The Wedge Scouting Report: Chase Winovich, Edge, Michigan

Man do I love riding my bike across the known universe!

Nothing like a carbon suffocating atmosphere in your tentacles as you run over inferior lifeforms.

And I never need to stop for gas!  This bike has a nonstop motor, kind of like Chase Winovich, the Michigan Defensive End.

The Pros:  At 6-3, 253 pounds, Winovich is being projected at both 3-4 Outside Linebacker and 4-3 Defensive End.  A lot of scouts are noticing Winovich when they are reviewing his teammate Rashan Gary.  And Winovich stands out as a playmaker even though he doesn’t have the natural talent of Gary.

That’s because of his most notable trait – a non stop motor.  Winovich just keeps coming and coming.

But it’s not just effort, it’s technique too.  That is what has helped this overachiever make his way on to many big boards.

At Michigan Winovich used those skills to produce 18.5 sacks, 164 tackles and 43 tackles for a loss over the last three years.  He was consistently productive.

The Cons:  I think it would be cool to draft a guy who looks like Thor and Winovich can bring the hammer, but what he is not is the most naturally talented edge player in this draft which is deep with players who can make up your front 7.

Hight football IQ and a high motor makes up a great story but scouts have noted a lack of lateral mobility that may prevent him from being a premier pass rusher in this league.

The Alien Dust:  I’ve seen him mocked in the first round, usually late first round, but more likely than not, Winovich will be a Day 2 pick.

He will come in to the league more polished than a lot of his colleagues and it would not be odd to see him out up good numbers a rookie.

If the Dolphins don’t take an edge guy early in the draft, Winovich can be a steal on day 2 and can help the Dolphins rebuild defensive line that needs a makeover.

Winovich’s nonstop motor is not to be overlooked – just like this bike I plan to use to roll over Tom Brady!
