Tyreek Hill and other Dolphins points

What do you know??? Tyreek Hill made the news cycle again, and as per usghe, it’s not for the right reasons. I’m not even going to touch the specifics of the situation he’s in because I have zero f*cks to give about his personal life. What I will say is that he’s often a distraction, and this team needs to be focused on winning this season. I feel like we can do it with or without him, and if we can get an offer for a decent pick in this coming draft, I wouldn’t hesitate to jump on that. Hopefully the league doesn’t get involved in his indiscretion here and punish him with a suspension. It doesn’t seem like it’s worthy of such punishment, but the NFL has much disdain for their players and their league being shed in a poor light. I’d take a 2nd or 3rd pick and just be done with him, Next year we’d be done with his salary cap hits and for this season, maybe it would help the team stay on the straight and narrow and just think about the task at hand, WINNING! We could definitely use more draft capital for this particular draft where it’s not a top heavy draft, but filled with a lot of maybes past maybe a couple of handfuls of players, so having an extra pick gives us more flexibility when it seems like we still have holes to fill.

We’ve debated here for quite some time as to how the team should approach the draft. Those of you who actually read my articles, if there are any, know how I feel. O-line is first and foremost for me. We have to give our offense, and mostly Tua the best opportunity to be an elite offense. We saw how poor it was when we Tua had to throw the ball within a very short 2 second span, and we (our receivers) weren’t getting enough separation. We also how it was practically impossible for our RB’s to run inside of the tackles, everything was rerouted to the outside, but we all know that makes short yardage situations situations nearly impossible under those circumstances. If you can’t get inside running lanes, you don’t convert short yardage situations, and that’s precisely how it went for us all season long. Our starting C Aaron Brewer is great on the move blocking downfield, but short yardage plays require your center to engage and turn defenders or just blow them back with a strong push. He’s not that guy, and nobody who played OG on either side was capable of that as well. That led to constant failure on 3rd or 4th and short. This MUST BE FIXED!

I’m well aware we need CB help too, but not re-signing DT Christian Wilkins has still left a gaping hole on the other side of the nose tackle opposite Zach Sieler. This is a deep draft for that position, but it could be really risky to wait until the 3rd RD or later. There are a few players that might be able to help us if they’re still there, but again, if you have players you want, you may want to pull the trigger in RD 2 and not risk them being gone in RD 3. Then we must turn our eye on CB’s. It’s a shame we’re looking for a starter at DT, because right now I’m not sure we have an outside CB on our roster that can start. Again, I speak from the premise of the belief that our offense has to be near elite for this team to win. I feel like if our offense resembles last year’s offense, where we couldn’t throw downfield, nearly every pass was a 5 yard shot here or there, and a 10 yard pass was a deep one, we’re cooked. We have to be much more like the high flying offense of ’23, when Raheem Mostert scored 18 rushing TD’s. If we have a consistent run game, and we’re getting push up the middle too, this will make defense much more honest, and those safeties that have been playing 10 yards back or more will now have to creep up and help in run support which in turn should help us take some deep shots and get receivers open deep. McDaniel must find a way to counter this issue, but the offensive line humming is an essential need to allow this to occur.

I know I have been a malcontent and have been very negative towards our team and organization. I feel it’s totally warranted though. A great draft might change my mind somewhat, and I hope they can come through with one. We could potentially have an exciting defense with Chop Robinson, Jaelan Phillips, Bradley Chubb and our two ILB’s Jordyn Brooks and Tyrel Dodson. My eyes just keep going back to that huge hole at LDE/DT though, and we have to find a legit starter there. I can see picking up a discarded veteran after the draft and then forming a rotation with the drafted rookie and the vet, but we still have to get a quality player regardless. Yes, I know M is gnashing his teeth about a CB, and he’s not wrong. We do have to find one who can give us quality reps, and I feel like that may end up being a similar situation as LDE/DT, where we draft a CB and he rotates with a vet and some of the guys we already have on the roster. This is where we have put ourselves, but it could work. We most definitely need a lot of luck that a bunch of the aforementioned players have to stay healthy, something that never seems to happen. Maybe we’re due for some luck, it can’t always go the other way, right?

I think a case can be made for DT as our biggest need. That said, I’m not forcing that pick at 13

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Absolutely, you can group O-line, DT/DE and CB in one basket. As you know, this offense is going to suffer if that O-line isn’t playing well, and this team was designed for the offense to be the unit that carries the day

      • Brian in NY's avatar Brian in NY says:

Agreed. I really wanted Barton last year. Of course I love Chop, but I think we could have gotten an edge easier this year than a G.

