2025 Season – Game 10 – Bills @ Dolphins

There’s still plenty of this season left, and yet all I can think about is next season. For a moment, I had some positive thoughts because the Dolphins last week parted ways with former GM Chris Grier. I had hope that the only reason they were keeping HC Mike McDaniel was that Ross and Co. felt it wouldn’t make a big difference to make one of the assistant coaches as Head Coach. There are stories swirling around, so many different ones, and most on the negative side, but if an organization deserves it, it’s this Miami Dolphins Franchise. We’re all aware of the 25 year Playoff Win drought, and that will surely go to 26 years with the performance of this putrid team with it’s awful roster.

The rumors that are making their way around are just so depressing to me, I can only hope they’re not true. The first big one is that the Dolphins are considering bringing back HC Mike McDaniel next season along with QB Tua Tagovailoa to try and make one more run. The other rumor is that Interim GM Champ Kelly may get an extension for next year and beyond. All I can extrapolate from either or both of these moves is that Stephen Ross is too busy finding other ways to make money and conduct those businesses with energy not seen in piloting this Miami Dolphins Franchise. Frankly, it’s a disgrace, and just so lazy. We should be scouring the NFL, trying to find the best executive from a good NFL Organization, and interview all of them. Settling for a guy in house who was an Interim General Manager for one season is nothing but an insult to Miami Dolphins fans!

On story one, MM and Tua. I’m aware that Tua’s salary is astronomical next season (Thanks Chris!!), but you can’t plan on him being the starting QB next season. You must draft a QB next season, doesn’t have to be RD 1, but that guy should be given every chance to be the starter. Tua is a stale, unsuccessful show that just can’t be run back. Mike McDaniel, the other half of the story, let’s call them together “The Disastrous Duo” had one season with the cheat motion and both MM and Tua shrunk as the spotlight got brighter. Some delusional Dolphins fans remember 2023 so fondly as if we won the Superbowl. We had the Bills right where we wanted them. We were 11-4, after just barely escaping the Dallas Cowboys game with a 22-20 win, and the Bills were 9-6. Tua threw 1 TD, but it took FG’s of 57, 52, 54, 35 and 29 to vanquish the Boys. That to me was the first sign that Tua might not have the mettle. Then, a showdown with the Baltimore Ravens, a great opportunity to show just how good we are, and what happens? The high flying offense is grounded, Tua is picked off twice and the defense can’t make a stop and the Ravens destroy the Dolphins 56-19. The final game of the season, another chance for us to exert some dominance, a showdown @ Hard Rock Stadium against the Bills. If you’re thinking it didn’t go well, you’re right! Dolphins lost 21-14, Tua picked off twice again, 1 TD, 2 INT’s. This man doesn’t forget despite far too many others forgetting. This was the pinnacle of Tua, he was never better or healthier.

So now, 2025, Tua is clearly a shell of the 2023 player. He doesn’t look right, his arm is weaker, maybe due to his hip injuries, but we’ve seen some of his throws. Basically, he needs everything to be optimum to give his team a chance to win a game. He takes no risks, he won’t try to get a first down if the defense is there to challenge him, sometimes he just falls down rather than compete and escape a sack. This is what he is. To tell Dolphins fans that we’re not only bringing back Capri McD, but that Tua Tagovailoa is going to be the starting QB because he has a $56M cap hit is unacceptable. You made a mistake giving him that contract, don’t compound it by forcing him once again on us hopeful Dolphins fans. He brings no hope, he’s a black cloud on this team.

Now onto the other story, that Ross may give Interim GM Champ Kelly, who has been an executive with the Chicago Bears and the Las Vegas Raiders the GM job here for next season and beyond. Right there that’s a bad sign. Two failing franchises that can’t seem to be able to get out of their own way. I know the Bears are doing OK now, but Champ was there from 2015-2021, and the Bears beginning with 2015 were 6-10, 3-13, 5-11, 12-4, 8-8, 8-8, 6-11. So 48-61. Then he joined the Las Vegas Raiders in 2022. In 2022, the Raiders were 6-11, 8-9, and 4-13, so 18-33. Now of course Kelly is not responsible for all of this, but I’m just pointing out that we’re taking a guy who was part of two failing teams and lazily thrusting him into a very important position at an important time for the team. This is the first year we’re free of Chris Grier and his trade ups and draft failures. So, hey, let’s just take this guy who is a really nice guy, coaches gush over how nice Champ Kelly. Chris Grier was a swell guy too! Please don’t shove this shit down our throats! ANY OF IT!

