails the problem on the head
Julian Hill was horrible
but it concerns me that McDaniel didn’t make adjustments – we just kept trying those wide runs and screens with Julian Hill on the field
maybe we draft a TE high, but our coach’s unwillingness to try something different when the game plan wasn’t working is also a problem
Tyler Warren draws comparisons to Mike Gesicki so?
That’s my concern. Though I don’t think he is like Gesicki in that he can run after the catch and run over people. He is gifted but he was not ranked that high in blocking, though not bad either. Mason Taylor grades higher in blocking.
I don’t get the hype on Derrick Harmon. Five sites have him as a 1st round pick, four others a very early 2nd (by pick 38) and latest projection by pick 48. Sure, he is a nice DT prospect. I see power and a heavy punch but that’s about it. He graded well in pass rush and run defense but graded poorly in tackling. He’s a pass for me. Dolphins don’t need another poor tackler on defense.
Draftbuzz graded him 39% in tackling. Not exactly sure what that means but know it is not good. A TE who is not a good blocker still gets a grade around 50% in blocking. Not sure where PFF grades him in tackling.
I’ve seen Tyler Warren compared to Jeremy Shockey. I’ll take Jeremy Shockey compared to the absolute shit we’ve had at TE, with the exception of Jonnuuuuu
That’s probably a closer comparison.
Excuse me while I clean off my Keyboard

Test Test Test
am I banned or something!?!?
I have written two posts in the last 10 minutes and they have not appeared. There weren’t any links in them so they should not be in the spam folder.
TEST
Our great overlords at Amazon don’t like me bad mouthing their POS company so they have reached in and censored me.
Mike E, response to your question regarding the comment I made about James Bond in the spam folder.
Is it because Amazon purchased the Bond Franchise?
Tyler Warren is probably going to be a very good player in the NFL, but scouting reports vary about him as a complete TE. He looks the part though.
He’s a complete TE. Those who don’t see that don’t know shit about scouting. Some people just like to pick apart everything.
Tim, the similarities between Warren and Gesicki are as follows:
they both played for Penn St.
they are both tall
they both have good hands (I would argue Warren has great hands)
they can both high point the ball
Warren is MUCH more athletic and a lot tougher. He played QB in high school and played all over the place in college, hence the “Swiss Army Knife” nickname
Gotcha!
Warren is actually a former QB and he was used a lot in the wildcat at PSU
he can run short yardage plays as the goaline – he’s very unique
and he’s a much better blocker than Gesicki – MUCH BETTER
oh Brian said that…lol
I agree with Brian
Warren is one of a handful of really gifted players in this draft. He’s probably more similar to Jonnu Smith than Warren
just curious if anyone has any thoughts on the other TEs in this draft class
and by other I mean TEs other than Tyler Warren
Colston Loveland?
Gunner Helm?
Elijah Arroyo?
I’ve mocked Arroyo to us a ton of times but it’s really convenience of being a day 3 pick
I’m pretty sure Warren is the. Est blocker of the group but can anyone else hold their own – Gunner Helm maybe?
Mason Taylor
I read today that the 49ers and Deebo Samuel are probably splitting ways this offseason one way or another
and there is a possibility Samuel is cut before 3/12 so the 49ers can somehow spread the dead cap hit over two rounds
I have to admit – I’m intrigued about the idea of trading Tyreke Hill and replacing g him with Samuel and then maybe adding a TE via the draft and using Waddle as our deep threat
I don’t know the cap implications of all that and I think our OL is the priority but….its interesting to me
I’m not really interested in bashing Hill, but checking out of the final game really has me questioning his presence on the team
one of the worst things a player can do is give up on his team
I think we take an absolute beating if we trade Tyreek this year. Without destroying our future cap even more, trading for Deebo, who would want more money, would not be feasible.
But BBM, our resident cap expert, can give more detail on that.
Now you’ve done in Brian
now I’m gonna be obsessed with drafting Jason Taylor’s son
haha! He’d be a decent pick, but he’s projected to go in the third round, which we don’t have right now. This doesn’t rule out Grier giving someone nexts years second to get a third rounder this year though…
we have the 98th overall which is a 3rd rounder
we also have 2 4ths
yeah the comp pick. I think he goes before that though.
