The two guys above are very busy working on one of their most important undertakings together as GM and Head Coach of the Miami Dolphins, their very first NFL Draft. This would be the case for any new GM and Head Coach, but for these two and specifically for the Miami Dolphins, it’s exponentially more important due to the roster needs, and the cap restrictions former GM Chris Grier has left the Miami Dolphins with. Both are well aware that they will need to build this team back through the draft, so while this exercise is always important, both Sully and Haf know they need to hit on many of their picks because these players will be the foundation of the team.
I have to admit, that whenever I get to listed to either Jeff Hafley or Jon Eric Sullivan, I come away feeling positive and impressed, and very hopeful that they are up to the task ahead of them, and a huge task it is. Despite the fact that they will get a mulligan for this season, they are building a team in their image. What makes me so optimistic is hearing over and over and strenuously reinforced, that the two men tasked with this rebuild are completely in lockstep in doing this. Now this doesn’t mean that they make each other redundant, they might have differing opinions on certain things, but both completely respect each other and are completely willing to work together to accomplish their goal. When I hear HC Jeff Hafley talking to Mike Florio, and why he came here and took the job of Head Coach for the Miami Dolphins, he spoke of “Alignment”, and he meant alignment with new GM Jon Eric Sullivan, the opportunity to join him and the Miami Dolphins organization. This was once a proud NFL Franchise, and these two gentlemen seem hellbent on making that once again a reality in South Florida and the NFL.
As both Sully and Haf are at the NFL Combine right now, the underwear olympics are in full throttle with the DL and LB’ sand K’s already doing their part. Today, DL and LB’s will do their bench press while DB’s and TE’s will do their workouts such as 40’s and other drills. Lord knows we need players that will come in and not only compete for a starting job but be successful if they are drafted. We truly have so many holes you wouldn’t be wrong if you said the most important position is EDGE, CB, OL, S, TE. All of the above are important, and since the likelihood is that QB Tua Tagovailoa will either be traded or cut, you can add QB to the list, being we have only QB’s Quinn Ewers and Cam Miller on the roster, and once again, very little cap money to spend on a QB. Despite the persistent talk of QB Malik Willis to Miami, I just don’t buy any of it. Whether the salary rumors are completely accurate or not, Malik Willis can probably get paid NOW, and like most players, he will go where that can be done. I just don’t believe we’re in any position to once again dole out $25-30M annually at the QB position right now.
There were some impressive performances yesterday at the combine, a few EDGE players and LB’s ran very well to help themselves, notably EDGE Arvell Reese 4.46, EDGE David Bailey 4.50, and LB’s Sonny Styles 4.46 and Kaleb Elarms-Orr 4.47. All these players mentioned will be doing their bench press today, and that will further give a picture of just what kind of athlete these players are, besides of course the more important game tape they have accumulated during their college careers. That is first and foremost, though we all fall in love with the elite 40 times and 10 yard shuttles and broad jumps and vertical leaps. As Randy pointed just a day or so ago, 2022 2nd RD pick LB Channing Tindall. 4.47 40, 42″ vertical leap, 10’9 Broad Jump, all very impressive, equal to the best performers this year, but his play tape was so far below all the best of this year’s draft and even his own draft in 2022, and just think how important is was for us to make a strong selection in that draft when we had no 1st RD pick, and only 4 total picks, a 2, 4, and two 7’s. Randy reminded of us how great an athlete Tindall was, but how lost he was on the field. Listening to Hafley describe what a Miami Dolphins player will be, Tindall was the complete opposite. He wants players that played football, love football, and players that will last in any climate and all 4 quarters of the game. I can’t wait to see how we do!
Just a quick note to all our bloggers here, but specifically the Admins. I’d like to point out without calling anyone out that YES, I notice the absence of many of our Admins, and that I’m concerned. GO DOLPHINS!!!