M – As I’ve explained before, it’s not about the player, it’s about the team. We can make do with an average or even below CB this season, but this team can never be what we need to be on offense if we have an average or below average O-line. I think that’s really the crux of the issue…

    ————-

I certainly don’t disagree, as you’ll recall me stating to ya that IMO, the safest bet is to draft Kelvin Banks if he’s still on the board (or if one of the other OT/OGs falls to us)… and I still feel the same today.

Why do I believe it’s the safest bet?

    1) We’re one mere player (OG) away from completing our O-Line, and thus completing our Offense to make it (potentially) as prolific as ’22 and ’23. No more 2 deep Safeties keeping ‘Reek and ‘Da Penguin in check all day. When Achane is ripping 10+ YPC at a clip (due to our new O-Line), those Safeties will then have to respect our running game… thus allowing our passing game to flourish once again. I believe you and eye see I to I on this (a little shared VISION humor, LOL).

    2) Somebody (probably more than one player) on our O-Line is inevitably going to be bitten by the injury bug. It happens every friggin’ year to us. Having one of these top O-Line prospects gives us more positional flexibility so that we can move people around to fill for the injured player.

    3) These top O-Line prospects are exactly what we need to fit our outside ZBS. They are just what the doctor ordered for us.

    4) Pickings get VERY slimmer on days 2 and 3 of the Draft for us to get a system-fit, position-flexible prospect on the O-Line. We’d probably have to move up or down (or both) to get a specific prospect at the right time and the right value… and they obviously are available on days 2 and 3 for a reason, whether it be lack of experience, small school, injury history, or some kind of physical wart.

Now ALL of this gets tricky/complicated if CB Will Johnson (or ANY prospect we have valued as a top-10 pick) is available when we select. Will Johnson in particular is someone we might not be able to pass up on, due to Jalen Ramsey and his $$$. I foresee us moving on from Ramsey and his $$$ sooner or later, and we’d better have somebody to fill his shoes (not his $$$!). A premier shutdown CB on a rookie deal who is already coached-up? WINNING!

Mike E, another good write! As of right now, I still don’t know what to do or how to predict our Draft… it’s one of those years this year, unlike most others. Can you believe we’re less than 2 weeks away and I STILL haven’t put out my official mock draft? I’m used to putting out an official mock draft in late February most years! That’s just how different and strange this year is for us… with so much riding on the success of this year’s Draft, so many questions, and lots of holes to fill.

Every year, I ENVY the job of the Dolphins GM (whoever it is, dating back to forever)! This year? I do NOT envy the job of the Dolphins GM. Chris Grier is fighting for his job this year and one mere mistake puts us in reset mode next year.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Thanks M – I wish one of our guys here could make the picks, I really do. I would feel more comfortable with a bunch of you guys than Grier and Co. Hopefully they make us happy this year and ace it!

  5. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

    Kohou finally signed his tender.

  6. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

I’m not taking a CB at #13. Only player I take there is one of the 3 top OL. Even if Will Johnson falls to us and none of those 3 are there, I am trading down for extra draft capital. A CB needy team will trade up for him.

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

I thought about that and I get it. I feel the same way if Tyler Warren is still available @ R1P13: a TE-needy team will likely trade up for him… especially before the Colts select @ R1P14.

There are options for us to trade down if the cards fall right.

  7. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

AI predicts Dolphins are more likely to trade up than trade down, but most likely not at all. OL would be the reason for trading up.

The model also listed Miami’s top Round 1 targets, and they’re many of the usual targets. The list includes OT Will Campbell, RB Ashton Jeanty, CB Will Johnson, OT Armand Membou, S Malaki Starks, S Nick Emmanwori, CB Jahdae Barron and OT Kelvin Banks Jr.

The model also predicts what position the Dolphins will select based on DraftKings’ betting odds. Those odds have the offensive line first at 36 percent, followed by the defensive line at 21 percent, safety at 15 percent, and cornerback at 14 percent.

  8. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Mike, we as fans really need to stop thinking we’re professional scouts and talent evaluators. We’ve never even met these prospects. These draft simulators should be just for fun, not taken seriously.

If went to the produce market and the tomatoes didn’t look so good, would you still buy them because you were really looking forward to them?

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

LOL, never happen. Especially if they continue to draft shitty. Of course we don’t have as much info as they do but that just makes it worse when the peeps here hit on more players than Grier and Co do. A lot of the people here watch games and see these guys and do a lot of research. All that matters too. I think you’re making it more complicated then it is.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I don’t think we’ve drafted shitty, injuries have played a major role in what we tried to do. Many of the players we drafted got overpaid in the free agent market by other teams. Have any of those teams won anything?