Watching Jets vs Sharks.. they just went over Mike Grier family tree .. Mike and Chris are related to Rosie Grier.. I did not know this.
So who here thinks taking a TE at #13 is the way to go? Is Tyler Warren the best player on the board? I think he’s going to go earlier than that but if he’s there?
I just feel like we have to get great players. This roster has so many holes, there’s no one player that solves all the problems. If a fantastic OG was there like Zack Martin or something like that, then take the OG, but that won’t be the case. Just get a player that will make an immediate impact and help the team be better
Players I would take at #13 (of the ones who could fall to us): DT Mason Graham, CB Will Johnson, OL Will Campbell, TE Tyler Warren, OT Membou.
that’s pretty much my list too
although I lll add a couple layers that I think are minor reaches like Walter Nolan, Malaki Starks, Kelvin Banks, Josh Simmons or Kenneth Grant
Todd McShay was basically saying Membou was the perfect fit for us
I think he is. That’s why I didn’t mention Banks or Simmons, especially with Simmons coming off a major injury. I agree, I think 13 might be a reach for Starks and Grant.
Per nextgen stats, Membou is their highest graded OL. Their top 11:
RB Ashton Jeanty
Edge Abdul Carter
CB/WR Travis Hunter
TE Tyler Warren
DT Walter Nolen
TE Colston Loveland
CB Will Johnson
DT Mason Graham
WR Luther Burden
Edge Mykel Williams
OT Armand Membou
This isn’t them predicting where they will be drafted. It’s predicting their success probability in the NFL (basically) based on stats and abilities.
Example: Their first QB doesn’t show up on the list until #24 Cam Ward. Then QB Sanders doesn’t show up until #60.
Safety Malaki Starks doesn’t show up until #44 and there are 3 other safeties graded ahead of him.
Mason Taylor is their 3rd best graded TE. I also see many players we are mocking to us with our day 3 picks showing up in the top 100: ILB Cody Simon, DT JJ Pagues, OG Joshua Gray, OT Charles Grant, DT Ty Hamilton, ILB Stutsman, DT Ty Robinson, ILB Demetrius Knight, WR Jack Bech, Safety Billy Bowman, ILB Carson Schwesinger, DT Cam Jackson, Safety Lathan Ransom, TE Mitchell Evans, TE Thomas Fidone, RB Damian Martinez.
Again, not that they will be drafted in the top 100.
First through 3rd round, there is projected to be 101 picks.
I’d draft Taylor. He looked great at the Sr Bowl. He’s kind of boring in how he does what he does, but he looks very polished.
I agree. He’s just solid and graded the best blocker in the top 5.
We have Jackson at RT and Paul at LT. If we draft Membou, where does he play? Are you guys thinking Jackson or Paul is going away or getting beat out?
RG (maybe LG) and backup OT. Him next Jackson would be stellar. Sign a vet LG and we have a solid OL, IMO. I also mock UM OT Jalen Rivers to us in the 5th. He projects to move inside to either OG position with the ability to still play OT.
Wouldn’t drafting Will Campbell be a better idea? You throw him in at tackle and if that doesn’t work out there put him at LG and he might end up being really good.
If he falls to us, yes. I think he would be a superb LG.
Doing the mock drafts, he never falls to #13, hence the constant trade downs with many holes to fill until after FA. In reality, he could be there and I would take him.
Seems every other mock I do, Campbell goes to the Pats at #4 but that is when Edge Abdul Carter is off the board within the first 3 picks.
Seems every mock Pats take either Abdul Carter or Will Campbell.
BBM,
Your list had Membou on it but not Campbell. I don’t read stuff online, but I assumed that meant folks thought Membou is better.
The irrational side of my brain has never liked Mizzou players. Lol
That was just nextgens ranking. Will Campbell comes in 3 spots after Membou on their list at #14. I like Campbell over Membou.
