Dolphins add Offensive Guard

The Dolphins had pick #48, which was sixteen picks into the 2nd RD. After 4 selections were made, Grier lost his mind and traded up to get his guy, OT/OG Jonah Savaiinaeah from Arizona. Once again, Grier showed no patience, no discipline. The Miami Dolphins roster is so far from being one player away. As it turned out, no 1 offensive lineman of any kind was taken between pick #37, the spot that Grier traded up to and our original spot of #48. He’s done this many times before as well. In last year’s draft, he used this year’s 3rd RD pick to get into the 4th RD last year to draft RB Jaylen Wright. Did we actually use Jaylen Wright last season? 68 rushing attempts and 3 receptions. Jaylen Wright has a 4 year contract, and we basically redshirted him for his rookie season. That’s just awful management.

Here’s some perspective. The Baltimore Ravens, always considered a solid organization, owned the 29th pick in RD1. They stayed put there, and took the best safety on the board, Malaki Starks, the player they wanted. In RD 2, the Ravens stayed put at their pick (#59) and took an EDGE pass rusher that was supposed to have been drafted in RD1, but their patience was rewarded having a highly rated prospect fall into their laps in Marshall DE/OLB Mike Green. Even the Eagles, who just won the Superbowl, moved up just one spot in RD 1 to take the LB they wanted, Jihaad Campbell. In RD 2, they stayed put at Pick #64 and took the safety that so many love here, S Andrew Mukuba from Texas. Restraint, discipline, patience. Grier has none of these, and I also honestly wonder if he actually has a plan.

So now, our next pick is #116. We don’t have a starting CB, we have 2 safeties that have been backups but could be serviceable as starters. That’s part of the problem, once again. We’re trying to go on a playoff run and we basically made trades, we traded all our cap space and lots of picks to replace DT Christian Wilkins with DT Kenneth Grant, and replaced OG Robert Hunt with OG Jonah Savaiinaeah. WE gave Tua the huge contract, traded for Jalen Ramsey, gave him a contract extension just a few months ago and then a week before the draft, genius GM Chris Grier tells the whole world the Dolphins and Ramsey have mutually agreed to part ways. Why????? Plan much? What was your plan when you told the world that? Maybe shop him draft day and see what you get. Now you’re desperate and you may end up cutting him and getting zero compensation. This, among many other reasons already outlined is why Grier to be sent packing. We need to find someone better at this job than him, and I don’t think it will be as hard as people think.

So now we go into day 3 armed with 6 picks, one in RD 4 (#116), three in RD 5 (#143,#150,#155) and two in RD 7 (#224,#253). Can we find our starting CB in any of those picks? Who knows? Maybe, but the chances went down considerably just by trading up and trading away your 3rd and 4th RD picks to get there. I’ll remind you that Chris Grier also traded up for OL Liam Eichenberg in the 2021 NFL Draft to select him at #42 RD 2. Once again, no patience, no discipline, and no plan. Let the board come to you, and find good players, don’t be set at any position or player, be flexible, be smart. Grier hasn’t done those things. Even when he hit on a couple of picks like DT Christian Wilkins and OG Robert Hunt, he failed to keep them going into their second contracts. Bad management, simple as that. This should be his last year, but Stephen Ross for some reason loves him. Maybe Stephen Ross is a masochist and just loves losing too.

  32. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

Trader is a hitter. Maybe we won’t miss so many tackles as we did last year. He’s a little slow.

  33. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

if these guys were perfect, they wouldn’t have fallen to the 5th. These are good players with a flaw.

  34. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

I’m of the opinion that we are looking REALLY SOLID up front on the Defensive side of the ball, and that includes our ILB/MLBs.

As such — and with the potential/likely departure of Jalen Ramsey — I’d be targeting rangy, quicker DBs… not slower, hard-hitters at the Safety position such as Dante Trader.

I do NOT like that blueprint, but that’s just my opinion.

  35. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

I think the HC and GM heard the “soft” comments and are trying to fix that. Sometimes those small fast guys play finesse and that can be interpreted as soft.

    Now

Let’s get that bruiserback from Clemson. He’ll flat run people over at RB.

  36. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

    Damn there goes Mitchell Evans

  37. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Remember at this time Weaver runs a lot more zone than man. We need guys who can tackle and that’s what we did at ILB. Attack the LOS and clean up.

  38. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

And there goes Oronde Gadsden to the Charge.

  39. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Naples, I agree on the RB. He’s not just a bruiser and has some wiggle to his game

  40. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

One of the guys on NFLN likes the Trader pick

  41. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

I am giving Weaver the benefit of the doubt on these DB’s. I trust him much more than the other two. Lol

    We currently have 16 DBs.

    ————

QUALITY, not quantity. Most of those 16 DBs are nothing more than camp fodder.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Right there is no reason these guys are on the team. We’re currently at the point in the draft where camp fodder are selected and you’re freaking out when another team drafts your man crush. 🤪

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Ahh, c’mon, Bro! I haven’t “freaked out”! It’s all good.