  9. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

    @RapSheet

The #Saints suddenly have a major QB question: Starter Derek Carr is now dealing with a shoulder injury that threatens his availability for this season, sources say. Carr is weighing options, including the possibility of surgery.

    —————

Saints select @ R1P9. Maybe they go QB?

  10. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Tim, so we drafted a QB with a lengthy injury history. We drafted a pass rushing OLB with a lengthy injury history, and both of those players injuries have derailed our success not just one season but multiple seasons. That’s shitty drafting. How did the extra information that they’re privy to help them? It didn’t! Then they fucking double down on that mistake and give Tua a huge contract. Sorry Tim, they are shitty at their job and I have enough information from their track record to say that with certainty. They also paid another pass rushing OLB with an injury history a lot of money and his injury derailed our success. Not sure why you feel the need to defend them, they don’t deserve it!

  11. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Look at our roster. What is it comprised of? How many draft picks are still on the roster from the last 5 years? What percentage? Look it up and let me know, and if you have time, compare it to the Ravens, Steelers, Eagles, Rams, Lions and probably a bunch more and I’m sure we don’t stack up well

  12. Randy's avatar Randy says:

Evaluating talent or skill at football isn’t difficult. It’s the personal info fans don’t get that makes the difference. You can see everything you need to know about a guy’s physical ability to do a certain athletic task. It’s not hard. Evaluating a whole person to whom I’m considering paying millions is something different and fans don’t get all that extra info. Actually, the people who do get all that extra info and time with the person should be able to be way more successful than a regular fan…but they’re really not

  13. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

    Tim,

I DO get what you’re saying, truly. It’s the one facet that we the fans don’t get to see: the interviews. And yes, it’s a VERY important part of the drafting process. We fans don’t get to see the ‘character’ aspect of the prospect unless one is already established, one way or the other.

  14. Randy's avatar Randy says:

With how this team sits now I feel pretty good about this draft because I don’t think there’s any way they can screw it up. Right?

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I thought that in 2012 when we had two 1st RD picks and two 2nd RD picks. Then Ireland, armed with all the information in the world traded most of those picks to move up to #3 to get OLB Dion Jordan. Then in 2013, again armed with all the information in the world, Ireland chose OT Jonathan Martin at pick #42 RD 2. I guess just having the info isn’t as important as being able to properly interpret and process it, right?

This shit is ruining college football.

Tennessee is moving on from quarterback Nico Iamaleava, according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel. The decision comes after the Vols top signal-caller did not attend practice on Friday amid NIL contract discussions with the school.

According to Thamel, Tennessee coach Josh Heupel informed the team at meetings Saturday morning before the Orange and White Spring game. Sources said Iamaleava missing practice Friday proved to be the tipping point for Heupel and his staff. The former five-star was reportedly seeking an $8 million NIL deal.

Ohio State, Oregon, and Colorado are top landing spots for Iamaleava, according to a report from Knoxville reporter Richard G. West. The QB has reportedly been in contact with the three schools who’ve agreed to construct a deal upon him leaving Tennessee.

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

I will take that, though I am partial to CB Jacob Parrish at that spot over Dotson. Parrish is a better man cover CB. Though, if we are going to run a lot of zone, Dotson may be the guy. IMO, it would come down to a speed thing. If we are going to run more man coverage, I would want Parrish as he can about run step for step with anyone. If we run more zone/quarters, then Dotson would be the guy. He is really instinctive there and knows how to bait a QB.

  28. Randy's avatar Randy says:

I think NIL is Woke BS.

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

I’m happy to hear ya say that, because it IS!

It’s time for the NFL to have a minor league system like the MLB has. College is for education and higher learning… not for sports.

That’s going to be quite the fight because there’s TOO much money being made by colleges via the current system as it pertains to football.

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

And BEING colleges made so much $$$ over the current system with football, college players felt they were being taken advantage of (they were, in part).

The system must change to prevent the corruption to begin with. And NIL is now becoming a HUGE problem as a result of the root problem.

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Part of the reason is players have to be 3 years out of HS to enter the draft.

Tell me Jeremiah Smith isn’t ready for the NFL now and I will tell you you’re wrong.

Kids are forced to play college football to get a chance/exposure.

  29. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Why are all these draft schmucks saying the Dolphins top need now is a replacement for Terron Armstead. They act like Patrick Paul doesn’t even exist. SMH

Though, just in case, I have been going after LT Anthony Belton in the 4th round in my mocks. Dude is solid but nothing special. Loves to pancake dudes. He recorded 9 pancakes in one of his games last year.