For me, if Campbell is there at #13, I am running to the podium. If not, I might trade down a couple spots, but probably safer to just take Membou there.
Never liked Missouri players either, lol
BBM,
I think there are a lot of guys who are going to come out of this draft starting a lot of games at guard in the NFL.
I do to and many of them are listed as OT right now.
13.Armand Membou OT Missouri
48.Jahdae Barron S Texas
98.Shemar Turner DT Texas A&M
115.Dillon Gabriel QB Oregon
135.Demetrius Knight Jr. LB South Carolina
151.Garrett Dellinger OG LSU
156.Jacob Parrish CB Kansas State
226.Tim Smith DT Alabama
233.Andrew Armstrong WR Arkansas
252.Nofoafia Tulafono OC Wyoming
Randy
everything I’ve read has Membou projected to play at OG
he might be too short to play OT in the NFL
just read that Terron Armstead is restructuring to reduce his salary to league min while he decides whether to retire or not
which if true is a huge help to us
That should clear anywhere from 11 to 14 million in cap. There will still be a good bit of dead money no matter what. I will have to look at spotrac but I think he will have around 8 million in dead cap this year, next year and some void years.
The dead money in void years is much less than the 8 million.

@MiamiDolphins
Roster Move | We have been awarded CB Ryan Cooper Jr. off waivers from Seattle.
I saw he was released a few days ago. We will pick up his contract which was only $840,000.
That tweet I posted above is totally wrong. Armstead’s Contract is already convoluted with void years in 26 & 27 to pay for bonuses he has already received. Him restructuring to league minimum now will not clear up that much space, unless Terron wants to cut the Dolphins a check….I find that extremely unlikely.
His current cap hit for 25 is 9M with 18M in dead cap for 25
his cap hit for 26 is 22M with 10.7M in dead cap for 26.
He has cap hits for void years of 2.9M in 27 and 1.5M in 28
A restructure is not going to reduce the cap by 28M even if he writes the Dolphins a check for what he has already received in bonuses.
I think, if he retires, that dead money stays spread out over those years. Roughly, dead money per year (rounded), 2025 – 8 mil, 2026 – 8 mil, 2027 and 2028 – 1 mil each. I could be wrong though, but it think this is where they are coming up with the cap cleared this year.
That is, if this is how it works.
It’s 18 mil total dead cap for the entirety of all the years put together. Not 18m+10.7m+2.9m+1.5m.
Mike, I agree just draft a good player who can make an immediate impact at 13. Obviously we want good players in other rounds too, but can’t miss on our first pick.
Coach McD spoke at the Combine today…
A few takeaways…
— Scheme-specific is what we’ll be looking/drafting for… always the best idea.
— ‘Jevon Holland has earned the right to test FA’… we’ve heard that before, regarding Christian Wilkins. Just in case anybody thought there was even a slim chance he’d remain with us… NOPE! He’s gone, folks!
— Seems to me we’re very likely to address the RB position aggressively, despite already having Achane and Wright. Coach McD got really detailed and spent more time on that question than any other question.
— Definitely focused on upside, coupled with talent.
— Those seem like Adderall sniffles to me, coming from Coach McD… just sayin’…

Per nextgen stats, Membou is their highest graded OL. Their top 11:
RB Ashton Jeanty
Edge Abdul Carter
CB/WR Travis Hunter
TE Tyler Warren
DT Walter Nolen
TE Colston Loveland
CB Will Johnson
DT Mason Graham
WR Luther Burden
Edge Mykel Williams
OT Armand Membou
————–
I’m surprised Jalon Walker, LB, Georgia, didn’t make this list. At any rate, there’s Walter Nolen again. He’s already moving up Draft boards, and the Combine is about to start.
I think IF we want Walter Nolen, we’re going to have to take him @ R1P13. Heck, he might even go before R1P13 at the current rate.
Jaylon Walker was #12 right after Membou. They have 13 Edge (if you count Walker there) in their top 55.
Aaahh!
How about Jihaad Campbell? Did he make the top-20?
