As per usghe with the Dolphins fanbase, there is never a 100% approval rating for any move this franchise makes. I know Rock just hates this move, and I bristled at it as well. I’m not going to kill Sully and Haf before they even get started, but let’s all be honest about something here. These 2 guys came here preaching “competition” at every position, including QB. THERE WILL BE NO QB COMPETITION. Malik Willis will be the 24th Miami Dolphins QB since Dan Marino retired back in 1999. Sully and Haf just handed Malik Willis the reins to the team and it won’t matter if Quinn Ewers throws a TD on every pass in practice and Preseason games, Malik Willis is the starting QB . I genuinely have a problem with that. Competition is healthy, and the fact that so many times in our history we provided no competition at the QB position, it’s a reason we failed. With Tua, we took it to the insane extreme of not only not having competition, but handing him a franchise QB contract before he deserved it, we didn’t even let him compete for himself by playing him on his 5th year contract.
Well, now that Malik Willis is the QB, we just signed a couple of weapons for him. WR Tutu Atwell comes over from the Rams and we re-signed one of our TE’s from last season, TE Greg Dulcich. We’ve also re-signed RT Austin Jackson, and apparently, the ugly VOID YEARS of contracts continue. It’s like getting a new credit card to pay off current credit card debt. Fantastic, I wonder if Chris Grier left behind his “Handbook to Create Cap Hell in the NFL”. In just one week so many things happened. Tua signed with Atlanta so now he’s their problem. We signed Malik Willis and now he’s our problem, or hero, we’ll see which one. We re-signed LB Willie Gay, K Riley Patterson, and oddly enough, also signed K Zane Gonzalez. Apparently, K is one place where we truly need competition. We signed a pass rusher OLB Joshua Uche (Ooh-shay) from the Eagles. We re-signed DT Matthew Butler. We signed a three CB’s that puts us at 43 for now, just kidding, I think it’s 13. We’ll be cutting CB’s in groups once training camp starts.
I know it sounds like I’m hating, I’m not, but I just wonder if Ross wanted a new toy at QB and pushed Sully and Haf to bring in Willis. As all of you here know, I wanted to go forward cheaply at QB, draft a QB in this draft and actually have a QB competition, between Ewers and the draftee, and an inexpensive veteran QB. Being cheap at the QB position got blown out of the water and so did the competition as well. Shame. Hopefully Malik is ready to be a starter, but $45M guaranteed for the next 3 years is far from cheap. Take into account that our roster was not going to be chock full of top talent due to the cap issues we face, we’re not exactly sliding Malik Willis into a favorable situation. We probably need 2 OL (Again!) because Grier got us a defective one in James (3 snaps) Daniels and drafted a defective one in Jonah (2 picks) Savaiinaea. We cut Daniels, so the age old question of how many snaps does it take to get rid of your huge free agent acquisition for the O-line is, a one, a two a *crunch*, a three! 3! Malik Willis might be running alright, running for his life if we can’t find 2 competent OG’s and RT Austin Jackson can’t stay healthy.
Sully and Haf just absolutely better be stellar in this upcoming 2026 NFL Draft. We know we need 2 OG’s, we need CB’s, despite the fact that we have an army of them already. We need a safety now that MFFF made his 2nd departure, this time to the rival NY Jets, who BTW gave him a 3 YR/$40M deal. NY showing the Joisey native some love! Chubb signed with the Bills so we most definitely need pass rushers. That’s a lot of needs in one draft, and I don’t expect to adequately address all of them. This cap mess we’re in will linger for a while, so excellent drafting is in order. Sully gives us our best chance in the last 20 some odd years to be successful at drafting now that Chris Grier has left the building. Talk about pressure, we just spent $67M that we don’t have on a QB while still having 2 gaping holes on the O-line. Sully and Haf have their work cut out for them, I hope they’re up to the task!
GO DOLPHINS!!!

Denver receives: Waddle and Dolphins’ 4th-round pick (11th in round) in this year’s draft. Miami receives: Broncos’ 1st round pick (30th overall) along with their late 3rd and 4th round picks (30th in each round) in this year’s draft.
I wonder if Denver is taking on any of his salary. This is going to cause an extra dead cap hit of 11.5m.
They get Waddle and our 4th
we get 1st, 3rd and 4th from them
So a 1st, 3rd and swap of 4th’s. This explains the Tutu signing.
Awesome for us! Very happy about the trade!
Yep!
2 – 1st round picks now. Maybe we go up to get a blue chipper 🤷♂️
Or maybe we just draft 2 really good players without wasting picks to move up! In other words, 2 blue chips!
^
Yep again! LOL
This was not a bad move as Waddle’s cap hit in 2027 was 33.8m and 37.2m in 2028.
Waddle’s cap hit to the Bronco’s will only be 1.8m this year unless they are taking on more of this years dead cap for us. He will cost them 24m in 2027 and 27m in 2028.
They just cleared another 33.8m in cap next year.
We now have picks 11, 30, 43, 75, 87, 90, 94, 130, 151, 227, 238.
Mock draft BBM is so happy right now. LOL
I know who my targets at #30 will be. RT’s Blake Miller or Iheanachor.
They could go with one of the later 1st round CB’s though in Hood or Cisse or a safety like Haulcey.