Following the Jonnu news, it’s going to be real interesting to see what the Dolphins do with Minkah
I saw a video where Kyle Crabbs suggested we trade him to the cowboys and basically give up a 5th and Minkah for the Cowboys 4th and 6th round pick
what do you guys think know a trade like that
I wouldn’t mind 2 fourth rounders and no 5th
we might be able to draft safeties that can grow with the team
I’m really not on board with just drafting a QB every year. I get their value, but the 3rd QB on any roster isn’t gonna bring much if he ends up just trade fodder. He probably doesn’t even get to practice or play much at all. What if you draft 2 QBs in a row who turn out to look really good as a starter and backup, do you keep drafting QBs? It’s more situational to me…but I get it.
I think where we sit right now we can certainly spend a draft pick on a young guy you like. I think drafting a QB for the next several years is just fine. It all depends on Ewers and who you draft in the next couple years. Lots of unknowns.
piggy,
is that really the best compensation we could get for Minkah? I’m asking because I have no idea.
I don’t know
I thought he would be worth a 2nd before I heard people start to talk about it. Seems like he’s not so valuable
Jonnu was really bad last year based off the stat screen. Did anyone watch the Steelers any? Was Jonnu misused or did he just fall off a cliff? With 38 receptions and 222 yards, he just didn’t add anything to their offense which seems weird after the year he had here. I’ve seen it happen that early but usually with RBs not a TE.
Washington got a lot of playing time as the year went on. They also have Friermuth. There were just too many TEs
Who was Jonnu’s OC last season in Pittsburgh? Yeah, the same guy who got very limited production out of Jonnu in Atlanta. His name is Arthur Smith, and he sucks BADLY.
I don’t know anything about Allar, but I don’t think the “never had elite receivers” argument is a valid one. Three OC yes, but an elite QB (or even just a franchise QB) makes his receivers look elite. Brady made scrubs look like world beaters, took our cast offs and made them all pros. Picking a QB is an absolute crap shoot. The only thing to go on is measurables. Size, arm talent, football intelligence, etc.
If by cast offs, you mean Wes Welker, the Patriots knew exactly how perfect he was for Brady. They also drafted Julian Edelman similar size and qualities. Welker was great for what he was asked to do, far from being a castoff
Jonnu was great in our offense, mostly because he made the most of every pass. Tua was basically playing hot potato with the ball, like “Here, you take it Jonnu” and Jonnu was making mad yards after the catch. I wouldn’t even call it a scheme, it was just Tua panicking and getting rid of the ball to Jonnu, and he made the most of it. I would bet he probably didn’t catch more than 10 passes the entire season beyond 10 yards

BBMike – You want to bet Allar goes in RD3? I’d take that action
————
Not taking that bet. LOL
There is not much there after Mendoza and Simpson. There are still QB needy teams. I believe many of the guys left will rise in the draft, mainly Nussmeier, Allar, Robertson, Green, Fagnano, Payton and Morton. Maybe Strand and King jump up to the 7th round.
The Chiefs made a splash play on Wednesday, reportedly trading All-Pro cornerback Trent McDuffie to the Los Angeles Rams in exchange for the 29th pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, as well as a fifth and sixth and 2027 third-round pick.
————–
Chiefs getting rid of some good players to get under the cap. They got a good haul in picks also.
This sucks also as they now have to replace 2 positions that are a need for us, RT and CB.
Jets won’t trade for him but are interested in him if/when he becomes a free agent.
Please let it happen!
————
The New York Jets are one of the teams “doing work” on Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, according to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo.
For now, Tagovailoa remains on the Dolphins roster, but Garafolo reported the Jets are “making some calls to get the fullest sense of who Tua is as a person.”
No one will probably trade for him as they know they can probably get him for a vet minimum with all the money he will be getting from the Dolphins.
If you’re gonna spend a 3-5 round pick on a QB, I just think there are better options available than Allar. Good size and arm strength just aren’t enough.
Besides, I have already stated my preference for drafting Ioane. I think praising one player from Penn State is enough. Lol
BBM,
Just the scuttle butt from up here…LOTS of talk about Kyler Murray being a Viking. They are also talking about bringing back Kirk Cousins, so there’s that.