Don’t tell me we need HC Mike McDaniel because he gives Tua the best chance to succeed. That just can’t possibly true, especially if you’ve watched every game they’ve played together this season. One excellent effort against the Falcons. NO MAS!! To reiterate, Tua has had enough chances to show what he can do, and we’ve seen the results. Yes, Tua fans will blame the defense, the O-line, the ambient temperature and basically anything they can find, but don’t we all want a QB who we DON’T have to make excuses for? Don’t we deserve to have that? The Bills have it. It seems like the Patriots might just have it too. The Jets don’t have it, but they do have two first RD picks and two 2nd RD picks in 2026, and then three 1st RD picks in 2027. That doesn’t guarantee they’ll find one, but they sure might get a lot of other good players. It’s funny, Tua is 27, I think of him like he’s 40. Except Aaron Rodgers who IS 40 has 17 TD’s and only 5 INT’s and his team is in first place.

This week we play the Bills in a game that doesn’t mean a thing to me. Right, I couldn’t care less whether we win or lose, it doesn’t matter to me. I know, the Bills are a hated division rival, but the problem is now, I hate my own team MORE than I hate the Bills. I really do. this has been building for a while, but Stephen Ross despite throwing money at the this team whenever asked, hasn’t taken the time or effort that he puts into his real estate business. Get Tom Garfinkle on it! Tell him to look everywhere for the next best NFL Executive and bring a good 5-10 candidates in for an interview! Show the fans that this is important to you, finding the next GM to lead this team for hopefully a dozen successful seasons. Don’t give us Champ Kelly because he’s here! Don’t further insult this fanbase, it’s not the right thing to do. The fans are already turning on the team, there are a million other things to do in sunny FLA rather than waste lots of money and time watching this shitty football team. I live in dreadful NJ and I’m not going to bother watching this team, if those rumors become reality. Why should I?

I think Capri McD was trying to install a positive atmosphere in Miami, much like Pete Carroll has done at nearly every stop of his career. His players love him, FAs want to come play for him, and it’s as stress-free as possible.

These are all GRAND things, so long as winning continues. However, once the going got tough and after Grier brought in too many ‘me first’ players (see ‘Reek and Ramsey), Capri McD lost control because he’s not a disciplinarian… he wants to be everybody’s buddy. Noble, yet futile.

Pete Carroll seems to be able to put the BITE down when necessary as it pertains to his players failing or off-field BS. And that’s why Carroll will be in the NFL HOF one day… makes me sick to say that, but it’s true.

    • markeyh's avatar markeyh says:

That is why I find it hard to believe that Grier got canned before McDaniel they should have either stayed throughout the season or been fierd together IMHO

      • markeyh's avatar markeyh says:

It is far too easy for the survivor to pass the buck

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

I’m honestly stunned they weren’t fired together too, Markeyh.

There are theories, though… and not of the conspiratorial kind. By a lot of indications, Steve Ross may be keeping Capri McD for one last season, being Tua is being paid so much… and nobody (barring Shanahan in SanFran) can bring out the best in Tua other than Capri McD.

      • markeyh's avatar markeyh says:

Then why not keep Grier also they both should be together either employed or fired. IMHO

I will admit that Mike McDaniel coached his best game as our HC last week.

  4. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

Did Chop travel with the team to Madrid? He is still in Concussion protocol.

    • Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

      Welp, there you go!

Linebacker Chop Robinson and right tackle Austin Jackson were both on the field when the team held its first practice in Spain, at Atletico Madrid’s stadium, on Nov. 12.