  30. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Finally, someone with a decent trade proposal.

They suggest Miami trading a 4th round pick for CB Amik Robertson who is in the last year of his contract. He played both slot and boundary for Detroit, 13 games at slot and 4 starting at boundary. He played boundary vs the Vikings and held Justin Jefferson to 48 yards rec and 0 TD’s. He was the 6th best CB in the NFL vs the run last year, per PFF.

He would cost 4.7m in cap.

Reasoning is Miami has bigger needs than to draft a CB early and Dolphins would be better off starting a vet like Robertson opposite Ramsey than a 4th round rookie.

Another one is PFN’s latest mock. I like the OL they got to fix the OL but didn’t address DT until pick 150 with Elijah Roberts and that was the only DT they took in the 7 rounds.

They took OT Kelvin Banks at 13 to replace Armstead, OG Donovan Jackson at #48 to play LG and OG Jackson Slater at #135.

I thought that was some great OL picks but then they ruined it by taking RB DJ Giddens at #98 with a pressing need at DT. WTF

Not just disappointed about taking a RB at 98 but Giddens is meh and overrated IMO. He’s a terrible receiver (many drops) and maybe average or just below in blocking.

The rest of their draft was decent also. If they had taken another DT at #98, it would have been a nice draft.

Guess they had to make a “Grier WTF pick” to make it more realistic. lol

    Wow, sad.

Former Louisiana and LSU wide receiver Kyren Lacy passed away Saturday night. Lacy was just 24, and according to WBRZ 2, he died by suicide.

He was under investigation for a 78yo man’s death where Lacy was driving recklessly and caused the old man to swerve to miss him and hit another vehicle that killed him.

      • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Actually, now that I think about it, if they have intentions of drafting 2 OL that high, and then another, there would have been zero reason to re-sign Liam Eichenberg. Don’t you agree?

      • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

TBH, with the signings of James Daniels and Borom, resigning Eich, Hayes, Carmon and Kion Smith. I will be surprised if they draft more than 2 OL. Judging by their visits, I am thinking one early and one late.

  50. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I could see us drafting 2 DL, 2 OL, 2 DB and then?

  51. Randy's avatar Randy says:

I think you could justify that every spot on this offensive line could either re-upgraded or has some question about it in one way or another. Not only that but we need serious depth. When was the last time this team went through a season without significant injuries on the line? If or when it happens again this year, the chances of winning games goes down precipitously.

I’m not suggesting we go nuts with OL but the need is there. I’d like at least a couple out of our top 4 picks.

BBM is confused. Easter is 420 friendly. That’s what he was thinking. 🙂

Kyren Lacy died on Saturday in Houston after committing suicide following a police chase, according to a report.

A report from the Harrison County’s Sheriff’s Department was released on Sunday night. The report stated that a police pursuit ended when Lacy’s car crashed. When the officers approached the car, they found that Lacy had died in an apparent suicide. The former LSU wide receiver is believed to have killed himself using a handgun that was recovered at the scene.

According to TMZ, the police pursuit was sparked following a call about a weapons disturbance around 11:15 p.m. on Saturday night. A woman who said she was a family member of Lacy called police after she says she got into a verbal argument with Kyren, who allegedly fired a weapon into the ground before leaving the scene. Police later spotted Lacy’s car, but he sped off, leading to a chase that ultimately ended with Lacy crashing and shooting himself.

weird article, he’s presuming we’re going to trade up

      • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

I have seen several mocks having Dart go in the top 10. Some are talking Saints now with Derek Carr needing surgery.

I have also saw rumors of teams wanting to trade out of the top 5 then take a QB.

        It’s all weird. lol

  67. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

David Furones latest mock has Dolphins taking Tyler Warren at 13 then trading back into the 1st round with the Commanders and taking Grey Zabel at 29.

Says Dolphins could trade #48 one of their early day 3 picks and a 2026 day 3 pick.

Looking at the #’s it would take at least 2 4th’s, more likely #116 and a 2026 3rd.

I like the players but after picking at 29 we wouldn’t pick again until 98 then 135. I would like it if there weren’t so many holes to fill and not much of a FA market let to fill them.

Brian, it bet you would jump on this one though. lol

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Interesting that Furones went this way when he even listed the Dolphins needs as OG, DT and CB.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

assuming Zabel is there at 29, I guess we could always go DT at 29

I’m ok with a generational talent like Warren at the expense of S and CB

we have enough currently at DB to get by for a year

I really wouldn’t hate getting Warren and Zabel. More I think about this the more I like it

do we want 2 studs or 4 pretty good starters?

