If you were on the blog yesterday, you’ve probably read that one of our own here at FMU has been dealt a serious blow, Jon “Stanger” suffered a serious heart attack 2 weeks ago. The good news is he survived it and is now out of the ICU and heading in the right direction. If you know and have met Stanger, he’s one of the kindest, nicest people you can meet. It was very touch and go there for him, we’re all thankful he’s beginning to improve. Our best from FMU for a full and speedy recovery to a fine man. Godspeed in your recovery Jon!
I’ve said it here myself because you have to feel that the BYE week may end up actually hurting us this season despite the fact that this is the time of season where it can really help a playoff push by getting guys healthy. On the other hand momentum is real, and the 5 week winning streak is now over, without actually playing. It’s going to take a lot of focus by our team to stay on track when we face the NY Jets at home at Hard Rock Stadium 12/19. At 6-7, defeating the Jets would bring us to .500 and still relevant for the playoff push, astonishing considering our 1-7 start.
The defense has come alive and has really sparked this team. The offense has done enough to win games but the defense has been the key. Tua has run this short passing offense as well as it could be run, making quick decisions, and quick, accurate throws. All this completely out of necessity due to the O-line’s inability to pass block and run block. For the millionth time it’s not because Tua can’t throw further than 5 yards, and to give ORob a pass here, he’s far from the only one who says that, I hear it on NY sports shows, I see it on twitter all the time from Dolphins fans and it’s just become like a tag Tua has now, that he has a pop gun arm. Personally, I couldn’t give a rats ass as long as when our O-line improves, that he shows all these people he can throw the ball downfield, but until then, I’m fine with him doing what’s necessary.
About that defense, our 2nd first round draft pick of 2021, DE/LB Jaelan Phillips has really turned up the heat! Of course it’s not just Phillips, Emmanuel Ogbah is as steady as they come, always bringing strong pressure from the other side. Ogbah leads the team with QB hits with 19, followed by AVG with 18, and then Phillips with 16. Of course, the rookie Phillips now leads with 8.5 sacks, followed by Ogbah with 6. Ogbah, Wilkins and Phillips are tied with 7 TFL. Xavien Howard has 4 INT’s, 2 FF’s, 2 FR’s, and 14 passes defensed, easily the leader on this team. Rookie Jevon Holland has also been a huge spark, rushing the QB, making tackles, snaring INT’s. He’s basically everywhere, especially since S Brandon Jones has missed some time.
Things are looking up people, the Dolphins are looking legit and our good friend Jon (Stanger) is healing and on the mend. Now Sonny can take us into the BYE week with the BYE Week Bi-Babe.
GO DOLPHINS!!!