  5. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Smart move by the Stealers* for the future. That team is a young franchise QB (rookie contract) and perhaps a burner WR away from being the best team in the NFL

    —————-

A lot of people weren’t high on him as me, but the Steelers do have QB Will Howard who will be competing next year to be their QB.

I wanted us to draft him instead of Ewers. He is a good accurate QB with high potential.

The Steelers just activated him off of IR.

    INJURIES

    • RB Ollie Gordon II (ankle) was limited in Wednesday’s practice.
    • TE Julian Hill (ankle) limited
    • Aaron Brewer (foot/ankle) did not practice. Brewer was seen by local reporters in a boot on Monday.
    • RT Austin Jackson (toe) will have his 21-day practice window to return from injured reserve opened Wednesday, McDaniel said. Jackson, who began practicing as a limited participant, was placed on IR on Sept. 13.
    • LB Chop Robinson (concussion) was a full participant in practice.
    • CB Rasul Douglas (foot/ankle) DNP
    • Ashtyn Davis (quad) limited
    • Ifeatu Melifonwu (thumb/foot) limited

Aside from more $$$/revenue, prick-waving, and trying to become a pioneer… why is it so important to Emperor Goodell to make the NFL a global thing?

Teams lose home field advantage, players lose time via jet lag, it’s not cheap regarding transportation across oceans, and personally I’m getting tired of trying to ‘nation build’… that is, to export/impose our way of life to foreign countries.

I mean, even if American football (the game) becomes popular in other countries, of what benefit is it to us? It only benefits Emperor Goodell.

  8. markeyh's avatar markeyh says:

Since Grier became our total GM in 2019, this team has made the playoffs twice back-to-back for the first time in 20 years, and would have made the playoffs last year had we not suffered injuries to key players, and our slow start this year was due to the transition to younger players that seem to be now paying off.

  10. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Will Howard would be top 4 in QB’s this next draft. People also don’t realize how much of a running threat he is.

I don’t see the Steelers drafting a QB in the 1st two rounds but possibly adding one in the 3rd or 4th where they have 5 picks in that range. I see the Steelers adding a big physical WR like Chris Bell in the 1st.

    ———–

Alright, I understand what you’re sayin’. But every team will still spend up to the salary cap in order to win. Follow these thoughts to conclusion, and we’re going to see NFL pine-riders making double-digit millions of $$$ as a base salary. Yes, even Big Jonah.

To me, that’s just crazy… especially when ya have doctors saving lives and delivering babies daily who don’t see close to that kind of $$$ per year.

    No sir… I don’t like it!

Great post, Markeyh. I’ve worked in corporate America for nearly 30 years. There comes a time when the house needs to be cleaned… from top to bottom.

      • markeyh's avatar markeyh says:

unfortunately, Ross will never sell the team. He wants to hand it down to his daughters, hopefully their little wiser than their father when it comes to hiring the right personnel.

Grier Fdup the current coaching staff, by taking limited and injured over Herbert

Thats a huge negative and most defining moment of his GM career, for that he deserves D+ at best

His other issue was building a team, he was horrible at it

His only above avg thing was trades, he generally got good value with them, then turned around and waisted the picks

#1 job of a GM is to build a team, he had zero vision in how to do that, no plan, no team identity

    • markeyh's avatar markeyh says:

It’s easy, years later, to say Tua was the wrong choice, even though statistically and success-wise, their careers have been similar. Now that Herbert has a legitimate HC, he will have greater success than Tua who is stuck with a below-average HC who, to date, has had problems beating above .500 teams.

You blame our GM for the failures of poor coaching hires over his tenure, and I feel Ross decides who is our HC, and that is why this team has failed.

McDaniel is not a good HC, never was, and never will be.

  18. markeyh's avatar markeyh says:

Tua has been affected by the injuries to our O-Line, where he has been without two of his best O-linemen for some time. They are now getting close to having both back as Jackson is back at practice and guard James Daniels is inching closer to getting back too.