  68. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Doing all these mocks, I many times take Kenneth Grant after trading way down. In reality, it think there is no way he lasts that long. I don’t see him lasting past Chargers and his former college coach Harbaugh at #22.

If grant is already gone there, I expect Chargers to take Loveland there. I just wouldn’t expect Grant to be there if Dolphins traded down more than 5 spots.

  69. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

The only trade scenario involving Tyreek that I could see happening is with the Packers.

Reason being. The packers desperately need a dynamic #1 WR. They also have WR Christian Watson coming back from an ACL injury. They are thin at WR and this draft is very limited on elite WR’s who could make an impact as a rookie.

Rumor has it that Packers want to draft a CB in the 1st so they can move on from Jaire Alexander. Same rumor says Packers are in love with CB Maxwell Hairston.

Trade would involve Dolphins getting Packers pick #54 or Pick #87 and a player such as Safety Kitan Oladipo, a position the Packers are deep at. Another option would have the Dolphins trading Tyreek straight up for CB Jaire Alexander but Dolphins would need to clear more cap space as a 16.4m cap hit would come along with Alexander.

I would go for options 1 or 2.

Another 7th round/UDFA prospect visiting Dolphins today on a local visit.

UCF cornerback B.J. Adams is set to visit with the Miami Dolphins on Monday, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Adams spent his entire collegiate career with the Knights and finished his final season with two interceptions and one tackle for loss. At the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine, the defensive back measured in at 6’2, 182 pounds and ran a 4.53 40-yard dash with a 32.5-inch vertical.

  72. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

CB Will Johnson, after missing the combine and pro day with a hamstring injury is working out for NFL teams today.

I worry about Johnson’s injury history. He had to have a knee surgery in spring of 2023 causing him to miss the first part of that season. Then hurt his shoulder at the start of the 2024 season missing a game and a half. Then, later last year got turf toe and missed the rest of the 2024 season. Then, after being able to train again this past January, he injured his hamstring causing him to miss the combine and pro day.

  73. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

WR Kyle Williams had his visit with the Dolphins yesterday. I like this dude and as much as Savion Williams. He is a more polished route runner then Savion. I still love what Savion brings to the table.

We are having to replace Tyreek next year no matter what at boundary WR and I think Kyle has a better chance of doing that than Savion. Both are slated to go late 3rd to 4th round.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

I’d use our late 3rd on Kyle, he has that short pass playmaking ability (amongst other things), that fits Tua’s game perfectly

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I think they feel Malik Washington is that guy. NWI along with Jonnu and Achane give us lots of different options in the passing game other than Hill and Waddle.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Savion at 6’5 225 is Cordarrelle Patterson, jack of all trades

wildcat QB, RB, slot, HB, outside WR

either of these guys would work with our 3rd

Are we going to try and do a consensus mock draft here at FMU?

  75. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

One draft site said Dolphins need to take a DT with their 1st pick as they have 2 glaring needs there. They expect a run on DT’s before Dolphins pick at #48.

Round 2, they said the Dolphins don’t need to mess around with an OL pick on a project. They need to draft an OG who could come in and start day 1.

Dolphins should only deviate if somehow Membou or Campbell fall to #13. If so, they must take the best proven DT left on the board at #48 even if it is a little reach, and mention TJ Sanders or Alfred Collins.

Closed with, a developmental player should not be on the Dolphins mind until round 5. Maybe not until round 7.

    ———-

That’s kind of where I am at.

  76. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Tim, I see Washington as more of a slot WR and not someone who could replace Tyreek on the boundary next year.

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

I just ran a “Grok 3” on Walter Nolen. Here are the so-called “character concerns”… EXACTLY as I thought!

    “Conclusion

In summary, Walter Nolen’s character concerns for the 2025 NFL Draft are primarily tied to his transfer history and vague off-field rumors, with his Combine decision adding to the uncertainty. While these factors could impact his draft position, the lack of concrete evidence suggests that teams may still consider him a valuable pick, especially those willing to invest in his development. As the draft approaches, further clarity may emerge from team interviews and evaluations, but as of now, the evidence leans toward these concerns being perceptual rather than definitive.”

Ramsey sees this team for what it is, a poorly built roster. He wants out, and now we have to look like we want to trade him too, although I doubt very much they wanted to hear that he wants to be traded. This also lessens the return value because the player wants out, and once the player makes it known, you can’t keep him here, he has to go.