MN’s OL has really struggled. It’s part of why I can’t see them wanting Tua. They have high end players but they can’t stay healthy…and have really struggled on the IOL. unless they round into form their QB is gonna be running for his life.
Yeah, I have been hearing a lot of media buzz on Murray to MN.
The “no weapons” debate is a red herring. You can still evaluate a guy’s skill and talent. Frankly, he should actually stand out more without talent around him. He should be the guy who looks like the absolute best player on the field if he “has no weapons”.
The coaching/coordination thing is more difficult to tell. But, again, Allar has had his own professional QB coach for years. Sure…take a flier…but a third is kinda rich…even though I can certainly see him going that high. He is a QB after all. It’s not gonna make or break the draft.
Also, if a guy can’t figure out and learn new offenses quickly…he isn’t going to make it in the NFL. Possibly the #1 asset a QB can have is the ability to take in and process information extremely quickly.
Bears trading WR DJ Moore to the Bills.
the Bills just traded a 2nd rounder to the Bears for DJ Moore and a 5th round pick
Moore has had a good career but he was a bit underwhelming last year, he will be going into year 9 next year so he may be on the tail end of his career
since the Bills no longer have a 2nd, my guess is they look at DT on the first round
It’s going to be interesting to see what happens with the Bills under a new HC. Every Bills fan I know thinks it was a mistake to fire McDermott.
they look like a poorly run organization right now
hard for me not to look at their off-season without the backdrop of that miserable press conference the GM and owner gave
Pegula is trying to make the Bills the Sabres of the NFL
Pegula owns about 80% of the Bills
the other 20% is held by private equity firms – they are the only team in the nfl where private equity firms own part of the team
it’s not just one private equity firm – it’s like 6 or 7
this has been the structure since December 2024 when the equity firms purchased 20%
you guys can imagine how many voices this actually is. Each equity firm has a board of directors
That seems messy to me, but I guess as long as Pegula owns the majority of the team, he’s making all the decisions
but I’m going to go ahead and predict: over the next few years we are going to see how ownership private equity firms causes franchise distinction by watching the Bills implode
that said, I’m gonna admit, I am biased about the Bills. I hate them for obvious reasons – but I am also not a huge fan of the fact that the new bed pan calling itself a stadium is the largest tax payer funded project on the nfl – and that finding courtesy of my state (NY) and my tax dollars was sleazily added to the state budget 4 days before a vote on the budget was passed and pushed by the governor (then the acting interim governor)
LOL @ “the new bed pan calling itself a stadium”. That does sound like some pretty shady stuff.
I think as long as they have Allen, they’ll have to be reckoned with, but it’d be nice if they move down from that upper echelon regular season team.
I’m with you on that Piggy. And the governor is from Buffalo…
also – DJ Moore’s 2028 salary is fully guaranteed and so now Buffalo takes that contract too
Only 15.5m of 2028 salary from what I hear.
Not worried about what the Bills or any other team does. We’re in the beginning of a rebuild so just build the team and go from there. I don’t expect us to be a legit contender until 2027 at the earliest. Not meaning Super Bowl, but possibly a playoff contender.
I think the Bills f’ed themselves with the DJ Moore trade. Moore’s pay of 23.4m this year puts them at 31.7m over the cap and have 6 days to get under the cap.
Also, Moore’s 23.4m salary in 2026 is fully guaranteed. On March 14, 15.5m of his 2027 salary becomes guaranteed and in the trade 15.5m of his 2028 salary becomes guaranteed.
Looks like we are resigning Edge Cameron Goode
This makes a lot of sense as he is a top ST player and he may have more success in the new D.
With the Ethan Bonner tender and Cameron Goode projection, we are currently around 1.6m over the cap.
Roster is at 54 but that includes Tua and Minkah.
CAN’T WAIT to see what we get in exchange for Minkah. HOPING for a 2nd rounder (doubtful), but probably another 3rd rounder for this Draft.