  19. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Even if we win the rest of the games for this season, and a playoff game, we still need to make changes, because next year will still be the same c*** again to start the season

  20. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Markey – Not being argumentative but you have consistently said that it was coaching, and that the talent is here. When you consistently draft guys with injury histories, and they get injured, you have no one else to blame but the guy who drafted those players. I think it’s really a small part part of the equation anyway. He wasted so much draft capital on trade ups and for underwhelming players. There’s a whole lot to blame Grier for, and I’m thankful he’s gone. On that note, if they keep McD next season, you can blame him all you want and you probably won’t be wrong

    • markeyh's avatar markeyh says:

I blame MM for his current record against winning teams. I don’t need to wait for next year; we have had 4 years of his poor performances against winning teams.

He has had the talent to have won some playoff games, but his inability to coach the difficult players, rather than just get rid of them, has doomed this team.

  21. Randy's avatar Randy says:

This always goes back to how the sausage is made for me. Who really made the decisions on who they drafted or went after in FA? Was it Ross saying we’re gonna get players MM wants, so Grier went after that sort of guy? Did MM get to veto picks or guys and say get that other guy? Did Grier just get to do whatever he wanted? Or, most likely, was it a mishmash of all of it?

I put all financial shit on Grier. He’s the one who made the deals. But, was he forced to try to make deals for guys he really wouldn’t have gone after if he wasn’t told to do it? It’s a nuanced business. It’s why I never feel comfortable blaming this guy or the other because I really have no idea how the sausage was made.

That said; I’m fine with Grier being gone, and I hope MM follows him quickly. MM bugs me more. This was his baby. His vision of how to build a team. That wasn’t Grier.

  22. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

If Grier’s peers think he’s good at what he does, he’ll get picked up right away and if he was a good GM, he’ll end up in that position again someday. I’d be willing to bet he gets a job but he’s never given the keys to a franchise again.

I really think Randy hit it on the head when it comes to the players acquired and the way the team was built. We don’t really know who had what kind of input. At the very least, I imagine Grier was getting the types of players MM wanted.

How much say did MM have? How many times were there disagreements over this player or that player, and who’s ideas won out in those situations? Maybe it was usually Grier and the players MM wanted but didn’t get have ended up being better wherever they went.

Maybe that is a big part of the reason Grier is gone. Or, maybe none of that is true, lol. We just don’t know who was cooking which dishes in the kitchen.

    • markeyh's avatar markeyh says:

Grier has ALWAYS targeted players the Coaches he has worked with wanted to a fault!

      • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

It would make sense to operate that way. And perhaps he did his best to target types of players, but even if that is the case, you have no idea if the GM and HC agree on the players within those parameters. And who wins in those arguments? I certainly don’t know or claim to.

  23. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

The NFL has filed a grievance against the NFLPA to stop the annual team report cards. Teams want to get rid of public accountability

That, my friend, will take a few years to definitively say. Early results would indicate that it’s perhaps his worst draft to date.

      • markeyh's avatar markeyh says:

Seven out of the eight players he drafted this year played in the last game and most of them did well

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

IDK, if it was his best, it does have a chance to be really good

My problem with Grier has always been he doesn’t know how to build a team

He can take advice from his HC on types of players, it ultimately is on him to make the final decision

A GM should have some type of vision on how to build a team, the HC has to fit that vision

Grier was all over the place GMing

  25. markeyh's avatar markeyh says:

Yes, it is accurate that seven out of the eight Miami Dolphins players drafted in the 2025 NFL Draft played in Week 10, with running back Ollie Gordon II being the exception who did not play enough reps to qualify for a performance review. (Due To Injuries)

The Dolphins made eight total selections in the 2025 NFL Draft:

    • DT Kenneth Grant (Round 1) – Played in Week 10
    • G Jonah Savaiinaea (Round 2) – Played in Week 10
    • DT Jordan Phillips (Round 5) – Played in Week 10
    • CB Jason Marshall Jr. (Round 5) – Played in Week 10 (was in his return window from injury)
    • S Dante Trader Jr. (Round 5) – Played in Week 10
    • RB Ollie Gordon II (Round 6) – Did not play enough reps in Week 10
    • QB Quinn Ewers (Round 7) – On the roster and active for games as a backup, so he was available to play in Week 10
    • DT Zeek Biggers (Round 7) – Played in Week 10

Reports from the Dolphins’ Week 10 game specifically noted that all rookies except Ollie Gordon II were active or saw action.

