2024 Season – Game 6 – Dolphins @ Colts

The Miami Dolphins go to Indianapolis after the BYE week with an opportunity to get back to .500 and even their record to 3-3. QB Tyler “Snoop” Huntley is in line to start, but backup QB Skylar Thompson, recovering from a bruised ribs, should be able to be the backup QB. Injuries aside, this game goes way beyond just our players injuries. Somehow, we plodded past the inept New England Patriots and won that game 15-10. We have won 2 games so far, and in neither victory did this team resemble in any way the high flying offense from last season where the team scored 496 points and scored an average of 29.2 PPG. So far this season the Dolphins are averaging a paltry 12 PPG, the leagues worst. For reference, the Carolina Panthers have their backup QB in, and the Panthers are just awful by the way, yet somehow the Carolina Panthers with Andy Dalton have scored 22.5 PPG in his 4 games that he’s played. Take away our season opener where we erupted for 20 points, we’re scoring 10 points per game. This with WR’s Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle, RB’s De’Von Achane, Raheem Mostert and Jaylen Wright all sharing time. No bueno, and people, people meaning our coaching staff, and the players, need to be held accountable.

It looks like the Colts will be going with QB Anthony Richardson on Sunday. He’s been out for 3 games, and in his stead, QB Joe Flacco was killing it! Flacco in 3 games has completed 71 of 108 pass attempts with 7 TD’s and 1 INT. The Colts want their 1st RD pick back on the field, so despite the success Flacco has had, they’re back to Richardson. Richardson has struggled this season and despite the fact that he’s 2-2 this season, he has completed 50% of his passes with 3 TD’s and 6 INT’s. That’s more in line with our QB’s, so maybe the playing field is level for a change. The big difference is QB Anthony Richardson has a very high ceiling, and is a very athletic QB, while you can’t say that about either of our QB’s Tyler Huntley or Skylar Thompson.

One thing that’s just about impossible to me is the fact that last season, our TE room didn’t catch one TD. Well, guess what? We brought in TE Jonnu Smith who was supposed to be a big part of the offense, especially if WR’s Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle were getting shut down. Guess what again, they’ve been shut down ALL SEASON! Still, no Dolphins TE has caught a TD last season or this season through 5 games. Could this be the week? Don’t bet on it, but you never know. Good news for the offense is RB’s Raheem Mostert and De’Von Achane are both going to play, along with promising rookie Jaylen Wright.

The defense is right smack in the middle statistically this season, but when the offense can’t sustain drives and turns the ball over, that puts more pressure on the D, and of course they’re out on the field much longer than they should. We’re giving up 22.6 PPG, which I feel is acceptable, considering once again how poor the offense has been. HC Mike McDaniel had the BYE week to come up with ways to get this offense going with QB Tyler Huntley, and then of course the likely return of QB Tua Tagovailoa from a concussion, at the Fest game against the Arizona Cardinals. This offense has to start showing some life, or the Head Coach, despite getting an extension, should be in danger of losing his job. The best player on this has been 39 year old DL Calais Campbell. Hands down, he’s had the biggest impact. He and his opposite DE Zach Sieler. Both players are getting it done, my fear that Sieler would suffer without DE Christian Wilkins was probably accurate, because Calais Campbell has been that good. Unfortunately, Campbell has made it clear this is his last season, so next year it’s going to need to be a priority of sorts, although QB, and O-line will be much higher priorities out of necessity.

If WR’s Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle have pride, and I believe they do, these guys are going to have to start to make an impact. I understand they rely on the QB, but they have to be better. We can’t fall to 2-4, and then expect the fragile QB Tua Tagovailoa to take this team the playoffs. They need to get themselves in gear and start scoring TD’s. Get the TE involved, maybe even get them a TD. When Raheem Mostert and De’Von Achane are healthy, they make a difference, they give this offense some electricity, but they need the star WR’s to be much more involved in the offense and scoring.

GO DOLPHINS!!!