I think he was around 40ish if I remember correctly. They didn’t have any of the ILB ranked high but started popping up frequently after 40.
Again, not indicative of where they will actually get drafted.
There are some RB’s in the top 100 who we haven’t even talked about but will get drafted mid to late day 3. The Bucky Brooks of the draft. RB Brayshul Tuten is #71 but projected to go 6th round.
These rankings are based on estimated athleticism from college. The rankings will change based on combine and pro day performances.
M13,
The “scheme specific” thing is always a little bit of a concern when I hear it. To me, give me a guy who is relatively intelligent and has NFL level athleticism, and I’ll coach him into any player I want given the size requirements are there.
I get that you don’t wanna 178 pound fullback, for example. But, if I’m filling my roster with scheme specific guys, what happens when my scheme isn’t work anymore and I need to adjust? I’d rather have guys who are multi-scheme type guys.
^
RB Montrell Johnson would be a decent UDFA signee if he doesn’t go in the 7th. He’s got good size and speed at 5’11, 214 pounds. He’s not know as a pass catcher but did have 30 rec in 2023.
Jaydon Blue is another but he’s like 6′, 200. Good receiving back with speed.
I don’t think he is the fastest as the title says, but Blue thinks he might be able to break a 4.0 forty at the combine.

Randy, we’re going to be drafting players who fit into our system. We’re not trying to fit square pegs into round holes… as we had so many times over the last 20 years.
I absolutely agree with you on size-requirements… and that’s my wish for our soon-to-be new Guards (I want some MAULERS!), but they must be able to be mobile when asked, being we run a ZBS/OBS.
That’s not ME saying as much… that’s pretty much what Coach McD has ordered, as being a former ‘running-game expert’ and student of the WCO/ZBS/OBS under the Shanahan’s, Mike and Kyle both.
I think Chris Grier and Mike McDaniel have “Earned the right to test free agency”
😛
😆
Well done! LOL
LOL
BWAAAAAHAAAAAHAAAAAHAAAA!!
THIS! LOL
The most drastically, under-rated aspect of player eval in the NFL Draft are the personal interviews of players. Coach McD touched on it briefly today, when speaking of Chop Robinson’s Combine interview last year… Chop knocked it out of the park.
And these interviews are something most of us will never know about, unless there is a leak of sorts.
Is he hungry? Is he a true competitor? Is he football sharp? Does/will he stay in shape with his work ethic? Is he self-disciplined, or does he always need somebody lighting a fire under his ass?
M13,
Gase was a running game “guru” too. How’d that work? Lol
If we run an outside zone scheme, why would we want maulers at guard? Maulers are usually slower, and that’s not what you want in a zone blocking scheme. I’m a bit confused as to what you’re suggesting we do. Do you think MM is going to start running less outside zone? Are you’re saying you want 320 pound maulers who can move too? Great! Me too! Lol
People are getting a little bit carried away with the recency bias with Philly’s OL.
Brother, I’m talking about 320+ pound cats who can actually MOVE laterally. Once upon a time, we had such a cat… his name was Robert Hunt. But like Christian Wilkins, ‘he earned the right to test FA’.
Am I a bad fan if I can’t listen to MM talk for more than about 2 minutes? I just can’t do it.
LOL, you are NOT alone!!! He grates on my nerves as I listen to him!
He’s every bit as bad as Barack Obama off teleprompter!
Well at least Obama could read a teleprompter. The current douche can’t even do that.

From Jevon Holland…
Let’s go one by one.
Detailed & Experience Coaching:
Mike McDaniel is a first-time head coach, and Anthony Weaver is a first-time defensive coordinator.
Honest Culture:
I can only speculate here, and this would be for the more in-depth reporters, but you don’t come up with an answer like this unless you’ve dealt with dishonesty in the NFL, and the Dolphins are the only team he’s been on.
Men-Leading Head Coach:
McDaniel is not the typical “leader of men” and is more of a player-friendly x’s and o’s guy. Direct shot.
A Team That Wants to Win:
The Dolphins being in Miami always has its connotations amongst players having too much fun on their off time, but this is something that former DC Vic Fangio pointed out about the defense before he left for Philadelphia. Another direct shot.