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Again, that’s one mere game. Plus, we have a rash of injuries that made it possible for some of these rooks to even play.

      • markeyh's avatar markeyh says:

But we beat Buffalo a contender soundly with all of them starting and the defense that has relied more on younger players for the last few weeks have improved and is now starting to play quality football

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

PROPS to the rooks for a game well won against the Bills of all teams! But again, it was only one game.

Can’t call this draft class one of Grier’s best for several years, man.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Ewers didn’t play and Ollie didn’t play, saying 7 out of 8 isn’t true

  26. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

    Markeyh,

I’ve gotta say, Grier’s day 3 picks this past draft look like they could be absolute winners/steals. Nevertheless, one can’t really call a draft class a success or failure for several years.

What’s more, GM’s are generally recognized for what they’ve done on days 1 and 2 of the Draft because that’s where the best talents usually end up. Not all the time, but usually.

  27. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

I all but guarantee that Zach Sieler would be having another monster season had General Grief taken Walter Nolen over Kenneth Grant. And by extension, our Defense would be MUCH better as a whole.

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

I’m not anointing Walter Nolen a future Pro-Bowler, rather… I’m saying that Nolen would have been a better fit for this Defense over Kenneth Grant.

You don’t need to double Kenneth Grant, thus Sieler gets doubled constantly. If we had Nolen, who do ya double… Nolen or Sieler? The one ya don’t double is going to crash the line and get the sack.

PLUS… Walter Nolen was the #1 run-defender in the nation last season in FBS. Yes, better than Grant.

    • markeyh's avatar markeyh says:

This top 10 youngest team in the NFL after struggling the first half of the season seems to be playing better after being coached up, especially the defense.

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

This is TRUTH! Remember what I’ve been sayin’ here for quite some time? Anthony Weaver inherited only 2-3 starters from his Defense of last season (#10 Defense in the NFL last season).

As time has passed, our Defense is finally gelling as they play together and understand the nuances of what Weaver is trying to install.

And THAT is why I think Weaver is a keeper.

We should all remember when Vic Fangio (one of the very best in the biz) was our DC for one season. Our Defense started out terribly, and it looked as though Fangio had suddenly forgot how to coach. By mid-season, our Defense was running on all cylinders and became VERY good! Then… the injuries…

      • Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

But, but, but….the coaching is the problem…

  28. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

watching Phillips hold the line, IMO, was as big a factor as anything in why we beat Buffalo

Only the 3 Bills TOs competes, but Allen was pressing caused by their inability to run, which Phillips shutdown

  29. markeyh's avatar markeyh says:

That information is correct: seven out of the ten Miami Dolphins rookies played in their Week 10 victory against the Buffalo Bills this past Sunday, November 9, 2025

The rookies who saw game action included:

    • Kenneth Grant (DT)
    • Jordan Phillips (DT)
    • Zeek Biggers (DT)
    • Jonah Savaiinaea (OL)
    • Ollie Gordon II (RB)
    • Dante Trader Jr. (S)
    • Jason Marshall Jr. (CB)

Of the remaining three 2025 draft picks, edge defender Chop Robinson was inactive due to a concussion, while quarterback Quinn Ewers served as the emergency third quarterback. The status of any other rookies is not specified in the sources, but these seven all received playing time.

  30. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

I’m finished talking about Chris Grier… he’s water under the bridge. I truly wish him the very best in the future (he’s a good guy), but I can’t keep looking in my rearview mirror.

Time moves on and we need an eye on the present and future. We need to develop the rooks he gave us this past draft.

I get how it works now. When they win, it’s a great job by the GM, when they lose, it’s the damn Head Coach! lol

    INJURIES

  34. Randy's avatar Randy says:

One must wonder, with so many rookies getting snaps….just how good was the talent on this team if so many rookies are getting snaps? SNAP is automatically generated now, and yes I am a robot.

