DT Kenneth Grant 6’4 331 – Michigan
Well, all I have to say is I’m quite relieved. I really expected the Dolphins (Chris Grier) to reach for an oft injured CB (Will Johnson, also from Michigan) or a nickel back CB Jahdae Barron. Instead, I was pleasantly surprised after all the OT’s were off the board (Campbell, Membou and Banks), that the Dolphins selected a DT who can start immediately. Grant is a big boy, but he needs to increase his strength and hit the weights. It wouldn’t hurt to shed a few pounds either and be a little quicker and more explosive. He can play DT/DE for Miami opposite Sieler, and he can play some NT as well, although with Benito Jones already here, I think it would serve the Dolphins better to have Grant at DE and Jones at NT.
I don’t have an awful lot to say, it’s one pick, and a pick necessitated by letting Wilkins walk last season. That being said, Grant is a guy who has not found his ceiling yet, and hopefully in Anthony Weaver’s scheme, Grant will flourish quickly and for many years down the line for us, with or without Weaver. No question a pick that satisfies a huge need, we still have a whole lot more work to do. I’m hoping we get an interior OL next, to me that’s the next need. We can take care of CB and S later, first get the big boys. Lots of big boys off the board already as I mentioned, the trio of OT’s Campbell, Membou and Banks are gone as well as OT Grey Zabel, OG’s Tyler Booker and Donovan Jackson also are gone. That leaves OG’s Tate Ratledge, Marcus Mbow, Wyatt Milum and Jonah Saviineah are 2nd RD possibilities, as well as 2 OT’s not yet picked as of this writing, OT Josh Conerly and Josh Simmons. I hope the Dolphins stay on track with the trenches, it’s like building a house, you need a strong foundation.
See you all later tomorrow, I have plans and won’t be around most of the day, I’ll try to catch up before the evening!
GO DOLPHINS!!!