Leaders That Want to Lead and Set Examples by Actions, Not Their Word:
No analysis is needed. It’s right there in his own words. Dagger.
Maybe, the players are reading the blog….lol
I don’t know if this is accurate with cap space savings, but…..
Classy Terron Armstead move just handed Dolphins $14 million in cap space
This doesn’t happen often in the NFL.
ByBrian Miller|14 hours ago
The Miami Dolphins need leaders, and players should look no further than Terron Armstead, who is about to give the team a dream scenario.
Earlier on Monday, head coach Mike McDaniel told the media he was unsure about Armstead’s future with the Dolphins. The Pro Bowl tackle, however, is giving the team more reason to convince him to stay.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Armstead “plans to take his contract down to minimum.” In other words, he is reducing his $28.6 million salary to the veteran minimum of $1.21 million.
It has huge salary-cap ramifications. The Dolphins are waiting for Armstead to decide his future, and this selfless decision allows him to take his time while not restricting the team’s ability to make moves in free agency.
Terron Armstead’s decision will save the Dolphins significant cap space this offseason
Kyle Crabbs of Touchdown Miami provided some great insight into the cap savings this move generates.”This decision from Armstead would save Miami $13.79M in cap space at the start of the league year, $15M starting on June 2nd, and $11.414M in 2026 cap space,” writes Crabbs.
Crabbs notes that the Dolphins would save a further $11.4 million in 2026.
Making this move will save the Dolphins more money than they could have imagined.
If the Dolphins were smart, they would hope Armstead will decide to return and then restructure the deal to include playing time incentives to bump his pay as the season moves along. Miami drafted Armstead’s eventual replacement in 2024, Patrick Paul.
With the extra money, the Dolphins could gain an extra $14 million to use when free agency begins. It will also give Armstead time to make a better decision on what he wants to do with his career while affording the Dolphins time and money to make decisions that will improve the roster, something Armstead has said needs to be done.
Is he hungry? Is he a true competitor? Is he football sharp? Does/will he stay in shape with his work ethic? Is he self-disciplined, or does he always need somebody lighting a fire under his ass?
—————–
And, has he been coached up on what to says in interviews?
I looked it up yesterday but had to cook dinner for the wife and I then settle in for the new season of Reacher.
When a player retires, all their dead money accelerates into the teams salary cap for the current year just like a Pre 6/1 Release.
Kyle Crabbs is 100% on his breakdown (thanks Krishna).
Armstead has 18,553,500 in dead money through 2028. Knowing this would destroy the Dolphins cap, he restructured his base to the league minimum 1,255,000 + 7,816,750 of his 18,553,500 in dead money to clear 13.79mil in cap now leaving a 2025 cap hit of 9,071,750.
Armstead is going to retire, but it will be Post 6/1. That will cancel out his 1,255,000 league minimum salary and add it to our cap savings bringing the total to 15,045,000.
Once he retires Post 6/1, that dead money accelerates but is split (just like a Post 6/1 Release) over 2025 and 2026 with the 2025 cap hit being the 7.8mil and the remaining dead money hitting in 2026 at 10.7mil. As Crabbs said, that will still clear 11.4 mil in 2026 cap.
This just adds to the legend of Terron Armstead. Tom Brady didn’t do it for the Bucs and cost them a 35mil dead cap hit the year he retired.
Lol…you had my head spinning. Thank you!
Clearing that 11.4 mil in 2026 cap also helps us this year. It pushes our 2026 cap to about 40 mil in the black. That gives the team the ability to restructure and move money to 2026 and clear more cap for this year.
This will also allow us to sign decent vet OG(s) like Banks or Daniels on multi year deals pushing more money later and keeping their 2025 cap hit low.
Before you get upset about using up the 40 mil in 2026 cap space (because I get really upset myself), Tyreek Hill WILL NOT be a Dolphin in 2026. A Pre 6/1 release in 2026 on Hill is going to clear 36.3 mil in cap space.