    GOOD PLAYERS GONE

The simplest factor involved in the Dolphins’ downfall has been the loss of high-end players, compounded by the failure to adequately replace them.

Since that 2023 season, the Dolphins have lost Xavien Howard, Jalen Ramsey, Andrew Van Ginkel, Christian Wilkins and Robert Hunt, along with Connor Williams and Jevon Holland, though the last two have been pretty well replaced by Aaron Brewer and Minkah Fitzpatrick, respectively.

And, obviously, when we’re talking about players like Howard and Wilkins, we’re talking about what they were in 2023, not now with Howard retired and Wilkins in limbo as he deals with his grievance with the Las Vegas Raiders, along with a nasty foot injury.

The Dolphins were in full go-for-it mode not only in that 2023 season but starting in 2022 when they started bringing in the big names, a movement that began with the trade for Tyreek Hill in March 2022 and continued with other trades for Bradley Chubb and then Ramsey during the 2023 offseason.

Acquiring that kind of high-level talent has its benefits, obviously, but there’s a price.

    THE BOTTOM LINE

Notice we didn’t include injuries in this rundown, and that’s for the simple reason that every team gets hit by them, though it would indeed be disingenuous to ignore what happened on defense at the end of the 2023 season.

And, yes, injuries have played a role in the brutal start to the 2025 season, with Hill gone for the season, the starting right side of the offensive line (James Daniels and Austin Jackson) out since Week 1, and the team’s one dependable cornerback coming into camp (Kader Kohou) not even making it to August.

Who knows where the Dolphins would be without those injuries?

But again, every team has those, and some teams overcome them — no better example than the Tampa Bay Buccaneers right now.

No, the Dolphins’ issues run deeper than that.

And it’s why they’ve gone from 5-1 to 1-5 in just two years.

They tried and failed (I blame both Grier and McDaniel), but more blame on the HC, who, when he had quality players, failed to win with them.

    Markeyh,

Have you taken a look at our ’26 and ’27 dead cap hits, due to Grier’s decision making?

Why is it that you keep harping on Grier? He’s gone now. It’s time to look forward.

I am over Grier but refuse to watch some throw a guy who did a good job IMO under the bus.

FAILURE – 100% on the GM

      • markeyh's avatar markeyh says:

The failure has been on the coaching of the quality players that we had in the inability of the head coach to utilize them effectively

I wonder if having our best run defense against the best running offense I. The league last Sunday is going to lead to us playing a lot more of our DL rookies going forward

pretty sure that was the most combined snaps for Grant, Phillips and Biggers last Sunday

it might have actually been the first game Biggers was active in – I’m not sure. Anyone know?

    Question for y’all

When you brush your teeth, do you use just your dominant hand or do you switch hands to get a different side of your mouth? I’ve been married for 35 years and my wife just asked me “Do you always use your left hand when you brush?” I said I switch back and forth, when I’m brushing the teeth on the left side of my mouth I use my right, and I use my left hand on the right side.

    What do y’all do?

  43. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

    Thanks Kong!

  44. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    MikeE,

I’ve heard that if you use your off-hand and turn it around….it feels like somebody else is doing the, um, brushing for you!

Left hand (offhand) the whole time. Brushing teeth that is. 😃

We beat the Bills and suddenly people are talking running the table and making the playoffs. This team is always a day late and a dollar short. It isn’t going to happen.

Even if they did win out, Dolphins are 2-6 in conference play. They are NOT going to win any tie breakers. Other WC teams ahead of us are are 6-1, 4-2, 3-2, 3-2 in conference games. That’s not counting the Chiefs who are 2-3 in conference. Chiefs would have to lose 3 more games for us to top them, then you have those other 4 teams to get past who would need to lose at least 4 games.

I didn’t even mention the Bengals who are ahead of us due to their 3-2 conference record.

Dolphins would need to win out and have 4 teams out of the Chargers, Bills, Ravens, Chiefs, Jaguars and Texans to lose anywhere from 3 to 5 of their remaining games. LOL

    Just wake up people.