To have 4 (FOUR) 3rd rounders gives us a lot of flexibility in this Draft… whether it be to move up to get a preferred prospect (possibly in the 1st round!), or just sit back and fill out the numerous holes on our roster.
I prefer quality over quantity, but we can have the best of both worlds if we use one of our 3rd rounders to move up for a guy we have faith in.
I’ve been seeing in the media probably a 3rd maybe a 2nd. I just have a hard time seeing that. I’m thinking we likely get a 4th at best.

LOL @ “praising one player from Penn State is enough”! 😆
We see eye-to-eye regarding Drew Allar, Randy. Said it many times before: I’d take him in the 4th if he’s still there, not before.
Ioane is starting to grow on me. I’d prefer a slight trade down before selecting him, if possible. That could net us yet another 3rd rounder. So if we get a 3rd rounder for Minkah and trade down for a 3rd rounder while netting Ioane, we have the possibility to have 5 (FIVE!) 3rd round picks.
That would be intriguing!
Not sure what we’ll get for Minkah but if we’re moving on from him we need picks anyway whatever they are. He’s another contract guy. I think there is a good chance we trade down to get even more picks. In year one of a rebuild the more picks you have the better chance you have at hitting on a bunch of players. That’s what has to happen here to begin the culture change.
Totally agreed. But I would say… if we end up with four 3rd rounders (Minkah trade guestimation), I WOULD use one of four 3rd rounders to move up at some point… probably in the 1st round.
Mind you, no earlier than say R1P7. Any earlier than that and we’re talking about moving major trade capital… I’d be against doing as much.
For instance, if Sonny Styles or David Bailey are still available @ R1P7 (or maybe @ R1P8), I’d consider moving up with one of our multiple 3rd rounders.
And I did use the word consider.
If they really like a guy as a cornerstone player moving forward I have no issues with that. But I think #11 to #7 will cost more than a 3rd.
RIP, Lou Holtz. Passed away yesterday.
Yeah RIP Lou
Speaking of Lou Holtz, he’s the one who successfully recruited Ron Powlus, a generational QB talent in terms of the high school ranks from Berwick, PA.
I was living around Berwick at the time, and my girlfriend and I went to see a movie… and I don’t even remember what the movie was. The audience was very sparse, so we sat in the mid-section, 2 rows down from the closest people.
After we sat down, my girlfriend told me not to gawk… but Ron Powlus was sitting directly behind us (2 rows up, close proximity). So I turned around to look up at the projector, not trying to just turn around to see Ron Powlus… I was trying to be subtle, see!
I looked back down to see… yeah, that’s Ron Powlus with his girlfriend, alright. He gave me a friendly wave with a smile, obviously having heard my girlfriend say his name inadvertently too loud! LOL
We watch the movie, forgetting all about Ron sitting directly behind us. Movie ends, credits start to roll, and I remember… oh, shit! That’s Ron Powlus sitting directly behind us. I introduced myself and my girlfriend to him and his girlfriend, apologizing for the awkwardness of whispered names and what have you.
Ron was a perfect gentleman and took no offense by it whatsoever. We shook hands with much respect as I wished him the very best to make Berwick proud at Notre Dame.
I feel bad that Ron Powlus didn’t amount to anything big in the NFL due to sustained injuries, but he’s doing fairly good for himself today, regardless. Good man, good morals, integrity, and I’ll always remember that night… thinking I shook hands with potentially the next Dan Marino.
Lou Holtz — love or hate Notre Dame — was a gigantic figure in the world of college football. So many sought to land Ron Powlus, but Holtz was the man who landed him.
M13,
I get the idea that Ioane isn’t a perfect fit for an outside zone run scheme. I also don’t think he will have any sort of problem doing well in the NFL. People just get way too caught up in that crap. Again, we already have a center who likes to make blocks 5 yards downfield. Penn State actually moved him around the formation because of his athleticism. Is he a small, quick guard? No. He’s just a very good guard.
But…like I’ve been saying…we need a whole lot, so I’m not caught up in any one guy. JGGP….Just get good players. It doesn’t have to be Ioane.