My guess (and fear) is Grier is looking at the 2026 books like he has 76 mil in the bank already and is not afraid to spend it now.
We can’t leave Chubb out of that future equation either. They can designate Chubb a Post 6/1 release and clear 19.5 mil in cap on 6/2 and clear 11.1 mill in 2026 cap.
Theoretically, we are looking at over 87 mil in 2026 cap space. Grier better not spend it all now or I will be pissed. lol
The post 6/1 release of Chubb and post 6/1 retirement of Armstead will give us an extra 20.7 mill in cap this year on 6/2.
Before designating Chubb a Post 6/1 release, I would be talking to his camp right now about taking a base salary pay cut. This would keep Chubb on the roster with Phillips/Chop and clear some needed cap space now prior to the start of free agency.
Why would Chubb do this? His base salary is 19.4 mil. He hits free agency on a release, another team is not going to pay him that much coming off his second major knee injury/surgery.
Ask him to take a 6-7 mil or even 8 mil pay cut in base salary. We keep a good player and clear some cap we need going into the start of FA.
Tell him to take it or be a FA trying to find a job elsewhere on a 1 year deal at 10 mill or less and we will get our 19.5 mil on 6/2.
Chubb has a really good season in 2025, we could then pre 6/1 trade him in 2026 for a decent pick and still clear cap space.
Was thinking, we post 6/1 release Chubb, who could the Dolphins have waiting to sign on 6/2 (maybe a deal already in place) and to a better contract than last year? Someone who doesn’t need OTA’s or Mini Camps.
Calias Campbell
New league year and free agent signings start 2 weeks from today. Negotiation period starts in 12 days.
Dolphins have a lot more to do in clearing some cap.

Is it the working conditions that make them soft? I dunno
As I stated earlier, Tyreek Hill’s cap hit in 2026 is 51.9 million. No way he is a Dolphins next year. We have to find a replacement for Hill and it’s more than likely not going to be through FA. We need to try through the draft but it doesn’t need to be early. We need a WR who has been in the system a year before Hill leaves.
There are some nice WR’s in the middle of the draft but also some explosive ones late day 3.
One I would take in the 7th is Jaylin Lane from VT. He’s not small of build either at 5’11, 196. They are talking about him possibly running a sub 4.3 this week at the combine. He does need to get better at route running and getting off the line. That is why he is projected so low but he would have immediate ST’s value and those knocks are teachable.
Arian Smith is another from UGA. He needs a lot of work in route running as well. He’s the type who may always be a one trick pony and has also had issues with drops (“Struggles with drops and concentration issues, posting a 27.3% drop rate in 2022”), his drop rate has improved though. He’s 5’11, 175 and projects to be the fastest player at the combine and may even challenge Xavier Worthy’s 4.21 record.
After watching the video, maybe half his drop were due to Carson Beck’s shitty accuracy. I dunno.
Last one I will post is the shrimp Jimmy Horn Jr at 5’8, 171. Horn could be the second fastest WR at the combine also running sub 4.3. Horn is clearly the better route runner of these three WR’s.
I think Jonah Savaiinaea could be the next Robert Hunt on our OL. He’s big and powerful and just reminds me a lot of Hunt.
Now imagine a world where we had both? LOL
Forget to post the video.
Jihaad Campbell is likely going to be a really good player. He reminds me of the kind of LB the Steelers and Ravens end up with.
I agree. We don’t have enough 2nd round picks to get all the guys I want. lol Jihaad could go late 1st though.
Yeah to the Steelers or Ravens. 😂
Yeah, we get the Channing Tindalls instead, they get the Ray Lewis, TJ. Watt and Jihaad Campbells
I was thinking pretty deeply last night about how badly Chris Grier has fucked up this team.
How did you sleep?
😂 not well
Our future cap is OK, just depends on how much of it he blows this year.
Yes, the salary cap situations can always be remedied. My thoughts were mainly in the mismanagement and careless use of draft Capital we had so many draft picks and really don’t have too many of our own players left to show for it. The one that really sticks out to me is the Waddle pick. We could have stayed where we were and had two first rounders instead of trading up for waddle and giving Philly to first rounders when they selected Devonte Smith, whose numbers are near nearly identical to waddles
Agree 100000000%. BBM still fuming on that.