I love the fact they are tearing this down (or blowing it up, whichever you prefer) and making it their team. Building a team using the draft, what a refreshing concept.
^
BBM, get going on that “post Waddle trade” mock draft. LOL
You know I would but have to wait for the simulator to update. LOL
The UCF edge at 30 👍
Could happen
Waddle’s total dead cap this year is 23.2m with no future dead money.
This increases our dead cap this season to 108m with Tua and Chubb’s dead cap still yet to hit on 6/2.
and there goes my current jersey….
Tutu Atwell’s contract updated. His $1,262,500 cap hit is 100% guaranteed. That was telling also as it already made him a lock for the 53.
getting a 1st, a 3rd and a 4th and giving up Waddle and a 4th is good compensation
its not great or even adequate compensation for a player of his talent, but when you’re rebuilding it makes no sense to carry his high salary, that in the grand scheme of things does nothing to help you win a championship
for that reason it was a smart trade, something Grier knows nothing about
can probably use the 30th pick to trade for a 2027 first round pick
also, I know some of you hate it
but this makes Lemon or Sadiq a lot more likely at 11 IMO
Not necessarily. EDGE and CB are much more important than WR or TE
I know they are more important but if the best players at edge and CB are off the board, we also have the 30th to work with and we can take a playmaker
I think drafting for need is a mistake when you have as many holes as we do and as many picks.
we now have 4 3rd rounders, 2 first rounders and a second round pick
I don’t think so at all. Lemon is a slot WR. We have about 4 slot WR’s on the roster already. I don’t think they will value Sadiq that high either. I do like Lemon a lot though I see him a lot like a Malik Washington.
I don’t think Lemon is a slot anymore than Hill or Waddle were slot WRs
Jamaree Salyer’s contract hit. I wouldn’t say he is a lock to make the roster. His cap hit is 1,262,500 but only has 187K guaranteed signing bonus.
my point above still stands
if the top 3 pass rushers, Mauigoa, Styles, Delane, and Downs are off the board and you can’t trade down, do you turn to playmakers like Sadiq or Lemon
looking at most the mock draft, it seems like that might be the case
At 30 you can also look at edge players like Zion You g or TJ Parker as well as a bunch of good OL that may have been reaches at 11 but are on the line between the first and second round
also Anthony Hill and CJ Allen fall in that range too
as well as DBs like a Colton Hood, Gerald McCoy (only bc of injury concerns) and McNeil-Warren
if the top 3 pass rushers, Mauigoa, Styles, Delane, and Downs are off the board and you can’t trade down, do you turn to playmakers like Sadiq or Lemon
———–
No, I take Safety Thieneman or OG Iaone. I value them over Lemon and Sadiq. Waiting on McCoy’s pro day but I will more than likely value him over them also.
Value them over Lemon and Sadiq not as a need but as BPA.
WOW! Jaylen waddle traded to Denver Broncos for the 30th pick
I didn’t think they would get that much!!
cap hits for 27 and 28 combined of 56m says the trade had to be made, getting 30 a 3rd and swap of 4ths is just what it is
trade is good for Denver, because they’re in win now
it works for us, because of contract dump, the comp is a bonus in our situation
BBMike
Iaone is great in a phone booth but not very mobile I think he’s a horrible fit for our scheme
There are many who say Iaone can play in any scheme and is the best pass pro IOL in the draft. I think it was Baldy who said Iaone may not be the best at outside zone but he is the best at everything.
okay, I haven’t actually watched him, I’m just basing what I said on reading scouting reports, I dont really see him as an option if he can’t play in a Zoning scheme – but if the coaches think he can play, I have no problem with that pick at 11 in fact, I think it’s probably a better pick than the skill, players I mentioned or the other two players you mentioned.
to me it’s a big question mark for him – can he play zone
but I think the coaches know best
wonder what Malik thinks of the trade🤪
forget about the 2026 record, go BPA with every pick
cap hits for 27 and 28 combined of 56m says the trade had to be made
——–
His cap hits for 27 and 28 combined was 71m, 33.8m and 37.2m.
I think you were looking at his actual cash he would make those years but total cap hit was 71m.
I think when it comes to WR, TE, CB, or Safety, the draft is pretty deep, and having 5 picks between rounds 3-4 is a real asset, even if we don’t address those positions with our first few picks
for me, the well dries up fast at edge, Off ball LB and OL
so an ideal situation would be our first 3 picks there – but I really don’t want to reach for a player
something like Mauigoa, Zion Young, Anthony Hill would be a Dream to me
or Sonny Styles, TJ Parker, Iheanachor
or Bain, Pregnon, Trotter
then you can look at Safeties and skill positions with the later 5 picks of rounds 3 and 4
I am with you on this. lol
really if you wanted to be a little nutty, you can spend a lot of those early licks on defense
we have some good yo7 f players, in Chop, our 2nd year DTs, Dodson, Brooks, Seiler and I think Marshal and Trader have potential
If our early picks address edge, 1 LB and DBs we can really be a good defense sooner rather than later IMO
I’m just basing what I said on reading scouting reports,
——–
I read those same scouting reports and was thinking the same but then I saw some breakdown video’s on him that changed my mind on him.