I understand ya, completely. If ya want a get a good player? Ioane is among the best out there in this Draft.
His athleticism is why he could potentially flourish in OZB. Remember: PSU doesn’t employ the OZB, so tape doesn’t exist of Ioane doing OZB things.
Can he do it? I believe so.
I would be perfectly fine drafting Ioane. Actually, I really like the idea of putting him next to Paul. That potentially could give us the best left side we have had since Webb and Sims.
M13,
They actually played him as like a H back/TE where he was out in the flat. But, you can just see that he can move well enough. You always gotta worry about big guy’s knees, so if he could play around 310-315…that’d be better.
If we would rather get an edge rusher and get a guard in the next round, that works too, for example. As I said months ago, I really just want to come away from this first draft for these guys feeling like they really played/worked the draft well. Picks, trades, moves, not moves. Rationale. Overall plan. All of it.
I’ve been seeing in the media probably a 3rd maybe a 2nd. I just have a hard time seeing that. I’m thinking we likely get a 4th at best.
———
I was thinking a 4th and a 2027 pick, maybe another 4th or 5th in 2027.
MITTINS!!
LOL! Good ole SB
I really don’t see a must player in this draft. I think Sully trades down with a playoff contender who thinks this guy gets us closer. So trading into the 20’s range probably would be a 2nd and 4th and we send a 5th. We still get a 1st round pick. Any position at that point.
My sleeper already on our roster on defense is 2nd year DB Dante Trader Jr.
Did you guys see this?
Unknown team considered bailing the Miami Dolphins out of Tua Tagovailoa’s contract for a first-round pick
Would you guys pull the trigger on a deal like that?
I would! They gave up a 1st to move up for Waddle! I would absolutely give up a 1st to move on from Tua!
Nope! I would not give up a first. There are much less costly options. Maybe a swap of our 1st for that team’s 2nd and I would think about it.
It would immediately free up 56M this season so we can field a roster. It would also free up 53M next season and 65M the following season.
Trading Tua and a 1st for like a 4th round pick would immediately fix our cap situation and allow us to fill out a roster. We cannot even field a 53 man roster right now.
Would let us have our restart two years earlier. … Git Er Dun
It would immediately free up 56M this season so we can field a roster. It would also free up 53M next season and 65M the following season.
——
I don’t see how this is possible. A team can’t take on money Tua has already been paid, mainly his signing and option bonuses. In a pre 6/1 trade, we are still on the hook for 45.2m in dead money that Tua has already been paid in his signing bonus. It would only free up 11m but 2027 and beyond there would be no dead money.
That is why I said swap a 1st for a 2nd.
Rock, I stand corrected. A team trading for a player can take on the remaining portion of the signing/option bonuses. Even though the entirety of the bonuses has been paid by the Dolphins.
I think I would have done that or maybe what you said “Trading Tua and a 1st for like a 4th round pick”.
I wonder if that offer is still on the table.
I was loading up to argue with you, but refreshed the page first. LOL Yes, the team trading for the player CAN take on the entire contract including offsetting previously paid bonuses.
lol, they should have taken the offer
My sleeper already on our roster on defense is 2nd year DB Dante Trader Jr.
———
My sleeper is JuJu Brents. He never got a chance getting injured his rookie year. He is not a burner but is a superb athlete, 9.99 RAS score. He has great size and a very good tackler and run defender as well.
Brents should be good to go after his foot surgery last year. Hopefully he can stay healthy.
Tyler Biadasz signs with Chargers, 3yrs 30m.
That takes care of 1 IOL spot. They still need 2 OG’s. Hope they fill those in free agency also.
Danielle Hunter signs extension with Texans
Houston’s star edge rusher signed a one-year, $40.1 million contract extension that contains over $30 million in guarantees, per multiple reports.

Damn that’s expensive.
Kam Curl signs extension with Rams
The veteran safety is getting a new deal to remain with his current team. It’s a three-year, $36 million contract

Damn, Rams were one of the trade destinations for Minkah.