Michigan defensive tackle Kenneth Grant played at 345 pounds for the Wolverines this year but said Wednesday he’s down to 332 here at the Combine. He said he feels more agile, faster and stronger at 332. His goal is to run the 40-yard dash in 4.8 or 4.9 seconds and produce more than 30 reps on the bench press.
————–
Even 4.9 is good for a big man like that. I like him a lot, especially if he came in and played at 330ish.
Ghost move: This past season, Boston College edge rusher Donovan Ezeiruaku (6-2, 247) was named the ACC Defensive Player of the Year after he led the conference in tackles for loss (21) and sacks (16.5). He was asked Wednesday about his ghost move, which has been made famous by Von Miller.
“The Ghost, it’s a move not everyone can do,” he said. “I’m blessed enough to have that ability, the hip mobility and the bend to do that. It’s just a changeup. I wouldn’t say it’s my go-to move but when you’re going against a taller, bigger tackle, it’s a move that can work in our favor.”
————–
He’s projected to be early 2nd to mid 3rd. This is turning out to be a big draft for Edge. Part of that is due to other sought after position groups sucking at the top, mainly QB and WR.
Mr. do-it-all: Alabama linebacker Jihaad Campbell is one of the most versatile players in this draft class. He had 117 tackles, 12 tackles for loss and 5.0 sacks for Alabama last season. He said Wednesday teams have talked to him about his versatility and potential ability to play the WILL, MIKE or SAM at the NFL level. He can’t wait to show teams his ability to cover in space and down the field when drills begin for the linebackers Thursday in Indianapolis.
IMO, there is no way he lasts until 48
I agree
Tyler Warren is the latest top prospect in the 2025 NFL draft who has opted out of participating in on-field drills at the scouting combine.
Per Fox Sports’ Jordan Schultz, the Penn State Star won’t work out in Indianapolis this week but he participate in interviews with teams.
Michigan DL Mason Graham: “I feel like one of the most dominant players in this class.” Notes that he can impact the game on every snap, run or pass. #NFLDraft
Agree 100%
——–
ESPN’s Adam Schefter appeared on Wednesday’s episode of The Pat McAfee Show and discussed the notion there is plenty of quality talent in this year’s class but perhaps not many elite options.
“The player you get at No. 10 in this draft is similar to the player that you get at 35,” he said.
BBM,
Grant needed to get in shape. It’s good to see he can do it. The question will be if he can sustain it through a career or if he’s just motivated to do it for the combine. He’s probably the biggest physical freak in this draft IF he can be a true pro and stay in shape.
That is my only concern with him. I still think if he put it back on he would be solid at NT.
He seems to have the mindset, Deone Walker not so much.
BBM traded down 3 times in the 1st and got 5 extra picks. Love it! LOL

Mike, every comment I make about prospects or football in general, you somehow associate it with a negative about the Dolphins. It’s a new year and not much has happened yet. Are you going to torture yourself throughout the process? You should start toking again, there’s some good chit out there, man? 😜

I’ve got to admit… Jihaad Campbell is a darkhorse candidate for me to select @ R1P13. He’s another guy who is going to rise post-Combine, and he could become elite.
However, I think we’ve got bigger fish to fry @ R1P13… and our LB room isn’t too shabby if we re-sign Tyrell Dodson, IMO.
If we end up selecting him @ R1P13, I’ll be happy with it, though!

I absolutely LOVE this idea!
So let’s say we opt to do this… our EDGES would be Chop, Phillips, Chubb, and Mo Kamara… praying Phillips and Chubb return to form with modern tech and medicine. That’s a VERY formidable EDGE group, likely the best in the NFL for 2025.
We’re not so far off at the ILB/MLB position (I really want to re-sign Dodson), so that puts us at the D-Line as a potential R1P13 target, perhaps even in a trade-down.
Select your favorite DT there and we’re WINNING already.