But yeah, I’ll be a little agitated when the ENEMY takes a man-crush! That’s just part of the game, ya know! 😉

  44. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

Phillips is 6’2 312 and did 29 reps on the bench. Not a fat guy.

  45. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I think Ross said to Grier

“I’m working on replacing you. You are not to trade away any future picks, in fact, I want that fucking 3rd RD pick that you wasted last year trading up for our 2025 3rd RD pick, so replace it by acquiring a 2026 3rd RD. Get some meat and potatoes and finish out this season the best you can. Good luck!”

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

      EXACTLY!

Ross needs to be able to entice the next GM and or HC to come here. Can’t do that with a depleted Draft cupboard in ’26. In fact, we gained a 3rd in ’26 for this very reason, IMO.

  46. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Jordan Phillips highlights are quite underwhelming

  47. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

25 in 60 and 5 picks and people were touting him as a future HoFer.

  48. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Tim – No offense, but these guys deserve to go whether they actually do or not. There’s no other logical choice, especially if this team flounders again, and we will. We will have a tough time staying ahead of the Jets who BTW outdrafted the fuck out of us so far, and had more talent anyway to start.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I don’t feel the way you do. The Mets were dead at one point last year and they were two wins away from the World Series. We’re just fans.

      • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Oh man, that comparison absolutely blows. It was clear the Mets were heading in the right direction with Steve Cohen and David Stearns. It’s not the same thing at all. Grier has been here 20 years, and he totally fucked this roster. He’s slowly clawing back to before he fucked it, but he’s not there yet. You know that’s true. What happens with Tyreek hill? Jalen Ramsey? It’s a mess.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Agree to disagree. I’m no longer that emotional about sports. I just want to enjoy the game.

  49. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

MikeE, I think Pats have done even better especially if you add what they did in FA.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Yes, but the Pats were already way ahead of us IMO. The jets were the team we would be battling for last place with.

  50. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

In some ways I kinda wish we did draft Shedeur Sanders. I would hope it would piss Tua off, and that, in and of itself would make me happy.

  51. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

I turned it back to ESPN to see if the picks get better. Lol

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Ahhh, most of the guys we took in the 5th RD won’t be around if they even make the roster. As we both know, even if they make the roster, they probably won’t play

  71. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

Mike, I agree. Ollie will have more picks this season than Write had last season. I will go so far as to bet he will have more this season than Write has THIS season straight up. JW3

    Will Howard to Steelers

  73. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

I wonder who we could have drafted with the two third round picks and the fourth round pick Grier threw away this year (including the write pick last season)

  74. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

I’m hoping for Jalin Conyers, Mello Dotson, or Jay Higgins at this point in the 7th round.

  75. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Logan Brown still on the board. Most likely because he is type 1 diabetic

  76. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

man! Ollie Gordon! I LOVE this pick.

He won Best RB of the Year in college in 2023 then his line graduated , and he had no holes. He’s 223 lbs!

    more toughness. More anti-smurfness.

  77. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

in years past there was game tape, you could see all the plays the draftee was on the field for a given game

I don’t see those videos this year

  84. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Correct, and that news is like 4 months old. Justin Tucker, no? What does that have to do with our Phins? The way Cav Kong put it, I thought one of OUR guys screwed up!

  86. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

My knee jerk reaction to this draft is that they tried to fill needs following a value chart and did an ok job of it, other than throwing away two picks to move up for the guard that all evidence says would have still been there when we picked at out original slot

  87. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Steve, I watch the video’s that show all their snaps vs a certain team but you are right that seemed very limited this year

  89. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

  90. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Ollie is a big downhill runner. Oh know we drafted a power back! Now that’s no good either 🤷🏻‍♂️

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

But we’ve got Mattison, who you and I BOTH like! What’s more, why did Grier ever allow Chris Brooks to leave?

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Focus on the present. What if someone gets hurt? You guys are acting like a 6th round pick RB just replaced someone. Come on guys!

  91. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

I’d rather Grief and the 🧁 were gone, but that didn’t happen, so here we are

since the Ramsey “Rock Bottom” news came out I like Tim can actually see a path where we can compete for a playoff spot

Our front 7 looks really good on paper, assuming injuries are healed Chubb/Phillips, secondary is still a work in progress with 2nd wave of FA, FAs already signed and guys stepping up and hoping the passrush helps them cover shorter periods of time

D is paper thin, so key injuries aside and Weaver effect we could be pretty good

On O hard to believe OL isn’t upgraded, RBs better, because of the power backs to help in short yardage and pass blocking

Hill and Smythe were awful last year, Brown is a much better blocker than either, hoping 2nd wave of FA brings a TE or maybe Rucci steps up

Better backup QB, hoping Tua stays healthy, high hopes for Ikhine in redzone and short yardage, Hill and Waddle should rebound with better line play

Again this isn’t a prediction on how we’ll play this year, it’s just a path of hope

    Dont be an Eeyore🤪

I don’t like giving up picks. The whole lottery ticket idea. If I’m giving up picks, it better be for a guy who is worth it.
